whois service. How to check domain registration date

Hello friends! Vasily Blinov is with you again, and in today's next part about domain names, I will tell you how to check the history of a domain and why it must be done before buying.

As part of my course “How to create your own blog / information site and make money on it” in the Knowledge Base, I strongly recommend that students do a domain check and take only with zero or good history. Now I will explain why.

Why check history?

If you are a beginner and are not familiar with what are search engine filters, domain reputation, indexing and site ranking, then let's briefly explain in simple words.

On the Internet and in any search engine, there are a lot of algorithms that analyze each resource in many ways. During the operation of the site, it undergoes thousands of checks. Since no indicators can be imposed on the resource data itself, due to the fact that they are constantly changing, all check parameters are assigned to its address, that is, the domain.

If the site has had non-unique content for a long time, viruses that prohibit materials (for adults, extremism, drug propaganda, etc.), low-quality links were bought or sold, re-optimized articles were published, spam, etc., then most likely the domain name of such The site is under filters and blocked.

Therefore, when you buy a similar domain with a bad history, be prepared for problems with indexing and promotion. Such a situation online can be compared to imprisonment, the status “previously convicted” on the name will remain for a long time, perhaps even forever, and will interfere with development.

It is unrealistic to learn about all filters and blocking, one can only guess by analyzing the data preserved in history on some special services. Let's take a look at how to use them in detail.

7 Methods for Checking History

Reg.ru (paid method)

The first way you can use is a special history check tool with an official registrar REG.RU.

All addresses during the search and selection of the appropriate one, of course, will be a little expensive to check. Therefore, it is better to use it if you have already specifically decided on some free option.

All subsequent methods are free.

Whoishistory.ru

Whoishistory.ru is a standard service for viewing publicly available information about a domain. Works only with .ru, .su, .rf domain zones.

It is not necessary to use advanced functionality, no matter how much I have tried, it does not show particularly important data. Just enter the address in the green field and click "Search".

Data is shown separately for each year, in my case - for 3 years:

  • Hosting server where it is located.
  • availability status.
  • Who is registered. If it is for an individual, as in my case, then specifically for whom it is not shown.
  • What registrar did it come from?
  • Registration date (age).
  • Dates when it was extended.

According to these data, the most important thing that can be seen is whether he was previously occupied by someone or not, and how long he has been occupied.

If you see that it has already been used, we analyze it with the following services.

Linkpad.ru

Linkpad.ru— a tool for analyzing incoming, outgoing and internal links on the site. If there was a site on the domain earlier, and it was indexed normally, then this service will show which links on this site were and which ones referred to it.

You can thus determine the subject of the former resource and the quality of the links.

In my case, the domain is absolutely new and all data for the last 5 years is zero. Here is an example of a busy domain, a site that is no longer active, is for sale, and that I wanted to buy.

You can also see which pages were recently on the site.

There is nothing wrong with such a domain; we can assume that the story is normal. That's just the price for it was offered 28,000 rubles. And it's against my principles to buy domain names from cybersquatters.

- a service that takes screenshots of sites and saves them in history. Its disadvantage is that it only takes screenshots of popular sites.

It does not show various small resources that were on the domain for a short time. This task is better handled by the following service.

Archive.org

Archive.org- the worldwide archive of the Internet, periodically saves the appearance of sites throughout its work. You can see what the popular Internet giants looked like before and have changed since their inception.

The scale at the top shows all years and the number of saves. And in the calendar - circled and highlighted in bold numbers when the archive was saved. You can view it by clicking on them. This is what my blog looked like when I first launched it in 2014.

Using these two extreme methods, you can determine what kind of site was on the domain, and whether it violated any Internet rules.

Search check

It doesn't hurt to also ask Yandex and Google what they remember about the former website located on the domain of your choice. To do this, enter the full domain name in the search bar and see the results.

If you enclose the domain in quotation marks and put an exclamation mark before the word (I recommend reading the article about search secrets), then Yandex will show only direct occurrences of the word you are looking for.

There were 12 thousand pages where my domain is mentioned. Based on this analysis, you can understand what kind of resources link to a domain name, and determine whether the material located on it was good or bad.

RDS bar

RDS bar is a browser extension that helps webmasters quickly access available information about a site. Even if the site does not open for the desired domain name, it will still show statistics.

To do this, install the extension. In the browser bar, enter the desired address and try to open it. When it gives an error about unavailability, click on the icon.

If the numbers are not zero, then it was used earlier and indexed. By clicking on the numbers, you will see detailed data.

Conclusion

I have listed all the main ways to check the history that I use. There are others similar to these, but they won't show more information.

You can also run the address through common analyzers, for example, these:

  1. xtool.ru
  2. seolib.ru/tools/site/express
  3. sbup.com
  4. mainspy.com
  5. cy-pr.com
  6. audit.megaindex.ru

They can also show something useful if there is a history.

I wish you good luck with your test! If you have any questions, then ask them in the comments. Also share your tools that you use.

In the next part, I'll show you. Stay tuned!

Hello, dear readers of the blog site! If you have visited the page with this publication, then most likely you can imagine what a domain is (here about the connection of a domain name with IP addresses, DNS servers and other components of the "site life" on the Internet). Well, if you still have some dark spots, you are welcome to follow the link provided above.

At any time, a situation may arise that you will need blood from your nose information about who owns this or that particular domain. In addition, you may need to obtain some other data (for example, about the registrar, DNS or IP address of the server on which the desired domain is located).

All this information can be found from special online sources located on the network. They are called Whois. Below we will talk about what this name means, what data such services provide, and in what cases it may be needed.

Whois - a service where information about a domain is available

As I said, in many cases it may be relevant to view the data associated with the owner of the domain name. For these purposes, specialized Whois services are used (from the English phrase who is - who is it?). Talking name, right?

However, here I have to make an important reservation. The fact is that many domain name administrators use the option to hide your personal data(e-mail, phone, etc.), which is quite logical, since such an action largely protects against spam and account hacking.

Moreover, when the registration data protection function will be enabled automatically, which will free you from additional actions. If you are, then this option can only be used for an additional fee, which, however, is not high.

So, Whois services provide the necessary information in the public, however, only that which the owner considered necessary to open. By the way, you yourself can take this opportunity into service and hide information about your ID, which is undesirable to provide in the clear.

Moreover, anyone can set up this option already in the process of registering a domain name (and relevant materials about buying a domain from a registrar and reseller). By the way, I give, which describes the features of registration of ID with registrars and resellers, so that you can decide which option is best for you.

I must also say that not only when buying a DI, but also in the future after receiving an account in your personal account, at any time you can set up the personal data protection option accordingly (each registrar may have its own nuances, but this does not change the essence).

Why do you need domain name information

Now we need to say a few words about what, in fact, data on a domain name may be needed for, and what it gives us. Here are some of the most common reasons:

  • If you buy a domain, you need to make sure that its owner is the individual or legal entity that sells it
  • If the checked domain supposedly belongs to you, then in this way you can check whether you really have all the rights to it
  • To avert the threat of fraud and insure against various kinds of scammers who can use rather intricate schemes. In any case, at the slightest suspicion during the study of data on a DI, any contact with its alleged owner should be immediately abandoned.

These are just the things that came to my mind offhand. I hope you add to this list in the comments, it will benefit everyone. But let's continue.

How to check the history, owner, registrar, DNS of a domain for free

The Whois service system is centralized and systematized. Technically, it is implemented in the form of user-friendly web forms and is based on the ability to access registrar databases.

Moreover, any major accredited domain registrar offers comprehensive services for the purchase of DI, including the provision of available data for any domain zone absolutely free, but usually only to a certain extent.

Let's try, for example, to search for a free domain on the REG RU service and enter on the main page, for example, the domain name of the great and terrible Google in the Russian segment:

After clicking on the appropriate button, we get a message that the domain is busy, which is quite natural. But we can view some information using the Whois service (however, if you know that the ID is not free and your goal is to obtain data about it, then you can do this right away):

After initiating this option, we get a specific result:

As you can see, here we can find out the DNS server, the DI administrator, who actually owns it, as well as links to contact him. Contact information is also provided here to contact the registrar.

In addition, a brief history of the investigated domain is provided, that is, when it was registered, the date of registration end and release (when it can be purchased if the registration is not renewed by the previous owner). If you want to get more detailed information, then you should click on the blue button below.

There you can find out who owned this DI earlier (provided that the information was not hidden by the owners), hosting history (), with which this domain is associated, what other domains are located on this IP address, as well as on these DNS servers. Just keep in mind that such a service on REG.RU will be paid:

Above, we considered an example when the owner is an organization. In the same case, when the administrator is a private person, the formatting of the query results will be somewhat different:

Please note that here opposite the "Administrator" column is indicated "Private Person". That is, information about the owner, who is an individual, is hidden. If a green button is displayed at the bottom, then you can write a letter to the administrator.

In addition, it is possible to contact the owner via a feedback form through the registrar (in this case, REG RU), who will play the role of an intermediary.

If you carefully look at the previous screenshots, you will find another button "Put on monitoring". This service will allow you to receive notifications to your email about all changes that will occur with your chosen domain names:

In addition to the fact that each registrar provides us with information about domains, there are specialized services through which we obtain the same data. Let's enter the domain name on the universal Whois service in the field, taking the same Google as an example:

As a result, we can find out the same thing, but perhaps in a slightly different format. As you can see, the registrar is indicated here, the dates of the beginning (Created) and the end (Exrires) of the registration period, the main IP address of the server with which this domain is associated (several IPs are possible if we are dealing with a large organization, as in this case) .

If you scroll down a bit, you'll find some more details, including DNS records (nserver), domain (state), owner (org: Google Inc.), and contact details in the form of phone numbers and email addresses:

In general, information about the domain you are interested in can be very useful, especially if you wish to purchase it. After all, it is very often profitable to buy exactly the old DIs, which have a high TIC and have sufficient trust. But in other situations, this possibility seems to me very relevant.

As an addition, I suggest taking a look at a short video from the same reputable REG.RU registrar, which, I hope, will finally answer the remaining questions, including how to use, for example, the Domain Broker service:

Another manual for beginner scouts.

Information about the owner of the domain is confidential and is provided by the registrar only at the request of the authorities. But there are several possible ways to get her out. We will talk about them in this article.

Why is it needed: find justice for a person who brazenly steals your content, assess the solvency of the site owner before making him an offer to buy, find a specialist in a narrow field who writes sensible articles for his blog, but signs with an anonymous nickname, etc.

1. Look at whois history

You should start by checking the site for who.is. The screenshot shows an example when, with the help of this service, not only the email, but also the mobile phone and the address of the owner became known (this happens if you are very lucky). I'm shocked by my hoster's privacy policy! In most cases, only a link is displayed where you can send a message to the domain owner through the registrar. And with her help, there is a chance to learn a lot of interesting things.

2. We are trying to contact him in an official way

The result depends on luck. It is not known whether a person checks the mail that he indicated during domain registration and how reliable the data provided to him is. Your social engineering skills are also important. You can offer investments, introduce yourself as an assistant to Yuri Milner :-), convince you that you must definitely call by phone or Skype, ask about the possibility of a personal meeting. The main thing is to convince a person that fate has given him a real chance to earn money and beg for the maximum amount of data that can be used in further exploration.

It is advisable to add the phrase: "Please let me know that the offer is not interesting to you." This increases the chance that a person, out of courtesy, will drop a couple of lines, highlighting his mail, name and IP address.

Knowing the e-mail of the former owner (and his nickname), you can find his ad for the sale of the site / domain on a specialized forum and a list of users who responded to it. Of these, you can make a circle of possible current owners of the domain.

3. We are looking for sites registered in the name of the owner

Knowing a person's email address, you can find out which domains are registered to him. You can do this at domainiq.com. It is possible that one of these sites will be a personal blog, which can be used to identify a person.

4. We turn to the host

12. Read comments in source code

We go to the site, click Shift + command + U(or select from the menu item Show page code). First, we look at the HTML code for fawn comments with names and nicknames. For example: "BigFatNagibator, please check this place!". Along the way, we are looking for js scripts that were written by the site owner specifically for this resource. It is possible that they may contain the solemn inscription “Created by Sasha Petrov. Irkutsk" and a link to his Github profile.

There are often situations when it becomes necessary to find out the owner of the domain of a particular site. There can be many reasons for such interest, and the most common are:

  • Curiosity

Many people want to know information about the domain owner of their favorite site. Could it be one of your friends? In addition, such information may not be superfluous when developing your own project, because the success stories of some webmasters can inspire the implementation of truly original ideas.

  • Making transactions and providing confidential information

The server rental service with administration will help speed up your site and bring it to a new level.

Knowing the owner of a domain can be useful not only out of curiosity. For example, you have to fill out a questionnaire and enter personal data into it on an unfamiliar site. To prevent this information from falling into the hands of scammers, it is better to first familiarize yourself with the information about the owner of this web resource, and based on this data, judge its reliability. Moreover, in addition to the identity of the owner, you can also analyze the age of the domain and refuse to conduct a transaction in time if the site was registered quite recently.

  • Domain registration

Domain information by address is also useful when registering a domain. This way you can check if it is really registered in your name, and if all the data is displayed correctly.

  • Buying an existing domain

If you decide not to register a domain name, but to buy it from someone, then it will not hurt you to first find out who actually owns the site and whether the seller is the owner of the domain.

As you can see, there can be many reasons for showing such interest. And then you will learn a simple and reliable way to find out who the domain name is registered to, as well as get other related information.

How can I find out who the domain is registered to?

To obtain the necessary information, the easiest way is to use special Whois services. Actually, Whois (literal translation - "who is") is a special network protocol with which you can find out who the site or domain was registered to, as well as get the contact details of the owner and other related information.

Most often you receive the following data:

  • Name and contact information of the domain owner;
  • The name and contact information of the domain registrar organization;
  • DNS server addresses;
  • Domain name registration date;
  • Domain name lease expiration date.

Which Whois service to choose in order to find out the owner of the site by domain? There are many sites with a user interface for working with this protocol. For example, you can use the service from RigWEB, which pleases its users:

  • Simple and user-friendly interface

Qualified specialists will quickly answer all your questions and tell you how to find out all the information you need about the domain.

A small article for those who like to surf the Internet and play scouts. How to find out the name of the owner of a domain?

Although this informationconfidential, we found ways to find out.

We will discuss these options in our article. Why do you need it? First of all, it is interest. Perhaps you want to find justice for a person stealing articles, ideas, and so on from your site. Or you want to hire a person for work, but there are no contacts for communication.

The first method, and the most famous one, is to look up information about the domain through the who.is domain name registrar.

Obvious Ways

1. Go to the site who.is and drive in the search bar which you want to know. Let's start with the fact that through this service you can find out the email and phone number of the owner with sufficient luck. If the registrar has decided not to hide the information.

2. Trying to communicate in an obvious way.

We send a message to the domain registrar with a request to give us the contact details of the site owner or contact him. Or we write a tempting offer to the email specified in who.is. It is not known whether the correct mail is specified during domain registration and with what regularity the site owner checks it. We can apply social engineering skills, introduce ourselves as an investor or administrator of a large site, offer to buy ads by Having obtained the mail of the former or current owner of the site, we can rummage through forums and services about selling domains and find information about it. When we find this ad, we get a list of possible buyers, usually they are displayed. You can also find out the owner of a domain in this way.

social engineering

3. Did you get the mail? We are looking for what other sites are under his control.

Why do we need to know ? Perhaps he left information about himself on other sites or maintains a personal blog. And you can easily find out the data about it by writing as indicated in paragraph 2. You can do this on the website domainiq.com.

4. We turn to the hoster to find out the owner of the domain.

Hostadvice.com is here to help. The main thing is to justify why you. SI comes into play again You can pretend to be a company employee who wants to order advertising, or a cute girl who is in love with the articles on the site and, therefore, the owner.

Search engine help

5. Information about the creators of the file is publicly available.

Google will help us. This search engine can search not only sites, but also files of certain formats: doc, ppt, xls, pdf, rtf, swf. An example of a request to Google for doc files from the Lepra site is filetype:doc site:lepra.ru. And we'll know.

6. File for systems.

We are looking for files like: members, member, uchastniki and stuff like that in the robot.txt file. This file contains information about site users. You may come across pages of participants with photos and personal data. As a rule, robot.txt is located in the root directory of the site, but there may be exceptions.

7. Useful for search pages in the sitemap.xml file.

Unlike the previous file, this one is for the Google search engine. There may be differences. For example, there you can find a page with contacts, which the administrator deliberately removed from the main page of the site in order to maintain confidentiality. But you can find out the owner of the domain on this page.

8. Addresses associated with the domain.

There is an interesting service emailhunter.co, which, according to its own known principles, calculates which email addresses can be associated with a given domain.

9. We are looking for sites that link to the domain.

Use any checker (backlinks). Perhaps there are links from social media profiles to this site, and one of them will be owned by the owner.

10. There is an interesting service that can determine the address of the owner and the model of his mobile phone from a photo, if he took this photo from him, findface.ru is the address of this service.

11. Identification of the owner by photograph with his face.

There is a small chance, provided that the site is small, to find a photo of the owner in his pictures, perhaps, once, through negligence, he uploaded it there, and then forgot to delete it. But "Google" does not forget this, you can search through the pictures that are on the site using this search engine.

Digging into the code

12. We are looking for comments in the source code of the pages.

We go to the site, type Shift + Command + U or by clicking on the right mouse button, select the pop-up menu item "Show page code" or "Show source code". Variations may vary. The main thing is to find the right one. We are looking for js scripts, perhaps they are written by the site owner himself, his vanity will help us. The person who wrote the script will most likely indicate his nickname in such a file. And already by nickname you can find out the owner of the domain.
