Download windows 10 for maximum performance. Disabling graphic effects

Squeezing all the juice out of your PC is a normal healthy thought of any sober-minded user who does not suffer from fanaticism, but knows what can be done better. You can ask the advice of "sofa experts" who will unanimously recommend a Core i7 6950, SSD on 3D Nand chips, a card of a level not lower than GeForce Titan X and other little things. But few people think of fine-tuning their own system and banal optimization of Windows 10.

What is to be done? It is essential to delve into your own system, namely:

  • do defragmentation;
  • optimize autoload;
  • disable third-party services and indexing;
  • remove unnecessary visual effects;
  • configure drivers and clean up space in the Temp folder;
  • check the system for viruses and other debris;
  • look into the body.

Laughter with laughter, and dust, debris and dried thermal paste on the CPU will greatly slow down performance + complicate ventilation inside the PC or laptop case. No software setting will save if the hardware burns out. Work hard every 3-4 months with a vacuum cleaner set to blow out air and a soft brush (no synthetics - fraught with static and failure of components) to clean the inside of the machine.

Be sure to lock the coolers with a screwdriver or your finger, otherwise the bearings may not withstand the increase in speed caused by a strong air flow, unless you have hydrodynamics, or a magnetic cushion. In any case, it's better to play it safe. But back to our sheep.

Defragmenting the hard drive

Not everyone has modern SSDs with static high-speed memory. Many have no idea what it is and use the good old HDD. Hard drives have a mechanical part in the form of a spindle on which the disk is mounted. All files are written to the latter, and reading is performed by special heads.

The bottom line is this: data is written sequentially (if the disk is clean) into special clusters, then they are also read out. But if you remove one or more components (programs, films, pictures, music), while freeing up selective clusters, then the subsequent recorded information will be saved fragmentarily (I found a free place - I saved my part there).

Imagine the following diagram: 11111, 222, 3333333, 44, 555555, 66666,777 – recorded programs and the space they occupy. After deleting "222", "44", and "66666" a few gaps appear. Next, we write down a new element - 88888888888. Will it come after "777"? No. It will try to fit itself into the gaps of previously removed elements. You will visually get something like: 11111.888 (3 parts), 3333333, 88 (2 parts), 555555, 88888 (other parts), 777. As you can see, access to the file "888 ..." is difficult, because it lies in different places.

Defragmentation turns the picture into this form: 11111, 3333333, 555555, 77, 8888888888 . The speed of circulation is higher - the speed has accelerated.

To execute the process, go to "This PC", right-click on the disk (C, D, etc.), click on properties.

We are looking for the "Service" tab.

Now the computer will become somewhat faster and more responsive.

Removing superfluous from autoload

This item applies to those who like to install everything in a row without removing the "extra" checkboxes during the installation process. Do not be surprised where you then get the elements of Yandex and Mail.ru from all the cracks. What exactly is autoload? These are services that start when Windows starts (Skype, uTorrent, antiviruses). At the same time, RAM and processor resources are “eaten up”. As a result, maximum performance is not guaranteed, since a bunch of unnecessary applications run in the background, pulling off some of the power.

We press the good old combination Ctrl + Alt + Del. In Win10, the functionality has been significantly expanded and redesigned, so we are not surprised and are looking for the "Startup" tab.

Near each object you can see the "influence on launch". If it is medium or high, and you have no idea why this is necessary, but do not use the program, disable it. Select with a right mouse button click and click "disable".

Disable unnecessary services and indexing

For games, speed is important, and Windows 10 support services “absorb” a good chunk of processor and RAM performance. This item is very slippery and we do not recommend getting into administration if you are not sure of yourself.

To enter the section, click Start and write in the search bar " services.msc". Press Enter and you will be taken to this menu (Services tab).

Disabling unnecessary services is a delicate process, but we recommend disabling Windows Search and Update centre. They heavily load both HDD and Internet traffic.

Making the system easier visually

Win 10 is far from the "seven" in terms of beauty, but some effects also take away precious resources, dragging them for themselves. The operation will be more in demand for owners of older PCs, although newer models will also stir up a bit.

First, go to This PC and click on System Properties.

We are interested in "additional parameters ...".

Here we open the "Advanced" tab, look for the "Performance" section and click on the settings.

It is necessary to achieve acceleration, so we put a marker opposite the best performance. Yes, the system will lose some of its beauty, but it will gain in performance, which is important for weak PCs.

After that, the key combination Win + I calls up another menu. We are looking for "Special Features".

Go to the "other options" submenu and turn off the system animation. The rest of the items are left.

Update and add the necessary drivers

Windows 10 is good because it installs all the basic drivers on its own, thereby activating the video card, network card (including Wi-Fi), mouse with keyboard, and more. The downside is that the system "picks up" standard controllers to provide at least some work, without caring about the originality of the software.

Complete with a laptop or key PC hardware (motherboard, video card, sound card) there must be disks with drivers from the manufacturer. Their installation significantly contributes to hardware acceleration, and the machine will work at full capacity.

If there is no disk, or there is no drive, go to the laptop manufacturer's website, look for the model in the "drivers and utilities" section, select the OS and download the original components.

After that, we recommend that you clean the Temp temporary system folder (located on the C drive, or on the one where the system is installed). In order not to delete anything manually, the developer has provided a special button. Go to "This PC", right-click on the "C" drive, select properties.

We are interested in the only button - "Disk Cleanup". Press it and clean the temporary contents. Do not touch the rest of the elements (downloaded files, cleaning updates).

Checking for viruses

The lion's share of software manipulations is completed. It remains only to use the antivirus. Opinions differ here: some praise Kaspersky, while others praise NOD 32, Avast and other products. The essence of the test itself. Don't count on the built-in "Windows Defender" - it will only help with obvious threats, nothing more.

Additionally, we advise you to “insure” products like Dr. Web CureIt and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The latter program works in a different mode: it looks for components that are “responsible” for pop-up advertising banners in browsers, opening tabs like “vulcan casino” and more. It also cleans the file with hosts if they were previously hosted by one or another Trojan.

Getting rid of dust in the case

The last tip is suitable not only for Windows 10, but also for all other operating systems, since we are talking about cleaning the case. With a PC, it's easier because the cases are easy to take apart and clean with a brush, vacuum cleaner and compressed air. Some users turn to the service station for help, because there is a compressor there. It's fast and convenient.

Laptops present a problem due to their design. Not everyone dares to disassemble a laptop in order to clean out the insides. Yes, Youtube is full of video instructions, but it is preferable to give the car to the service, where they will bring it to mind, change the thermal paste and bring it into a divine form. In the future, do not place the device on a dusty surface and use a stand with a cooler.

Cleaning should be done at least once every six months, if you do not want to get a huge dusty lump that acts like a fur coat for components. They will overheat and fail, and replacement is much more expensive than prevention.

Results

Although the tips smell of banality, nothing supernatural is required from users. You only need to dig deeper into the settings once, and in the future, monitor what you install, so that nothing extra gets into startup and does not change performance. And be extremely careful not to let Yandex into the system.

Not so long ago, the Windows 10 operating system got its start. Its main difference from previous versions will be that it will be the last one, although updates will not stop. As Microsoft announced in April 2017, the OS will continue to receive new updates in a timely manner approximately twice a year.

Despite the rapid development of the operating system, machines with installed Windows eventually become slower and slower, as they become clogged with all sorts of programs and files. If you use a computer or laptop running Windows 10, it is likely that you periodically visit the Internet resources in order to find all kinds of guides to speed up the operating system.

You may have found this information before, but it would be great to not only mention something new, but also combine this “new” with already known information so that you can always have a complete guide to improving the performance of your Windows PC at your fingertips.

How to speed up Windows 10

Method 1. Prevent programs from starting at system startup

Usually, most Windows users have a lot of applications on their computers that automatically start when the system is turned on. Basically, these are factory software installed by the manufacturer, and others, the autorun of which has not been canceled or it is included intentionally.

The decrease in performance is felt especially strongly when the computer starts, when it loads the desktop and at the same time tries to launch a lot of other applications. This significantly slows down the operation of the device, therefore, it is necessary to minimize the number of programs with autorun. You can turn off the auto-start feature with Task Manager.

If you are using Windows 7 or Windows XP, in this case, a good utility to disable autorun will be msconfig.

Method 2 Use fewer applications at a time, reduce the load on RAM (RAM) for better performance

Using multiple applications at the same time can increase your productivity if, say, you are a designer and need to open Adobe Photoshop with Adobe Illustrator at the same time, but this puts an extra burden on your PC. In most cases, the processor (CPU) does not suffer as much as the RAM (RAM), since RAM is the main resource used.

Try launching the Task Manager and check the memory usage in the tab Performance > Memory. If statistics show that programs load RAM, you can easily track down the guilty software in the tab Processes, which will allow you to improve the performance of your Windows 10 device.

Note: Make sure you don't reset an important system process.

Filling the system memory accordingly leads to a slowdown in the computer. Adding more RAM is one of the options that can solve the problem of poor performance, but this will come at a cost. A less effective way to help a sluggish Windows 10 system may be to increase the size paging file.

How to change swap file? Below is a detailed instruction.

1. Follow the path My Computer > Properties.

2. Select Additional system settings.

3. In chapter Performance click Settings and go to the tab Additionally.

4. In chapter Virtual memory click Change.

5. Uncheck the Automatic paging file size management for all disks. Select the disk you are interested in and enable the function custom size. Set the initial and maximum file size. Click OK to save changes.

Note: If you have excess memory, say 16 GB, there is no need to increase the page file size. However, disabling it is not an option worth considering as the computer may run into certain issues in this case.

Method 3. Check if your operating system is corrupted

Corrupted data can cause your Windows 10 PC to run extremely slowly and, in the worst cases, even crash.

One of the easy ways to fix corrupted data on Windows 10 is to run the System File Checker utility. It is likely that you are already familiar with it if you have previously used it in an attempt to recover your hard drive or USB drive. Fixing such corrupted files can certainly speed up Windows 10.

How to start System File Checker(System File Checker) in Windows 10?
To do this, use the command line and, having opened it, enter the following command:

sfc /scannow

This process may take some time depending on the size of your hard drive. Alternative way to run the above tool: My Computer > Windows Drive > Properties > Tools. Now click Verify.

Method 4: Scan your PC for malware

This should be the most anticipated item you could see in our article on speeding up Windows 10. All kinds of computer viruses have been around for decades, and the fear of how they can affect the operating system has led Microsoft to include antivirus software in the list of basic programs; it is called Windows Defender.

It is likely that some application disguised as some system updater or something else may be hiding behind the poor performance of your Windows 10.

You need to regularly scan your computer for malware using Windows Defender or any other third-party antivirus software, which will not only speed up Windows 10, but also avoid a number of other annoying virus-related situations.

Method 5: Shutting down and restarting Windows is not even an option. This is a necessity

Unfortunately, some users neglect this rule and their personal computers can be in an active state all day long, even if their owner is already sleeping for the fifth hour, forgetting that his device also needs to “Shut down” or at least “Reboot”.

Keep in mind that your computer can survive several days without restarting or shutting down the system, but this is not advice at all and does not mean that you should always keep it in working condition.

Restarting or shutting down the computer at certain intervals allows it to clean up system memory, which in turn is gradually consumed during operation, and kills all erroneous processes that opened automatically or due to a problem with the launch of any of your programs, which allows you to speed up your Windows computer ten.

Method 6: Prefer sleep mode on your PC

If you put the computer into sleep mode, it will take much less time to turn it on than if you start the system from a disabled state. This is due to the fact that the current state of the system, from the moment you last worked with it, is stored on the hard disk and loaded again when the device is started.

Let your PC sleep for a while.

Putting your computer to sleep is a common thing for any Mac user, as these devices are able to survive almost a month working in this manner. Now Windows users can use this mode more confidently by keeping their computer in sleep mode for long hours.

At the moment when sleep mode is active on your PC, only RAM (RAM) continues to do its full work. It will be important to note that even though hibernation puts the computer into a rest state, it still consumes a certain amount of battery power, albeit in small amounts. Thus, although it is energy-intensive, sleep mode allows you to speed up the system to a certain extent.

Method 7: Make your Windows as ugly as possible

Eliminate animations and all special effects.

Our modern PCs have an operating system in which the developers have tried to make everything look great, be filled with various animations and effects, because this makes the process of working with the device much more pleasant. All good things usually have another side - these visual improvements consume system resources sometimes more than we would like. Not all PCs have enough powerful components to allow efficient operation while maintaining all the visual amenities on the screen.

Sometimes it happens that users do not use their device properly; they install random apps and make a number of other mistakes that make their computer suffer.

Now let's see how to enable or disable animations in Windows 10?

In the settings, you can easily switch to the best performance mode by turning off all animations. Follow the path below:

My computer(right click on the icon) > Properties > Advanced system settings > Settings(In chapter Performance).

In the window Performance options select item Ensure the best performance. If it doesn't suit you, you can always ask Custom settings and enable/disable certain effects as you wish.

Turn off transparency.

Having a taskbar, a beautiful start menu, and a transparent action center can be pleasing to your eyes, but as you know, beauty requires sacrifice and, in this case, you have to pay the price of your computer resources. You can disable transparency by visiting Settings > Personalization > Colors. Click the switch in favor "Switch off" next to point "Transparency Effects".

Method 8: Make sure Windows always gets the latest updates

There are a lot of updates in the Windows working environment and new fixes are released with a certain frequency, which can be installed either independently or voluntarily when the operating system itself starts installing them. Keep in mind that keeping your PC up to date can improve the performance of Windows 10 in addition to protecting your device from unwanted threats such as newly discovered vulnerabilities by Microsoft.

Starting with Windows 8, Microsoft began to provide generic drivers for a huge amount of third party hardware. Updates for these devices are delivered through Windows Update. In case one of the third party devices does not support the driver provided by Microsoft, you will have to update everything manually.

If you're running the latest versions of Windows 10, updates will install much faster than they used to. The changes are due to the fact that Microsoft has optimized the process of updating the operating system and now most of the installation takes place in the background while the user goes about his business.

Method 9: Quick Launch Applications

This is one way to speed up Windows 10 in daily use. You can set your own keyboard shortcuts to launch applications in 1 click without having to search for them on the device.

Method 10: Prioritize Your PC

In the same performance window that we mentioned just above in point 7, go to the Advanced tab. There you can determine what exactly your computer will give priority to: programs that are actively used or services running in the background. This setting will help to significantly improve system performance according to your needs.

Method 11: Turn off cloud sync to speed up Windows 10

Windows 10 offers integrated support for the Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage service. You can save absolutely any data by simply uploading it to the cloud, where it will be safe even if for some reason the hard drive stops working prematurely due to a physical problem. Many users already have their own storage in Google Drive; there is a possibility that they will not be able to use the cloud from Microsoft.

If you prefer OneDrive and have sync turned on, don't forget about it. It will definitely consume the resources of your computer and slow down Windows 10. In fact, this may concern not only OneDrive, but also a number of other services.

To turn off OneDrive sync and speed up Windows, go to My Computer > OneDrive(right click on it) > Select storage folders to sync. In the next window, uncheck Sync all files and folders to OneDrive and press OK.

Method 12Use Fast Startup to Reduce Your Computer's Boot Time

One way to speed up the Windows 10 startup process is to enable the sleep mode feature, which is disabled by default. Fast startup (enabled by default) is another feature that reduces the startup time of the operating system.

You can check if fast startup is enabled on your computer by selecting Power Options > What the Power Buttons Do. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable to unlock the shutdown configuration. There you will see an option to enable or disable the Quick Launch feature.

Method 13Use ReadyBoost to improve Windows 10 performance

ReadyBoost is a Windows feature that can increase the speed of your system by using free space, the so-called caching. You can see a noticeable difference in system performance in a positive way, especially if you are using low-quality hardware. Keep in mind, ReadyBoost does not work with SSDs as they are faster than normal USB drives.

Method 14Disable Live Tiles

First Live Tiles was launched in Windows 8. This function in the Start menu or on the start screen provides the user with information about a particular application either from the Internet or from a local network. Unfortunately, like any other background service, it consumes computer resources, slows it down, and drains the battery.

Let's see how to disable Live Tiles in Windows 10 to increase system performance.

If you are using Windows 10 Pro, you can use the Group Policy Editor. Open in editor User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Disable Tile Notifications.

Otherwise, you will have to disable tiles for each application manually. Open the Start menu > right click on the pinned app's animated tile > More > Turn off live tiles.

Method 15Use High Performance Mode to Improve PC Performance

Mode High performance in power modes will allow you to get the most out of your computer. In this state, the processor can use its full potential.

Remember to plug in your charger when performing resource-intensive tasks.

Have you ever wondered why power users prefer desktops over laptops? One of the reasons is that they have a constant power supply, which greatly improves performance. In the case of a laptop, we recommend connecting the charger when you run games or use “heavy” software that takes up a lot of resources.

Method 16: Use the built-in troubleshooter

With the release of the Developer Update, Microsoft has provided users with a section for various Windows troubleshooting utilities. Visit Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

Here you will find options to fix errors related to Bluetooth, BSOD, audio, Windows Updates, keyboard and many other system hardware. Troubleshooting can make your Windows 10 PC run faster and without errors.

Method 17Improve app performance in Windows 10

If you're on the April Update, Windows 10 now has a new settings page that lets you customize advanced graphics settings for individual apps (both UWP and desktop). This can come in handy if you're running into performance issues with a particular application and blaming the computer, which isn't at all to blame.

open Settings > System > Display. Scroll down the window and select Graphics settings. On the next screen, select the desktop or UWP app you want to customize and click Add.

Now click on the application name and click Options. Here you can choose between different graphics settings such as Default, Power Saving and High Performance. The high performance setting allows the application to use the system's discrete GPU.

Method 18: Free up space on your system drive

The computer may run slowly due to a simple lack of physical memory on the hard drive. Make sure that there is enough free space on the system disk for the normal operation of the operating system. Free space must be at least 10% of the total volume of drive "C".

Free up space on the system working disk and clear the desktop of unnecessary items. Also, it will be much more useful in case of lack of space, reassign the user's document storage location to another logical partition. This will significantly unload the system disk.

You can move the following system user folders:

  • Downloads
  • The documents
  • Images
  • Video
  • Music

Method 19: Disable third-party Antivirus application

Antivirus applications greatly affect PC performance. If you do not practice visiting unverified or suspicious Internet resources, then third-party antivirus can be disabled for the duration of any complex tasks. Use the built-in Windows 10 Defender - Windows Defender.

Method 20Repair your computer

If all the previous methods have been powerless to help you, the last option to resolve the issue of poor system performance is system rollback. You can do this by visiting the section Recovery in the Settings menu. Reinstalling Windows 10 will fix all the mistakes made, and you will be able to fully use the working operating system again.

If necessary recover deleted files and folders, the recovery tools of Starus Recovery will help you. You can try and download data recovery programs for free from our Internet resource.

Whatever version of Windows is installed on the computer, the user will want to configure it to get the best performance. This issue is especially acute for owners of weak hardware, which requires a maximum of free resources for stable operation. Therefore, tuning Windows 10 for maximum performance for them is a great priority when buying new components, such as a processor or video card.

Disk Defragmenter

When adding a large number of files to the hard drive, information is not written sequentially, but in fragments on different parts of the disk surface. In this case, fragmentation appears, and during the request for data, the computer takes longer to process them, because it needs to put all the "pieces" together. To minimize these situations, perform a disk defragmentation. This is done with regular utilities.

Good to know! In Windows 10, disk defragmentation runs automatically once a week at a set time. But you can start this process after adding a lot of information to the computer in order to optimize the disk.

Important! In the "Optimize disks" window, you can enable/disable and configure automatic defragmentation.

Startup Optimization

In many programs, when they are installed on a computer, the autoload function is enabled during system startup. They may not be used by the user, but, working in the background, they take away computer resources, so its work slows down. Applications that you do not use should be disabled or completely removed from the computer if they are not needed.

Alternative options for disabling programs at startup can be viewed in the video.

Disabling unnecessary services

Just like startup programs, some Windows 10 services use up computer resources, causing slowdowns. Disabling them will increase system performance.

  1. In the Run window, enter the command services.msc.Alternative option: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services or open System Configuration (in the Run window, enter msconfig) and go to the Services tab.
  2. RMB > Properties > Startup Type > Disabled.
  3. When using the Computer Configuration utility, uncheck the required services and save the changes.
  4. Restart your computer.

Video

Watch the video to learn more about which Windows 10 services can be disabled and how to do it.

Setting up visual effects

In Windows 10, a lot of PC resources are used when creating the visual effects of the interface. Disabling some speed settings (visual effects) will increase the speed of older computers. But on modern gaming PCs, they will have less of an effect.

Turn off window and taskbar adaptation to the color of the desktop background, as well as Windows animation.

Indexing speeds up the search for files that are stored on your computer. But this function constantly scans them, tracks changes, and therefore uses system resources.

Important! Disabling indexing is only worth it when you do not use search on your computer.

Driver setup

One of the slow Windows 10 issues that a lot of users have is non-genuine or outdated drivers. This problem is especially relevant for the video card. Look at the driver vendor and version in Device Manager.

Cleaning up the Temp folder

The Temp folder in Windows 10 is used to store temporary and intermediate files created by the system and programs. Therefore, to speed up your computer, clean it up:

An alternative way is to use the built-in Disk Cleanup utility.

Power settings

By default, Windows 10 is set to Balanced Power Mode, which slows down the processor if the device is idle or not running at maximum hardware. To speed up the work, put the computer in the "High performance" power mode.

Cleaning of viruses and malware

If after following the above steps, the PC still slows down, and you do not understand why this is happening, viruses or malware are probably the cause. Check Windows 10 with antivirus programs such as DrWEB Cureit or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Conclusion

Setting your Windows computer to its maximum performance will help speed it up. To do this, you need to disable all visual effects, remove viruses, and also change PC settings: disable indexing and some services, update drivers.

The longer we work on the computer, the more and more it starts to slow down. This is due to the fact that during the operation of the computer, new updates of Windows and other programs installed on the computer come out, which may be more demanding on the system requirements of the hardware. Also, the computer is filled with garbage, various unnecessary programs and files that constantly gobble up free resources.

Today I will tell you how to speed up your Windows 10 computer, clean it of unnecessary junk and optimize it for stable operation.

Checking the hardware

First of all, you need to check that your computer or laptop can really run on Windows 10 without brakes. If your computer does not meet the system requirements, then it will be problematic to speed up Windows 10 on it.

Windows 10 minimum system requirements

CPU: 1GHz or more clock frequency

video card: Video adapter supporting DirectX 9 and WDDM version 1.0

Free hard disk space: 20 GB.

In principle, almost any computer on which Windows 8 or Windows 7 was successfully installed before fits into these system requirements. But it should be borne in mind that only the minimum system requirements are indicated above.

While working with a computer, you will install various programs, such as Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop, which will also eat up some of the resources.

Therefore, if your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements, then you should consider how to improve it, or install another version of Windows, such as Windows 7.

If your computer is powerful enough, then proceed to the next paragraph of our article.

We leave only the necessary programs in Windows 10 startup

There are a number of programs that run immediately after you turn on your computer and boot to Windows 10. Often, you don’t even need these programs, and you don’t even know their purpose.

For example, when you buy a laptop with a pre-installed operating system, the manufacturer installs about 10-15 different utilities on it (computer diagnostic tool, power adjustment, support program, and so on) that constantly work in the background and eat up precious computer resources. And while working on a computer, you install various programs that can also get into autoload, which you don’t need at all (for example, the uTorrent or Skype torrent client).

Our task is to leave only the necessary programs in Windows 10 startup. Everything else must at least be removed from startup, and if the program is not needed, then completely removed from the computer.

In order to get into Windows 10 startup, you need to open the task manager. To do this, press the key combination on the keyboard Ctrl+Shift+Esc or right click on the taskbar and call the task manager.

This will open the task manager for you. If it opened in a minimized form, then press the " more«.

«.

In this window, you can see all the programs that run immediately after turning on the computer. The "status" column indicates whether autoloading of this program is enabled or not, and the "startup impact" column indicates how much this program slows down startup and prevents Windows 10 from speeding up.

In the screenshot above, you can see that I have Snagit autoload enabled, which has a high startup impact. I don't need this program right after turning on the computer, so to disable it I right-click on it and click disable like in the screenshot below.

By the same principle, you should disable all programs that you do not use immediately after turning on the computer.

If you do not know the purpose of any program in this list, then you can search Google for its purpose, but it is better to just disable it right away. The fact is that by removing some program from startup, you will not harm your computer in any way.

The only thing you can harm is your comfort. It may be more convenient for you to start Skype when you start Windows 10. In this case, you can return to this menu and click "enable" on the desired application.

After disabling unnecessary programs at startup, restart your computer.

We remove various garbage on the computer

Have you noticed that the free space on your hard drive is getting smaller and smaller, even when you haven't downloaded or installed anything new? There is a way to increase free space. While working on a computer, Windows saves temporary files, update files, the history of the sites you visited, and so on.

By deleting these files, we will not only free up free space on the computer’s hard drive, but also speed up Windows 10.

You can use the excellent CCleaner program to clean up temporary files, but I will show you how to do it using standard Windows 10 tools.

Click menu Start and write " disk cleanup". Click on the found program.

Select the disk on which you want to clean up junk and click OK. In 99 percent of cases, this will be the C drive, because it is on it that Windows is usually installed.

The window that appears will tell you how much hard disk space you can free up. In my case, this is 1.86 GB.

Select all possible checkboxes and click OK.

After deleting these files, go to Disk Cleanup again, but this time click " clean up system files«.

In the window that appears, also check the boxes next to all items and click "OK" to delete.

Now you need to remove all unnecessary programs that are installed on the computer. Right click menu Start and go to Control Panel - Uninstall Programs.

Look carefully at the list of installed programs and remove everything that you do not use. Of course, it is better to search the Internet for programs that you are not familiar with first. You may have uninstalled a required Windows driver or utility.

Thus, you will remove unnecessary junk on your computer and speed up Windows 10.

Windows 10 Registry Cleaner

The slow operation of Windows 10 can be due to clogged errors in the registry. Registry errors are inevitable after improper removal of programs, installations and removal of many programs.

Manually cleaning the Windows registry is a thankless task, so the free CCleaner program comes to our aid. You can easily find a download link in any search engine.

Launch CCleaner and go to " Registry". Click the button Troubleshooting«.

When the program checks the system registry for errors, click the " To correct' and select ' fix everything«.

Installing drivers in Windows 10

It’s not bad to speed up windows 10 by installing the latest drivers on your computer. Fortunately, in Windows 10, updating drivers has become incredibly simple. Drivers for your computer devices are installed automatically during operation, but there are always exceptions.

Right click on the menu Start and select " Device Manager«.

In the Device Manager window that appears, all the devices on your computer are listed - a video card, connected mice and keyboards, a monitor, processors, and so on.

If you see a question mark icon next to some equipment or the device is written unknown, then you need to update the drivers for it.

Right click on the device and click "update drivers". Then select "Automatically search for updated drivers".

In case the driver needed to be updated, Windows 10 itself will find it on the Internet and install it on the computer.

Disable User Tracking Features in Windows 10

Windows 10, by default, reports user activity data to Microsoft. Of course, these data are allegedly anonymous and supposedly aimed at improving the product, but the point is that all these functions, in addition to violating your privacy, also eat up Internet traffic, which will only increase the load on the computer. We strongly recommend disabling user tracking features.

To do this, click StartOptions.

Go to the section " privacy«.

General- disable everything except the SmartScreen filter.

Location- disable everything

Speech, handwriting, and text input- disable everything

Reviews and diagnostics section- put the item "never" and "basic information"

I have listed only the main functions of spying on a Windows 10 user. If desired, you can also disable the access of some programs to the microphone and camera, as well as prevent the updating of some background programs (see screenshot below).

Disable apps in the start menu

Windows 10 has a colorful Start menu with tiles for a wide variety of applications. Do you use them? We'll talk about removing these apps in the next article, but for now, you can just disable them. Right-click on the unwanted tile in the Start menu and click "unpin from start screen".

Thus, the tiles will not be displayed and the computer will work a little faster. Computer overclocking is made up of little things.

Disable animation and sounds

On very weak computers, disabling animations and unnecessary sounds in Windows can give a significant increase in computer speed. On modern computers, this is no longer so noticeable, but still consider this point.

Click on menu Start right click and select partition System.

In the window that opens, click " Additional system settings«.

Select " Options" In chapter " Performance«.

Select "Ensure best performance" and click "OK".

After that, right-click on the desktop and go to the menu " Personalization» — « Colors". Disable the option " Make the start menu, taskbar and notification center transparent«.

You can also turn off the sounds of Windows 10 events. This will allow the system not to once again access the hard drive to play the sound of some kind of notification, for example, that updates are available.

To turn off sounds, right click on the menu Start, go to Control PanelSound.

On the Sounds tab, select the Mute sound scheme and click OK.

Now the system will not use smooth transitions, notification sounds, fading effects, animation on the taskbar and other amenities. It may not work as aesthetically pleasing, but you will notice a slight speedup in Windows 10.

Afterword

We looked at the main ways to speed up Windows 10. However, I have a couple more words about what is undesirable or even impossible to do.

  1. Do not use software, various Windows optimizers and accelerators. Such programs are not safe and will harm your computer rather than help speed up Windows 10.
  2. Don't disable Windows services unless you're 100 percent sure what you're doing.

Finally, I suggest you watch a few video tutorials on how to speed up your computer. Maybe someone will video will be more clear and understandable than the text in the article.

If you have any questions, be sure to ask them in the comments.

How to speed up Windows 10 if the computer slows down? Optimization Tips

"Ten" after a few months began to treacherously slow down? Do not rush to reinstall anything. In this guide, we will detail how to speed up Windows 10 on a PC or laptop without reinstalling.

Optimizing Windows 10: clean startup

One of the major obstacles that most often slows down Windows 10 are programs that automatically start with the OS. Because of them, the computer takes longer to load, and the overall performance suffers seriously. And the most interesting thing is that most people don’t even know about these programs: there is zero benefit, but resources are involved.

We described a lot of important information on optimizing Windows in our article “Optimizing the performance of the Windows XP system”

Disabling everything superfluous in startup is one of the reliable ways to speed up Win 10. What do you need for this?

How to understand what the system really needs to work, and what wastes memory? The easiest way is to google each of the "suspicious" programs: most likely, 90% of them you at least do not need. Often, autorun is full of unnecessary software from the PC or laptop manufacturer, hidden adware, or even spyware.

What can be turned off exactly?

  • Cloud storage(for example, in the case of the "ten" in autoload, OneDrive is automatically "registered").
  • uTorrent, MediaGet and other programs for download - when you need it, run them separately. In addition, the constant distribution of torrents fundamentally slows down Windows of any version.
  • Official Software, which was loaded by default when you installed your scanner, printer, or MFP. You are unlikely to use it, and the devices will work fine anyway.
To optimize Windows 10, we clean only startup, the programs themselves will remain on the computer. So any of them, if necessary, you can run manually.

Turn off services that load the system "idle"

Developers cannot predict exactly which services you will need. Therefore, the entire array is automatically started along with the OS. To speed up Windows 10 on a laptop or computer, it is useful to find extra services that you personally do not need and turn them off.

What to disable, and what is better not to touch? There are many lists floating around the web, but we will focus on those services that can be turned off with little or no risk. Let's start with the most "gluttonous".

  • Update Center - it is better to update the system manually from time to time.
  • Windows Search - if you rarely look for something on your computer.

These services can be safely removed if the computer is not connected to a public network:

  • KtmRm for the distributed transaction coordinator.
  • offline files.
  • IPSec Policy Agent.
  • Computer browser.
  • NetBIOS support module.
  • Server Network Service.

The antivirus has already taken over the task of these services:

  • Firewall.
  • Windows Defender.

These are useless in 99% of cases, but Windows 10 can slow down because of them decently:

  • Adaptive brightness control.
  • Helper service IP.
  • Secondary login.
  • Changed link tracking client.
  • IPsec key modules for Internet Key Exchange and Authenticated IP.
  • SSDP discovery.
  • Parental control (Parental Control).
  • Error logging service.
  • remote registry.

Leave these only if you use the corresponding devices:

  • Smart card.
  • Fax.
  • Print Manager - for the printer.
  • Image Loading Service (WIA) - for scanners and photographic equipment.
  • Bluetooth support service - hardly anyone else uses bluetooth.
  • Tablet PC Input Service - if you don't use handwriting.
  • Core TPM services - if there are no controlling devices based on BitLocker or TMP.

How to disable the service?

Double-click on it and in the window that appears in the line "Startup type" set "Disabled" / then "Apply" or "OK".

We carry out "cleaning" among the installed software

It is worth keeping on a laptop or PC only the software that you really need - removing unnecessary programs will significantly speed up your computer on Windows 10.

You will feel the effect immediately. The result in optimizing Windows 10 is especially clearly felt if the “junk” among the installed software has been decently accumulated. And this happens most often if you do not follow it separately.

Cleaning junk files from drive C (system)

In any OS, a decent amount of "garbage" system files is accumulated over the months of work. To speed up Windows 10, we recommend removing them periodically.

We clean the hard drive from unnecessary files (our own)

If you have a capacious hard drive of several terabytes, and there is still a lot of free space on it, you do not need this advice. But if the computer is old, and the hard drive is "full to the top", this can slow down Windows very much. If there is less than 20-30 percent of free space left, performance problems are almost guaranteed.

Of course, all this takes time, but with a small and cluttered hard drive, the effort is worth it: every 5-10% released will help significantly speed up the PC on Windows 10.

  1. How to get down to business? Slowly. Look through all the files on your computer: for sure you will find a lot of incomprehensible archives and folders that have not been opened for many years, a bunch of movies, heavy TV shows, old installers, etc. For convenience, you can sort everything by size: this way you will clearly see what “eats” more the whole place.

If you are not yet ready to change the hard drive, you will have to decisively remove everything unnecessary. Valuable, but heavy things can be partially "shove" on flash drives, external drives and various cloud services.

  2. Another Tip: Never Save Personal Files to Disk "FROM"- because of this, a weak computer on Windows 10 will slow down almost guaranteed. If something is lying there now, transfer the files to neighboring disks, for example, to "D". Don't forget about:
  • desktop (if necessary, it is better to create shortcuts),
  • libraries (my videos, my images, etc.)
  • and be sure to check your Downloads folder (it often has tons of long-forgotten files).
Don't forget to empty the Trash after all deletions!

Disk defragmentation (optimization)

It is especially good to defragment after you have cleaned up the “system junk”, removed some installed software, or manually deleted unnecessary files from the computer. This useful procedure restores the correct disk structure, which greatly speeds up Windows 10 on a weak computer.

If you nevertheless took the time to radically clean non-system disks (removed everything heavy, but unnecessary from them), repeat the procedure for them as well (D, E, etc.)

We clean the registry with a program to optimize Windows 10

If you are not an advanced user, we do not recommend "digging" in the registry yourself. It is safer to shift everything to a program that will do it for you. Consider the steps on the example of CCleaner, a popular free program for optimizing Windows 10. By the way, cleaning and defragmenting can be done in it.

Eliminate unnecessary load on the processor

Often, some completely unnecessary process is constantly running in the background, which is why the computer slows down a lot. To speed up Windows 10, it is highly advisable to clean up the task manager.

Optimizing your hard drive on Windows 10

If you have a regular HDD and not a high-speed SSD, do this.

The hard drive will now work better, and at the same time, Windows 10 will also speed up a bit.

Remove unnecessary tiles in the Start menu

The system automatically places a set of live application tiles in the Start menu. Come and see if you use them?

We recommend that you leave only the ones you really need, and select the rest of the rectangles with the right mouse button and select "Remove from the Start Menu". This is not a panacea, but still, Windows 10 will slow down even a little less.

Turn off tracking Windows 10

Yes, the "ten" really "spy" on our actions, regularly sending the collected information to Microsoft. The tracking function also consumes some system resources. To optimize Windows 10 on slow computers, it's best to turn it off.

When a speed boost is needed urgently: we remove special effects

Simplifying graphics

If the computer slows down too much, you can radically speed up Windows 10 by sacrificing "cool" graphics. Of course, the graphical shell of the OS will become quite simple, turning into something between the seven and the rare Win 98. But a serious performance boost on older computers is worth it - all the freed up resources will be directed in the right direction.

A particularly good result in terms of optimizing Windows 10 here can be expected on weak PCs and laptops with up to 4GB of RAM.

Now disable animation

Turn off menu transparency

This detail looks spectacular, of course, but it also wastes precious memory.

Remove system sounds

Another good method that will do its bit to speed up Windows 10. Don't worry, the sound on the computer itself will not go anywhere. Only notifications for various system events will be removed. You can easily do without them, but the system will no longer have to "torment" the hard drive in search of this or that sound file.

Windows 10 still slows down. What else can be done?

Here are some more helpful optimization tips that will speed up Windows 10 on any PC or laptop.

  1. Check your system for viruses regularly. Here are some great free antivirus programs:
  2. Make it a rule to always turn off your computer at night. If the system works non-stop for several days, it starts to seriously slow down - this is especially felt on weak computers. If Windows 10 slows down, reboot often, it really helps.
  3. Do not forget to clean your laptop or PC from dust 2 times a year - a computer clogged with dust heats up and runs much slower.
  4. Captain Obvious, but still. If the computer is weak, try to open as few programs as possible at the same time - especially those that heavily load the processor. It's better to take turns. This also applies to browser tabs.

Now you know how to speed up Windows 10 if it slows down. Well, if the system is completely “killed” and reinstallation cannot be avoided, be sure to take a look at our article “How to reinstall Windows 10”. And be sure to share your successes and questions in the comments!
