Another thing is if you have to deal with different phones or you want to connect to an operator in another country. The third SIM card format will definitely add even more confusion.
The new Lightning port is here to stay, according to Apple. The already outdated 30-pin connector was used for about 10 years. Lightning offers 80% smaller size, the ability to insert it into the phone in any direction, higher reliability and adaptation to higher-speed interfaces in the future. Today, he continues to work with the same USB speed 2.0, like the old one. When the cable falls into the hands, its diminutiveness and cute design immediately catches the eye.
A huge number of accessories have been released for the iPod and iPhone that use the 30-pin connector, and now they will either not work with the new iPhone or require adapters. The iPhone 5 has a CMOS sensor manufactured by Sony with the same diagonal of 1/3.2 inches, the resolution remains the same - it's 8 megapixels. As in the iPhone 4 and 4s, the sensor is based on the backside illumination architecture. It allows you to take good photos in low light. There are additional electronic circuits on the sensor chip, their task is to “release” excess photoelectrons, which can provoke noise.
The phone's very slim thickness is the result of two small changes - a thinner screen with a built-in touch layer, and a more compact camera module.
As you remember, in iPhone 4s the company switched to a lens with five lenses made of Zeonex optical polymer. The iPhone 5's camera is thinner thanks to an optimized lens design. Also now the module is protected sapphire glass. It perfectly transmits visible light, and is also very resistant to scratches. In everyday life, you will not scratch it with anything other than a diamond. Apple has placed particular emphasis on the matrix's hybrid IR filter. It allows you to cut off the light of unnecessary parts of the spectrum, not to take them into account when focusing and selecting the correct white balance. The result is even more natural color reproduction.
The front camera is built on a sensor manufactured by OmniVision, which, like Sony, is a pioneer in the development of the promising and already pleasing BSI architecture. The resolution of the front camera was raised to 1.2 megapixels - a noticeable difference from the 0.3-megapixel view. The front camera can also record HD videos. Along with this, the iPhone 5 photomodule received an improved noise reduction system that takes into account the environment of “noisy pixels”. For example, the algorithm will grab and remove one green pixel in the texture of the blue sky as unacceptable in content. The algorithm distinguishes between textures and homogeneous surfaces.
Panoramic shooting appeared only in iOS 6, although the function has already been used on iPhones with jailbreaks since iOS 5.1. Panorama with one touch - far from new feature, it has been available on Sony mobile phones and cameras since 2008. Chips and scratches are noticeable on both the white and black models, but on the latter, due to the black coating, they are much more visible. Rear part at the same time, it is quite resistant to damage and does not cause any particular complaints.
But the most outrageous thing in this situation is the fact that almost all new iPhone 5 have chips and scratches right out of the box. Of the four phones that were unpacked in my presence, all had minor and not very minor body defects, which boiled down to chips and scratches on the polished edges. This suggests that Apple contractors also have a low production culture, and there is no thorough quality control.
However, if you don't worry too much about scratches or use cases, this is not such a significant problem, but in any case unacceptable for a premium brand and such an expensive phone. The situation is further complicated by the fact that it will be almost impossible to prove to the seller that you got such a phone out of the box.
The new release of the mobile OS from Apple does not pull on a large figure in the version. This is probably the first major release in which there are no major innovations. A lot of small tweaks and design changes are nice, but it feels like iOS development has stopped. Moreover, there are also extremely unpleasant moments.
Now Apple is actively getting rid of Google addiction. In 2007, when the first iPhone was launched, Google had no obvious ambitions to compete with Apple in the field of smartphones, and the union of the two companies seemed very organic and mutually beneficial. When Google began to want to compete directly with Apple, this dependence on the search giant began to become very dangerous. Gradually, Apple began to add the ability to select a search engine in the browser, switched to its own geolocation service, which determines the approximate position of the phone using signals from base stations and points WiFi access. And most importantly, a search is integrated into Google maps, which can more or less adequately find the desired objects. And of course Street View, detailed satellite maps and public transport.
Apple maps are technically quite good - vector technology, 3D buildings, low volume transmitted information and efficient caching. But the base map does not stand up to scrutiny. It's quiet horror. The cards were made based on the manufacturer's data navigators TomTom. And the POIs are drawn from various services like Yelp. As a result, we have a terrible mess with a lot of errors, a modest list of cities with poorly made 3D buildings, a limited list of POIs and the inability to get directions by public transport. There is also no Street View, and satellite maps are extremely poor quality. As for Belarus, it is a “blank spot” with a ring road and main highways. And you know what, the situation will not change in the near future. Not a single serious map manufacturer has a Belarusian map base, and its creation, apparently, is of no interest. The worst thing about this situation is that these maps are used by all applications in iOS. Many of them, such as Foursquare, Booking.com, AirBNB, become, if not useless in Belarus, then extremely limited.
If YouTube can be easily downloaded as a third-party application, then Google Maps is not available in the App Store and Google has no plans to do so at the moment. But even if the maps come out as a separate application, the built-in maps in the programs will still be from Apple. Whether the company will be able to make quality cards, time will tell, but now all users will face a lot of inconvenience.
All other innovations are nothing more than refinement of existing functions or “painting the booth”. If there is no significant movement forward in iOS 7, then this will be a sign that Apple has simply run out of steam in this direction.

Should you buy a new iPhone? Maybe yes. Is it worth it to stand in line and overpay with speculators - definitely not.

All this does not look good against the background of another fact: the iPhone 5 does not have any - I repeat, absolutely no - new software functionality. iPhone 4 brought a new level of interface detail. Of course, not everything is so bad. The increased screen area does not hurt the convenience of interacting with the software. Two months ago, the world learned about the resolution of the new display. Theoretically, today the entire gentleman's set third party programs must be upgraded to support larger screen. The reality is harsher: among popular applications, only every fifth, if not tenth, managed to acquire a full-fledged iPhone support 5. And through the Lightning connector, songs are poured clearly faster. So they will accept the round SIM card and the return to the old connector in the sixth iPhone with all their hearts. On a round SIM card, they will say, SMS is sent better. And the old connector is vintage and a return to Uncle Jobs' roots. True, people expected that Apple, following the newfangled trends, would noticeably increase the display, but they only met the expectations by increasing the display exclusively vertically, thus changing the format from 3:2 to the more popular 16:9. It is, of course, better than if the display did not increase at all (but then it would be completely incomprehensible why release a new model), but worse than if it increased more radically. However, I express only my own opinion. On the enlarged display, not all programs are displayed adequately. I, unfortunately, had very little time to test the camera. Apple claims that it has become better at shooting in poor lighting conditions - I honestly did not notice this. In poor lighting, as usual, the picture is very noisy, well, and often there is not enough shutter speed to take it off hand without "stirring". Nevertheless, it shoots very decently for a smartphone, rarely misses with autofocus (especially if you don’t fuss), the white balance is very good. What can I tell you about this? They do it right that they fit in: the headphones really turned out just awesome, I will definitely buy them for myself for use with android smartphones. EarPods have a very unusual shape: it turned out to be something between inserts and plugs. 
But the form is the form, but what about the sound quality? So, I don't know how they achieved this, but the sound quality for this type of headphones is simply amazing. I compared with all sorts of branded in-ear headphones of about the same price category(EarPods cost $30 in the States) - these headphones have much better sound quality: excellent volume, very clear high frequencies and absolutely wonderful bass for this format. If you also consider that these headphones are simply included in the smartphone package, you can take your hat off to Apple here: none of the manufacturers equips smartphones with headphones of this quality. The headphones are equipped with a control panel that has a built-in microphone, so this is also a headset. Listening to music on iOS is traditionally cool and convenient, so listening to music on an iPhone is a great pleasure.
Purely practical sensations are excellent: applications just fly, scrolling and other movements on the screen are incredibly smooth. Android before that, of course, is still swimming and swimming - in this operating system, the movements are much more angular. Battery life As before, the iPhone battery lasts for a full day of active use: all wireless networks, phone calls, browser, reading, applications, some video, play a little, listen to music, reference books are included. Moreover, for several days of such use, by the evening the battery showed a level of 30 percent, so there is still a certain reserve. Now according to the tests. They were conducted with auto-brightness turned on, but the brightness slider was set to 60%. (In general, iOS does a great job of automatically adjusting brightness, which also depends on the level set. But in android automatic the adjustment still works just ugly, I always turn it off.)
