The Xbox One S, which went on sale in Europe and the US yesterday, is already using the Anniversary Update.

After about more than six months of waiting, starting on August 2, Microsoft began sending out the first major update to its customers to its customers. Windows environments 10 at number 1607. Did it live up to our expectations, or did the whole event turn into an ordinary “zilch”, without introducing anything new and necessary? Today we'll talk about how to install anniversary update Windows 10, what new features and abilities it has brought, what changes it has added to the system and whether it is worth installing it at all.

How to find out the current build number of Windows 10?

The first thing we need to do is to find out if we should install the anniversary update at all, or if it is already installed on the system. To do this, find out the build number of the current operating system. Go to the "Settings" menu through the Start menu and select the "System" section.

Displayed detailed statistics about the active build of Windows 10.

As you can see, in our example, version 1607 is installed. This is the build number with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update installed. If you also have version 1607 or higher installed, then the Anniversary Update is already installed on your PC. If the version is below the above number, then this article will come in handy more than ever.

How to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update - Method 1 (using Windows Update)

The most reliable and proven way Anniversary installations Update is automatic, using Windows Update. Since Microsoft is rolling out the update gradually, on different dates for different devices on Windows base 10, all you have to do is wait certain time until the corresponding update appears in the list of available updates in the Update Center. Let's check if it's there. Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the screen and select the "Settings" option from the context menu.

On the form that opens, select the "Update and Security" item.

As a result, we get into Windows Update. See if there is an update we need here. The Anniversary Update looks like a regular update with build number 1607.

As you can see, the update we need is on the list. Wait for it to download setup files for it, and install it like any other update.

How to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update - Method 2 (manually, from the official Microsoft support site)

If you do not want to wait until the Anniversary Update appears in the list of available updates, we suggest that you use manually, namely - download the Anniversary Update from the official Microsoft support site here this link. This method is also quite simple - you just need to download the distribution kit and manually start the installation process on your computer.

We go to the above web resource and download the installation file from there by clicking on the "Download the anniversary update now" button.

On the very first form, we get acquainted with the number of the version of Windows installed on your PC and see which number is the most relevant at the time you started the update procedure that you initiated. Click the "Update Now" button.

Let's make a reservation right away that for a successful update, we need at least 20 GB of free space on the system disk. This can be reported to you by a system warning, which also notifies you that the update procedure on this computer is not possible until you free up disk space.

Free up some space and try again.

Also, using the presented methodology, it will not be possible to install the anniversary update on corporate version Windows 10. If you have exactly this, you will have to burn the Win 10 image to media or mount it via virtual device, which is much more convenient than using a whole CD or USB flash drive.

How to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update - Method 3 (using an image burned to a disk / flash drive or mounted to a virtual device)

We download the distribution kit of the operating system we need of the corresponding bit depth here this link and mount the image on the logical device using the application Daemon Tools, according to the instructions already given by us.

After the disk is mounted, run setup.exe and proceed with the procedure for updating the system from the media.

At the first stage, we choose to download updates from the Microsoft server before starting the installation. Select the option "Download and install updates" and click the "Next" button.

Shortly after that, an agreement form will appear on the screen, which must be accepted by clicking the appropriate button in the lower right corner.

Now begins the process of downloading updates. It is worth a little patience and perseverance, since this is not a quick matter and requires a small amount of time.

When everything is ready, you will see a window for starting the OS installation procedure. We start the installation (in our case, the update) and click the "Install" button.

It will take approximately half an hour for the installation procedure to complete. Manual intervention is not needed here, so you can safely go about your business. What's more, your computer will restart several times during installation, so don't worry, everything is going according to plan.

When everything is finished, the system will boot, and you can check which version of the OS you have installed now, using the instructions given at the beginning of our article.

What changes does the Anniversary Update bring to Windows 10?

The first major update for Windows 10 adds a lot of changes to the user interface, completely invisible at first glance, but upon closer inspection, very interesting and entertaining. We have already figured out how to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update; Now a few words about what it actually is.

The first thing that catches your eye is start menu. From now on, by default, it displays a list of installed applications, from the latest added to those installed a long time ago. At the same time, the menu with access to the power button and settings, "Explorer", the account is now hidden on the contrary. Tiles, in turn, no visible changes were not subjected.

Now, by right-clicking on any application or tile, you will display some additional functions or sections that enrich your user experience and usability.

A function has been added that allows you to project an image to a Windows 10 computer from a smartphone or other PC. This option is in the System category.

Significant changes have also been made to the notifications menu. In the new Windows 10, the button to access the notification center on the taskbar is located immediately after the time and date and now displays the number of alerts.

The appearance of the notification center has also changed. It now allows you to display more data on the screen and integrate actions into the alerts themselves.

Together with the update, it became possible to specify in the parameters for which applications notifications will be displayed, and which ones will be the most priority of them.

Concerning quick action, now the most unclaimed of them can be completely turned off, and the rest can be swapped in any order, as you like.

One can hardly hope that in the near future the number of extensions for Edge will be at least somewhat large, but it's a start. We managed to lay a good start, now it's up to third party developers and IT community. Concerning general impressions from working with Edge, the browser has been noticeably lightened. Now it works 20-25% faster, and in terms of HTML5 support, it is practically not inferior to Chrome.

So we figured out how to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. As you can see, it does not make much weather, but only brings cosmetic changes to the structure and design of the OS. In the coming year, we are waiting for another major update for the "top ten", perhaps there we will see something more grandiose and large-scale than minor changes and subtleties in the interface.

Second of August Microsoft company released a major update to Windows 10 (Anniversary Update). With over 350 million devices currently running Windows 10, errors are inevitable during the upgrade process. How to solve them, you can learn from our article.

"Windows Update" does not see Anniversary Update

This is the most common problem, and it is the easiest to solve. Download from site Microsoft utility"Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant" and launch it. This utility will check if your computer is compatible with the Anniversary Update and if so, background will download the installation files, after which it will prompt you to restart the computer. After a restart it will be updated.

0x800F0922 or 0xc1900104

If you see errors like this, it means that your computer is either unable to connect to the Windows update servers or is in the system partition hard drive not enough free space.

The lack of connection to the servers may be due to the use of a VPN. Disable your VPN and try updating your computer again (a restart may be required).

You can increase the partition reserved by the system for your files using standard utility"Disk Management". You can find it through the search in the "Parameters". The system partition can "clog" different programs, including antiviruses.

0x80200056

This error may appear if you accidentally power off your computer during the update process. It's enough just to run the update again.

0x80070070 - 0x50011, 0x80070070 - 0x50012, 0x80070070 - 0x60000

Such errors signal that there is not enough space on your hard drive to download and install the operating system. Empty the trash, delete unnecessary files or move them to other media and use system utility"Disk Cleanup" (Win + R, cleanmgr command). It will be useful to run this utility even after installing the update - it will remove a copy of the previous Windows versions 10, which takes up several gigabytes.

0x80073712

This error means that some of the files required to install the update are missing or corrupted. Run the Disk Cleanup utility and remove the previous a copy of Windows, as well as all temporary files and try updating again.

0xC1900200 - 0x20008, 0xC1900202 - 0x20008

These errors indicate that your computer does not meet the minimum technical requirements Windows 10. Here they are:

Processor: 1 GHz;
- RAM: 2 GB;
- Free place on disk: 16 GB for 32-bit version and 20 GB for 64-bit;
- Video card: DirectX 9 with WDDM 1.0 support;
- Screen: 1024×600 pixels.

You can upgrade your computer and then try to update it again.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Review: Is It Time to Install Windows 10?

About a year after the release final version Windows 10, Microsoft has prepared a major update for its current OS, which will be released under the name Anniversary. The completion of work on it was preceded by more than two dozen test assemblies, which is a kind of record. Distribution of this update among users will begin in early August. We have prepared a great Windows overview 10 Anniversary Update with visual illustrations and detailed description all innovations.

Home Screens, Start Menu, Action Center

The first thing a user will notice after installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is the updated lock screens and welcome screens. The welcome screen now uses the lock screen background by default, and transitioning between them triggers a new visual effect that darkens and enlarges the background slightly, leaving its edges out of view.

In addition to these five main ones, there are a number of minor changes. For example, scrollbars on both the left and right side of menus now disappear as soon as the cursor leaves their area of effect.

Our next stop is the notification center, which Microsoft also did a lot of work on in the Anniversary Update.

The first thing that catches your eye is the center icon, which was previously located in general group system tray icons, and now moved to the clock and learned how to show the number of notifications. Was:

The notification center itself has also changed noticeably. This is what notifications looked like before:

And this is what it looks like after the update:

Notifications have become much more informative, and general form their entire feed is displayed noticeably nicer. In addition, you can now remove notifications by clicking middle button mice.

The lower part of the center, containing shortcuts to popular actions, has become a little more customizable: the section dedicated to it in the "Parameters" has been redesigned:

When activating the tablet mode or, for example, the “do not disturb” mode, on the corresponding buttons, in addition to changing the color for greater clarity, the inscriptions “enabled” or “disabled” appear briefly:

The updated center should finally learn how to fully interact with its counterpart from mobile version OS, provided that you also update it to current version. Additionally, you can set priority parameters for notifications:

Finally, the notification system now interacts with the Edge web browser, which we'll cover in the next section:

Egde in Windows 10 Anniversary Update

The Edge browser, which replaced Internet Explorer last year, has become one of those system components that Microsoft paid the most attention to in the anniversary update. Recall that Edge debuted in Windows 10 and is currently exclusive to the desktop and mobile versions of this OS. The web browser runs on a lighter and improved version of the Internet Explorer engine and differs from it in a noticeably lighter interface.

On the other hand, the new browser was light, unfortunately, in terms of number available settings, initially without offering the user even a few very basic options that are in any web surfing program. With the arrival of Anniversary UpdateMicrosoft, we think, has closed many of these customization and functionality gaps. However, let's go in order.

Two new items appeared in the main menu of the program:

The item "New features and tips" leads to a page with a list of innovations that has not yet been localized. But the “extensions” section is many times more interesting, since this, in fact, is the main innovation in the browser.

Extensions created by third-party developers have long been in competing products and allow you to complement the functionality and individual features web browsers of your choice. With the arrival of Anniversary Update system extensions and their directory for the first time appear in the Microsoft browser.

The only thing that confused us was that the extensions are tied to Windows store Store and without logging into your account, even what is free will not be allowed to download.

So far, Edge has very few extensions compared to its competitors. However, the modules most demanded by users, such as the AdBlock banner cutter, are already here.

This catalog will, of course, expand over time.

However, in addition to the extensions in the updated Edge, there is something to see. For example, there was a well-known users of all alternative browsers the ability to pin tabs, reducing them in size, protecting them from accidental closing:

In the context menu of the address bar, the “paste and search” command is available, which, if not just text, but a link is copied to the clipboard, automatically changes to “paste and go”:

Navigation buttons now have their own context menu that displays recent history visits and allowing one click to go to any of the pages presented in the menu:

The work of the favorites panel has been significantly improved. There you can now create folders, rename items and enable the display of icons only. None of this has happened before:

In addition, the movement of elements is now accompanied by a new nice animation, and the panel itself has become a little lower in height to take up less space from the content being viewed.

Several new ones Edge features associated with the download mechanism. In addition to the integration with the notification center mentioned above, Edge no longer starts downloading immediately, but first asks the user what he wants to do with the downloaded file: save to the default folder, save to the selected directory, or not start downloading at all:

In this pop-up panel, by the way, the file size is also displayed. In the settings, you can return the previous behavior of the browser when it immediately started loading. There, finally, an option appeared that allows you to set the default download directory:

Edge now warns if you try to exit it without completing one or more downloads:

An interesting option has been added to the settings section responsible for cleaning the browser, which allows you to automatically delete selected items every time you exit Edge:

The representation of the favorites has noticeably changed. It used to look like this:

You could only see the contents of one directory at a time. Now favorites are displayed in a hierarchical view, where you can see all links, as well as folders and subfolders:

In addition, the “sort by name” item appeared in the context menu of the favorites, and the “delete” item is now moved away from the others by a separator:

Quite a lot in Edge and implicit changes. In particular, the procedure for importing data from other browsers has been improved. Edge has learned to detect secondary flash content on pages, which is usually advertising banners, and automatically pause it. Swipes can move forward and backward through the pages.

Of the little things, we note the use of drop-down lists in the settings, the new icon of the new tab page, as well as items hidden by default in context menus web pages for developers.

A number of new options have arrived on the about:flags service page, where various experimental browser options are located. However, for the average user there is hardly anything particularly important.

Options panel

In Windows 10 Anniversary, Microsoft continues to develop the Settings panel, saturating it with more and more various settings. However, the classic control panel still has nowhere to go and a lot of links, including those from the "Parameters", lead to it. In addition to the new settings, the "Settings" of Windows 10 received a number of cosmetic improvements.

For example, the first section “System” looked like this before:

In Windows 10 Anniversary, some changes have been made to the logic of the Options panel. It is especially striking that the names of both new and existing subsections, for clarity, received their own miniature icon on the left:

The same monochrome icons appeared not only next to subsections, but also on some pages. For example, in "sign-in options" next to the name of each of the methods of logging into Windows, a corresponding icon appeared:

Such trifles, obviously, according to the intention of the developers, will make the options more visual and memorable.

Another change is the built-in search. On the main page, it is now centered, and on regular pages moved from the right to the left. But the most important thing here is that the search now does not expand to the entire window by default, as it did before:

Instead, a miniature tooltip is initially shown:

Now let's go over the most important new options. In the "System" -> "Apps and features" section, note that for some applications, the "advanced options" link has become available:

Click on it and on the page that appears you will stumble upon a completely new feature reset individual applications, which will debut in the Anniversary Update:

A new subsection “Status” has appeared in the “Internet”, which clearly displays the status of the network connection and a number of related links to various system applets:

In "Personalization" there was a subsection "Taskbar". If you open the context menu of the taskbar and select "Options" there, then now you will fall into this subsection instead of the old window. There are no new options there, in the subsection all the previous settings are only grouped:

A couple of new switches are available in the settings:

In the same “Personalization” section, but now in the “Colors” subsection, an updated color palette has appeared. This is what the previous one looked like:

And here is its version from the Windows 10 Anniversary Update:

The palette, as you can see, has been somewhat redesigned, has become more compact, and the selected color is now marked with a “tick”, instead of a barely noticeable rectangle.

Below are the new options:

First, the color in the window title bar can now be configured separately from the color in the Start Menu, Taskbar, and Action Center. Previously, the color was adjusted simultaneously for four of these elements. Now the color of the windows is rendered separately from the rest.

Secondly, there is an interface mode switch from light (default) style to dark:

However, not everything is perfect with this mode at the moment. Let's start with the fact that only universal applications and the control panel change the color. Regular applications, Explorer, and with it most of the context menus throughout the system remain light.

The Edge browser seems to live separately from the main settings: although the dark style is available there, for some reason you have to turn it on manually separately. Finally, in some places bright inscriptions look too contrasting against a black background.

After playing around with the colors, we went to the "Privacy" section: the settings here have significantly increased in many subsections. Now you can prevent applications from accessing the notification center, the user's location data, and you can also prevent them from managing other applications.

In "Updates and security" in the "Windows Defender" subsection, you can now configure how the defender interacts with the notification center. In addition, there is a new offline scan functionality.

Finally, in the same section, but already in the "Windows Update" subsection, it became possible to set the so-called activity period.

During this period, the system will not automatically reboot the device, even if it makes sure that you do not use it.

It is worth noting that some smaller innovations also debuted in the Options panel. To talk about each of them would mean a completely exorbitant increase in this already rather big article.

Other changes in Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Finally, let's go over briefly those changes that do not concern the Start menu, notification center, browser and Settings panel, that is, are not related to those elements that the corporation has worked on the most.

Let's start with the fact that Microsoft is still quietly engaged in design. Or, by at least, by what she puts into this word.

Control windows have been redrawn in the Anniversary Update accounts users. This is how they looked before:

These are now:

Work continues on the icons. Here, for example, how the icon was redrawn Windows Defender(new version below):

The defender himself, as we wrote above, received some update, which he himself will tell you about at the first start:

With built-in programs in the Anniversary Update, things are inconsistent. Microsoft continues to add and remove universal apps from the system. This time out of favor fell, for example, Finance and Sport. Could not find also Phone and Phone Manager. However, hardly anyone will grieve for them.

Another application that seems to have been removed from the system is Sway, designed to create interactive presentations. On one of the Western sites, it was indicated that it was not actually cut out of the system, but made part of the Photos application, but we did not understand how to access Sway from it. In addition, the photographs themselves, upon a cursory acquaintance, were closed without permission twice.

Old notes were removed from the system and replaced with a universal version of Sticky Notes.

The main new application in Windows 10 Anniversary Update was universal version Skype. The first acquaintance with her, however, turned out to be so-so.

After logging into the account Skype program for some reason immediately started with dark theme decoration, while the system used light.

Going into the settings, it turned out that to change the style of Skype from dark to light, you need to restart the program, and you must restart it manually.

When the universal Skype was launched again, we saw that the settings for it are still with a gulkin's nose. User in best case a dozen options are available, and the window with them cannot rationally use the area available to it, which is why even this small number of options have to be scrolled.

To be honest, familiarity with universal applications, at least from Microsoft itself, makes one wonder how primitive they are compared to traditional ones. However, here, perhaps, we are mistaken and someone will correct us in the comments.

But back to the review of the remaining innovations in the Anniversary Update. For the taskbar, the option to auto-hide in tablet mode is available, the set of emoticons has been redone, the system search can now search in OneDrive. Recognition support handwriting available for 23 additional languages. Switching between audio output sources is implemented in the volume setting pop-up interface.

The clock and calendar are now displayed on all monitors when using a multi-monitor configuration. A new Win + Alt + D combination has been added to invoke their popup interface. The system tray calendar is now integrated with system application Calendar:

Many changes have been made to Cortana. Surprisingly, this assistant still does not support the Russian language, therefore, instead of a detailed identification of innovations, we will only mention its main ones. In particular, the ability to search for music has been improved, the tools for creating reminders have been expanded, integration has been carried out voice assistant with the Maps app.

Cortana has been strengthened for cross-device interactions, including battery usage information, Find My Phone, and device-to-device transfer of map data.

Finally, work continues to improve the functionality of virtual desktops. You can now switch between them with four-finger gestures on the touchpad. In addition, you can now pin one window or all windows from one application on all virtual desktops at once:

Conclusion

It would seem that released a year later and is already the second major package of changes Anniversary Update should bring Windows 10, as they say, to mind, finally making the system “licked” and complete. However, in practice this is not the case.

In the top ten, two control panels still coexist, voice assistant Cortana, which is one of the flagship innovations of the OS, is still not available in Russian, as well as in many other languages. Nothing has changed at the heart of the Windows interface - Explorer, as the corporation is still preparing for its complete redesign in the future. And that's not to mention all sorts of little things like rudiments popping up here and there from Windows 7 and 8.

Thus, if you were waiting for a completely finished, honed to the smallest detail system, then, as it seems to us, Windows 10 is not yet one. Congratulations to users who have been successfully using the "ten" since last year: with the advent of the Anniversary Update, they are turning from alpha testers to beta testers).

Later Windows year 10 accounts for less than a quarter of the desktop OS market

On the other hand, in the Anniversary Update, the Start menu, virtual desktops, and notification center are getting more usable. Edge for someone will be real workhorse with extensions and basic capabilities that didn't exist before. The Options panel continues its evolution, preparing to finally become single center system management. The leapfrog with applications for communication seems to be ending with the advent of the new Skype.

As a result, the anniversary update is, without a doubt, a step in the right direction. That's just to win over to the side of Windows 10 most of Microsoft users will obviously need at least a couple more of the same steps.

Windows 10 will work and be updated for years to come. The latest update 1607 opens up new and previously unavailable features of this operating system.

Why update 1607 is not installed

The reasons are as follows:

  • using not Windows 10, but, for example, Windows 8.1. Remove your version of the system and install exactly the tenth;
  • lack of space on the C drive. To successfully install Windows 10 along with the 1607 update from scratch, you need at least 16 GB disk space. The media type on your computer doesn't matter. The main thing is that the specified amount of memory is available on it;
  • lack of internet connection. Check if the connection is working. Windows 10 has built-in LAN/Wi-Fi drivers so that you can immediately download and install update 1607 (and any other). If there is no cable or wireless connection, but there is, for example, a 4G modem from Yota, install this modem. But if you have a smartphone or tablet that works in access point mode, turn on the distribution of 3G / 4G via Wi-Fi on the gadget itself and connect to it. With the advent of the Internet Windows system 10 will request and install the latest updates;
  • conflict with third party antivirus(for example, ESet NOD32/SmartSecurity, Kaspersky antivirus, etc.). Disable tracking functions, remove the application from autostart, stop the antivirus service (if any), preventing it from starting automatically (even without the application itself), etc. All these actions are called unloading the antivirus.;

    A third-party antivirus may be causing issues installing the Anniversary Update

  • conflict with wireless communication (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi). If you already have a cable connection or a gadget that works via a USB cable as a modem, disable wireless communication. To do this, go to the path "Start" - "Settings" - "Networks and Internet" - "Airplane Mode" and turn on the flight mode;

    Move the slider to the right to disable the built-in radio

  • conflict with user account control, security mode Boot in the BIOS / EFI of a computer or tablet. Disable them;
  • conflict with devices connected to the computer. Disable all of them except for the mouse, keyboard and monitor (if a monitor or projector is connected to the tablet). It may be necessary to disable additional RAM modules used to “overclock” the performance of a PC or laptop;
  • incompatibility of earlier updates with later ones, leading to the failure of the latter (some or all at once). Requires a targeted solution to the problem with support Microsoft developers, which ends with the selection of the correct sequence of actions when installing some updates "on top" (after) others.

The last point requires clarification. For example, if it is indicated that update KB9999921 (numbers are fictitious and taken for comparison) will not be installed over an earlier update KB9999907, because the latter was incompatible with an even earlier installation package KB9999904, and the installation ended with a “rollback” after Windows startup. And then Microsoft releases installation package KB9999922 which solved all the above problems. Then all previous ones (KB9999904/9999907/9999921) are deleted from the Windows system and from the "update cache" and update KB9999922 is installed. Most likely, the problem will be solved.

Always follow the order in which updates and patches are installed as determined by Microsoft. The tips from seasoned users are based on real events that the first wave of people who want to try the latest Windows updates go through. This works even in amateur Windows builds, subsequently "packed" experienced users V ISO format and distributed on torrent trackers.

If the update ends with a "rollback" or errors, contact the Microsoft Support Center.

Problem with drivers

Since the operation of any PC or gadget fully depends on the operation of the processor, the first source of problems is the processor from Intel, the driver of which was not installed along with the chipset of the base (motherboard) board of your device. You will need a universal intel driver Rapid Storage Technology, which can be downloaded from the official website of Intel.

The problem with other processors and other "stuffing" of the laptop, excluding network adapters LAN / Wi-Fi, is decided either with the computer manufacturer, or with the support of other companies that produced, say, the same video cards (for example, the popular video adapter ATI Radeon Graphics) to your line of computers. Get latest versions drivers for all devices that are identified as unknown in Windows 10 and install them.

In fact, update 1607 is a major step towards the software and technical excellence of Windows 10. Since Microsoft refuses to release Windows 11 and subsequent versions of Windows, the user's task is to install latest updates for ten.
