Installing drivers - how to install drivers. How to install the NVIDIA graphics driver without unnecessary components

A guide to installing drivers on a computer or laptop after installing Windows XP, 7 or Vista.

So, you yourself installed one of the operating systems on your computer using the guides:

The next step is to install drivers for computer devices, because without these same drivers, the computer will not fully function. Without a video card driver - games will not work, without a sound card driver - of course there will be no sound, and without installing the network adapter driver, you will not be able to use the network and therefore will not be able to use the Internet. Therefore, installing drivers is an important point that should be paid no less attention than installing Windows.
First, you need to make sure on which devices Windows could not automatically find and install drivers. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" shortcut and click on "Properties".

In the window that opens, click "Device Manager".

In the next window, we will see a list of all devices on the computer. Devices marked with an exclamation mark - no drivers. After installing the drivers, you will need to view this list again, if there are no selected devices, then all the drivers are installed correctly.

Further, the installation of the drivers itself is directly.
In most cases, disks with the necessary drivers are included with the computer or laptop being sold, as a rule, these are at least two disks: video card drivers and a disk with drivers for all motherboard devices. Determine where which one can be by looking at the disks and finding on them the inscriptions VGA Driver - video card drivers and Motherboard Drivers - motherboard drivers. If these disks are missing, the procedure for installing drivers becomes more complicated, we will analyze this case in the next article. If you have disks, then you need to install the drivers available on these disks one by one. When autostarting from disks, click "Install" or "Install". Windows will automatically detect the presence of the necessary drivers on the disk and offer to install them.
After completing this procedure, we again study the "Device Manager". If no exclamation marks are found, then all drivers are installed. If they are still there, then some driver is missing. Firstly, the driver simply could not be installed and we will try to install it manually.

In the device manager, right-click on the device we need and select "Update driver".

In the next window, select "Search for drivers on this computer"

Next, click "Browse" and in the window that opens, select our optical drive. Click "OK" and "Next".

If the disk still has the driver we need, then the system will detect and install it, if there is no driver, then you will need to find it on the Internet, preferably on the device manufacturer's website. But for this, you first need to determine the exact model of the device that needs the driver. We will write about this in the next article - Determining devices and searching for drivers.

Hello, friends! Installing drivers... The question that worries the majority of the world's population after the successful installation of the Windows operating system. What is it - a driver. Definition... Driver - a program through which the operating system interacts with computer devices. Without the appropriate driver, the system does not know how to work with this device, and it may even not know at all what kind of device it is. Therefore, the process of installing drivers must be carefully considered, otherwise you will not get pleasure from the work.

In this article, you'll learn everything you need to know to find, select, and install drivers.

  1. Installing the video adapter driver (built-in or discrete)
  2. Installing the remaining drivers

Installing drivers from disk

We are looking for a file Setup.exe(or Autorun.exe or simply Run.exe can also be a file with the extension * .msi) and run it

Go to the tab Drivers . We see the button at the top ASUS InstAll, when you click on which will automatically install the drivers listed below. Let's take a closer look at this list and find that the trial version of the antivirus will also be automatically installed. Norton Internet Security 2011... It's easier to click install everything and if you are not satisfied with the installed antivirus, remove it.

If you want install drivers manually- I do this, select each driver separately and install following the instructions.

Confirm by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. Click on the found product

On the product page, go to the tab Support

Push Drivers & Utilities

From the dropdown list select the installed operating system

You can see the search result in the picture below. First of all we are interested in drivers for Chipset.

Click on the link Global and download.

Updating Intel Drivers

You have successfully installed the drivers, but sometimes (once a year for example) it would be nice to update them. Manufacturers are constantly improving the software for their products, expanding their functionality and releasing new driver versions. Therefore, it makes sense to install them.

You can always check for a new version of drivers on the website of the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard. But it is possible, and it is much more convenient, to take the drivers from the official Intel website.

If you know your video adapter parameters, then you can use Option 1.

If you do not know the parameters of your graphics, then I recommend using Option 2. Press Graphics Drivers

A window will appear with permission to run the application. Push Run

Then another similar request will be issued. We press the same Run

In my case, Smart Scan was unable to scan my computer. Tried it on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Possibly because my system does not have NVIDIA components

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card installed, then most likely you will be selected a fresh driver and given a link to download it.

If Smart Scan fails to scan your computer, then you will have to use Option 1. There you need to select Series and Product family. The operating system and language were automatically installed correctly for me. Push Search and Download Now

Install the downloaded driver.

Search and install driver by ID

Sometimes there are situations when there is no driver for the device. For example, drivers for the chipset of the ASUS X55U laptop

Or you have found any device without drivers

In the device manager it can be written simply - Unknown device.

In this case, you can use the service http://devid.drp.su/. There is also an instruction for finding a driver.

Conclusion

In this article, we figured out the concept driver installation in the Windows operating system. Two installation methods were provided:

  • using installation discs from devices that are usually supplied in the kit
  • using the search on the manufacturer's website

We figured out how to update drivers for devices from Intel, AMD and NVIDIA.

We examined in detail the search and installation of drivers by ID on drp.su. The main thing is to follow the installation sequence. First, drivers for the chipset after - whatever you want.

As I understand it, operating systems through the Update Center will slowly offer to install new driver versions. Therefore, you can install fresh drivers once, and then install all important and almost all additional updates.

I will be glad to questions in the comments. Thank you for sharing the article on social media. All the best!

Best regards, Anton Dyachenko

Good afternoon friends! More recently, we wrote about the best way. But what to do after setting up and installing the OS? Is everything working correctly for us? Today we will talk about installing drivers for Windows XP, 7. What is a driver and how to install it? Is it possible to do it yourself?

To some, these questions will seem simple, but not to those who spent hours surfing the Internet, because after reinstalling the OS, the web camera stopped working, or the disk with the drivers for the video card was lost. There are many situations, but together we will figure it out. We have prepared video tutorials for you, in which you will find answers to many questions related to the correct and quick installation of drivers.

Installing drivers on windows

First, I advise you to familiarize yourself with the drivers and their purpose. Where we also dedicated an interesting topic “alternative drivers”.

So, to put it simply, a driver is a microprogram that ensures the interaction of the operating system with devices. As a rule, each device has its own separate firmware. The list of devices can be viewed in the device manager: "Start" -> right-click on the "My Computer" icon -> in the menu that opens, select the "Control" item -> and then select "Device Manager" in the window on the left.

If you have opened the "Device Manager" and you have a similar picture, then everything is fine. All devices are working and have drivers installed. If the device has problems or does not have a driver installed, it is marked with an exclamation mark.

Such an exclamation mark indicates that the device is not working, you need to install or update the driver.

Installing drivers in automatic mode

With an automatic, everything is simple. We have a "* .exe" file that activates the installer. We launch it, and then follow the instructions of the installation program (ordinary users should click the "Next" button at all stages). The installer will itself check the driver for compatibility with the system and device and install it. After installation, just restart your computer. Everything is extremely simple.

Below we offer you a video clip, which describes in detail how and where you can download the driver and provides an example of automatic installation.

Installing drivers manually

Let's take a closer look at the manual installation method. Watch a detailed video instruction.

Manual installation is used if the driver is presented not as a "* .exe" file, but as a set of files with the extensions "* .inf", "* .sys" and "* .dll". Then you will have to follow these steps:

  • 1. Run driver updates for the device. (Right-click on the device name and select "update drivers" in the menu that appears).

  • 2. A window will open in which you must select the item "Search for drivers on this computer."

  • 3. We check the place where the driver search will be carried out, change it if necessary (to do this, click on the "Browse" button). We set a check mark next to the inscription "Including subfolders". Click the "Next" button.

4. At the next stage, the system will search for drivers in the specified location and, if a suitable driver is found, will install it.

It should be noted that the system searches for a file with the "* .inf" extension, which stores all information about the driver files, its compatibility with the OS, information on devices for which it can be installed, as well as the driver version and other technical information. Therefore, I advise you to immediately specify the directory in which the "* .inf" file is stored for the driver search.

Friends, as you can see, there is nothing difficult in installing drivers. We can do everything ourselves.

In my opinion, it's better to figure it out once and do it yourself. It's not that hard. And if anything, you have someone to ask. We are always happy to help our readers. Please write if you have any difficulties in installing drivers on windows.

Hello, friends!

Finding and installing drivers is a real headache for many novice PC users.

In this article, we will look at a few examples of where, and how, to look for drivers for your computer or laptop.

Most often, the problem with finding drivers occurs after reinstalling the Windows operating system. How to reinstall Windows using a disk, I wrote in this, installing Windows from a USB flash drive

How do I know for which devices I need to install drivers? To do this, right-click (pkm) on the computer icon → select the properties tab → Device Manager.

In this example, all drivers are installed correctly and work correctly. If one of the points shows question mark, which means for this device we need a driver search.

Usually, when buying a laptop or computer in assembly, a disc with the necessary drivers and utilities is attached to them. One disk with all drivers is supplied with the laptop, for the computer separately; usually these are drivers for a chipset, video card, sound card driver, lan..idr. Everything is simple here, install the disk and start the installation of the necessary drivers.

Before looking for device drivers for your system, I highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the five iron ones. If there is no driver disk, use method 2.

Downloading drivers from the manufacturer's official website

Let's take a look at the Asus K42f laptop as an example. Go to the official Asus website and search for this model. Select the tab → download and indicate your operating system (you can find out the system by going to → My Computer → (pkm) → Properties).

We are looking for all the necessary drivers. The most important drivers are Chipset, Sound, VGA, LAN (network), etc. If this method does not help, use the next, third method.

Driver search by device code.

Let's go back to the device manager. Computer → pcm → Properties. Let's say we don't have an audio controller driver .. see the picture.

Click on it pkm and select item → properties. In the open window, select the "Information" tab, and in the drop-down menu, select → " Equipment ID"(In Windows XP" Device Instance ID»).

An example of such code VEN_8086 & DEV_0046... Select it with the left key and copy it by pressing the key combination Ctrl + C... Now go to the site www.devid.info In the search field, insert ( Ctrl + V) copied code.
Click "OK", after which a list of drivers for this device will appear → download and install. It did not work → we use the 4th method.

To maintain the normal performance of the computer, it is necessary to update the drivers from time to time, but looking for and installing them manually is boring and time-consuming. And why? After all, this work is easy to automate. Today we are going to take a look at the ten best software for updating drivers for PCs and laptops of all brands and models.

Intel Driver Update Utility Installer is a proprietary utility for finding and updating drivers for any Intel products (processors, system logic, network devices, drives, server components, and others). Compatible with Windows XP, 7 and newer releases of this system.

The utility will automatically recognize the hardware of the PC on which it is installed. Checking for new versions of drivers on the Intel website is carried out by clicking the "Search" button, download and installation - at the user's request.

In addition, Intel Driver Update Utility Installer allows you to find and download drivers for any other Intel devices of your choice from the list ("Search manually" option).

The developers warn that the application installs only generic drivers that do not take into account the peculiarities of a particular brand of computer. Therefore, before launching it, you should visit the website of your PC or laptop manufacturer and check if there is anything suitable there.

AMD Driver Autodetect

AMD Driver Autodetect is a similar proprietary tool from AMD. Designed to keep the drivers of this brand video cards up to date (except for AMD FirePro).

After installation, the utility will keep track of the relevance of the video drivers and ensure their timely updates. It automatically detects the model of the video card installed on the PC, as well as the bit and version of the operating system. Once launched, it checks to see if there is a fresh driver on the AMD website. If there is, it informs about it and offers to download it. To start the installation, the user just needs to confirm his consent by clicking on the "Install" button.

AMD Driver Autodetect is also available exclusively for Windows.

NVIDIA Update

NVIDIA Update is a proprietary Windows utility for installing drivers on NVIDIA devices. Like AMD Driver Autodetect, it independently recognizes hardware models and checks for a fresh driver on the manufacturer's website. The decision about the installation remains with the user.

DriverPack Solution

DriverPack Solution is a lifesaver for service engineers, system administrators and those who earn extra money by providing services for installing Windows and programs. The application is a huge collection of drivers for devices of various brands and models, as well as a module for their installation.

DriverPack Solution is released in two versions - online and offline.

  • The online distribution is intended for use on a PC that has an Internet connection. Its difference is the small file size (285 Kb). After starting, the program scans Windows for installed drivers and the relevance of their versions, after which it connects to the database (on its own server) and performs automatic updates.
  • The offline distribution (size 10.2 Gb) is intended for installing drivers on a machine that is not connected to the Internet. In addition to the installer, its package includes a database of 960,000 drivers for Windows 7, XP, Vista, 8 (8.1) and 10, both in 32 bit and 64 bit. Once launched, the scanning module recognizes device types and installs drivers from its own offline database.

The online version of DriverPack Solution is convenient for constant home use. In addition to keeping track of the relevance of drivers, it allows the user to automatically install and update individual applications, remove software junk, view the list of hardware, information about the operating system and computer security.

The offline version is an emergency solution. Its task is to select not the best, but just the right driver to start the device. And further update it via the Internet.

DriverPack Solution and the proprietary utilities listed above are completely free.

Driver genius

Driver Genius is a universal driver management tool. The latest revision of the program is the sixteenth, optimized for Windows 8 and 10, but it can run on older systems as well.

In addition to updating the versions of installed drivers, Driver Genius is able to:

  • Create backup copies of drivers and save them as archives - regular and self-extracting, as well as in the form of an installer (exe). It is not necessary to use Driver Genius to restore from a backup.
  • Remove unused and faulty drivers.
  • Display computer hardware information.

The backup feature is a treasure trove for those who reinstall Windows frequently. However, the program itself is by no means a gift: the cost of one license is $ 29.95. You can use it for free for only 30 days.

Snappy Driver Installer

Snappy Driver Installer is an application created by one of the developers of DriverPack Solution and has a lot in common with the latter. Also available in two versions: SDI Lite and SDI Full.

  • The SDI Lite variant is a module for recognizing devices and searching for suitable drivers on the Internet. Its size is 3.6 Mb. It does not have its own base.
  • The SDI Full option is an installation module plus a base (31.6 Gb). Designed to install drivers regardless of the availability of Internet access.

Features of Snappy Driver Installer:

  • Works without installation (only portable version, you can run from a USB flash drive or DVD).

  • With an improved selection algorithm based on the "do no harm" principle.
  • Differs in high scanning speed.
  • Creates a system restore point before installing the driver.
  • Allows you to change the themes of the user choice.
  • Multilingual (there is a version in Russian, Ukrainian and other national languages).
  • Adapted for Windows 10.

Driver booster

iObit Driver Booster is a favorite of PC gamers. Released in Free editions - free, and Pro - paid. The subscription price for the latter is 590 rubles per year.

Driver Booster has one and only function - scanning the system for out-of-date drivers and installing updates in one click. And not simple updates, but (according to the developers) tuned to improve the performance of games.

- a free and very simple utility for installing and updating PC drivers based on Windows 7, 8 and 10. Its database includes only original, signed drivers from the official websites of hardware manufacturers.

The app is aimed at users with no experience. Support for the Russian language, a minimum of settings and one-button control practically exclude the possibility of confusing or breaking something. And if the new driver turns out to be unsuitable, DriverHub will remove it from the system and replace the old one.

All DriverHub features:

  • Search for missing, update outdated drivers and additional software. Automatic installation.
  • Simple and expert mode of operation. In expert mode, the user can select a driver from several available ones, in simple mode - the program itself selects the optimal version.
  • Daily replenishment of the database of drivers.
  • Storing download history.
  • Recovery - roll back drivers to previous versions.
  • Displays basic information about the computer.
  • Launch Windows system utilities from its interface.

DriverMax Free

DriverMax is a free, straightforward, English-language utility, the main purpose of which is to update drivers. Unlike other free applications, it has another useful option - creating a system rollback point and backing up installed drivers at the user's choice. And also restore from a backup.

After installing DriverMax insistently reminds that it would be nice to register on the site and buy a paid license with advanced functions, one of which is fully automatic operation. Annual usage starts at $ 10.39.

Driver magician

Driver Magician is the last hero of today's review. In the recent past, I had 2 versions, one of which was free. Today there is only a paid one with a 13-day trial period. License cost - $ 29.95.

There is no Russian language in Driver Magician, but it is not difficult to use it. The set of features is about the same as in Driver Genius:

  • Scanning and updating.
  • Creation of backup copies of drivers with the ability to restore both using and without using the program (the backup is saved in the form of a zip archive or an installer application).
  • Uninstalling the driver.
  • Backing up and restoring individual user folders - Internet Explorer Favorites, Desktop and Documents, as well as - the system registry (in one file).
  • Identification of devices unknown to the system.

In the trial period, the program is fully functional. Compatible with any version of Windows.

That, perhaps, is all. Choose what you like best and use it.
