Utility for updating radion drivers. Updating AMD Radeon Graphics Drivers

Before installing / updating drivers, temporarily disable the antivirus and (or) other security programs installed on your computer.

To install \ update drivers, download the program AMD Catalyst AutoDetect to determine the most suitable drivers for your system from the official AMD website. To do this, follow the link and click “Download” in the “Automatic detection and driver download” section:

Program AMD Catalyst AutoDetect does not need installation - just run it and if it detects a new driver, follow these steps:

1. Click the “Download Now” button

2. Wait for the new driver and software to download.

3. Unpack the downloaded drivers on your computer to the default folder.

4. Wait until the unpacking of the driver and software is complete.

5. In the Catalyst Installation Manager window that opens, click Next.

6. In the next window, leave the settings that will be selected automatically and click "Next".

7. Accept the AMD License Agreement by clicking “Accept”.

8. Wait for the driver and software installation to complete. Please note that the monitor may start to flicker during installation, this is normal. When the installation is complete, click “Finish”.

9. Reboot your computer and run the program AMD Catalyst AutoDetect again. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed on your system.

Important! Remember to run your antivirus and / or other security software after installing AMD drivers and software.

Manual installation of the Radeon driver is straightforward. All you need is 5 minutes of free time and a couple of mouse clicks. And now you will see for yourself.

Installing a driver on a graphics card is the same on Windows 7, 8 or 10. The operating system version does not affect this.

Do the following:

  1. Go to the official website and open the desired page (see screenshot below).
  2. Here you will be offered 2 options to choose from - automatic AMD installation and manual. First, let's install it manually (we will consider the first option below).
  3. In the first paragraph, choose one of two options: "Desktop Graphics" (for PC owners) or "Notebook Graphics" (for laptop owners).
  4. In the second paragraph, indicate the series of your video card, and in the third, its model.
  5. Finally, the last step is choosing your operating system version.
  6. After that press the button "Display Results".
  7. The system will find the current driver for the AMD video card and provide a download link. To download it, click the "Download" button.

Next, run the installation file and follow the instructions. There is nothing complicated there, so you can do it yourself perfectly. After the installation is complete, you need to restart your PC or laptop for all changes to take effect.

When you run the file, the program will ask you which installation to perform - Quick or Custom. We recommend that you select the "Fast" option. It is also recommended to leave the installation directory by default (as it is).

Automatic installation of AMD Radeon drivers

In this case, the procedure is even easier, since the program will do everything for you.

In the third paragraph, when trying to download the driver, the error "Could not download file: Could not parse error" may appear. Disable your antivirus for a while and it will disappear.

A few words in conclusion

An old friend of mine bought himself a laptop to play with new toys. Yes, the laptop is not well suited for games, but now is not about that. It had 2 video cards installed: integrated and gaming. Plus there was a special button for switching them.

Overjoyed by the new purchase, a friend instantly installed a couple of new games and let's play. But for some reason they were buggy, slowed down, sometimes they crashed. And the laptop was considered powerful.

The reason turned out to be commonplace - the drivers were not installed. That is, the gaming video card did not work at all, and all this time he was playing on the integrated one, which is suitable for a maximum of gatherings on the Internet. Of course, all games slowed down. I told him about it - we laughed together, then we installed new drivers on the graphics card, and on that the problem was solved. Here's a funny case.

By the way, AMD drivers are also required to adjust the native resolution of the monitor or laptop screen. Otherwise, the maximum that you can expose is 1024x768 or even 800x600 pixels. And the image at this resolution, I must say, is very mediocre.

Therefore, do not be lazy and check if you have the driver installed on your video card. Even if you just surf the Internet and sometimes watch movies. If it suddenly turns out that he is not there, this is no longer a problem.

Good day. The performance of a video card is highly dependent on the drivers used. Very often, developers make driver fixes that can slightly improve the performance of the card, especially for new games.

The picture in the game (or in the video) freezes, it may start to twitch, slow down (especially if the game should work normally according to the system requirements);

Changing the color of some elements. For example, I once did not display fire on the Radeon 9600 card (more precisely, it was not bright orange or red - instead it was a faded light orange color). After the update - the colors played with new colors !;

Some games and applications crash with video driver errors (like "no response was received from the video driver ...").

And so, let's get started ...

1) How to find out the model of your video card?

Before downloading and installing / updating drivers, you need to know the exact model of the video card. Let's look at several ways to do this.

Method number 1

The easiest option is to pick up the documents and papers that came with the PC when purchasing. In 99% of cases, these documents will include all the characteristics of your computer, including the model of the video card. Often, especially on laptops, there are stickers with the specified model.

Method number 2

Use some special utility to determine the characteristics of your computer (link to an article about such programs:). Personally, I like hwinfo the most lately.

Pros: there is a portable version (no need to install); free; shows all the main characteristics; there are versions for all Windows operating systems, including 32 and 64 bit; no need to configure, etc. - just start and after 10 seconds. you will know everything about your graphics card!

For example, on my laptop, this utility produced the following:

Video card - AMD Radeon HD 6650M.

Method number 3

I don't really like this method, and it is suitable for those who update the driver (and do not reinstall it). In Windows 7/8, you first need to go to the control panel.

Then in Device Manager, open the "video adapters" tab - it should display your video card. See screenshot below.

And so, now knowing the model of the card, you can start looking for a driver for it.

2) Driver update for AMD graphics card (Radeon)

The first thing to do is to go to the manufacturer's official website, to the drivers section - http://support.amd.com/ru-ru/download

Then there are several options for action: you can manually set the parameters and find the driver, or you can use the auto-search (for this, you will need to download a small utility on your PC). Personally, I recommend installing it manually (more reliable).

Selecting AMD Driver Manually ...

Then, in the menu, specify the main parameters (consider the parameters from the screenshot below):

Notebook Graphics (a video card from a laptop. If you have a regular computer, specify Desktop Graphics);

Radeon HD Series (the series of your video card is indicated here, you can find out from its name. For example, if the model is AMD Radeon HD 6650M, then its series is HD);

Windows 7 64 bits (your Windows OS is specified).

Actually: it remains to download and install them. With this, usually no further problems arise ...

3) Updating the driver for the Nvidia video card

Official site for downloading drivers for Nvidia video cards - http://www.nvidia.ru/Download/index.aspx?lang=ru

Take the GeForce GTX 770 as an example (not the newest, but it will work to show you how to find a driver).

Product type: GeForce graphics card;

Product series: GeForce 700 Series (the series follows from the name of the GeForce GTX 770 card);

Product family: specify your GeForce GTX 770 card;

Operating system: just specify your OS (many drivers go automatically immediately to Windows 7 and 8).

4) Automatic driver search and update in Windows 7/8

In some cases, it is possible to update the driver for a video card even without using any utilities - right from Windows (at least now we are talking about Windows 7/8)!

1. First you need to go to device Manager- you can open it from the OS control panel by going to the section system and safety.

3. Then you need to select a search option: automatic (Windows will search for drivers on the Internet and on your PC) and manual (you will need to specify the folder with the drivers located).

Windows has determined that the drivers for this device do not need to be updated.

5) Special. driver search utilities

In this article, I will introduce one that I use myself to find the most recent driver updates - Slim Drivers. She searches so well that after scanning her - there is nothing more to update in the system!

Although, of course, the category of such programs should be treated with a certain degree of caution - before updating the drivers, make a backup copy of the OS (and if something goes wrong, roll back; by the way, the program creates backup points for system recovery automatically).

Official website of the program: http://www.driverupdate.net/

By the way, when you update all drivers, you can make a backup copy of all drivers right in Slim Drivers. They may be needed if you have to reinstall Windows in the future, or if you suddenly unsuccessfully update some drivers, and you need to roll back the system. Thanks to the backup copy - well, you will need to look for drivers, spend time on this - the program can simply and easily restore them from the prepared backup.

That's all, happy update everyone ...

Sooner or later, any software needs to be updated. A video card is a component, which in particular depends on the manufacturer's support. New software versions make this device more stable, customizable and powerful. If the user does not have experience in upgrading the software of PC components, such a task as installing the latest driver version can be difficult. In this article, we will look at the options for installing it for AMD Radeon video cards.

Each owner of a video card can install one of two types of driver: a complete software package and a basic one. In the first case, he will receive a utility with basic and advanced settings, and in the second - only the ability to set any screen resolution. Both options allow you to comfortably use a computer, play games, watch high-definition video.

Before moving on to the main topic, I would like to make two comments:

Method 1: Update via the installed utility

As a rule, many users have proprietary software from AMD, where fine-tuning of the component takes place. If you do not have it, go to the next method immediately. All other users just need to run the Catalyst Control Center utility or Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition and update. More details about this process through each of the programs are written in our separate articles. There you will find all the information you need to get the latest version.

Method 2: Official site of the program

The correct choice would be to use the official AMD Internet resource, where the drivers for all software released by this corporation are located. Here the user can find the latest software version for any video card and save it to his PC.

This option is suitable for those users who have not yet installed any of the utilities corresponding to their video card. However, if you have problems downloading drivers through the Catalyst Control Center or Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition, this method is also suitable for you.

A detailed guide on downloading and installing the required software has been reviewed by us in other articles. You will find links to them just above, in "Method 1". There you can also read about the subsequent manual update procedure. The only difference is that you need to know the model of the video card, otherwise you will not be able to download the correct version. If you suddenly forgot or do not know at all what is installed in your PC / laptop, read the article that will tell you how to easily identify the product model.

Method 3: Third Party Software

If you plan to update drivers for different components and peripherals, it is more convenient to automate this process using special software. Such applications scan the computer and give a list of the software that needs updating or initial installation. Accordingly, you can perform both full and selective driver updates, for example, only the video card or some other components at your discretion. The list of such programs is a topic for a separate article, the link to which is just below.

If you decide to choose DriverPack Solution or DriverMax from this list, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the instructions for working in each of these programs.

Method 4: Device ID

A video card or any other device that is a physical separate component of a computer has a unique code. Each model has its own, thanks to which the system knows that you have connected to the PC, for example, AMD Radeon HD 6850, and not HD 6930. ID is displayed in "Device Manager", namely in the properties of the graphics adapter.

Using it, through special online services with driver databases, you can download the desired one and install it manually. This method is suitable for users who need to update to a specific software version due to possible incompatibilities between the utility and the operating system. It is worth noting that on such sites the latest versions of programs do not appear immediately, but there is a complete list of previous revisions.

When downloading files in this way, it is important to correctly identify the ID and use a secure online service so that during installation you do not infect Windows with viruses that attackers often add to drivers. For people unfamiliar with this method of searching for software, we have prepared a separate instruction.

Method 5: Windows standard tools

The operating system is able to install the minimum driver version that allows you to work with the connected video card. In this case, you will not have an additional proprietary application from AMD (Catalyst Control Center / Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition), but the graphics adapter itself is involved, it will allow you to set the maximum screen resolution available to your own configuration and will be able to be determined by games, programs with 3D and Windows itself.

This method is the choice of the most unassuming users who do not want to perform manual configuration and increase the performance of the device. In fact, this method does not need to be updated: it is enough to install the driver on the GPU once and forget about it before reinstalling the OS.

All actions are again performed through "Device Manager", and what exactly needs to be done to update, read in a separate manual.

We looked at 5 universal options for updating the AMD Radeon graphics card driver. We recommend that you complete this procedure in a timely manner together with the release of fresh versions of the software. Developers not only add new features to their own utilities, but also increase the stability of interaction between the video adapter and the operating system, fixing "crashes" from applications, BSODs and other unpleasant errors.
