Enable bluetooth on lenovo laptop. Enabling the radio module with third-party utilities

Bluetooth device is practically the most common way of transferring information between various devices. It is used if you need to transfer any files, for example, music or videos, from a mobile phone or other devices to a laptop. Let's figure out how to do this and how to generally find this technology on your laptop. You can find information on how to turn on bluetooth on a specific laptop model on the Internet, but first.

How to find bluetooth on a laptop

To find out where the bluetooth is in the asus laptop, you should use the keyboard functions or the settings of the Windows operating system. In the first case, you should carefully examine the laptop keyboard. Manufacturers have equipped some models with a special button with which you can start Bluetooth. To turn on bluetooth, just click on it. If everything is correct, the indicator should light up, and a service icon should appear at the bottom of the screen, notifying that the device is turned on and working.

In some models, bluetooth is turned on with the same button as Wi-Fi. If you also need to configure wi-fi, read how to do it. At the same time, this key can be either placed separately on the body, or be additional function buttons on the keyboard. In this case, they are not immediately evident. You can activate them using the Fn key. And then don't forget if it bothers you.

The presence of buttons that have a Bluetooth icon is not always an indicator that the computer actually has this device.

Before you start turning it on, you should make sure that it works. You can find out whether or not there is bluetooth in a laptop on the manufacturer's website, which describes the characteristics of your model. In addition, there must be a special sticker on the case confirming the presence of this function in the laptop.

How to turn on bluetooth in a laptop

So, we briefly described where the bluetooth is in a Lenovo laptop or in models from other manufacturers. Now let's dwell on how else you can activate this function. As mentioned, you can use the Start menu to do this.

It doesn't matter what you are interested in, where is the bluetooth in an hp laptop or a device from another manufacturer, in most cases after clicking Start, you need to go to the Control Panel link. Next, we find the Bluetooth Devices section. It contains all the necessary parameters to configure the data transfer. Of particular note are Lenovo laptops. In these computers, in order to turn on bluetooth, you need to go to the All Programs - Accessories section through Start. In it, you need to select the File Transfer button, where there are all the necessary settings to activate the function.

If Bluetooth is not built into your laptop, you can connect an external USB dongle, which can be purchased separately. Such a device looks like a USB flash drive. It is connected to a laptop via a USB connector. However, unlike a USB stick, it is designed to serve completely different purposes by providing wire-to-wire communication between devices.

For any of the above manipulations, you must make sure that the correct drivers are installed on the computer. They are usually available on a disc that comes with your laptop. If the DVD is lost, you can use the manufacturer's website, where they can be easily downloaded.

Bluetooth technology is becoming more and more popular every day. If you want to use a similar wireless connection to transfer information from various devices to a laptop, immediately choose a laptop with this function. In the case when you have already purchased a personal computer, and there was no bluetooth on it, do not worry, because it is quite possible to connect an external device that provides such a connection.

To begin with, almost every laptop has a built-in Bluetooth module. Not even on the newest models. This means that Bluetooth on a laptop should work without installing additional devices. I have introduced USB adapters which are required for desktop computers. Since there is simply no built-in module there. Although, some motherboards already have built-in Bluetooth.

In this article, I will try to show in detail how to enable Bluetooth on a laptop. How to do this in Windows 10, Windows 8 (8.1) and Windows 7. I will also show you how to configure the wireless module and connect different devices to the laptop. I have a mouse and wireless headphones connected to my laptop via Bluetooth. Very comfortably. You can also connect, for example, a wireless speaker, keyboard, mobile phone, etc.

All that is needed for Bluetooth to work on a laptop is an installed driver. The driver must be downloaded and installed from the official website of the laptop manufacturer. For your model and installed Windows system. But do not rush to go to the manufacturer's website and download drivers. It is quite possible that you already have everything installed and working. Especially if you have Windows 10 installed. As a rule, it installs the necessary drivers by itself. Then you just need to turn on Bluetooth in the laptop settings and you can use it.

Where can I find Bluetooth on my laptop and how to turn it on?

Most likely, you already have everything included and everything works. Regardless of the Windows installed, if the Bluetooth driver is installed, then there will be a blue "Bluetooth Devices" icon on the notification bar. This means that it is turned on and ready to go. Check on your laptop. In rare cases, this icon may be disabled in the settings.

By clicking on this icon, you can perform various operations: add a device, show connected devices, receive / send a file, configure the adapter itself, etc.

If you don't have such an icon, then there are three options:

  1. Bluetooth on the laptop is disabled and needs to be turned on.
  2. Removed the BT icon itself from the notification bar.
  3. Or the required driver is not installed.

Let's try to turn it on.

BT in Windows 10

The easiest way is to open the action center and click on the corresponding button.

Or go to the parameters, then to the "Devices" section, and on the "Bluetooth and other devices" tab, enable the module with the slider.

For Windows 10, I wrote a separate article:. After that, an icon should appear in the notification bar, as I showed above.

How to connect the device?

Click on "Add Bluetooth or other device" and select the appropriate item in the next window.

Turn on Bluetooth on a laptop with Windows 8 and 8.1

Opening the side panel (you can use the keyboard shortcut Windows + C) and select "Options". Then click on "Change computer settings". Go to the "Bluetooth" section and turn on the module with the switch.

Windows will start looking for available devices to connect to.

An icon should appear on the notification bar, through which you can manage connections.

How to activate Bluetooth in Windows 7?

If there is no blue icon in the notification bar, then go to "Network and Sharing Center" - "Change adapter settings" and see if there is a "Bluetooth Network Connection" adapter there. If not, then install the driver for your laptop model, or check for an adapter in the device manager (about this below in the article)... And if there is, then see if it is turned on. It may need to be turned on on the laptop.

How to connect the device?

Click on the "Bluetooth" icon and select "Add device ..."

A new window will open in which to connect your device following the instructions.

Or go to the "Control Panel", in the "Devices and Printers" section. And click on the "Add Device" button. You can also open the "Bluetooth Adapter" properties and enable the display of the icon in the notification area. This will make it easier to connect and manage devices.

How to check and enable bluetooth in device manager on laptop?

If you cannot find Bluetooth on your laptop, there are no settings, adapter, buttons, icons, etc., then most likely the necessary drivers are not installed. You need to go to the device manager and check it out. Or maybe you just need to use the BT adapter.

Open Device Manager. You can right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties." In a new window go to "Device Manager". Or press the keyboard shortcut Win + R and execute the command devmgmt.msc.

There you should see the "Bluetooth" section (may be called differently in Windows 7), which will contain the module itself (the name may also be different)... On my laptop like this:

If there is one, but with an "arrow" (icon near the adapter) then just right-click on it and select "Engage".

Perhaps you don't have anything similar to Bluetooth in your device manager. In this case, you need to download and install the driver.

Go to the official website of your laptop manufacturer. Through the search (or menu) find your model, and in the "Support", "Downloads", etc., download the driver for the Bluetooth module. Install it, restart your laptop and everything should be working after that.

Bluetooth (bluetooth - "blue tooth") is a special standard for wireless communication, that is, using electromagnetic waves. It is used to connect two mobile devices and transfer data between them. This technology was originally developed to enable wireless headsets in mobile phones to enable hands free conversations. But this does not limit the application of this technology in a laptop and other mobile gadgets - it can also be used to transfer files.

Everyone has long known another wireless standard - Wi-Fi. What is the difference between the new standard and Wi-Fi? Their main differences are:

  • Different frequency ranges.
  • Bluetooth has a shorter range.
  • When using bluetooth, there is no need to adjust the hardware configuration.
  • Using this standard, you cannot configure a local network, that is, connect more than two devices at the same time.
  • The "blue tooth" has a significantly higher transmission rate.

As a rule, a modern laptop already has a built-in wireless radio module. But if it is not there (or one of the subscribers is a desktop PC), then you can buy an external adapter. It resembles a USB flash drive and connects to a USB port.

You can find out if a laptop with Windows 7 has a built-in radio module, as well as see its status and turn it on using the task manager. To do this, enter the control panel, select the "Administrative Tools" item, open "Computer Management" in it, then select "Device Manager". If the list of installed devices does not include the item "Bluetooth radio module", then there is no bluetooth module in the laptop. If it is there, but a question or exclamation mark is displayed next to it, then this means that the adapter drivers need to be updated or reinstalled, but this is a topic for a separate article. When purchasing an external adapter, it usually comes with a driver CD. After the device driver is installed, Windows 7 will detect it, and the user will be able to verify this by similar actions.

This condition in a laptop with Windows 7 can occur for three reasons:

  • The radio adapter is turned off and needs to be turned on.
  • The adapter is defective.
  • The adapter drivers are not installed or need to be reinstalled.

We are only interested in the first case - when the corresponding adapter is turned off, and it is necessary to turn it on. This can be done in several ways.

Standard way to turn on Bluetooth

There is an icon for this radio module in the notification area of the Windows 7 taskbar.

To configure the state of the adapter, you need to click on it, a menu will appear. Next, click on the "Add device" item.

By hardware

There are laptop models equipped with hardware on / off buttons for the adapter. If there is one, then it must be set to ON.

Power on with the Fn key

Most laptops have an Fn key on their keyboard. It is designed to control the state of various equipment installed in the computer, including bluetooth. The top row of keys are function keys (usually F1 - F12), pressing which together with Fn does just that. In a laptop, depending on its manufacturer, the "blue tooth" state control key can correspond to different function keys, as a rule, these are F3-F5. The corresponding icon must be indicated on such a key.

Sometimes both wireless adapters are made in the same module, so they are turned on and off at the same time using this function key.

Via Device Manager

How to enter the Windows Device Manager has already been said at the beginning of the article. Entering it, you can see a picture with a list of all installed devices.

We are interested in the item "Bluetooth radio modules". Open it up, select the appropriate adapter and right-click on it. If this module is enabled, then the menu that appears will contain the "Disable" item, otherwise - the "Enable" item. This is what you need - click on it, the adapter turns on.

Enabling the radio module with third-party utilities

Depending on the manufacturer, there are a number of third-party utilities that can be used to enable the radio adapter. These are utilities such as:

  • Wireless Console (ASUS laptops).
  • ReadyComm (Lenovo laptops).
  • Utility Center (HP Notebook PCs).

They are all very easy to use and easy to find on the internet. After installing them in Windows 7, the Bluetooth logo icon appears in the notification bar. Right-clicking the mouse will bring up a menu with the item "Enable / disable Bluetooth adapter".

Using the command line

This method of turning on the radio communication module is more difficult than all those described above, so you should only resort to it if none of the methods already given helped. To enable this, you will need the DevCon utility - it is easy to find it on the Internet and download it. If it is downloaded in an archived state, then the archive must be unpacked. The program must be placed in the C: \ Windows \ system32 directory. In addition to this utility, you will also need the identifier (ID) of the radio module. It can be found using the Windows 7 Device Manager.

In it, open the item "Bluetooth radio modules", right-click on the desired module and select "Properties" in the menu that appears. A window will open in which you need to go to the "Details" tab, and select "Equipment ID" in the "Property" drop-down list. The first line in the "Value" window contains the ID of the selected radio communication module.

Next, we enter the command line mode. To do this, press "Start", enter cmd in the bottom line of the search, a window opens, in the top line of which is the value "cmd". We click on it, a window for entering the command line opens. In it we enter a line like devcon enable ID (without quotes). Instead of the ID, you must specify the hardware ID obtained from Device Manager. Press Enter, the DevCon utility starts, which turns on the disabled radio module.

In order to enable bluetooth in version 10 of the operating system from Microsoft, there are several ways:

Quite often, some users have one of the ways to activate the required function, maybe not available... This may be due to the established parameters either by default or by a malfunction of the operating system itself.

In this case, first of all, it is recommended to try to activate the bluetooth using the function keys on the keyboard. If this method did not help to cope with the problem, then perhaps on a personal computer not installed corresponding drivers. In this case, they will need to be downloaded from the official website of the laptop manufacturer or from any other third-party service. The software is installed quickly and in stages. Bluetooth on Windows 8

In order to activate the data exchange module for Windows 8 (not to be confused with updating Windows 8.1, since it has a completely different way of activating this parameter), you must perform the following steps:

If the above methods did not bring the desired result, then you should open device manager and see if bluetooth is activated there, and also check the originality of the drivers. Open the manager, you can use the key combination Windows + R and entering the command devmgmt.msc.

In devmgmt.msc you will need:

Enabling Bluetooth on Windows 8.1

For Windows 8.1, there is only one way that is suitable for activating the data transfer module:

After all the above actions are done, the device will go to auto search for a connection.

Enabling on Windows 7

On Windows 7, the easiest way to activate bluetooth is using proprietary utilities from Microsoft, which are located in the right pane of the control panel. You need to right-click on them and go to the menu Bluetooth settings, where this function is already activated. If the bluetooth menu item is not displayed in the settings, but the drivers are installed correctly, then you can proceed as follows:

If there is no icon in the notification area

On some laptops, before activating the connection in the settings themselves, you must move hardware switch Wireless into working mode (for example, on Sony laptops). If this is not done, then the bluetooth setting item is simply will not be displayed.

Also Wireless, can be replaced by activating hotkeys Fn+ icon Bluetooth(this method is usually suitable for Asus laptops manufactured before 2015).
