Apple founder Steve Jobs has passed away in the United States. IPhone history

In honor of the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, I want to please you with a great story of that very first iPhone! The article is based on materials from the iMore.com website. This is a loose translation - do not judge strictly.

On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs took to the stage for one of the most incredible performances of his life. A presentation that will go down in the history of consumer electronics. He said he will be unveiling today a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough Internet device. But these were not three products. It was one product. We got it, Steve. This was the first iPhone!

It was a rare occurrence for the company, a revolution in yet another product category. Apple had already made two revolutions before: Mac computers and personal music players, the iPod.(Over the next 10 years, there will be only two revolutionary products: iPad and Apple Watch) ...

First, the iPhone has gotten rid of the physical keyboard and stylus altogether: features that have dominated BlackBerry, Motorola, and other handheld smartphones. Secondly, Jobs introduced a multi-touch interface that allowed the user to zoom in on pictures; inertial scrolling of text and multitasking, which makes it possible to switch between applications ...

These were technologies that are now common in the industry but looked like science fiction back then. Jobs quote:

The iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is five years ahead of any other mobile phone.We are all born with the best pointing device - our fingers. ViPhone we usedthem to create the most user-friendly user interface since the invention of the mouse.

Characteristics of the first iPhone

The original iPhone, based on a P2 device from the Project Experience Purple team, codenamed M68 and numbered iPhone1,1, had a 3.5-inch LCD screen with a 320x480 (163ppi) resolution, running on 2G (EDGE) networks, with a Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, and a 2-megapixel camera.

The first iPhone had an ARM processor and a PowerVR MBX Lite 3D graphics chip made in Samsung factories. The battery was at 1400 mAh. RAM 128 megabytes. And two options for built-in memory: 4 gigabytes and 8 gigabytes.

The iPhone had several additional sensors for a better experience. An accelerometer that reacted to the rotation of the device ... A proximity sensor that turned off the screen if you put the phone to your ear ... A light sensor that could automatically adjust the brightness of the screen to ambient light.

iPhone charged using a 30-pin USB cable. Also, the wire was used to sync with iTunes.

Flaws

The original iPhone did not have CDMA and EVDO Rev A compatibility.That meant it couldn't work for two of the four major US mobile operators: Verizon and Sprint. O the original iPhone was exclusively for AT&T.

It also lacked GPS and support for higher 3G data rates. In addition to the touch keyboard and lack of a stylus, the iPhone did not have removable, user-replaceable batteries. Also, from the very beginning, the iPhone did not support SD cards.

The first iPhone had a closed file system, lacked copy and paste or any other form of advanced text editing, and, most importantly for many, support for third-party applications. In addition, the iPhone had a real web browser instead of a WAP browser and had no MMS support.

The iPhone also came out at an incredible price for that time - $ 499 for the 4GB model and $ 599 for the 8GB model. This was unheard of at the time.

Taken together, this allowed critics to say that the iPhone has no future ...

Running

But the presentation did not mark the final step in the evolution of the first iPhone. Designers Johnny Ive and Richard Howard did their job perfectly, but the iPhone still ran into hardware issues. Steve Jobs managed to scratch the screen of the pre-release version with keys and asked the team to find the best solution. They turned to Corning (a company that has specialized in the creation of unusual glass, ceramics, etc.), which recently invented a new chemically strong material and could not find use for it. This is how the Gorilla Glass screen appeared on the iPhone.

The software development team led by Scott Forstal continued to improve the interface. So Steve Jobs felt that the split screen for mail is inconvenient, because the iPhone screen is already too small. The programmers had to make sure that the applications were not just reliable, but amazing!

They added a full version of Safari, based on the engine that the Mac team led by Don Malton built. The best implementation of maps based on Google Maps was screwed into the system, and in the end the programmers added a native Youtube application, which existed in iOS until 2012.

On June 6, 2007, Steve Jobs took the stage again at the Moscone Center at the Worldwide Developers Conference to announce the launch of Web 2.0 as a development platform. But on this day, he told something more - the launch date of the first iPhone!

Sales began at several of Apple's flagship stores. For example, in the famous glass cube in New York. People were so hooked on the novelty that they frankly didn’t give a damn about the lack of many functions and the high price. The reviews from the world's leading publications were generally positive:

The Wall Street Journal wrote:

Our verdict is this: despite some flaws and artistic omissions, the iPhone is a beautiful breakthrough PDA. His software sets a new benchmark for the entire smartphone industry ...

Engadget wrote:

It is quite certain that with the iPhone, Apple has raised the bar not only for the mobile phone, but also for portable media players and multifunction devices in general.

On September 5, 2007, Steve Jobs unveiled not only the new iPod, but announced that Apple was dropping the iPhone price to $ 399 for the 8GB model. Quote on this:

The iPhone customer satisfaction survey research is higher than we've ever seen for any Apple product. We clearly received a fundamentally new product and we want to make it available to even more customers!

On February 5, 2008, the pleas of users who did not have enough memory were heard - an iPhone with 16 gigabytes of memory was announced.

IPhone competitors

In 2007, all smartphones had a full keyboard. Their surfing capabilities were limited to WAP browsers. The screens were resistive. Mobile apps were different even for one manufacturer.

Steve Ballmer (former Microsoft CEO):

You can get Motorola Q for $ 99 andyou will have the most expensive phone on the market today. N There is no chance that the iPhone will gain any significant market share. No chance.

Here's another quote from Ballmer:

Right now, we are selling millions, millions, millions of phones every year. Apple sells 0 phones a year. In six months they will have the most expensive phone in the history of the market. Let's see…

You have to understand that at that time there was a completely different world. High-speed mobile internet was just gaining momentum and was very expensive. Smartphones were limited by the market and were not as popular as conventional mobile phones. Many didn’t believe in the iPhone, but that’s how it came out ...

Every year Apple presents a new iPhone model, which is bound to contain a couple of interesting features. Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone. So we decided to remember how it was before today.

And at the same time we want ask you: which of these iPhones was your first?

Go, nostalgic.

1. iPhone (2007)

The first iPhone was innovative in itself. Restrained design, minimum of elements on the body, strict front panel.

Remember what smartphones looked like before the iPhone appeared: protruding antennas, joysticks, a bunch of buttons under the screen (sometimes even above it), styluses, a sliding qwerty keyboard and obscene thickness. Now look at the windows of any electronics store. Most of the devices are very similar to what Steve Jobs demonstrated on January 9, 2007.

The company showed how Apple smartphones will look for the next few years, and in the future followed the established principle.

What upset: unfortunately, there are no drawbacks, the first generation iPhone did not receive a number of functions that competitors had (3G support, video recording, multitasking, etc.), the operating system was closed to the user, there were many Apple restrictions (you cannot transfer pictures and music to other users, limited support for data formats, download files only through iTunes).

The big fail was the headphone jack, which was too deep, which did not allow the use of many 3.5 mm headsets.

2. iPhone 3G (2008)

The smartphone began to acquire functions, primarily due to the update of the mobile operating system. In iOS 2.0, we saw the App Store. Since then, third-party developers have been able to make money for us by releasing iPhone apps. On Tim Cook reported more than 2 million applications in the store.

And with the release of the iPhone 3G, we saw support for UMTS, HSDPA, A-GPS and different body colors (black and white).

What upset: plastic case and its low wear resistance. Within a few months, the back panel was covered with scratches, cracks appeared near the cable connector, and with active use, even pieces broke off.

3. iPhone 3GS (2009)

In 2009, we first learned that Apple was not going to update the design every year. After that, on odd years, "eski" began to come out with last year's design, but with new hardware.

The model was remembered for the appearance of a camera with autofocus and the ability to shoot video. For the first time, the iPhone has a digital compass. Among the software innovations, it should be noted multitasking and voice control (Voice Control).

What upset: old design.

4. iPhone 4 (2010)

With this model, we learned about a high pixel density screen - the Retina Display. Having held such a device in my hands for 5 minutes, I did not want to use the screens of the previous generation. Until now, pixel densities over 300 ppi are considered the standard. The technology began to be used not only in the iPhone, it appeared on Apple tablets and computers.

The device is also remembered by the front camera, LED flash and gyroscope.

What upset: antenna gate has become a big fail for Apple. With a certain grip, the iPhone 4 lost the network and this was massive. Jobs and company had to apologize and hastily "reinvent" the bumpers.

5. iPhone 4s (2011)

The main innovation of the latest smartphone released under Jobs (Tim Cook hosted the event, and Steve passed away the day after the presentation) was the voice assistant Siri.

Then the chip seemed unsuitable for use. Later, Siri learned a number of commands, learned a few rhymes and anecdotes, and even mastered the Russian language.

The iPhone itself was able to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi, shoot Full-HD video, broadcast the image via AirPlay. And the developers have combined GSM and CDMA models in one device.

What upset: lack of support for the Russian language in Siri.

6. iPhone 5 (2012)

In 2012, we learned that Apple is capable of making a device with a screen diagonal larger than 3.5 inches. The 30-pin connector was gone, replaced by Lightning, which is with us to this day.

With this model, many first learned about the nano-Sim format (remember how you cut your cards with scissors?) And the EarPods headset.

What upset: strange paint on the back that quickly peeled off.

7. iPhone 5s (2013)

This device has a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. It's hard to imagine how much time these sensors save us every day. Instead of entering a long password, just put your finger on.

The iPhone 5s is the first Apple smartphone to come in gold.

We will not consider the iPhone 5c model. Apple went on an experiment that was never repeated, the device had no innovations, but was only a cheaper copy of the iPhone 5 in a colored plastic case.

What upset: 64-bit processor and 32-bit applications, the App Store was not ready for the release of a model with a new processor. Until the developers adapted programs and games, many 32-bit applications performed worse on the iPhone 5s than on the iPhone 5.

8. iPhone 6/6 Plus (2014)

In 2014 we saw the first shovels from Apple. Two years later, they got used to this size of a smartphone, but then it was overkill.

Slim body, powerful stuffing, camera with Full HD shooting at 60 frames per second and optical stabilization (in the Plus model).

What upset: we haven't forgotten Apple's ad with the perfect screen size for a smartphone yet. And for the first time we saw how the iPhone bends en masse.

9. iPhone 6s / 6s Plus (2015)

Last year's new products include a pressure-sensitive display with 3D Touch and software innovations associated with the use of this technology. And there was also a new color "rose gold".

What upset: too few innovations and software chips of questionable usefulness ("live" photos, pop-up menus).

There was also a "tuned" iPhone 5S with a sly name "SE"(who forgot), but the model can hardly be called innovative. The device did not bring anything new to the lineup, although it became the most powerful 4-inch smartphone on the market.

10. iPhone 7/7 Plus (2016)

This year, the iPhone has stopped being afraid of water, has become smarter in using battery power and has begun to produce stereo sound. A rather controversial decision was the rejection of the 3.5 mm jack. Now the headphones are only Bluetooth or Lightning.

And in the line of as many as 5 body colors, this has not been the case since the iPhone 5c.

What upset: practically unchanged design and scratching "black onyx", which is impossible to buy.

Now try to remember how you reacted to the innovations of each model at the time of its appearance. Nobody ran headlong for the iPhone just from the appearance of 3G or LTE support, a front camera or flash, Siri or a large screen. At the time these chips appeared, they seemed unnecessary to many, but now we use them several times a day.

Today iPhone turns 10 years old. On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone, and 10 years later, the iPhone generates more than half of the company's revenue.

In 2005-2007, the iPod for Apple was like the iPhone for Apple today, i.e. it accounted for most of the revenue. It was in 2005 that the development of the iPhone began. It was originally planned to use the developments of the Purple 1 project, i.e. The iPod was supposed to act as the base of the iPhone.

Purple 1

In parallel with the development of the first iPod, Steve Jobs did not leave the idea of creating his own phone. It was assumed that the iPod would serve as the basis, and the proprietary ClickWheel was supposed to be used to control the system.

The phone was supposed to be completely devoid of the usual control buttons, which at that time was unusual. Judging by the patents, dialing should have been the same as on old wired telephones. Interestingly, this option could well have the right to life. The biggest problem with this solution is working with text. Scrolling the wheel to type the desired letter is not the best idea, Apple understood this and suggested using hints as help, which would still be inconvenient. The project was closed in 2002.

What does the iPad have to do with it?

Few people know, but the idea of the touch screen in the iPhone is taken from the iPad. The idea of creating your own tablet came before the idea of creating an iPhone. Steve Jobs said at the 2010 D: All Things Digital conference hosted by the WSJ:

"I'll tell you a secret. Actually, I started with a tablet. I had an idea to get rid of the keyboard so that I could type directly on a glass multitouch display. And I asked our guys if we could offer such a glass multitouch display." On which you could type, just put your hands on it and type. And after six months they invited me and showed me a prototype of such a screen. And I took it to one of our great guys who are engaged in user interfaces. After a few weeks he called me - it had inertial scrolling ready. Seeing the ribbon, inertial scrolling and a couple of other things, I thought, "Oh my God, we can make a phone out of this!" And put the tablet project on the shelf. Because the phone was more important. For the next few years, we worked on the iPhone. "

Purple 2
Development of the first iPhone began in early 2005. In February, Steve Jobs begins negotiations with AT&T. To release its own phone, the company needed to enlist the support of an operator. At the beginning of negotiations, Apple did not even have a prototype, the iPhone was then at the discussion stage. The negotiations dragged on for a year, but in the end the operator gave his consent. The phone was being developed in parallel. The first half of 2005 was a time of preparation: recruiting engineers, discussing ideas. Development itself begins at the end of 2005. The iPhone was supposed to have a touchscreen and a minimum of buttons. The idea for the touchscreen is taken from the iPad. The complexity was in the interface. Steve Jobs hated stylus, that's what he said about them: "If you offer a stylus, you're dead." The user had to interact with the phone using his finger. The company took two paths: P1 became the codename of the phone developed using the proprietary iPod control wheel, and P2 - an alternative novelty using a multi-touch screen.

Development of the P1 was halted six months later. Tony Fadell, who is in charge of P1, admitted that he and his team were unable to find an easy dialing solution.

Screenshots of a prototype of the first iPhone have recently surfaced online. It is not clear whose prototype this is. On the one hand, the scroll wheel of the iPod is used as a control, and indeed the entire interface of the iPod, but it's all on the touch screen. Perhaps this is still one of the prototypes of the P2 shell.

All efforts were thrown into the development of the P2. In 2005, Apple acquires FingerWorks, a small company that owned patents for multitouch technology. Since the control of the phone should be carried out with a finger, certain difficulties arose, for example, how to type text. Some employees have suggested implementing a physical keypad or QWERTY keyboard, but Steve Jobs vetoed those ideas.

"The pushbutton keyboard seems like a simple solution, but it limits our options. Think of all the innovations we could bring if we could bring the keyboard to the screen using software. Let's bet on that, and then we'll find a way to make it work." ...

The result was a device that could show different layouts depending on the task. Many solutions were new for 2007, such as the proximity sensor.

Design

Initially, they planned to install a plastic screen in the iPhone, but Jobs decided to make a glass screen, so the phone would seem more solid and sleek. Steve Jobs didn't like the original iPhone design and decided to completely redesign it. I even had to change the location of the insides of the device. The result was a smartphone with a sleek metal body and a metal frame that connected the screen and body.

iPhone OS

In the first version of iOS, then the iPhone OS, the phone lost to its competitors in terms of functionality. What was so special about him? It was a pleasure to work with, all applications launched smoothly and worked quickly, and some familiar things were simplified. The operating system was completely closed, again at the initiative of Steve Jobs, he wanted to completely control the phone. There was not even an App Store, the ability to install applications appeared only in the iPhone 3G. Apple didn't know what to name its operating system, so they said "iPhone runs OS X". The specifications also listed OS X as the operating system.

Interesting Facts

  • The development of the first iPhone, like the development of any new product at Apple, was held in the strictest confidence.

Apple engineer Greg Christie said:

"Mid-term meetings on smartphone development were held twice a month. Jobs personally listened to reports from his subordinates in a small, windowless room."

The developer Terry Lambert, who is responsible for developing the iOS and OS X kernel, recalls the following:

"I wrote about 6% of the Mac OS X kernel line-by-line in 8 years. That's about 100,000 lines of code a year. IOS has the same kernel. I was not involved in Project Purple, but unofficially I came into contact with it because I was a great kernel debugger, and the kernel must be well debugged. At some point you have to give up because releasing a product is more important than being too secretive. As a result, I ended up in a zone where everything is covered with black cloth. - either worked at Apple, they know that under the black fabrics are secret projects. You have to pretend that you do not notice them. I can only see the device for remote debugging, not the product, but it was obvious that work was being done on a system based on ARM If you want to make a witty Halloween costume at Apple, grab a black sheet, cut out the eyeholes and walk like a “secret project.” The insight comes when you sign an NDA. The NDA has a codename. You won't be able to see it. , bye do not agree not to disclose it. Apple also says different codenames to different groups of workers. You and someone else may be working on the same project and not know about it, or you just won't be able to discuss it. After signing, you get access to the "secret laboratory". This is a laboratory inside the main laboratory. Not everyone with access to the main laboratory has access to the "secret laboratory." There is no way for you to see the form factor. Initial work is in progress with Plexiglas prototypes. Were there special cables for communication with prototypes? Yes, they were purple.

“Almost all the rehearsals that the team conducted in Silicon Valley failed. Jobs never managed to get through the entire hour and a half of the presentation without overlapping. The phone either lost contact or was not connected to the Internet. engineers for every failure. "

Every year Apple pleases its fans and releases a new iPhone model, which certainly has some interesting new products. Apple smartphone sales are growing every year. The first original iPhone hit the market 10 years ago. This is the real era in terms of technology. Do you remember what the first iPhone looked like, what functions it possessed, and what features were built into subsequent generations? After reading this article, you will learn about all the iPhone models that have been released from the very beginning.

iPhone: what it is and by whom it was created

iPhone is a series of smartphones that was developed by Apple. They run the iOS operating system, which is a simplified and optimized version of macOS. These smartphones were developed by Apple Corporation. The iPhone was announced by Steve Jobs at the Macworld Expo on January 9, 2007.

Steve Jobs is an American entrepreneur who has gained his acclaim in IT technology. He is one of the founders of Apple and the Pixar film studio. The name iPhone comes from the English word "phone", which means "phone" with the addition of the letter i. Steve Jobs stated at the presentation that the letter "i" stands for the word "Internet".

IPhone smartphones: reviews of generations from 1 to 10 (all 10 generations)

The iPhone appeared thanks to the player from Apple - the iPod, since in 2001 it became very popular all over the world. Steve Jobs has long wanted to develop a device that would combine all the gadgets wearable by people. From the very beginning, they thought to make a tablet, but after they developed a touch screen and several other modules, it was decided to create a smartphone.

The prototype of the very first iPhone was the Motorola ROKR mobile phone, which was a real flop of the year. Apple took into account all the mistakes that were in this phone, and began to develop its smartphone in strict secrecy. Below we will tell you about all iPhone models.

1. iPhone 2G (2007)

The first iPhone model was known as the iPhone 2G and was introduced in the US on January 9, 2007. In the first weekend, 700,000 copies were sold. The new smartphone combines the capabilities of a phone, a music player and a PDA. The sales of the new generation phone began on June 29, 2007. The first iPhone received:

  • LCD TFT touch screen with LED backlight;
  • Screen diagonal 3.5 inches;
  • Resolution 320x480;
  • Battery 3.7V, 1400mAh;
  • RAM 128 MB;
  • Weight 135 g;
  • 2 megapixel camera;
  • 2G network support;
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

There were variations for 4.8 and 16 GB of flash memory. But not without drawbacks. The iPhone did not support 3G, could not record video, and multitasking was absent. Also, the operating system was closed for users, and there were many restrictions, for example, it was impossible to transfer pictures or music to other users. This phone had a very deep headphone jack that didn't allow for 3.5mm headsets.

2. iPhone 3G (2008)

A year later, the second model of the iPhone came out. Unveiled this model in San Francisco on June 10, 2008. And this smartphone went on sale on July 11, 2008. There are some changes in this model:

  • Battery 3.7V, 1150mAh;
  • The models came out only with 8 and 16 GB of flash memory;
  • Availability of 3G;
  • Added compass and copy-paste function;
  • The App Store appeared in iOS 2.0;
  • We started releasing apps for the iPhone.

Quite a few were upset by the option that the iPhone was made of plastic, which had low wear resistance. Literally after 2-3 months, the case was covered with scratches, cracks appeared near the connector for connection, and sometimes even some pieces broke off.

3. iPhone 3GS (2009)

With the advent of this model, everyone learned that Apple is not going to update the design every year. And on odd years, S versions began to appear. The official release took place on June 8, 2009 and again in San Francisco, but the new model went on sale on June 19, 2009 in the USA, Canada and 7 European countries. A week later, the iPhone 3GS began selling in Australia and the UK. Outwardly, this model was no different, the company worked on what was inside it. And in the end we got:

  • 3 megapixel camera;
  • RAM 256 MB;
  • Powerful 1219 mAh battery;
  • Model with 32GB flash memory;
  • Updated operating system iOS.

The camera got autofocus, the owners of this model could shoot video, and it also got multitasking and the ability to control the voice.

4. iPhone 4 (2010)

The fourth iPhone model was unveiled on June 7, 2010, all in the same city as the previous models. And on June 24, 2010, sales of the new iPhone 4 began in the USA, France, Germany, Great Britain, and Japan. The appearance of the smartphone has changed. It has become more square, and the corners of the phone are rounded. There have been other changes as well, namely:

  • 5 megapixel camera;
  • RAM 512 MB;
  • Video filming in HD format;
  • LED flash;
  • Resolution 640x960;
  • Battery 1420 mAh;
  • Front camera for video calling with 0.3 megapixel resolution;
  • Models for 8, 16 and 32 GB of flash memory.

5. iPhone 4S (2011)

In 2011, the fifth iPhone model was released, which was called the iPhone 4S. The release dates have shifted, and took place in the city of Cupertino on October 4, 2011. The presentation was already led by Tim Cook, as Steve Jobs was very sick and died the day after the presentation of the new phone model. On October 7, we started accepting pre-orders. Again, no external changes occurred. Only the filling has changed, namely:

  • Installed processor instead of Apple A4, new A5;
  • 8 megapixel camera;
  • Weight 140 grams;
  • Models with 16, 32 and 64 GB of flash memory;
  • Updated version of iOS;
  • Siri voice assistant;
  • Shooting in Full-HD format.

At first, Siri was of little use and almost no one used it. Later she learned to carry out some commands, learned a few poems and anecdotes, and even mastered the Russian language.

6. iPhone 5 (2012)

Despite the fact that this is already the sixth model, the new iPhone came out under the iPhone 5 brand. It happened on September 12, 2012. And on September 19, the new model went on sale. iPhone 5 has undergone significant changes. He changed not only internally, but also externally. Below are all the changes that have befallen this model:

  • 4-inch screen;
  • Weight 112 grams;
  • The model is presented in versions 16.32.64 GB;
  • RAM 1 GB;
  • The front camera has been improved to 1.2 megapixels.

Thanks to this model, the whole world learned about the nano-SIM format. Many began to cut their cards with scissors. Also there was a headset EarPods.

7. iPhone 5S and 5C (2013)

This year, Apple released on September 10 not one model, but two at once: the 5S-standard type and 5C-budget. The difference between them was only in the material from which the body was made. For the budget version, plastic was used instead of aluminum. Consequently, their weight also differed. The stuffing of these models did not differ from the predecessor, all the same cameras, processor, screen diagonal. The operating system has changed and became iOS 7. Both models came in a configuration of 16, 32 GB, and 5S also in 64 GB of flash memory. A new feature is the fingerprint scanner. Now there was no need to enter a password, but just put your finger on the scanner. Also, the 5S smartphone was first released in gold color.

8. iPhone 6 and 6Plus (2014)

And in 2014, all iPhone fans saw Apple's shovels. Of course, after a few years, everyone got used to this size, but at that time it seemed to many that it was too much. The release took place on September 9, 2014. The company released two smartphones at once. But the diagonal of the screen of the iPhone 6 was 4.7 inches with a resolution of 1334x750 pixels, and the iPhone 6Plus was 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.

In the first 3 days, more than 10 million devices of this model were sold. They have a new dual-core processor A8 with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. These models came out already in a configuration of 128 GB, but were also in 16 and 64 GB.

9. iPhone 6S and 6S Plus (2015)

Exactly one year later, on September 9, 2015, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus were introduced. There were no obvious changes in them, but simply an improvement on previous models. And only the filling has undergone such changes, namely:

  • RAM has become 2 GB;
  • 12 megapixel camera;
  • Touchscreen (pressure level recognition using 3D Touch technology).

Many iPhone fans were disappointed with these models, as there were very few changes to them. A new color "rose gold" has appeared in this line.

10. iPhone SE (2016)

This model was introduced on March 21, 2016. Outwardly, it was very similar to the iPhone 5S, but despite this, its external characteristics were similar to the iPhone 6S. It runs on the iOS11 operating system, has an Apple A9 processor, a fingerprint scanner. Available in four colors, namely space gray, silver, gold and rose gold. Display 4 inches. The picture shows clear and bright.

iPhone SE lets you shoot and edit 4K video at up to four times the resolution of HD video. Browsing the Internet, downloading games and applications is now much faster.

11. iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (2016)

The new models were presented on September 7, 2016. Many people liked the changes that took place in these models. Below is the list of changes:

  • The "Home" button has become not mechanical, but sensitive;
  • Added protection against water and dust;
  • Dual camera 12 +12 MP;
  • Flash with 4 LEDs;
  • Front camera 7 MP;
  • Two speakers (top and bottom);
  • There is no 3.5 mm jack, there is a headphone adapter.

Apple decided that it was time to abandon conventional headphones and therefore, following the new iPhone model, released AirPods wireless headphones. With the help of them, you can listen to music, talk on the phone, call Siri and hear what she says. They also know how to analyze noise and muffle it for communication.

12. iPhone 8, iPhone 8+ (2017)

Before the iPhone, Apple had other products that were worth your attention, but when this little 3.5-inch smartphone came along, it went crazy.

Every year everyone was waiting for its release as a new year. Many Yabloko players did not miss a single presentation and are looking forward to the next one.

IPhones release dates

Before I start, I want to say that I will be looking at smartphones in groups. Each iPhone is worthy of its own special attention, so let's get started.

We will never forget this year. Was distant 2007 year and when it came January 9 many more did not understand that the era of something great was beginning.

At that time, when the minimum memory size was only 4 GB, when the RAM was only 128 MB and the most interesting thing, the processor was from Samsung, and its frequency was only 620 MHz - everyone just prayed for this phone.

Then we saw only small changes in design and small improvements in performance. Then, not everyone could afford to buy such a luxurious phone.

It doesn't matter what his camera shoots, it is not clear how, the main thing is that it is Apple and then the time began when the actors began to use this phone in every film.

  • 3 : June 10, 2008;
  • 3GS: June 8, 2009.

It was like quite recently. Despite the fact that the phones are really outdated, some people still use them.

This era of smartphones really kicked off in its time, and then the new case with glass elements showed everyone what Apple's designers are capable of.

A compact but powerful smartphone has been at the top among smartphones for a very long time. And despite its year of release, these two are also quite popular now.

  • 4 : June 7, 2010;
  • 4S: October 7, 2011.

Unfortunately, many people forget these legends, because now large screens are already popular. The characteristics of the two legends are fading away every day against the backdrop of today's market.

These four have one thing in common - they all have a great, compact and multi-user-friendly 4-inch display.

Many people think that this is just the golden mean for a smartphone, when the screen is not too small and it is still very convenient to surf the Internet and use applications.

  • 5 : September 12, 2012;
  • 5S, 5C: September 10, 2013;
  • SE: March 21, 2016.

Lovers of such a compact size are very happy with the release of the SE model. Now all the best in one smartphone - design from 5S and filling from 6S.

Many waited for the era of shovels to come with the iPhone. The dream of millions of people came true and two large phones were born at once: 4.7 and 5.5 inches.

People just started to go crazy when these new items appeared. I had to alter my pants pockets to make this giant smartphone fit.

  • 6, 6 PLUS: September 9, 2014
  • 6S, 6S PLUS: September 9, 2015.

The second series with the letter "S" showed greater success, because the cameras have become better, the RAM has doubled at once and now it is an incredibly difficult competitor for everyone.

The design resembles its predecessor in many ways, but thanks to new chips like moisture protection and persistent tilt towards the camera, they made themselves felt.

The power of smartphones in this line knows no limits. All performance ratings show these gadgets in the top.

  • 7, 7 PLUS: September 7, 2016.

It's no secret that many people want to buy this smartphone for themselves. Having got such a phone, you immediately get a lot of pleasure and get a little fairy tale called Apple.

Now you know the release dates for each of the smartphones. You can calmly navigate and understand that even buying an iPhone 6, you are holding in your hands a different old man.
