Characteristics of the first iPhone
The original iPhone, based on a P2 device from the Project Experience Purple team, codenamed M68 and numbered iPhone1,1, had a 3.5-inch LCD screen with a 320x480 (163ppi) resolution, running on 2G (EDGE) networks, with a Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, and a 2-megapixel camera.
The first iPhone had an ARM processor and a PowerVR MBX Lite 3D graphics chip made in Samsung factories. The battery was at 1400 mAh. RAM 128 megabytes. And two options for built-in memory: 4 gigabytes and 8 gigabytes.

Flaws
The original iPhone did not have CDMA and EVDO Rev A compatibility.That meant it couldn't work for two of the four major US mobile operators: Verizon and Sprint. O the original iPhone was exclusively for AT&T.

Running
But the presentation did not mark the final step in the evolution of the first iPhone. Designers Johnny Ive and Richard Howard did their job perfectly, but the iPhone still ran into hardware issues. Steve Jobs managed to scratch the screen of the pre-release version with keys and asked the team to find the best solution. They turned to Corning (a company that has specialized in the creation of unusual glass, ceramics, etc.), which recently invented a new chemically strong material and could not find use for it. What does the iPad have to do with it?
Few people know, but the idea of the touch screen in the iPhone is taken from the iPad. The idea of creating your own tablet came before the idea of creating an iPhone. Steve Jobs said at the 2010 D: All Things Digital conference hosted by the WSJ:

Purple 2
Development of the first iPhone began in early 2005. In February, Steve Jobs begins negotiations with AT&T. To release its own phone, the company needed to enlist the support of an operator. The negotiations dragged on for a year, but in the end the operator gave his consent. The phone was being developed in parallel. The iPhone was supposed to have a touchscreen and a minimum of buttons. The idea for the touchscreen is taken from the iPad. The complexity was in the interface. Steve Jobs hated stylus, that's what he said about them: "If you offer a stylus, you're dead." The user had to interact with the phone using his finger. The company took two paths: P1 became the codename of the phone developed using the proprietary iPod control wheel, and P2 - an alternative novelty using a multi-touch screen.
Development of the P1 was halted six months later. Tony Fadell, who is in charge of P1, admitted that he and his team were unable to find an easy dialing solution.
Screenshots of a prototype of the first iPhone have recently surfaced online. It is not clear whose prototype this is. On the one hand, the scroll wheel of the iPod is used as a control, and indeed the entire interface of the iPod, but it's all on the touch screen. Perhaps this is still one of the prototypes of the P2 shell.
All efforts were thrown into the development of the P2. In 2005, Apple acquires FingerWorks, a small company that owned patents for multitouch technology. Since the control of the phone should be carried out with a finger, certain difficulties arose, for example, how to type text.
