Intel turbo boost 2.0 technology.

This original product, from Intel, is designed to automate the increase in the frequency of functioning of the cores, as well as monitoring the operation of the cores of the Intel i3, Intel i5 and Intel i7 processors.

Intel Turbo Boost (ITB) is a unique solution for controlling and monitoring the operation of Intel processor cores in the background. The functioning of this utility is carried out by activating the ITB item in the BIOS firmware settings; without this condition, the program will not be able to fulfill its intended purpose. It is worth noting that the Intel Turbo Boost utility only works with processors that support ITB technology, which have been produced by the company since 2008. This is a line of Intel i3, Intel i5 and Intel i7 processors that replaced the early Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

Advantages

The principle of operation of ITB technology boils down to the fact that there is an increase in the clock frequency of the processor cores within the permissible limits in automatic mode. The maximum values are calculated from the characteristics of the equipment, which are declared by the manufacturer. These are the temperature and input voltage values. Early versions of the ITB utility were originally intended for applications that were not optimized for multi-core processors. Today, fresh versions of ITB are designed to provide an increase in the speed of work of various programs with support for working in a multi-threaded environment.

ITB is a technology in which the processor "self-accelerates". AMD has similar technological solutions. The central processor of this manufacturer “self-accelerates” according to approximately the same principle as ITB, but using AMD Turbo Core technology.

About the Intel Turbo Boost Program

ITB is the simplest utility that does not require the installation of additional software for its operation. The only program supplied by the manufacturer is only for monitoring the status of the CPU.

Main features of ITB

  • Correctly and safely overclocks the performance of the central processor;
  • this technology is supported only by the latest i3, i5 and i7 processors;
  • gives a significant increase in performance of applications that are not optimized for multi-core processors;
  • pre-installed in the BIOS by the manufacturer and does not require third-party applications for correct operation.

New Features
Features Added in Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor 2.5 v2.6
- Included support for 3rd Generation Intel Core processors
- Included support for Windows 8 32 and 64 bit operating system (Legacy DT mode)
Included detection and prevention of installation on Corei3-3217U processor based systems
. Intel has discovered the Core i3-3217U incorrectly reports Intel Turbo Boost Technology as enabled

Known Issues

Changing configurable TDP settings may change behavior of the Monitor to display new turbo levels. E.g. frequency text may be displayed while the energy saver leaf is present ; the bar maybe at midpoint and not display the frequency text
Workaround: None. This is expected behavior
- "Reinstall using recommended settings" after installation failure causes “Invalid Operating System” dialog error.
Workaround: Rename the install executable Setup.exe to a different name (e.g. Setup2.exe) then re-launch the install.
- If Intel Turbo Boost Technology is disabled in system BIOS, no Turbo Boost activity appears in the application. This is expected behavior.
Workaround: Enable Intel Turbo Boost Technology in the system BIOS.

About Tuning Utility:

Install this tuning utility and you will be able to manually configure various overclocking values, such as CPU and memory frequencies, system clocks, fan speeds, and monitor temperatures for different components.

However, please note that you're supposed to tweak these settings only between supported ranges; changing configurations to extreme values without additional cooling systems might seriously damage components.

The installation steps needed for the software to be applied are very easy: get the downloadable package, extract it if necessary, run the available setup, and carefully follow all displayed instructions for a complete and successful installation.

In addition to that, please note that it's recommended you perform a system reboot so that all changes can take effect properly. Bear in mind that, even though other OSes might be compatible, we don’t suggest against installing this release on platforms other than the highlighted ones.

That being said, click the download button, get the package and set up this feature on your system. For more on the latest releases, keep checking back with our website to “stay updated one minute ago.”

Intel Turbo Boost is a software solution that is necessary to provide real-time monitoring of the operation of the corresponding technology. Let us immediately draw your attention to the fact that in order to use the program, ITB technology must be enabled in the BIOS firmware menu. Otherwise, installing the software is useless. In addition, Intel Turbo Boost is not supported by all processors. CPUs with ITB support have been released to manufacturers since 2008, that is, from the introduction of new lines of i3, i5 and i7 processors, which replaced the Core 2 Duo. At the time of writing this review, the current version is Intel Turbo Boost 3.0.

Advantages

So, the main purpose of this technology is to automatically increase the clock frequencies of the processor cores to acceptable values. Permissible values are calculated based on the manufacturer's declared TDP, applied voltage and nominal temperatures. In general, the first version of the technology and the version of Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 provided a performance boost only in those applications that were not optimized for multi-core CPUs (that is, they used only one core). Newer versions of ITB help to increase the performance of programs that support multi-threaded mode.

In fact, Intel Turbo Boost is a kind of technology for "self-accelerating" the central processor. The main competitor, AMD, has a similar solution. The processors of this manufacturer support AMD Turbo Core technology, the principle of which is very similar to that of ITB.

About the program

In general, Intel Turbo Boost does not require the installation of additional software. The only application that the developer provides is responsible for displaying current information about CPU frequencies and their artificial increase.

Key features

  • responsible for automatic acceleration of the central process to acceptable frequencies;
  • supported only by new CPU models;
  • helps to significantly optimize the performance of applications running with a single core;
  • enabled by default in the BIOS;
  • does not require additional software for correct operation.

I lost 10 days to solve the problem of low frequency, dug up everything I could, I was already thinking about learning how to flash the BIOS with unlock settings. I also installed hidden power mode parameters from the registry, set the maximum values, took the laptop apart, cleaned everything, changed the thermal paste, changed the HDD to an SSD. Tested in a variety of programs aida, 3d mark, a bunch of utilities from Intel and many others. Installed a new BIOS firmware from HP manufacturer. Firewood updated many times, including special programs to search for those. And… one hell of a thing, a frequency of 798 or a little lower + already so annoying dead cake of the zero scale and a green leaf of energy saving in the turbo boost monitor. Complete despair and desire to burn this fiend.

I bought a used laptop, and did not pay attention to the real indicators of the stone, because I had no experience with overclocking and, accordingly, with programs for monitoring and testing the processor. In short, more to the point, maybe this will help many, or maybe I was blind and did not see the solution, thanks to the author who resurrected the acer on one of the forums.

Download the program ThrottleStop. and in the lower left corner of the window we find the item BD Prochot, and chop it off to hell. And look at the frequency in the program monitor. Not believing my eyes and having previously saved the program settings using the Save button, I launched several more different monitoring programs. By the way, to the topic, including the Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology Monitor 2.6 program.

At first, at startup, I only shot a column up for a second, and up to a nominal frequency of 2.2, and so on every time the program was launched. I don’t know what is connected with, but no matter how I drove the turbo boost percent refused to respond. Then, having launched the TS Bench test in the holy ThrottleStop program, I watched the scale, but it is dead. Began to twist the power saving mode with the settings from the registry. And Windows eventually hung with interest until the reboot and a sad emoticon informing you that something went wrong. But after restarting the computer, opening ThrottleStop and unchecking that feces, and in the power saving mode, choosing the maximum performance and returning it to default, I heard a pleasant buzzing of the cooler, and in the turbo boost monitor a cheerful blue pillar jumping up to 3 with a penny. Almost broke off the monitor with joy.

Afterword, BD Prochot is a hat that blocks the frequency at low rates if something overheats in the system.
Using the Speed fan utility, it was revealed that everything was in order with the temperature of the main elements of the laptop. Therefore, I decided to put a bolt on this parameter. Most likely the previous owner did it. Um .. and suspiciously cheap, he sold me a laptop, only now I understand why.

And by the way, now in high performance mode high frequencies + turbo boost are more often shown, in balance mode the same 800 mhz (Green leaf has not gone anywhere), but with short-term turbo boost activated. Therefore, even this mode is enough for ordinary everyday tasks.
