There were also given the main codes of Emoji emoticons (about a thousand - for all occasions). If you have not read that publication yet, then I strongly recommend that you do this:

What do the horizontal (Japanese) character emoticons mean?

Initially, it so happened that most of the invented and widespread text emoticons had to be deciphered as if "tilting his head to one side." However, this is not very convenient, you must agree. Therefore, over time, their counterparts began to appear (also typed from symbols), which did not require virtually or actually tilt the head to the side, because the image created by the symbols was located horizontally.

Let's consider, what are the most common horizontal text emoticons:

  1. (joy) is usually denoted: (^_^) or (^ ____ ^) or (n_n) or (^ ^) or \ (^ _ ^) /
  2. in symbols are denoted as: (<_>) or (v_v)
  3. The following characters mean different things: (o_o) or (0_0) or (O_o) or (o_O) or (V_v) (unpleasant surprise) or (@ [email protected]) (means "You can be stunned")
  4. Emoticon meaning: (* _ *) either (* o *) or (* O *)
  5. I'm sick: (-_-;) or (-_-;) ~
  6. I will sleep: (-. -) Zzz. or (-_-) Zzz. either (u_u)
  7. Embarrassment: ^ _ ^ "or * ^ _ ^ * or (-_-") or (-_- v)
  8. Anger and rage: (-_- #) or (-_- ¤) or (-_- +) or (> __
  9. What does fatigue mean: (> _
  10. Jealousy: 8 (> _
  11. Disbelief: (>>) either (> _>) or (<_>
  12. Indifference: -__- or = __ =
  13. This emoji text expression means: (? _?) Or ^ o ^;>
  14. A value close to: (; _;) or (T_T) or (TT.TT) or (ToT) or Q__Q
  15. What does wink mean: (^ _ ~) or (^ _-)

  17. High five (means friend): = X = either (^ _ ^) (^_^)
  18. Love-carrot: (^ 3 ^) or (* ^) 3 (* ^^ *)
  19. Apology: m (._.) M
  20. Greed emoticon: ($ _ $)

Naturally, many blogs and forums have long been able to add emoticons in the form of pictures (from ready-made sets), but many still continue to use text emoticons, because they have already gotten their hands on this and there is no need to find the right one in the catalog picture.

If you want to know what a particular set of characters means, which is a text emoticon, then write about it in the comments. Maybe the whole world and we'll figure it out ...

Good luck to you! See you soon on the pages of the blog site

Koamoji - Kaomoji (顔 文字) is a very popular emoji style that consists of Japanese characters, grammar and punctuation. Used to express emotions in text messages all over the virtual world. The word "kaomoji" can be considered as a synonym for the word - emoticons because in fact it consists of two words:

"KAO" (顔 - "FACE") AND "MOJI" (文字 - "SYMBOL")

Creativity and emotionality Japanese people, is a defining factor in the popularity of using emoticons like nowhere else in the world. Also, Japanese is the language of drawings, where from childhood they begin to comprehend the writing of their hieroglyphs. Every line, point is very important. A prime example is “ Anime" and " Manga " where the authors convey different emotions in several lines.

It is believed that for the Japanese, the most important thing is the eyes. After all, they then convey the deep meaning of various emotions. This is how they differ from European emoticons, those to which we are accustomed, where more stands out mouth, i.e. smile. And the Japanese, as written above - eyes (◕‿◕).

Koamoji - Kaomoji very varied. Some sources report that there are more than 10,000 thousand of them, and this number can be explained as follows:

Usually, single-byte sets are used in Latin and Cyrillic characters, but for Japanese, at least double-byte character sets are required, which contain a wider range of characters. In this way,Koamoji - Kaomoji can display complex actions and even different stories, not just individual emotions.

Japanese kaomoji emoticons: positive emotions

Joy

In Japanese emoticons that depict joy (laughter, smile, pleasure, delight), the eyes are usually set high. The most commonly used characters are ^, ̄, ´, and `, but not always. The mouth also plays an important role. For example, young Japanese women often use the ω (omega) character as the mouth of their Japanese emoticons, believing that such kaomoji are the cutest, or, as they say, kawaii. You can also use ∀, ▽ and other symbols that resemble a smile. And the Japanese also like to add various special effects to kaomoji (stars, tears of joy, etc.) for greater expressiveness.

Love

Japanese love emoticons often use the ♡ (heart) symbol or combinations with it, such as ノ ~ ♡ (blowing a kiss). You can also use the chu set of letters to depict a kiss (in Japan, it is associated with the sound of a kiss). Another hallmark of Japanese love emoji is the abundance of * and o, which represent blush and are often used in combination with /, \, ノ, ノ, and ヽ. That is, these emoticons seem to cover their face with their hands out of embarrassment. In combination with the so-called "hands", the symbol ε (lips with a bow) is also used, but here the desire to hug and kiss is implied. Japanese women often joke that such kaomoji look like perverts!

Embarrassment

To show confusion, you can use the symbol; (something like a drop of sweat on the face) or symbols that imitate blush (*, o). Alternatively, you can try to depict a Japanese emoticon covering his face with his hands in embarrassment.

Sympathy

To express sympathy or compassion, you need at least two Japanese emoticons: one of them will be upset about something, and the other will calm him down. For the first type, you can use kaomoji from the "sadness" category. The key element of the second will be “soothing hand stroking” (ノ ”, ノ’ or ヾ) or “support shoulder” (see examples).

Japanese kaomoji emoticons: negative emotions

Discontent

Displeasure can be easily expressed by wrinkling the kaomoji's face. Hence the corresponding symbols. For the eyes of a disgruntled Japanese emoji, > < is a good choice. Additional wrinkles can be added by the # symbol. Eyes like ¬¬ and ̄ ̄ with a well-fitting mouth can also express some discontent. Similar techniques are quite common in anime and manga.

Anger

The secret to depicting anger with kaomoji is in the eyes. Use `and ´ or ` and ´. Just do not mix up the arrangement of the symbols, otherwise your evil Japanese emoticon will become kind and cheerful (compare: `´ - evil eyes, ´` - kind eyes). In addition, to depict anger, you can add "wrinkles" # and their stronger form メ or ╬, and as a hand - 凸 (middle finger) and ψ (like claws). You can also use the "angry grin" 皿 or 益.

Sadness

Sadness, sadness and tears are portrayed quite simply. For eyes, use T T,; ;,>< и другие символы, имитирующие заплаканные глаза японского смайлика. Также можно прикрыть глаза руками (например, / \ и ノ ヽ).

Pain

To show pain, use the symbols>< вместе со спецэффектами наподобие ⌒☆. Для изображения “оглушённых” смайликов можно использовать глаза типа “x”. Но также есть и другие способы.

Fear

For frightened Japanese emoticons, use forward and backward slashes and other characters to give the impression that kaomoji is covering his face with his hands in fear. In this case, you can also depict shouting, waving hands and other similar actions.

Japanese kaomoji emoticons: neutral emotions

Indifference

To show indifference with the help of Japanese emoticons, you can use imitation of the corresponding hand movements (┐ ┌ or ╮ ╭, as well as all kinds of connections with forward / back slashes and other symbols similar to hands). As "indifferent eyes", ー ー, ˇ ˇ and similar options are suitable.

Confusion

Use blank eyes ・ ・. To enhance the effect, you can add to them; or 〃. Also, in a similar bundle, emoticons are suitable for eyes like ̄ ̄. Finally, you can add effects like thinking (・ ・ ・), spreading your arms (┐ ┌ or ╮ ╭), propping your head up with your hand (ゞ).

Doubt

Doubt is easiest to show by taking kaomoji's eyes to the side. Use ¬ ¬, ¬ ¬ or arrows.

Astonishment

Surprise or shock can be shown with a wide open mouth (o, 〇, ロ), eyes (O O, ⊙ ⊙), and raised hands of the Japanese emoticon. You can also add the Σ symbol to it, which denotes a sudden start, or a tinge of confusion (the; symbol). In addition, when using eyes wide open, the mouth can be reduced (for contrast).

Japanese kaomoji emoticons: various actions

Greetings

To depict a greeting (or goodbye) using kaomoji, a forward or backward slash is used in standard situations. However, there are also more interesting options, such as ノ and ノ. And if you want a Japanese smiley to wave, try using ヾ, ノ ゙, and their various tilde combinations.

Hugs

To depict hugs, add the appropriate outstretched arms symbols.

Wink

The winking Japanese emoticons look very cute and very easy to depict. Just use different symbols for the left and right eyes of your kaomoji.

Apology

In Japan, it is customary to perform the traditional bow when expressing an apology. Therefore, the corresponding Japanese emoticons are depicted in this way. In this case, the eyes, as a rule, are lowered down (_ _ or..). If the bow is performed from a sitting position, m m are most often used as kaomoji hands; if from a standing position, instead of arms, it is better to depict the shoulders< >.

Hide and seek

If you want to show that the Japanese emoticon is hiding from someone or something, try to depict how it looks out from behind a wall | or other shelter.

Letter

The φ symbol looks good as a writing pen if you want to show how kaomoji writes something. You can also add some underscores or dots to show the actual result of the letter.

Run

Running emoticons are depicted by adding various special effects of movement. For this, the symbols ε, =, ミ and C are most often used.

Dream

Everything is simple here. Use zzZ to simulate snoring or snoring of a Japanese emoji. You can also lay it on the pillow.

[(--)] .. zzZ (-_-) zzZ (∪。∪) 。。。 zzZ (-Ω-) zzZ
( ̄o ̄) zzZZzzZZ ((_ _)) .. zzzZZ ( ̄ρ ̄) .. zzZZ (-.-)… zzz
(_ _ *) Z z z (x. x) ~~ zzZ

Kaomoji Japanese Emoticons: Animals

Cat

The Japanese consider cats to be insanely cute creatures. Hence, a variety of anime and manga fetishes: cat ears, ponytail, nyakan (nyaa - "meow" in Japanese) and other fun. Therefore, the most popular animal in kaomoji is the cat. To make your Japanese smiley look like a cat, use = = for whiskers and ^ ^ for ears.

Bear

Japanese bear emoticons are easily identifiable by their characteristic face (エ) or ears ʕ ʔ.

Dog

Here the whole secret is in the ears ∪ ∪ and the absence of the usual boundaries of the face of the Japanese emoticon (i.e., instead of brackets, the boundaries are the ears).

Pig

A pig's patch can be represented as (oo), (00) or (ω). Add it to a Japanese emoticon for a funny grundale.

Bird

For the bird emoji, use Θ or θ for the beak. This is the main idea.

A fish

Since fish and seafood are an integral part of the Japanese diet, emoticons have not been spared this topic either. The symbols used here<< или 彡 для хвоста и)) для жабр.

Spider

To depict a spider, use the / \ ╱ \ ╮╭╲ symbols for the legs and try adding some pairs of eyes.

Japanese kaomoji emoticons: other variations

Friends

To show friendship, just draw a few Japanese emojis holding hands. The symbols 人, メ, 八, and 爻 are best suited for this. There are other ways though. Try to find them.

Enemies

Here the term "enemy" is used in a joking manner. Just depict a Japanese emoji kicking their opponent or something. For more expressiveness, use the special effects ☆, ミ, 彡 and Σ. The eyes of unconscious emoticons are usually represented as x x. Everything else is creative.

Weapon

Rifle ︻ デ ═ 一, sniper rifle ︻┻┳══━ 一, shotgun ︻┳═ 一, minigun ✴ == ≡ 눈, pistol ¬, laser ・ ・ ・ ——— ☆, chain ○ ∞∞∞∞, bow D ・ ・ ・ ・ ・ —— →, bomb (((((((● ~ *, syringe ―⊂ | = 0, gas can 占 ~~~~~, yo-yo ~~~~~~~ ~~ ◎, boomerang ((く ((へ, spear ――― →, grapple ―――― C, sword _ / or ¤ = :::::>, boxing gloves QQ.

Magic

Even magic in all its variety can be depicted with the help of Japanese emoticons.

Food

The Japanese are very fond of drinking. Therefore, the rich variety of Japanese kaomoji emoticons could not fail to take this feature into account. It is for this purpose that the symbols 旦, 口, 且 are used. You can also use square brackets as a simpler option. And to show hot drinks (tea, coffee), just add ~~ (steam) to the corresponding symbols. In addition, with the help of kaomoji, you can depict food in a wide variety of ways (examples in the table below).

Music

Japanese emoticons are capable of very clearly expressing the musical aspects of life (singing, dancing, listening to music, etc.). To do this, add the ♪ symbol to the standard kaomoji or change the position of the hands (if you want to show a dance).

Games

The Japanese can even use emoticons to represent games and sports. Below are some examples: tennis, ping pong, volleyball, basketball, ball, boxing, kendo, fishing, bowling, video games. Try to determine for yourself where what.

What do the different smilies mean?

With smiley objects, everything is simple: they mean what they represent. A ball is a ball, an alarm clock is an alarm clock, and there is nothing to think about. But with smiley faces, the task becomes more complicated. We do not always manage to correctly guess the emotions from the faces of living people, let alone the physiognomy of the koloboks. There are emoticons, the meaning of which is obvious:

Fun, laughter, joy, jubilation.

Sadness, sadness, longing, discontent.

Playful mood, teasing.

Surprise, amazement, shock, fear.

Anger, resentment, rage.

And a few more similar ones - all possible options for families and romantic unions.

But there are some among the emoticons, the meaning of which can be interpreted ambiguously, or even bewildered:

This emoticon depicts a person sobbing at three - well, at two - streams, but in the version for Apple devices, due to raised eyebrows and a mouth that is not twisted from sobs, he is often perceived as laughing to tears. Be careful with him: you want to indicate grief to them, but they will misunderstand you.

This emoticon is intended to represent silence. Instead, he just scares to death.

If everything is more or less clear with the evil devil ("angry as devil"), then the cheerful devil is somewhat puzzling. Most likely, he is not only furious, but also anticipates how he will dance on your opponent's grave. And you, perhaps, just wanted to show originality and an unusual smile.

Despite the fact that the three wise monkeys did not see, did not hear and did not speak precisely because of their wisdom, these muzzles close their eyes, mouth and ears from shame, confusion and shock.

A set of feline emoticons for those who think that ordinary koloboks are not expressive enough and want to add sweetness to their emotions.

Instead of "hello" and "goodbye" you can wave your hand.

Hands raised, a gesture of joyful greeting or glee.

The applause is both sincere and sarcastic.

If in this picture you see hands folded in a prayer gesture, then for you emoji can mean "thank you" or "I beg you." Well, if you see the "high five!"

A raised index finger can emphasize the importance of the message or express a request to interrupt the interlocutor with a question, or it can simply point to the previous message in the chat.

Fingers crossed for good luck.

For some it is "stop", but for someone "high five!"

No, this is not a truffle. Not even a truffle at all.

Ogre and Japanese goblin. It seems that someone is missing the usual devils.

Lier. His nose grows like Pinocchio's every time he lies.

These are eyes wide open in amazement, and the shifting eyes of a rogue, and even a lustful look. If someone sends you such an emoticon in the comments to the photo, you can be sure that the photo is successful.

And this is just an eye, and it is watching you.

A young moon and a full moon. It seems to be nothing special, but these smileys have their fans who appreciate them for their creepy facial expressions.

A very common girl in purple. Her gestures mean OK (hands over head), “no” (arms crossed), “hello” or “I know the answer” (hand up). This character has another pose that baffles many -. According to the official version, it symbolizes the help desk worker. Apparently, she shows with her hand how to get to the city library.

Do you also see two tense faces here, presumably unfriendly? But they didn't guess: according to Apple's tips, this is an embarrassed face and a stubborn face. Who would have thought!

Where are emoticons appropriate?

1. In informal friendly correspondence

Funny yellow faces are appropriate in a personal chat, where you share not so much information as your mood. With the help of emoticons, you will laugh at a joke, sympathize, make faces at each other. This is where emotions really belong.

2. When emotions are overflowing and words are not enough

Sometimes, when something very important happens in our life, feelings overwhelm us so much that we are about to burst. Then we write an emotional post on Facebook or post a dazzling photo on Instagram and decorate it with a generous scattering of emoticons. Someone, of course, will not like it, but what now, stifle all the vivid sensations in yourself? The main thing is not to abuse such a public manifestation of violent emotions: it will alienate subscribers and question your adequacy.

3. By agreement to highlight a message in work correspondence

This is a very easy and convenient way to make important messages that require urgent attention visible. For example, it is great for these purposes. But you need to agree in advance which cases in your company are considered urgent and which smiley you will use for this.

It is important not to overdo it: if you have one emoticon for emergency messages, the second for urgent questions, and the third for important news, then soon all work correspondence will turn into a New Year's garland that no one is looking at.

When is it better to do without emoticons

1. In business correspondence

Work is not a place for emotions. Here you are required to be calm, collected and professional. Even if you want to emphasize your benevolence or express concern about a situation, use emoticons for these purposes.

2. When dealing with foreigners

This is especially true for emoji gestures. For example, someone you wanted to show your approval to will end your good relationship with someone from Greece or Thailand. Still, because with this gesture you sent him to hell.

Therefore, if you are not sure of your deep knowledge of the peculiarities of the national culture of your interlocutor, do not risk it.

3. Oddly enough, when you discuss feelings and emotions

Feelings are serious business. If you are not just chatting, but opening your soul or sharing something important, words will convey your feelings and experiences much more accurately than emoticons. “You are dearer to me than anyone else in the world” means much more than ten hearts in a row. In the end, you have only one heart, so give it.

Remember, emojis are a condiment, not a main ingredient. To give expressiveness to your message, you need very few of them.

Emoji language

Judging by the fact that today almost no personal correspondence is complete without emoticons, we can safely say that emoji have become an independent section of the language. Sometimes they even pretend to replace the language: you can write a whole message using only emoticons. The popular American TV show Ellen DeGeneres even has a special section in which guests are invited to read a phrase where part of the words are replaced with emoji:

And here is the encrypted name of the film, which we invite you to guess.

Hello dear readers of the blog site. The use of emoticons when communicating in chats, forums, social networks, when posting comments on blogs and even in business correspondence at the present stage of the development of the Internet is already quite commonplace. Moreover, smilies can be displayed both in the form of simple text characters and in graphic design, which adds a choice.

Graphic emoticons (emoji, or emoji), which we will talk about in more detail below, that appear in the form of pictures, are displayed by inserting the appropriate codes that have been specially added to the official Unicode table so that users can use them almost everywhere to express emotions ...

Thus, on the one hand, you can find in a special list the code of the emoticon you need to insert it, and on the other hand, in order not to search for the required encoding every time, it is quite possible to remember the sequence of simple text symbols reflecting the most frequently expressed types of emotional state, and insert them into the message text.

Labeling emoticons with text symbols

To begin with, in order to satisfy my perfectionist nature, I would like to say a few words about the history of the emergence of emoticons. After the great Tim-Berners Lee laid the foundation for the development of the modern Internet, people got the opportunity to practically unlimited communication with each other.

However, on the World Wide Web from the very beginning, communication was carried out in writing (and even today this type of dialogue is still very popular), and it is very limited in terms of reflecting the emotions of the interlocutor.

Of course, a person with a literary talent and the gift of expressing his feelings through the text will not experience problems. But the percentage of such gifted people, as you know, is very small, which is quite logical, and the problem had to be solved on a massive scale.

Naturally, the question arose of how to smooth out this shortcoming. It is not known for certain who first proposed text signs reflecting this or that emotion.

According to some reports, it was a well-known American computer scientist Scott Elliot Fahlman, who suggested using a combination of symbols for comic messages :-), in a different interpretation :). If you tilt your head to the left, you will see an essentially funny smiley face:

And for messages containing some negative information that can cause emotions of the opposite nature, the same Fahlman came up with another combination of symbols :-( or :(. As a result, if you rotate it 90 °, then we will have a sad smiley face:

By the way, since the first emoticons identified primarily the emotional background of the interlocutors, they got the name emoticons... This name comes from the abbreviated English expression emot ion icon- an icon with an expression of emotion.

Meaning of emoticons expressing emotions through symbols

So, a start has been made in this area, it remains to pick up the idea and choose simple signs of the text, with the help of which it would be possible to easily and simply reflect other expressions of mood and emotional state. Here are some emoticons from symbols and their meanings:

  • :-), :),), =),: c),: o),:], 8),:?),: ^) or :) - smiley of happiness or joy;
  • :-D,: D - wide smile or unrestrained laughter;
  • : "-),:" - D - laughter to tears;
  • :-(, :(, = (- sad smiley made of characters;
  • : -C,: C - smiles from the characters of the text, denoting strong sadness;
  • : -o, - boredom;
  • : _ (,: "(,: ~ (,: * (- crying smiley;
  • XD, xD - emoticons in letters that mean mockery;
  • >: - D,> :) - variants of expression of gloating (malicious grin);
  • : -> - grin;
  • ): -> or]: -> - sly smile;
  • : - / or: - \ - these smiles can mean confusion, indecision;
  • : - || - anger;
  • D-: - strong anger
  • : -E or: E - designation of rage with text characters;
  • : - | ,: -I - this can be deciphered as a neutral attitude;
  • :-(),: -o, = -O, = O,: -0,: O - these combinations of symbols mean surprise;
  • 8-O or: -, :-() - transcript: extreme amazement (shock);
  • : - * - gloominess, bitterness;
  • = P, = -P, :-P - irritation;
  • xP - disgust;
  • : -7 - sarcasm;
  • : -J - irony;
  • :> - smug;
  • X (- inflated;
  • : ~ - - bitter to tears.

By the way, some emoticons from characters, when inserted, can be displayed in a graphical version (this will be discussed in today's article), but not always and not everywhere.

What other classic text emoticons mean

Below I will give a number of simple symbolic emoticons that reflect the state, character traits of people, their attitude towards interlocutors, emotional actions or gestures, as well as images of creatures, animals and flowers:

  • ; - (- sad joke;
  • ;-) - indicates a funny joke;
  • :[email protected]- a cry of anger;
  • :-P, :-p,: -Ъ - show your tongue, which means licking your lips in anticipation of delicious food;
  • : -v - says a lot;
  • : - *, :-() - kiss;
  • () - hugs;
  • ; , ;-),;) - wink designations;
  • | -O - a surging yawn, which means a desire to sleep;
  • | -I - asleep;
  • | -O - snores;
  • : -Q - smoker;
  • : -? - smokes a pipe;
  • / - smiley, meaning the interjection "hmmm";
  • :-( 0) - shouts;
  • : -X - "mouth to lock" (means a call for silence;)
  • : -! - the meaning of nausea or an analogue of the phrase "from the heart";
  • ~: 0 - child;
  • : *),% -) - drunk, intoxicated;
  • = / - crazy;
  • :), :-() - a man with a mustache;
  • = |: -) = - "Uncle Sam" (this smile means a comic image of the US state);
  • - :-) - punk;
  • (: - | - monk;
  • *: O) - clown;
  • B-) - a man in sunglasses;
  • B :-) - sunglasses on the head;
  • 8-) - a man with glasses;
  • 8 :-) - glasses on the head;
  • @ :-) - a man with a turban on his head;
  • : -E - this set of symbols denotes a vampire;
  • 8- # - zombies;
  • @ ~) ~~~~, @) -> -, @) - v-- - rose;
  • * -> -> - - carnation;
  • <:3>
  • = 8) - pig;
  • : o /,: o
  • : 3 - cat;

If you wish, you yourself can invent emoticons by typing certain characters (letters, numbers or signs) on the keyboard. From the above list it is clear, for example, that using the number "3" you can depict the face of a cat, a dog (and also, say, a rabbit) or one of the parts of the heart. And emoticons with P stand for sticking out tongue. There is room for creativity.

Horizontal Japanese Emoticons (kaomoji)

Above were the classic emoticons, composed of text symbols, which are interpreted and take on the correct outlines only if you tilt your head to the left or mentally rotate such an image 90 ° to the right.

More convenient in this regard are Japanese emoticons, when looking at which a tilt of the head is not required, because it is immediately clear what each of them means. Kaomoji, as you probably guessed, was first used in Japan and consisted of both the standard characters found on any keyboard and the use of hieroglyphs.

Japanese term «顔文字» when it looks like "Kaomoji" in Latin. In fact, the phrase "kaomoji" is very close to the concept of "smile" (English smile - a smile), because "Kao" (顔) means "face" and "Moji" (文字)- "symbol", "letter".

Even with a cursory analysis of the meanings of these terms, it is noticeable that Europeans and residents of most countries where the Latin alphabet is widespread, when expressing emotions, pay more attention to such an element as the mouth (smile). For the Japanese, all the components of the face are important, especially the eyes. This is expressed in true (not modified) kaomoji.

Subsequently, Japanese emoticons became widespread in Southeast Asia, and today they are used all over the world. Moreover, they can consist not only of symbols and hieroglyphs, but are often supplemented, for example, with letters and signs of the Latin or Arabic alphabet. First, let's see what some basic horizontal text emoticons mean:

  • (^_^) or (n_n) - smiling, joyful;
  • (^ ____ ^) - wide smile;
  • ^ - ^ - happy smile;
  • (<_>), (v_v) - this is how sadness is usually denoted;
  • (o_o), (0_0), (o_O) - these emoticons mean different degrees of surprise;
  • (V_v) or (v_V) - unpleasantly surprised;
  • * - * - amazement;
  • (@[email protected]) - surprise has reached its maximum ("you can be stunned");
  • ^ _ ^ ", * ^ _ ^ * Or (-_- v) - embarrassment, awkwardness;
  • (? _?), ^ o ^ - misunderstanding;
  • (-_-#) , (-_-¤) , (>__
  • 8 (>_
  • (>>), (> _>) or (<_>
  • -__- or = __ = - indifference;
  • m (._.) m - apology;
  • ($ _ $) - this emoticon reflects greed;
  • (; _;), Q__Q - crying;
  • (T_T), (TT.TT) or (ToT) - sobbing;
  • (^ _ ~), (^ _-) - these variations of emoticons mean winking;
  • ^) (^, (-) (-), (^) ... (^) - kissing;
  • (^ 3 ^) or (* ^) 3 (* ^^ *) - love;
  • (-_-;), (-_-;) ~ - sick;
  • (-. -) Zzz, (-_-) Zzz or (u_u) - sleeps.

Well, now a few horizontal emoticons that reflect common emotions, made up of more complex symbols and signs, as well as their designations:

  • ٩ (◕‿◕) ۶, (〃 ^ ▽ ^ 〃) or \ (★ ω ★) / - happiness;
  • o (❛ᴗ❛) o, (o˘◡˘o), (っ ˘ω˘ς) - smile;
  • (´ ♡ ‿ ♡ `), (˘∀˘) / (μ‿μ) ❤ or (๑ ° ꒵ ° ๑) ・ * ♡ - love;
  • (◡‿◡ *), (* ノ ∀` *), (* μ_μ) - embarrassment.

Naturally, Japanese emoticons, which use not only service symbols and punctuation marks, but also complex letters of the katakana alphabet, provide more opportunities to express not only emotions through facial expressions, but also through gestures.

Let's say that a smiley has become widespread on the Internet, shrugging and spreading his arms... What does it mean? Most likely an awkward apology:

This emoticon appeared thanks to the famous rapper Kanye West, who at the 2010 Video Music Awards unexpectedly interrupted the presenter's speech, and then showed such a gesture, recognizing the incorrectness of his behavior (an emoticon that shrugs its shoulders and spreads its arms is called "Kanye's shoulders" became a real meme):

Graphic emoticons emoji (emoji), their codes and meanings

So, above we have disassembled symbolic emoticons, some of which, when inserted into social networks and other places, can acquire graphic outlines, that is, appear in the form of pictures. But this does not happen everywhere and not always. Why?

Because they are made up of simple text icons. To smileys are guaranteed to acquire the appearance of images after insertion, and wherever you put them, need to use codes, specially included in the official Unicode table so that any user can quickly express their emotional state.

Of course, any emoticon can be loaded in the form of pictures created in graphic editors, but given their huge number and the number of users on the Internet, such a solution does not look ideal, since it will inevitably negatively affect the bandwidth of the global network. But the use of codes in this situation is just the thing.

As a result, popular engines used for forums and blogs (for example, the same WordPress) have the ability to insert colored emoticons in their functionality, which undoubtedly adds expressiveness to messages.

The same can be said for various chats and messengers designed for both PC and mobile devices (Skype, Telegram, Viber, Whatsapp).

Just the graphic pictograms are called emoji (or emoji, which is more correct from the point of view of Japanese pronunciation). Term «画像文字» (in Latin transliteration "emoji"), which, like kaomoji, is a combination of two words, translated into Russian, meaning "picture" ("e") and "letter", "symbol" (moji).

I think the Japanese name for small pictures that appear in the text to display emotions, feelings and states is most correct, since it was in Japan that symbolic images were born that did not require mentally turning them over for correct perception.

As I noted above, any code emoji emoticon in the overwhelming majority of cases, it is necessarily interpreted into a picture in all possible places where you want to insert it, including, for example, social networks VKontakte, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Moreover, in different areas, the smiley can be displayed differently when you insert the same code from Unicode, corresponding to a specific value:

Another important point. By default, the emoji emoticon will be executed in black and white or displayed as a rectangle😀 (it all depends on the platform that is used at the place of its insertion). You can be convinced of this if visit the encoder and try to insert HTML codes corresponding to different emoticons in the field on the right:

Similar emoji will look like this in the browser. In order for them to acquire a color scheme, it is necessary to apply a special script that is installed on large popular services. By the way, in one of the latest versions of WordPress (I don't remember which one), emoji were enabled by default, but I had to turn them off due to a seriously increased one, which I try to constantly track.

So for small resources with limited resources, emojis are not always a boon. After disabling, when you try to insert emoji into the text of an article or comment, emoticons will just be present in black and white or in the form of a rectangle.

But in popular social networks, the use of the corresponding HTML code by any of the users initiates the appearance of a full-fledged emoticon. By the way, in the same Contact there is a whole collection of emojis sorted into categories. Copy this or that emoji you can from the Unicode table, located where the icons are scattered into sections:

Select the required picture from the "Native" column and copy it into using the context menu or Ctrl + C. Then open a page of some social network, forum, chat, even your e-mail in a new tab and insert this code into the message you want to send using the same menu or Ctrl + V.

Now watch a video featuring 10 emojis that you might not even know their real meaning.
