Top ad blockers for Yandex browser on Android and Windows: plugins, standard tools. Blocking ads by internal OS resources

However, not all pop-ups are annoying ads. Some of them are necessary for you to use certain websites. For example, when paying for services / goods online, these pop-ups are needed to complete certain purchases. Or pop-up messages from various messengers or mail that you configured in a similar way. Therefore, it is not worth getting rid of all of all pop-ups indiscriminately.

However, if the pop-up window appears suddenly for no reason, it can be not only annoying, but also dangerous. Because certaintypes of advertising can be harmful and that will not only clog your browser with endless ads, but can also infect your entire device! So watch carefully where you click..

Fortunately, there is such a useful thing as ad blockers. These are special browser extensions that filter out intrusive ads, ideally leaving you with only functional and useful pop-ups. But not all ad blockers perform equally well.

Here's our comparative roundup of the best and worst ad blockers for web browsers.

1. Ad blocker Adblock

  1. It is definitely the # 1 ad blocker for web browsers. Not only does AdBlock show useful pop-ups, but it also perfectly blocks other ads, including particularly annoying YouTube ads. What we really love about AdBlock is how it can be customized. ... You will be able to customize filters yourself. That is, enable individual ad blocking so that the ads you need are shown, as well as make a list of allowed advertising sources.

    This app is available as an extension for most web browsers, including Safari, and is easy to install. With a variety of features, this free app has earned the top spot on our list of the best

  1. Ad blockerOpera

    While Opera is far from the most popular web browser, harder than just blocking regular pop-ups. One of the advantages of this web browser is that it has a built-in VPN module, which is very good for protecting users' data.

    But also as simple ad blockerOpera does an excellent job of effectively blocking ads on the page and preventing websites from tracking your cookies.

    V ad blocker Opera you can configure which pop-ups will be blocked and which will be shown. Due to the fact that this browser has other levels of cybersecurity (for example, you can change your IP address and browse websites anonymously), it made our list.

  1. Firefox

    Compared to others ad blockers functionality here may be limited, but at the same time it is a very reliable built-in extension.

    Firefox is good at blocking pop-ups, tracking your cookies, and in addition, here you can configure the list of allowed sources - exclusions.

    If you do not want to install an additional ad blocker, we advise you to browse the web using the Firefox web browser. You can also improve your security by choosing one of these 20 addons for Firefox.

  1. Built-in ad blockerGoogle chrome

    In fourth place on our list is ad blockerChrome... Really, popular Google's simple and easy-to-use web browser has pretty good anti-pop-up protection built-in.

    It blocks most of the useless ads and skips functional pop-ups. Wherein ad blockerChrome quite flexible in customization. You can prevent websites from tracking your cookies while allowing some sites to show you notifications when needed.

    But due to the fact In order to show you targeted ads, we are not sure that unwanted ads will always be blocked. 5.

5. Ad blockerAdfender

First, we like that this ad blocker allows ... Secondly, AdFender is good at blocking video ads (even on Youtube!), Other types of pop-up ads, and allows flexible adjustment of work parameters.

Additional benefits - you can also view statistics on your web browser, which cannot be done in others ad blockers.

The disadvantage is that you have to pay for all this. The free trial period for AdFender is very short and then you need to renew your license every year. It is because of this, and also because of the fact that AdFender is only available for Windows, that it ended up at the bottom of our list.

6. Ad blockerMicrosoft Edge

Despite being one of the least popular web browsers, Microsoft Edge's ad blocker impressed us. Edge blocks all malicious ads and skips the pop-ups you want.

However, unlike the built-in Firefox extension, you cannot change the settings, so you will not be able to compile a list of allowed sources. Users also note that Edge often blocks functional pop-ups that websites need to work.

  1. Ad blockerAdblock plus

    Adblock Plus (not to be confused with AdBlock) is a simple ad blocking extension that has a couple of additional useful features.

    You can allow certain websites to show some pop-ups, create a whitelist of advertising sources, and create your own filter.

    We were not impressed with the performance of this ad blocker because it does not filter all ads, but nevertheless, this extension can be called acceptable. If you are satisfied with the option when you just see a minimum of ads, then Adblock Plus is the right option.

  1. Ad blockeruBlock

    uBlock is a great choice for anyone looking for a simple ad blocker. At the same time, if you need advanced functionality with the ability to customize, then it is better to look for something else.

    Since you will not be able to adjust the filter's accuracy, you will not be able to control what this application will block. On the other hand, you can create a list of allowed sources here. However, we were alarmed by the fact that some part of the data is saved in the log file.

    The advantage of this blocker is that it is free and requires very little memory.

  1. Ad blockerSmart Popup Blocker

    Despite the declared functions (for example, a list of allowed advertising sources, managing cookies, deleting cookies), this extension is not easy to install in a browser. We're also wondering why is it blocking Windows Messenger pop-up notifications ?!

You can find many ad blockers on the internet, but in order to make the right choice, you better know which one really works well. We hope that our review will help you to work comfortably online without being distracted by useless and annoying ads.

Advertising companies have long been using Internet resources for their own purposes. Sometimes the information offered to us from the monitors is useful and interesting. But more often than not, Internet traffic is spent on downloading unnecessary banners and advertising links. And if harmless text ads or a static image are perceived calmly enough, then annoying banners offering viewing pornography or recommending to get rich in one click are insanely annoying. Unwanted commercials are especially unpleasant when a child has access to a computer, who does not yet fully understand the danger behind such banners.

What are pop-ups

Pop-ups are a very annoying type of advertising that forcibly annoys the eyes with absolutely unnecessary information. Inexperienced users often click on the cross, which, in theory, should have removed this muck from the screen. But everything happens exactly the opposite: the user follows the very link that he was trying to avoid. The real cross that covers the banner can be invisible or appear in a minute. Everything is done to ensure that the user follows the link, because it is the frequency of clicks that determines the success and effectiveness of an advertising banner. Such deception allows you to promote sites and products in a very annoying way.

In order for the protection against advertising to be effective, users use quite a few programs and scripts that more or less successfully block unwanted banners and stop viral links. The most effective methods for blocking unwanted ads are described below.

General purpose ad blockers

Ad Muncher is used as the most effective ad protection today. Works with all popular browsers. When immersed in the Internet environment, the program prevents pop-ups, banners and other unwanted advertisements on websites. The most popular features that cause Ad Muncher to be installed are:

Prohibition of the appearance on monitors of any kind of advertising images, links and pop-ups;

Significant acceleration of work in Internet applications, instant loading of sites by blocking external elements, which, as a rule, are of a temporary advertising nature;

Blocking unnecessary changes in selected sites, namely - elimination of hidden elements, detection and blocking of malicious scripts, spyware and other unwanted developments of "geniuses" of Internet advertising;

Constantly updated filtering system, in the updating of which users who have already installed Ad Muncher are directly involved.

More details about this product can be found on the manufacturer's website.

Adguard is a persistent anti-banner that is very popular among users. This effective ad protection program works with all popular browsers. Automatically detects and removes them from monitors. This software product was developed on the principle of an anti-virus program, therefore it requires daily updates. Launches immediately when the computer is turned on. This pop-up ad protection successfully blocks phishing attacks that steal sensitive data, social media and email passwords. It complements anti-virus utilities very well. This ad protection works well even on weak computers.

Anti-banner ads for Mozilla Firefox

One of the most popular programs among users of the famous browser with a fox is called NoScript. This extension was invented by the Firefox developers. It blocks execution of Java Flash Javascript and other potentially threatening components of HTML pages. The user can automatically in the settings allow the use of the script on a particular page. Thus, the user creates "white lists" of those pages on which pop-up ads are allowed. Another very useful feature of NoScript is to protect your computer from XSS attacks. This in-browser ad protection is one of the most popular Firefox extensions.

Another firefox program that blocks pop-ups is called Adblock Plus. The program is configured by the user independently. When an unwanted banner appears, the user just needs to right-click on it, select the Adblock Plus option, and the advertisement will disappear from the computer monitor forever. You can also fill in the parts of the Internet address of unwanted advertising with asterisks - then any banner leading to this site is automatically blocked. The first time you use Adblock Plus, you can add a filter list subscription, and most of the ad junk will never appear on your monitor.

The official site offers to install the program for free, which is regularly updated by the developers of Mozilla Firefox.

Anti-banner ads for Opera

This is a free program created by the developers of Opera. Its main functions are as follows:

Three ways in which protection against pop-up ads on various sites is carried out, at the user's choice;

The ability to create your own filters;

Increasing the speed of downloading files on some file hosting services;

The use of an anti-banner reduces traffic usage and speeds up the loading of the required pages and databases.

Internet Explorer ad blockers

Pop-up Blocker Free was developed for Windows XP and later. The advantages of this plugin are that you can set up protection against ads using 4 operating modes: absolute blocking of pop-up banners, removal of ads in the list, prohibition of clicking on a link with keywords in the address of an advertising site, the allowed number of open banners in one period of time ... Pop-up Blocker blocks products such as Background sounds, Inline videos, Flash Ads, JAVA Applets. The program is supplemented with all modern means of protecting confidential data, saving the specified proxy server settings and other useful functions.

Free PopUp Blocker by CleanMyPC is a free popup blocker. After installation, the program shortcut appears on the toolbar of the Internet Explorer browser, and then this plug-in automatically blocks pop-up ads and unnecessary ads to the user.

Ad blockers for the Google Chrome family of browsers

Google Toolbar, among other tools of interest to the user, also contains the function of blocking unnecessary sites and banners. A significant drawback of this protection method is that, together with the blocker, the user has to install a whole list of various options that may not be needed to work in this browser. But if configured correctly, Google Toolbar performs excellent browser protection functions.

Blocking ads by internal OS resources

Advanced users can block banners and viral ads by configuring Windows OS. Protecting your computer from advertising is possible with the appropriate registry settings, as well as when managing this OS. Detailed information on how to protect your browser by using the internal resources of Windows can be seen on the official user support site. Windows developers give detailed instructions on how to set up ad protection.

System security checks

After selecting and installing a program that protects your browser from pop-up windows, you should restart your computer. A detailed check of the effectiveness of anti-advertising products can be checked on software testing sites. If the protection against advertising has proved to be effective, then you can be sure that pop-ups and annoying information will no longer be annoying, and now nothing can prevent the user from relaxing and working on the Internet.

Below is a list of the best free ad blockers. But none of them is perfect, so it is most efficient to use multiple solutions at once.

Types of ads

When choosing the best ad blockers, we adhered to the following criteria:

  • Completely free;
  • Good user ratings;
  • No need to register an account to use;
  • Recently updated (in the last 12 months);
  • Implementation as a plug-in for at least one browser or operating system;
  • Blocks "display ads" (pop-ups, banners, videos, static images, wallpapers, text ads);
  • Blocks ads in videos (for example, on YouTube).

To test blockers, we used several sites with different types of advertisements. These include Forbes.com, Fark.com, YouTube, and OrlandoSentinel.com.
On Orlando Sentinel, we found aggressive ad formats that most ad blockers can't block. In fact, only a few of them effectively blocked all ads shown on the Orlando Sentinel.

We've tested and rated each of these free tools against the specified criteria. In addition, the ad blockers listed below, with the exception of Stend Fair Adblocker, are open source software.

Best ad blockers - browser plugins and apps

The best ad blocking option is to install a specialized plugin or use a browser with a built-in ad blocker. They interact with websites much more accurately than stand-alone programs that run in the background on your computer.

Stands Fair AdBlocker
It is only available for the Google Chrome browser. With this plugin it is possible to block all types of ads. But it is only available as an add-on for the Google Chrome browser.
Stands Fair AdBlocker is not designed to block ad units, although it can be used for that as well. The development company believes in fair advertising and encourages users to whitelist ads displayed on sites.

Luckily, Stands does a great job at blocking all other ads. Including the aggressive ad formats shown on Orlando Sentinel. Plus display ads, autoplay videos, and YouTube ads.

Rating: 7/7

Main advantages: Block ads on Facebook and Google Search.

Works with: Google Chrome

Adbuard adblock
AdGuard AdBlock was able to block all types of ads. But the biggest drawback of this ad blocker is that all features are only available in the premium version. In this case, the difference between the versions of the blocker is explained only in the help documentation.

Many users rated AdBuard AdBlock positively. It has been downloaded over 4 million times and received high ratings.
When we tested, he turned out to be one of the ad blockers who not only effectively blocked ads displayed on the Orlando Sentinel website, but also did not skip ad frames with the word “advertisement”.

Rating: 7/7

Main advantages: Ability to transfer the whitelist to the blacklist.

Works with: Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Microsoft Edge, Yandex Browser.

Opera Browser
One of the fastest and most productive browsers. He was one of the first to offer his users a built-in ad blocker.

After enabling adblocker in settings, it blocks almost every ad you come across. But the browser was unable to block interstitial ads on Forbes (the quote blocks that appear in front of the articles). Most of the other ad units have been blocked.
In addition, the Opera adblocker successfully blocked advertisements displayed on Orlando Sentinel.

Rating: 7/7

Main advantages: Built in popular browser, easy whitelisting.

Works: with Opera.

Adblock plus
It is the most popular ad blocking software with over 10 million downloads in the Google Chrome browser alone. It is a free and open source project. Adblock Plus is the basis for many other free ad blockers.

By default, Adblock Plus is designed to block only those advertisements that are deemed intrusive or potentially harmful. Therefore, it requires additional configuration.
If you want to block most of the ads (including automatic video playback), you need to disable the "Allow some non-intrusive ads" option in the settings. Even so, ABP does not block everything.

Adblock Plus was one of the tools that failed to do anything with the ads shown on the Orlando Sentinel. Unfortunately, even the "lock items" feature was unable to help. ABP is good and popular, but far from perfect.

Rating: 6.5 / 7

Main advantages: the presence of an anti-blocking filter.

Works with: Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, Yandex Browser, iOS, Android.

uBlock AdBlocker Plus
Unlike other tools, uBlock AdBlocker Plus is easy to use. However, there are some things the developer could do better. For example, a blocker site is just a page with the name of the plugin and no additional information.

Block AdBlocker Plus effectively blocks most of the ads, but still skips some of them. For example, it did not block the automatic playback of advertisements on one of the sites.

When some advertisements were loading, I used the element blocking feature to block specific ads on the web page. For example, on the Orlando Sentinel, element locking worked great. And its application did not lead to page reloads (as was the case with other ad blockers).

Rating: 6.5 / 7

Main advantages: easy to use, the ability to block elements.

Works with: Google Chrome.

uBlock Plus Adblocker
The biggest drawback of this plugin is that it has an awkward interface. There are several settings that are activated using switches. But most of the work involves digging into the parameters. However, uBlock Plus Adblocker effectively blocked all advertisements, including autoplay videos.

The main advantage of the plugin is the presence of a large library of third-party filters. The tool also includes advanced custom settings that allow you to create your own content filters.
During testing, uBlock Plus Adblocker blocked most of the advertisements. But I couldn't do anything with the banner ads shown on the Orlando Sentinel.

Rating: 6.5 / 7

Main advantages: filters elements and unsafe ads.

Works with: Google Chrome.

AdBlocker Genesis Plus
If you've used uBlock Origin or AdBlock Plus, this plugin will work for you. AdBlocker Genesis Plus is a fork of other popular plugins. It uses the same basic source code but implements many of its own functionality.

Its user interface is slightly different, but the ad blocking functionality is the same. The plugin developer claims to have deliberately removed the tracking code from the uBlock / AdBlock Plus source code to ensure more privacy.

This ad blocker has a high rating (4.34 out of 5) based on over 100,000 ratings. But I found that Genesis Plus does not block all advertisements. On one site, this plugin blocked simple display ads (Fark.com), but was unable to block a display ad on Orlando Sentinel.

Rating: 6/7

Main advantages: no tracking code, simple whitelist button, item blocking button.

Works with: Google Chrome.

Adblock Ultimate
Open source project. The tool allows you to fight most advertisements. In testing, it was able to block YouTube ads and most display ads on websites. This ad blocker has high ratings: 4.84 out of 5 from Google Chrome users and over 600,000 installations.

The plugin was unable to handle the ads shown on the Orlando Sentinel. He did not block ads broadcast on this site at all. But for those who only need to cut out most of the ads, this is a good option. Unfortunately the plugin hasn't been updated in over a year. Because of this, his grade was lowered.

Rating: 6/7

Main advantages: Fast "element blocking" function to instantly block any advertisements.

Works with: Google Chrome.

NoScript

This tool is only suitable for Firefox and is more of a script blocker, not an ad blocker. NoScript prevents all types of scripts from loading on web pages: JavaScript, Java, Flash and others. You can allow loading of certain types of scripts. But by default, the tool applies a fairly “hard” filter.

As a result of its work, most display ads are blocked. Including aggressive ads on Orlando Sentinel, which other tools did not cope with. But NoScript doesn't block ads in videos at all.

Rating: 5.5 / 7

Main advantages: full script blocking.

Works with: Firefox.

Why are Privacy Badger and Ghostery missing from this list?

You may have heard of the popular adblockers Privacy Badger and Ghostery. The fact is that these plugins are not designed to block ads, but to opt out of ads and other site elements that violate user privacy. As a result, they both block certain types of advertisements. But first and foremost, the tools are aimed at protecting privacy.

This means that by using any of these plugins, you will not see the ads that you might be interested in. In addition, they provide limited control over what type of ad you want to block. And given their policy of "good advertising", you won't be able to block a certain part of the ads at all.

Google Chrome Ad Blocker

Despite the loud statements from Google developers, Chrome's built-in adblocker is not capable of much. During our testing, we found that it skips almost all advertisements.
At the same time, the control of the built-in blocker is very limited. Even finding a site that had advertisements blocked turned out to be a challenge. And since Chrome adblocker is designed to block certain types of advertisements, most of them are not intercepted.

Google's ad blocker looks like a fake. Perhaps its appearance forced some sites to remove particularly intrusive ads. But you will not be able to use this tool for full blocking.

A note on ad blocking and website revenue

Users hate ads for several reasons:

  • It can slow down page loading;
  • Many ads are intrusive and annoying;
  • Advertising is often not in the interests of users;
  • Ads may interrupt your viewing of content (particularly on video streaming sites such as Hulu or Crunchyroll);
  • Many advertisements contain a tracking code that sends information about user behavior to third parties.

The quality of displayed ads became so bad that even Google started using ad blocker in its Chrome browser. But Google's intentions. The company owns a large ad division and most likely Chrome does not block ads from Adsense.
The advertisements shown to us have various disadvantages. And they can be used to spread computer viruses by hackers.

Before installing any of the ad blockers, keep in mind that the sites you visit often rely on ad revenue to survive. Profit generated from broadcast advertising continues to be the main source of income for many Internet resources. In recent years, the use of ad blockers has resulted in websites losing $ 15.8 billion in revenue.
Whitelisting is a good way to ensure that the sites you like generate ad revenue. Even if you never click on ads, they all earn revenue early on from ad views.

Translation of the article " 10 best free ad blockers to remove ads and popups"Was prepared by a friendly project team

Probably, there is no need to say that advertising in Android applets or in browsers when accessing the Internet is indescribably annoying to all users without exception. But you can't get rid of this scourge by the system's own means. So what do you do? Blocking ads on Android systems can be done either using special programs or manually by changing one of the key system files.

Where do Android app ads come from?

Probably, every owner of an Android device thought about where so much garbage in the form of advertising comes from in programs. The answer to this question must be sought in the Google Play service itself, from which, in most cases, the download and installation of mobile applications is carried out.

The situation is such that absolutely all free applications that are presented in the service have built-in ads. Everything!!! The only exceptions are paid programs. They do not have this rubbish. But after all, not everyone wants (or can) pay a certain amount just to get rid of constantly pop-up messages and banners. But there is a way out. You need to use some application to block ads on Android, which will be able to remove it from both installed applications and from the browser when the user is surfing the Internet.

Types of advertising and how to eliminate it

But before proceeding to consider the question of how, for example, ad blocking in Chrome on Android or its elimination in installed applets is performed, it is worth looking at what its main types can be found.

Many experts, having analyzed all possible situations, tend to divide advertising into several main types:

  • static or dynamic (pop-up) banners from the top, bottom or full screen with a picture or video;
  • embedded advertising directly in the program interface;
  • advertising that appears after 2-3 days of using the application;
  • "Useful" advertising, after viewing which the user receives some points, bonuses, coins, etc.

As for the methods of eliminating it, in most cases, when installing additional applets, you must have superuser rights, otherwise you will not be able to achieve at least some significant result. But! It will not work - it does not mean that it is impossible in principle. Blocking ads on Android without root rights can also be done. Let us dwell on this separately.

By the way, one of the simplest methods to prevent the appearance of ads in applications is to download and install them not from the Google Play service, but to download their full counterparts in the form of APK files and then install them from other sources. But the resources must be verified, otherwise no one will give guarantees that you will not catch a virus somewhere. Programs on such sites in most cases are already free of ads, even in situations where the application requires constant Internet access for correct operation.

Blocking ads on Android: the most popular applications

On the Internet, you can now find a lot of software applets aimed at saving the user from annoying banners and messages. Not all of them are equal to each other. But in most cases, there are several of the most powerful, popular and interesting applications:

  • AdAway.
  • LuckyPatcher.
  • AdFree.
  • AdBlock.
  • Adguard.
  • Adblock Browser, etc.

This list is interesting because the first three applications necessarily require root rights, the second three can work without them. Let's take a look at several utilities. Basically, they all work on similar principles.

AdAway is the easiest app to use

Blocking ads on Android with this program is based on the automatic modification of the hosts file.

After installing and launching the application, you only need to use two buttons. First, you should tap on the file download button, and then on the button to disable ads. True, as it is already clear, the appearance of such programs is completely unprofitable for Google corporation, therefore it makes no sense to look for it in the Market. You will have to download from other sources and install manually.

AdBlock is a program for Android. Blocking ads for free

As you probably already know from the name, this applet is a mobile version of a computer add-on for browsers, adapted to Android systems.

This utility, like Adblock Browser, which is a regular browser with a built-in blocker, is intended to be used as an add-on (extension) to all available browsers in the system. True, she has one drawback. If the system provides for the provision of root rights, the application will filter absolutely all traffic, and to block without them, you will additionally need to configure the proxy server parameters. And please note that this application may not work on all devices and not on all versions of the Android operating system.

Lucky Patcher is a one-stop solution

Many experts believe that this application is the best ad blocking program on Android. And it's not even about the principles of work.

The program itself is in some way a slightly modified analogue of the AdAway applet in terms of interface. However, its possibilities are much wider. In fact, the application is a whole complex patcher for all occasions.

When launching programs, it performs a full system scan, and distributes the results in the application category into several types, highlighting them in different colors:

  • yellow - the application has been fixed and no additional action is required;
  • green - requires Google license verification;
  • blue - the presence of advertising.

A separate section contains programs that cannot be patched. By clicking on the desired application, the user receives an additional menu in which the option of action is selected (removing ads, installing a patch, etc.).

AdFree is another simple tool

This program almost completely repeats the above AdAway applet.

It not only uses the same principle of changing the hosts file, but also the procedure for eliminating problems in the form of using the file upload buttons and disabling ads.

Using manual mode

Blocking ads on Android in this case means downloading the modified hosts file from the Internet or creating it on your computer using any text editor (for example, Notepad). It looks like the image below.

To avoid troubles, you first need to rename the original system file (or make a backup copy of it), then place the new hosts object in the etc directory, which can be located either in the system root or in the System directory, using a file manager like Root Explorer. After that, all that remains is to reboot the device and rejoice.

What to use?

As for the choice of the preferred method for getting rid of ads, it is difficult to advise something specific, since each program is focused on a specific type of task. However, if you have superuser rights, it is better to install LuckyPatcher (the application can be useful for other purposes as well). But in the optimal variant, in order to remove ads from both installed programs and from the browser, the optimal solution would be to install two applets, one of which will block the appearance of unwanted banners in applications, and the second will eliminate ads when surfing the Internet. For example, you can install AdBlock in addition to LuckyPatcher. However, here the choice is for the owner of the mobile device. As for downloading or manually creating the hosts file, this option can be used if suddenly (which is unlikely) nothing else helps.

Are you looking for a way to permanently remove ads in your browser for free without registration and SMS :)? He is there. This is a simple and basic plugin called Adblock. More precisely, there is not even one, but two popular versions of this extension, as well as several ad blockers similar in functionality. There are versions for the Yandex browser, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari and others less popular. If these extensions do not help, most likely, your computer is already infected with a virus, and in order to eliminate it, you will have to sweat, but first things first.

Browser ad blockers

There are several types of ad blockers. The most popular and easiest to use are undoubtedly Adblock and Adblock Plus. Also, there are less common, but no less effective: uBlock, Adguard, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, Disconnect.

Installing Adblock

Control is carried out using a button in the control panel and LMB (Left Click with the Mouse) and RMB (Right Click with the Mouse) on it.

You can enable and disable certain types of advertising, include sites in the exclusion lists. All controls are easy and intuitive. You can turn off unwanted objects on the page.

The settings look like this

As you can see, the option to display unobtrusive ads is left by default. This means that ads that do not take up a lot of space and are labeled "ads" will not be blocked. Basically, you don't have to change the settings, and everything will work as it should, as they say, out of the box.

Site: https://adblockplus.org/ru

Description: A browser extension that completely blocks all annoying ads on websites, including Youtube and Facebook ads, sharing and like buttons, and spyware and malware.
On my own I will add that there is a localization of the site into Russian, in contrast to the same. For me, it's about something, yes it says.

Supported browsers:

  • Chrome (on the WebKit engine: Yandex Browser, Google Chrome and the like)
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Opera
  • Internet Explorer
  • Safari
  • Maxthon
  • Microsoft Edge

There is a mobile browser of its own production for Android and iOS - Adblock Browser.

Installation is also done in one click. As you can see, you can select your browser from the list

Control and configuration is also performed using LMB and RMB by the button that appears in the control panel (to the right of the URL entry field) after installing the extension.

And here's what the settings look like from the inside

As you can see, in general, the essence is similar to Adblock: unobtrusive advertising is allowed, there is a whitelist of domains (the list of allowed domains, for which Adblock Plus is disabled). There are personal filters, where you can set your own parameters of what exactly needs to be blocked on sites (in general, an option for advanced users).
A warning has been issued that the filter lists should not be too large, otherwise it can severely slow down the browser.

In general, these are two of the most popular ways to block inappropriate content on websites, and they are more than enough for almost all occasions. Use them and don't forget to include useful sites in the list of allowed domains.

Description: The original Adguard is a firewall with the ability to filter ads, prevent phishing at the network level, that is, incoming traffic is processed before it reaches the browser. This is its advantage over Adblock and other browser extensions. It is possible to install the Mac version, as well as mobile Android and iOS.
Adguard firewall is paid, but the cost is far from prohibitive, in the region of a couple of hundred rubles per year. In return, you get a complete commercial product with 24/7 support, ready to use right out of the box.

If you don't want to pay, there are extensions Adguard Anti-Banner for different types of browsers.

Supported browsers

  • Google chrome
  • Yandex browser
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Opera
  • Palemoon

What can I say - Adguard in comparative tests with uBlock, Adblock, Adblock Plus showed itself far from the worst. And blocking ads on mobile phones, in my opinion, is a rather useful feature, which is provided at the proper level by far from all available free applications. And here, for a meager fee, a complete set with guaranteed service and support. In general, Adguard is an option for those who value their time and money.

Site: https://www.ublock.org/
Description: a relatively young, but very promising extension for blocking ads on the site. The main advantage of uBlock over Adguard, Adblock and Adblock Plus, its authors say, is very low CPU load and memory consumption for the plugin to work. For clarity, comparison in memory consumption

As you can see, uBlock almost does not consume RAM, its level remains almost at the same level as in the absence of blockers

With the load on the processor, things are even more interesting.

Here you can clearly see that uBlock leaves its competitors far behind. In general, if you use Adblock or Adblock Plus, and because of them your browser slows down, I advise you to try uBlock, perhaps this is what you need

Supported browsers:

  • Chrome (Webkit: Google Chrome, Yandex Browser)
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari

Installation:

uBlock is very similar to Adblock and Adblock Plus - the same whitelist, a list of used filters, the ability to add your own. You can import and export settings, so you can easily transfer all your settings to another machine and do not lose them when reinstalling the operating system.

Control is performed using LMB and RMB by the button that appears in the browser control panel.

Customization: Third-party filters - check RUS: BitBlock List and RUS: RU AdList.

Then you need to update the filters (find the Update now button). The setup is complete.

Another point - some sites have scripts in their arsenal to detect and bypass Adblock and Adblock Plus. UBlock has an interesting Anti-Adblock Killer mechanism - it is a site detector with similar anti-blockers. Using this antiblock killer, uBlock finds such sites and forcibly cuts ads on them. So, here's another plus for using this interesting plugin. Try it.

Description: The main task of the extension is to find and suppress hidden spy scripts embedded in the code of site pages and suspicious objects. Also knows how to block aggressive ads

Supported browsers

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google chrome
  • Yandex browser

Site: https://www.eff.org/privacybadger

Description: essentially similar to Ghostery, the functionality and mission are generally the same as those of most similar blockers

Supported browsers

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google chrome
  • Yandex browser

Description: software that is no exception among its kind. It detects and suppresses surveillance, including from social networks, cuts ads, reports on the work done, and does it well. This becomes especially clear in light of the fact that the author of the extensions is a former employee of Google

Supported browsers

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google chrome
  • Yandex browser
  • Opera

If Adblock Doesn't Help

If you already have an ad blocker, but you have not disappeared pop-ups with annoying VKontakte ads and other nonsense, I have bad news for you - most likely, you have picked up a virus or Trojan. But, do not despair, there is a solution to every problem.

Alternatively, you can start scanning your computer using 2 free utilities, from Kaspersky and Dr.Web:

And even if a regular antivirus did not help, you are likely to be helped by special utilities to combat Spyware, Mailware and similar evil spirits. One of these programs can be downloaded here - https://www.malwarebytes.org/products/.
After scanning the system, all suspicious objects are sent to quarantine. If useful files are sent there by mistake, you can restore them.

Also, where to look:

The above measures should be enough to fix the problem with pop-up ads.

How to use Adblock correctly

As you know, advertising is the engine of trade, and without a market we would be deprived of adequate prices for goods and services. Therefore, not all advertising is bad. In addition, advertising on the site is often the only source of profit, due to which the site lives and develops, and there are many of them on the Web. I understand that some webmasters, in pursuit of profit, forget about the edges of reason, hanging the site with advertising like a Christmas tree with garlands. Yes, there are doorwayers, and those who do not shun the spread of viruses and Trojans, and then the adblock will definitely help you. But there are also some good, useful sites with soft ads that you visit regularly and that grow and evolve from the ads they place on them. I’m not urging you to completely stop using Adblock, but be sure to add helpful resources to your ad blocker's exclusion list to thank the creators for their efforts to create quality content.
