Installing a driver for a Windows 7 network card. How to find out which driver is needed for a network card? Step-by-step instructions and recommendations

The Internet is a publicly accessible thing, but without preliminary settings and manipulations it is inaccessible. The fact is that in order to activate the Internet on a computer (no matter what operating system you are dealing with), you need to have the appropriate drivers, which, as a rule, are missing in Windows that has just been installed. Now we will talk about what drivers are and how to correctly install network drivers so that the Internet works on your PC.

A little theory

First, let's figure out why drivers for an Internet connection are so important?

A driver is a set of microprograms that provide communication between the hardware component of the computer (the parts inside the system unit) and the software (everything related to programs, applications, utilities, etc.).

For an active Internet connection, you must have network drivers, which must be “tailored” to your network card and with the help of which the computer will be able to recognize the appropriate commands and lines of network code for interaction between the PC and the global Internet.

How do I know which drivers to download?

Today there are a considerable number of network card developers who release specific network drivers for their products. Of course, as you might have guessed, drivers for one board will not be suitable for a board of another brand.

To do this, so as not to download everything and do something stupid, let's figure out how to find out what network card is installed on your computer?

Method 1

    1. Click on My computer right click and select Properties.
    2. In the list on the left, click on device Manager.

    1. Find the tab Network adapters and open it.

    1. After expanding this tab, you will see the name of the network card you are using.

Method 2

    1. Press the key combination Win+R on keyboard.

    1. A line will open in front of you Execute, in which you need to enter the following command: cmd. Click OK.

    1. In the command line that opens, enter the following: ipconfig/all. Click Enter.

    1. Find the item Description. This will be the name of your network card.

Downloading the necessary drivers on the Internet

Now that you know the name of the network card, you can begin installing drivers. To do this, enter this name in a search engine, then go to the official website of the developer of this board. On this site you can get the latest version of network drivers.

  • Intel
  • Realtek
  • Marvell

Hello.

When there are problems with the network (more precisely, its inaccessibility), very often the cause is one detail: there are no drivers for the network card (which means it simply does not work!).

If you open the task manager (which is recommended in almost every manual)- then you can see, most often, not a network card, opposite which the yellow icon will be lit, but some kind of Ethernet controller (or network controller, or Network controller, etc.). As follows from the above, an Ethernet controller refers to a network card (I won’t dwell on this further in the article).

In this article I will tell you what to do with this error, how to determine the model of your network card and find drivers for it. So, let's start analyzing the “flights”...

Note!

Perhaps you do not have access to the network for a completely different reason (not due to the lack of drivers on the Ethernet controller). Therefore, I recommend checking this point again in the device manager. For those who don't know how to open it, I'll give a couple of examples below.

How to enter Device Manager

Method 1

Method 2

In Windows 7: in the START menu you need to find the line to execute and enter the command devmgmt.msc.

In Windows 8, 10: press the combination of the Win and R buttons, enter devmgmt.msc in the line that opens, press Enter (screen below).

Examples of errors that cause

When you go to Device Manager, look at the " Other devices". This is where all devices for which drivers are not installed will be displayed. (or if there are drivers, but there are problems with them).

Several examples of displaying a similar problem in different versions of Windows are presented below.

This occurs most often in the following cases:

  1. After reinstalling Windows. This is the most common reason. The fact is that by formatting the disk and installing a new Windows, the drivers that were in the “old” system will be deleted, but they are not yet in the new one (you need to install them again). This is where the fun begins: the disk from the PC (network card), it turns out, was lost a long time ago, and it’s impossible to download the driver on the Internet, since there is no network due to the lack of a driver (I apologize for the tautology, but this is such a vicious circle). It should be noted that during installation, new versions of Windows (7, 8, 10) find and install universal drivers for most equipment (rarely is something left without a driver).
  2. Installing new drivers. For example, old drivers were removed and new ones were installed incorrectly - please receive a similar error.
  3. Installing network applications. Various applications for working with the network (for example, if they were incorrectly uninstalled, installed, etc.) can create similar problems.
  4. Virus attack. Viruses, in general, can do anything :). No comments here. I recommend this article:

If everything is ok with the drivers...

Pay attention to this moment. Each network adapter in your PC (laptop) has its own driver installed. For example, on a typical laptop, there are usually two adapters: Wi-Fi and Ethernet (see screenshot below):

  1. Dell Wireless 1705... - this is the Wi-Fi adapter;
  2. Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller is just a network controller (Ethernet-Controller as it is called).

HOW TO RESTORE THE NETWORK / FIND A DRIVER FOR THE NETWORK CARD

Important point. If the Internet does not work on your computer (due to the fact that there is no driver), then you cannot do it without the help of a neighbor or friend. Although, in some cases, you can get by with your phone, for example, by downloading the necessary driver for it and then transferring it to your PC. Or, as another option, just share the Internet from it if, for example, you have a Wi-Fi driver:

Option No. 1: manual...

This option has the following advantages:

  • no need to install any additional utilities;
  • download only the driver you need (i.e. there is no point in downloading gigabytes of unnecessary information);
  • you can find a driver even for the rarest equipment, when special. programs don't help.

True, there are also disadvantages: you have to spend some time searching...

To download and install the driver for any Ethernet controller, you first need determine exactly its model (well, Windows OS - I think there will be no problems with this. If anything, open “my computer” and right-click anywhere, then go to properties - all the information about the OS will be there).

One of the most reliable ways to determine a specific equipment model is to use special identifiers VID and PID. Every equipment has them:

  1. VID is the manufacturer's identifier;
  2. PID is the product identifier, i.e. indicates a specific device model (usually).

That is, to download a driver for a device, for example, a network card, you need to find out the VID and PID of this device.

To find out VID and PID - you need to open it first device Manager. Next, find the equipment with a yellow exclamation mark (or the one for which you are looking for a driver). Then open its properties (screen below).

Next, you need to open the “details” tab and select “Equipment ID” in the properties. Below you will see a list of values - this is what we were looking for. This line needs to be copied by right-clicking on it and selecting the appropriate one from the menu (see screenshot below). Actually, using this line you can search for a driver!

Then you paste this line into a search engine (for example, Google) and find the required drivers on numerous sites.

As an example, I’ll give a couple of addresses (you can also directly search for them):

Option 2: using special. programs

Most programs for automatically updating drivers have one urgent need: the PC where they work must have access to the Internet (and preferably fast one). Naturally, in this case, it makes no sense to recommend such programs for installation on a computer...

But there are some programs that can work autonomously (that is, they already contain all the most common universal drivers that can be installed on a PC).

  1. 3DPNET. A very small program (you can even download it via the Internet on your phone), which is designed specifically for updating and installing drivers for network controllers. Can work without access to the Internet. In general, it couldn’t come at a better time in our case;
  2. Driver Pack Solutions. This program is distributed in 2 versions: the first is a small utility that requires access to the Internet (I don’t consider it), the second is an ISO image with a huge set of drivers (there is everything for everything - you can update drivers for all equipment installed on your computer). The only problem: this ISO image is about 10 GB. Therefore, you need to download it in advance, for example, onto a flash drive, and then run it on a PC where there is no driver.

These programs and others can be found in this article :

3DP NET - saving the network card and the Internet :)…

That, in fact, is the whole solution to the problem in this case. As you can see from the article, in many cases you can even do it on your own. In general, I recommend downloading and saving somewhere on a flash drive drivers for all the equipment you have (as long as everything works). And in the event of any failure, you can quickly and easily restore everything without hassle (even if you reinstall Windows).

That's all for me. If there are any additions, thank you in advance. Good luck!

One of the problems that a user may encounter after reinstalling Windows is the lack of a driver for the network adapter (network driver) for a wired or wireless network.

And if you don’t have a driver disk at hand, you will have to look for the driver and download it using another device that has Internet access.

In this article we will look at an algorithm that will allow you to avoid troubles that may arise after installing the OS.

What is a driver? This is a program through which the computer operating system interacts with the device hardware (motherboard, video card, network card, printer, scanner, MFP, etc.).

Drivers are developed by companies that produce computer components and peripherals that interact with PCs (for example, office equipment).

Often, modern operating systems (including Windows 7) already have a certain set of drivers that allow you to work with the main components of your computer; we will consider the case when such programs are missing.

The peculiarity of the situation when the network driver is not installed is that it is not possible to use programs to automatically install drivers, since they all use an Internet connection for their work, and since the network driver is not installed, there is no access to the Internet.

The user usually encounters installing network adapter drivers in the following cases:

1. After purchasing a new computer and not having an OS installed on it.

2. After installing the operating system.

3. After a network adapter driver failure.

To solve the problems that arise in the first case, you need to look for the disks that come with your computer. The driver disk for the motherboard contains what we need.

Over the past few years, a trend has clearly emerged that involves the abandonment of the use of optical disc drives not only among manufacturers of laptops, but also desktop PCs.

Users who independently choose the components from which their computer will be assembled also refuse to install a DVD drive.

Advice! We recommend downloading all the necessary drivers (not just the network one) to a separate directory on your hard drive and/or flash drive. This will avoid situations where, after installing the operating system, you will need to look for a drive or PC (tablet, phone) to download drivers from disk or the Internet.

Installing the network driver

The driver installation procedure can be divided into 2 stages: hardware identification and driver installation.

In order to identify manufacturers and specific models of equipment, a coding system for models and brands of computer components was developed.

Typically, the code for a network adapter has the following form: PCI/VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx&SUBSYS_xxxxxx, where VEN_xxxx is the equipment manufacturer identifier (Vendor ID), DEV_xxxx is the equipment model code (Device ID).

Step 1. Equipment identification

In order to find out the code, click Start, enter “Device Manager” in the search field and go to the corresponding menu.

Next, you need to find the “Network adapters” or “Other devices” submenu and right-click on one of the submenu items, for example, in our case it will be “Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller”.

Step 2. Install/update the network adapter driver

After we have found out the equipment identifier, we should copy its name (right-click - copy) and enter it into the browser search field. After downloading the necessary program, you can begin installing it.

Similar actions will occur if you update the network driver.

To install/update the network adapter driver, you need to go to “Device Manager” as described earlier. Select the required item and in the context menu, which is accessible by right-clicking, select “Update drivers...”.

Select “Search for drivers on this computer.”

We go to the directory into which we recently downloaded everything we need, using the “Browse” button, click “Next” and wait for the driver installation process to complete.

There is also an opinion that if you update (reinstall) a network driver, you must first remove the old one, after which you should install a new one.

Important! To remove an already installed driver, you need to go to “Device Manager”, select the network adapter, right-click and select “Delete” in the context menu. After this, the system will warn you that the device driver will be removed, we agree by clicking “OK”.

Driver Updater from Carambis

If you have a need to search for universal programs that can function on different operating systems: I mean utilities for creating group policies, programs for cleaning the system from viruses and, of course, software for working with OS drivers - the best solution would be to use the Carambis program Driver Updater.

Thanks to Driver Updater, you can not only get the software you need, but also save big. After all, one subscription purchase allows you to connect two computers at once.

As for the work process, the utility copes well with its tasks. Now you no longer need to fix errors in connected hardware components on each computer.

Setting up automatic search and installation of updates now automatically updates all devices.

But, if you need to speed up your computer, we recommend using another utility from the same manufacturer - Carambis Cleaner.

Its capabilities:

  • Comprehensive optimization of the operating system;
  • The ability to delete components and temporary files that are no longer used and are not needed for the operation of the OS;
  • Delete all OS error reports;
  • Quick registry cleaning;
  • Ability to delete files that the user selects;
  • Uninstall installed programs in the main program window with a few clicks.

Remember, files that have been deleted by the program cannot be restored (unlike the usual deletion procedure using built-in OS functions). Run diagnostics on your computer several times a month to keep your system in good working order.

How to Install Network Adapter Driver Without Internet Access

Driver for network adapter - detailed installation instructions

Internet access requires a properly functioning network card. When installing Windows 7, a standard driver package is also installed, the list of which includes the network one. But sometimes problems arise - either a conflict between drivers and components, or an old version, or a lack of Internet connection. We will tell you how to install a network driver on Windows 7 (including without the Internet), how to update drivers, and what options there are to configure the network card.

Why configure the network card in Windows 7? If drivers are installed incorrectly, the following problems may occur:

  1. No Internet connection. Windows simply won't see the hardware.
  2. Connection failures. At the most inconvenient moment, the network may disappear. Such failures can occur at different intervals, thereby irritating the PC owner with poor performance.

How to install network hardware drivers on Windows 7

This method is used during normal Internet operation - when Windows is able to connect to the World Wide Web. The first question that arises is where to download and how to install the software for the network adapter?

There are two options:

  • use special software (Driver Pack);
  • or find out the card manufacturer and select software specifically for it.

Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Where can I download network drivers for Windows 7? We recommend downloading software only from trusted sources. Third-party resources may introduce malicious software into the package contents.

The interface in Driver Pack is intuitive; the necessary software is searched automatically from a large database. The program will do everything for you - you just need to launch it and make a couple of clicks. The downside is the weight of the utility (more than 10 GB). When you load the driver knowing the manufacturer of the network card, you save disk space. But the disadvantage of this method is the long search for the necessary software. First we'll look at a quick installation using the Driver Pack. And finally, we’ll tell you about a way to find information: what network card you have.

Installing drivers using the Driver Pack utility

“DPS” is a driver package that has proven itself to be reliable, large and easy to install. It includes software for the network, processor, video card, etc. This is the reason why the utility has a significant weight (about 9-11 GB). The developers regularly update the database, so you can safely download the latest edition of the package.

Driver for network adapter installation instructions

Step 1. Download the Driver Pack by following the link https://drp.su/ru.

Step 2. Let's launch the program.

Step 3. The utility automatically finds uninstalled or outdated drivers and offers to install them. When you select the “Set up your computer automatically” option, additional software will be installed along with the drivers, which is visible on the right side of the window.

Step 4. To avoid installing unnecessary things, find the “Expert Mode” option at the bottom of the window and click on it.

Step 5. We tick the software that needs to be installed and press the green button (see screenshot). Done - the driver for the Windows 7 network card has been installed.

If you want to know in more detail, you can read an article about it on our portal.

We install Internet software ourselves

First of all, let's find information about the board itself. Knowing the device model, finding suitable software becomes much easier.

How to find out what kind of network cards are installed in the system?

Step 1. Open "Device Manager".

Step 2. We are looking for an item in the catalog of components (see photo below).

Step 3. Expand the category by clicking on the “+” icon. We see the name of our hardware.

Downloading and installing the driver

Now that we know the manufacturer of the network card, we can begin to manually search for software.

Step 1. We enter the name of the model into the search engine.

Step 4. We choose exactly the program that suits your operating system. The download begins.

Step 5. Open the downloaded exe file.

Step 6. Follow the installer's instructions. Click “Next”.

Step 7 Then we accept the license terms and wait for the software to install on the computer.

How to install a network adapter driver without Internet access

Usually we download software like this: open Google and type in the name of the software. But when there is no connection to the Network, the most interesting thing begins - there is no driver, but you need to download it from somewhere. And to download it, you need a network. You can endlessly wander around this circle. But the problem can be easily solved if you have a good friend or a smartphone. The instructions describe steps to resolve problems with the connection and the global web if Windows 7 does not see the network adapter.

Our task is to use the 3DP Chip program. Alternatively, you can download it to your smartphone, then connect it to your computer via a USB cable and transfer it to your desktop. Or ask a friend to download the program onto a flash drive, from which you can then run the utility on your own PC.

Step 1. Get the program and copy its file to the problem computer. Please note that the developer of the utility has one official website.

Step 2. Launch 3DP Chip.

The software analyzes the PC components and produces a list of software required for installation. If your device is not in the database, the program installs universal software suitable for a wide range of cards.

How to update the network driver on Windows 7. Updating the driver using Windows

Windows has a number of standard programs designed to solve problems. Usually their functionality is enough to solve ordinary problems. The “Device Manager” will come in handy. This application is capable of customizing the operation of all PC components.

Updating the network card driver in the Windows operating system

Step 1. Open “Dispatcher” (see screenshot).

Step 2. A window opens with a list of all the hardware built into our computer. Find the line “Network devices” in the list. If there are several of them, a list is formed that opens by clicking the “+” button located next to the line.

Step 3. Open the network equipment category. Click on the component that requires drivers. Next, select the line “Update drivers”.

Step 4. Windows will offer two options:

  • download a new version via the Internet (the system itself finds the appropriate version and installs the software instantly);
  • or find the driver files on the hard drive (flash drive or laser drive inserted into the PC). Here's how to install drivers on Windows 7 automatically in just 5 minutes.

Select the first option with automatic updating. The OS will start searching for software on the Internet and after 5-6 minutes will download all released versions. After completing the operation, we recommend restarting your computer.

Manually updating drivers

This algorithm repeats steps 1-3 from the previous instructions. But instead of automatic updating, we choose the manual method. To do this, you need to download the drivers yourself.

Step 1. We choose the manual method.

Step 2. Click on the “Browse” button - an explorer opens, through which you need to specify the path to the folder in which the drivers are located.

Step 3. Either the system will display a message that the driver does not need to be updated, or the installation will begin. All you have to do is wait until Windows delivers updates. After completing the settings, reboot the system.
