speedfan is a free program that allows you to change the fan speed and temperature in your PC system. You can either set a fixed speed or set it to dynamically change depending on the temperature inside your computer case. We recommend learning how to use SpeedFan only for advanced users, while beginners can do a lot of trouble with the help of the SpeedFan program.

How to use SpeedFan

To start using SpeedFan, of course, you need to download and install it. It is recommended to use only verified sites (for example, get the program here: http://www.softportal.com/software-3121-speedfan.html), otherwise you may get a damaged version, catch a virus, a Trojan, or encounter several of the these troubles at once: Dernaket.ru, Amigo Browser, omiga-plus.com, etc.

So, after downloading and installing, launch SpeedFan.

To start if not selected Russian interface, it would be nice to switch to it for greater convenience of further work.

Russification is done very simply: click Configure(this is a button on the first main tab, which for the time being will be called in bourgeois - “Readings”), among all the tabs we find Options, and there is already an item language. We choose our native language, already built-in from the very beginning - no additional crackers need to be downloaded.

Let's move on to mastering the direct functions of the SpeedFan program

First tab "Indicators"(the same former "Readings") will allow you to see the rotational speed of the fans, the temperature and how stressed the system is.

Second - "Frequencies". There you can overclock the processor and specify the conditions under which the system bus frequency will increase or decrease. Remember that excessive overclocking of the processor can be dangerous, up to computer failure. But a little overclocking can be safe, and performance will increase significantly.

Using SpeedFan Contributions "Information" and "SMART“, you can find out the status of the RAM and hard drive.

Then "Graphics"- shows temperature graphs of computer devices. It is convenient to monitor under what circumstances the temperature rises or falls.

You need to start the settings in the tab "Indicators" after going to it and clicking on the button Configuration.

A menu with several tabs will open − Fans, Speeds, Voltages, Temperature etc. When you go to each of the tabs, a list will appear in which you need to check the boxes where you need to activate. You can also edit any of the available parameters there.

By changing these or those values, we will regulate the reliability, stability, noiselessness and speed of the computer. Let's say if you lower the fan speed without changing anything else, the result will be the following: the computer will become less noisy, but more heated.

It would seem that "the nose got out - the tail got stuck", but still this is not entirely true. By experimenting with the settings, it is quite possible to achieve a more comfortable and high-quality computer operation (objectively or exclusively for you) than without using the program. But you should have a good understanding of all the characteristics of your equipment in order to guarantee and safely for the system to get a similar result.

In the tab "Developments" the actions of the program are configured when a particular temperature is reached (for example, if the processor heats up to 75 degrees Celsius, immediately turn off the computer).

It makes sense to use SpeedFan only for advanced users, if you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to postpone the program for a while.

For many users of personal computers or laptops, sometimes programs that can monitor the status of the device and change some system settings are sometimes a salvation during work. But for the correct operation of all functions, you must correctly configure the program itself. Setting up Speedfan can be done in a few minutes, the main thing is to follow all the tips.

In the system configurations, the user will need to make several changes or check that nothing is knocked down and everything works according to the documentation. The first step is to set the temperatures (minimum and maximum) and select a fan for each part of the system unit, which is responsible for it.
Usually the program does everything on its own, but it is necessary to set up an alarm when the temperature is exceeded, otherwise some parts may fail. In addition, you can change the name of any device, which is sometimes very convenient.

After choosing the temperature limits, you can also configure the coolers themselves, for which the program is responsible. Speedfan allows you to choose which fans to show in the menu and which not. Therefore, the user can speed up or slow down only the necessary coolers.
And again, the program makes it possible to change the name of each fan, so that it is easier to navigate them when setting the speed.

Speed ​​setting

Adjusting the speeds in the program menu is quite simple, but in the parameters themselves you need to tinker a little so as not to confuse anything. For each fan, you must set the minimum allowed speed and the maximum allowed speed. In addition, it is worth choosing the automatic speed control item so that you can not think about manual settings.

Appearance and operation

Naturally, Speedfan customization will be incomplete if the user does not touch the appearance. Here you can select the font for the text, the color for the window and text, the language of the program, and some other properties.
The user can select the program operation mode when minimizing and the speed delta (it is necessary to set it only with full knowledge of the matter, otherwise it may disrupt the operation of all fans).

Program settings

In order for the application to work stably and regulate the operation of all hardware components of the computer, it must be configured.

Let's take a closer look at how to use and how to set up the program in a few minutes.

This configuration method and instructions are suitable for any version of the program, because they all have the same interface:

  • Use the program in English, not in Russian. In this way, incorrect display of some detected system parameters can be avoided;
  • Run the program as an administrator, as shown in the figure;


  • After starting the program, you need to wait a few seconds. At this time, the utility determines the hardware components with which to work in the future;

  • To start the configuration process, click on the configuration button, which is located on the right side of the main program window. The following window will appear;


  • The window is divided into several tabs. The figure above shows the tab with component temperatures. The values ​​in the second column indicate the chip motherboard The from which the device is being read.
    This way we can determine which component temperature is shown. Let's start setting up the temperature display, for example, of a video card. It corresponds to the GeForce Video card chip. Click on the device.

  • Uncheck all devices named Temp. They were not determined by the program and it is impossible to measure their temperature;


Changing fan speed

If the CPU temperature is less than desired, the fans will spin slowly.

When the temperature reaches the desired value, the fans will start to run faster, and finally, when the temperature reaches the alarm level, the program will warn the user of a possible danger.

How to increase cooler speed? The latest version of the program allows you to dynamically adjust the rotation of the fan(s).

This means that depending on the temperature of the processor or video card, which is determined in the first tab, the fan will run at different speeds.

If the utility does not see the fans, restart it.

If the utility does not regulate and detect components, autoload will help (if the standard detection does not work).

To do this, you need to add a shortcut with the program to the startup menu of the device manager.

Let's take a closer look at how to change the fan speed. In our case, the program detected two system fans.

For each of them, you can determine the rotational power on a scale from 1 to 100.

When the processor temperature is normal, the fan will operate at minimum power, and, accordingly, vice versa.

Program analogues

A worthy analogue of the utility described above is the RivaTuner program, however, its functionality is not as wide as that of Speedfan.

RivaTuner is more suitable for tuning work gaming computer video cards.

The program is able to overclock the video card using a special driver, as well as create a detailed report on the characteristics of the graphical user interface used.

Hello friends Today we will talk about such a program as SpeedFan, I will tell you what it is for and you can decide if you need it or not. SpeedFan is a program for adjusting the speed of fans inside the system unit. That is, with the help of SpeedFan you can make your computer quieter.

You can reduce the speed or increase it, it all depends on the temperature regime in which the computer operates. The temperature is displayed in the SpeedFan program itself, but personally I use another program for this - Aida64, it’s somehow more convenient for me there.

SpeedFan can only control the speed of those fans that are connected with three wires, there are two for electricity and one wire goes to service, just for such programs.

In addition to SpeedFan, the motherboard initially monitors the speed, unless, of course, you change the settings in the BIOS there. Usually the BIOS has speed control, that is, when the processor has a high temperature, the speed increases, and when it is low, it decreases accordingly, some boards can even stop the fans from working. If you have a modern computer and you have not changed the settings in the BIOS, then most likely everything is happening to you. But, it may be that the computer makes a lot of noise even when it is not loaded - it means that the BIOS settings have already been dug up to you.

SpeedFan does not support the Russian language, but I think that without it it's easy to figure out what's what. True, the Russified version can also be found on the Internet. After starting the program, you will see the following window:

In this window, you can see the CPU Usage indicators, after which there are two halves, so to speak, on the left are the fan speeds that are currently set, and on the right are the temperatures of different devices.

A little explanation of which term means what:

  • SysFan - the rotation speed of the cooler, which is connected to the SysFan connector. All connectors are usually signed on the board, but if you have instructions from the board, then it is better to look at it;
  • CPU0 Fan - usually responsible for the cooler that is on the processor heatsink, this connector on the board is labeled as CPU0 Fan;
  • Aux0 Fan - a fan that is connected to the Aux0 Fan connector;
  • CPU1 Fan - this is in case you have a motherboard for two processors, then the connector for the second processor cooler is signed as CPU1 Fan;
  • Aux1 Fan - a fan that is connected to the Aux1 Fan connector;
  • PWR Fan - fan connected to the PWR Fan connector; there is an opinion that this parameter can show the number of revolutions of the cooler in the power supply, but I'm not sure about this, because the fan in the power supply is regulated by a separate board and it is unlikely that it tells the motherboard about the revolutions;
  • Fan1-Fan3 - additional fans;

Usually, modern boards, especially those that are a little more expensive, do a good job of monitoring temperature and changing the fan speed if necessary. That's right, just a note. Personally, I played with such programs as SpeedFan, but I came to the conclusion that it is better to entrust this matter to the motherboard. But, I do not argue that old boards, for example, on the 775th socket, can regulate all this incorrectly.

Now let me tell you a little about some points. Here is the connector, which is referred to as 3 pin and can be adjusted:

Now we make a small conclusion. If there are two wires from the fan, then such a fan cannot be adjusted, simply because there is no additional wire, as I already wrote a service wire (usually it is yellow). Therefore, in this picture, the first plug will not allow you to change the speed, and the second and third ones will allow:

All of them also will not allow to regulate the speed, I think that is understandable. In order to regulate all the same, you need to come up with some crutches (resistors), which, in my opinion, are still not a solution to this problem. Example:

Personally, I don’t like this for the reason that you can’t increase the speed when you need it. If you need to reduce the speed forever, then it is better to use adapters, that is, connect the fan directly to the power supply for 5 or 7 volts.

How to remove SpeedFan completely from your computer?

If you decide that you do not need this program, then you need to remove it. To do this, I recommend using a special software called , it will not only remove the program, but also clean the system after removal. In general I recommend

How to manually clean the registry after uninstalling SpeedFan?

Well, this is only for advanced users who keep their system strictly clean.

The keys to SpeedFan may remain in the registry, in principle they do not load the system. Personally, I'm used to cleaning the registry this way, especially since I don't uninstall software that often.

So, first we open the registry, for this we hold down Win + R, write regedit there and click OK:


Then the registry editor will open, hold Ctrl + F there and write a word by which we will search for junk keys in the registry. That is, we write speedfan and click Find next:


All results that are found will be highlighted. For each, right-click and select Delete:

Let's start the setup

You can see that all available temperature values ​​are displayed that the SpeedFan fog can detect. The "Chip" column indicates the sensor chip. In this case, you and I have three different chips: one W83782D and two LM75. We can tell the two LM75s apart because of the different addresses ($48 and $49). The LM75 chips, in this case, are essentially clones created by the W83782D, and we will pay little attention to them, because all temperatures are available directly through the W83782D. Yes, this is not always true. Winbond chips can be configured in such a way that they will actually bury (save) the real temperature received from the main sensor. In this case, you need to sweat over something with the LM75. So, we choose the desired temperature. Roughly (say), we chose TEMP02.

Choose " Wishlist" (Desired) and " Anxious» (Warning) temperature values ​​are unanimously our wishes. Note that we say: "wishes." You are free to set any values. But the illiterate should rush to extremes and set the values, approximately to say, in the region of 15 degrees. This will not bring the desired result.
You see exactly, we first have to choose the temperature, over time we can choose its parameters. That's all, you can rename the name of the temperature (using the mouse alias by pressing "F2"). The new name will be more obvious in the main window.

We have renamed TEMP1 and TEMP2 to CPU1 and CPU0.

It turns out that we have finished renaming and setting the parameters in (types of each temperature. Since in our case the highest liquidus in the system is the “Case” temperature, we decided to reflect it in the “flag Show In Traybar»).
About this time, we must hide in the main window the temperatures that are unusable. In our case, these are the LM75 indicators. There is no system for the use of the Dathers, it will be that it is a mateful thing that is not aimed to do not have any time.

Clear the checkboxes from the text of temperatures, which, according to your opinion, are not useful unless they have incorrect values.

Now there is an ordering of the temperatures displayed in the main window. Until now, what we have to do is deplete the drag&drop to move them to the origin or down.

Ordering speeds

These are the default settings for this system. You can set home minimums ( minimum value) and maximum ( maximum value) power values ​​for each fan.

Do not forget about the book that not every motherboard has internal reserves for controlling fan speeds. This, first of all, depends on what sensors can be installed on it and detected by the SpeedFan program. In this case, the same applies to temperatures, voltages and fans. Not important (= unimportant) each sensor chip can control all these parameters in the world. SpeedFan displays all the information available to it.

We will not adjust voltages here. Ant. describe there, because they can also, by analogy with other parameters, be renamed, hidden and arranged.

Assignment of speeds to temperatures

Now the main window looks much better than when the program was first launched. Flame icons are gone and unnecessary values ​​no longer clutter up the window :)

So we still have CPU0 speed and CPU1 thrust equal to 100%.
The fan speed needs to be reduced.
Please note that you will not be able to change all speeds purely. This depends on the sensors and controllers installed on your motherboard.
So as who, in this case, we have the W83782D, we have the ability to change many parameters.

Going back to twenty-five in the settings panel, we can see exactly how the CPU0 temperature is related to all available speeds, two of which have flags, and the other two shine with their absence. This happens because we have hidden such speeds from the main window and the program, assuming that we do not need these speeds, unconsciously unchecked them.

Each PWM can raise or lower the speed of one fan.
Conceptually, each fan can affect any temperature.
We then tell the program that CPU0 speed and CPU1 speed (which are related to PWM2 and PWM1) both affect CPU0 temperature. This means that SpeedFan will try to intensify. Ant. slow down both of these fans when the CPU0 temperature is hot and try to slow them down when the temperature drops.

This is how we have formed the temperature of CPU0 from now on.
But this is unimportant (= unimportant) what actually happens in this system.
At this point, the CPU0 temperature changes under the influence of the CPU0 (fan) speed and the heat of CPU1 changes under the influence of the CPU1 speed.

We change the configuration adequately.

There is one more temperature that our sister would like to control: the Case temperature.
This heat changes in fact under the influence of both fans. Yes, you and I can easily tell the program about it.

Automatic speed option

As you can see, with the checkbox " Automatic Fan Speed”, the agility does not change automatically. Therefore, we return to the tab " speeds» settings panel.

We select the speed of the fan we need and put a tick in the column " Automatically varied» (Automatic recycling). This should be done for all coolers whose speeds are planned to be compared automatically.
Now the speeds of the fans we need will be reborn depending on the temperatures set by us on the tab " Temperatures».

By default, SpeedFan can change each speed from up to 100%.
In the main window of the program, uncheck the box " Automatic Fan Speed» (Automatic fan speed control), SpeedFan will stop mechanical speed control.

Setting the desired speeds

The water from the fans in our system is quite quiet earlier at 65% power ( Minimum Value). This is good as it still runs at 5700 rpm. The other ventilation pump is noisier. Therefore, the value of its power is good to differ somewhat from the first.

90% power ( maximum value) the second cooler is enough to cool the central processor to an acceptable temperature. Around 100% the noise level becomes quite high.

With these settings, the program will dynamically change the speed of the first fan from 65 to 100%, and the speed of the second - from 65 to 90%.

Please note that if " Anxious» (Warning) liquidus reached, SpeedFan will set the fan speed to 100% in addition to whatever we have set so far.

It describes the basic settings that do nothing to make for the successful operation of the program.
