Sony: great smartphones, disgusting naming. The announcement of the Sony Xperia X is the perfect balance

As part of MWC 2014, it would therefore make sense to compare the two phones and find out if the new device is worthy of the name of the flagship device. To do this, it is enough to compare two smartphones, an overview of their specifications and capabilities, from which we can actually conclude - what is the difference between Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z1. And so, let's get started.

Design loved by many

Both smartphones are made in accordance with the proprietary design of OmniBalance. For those who are just starting to get interested in the brand's devices, I would like to explain a little - the concept is based on the smoothness of the lines and the symmetry of the device, no matter from which side you look at the smartphone. Reflective surface, clean lines and slightly rounded surfaces create a certain balance. In terms of appearance, both devices are beautiful and look expensive - aluminum frame, protective glass on both sides, this creates a sense of premium style. It is worth noting that the Xperia Z1 screen is also covered with an anti-shatter film, the removal of which threatened to deprive the company logo. The Xperia Z2 decided to do without a film and, for sure, the screen has an oleophobic coating. In terms of dimensions, there are also no significant changes, but the new device has become thinner and lighter. For comparison:

  • Dimensions Xperia Z2 - 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm and weight 158 grams.
  • Dimensions Xperia Z1 - 144.4 x 73.9 x 8.5 mm and weight 169 grams.

The side frames of the display in the new flagship have become a little thinner, it looks more slender, well, it fits better in the hand.

Display ComparisonSonyXperiaZ2 andXperiaZ1 - the novelty has it much better

The weak point of the Xperia Z1 was its 5-inch display, which caused a storm of negativity in discussions. The picture on it was read perfectly, the color reproduction was realistic, the clarity and brightness were at a high level, but all this if you look at the screen directly. If it is slightly tilted, then fading and the appearance of whiteness were noticeable. This, of course, is not critical and I cannot call the predecessor's screen bad, but it was still far from ideal. I made this opinion after looking at the slightly enlarged 5.2-inch Sony Xperia Z2 display - a high-quality, juicy, rich picture, a riot of colors and colors, excellent detail and simply amazing viewing angles. All thanks to the IPS matrix, which is used in the manufacture of the new screen. Both smartphones have TRILUMINOS screens with Full HD resolution and X-Reality technology for mobile devices that processes the picture.

Not without the introduction of innovation - the second socket has a new LED technology Live Color LED using phosphor in subpixels, which provides even better depth and intensity of colors and shades.

Performance

The display isn't the only improvement on the Xperia Z2 - the hardware is also better. Responsible for performance is a new Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz, Adreno 330 GPU and a whopping 3GB of RAM. It was expected that the new smartphone will receive the most powerful processor from Qualcomm - Snapdragon 805, but as it turned out, it will not be installed in any devices until the summer. In fact, if we compare the parameters of two phones, we get the following picture: the Krait 400 cores in the Snapdragon 801 are 15% faster than the same 4 Snapdragon 800 cores in the Sony Xperia Z1, despite the fact that both smartphones have a video chip Adreno 330, in the new product it is 28% more productive due to the increased processing speed of the processor, and the processing of the camera sensor is as much as 45% faster. Well, an additional 1 GB of RAM also affects the best way for the newly minted superphone.

Smartphone cameras

The Sony Xperia Z2 shares the same camera as its bigger brother - a 20.7MP sensor with a 1/2.3" Exmor RS sensor, a 27mm Sony G Lens with F2.0 aperture, and a BIONZ image processor that performs intelligent processing of the footage. But a faster processor and more RAM allowed the camera to add more features - 4K video recording, Timeshift video and others. You can understand a little more about the new camera features from the phone.

Sound

The speakers in the Xperia Z2 are much louder and now there are two of them - below and above, there is also an S-Force Surround Sound effect that creates three-dimensional surround sound. By the way, the speakers are aimed at the user and thanks to their good location, you will hear high-quality, clear and loud sound. Another interesting innovation is the support for digital noise reduction technology, which, paired with the included Sony MDR-NC31EM headphones, provides maximum protection against external noise. Another plus in the piggy bank of the new device.

System

The Sony Xperia Z2, like the Sony Xperia Z1, uses its own graphical user interface, however, the new version of the Android 4.4 KitKat system is installed, which has a significant number of additional functions, and in general it works much more stable than the 4.3 JB system version. Of course, the Z1 should also get an update and all these features soon.

Battery

Well, the final touch in favor of the new flagship will be a more capacious 3200 mAh battery (against 3000 mAh of its predecessor). It, together with the proprietary STAMINA mode, will provide longer battery life for the smartphone, both in standby mode and in conversation and multimedia use.

conclusions

Now let's summarize all of the above. “Flagship!”, I will tell you without embarrassment. The Sony Xperia Z2 is a great successor to the Xperia Z1. The smartphone took into account all the wishes and claims from users, in fact, as it was when the Xperia Z1 replaced the Xperia Z, only the current new flagship is really perfect.

In contact with

Smartphones from Sony are quite popular these days. This is logical, because the company manages to produce gadgets of excellent quality at an affordable price. Therefore, they are so popular among buyers and collect positive reviews. We have compiled a ranking of the best Sony Xperia smartphones based on customer feedback. That's what came out of it.

1st - Sony Xperia Z3 Compact ($430)

One of the best compact phones, which is priced at $430. It is about this model that the largest number of positive reviews, so we placed it in first place.

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 4.6 inches;
  2. IPS-matrix, resolution 1280x720 dpi;
  3. 4-core processor with a frequency of 2.5 GHz;
  4. 2 GB RAM;
  5. Excellent rear camera with LED flash and a resolution of 20.7 MP;
  6. 2600 mAh battery;
  7. The presence of satellite navigation modules (GPS / GLONASS), various sensors such as a gyroscope, compass, etc.
  8. A full-fledged model (not Compact) took first place in our review of phones under 20 thousand rubles. Find it on this one.

The manufacturer managed to “shove” excellent hardware and sensors into a small and compact case, which makes this model multifunctional. If you are looking for a small and efficient phone with a variety of possible features, then it is appropriate to consider this gadget in the first place. With all this, the device is waterproof!

Feedback on this model is positive. In particular, they distinguish the survivability of the phone and its resistance to various mechanical influences. Here is a great camera with different “gadgets” and a fairly powerful battery that needs to be charged once every 2 days.

As for the shortcomings, first of all it is heating. It heats up so much that it can be used as a boiler (it's waterproof). And one more thing: this phone is slippery, although this is a dubious drawback.

2nd place - Xperia Z1 Compact ($320)

Second place goes to the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, which costs less - $ 320. Of course, the characteristics will also be worse, but in general this is an excellent device for reasonable money.

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 4.3 inches;
  2. IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1280 × 720;
  3. 4-core processor with a frequency of 2.2 GHz;
  4. 2 GB RAM;
  5. Camera with a resolution of 20.7 MP, LED flash and auto focus.
  6. 2300 mAh battery;
  7. Availability of satellite navigation modules.

There are some differences between this smartphone and the previous model, but they are minor. This is also a beautiful and compact gadget with a good battery and water protection. It collects positive customer reviews, which primarily note the protection against water, as well as a capacious battery that lasts for one and a half to two days.

As for the shortcomings, first of all it is the back cover, which scratches very quickly. The external speaker is also weak, and one of the buyers complained that the device catches the network very poorly. However, this is a one-time review.

3rd - Xperia Z2 (D6503) ($436)

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 5.2 inches;
  2. IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1920 × 1080;
  3. 2.3 GHz processor (4 cores);
  4. RAM 3 GB;
  5. Rear camera with a resolution of 20.7 MP;
  6. Satellite navigation modules and the presence of various sensors.

Impressive specs, but more impressive reviews. The phone is very popular due to its high reliability. Buyers note that even after three years of operation, there are no problems with it. It also boasts a fairly high performance, high-quality assembly and really good water resistance. There is a bright and clear screen, an excellent camera with different “buns”, which makes shooting more interesting and varied.

As for the shortcomings, first of all it is the weight and dimensions. Many write that the case is slippery, so you should use it very carefully, otherwise it will fall and break.

4th - Xperia V ($220)

Inexpensive and practical smartphone worth $220. It has water resistance, which, given the cost, is exceptionally rare.

Characteristics:

  1. 4.3 inch screen;
  2. TFT screen with a resolution of 1280×720;
  3. 2-core processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz;
  4. RAM 1 GB;
  5. 1750 mAh battery;
  6. Rear camera (13 MP) with built-in flash, face recognition, autofocus;
  7. Satellite navigation modules.

The most important advantage of this smartphone is its low cost. At the same time, it has pretty good characteristics: judging by the reviews, the smartphone works quickly and without “glitches”. There is a bright screen, a good camera, and the device itself has a stylish laconic design. Also, buyers note that the smartphone is tenacious and there are no problems with it for three years. Therefore, his presence in this rating is fully justified.

5th place - Xperia C ($300)

A slightly more expensive smartphone compared to the previous model, which will cost the buyer $30. There is no water protection, but you can insert 2 SIM cards at once.

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 5 inches and a resolution of 960 × 540;
  2. RAM 1 GB;
  3. 2390 mAh battery;
  4. 8 MP camera with auto focus, flash, face and smile detection technology.

The low resolution immediately catches the eye, which is usually not typical for models with a diagonal of 5 inches. This is the first drawback. However, this disadvantage is offset by the advantages: this is a reliable gadget that will last for many years. There is also a very capacious battery - its capacity is enough for 2-3 days of operation. Low cost is another advantage. Also, many buyers note the poor quality of the front camera - this is also a weak point.

6th - Xperia Z5 Compact ($520)

A very cool and expensive flagship from Sony worth $520. Immediately worth noting: the model is worth the money!

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 4.6 inches and a resolution of 1280 × 720;
  2. 8-core processor;
  3. 2 GB RAM;
  4. 32 GB internal memory;
  5. Capacious battery (2700 mAh);
  6. Camera with a resolution of 23 MP and autofocus;
  7. Satellite navigation modules;
  8. There is water protection.

The gadget collects positive reviews. It's fast and powerful, has an excellent camera and a large battery that doesn't need to be charged every day. It also has a very fast GPS module.

As for the shortcomings, users note a weak sound and a high price. It also gets very hot and is slippery, so it's easy to drop it. We do not recommend this gadget for people with “holey” hands.

7th - Xperia M2 Dual sim ($187)

A cheap and simple smartphone from Sony Xperia costing $187 on average. It doesn't have any unique features. It's just a good and functional gadget that is worth the money.

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 4.8 inches;
  2. Resolution 960x540;
  3. 4-core processor with a frequency of 1.2 GHz;
  4. 1 GB RAM;
  5. 2300 mAh battery;
  6. 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash;
  7. Satellite navigation modules.

This smartphone has all the functional features that Sony loves so much for. Build quality, branded camera (sensor) and laconic classic design. A definite plus is the support for two SIM cards, as well as excellent sound from speakers and headphones. Certainly not for audiophiles.

It is also worth talking about the disadvantages. After updating the Android version above version 5, the phone “thinks” longer when you try to turn on the camera or make a call. However, this is typical of almost all smartphones with weak hardware.

In fact: this is an ordinary good smartphone with a limited resource of components. However, its low cost eliminates the shortcomings, so the device is in the ranking of the best.

8th - Xperia E ($140)

Another inexpensive gadget from Sony is the Sony Xperia E, which costs $140 on average. This is a practical and simple gadget, which, however, collects positive customer reviews.

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 3.5 inches and a resolution of 480x320;
  2. Simple processor with a frequency of 1 GHz;
  3. 512 RAM;
  4. Camera with a resolution of 3.2 MP;
  5. 1530 mAh battery.

This is a weak gadget, however, its price is appropriate. The smartphone is also compact and boasts a shock-resistant body. Many users complain about the lack of built-in memory and performance, which is logical, given its parameters. But we must not forget about its reliability - this is a quality phone that will work for many years.

9th - Xperia T2 Ultra dual ($225)

Beautiful Sony Xperia T2 Ultra dual gadget worth $225. Its main distinguishing feature is a large screen with excellent resolution.

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 6 inches and a resolution of 1280x720 pixels;
  2. 4-core processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz;
  3. 1 GB RAM;
  4. Camera with a resolution of 13 MP, autofocus and face detection;
  5. Satellite navigation modules;
  6. Battery 3000 mAh

For only $225, the buyer will get a great gadget with a great big screen and an excellent rear camera. There is also a capacious battery, thanks to which the phone does not need to be charged every day. However, the model is not without flaws: the back cover is easily scratched, the case is not very hard, and the external speaker is rather weak. Some buyers complain about the quality of photos, videos.

10th - Xperia C3 dual ($227)

The latest representative of the best Sony Xperia smartphones is the C3 dual model with support for two SIM cards, as the name implies.

Characteristics:

  1. Screen with a diagonal of 5.5 inches and a resolution of 1280x720;
  2. 4-core processor with a frequency of 1.2 GHz;
  3. RAM 1 GB;
  4. 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and face detection;
  5. Satellite navigation modules;
  6. 2500 mAh battery.

The gadget turned out to be excellent, and it is not in vain that there are a lot of positive reviews about it. There is a large screen with excellent picture detail. Despite the fact that the model is large, it is light. The battery boasts a great resource. The smartphone lasts for 7 hours of active use, which is an excellent indicator for modern models. Well, support for two SIM cards is a bonus.

As for the shortcomings, buyers first of all single out a weak camera that lathers and shoots with “noises”. Therefore, if you want to get high-quality pictures, you will have to edit them in some kind of photo editor. There are also complaints about the curved work of the GPS module and the lack of RAM.

This week started for the smartphone market with the completely unexpected announcement of the Sony Xperia XA, Xperia X and Xperia X Performance (preview). It is worth paying tribute to the Japanese security services: no flagship shown at MWC 2016 was as shrouded in mystery as Sony's X-series. The new line marked the rebirth of the entire Xperia brand, and at the same time the death of the Xperia Z collection. Let's remember all the models in this series, from the very first Xperia Z to the 4K flagship Z5 Premium. There were twenty-one in all, so get comfortable.

The process of parting with Ericsson for Sony's mobile business dragged on for a whole year. The first Sony without Ericsson were marked with a joint venture logo, and the Sony Xperia S was known to the Japanese as the Sony Ericsson Xperia NX. The first smartphone truly without Ericsson heritage was the Xperia Z. It was announced on January 7, 2013 at CES. It was the Xperia Z that introduced the OmniBalance design concept to the world, which included slightly rounded edges, symmetry and smooth reflective surfaces on all sides. The gadget was one of the first Full HD smartphones (Sharp and OPPO were still ahead of the company), it received a 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz, 2 GB of RAM memory, dust and moisture protection IP55/57 and a 2300 mAh battery. During testing, the smartphone made a positive impression on us: fresh design, high-quality camera, powerful hardware, good autonomy and real water protection. The only thing that upset me was not the brightest screen, the TFT-panel was inferior to IPS and AMOLED of that time in many parameters.

Together with the Xperia Z, the Japanese showed another flagship - the Xperia ZL. This model was deprived of dust and moisture protection, contacts for the docking station, equipped with a color backlight, an infrared port, a camera button was added and the front camera was moved down. Also, the Xperia ZL has no glass on the back, and the body is slightly more compact with the same screen diagonal (7 mm shorter and 1 mm narrower). It was the compactness that became the main advantage of the Xperia ZL, in addition, it was a little cheaper than other flagships of its time, although it had the same characteristics as the Xperia Z.

Another smartphone in Sony's lineup in the first half of 2013 was the Xperia ZR. It became the most secure of the trinity of the first Xperia Z (IP55 / 58), but received a smaller and smaller 4.55 "HD screen. The amount of internal memory was also reduced, it became 8 GB. However, using a screen with a low resolution is positive affected performance, and compact dimensions were perceived as an advantage in early 2013. However, the screen that fades when tilted - the trouble of all early "zetok" - did not bypass this model either.Plus 8 GB of memory, of which 5 GB is free, and the ability to install software only on the built-in memory - an unpleasant mix.It's sad that the ZR became a "dead-end branch of evolution" and left no offspring (the Japanese A-series does not count: all subsequent models were based on the Z* Compact).

Announced at the beginning of the summer, this phablet has become a cult device. All thanks to the giant 6.44 "screen, which made the Xperia Z Ultra one of the largest smartphones in history. The incomprehensible "under-tablet and over-phone" bribed users with impressive performance (the first smartphone on the Snapdragon 800 is the same!), Thin (6.5 mm) and a beautiful case made of quality materials (albeit with imperfect assembly) and, of course, a huge screen that turned the scenarios of using the gadget.It is impossible not to note the problems with the screen sensitivity, the lottery with the type of display (which began in the first Xperia Z and culminated in the Xperia Z1 ) and an 8-megapixel camera of mediocre quality (Sony probably thought it was making a tablet, and put the corresponding camera.) From the above-mentioned characteristics, we note 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, a 2-megapixel front camera and a 3000 mAh battery.

In addition to the Xperia Z Ultra, which teetered on the edge between smartphones and tablets, Sony also made a full-fledged tablet - Xperia Tablet Z. It received a 10.1 "screen with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels, 8.1-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras, Snapdragon S4 Pro processor , 2 GB of RAM and 16/32 GB of ROM, a stylish 6.9 mm thick case and a 6000 mAh battery.It became the best Android tablet of its time, combining excellent design, lightweight body and powerful stuffing. The only serious competitor of the tablet was the iPad 4 .

Eight months after the Xperia Z, the Japanese company showed off a seriously improved version of its flagship, the Xperia Z1. He, like the Xperia Z Ultra, received a Snapdragon 800 chipset, a 2-megapixel front camera, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. The 20.7-megapixel camera with an Exmor RS sensor and G Lens optics made the Z1 one of the best camera phones of its time, so the company installed exactly the same cameras in the Z2, Z3 and even Z3+. The 3000 mAh battery made the Z1 a long-lived flagship. Sony has stripped the headphone jack plug, but kept the Xperia ZR water-resistant (IP55/58). The smartphone was delivered to different regions with completely different displays (of course, these were always 5 "Full HD panels, but the technology and even the manufacturer differed from country to country, from batch to batch), and almost all of them could not boast of good viewing angles , fading at slight inclinations.In all other respects, the display was good, and in general the Xperia Z1 was one of the best smartphones of its time.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact/Xperia Z1 f in Japan (review)

Initially announced by the Japanese operator DoCoMo, the device made a lot of noise: is it possible that among the many Android-shovels there will be a small, but really flagship? There were enough crafts with the names "S3 mini", "One mini" on the market, but the Z1 Compact did not stand on a par with them. It really was a flagship: with a 20.7-megapixel camera, Snapdragon 800 chipset inside, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, IP55 / 58 protection and a 2300 mAh battery! In this model, Sony managed to fix problems with the screen, as well as further improve autonomy. The only thing the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has been criticized for a lot is the wide bezels around the 4.3" HD screen and the plastic back on the international model, as opposed to the glass on the Japanese version.

Sony Xperia Z1S

Yes, yes, yes, there was such a model. But only in the US and only with T-Mobile. It was announced along with the Xperia Z1 Compact (namely Compact, not f), so no one noticed its announcement. Yes, and there are very few differences from the Z1 - a plastic frame instead of a metal one, a different microphone shape on the back of the case and twice the amount of internal memory - 32 GB, as in Japan, and not 16 GB.

The third generation of "zetok" was already shown at MWC 2014, but the release was postponed more than once, and the smartphone reached the Russian shelves only by May. The smartphone received a 5.2 "Full HD screen, a 20.7-megapixel camera, a Snapdragon 801 chipset, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM, IP55 / 58 protection and a 3200 mAh battery. Some smoothness and streamlining that appeared in the Xperia Z1, here were stopped, and buyers saw OmniBalance in its original form.For the third time in a row.It was getting annoying, but did we know then what would happen next?Sony refused to wrap smartphones with protective films, finally equipped the flagship with a high-quality display, achieved two days However, the Z2, like the Z1, was one of the most balanced smartphones of its time - it didn’t have a 4-megapixel camera or a band-aid-style cover, and autonomy still remained a serious trump card.

Sony Xperia ZL2/Xperia Z2a in Taiwan

For some reason, it was not the Xperia Z2 that became part of the summer collection of 2014 of the Japanese operator au, but its incomprehensible surrogate called ZL2, later released as Xperia Z2a in Taiwan and never appeared anywhere else. Why was it necessary to reduce the screen to 5 ", the battery to 3000 mAh and at the same time reduce the resolution of the front camera by seven times (from 2 megapixels to 0.3 megapixels), without changing anything else in the flagship - it is not clear. However, this is exactly what the Xperia ZL2 came out with, which became the latest in the line of "slightly reduced flagships" Sony.

The sequel Xperia Tablet Z received the same hardware as the Xperia Z2: Snapdragon 801 chipset, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. The rest was inherited from the first Z-tablet: a 10.1" screen with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels, a 6000 mAh battery, 8-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras. the most pleasant impression after the first acquaintance, and detailed testing of the Z2 Tablet did not take place.

If the Xperia Z2, similar to the Z and Z1, was only somewhat alarming, then the fourth consecutive flagship that was identical in appearance was already disappointing in many ways. And in terms of technical characteristics, there were very few changes compared to the Xperia Z2: minus 100 mAh from the battery, plus 300 MHz to the processor, a slightly thinner case and more advanced protection (IP65 / 68). The camera no longer seemed as high quality as it used to be, because competitors were not standing still, and Sony added only a few software chips over the year. The screen became even brighter, which, coupled with a smaller battery, hit autonomy. However, the Xperia Z3 has become one of Sony's best-looking smartphones, with a sleek, polished design that's not without build quality and software issues.

This smartphone has become a successful continuation of the Xperia Z1 Compact. Excellent design, flagship performance, a larger screen in the same body size, good autonomy - all this determined that the Z3 Compact became the best-selling smartphone in the entire Xperia line. The smartphone had the same camera as the Xperia Z3 - the smartphone had no competitors. Recall that the device received a 4.6" IPS screen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, 20.7-megapixel and 2.2-megapixel cameras, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, a 2600 mAh battery and software protection. IP65/68 standards.

Sony Xperia Z3v

The American operator Verizon released not the usual Xperia Z3, but the improved Z3v. He received better optics, 32 GB of internal memory, increased to 3200 mAh battery and support for wireless charging. Well, the design has been changed, as far as this phrase is generally acceptable for use within the Xperia Z line: the smartphone looks more like the Xperia Z2 / Z4 than the Z3. Take a closer look at the speakers on the front panel.

Sony's mobile division loves long names (remember the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro), and among the Z-series, the compact tablet from last year turned out to be the leader. It did not become as flimsy as the Xperia Z2 Tablet, it was built better. We remind you of the characteristics: 8 "Full HD-screen, Snapdragon 801 chipset, 8-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras, 3 GB of RAM and 16/32 GB of internal memory, 4500 mAh battery, IP65 / 68 protection, 6.4 mm thick case The tablet can still be considered one of the best compacts on the market.

Releasing the fifth identical outwardly flagship in a row and again not offering any breakthroughs inside, Sony realized that it was no longer necessary to sort through the numbers, and simply added a plus sign to the name - they say, yes, this is not a new flagship, but just a slightly modified old one. The case has become even thinner, the screen is even brighter and better, the battery is even smaller. The main problem of the smartphone was heating, which was critical for the Snapdragon 810 even in the all-plastic G Flex 2, and even more so, it made it possible to forget about comfortable active use. Recall the characteristics of the controversial flagship: 5.2 "Full HD screen, 20.7-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory, IP65 / 68 protection, 2930 mAh battery.

Sony Xperia Z4v

If the differences between Z3v and Z3 were completely insignificant, then Z4v should have become a heavily shoveled Z4. Why "should"? Because it took so long to finalize the first Xperia Quad HD smartphone that the company announced the Z5, and the Z4v didn't make any sense and was cancelled. The smartphone was supposed to get a 3000 mAh battery, support for wireless charging, a design that was noticeably different from the Z3 + / Z4 and a 5.2 "Quad HD screen. All other characteristics were supposed to be the same as in the regular Xperia Z4, that is, the Z3 +.

The latest Sony tablet, in addition to the new processor and front camera borrowed from the Z3 +, boasts another improvement - a display with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels, which Sony tablets did not have before the Z4 Tablet. The tablet inherited from the previous two Xperia Tablets has a 6000 mAh battery and an 8-megapixel rear camera. The tablet is even thinner and lighter than its predecessors (6.1mm and 390g) and has smaller bezels.

The fifth series was the last in the history of Sony Xperia Z, in a recent commentary, representatives of the company called it "the culmination of Xperia Z". Sony said it was finally moving away from OmniBalance, but essentially its new Sense of Unity design language was not much different from it. For the first time since the Xperia Z1, the company has added a new camera sensor, but the quality of shooting has not improved. The design, although generally boring, was great, and small improvements slightly diluted the bored outlines. Alas, ergonomics suffered from protrusions protecting the screen and the transfer of power and volume buttons. A fingerprint scanner appeared in the sidebar, the implementation of which raised questions. Water protection remained on paper, but immersing smartphones in water was no longer recommended. In addition to the improved camera mentioned above and the battery reduced to 2900 mAh, the Z5 differed in performance from the Z3 +.

Mini-flagships from Sony have always turned out well, although all the diseases that the Z5 had, the Z5 Compact also had. But this smartphone turned out to be cheaper, it does not have and had no analogues, so the device was forgiven a lot. The specifications of the smartphone included a 4.6" HD screen, 23 MP and 5 MP cameras, Snapdragon 810 chipset, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory, a 2700 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner. Progress compared to the Z3 Compact was insignificant , but the price increase was quite noticeable.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium (comparison with LG V10 and Samsung Galaxy Note 5)

The first Sony smartphone with the "Premium" suffix received two controversial premium features at once: a mirrored back surface that collects scratches and hides fingerprints, as well as a 4K screen that works at full power (more precisely, at full resolution) only when playing photos and video, and the rest of the time it is engaged in upscaling pictures from 1920x1080 pixels. In addition to them, he received the same imperfect camera, protruding sides, a boring design (although the Z5 Premium looked really chic in chrome), water protection without guarantees, a Snapdragon 810 chipset, a 5.5" IPS display, a 3430 mAh battery and 32 GB of built-in memory.

This was the Xperia Z line and this is how we will remember it forever. Despite a number of frankly dubious products and experiments, many devices will be remembered by users as the best in their class and one of the best on the market. Which of the twenty-one Sony Xperia Z reviewed today do you like / like the most?

Xperia Z2?

Just six months after the water-resistant Xperia Z1 was born, we are witnessing the birth of a near-replica of the firstborn, but with a few improvements. We will try to consider the features of the Sony Xperia Z2 and evaluate whether it is necessary to change the previous model to a more modern version.

DESIGN

My friends constantly repeat that the smartphone that I take out of my bag is not small at all. Why from a bag and not from a pocket? Yes, it's very simple - this device simply does not fit in your pants. And what do you want, because the screen with a diagonal of 5.2”, a slippery glass look and thin sides... Obviously, the smartphone is clearly not designed for small female palms. To control a gadget, for example, in the subway, one hand is clearly not enough, you have to use the second one, which is not always possible.
Despite the immodest dimensions, the elegance of the novelty is definitely not to be denied. The device can be safely called solid, high-status, solid - all this will be true. Compared to the predecessor Z1, not much has changed: a catchy metal strip appeared on the ends, the edges began to stand out noticeably, the memory card slots changed places with the SIM card slot. If you forget about these little things, then it will be almost impossible to distinguish Z2 from Z1.

SCREEN

The output device in the updated flagship is noticeably prettier. The diagonal has increased from 5 to 5.2 inches while maintaining the same resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. The pixel density has slightly decreased, but it is completely impossible to discern this circumstance.
Unlike the TFT-type Z1, the new smartphone uses a high-quality IPS screen, which has significantly improved many display parameters: excellent contrast ratio, high brightness, wide viewing angles and color accuracy. Thanks to the implementation of the manufacturer's proprietary technologies X-Reality Engine and Triluminos display, the screen is truly worthy of the flagship title.
However, there are some features. On the Z2 display, the picture looks much warmer, and the red bias is impossible not to notice even with the naked eye. Some people may like these tones, others may not. As it seems to me personally, the image has become too festive. For example, I did not like watching TV shows in this design, although the general interface and content of the browser make a very good impression.
And the main "trump card" of the Z2 display relative to the Z1 is the lack of a protective film, which wore out rather quickly in the previous smartphone. The novelty has glass with scratch protection and an oleophobic coating. On such a screen, scratches are unlikely to appear, fingerprints remain on the glass for a long time and are easily erased, of course, if you do not keep the device in a bucket of nails. In addition, you can control the device with gloves, which of course does not make sense in the warm season, but it can come in handy in frosty winters.

FILLING

Sony Xperia Z2 was created according to the traditional methods for the market: everything is the same as before, but a little better. Instead of the quad-core Snapdragon 800 on the updated flagship, a new-generation Snapdragon 801 processor was installed with an increased frequency of the Krait 400 cores to 2.3 GHz (compared to 2.2 GHz). The Adreno 330 is still responsible for rendering graphics, but the amount of RAM has grown from 2 to 3 GB.
The upgrade slightly improved the results in synthetic tests (for example, AnTuTu), which were previously at a high level. Simple user experience confirms the findings of performance measurement software. The smartphone reboots much faster, and everything appears on the display a little faster.

CAMERA

If we approach the evaluation of the Xperia Z2 camera in terms of the quality of the built-in lens and sensor, then everything is the same here: the maximum resolution of the matrix is 20.7 MP, and the lens is 1 / 2.3 ", the same optical system and flash. However, paying attention to software, we will see significant progress.The most famous of the innovations is that it is now possible to shoot ultra-high resolution videos up to 2160p at 30fps.So we can already enjoy 4k quality on mobile.Of course, this is very cool , but whether someone needs it is a big question ...
Another nice improvement is SteadyShot, a fundamentally upgraded image stabilization that actually helps to reduce motion blur and motion shaking. A very useful feature, especially on the go or when shooting at night.
Camera settings can be left to the built-in machine, or set up as you wish. You can change ISO, white balance, and many other settings. Fans of working with photos have access to a wide variety of effects, artistic filters, and scene modes. In other words, the scope is considerable and photo connoisseurs will have something to do.
It has become much more convenient to use the mechanical camera call button, which is located on the right side. The designers slightly increased its size relative to its analogue on the Z1, making it very easy to find the button. You don't even have to unlock your phone to take a photo, just hold down the camera's power button and then press the second button to take a picture.

CONNECTION

Almost all flagships of 2014 support 2G, 3G and 4G networks, in addition, they operate at frequencies of 800/850/900/1800/2100/2600 and LTE, and Sony's flagship is no exception. The Xperia Z2 uses a very convenient SIM card installation mechanism: on the left end, under the cover, you can see a small tray that you can pick up with your fingernail, install the card and return everything to its previous state. No covers need to be opened, no buttons have to be pressed or staples have to be used. True, after any manipulations with SIM cards, the phone reboots automatically, but this is not such a significant inconvenience.
As expected, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as NFC and DLNA. To date, DLNA has not yet become widespread, but the use of NFC really saves a lot of time pairing various gadgets like smart watches, wireless speakers, etc.

ALL PLEASANT THINGS

About the regular sound of the Sony Xperia Z1, you can only say pleasant things, which is even more true for the Z2. Now the speakers are located on the front panel of the device and sound really in stereo mode, and the sound is directed at the user, and not somewhere else. It is convenient to use a smartphone to listen to audio without using headphones, and you don’t even need to turn the volume up to maximum.
Another feature that other flagships cannot boast of is dust and water resistance. The protection of the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone is certified according to international standards at the level of IP58. The gadget can be in water at a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. Such opportunities allow it to be used completely for previously unthinkable purposes. For example, owners can take underwater pictures with a slight immersion in water. You can forget about the safety of the device during rains or slush. As for me, I can finally take my phone with me to the bathroom, where I can watch my favorite TV shows with pleasure. Simply gorgeous!
The OS is the latest version of Android 4.4.2, which is called KitKat. Unlike the "naked" android, the design of the gadget uses elegant icons, branded widgets and a special package of pre-installed programs. In comparison with the previous flagship, the interface of the novelty has not changed much.

BATTERY

The capacity of the "energy storage" of the Xperia Z2 compared to the Z1 has grown by 200 mAh to the level of 3200. According to the manufacturer, the battery life without recharging for the novelty is 740 hours in standby mode, up to 120 hours in music listening mode and up to 19 hours of talking on the phone (in 3G networks).
Of course, the reality is somewhat different from the laboratory conditions, but Z2 really lasts longer than its predecessor. If, with the active use of Z1, it was discharged by the end of the day, then Z2, with a similar operation, will last until the end of the second day. Competent optimization of energy consumption played an important role here.

RESULTS

The Sony Xperia Z2 is certainly a very advanced, fast and tech-packed smartphone. I think that the owners of the first Z1 series should not rush to the store for a new thing, but for those who did not have such a device, it is really worth appreciating the charms of a waterproof and powerful gadget. The filling and functionality of the smartphone meet the latest innovations in the field of mobile devices, and Z2, of course, will be relevant for a long time to come.
