Installation media not found what to do. Required drive driver not found

Good day my dear readers!

Recently, I decided to install an operating system from scratch and ran into a problem that left me confused. For some reason, when installing Windows 7, it requires a driver.

First steps

If you encounter such a problem, do not despair, I will tell you what to do. First, let me explain why this could happen. Almost all users use distributions that they downloaded from the network and independently recorded on a USB flash drive or disk. No one guarantees that the download of files went without incident. Maybe some part did not download, and now Windows is asking for a driver for the optical drive. Plus, perhaps the disk image itself was broken or infected with a virus (you can check the image for viruses with the same Comodo Internet Security). You can't know that, right?

The first thing to do is to find another image with the distribution and write it again to removable media. It is also important to be sure that your storage device is fully functional. Otherwise, you can suffer for more than one hour. Try changing the USB port when connecting the flash drive. Maybe he loosened up and started to fail.

If this does not help, go to the next step.

Errors due to accessories

While trying to install an operating system from other distributions, pay attention to which device driver your computer requires. For example, if the system needs software for the hard drive, and every time, then it is quite possible that the problem is in the BIOS or in the hard drive connection.

If the OS requires a driver for the drive during installation, then it is quite possible that the BIOS settings have also gone astray. It happens that with careless handling, the SATA cable that powers the components from the motherboard shorts out. Because of this, the BIOS settings go astray, then they need to be adjusted.

In order to enter its settings, immediately after restarting the laptop, hold down one or more keys. Depending on the model of the laptop, the necessary buttons also vary. I will give a plate that will help you find these keys.

If everything is done correctly, then such a sign will appear.

Next, in the section with hard drives, find your device and change its priority to Disable or None. There are two types of hard drives - SATA and IDE. If you don’t know which model is yours, then check both tabs with HDD in BIOS. Reboot and do the reverse changes. Then restart the PC again and try installing the system again. If the PC again requires a driver for the hard drive, then the problem is hardware.

The same goes for your drive. Only in BIOS you disable not the hard drive, but the drive.

Solving hardware problems

If all that is described above does not help, then you will have to disassemble your car. By and large, there are no problems with this on laptops. Turned over, untwisted, collected. But I will describe everything step by step.

Initially, you turn off the PC, pull out the power cable and remove the battery. Necessarily! Otherwise, you can burn all the components, as there is a charge in the battery, and it can lead to a short circuit! You need to fix the problem with the drivers, and not buy a new computer.

Then, you need to unscrew all the bolts, but do not lose them. Remove the panel and body part. You will see almost the same picture as in the image below.

The hard drive itself is located here.

It must be disconnected and reconnected, but first remove the fasteners, otherwise they will interfere with this. Just slide it to the side, pull it out, just in case, blow out the contacts. It will be better if you rub them with a regular pen eraser. Then plug the device back in. Also install the mount. Just in case, you can watch the video on the network, how it's done

If the system required a driver for the drive, then you need to remove your drive accordingly. Then you collect everything, restart the PC and try to install the system again.

If everything went well, the system installed without errors, then the first thing to do is to install the drivers for Wi-Fi. You will need to go online and download a program for diagnosing your hard drive. For example, HDD Regenerator for Windows. Download you can here. Install the software and run a full scan. The program itself will tell you what to do and what condition your device is in.

If all indicators are normal, then you need to update the drivers for the HDD itself. Where to download them? Best of all on the manufacturer's website. If this is difficult, use the Driver Booster Free utility. You can download it from here. Run the scan, and she will do all the necessary actions herself. All that remains is to restart the laptop. Thus, the problem with driver errors is solved in the bud.

Always treat your laptop with care. do not drop or hit it, especially in the area of the hard disk. This is a fragile item that can be easily damaged. In it, the reading head is located at a distance of the thickness of a hair from the magnetic plates. If a scratch appears on them, you will have to buy a new device!

Conclusion

I have given you all the methods that will help you solve this kind of error problem. In most cases, it occurs precisely because of a pre-broken system image file or errors in the bootloader program. There is no such problem with licensed disks of operating systems. It can often be found in assembly distributions. I don't recommend installing these.

Homegrown programmers can poke anything in there, and you will have to suffer. Read user comments before downloading. If the distribution kit is broken, those who have already tried it will write about it.

On this I say goodbye to you, my dear readers. Share the link to the article with your friends on social networks and subscribe to blog updates! I wish you not to meet problems with your computers! See you in my articles!

Many PC users are used to reinstalling the operating system on their own, be it Windows 7, 8 or 10. Of course, all kinds of problems arise during the installation process from a USB flash drive or disk. Today we will talk about the problem "Device drivers not found".

Why does the error occur

Since the release of Windows 7, technology has moved ahead. Many modern computers and laptops have hardware for which there are no drivers in the standard assemblies of the installation image. Most often, the user sees a message about the lack of a driver for the hard drive and optical drive.

The most common cause of the problem is the presence of an interface USB 3.0. Since the image does not contain a driver for it, the system informs the user that the equipment cannot work stably, which means that the installation should continue.

Ways to solve the problem

So here are some simple troubleshooting tips.

As a general rule, the above tips will solve the “Device Drivers Not Found” issue in the vast majority of cases. But what if they didn't help?

Change the software for recording the image

Practice shows that the problem sometimes occurs when writing a flash drive with a certain program. Try another utility to create a boot disk. We can recommend you the following products:

Please note that we recommend downloading software from the developer's sites in order to avoid all sorts of problems and file corruption. This recommendation also applies to the driver for 3.0. To download it, visit the laptop or motherboard manufacturer's website.

Integrating drivers using special programs

If you have not previously created assemblies yourself, we recommend using the application vLite. This utility, among other things, allows you not only to integrate any drivers, but also to supplement the original Windows image with your own software. Of course, there are many analogues, so you can choose something else.

To create a bootable USB flash drive with the drivers we need, we need an OS image and a driver for the equipment. In the utility menu, you will need to specify the path to the image, and when choosing operations, the path to the unpacked driver. If we are talking about vLite, then after the appointment of events, a phased assembly of a bootable flash drive begins: first, the image is written, and then integration takes place. Upon completion of the procedure, we get the desired result. Here is a small Video instruction, which is in a foreign language, but if you are friends with a PC, you will figure it out.

There are more advanced ways to integrate drivers, but they are more suitable for the advanced user, such as using distribution kit higher OS versions.

Programmers are known to be lazy people, like most people. When a program is being developed, exceptions must be worked out in it, for example, a file is accidentally deleted / damaged, there is no access to the Internet, the mouse, keyboard, encoding, new devices, connectors, Friday the 13th ... whatever.

And for each case, programmers need to write a window or in some other way somehow notify the user that something went unplanned, and even make sure that the error is correctly understood by the user (But with an explanation to users, there are already problems programmers).

We all understand perfectly well that such an occupation is very tiring and you can make a mistake, you can simply not take into account the likelihood of several events coinciding, the emergence of new devices.

Here is a mistake, if you can call it a mistake, that the developers of the Windows 7 installation process made.

What did they do and what did they forget?

They made an incorrect message for the user about what happened wrong. Instead of writing a message stating that there is no necessary driver for the device from which you are trying to install the Windows operating system. Whoever wrote the driver error message thought that everyone would only install Windows 7 from an optical disc. But what about the ability to install from a USB flash drive? But what about those users who install from a card reader and other external devices? What is the result? And in the end, here's what:

Error not found optical drive driver when installing windows 7 from a flash drive

But, starting with windows 8.1, the developers corrected themselves and this window with an error was slightly redone.

required driver for optical disc drive not found in windows 8.1 and windows 10

But again, in what form should this driver be? And where to get it?

If during the installation of Windows 7 and most likely in later versions, you encounter such a message during installation, then here is what you need to analyze first:

  1. What device is the installation from? Options CD\DVD, Flash, Usb-HDD (External HDD via USB)
  2. If it is a USB device, what USB port is it plugged into. Possible options . or USB 3.0. (More on USB 2.0\3.0 connectors below.)

What is the difference between USB 2.0/3.0 ?

To distinguish between these two USB connectors, just look at the picture below. We focus on the fact that USB 3.0 is usually highlighted in blue, in contrast to white USB 2.0.

Visual difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0

If your laptop or computer does not have USB 2.0 connectors (and if available, it is better to insert the installation flash drive into them), and all of the available ones are USB 3.0 connectors, then you need to download the driver for the latter, since at the time of the release of the Windows 7 operating system, driver support in there was no installation image.

To download the correct driver, you first need the motherboard. After that, go to the drivers section on the manufacturer's official website, find your board there and download the USB 3.0 driver and you may need an ACHI driver. (hard drive controller).

Selecting the official website of the motherboard to download the necessary drivers

You can, of course, try to download a more recent version of Windows 7 with the latest updates, perhaps they added support for USB 3.0 drivers to the installation image itself.

There is a driver what to do?

If you managed to find the drivers, then you need to unpack them, write them to any USB flash drive, insert them into USB and specify them in the "Load driver" window through the browse button. But here, too, can not do without adventure. You will most likely be greeted with a message like this:

Error loading driver during windows installation

Then click "OK" and then click the "Repeat search" button.

Specifying a USB 3.0 driver when installing windows

What to do if all of the above does not help?

If the above does not help, then you can:

  1. Try to use another device for installation, try to burn to another disc (It is recommended to use DVD-R, CD-R and it is better not to use rewritable RW discs for installing Windows at all), burn installation files from the image at minimum speed.
  2. When installing from a USB flash drive, try inserting it into all USB connectors. It is very likely that one of them will work.
  3. Check the integrity of the installation image, download again, take another image.
  4. Use verified operating system images. It is recommended to use official images downloaded from official sources.
  5. Format the flash drive according to the recommendations of the Windows installation.
  6. Use another program to write the image to the drive (For example, Novicorp WinToFlash or )
  7. For those who install the operating system via a DVD or CD drive, cleaning the drive's laser helps in some cases.
  8. You can try Ahci/IDE modes
  9. If you have a laptop manufactured in 2016 and later and you are trying to install windows 7 on it, then most likely you will not be able to do this in more than one of the ways described above simply because it is optimized to work only windows 10 and most likely versions.

Hey! And again, I didn’t write anything on the blog for two days, I was busy. I bought myself a laptop, set everything up, transferred information from the old computer. Perhaps later, I will review the laptop, and today I will write about one problem that I had when installing Windows 7. An error that starts with the words “The required media driver was not found. This could be a driver for a DVD drive, a USB drive, or a hard drive.” I don't think there is any need to continue.

It wasn't a clean Windows 7 image, it was a build with only the bootloader changed. According to the author, the image of the operating system has not changed. Well, if we talk about the error itself, that everything is clear there, there are no drivers for the drive, USB, or hard drive, respectively, further installation of the operating system is not possible. The first time I encountered such an error, and like everyone else, I decided to slip the drivers from the disk from the laptop.

At first I thought it was because I have an SDD drive, but I ran other programs on this drive, and they all found my drive. In short, it also failed to pick up drivers from the disk that was bundled with the laptop. If the installer found them, they did not suit him. I began to sort through the options, because of which this error may appear. Moreover, Windows 7 was installed from another disk, but I needed to install this particular assembly. And then I thought that it could be a slightly scratched disk, on which I wrote Windows 7.

I didn’t have a new, blank disc, but a friend was supposed to come to me, whom I asked to buy a disc on the way. He brought the disk, I burned the image and run the re-installation and everything went off without a hitch, no errors, no matter how.

So all the problem was a bad dvd-rw disc, but when writing an image to which no warnings appeared, and when reading files, there were no errors other than “The required media driver was not found”.

So if you get the error “The required media driver was not found” during the installation of Windows 7, and more specifically, after choosing the language, then you need to check the disk from which you are trying to install the OS, and if possible, burn a new DVD. R disk. I advise you to take exactly DVD-R, not RW. And burn at low speed, but the second time I burned the image with the standard Windows 7 tool. You can read more about creating boot disks in the article.

If re-imaging the operating system did not solve the problem, then I have a few more tips:

  • If you install Windows 7 from a flash drive, then connect it to USB 2.0, because there are no drivers for USB 3.0 in a clean Windows 7 image. Or try to slip the driver for USB 3.0.
  • Try inserting a driver disk for your system into the drive and clicking on the “Browse” button, specify the path to the disk, perhaps Windows 7 really cannot find the driver it needs to install. The disk with the image of the operating system at the time of installing the drivers can be removed from the drive.

That's all, I hope you managed to solve this error. Good luck.
