Recently, scanners have begun to appear more and more often, which not only do not have their own software for scanning (only the driver is installed, and for operation you need to use the standard Windows software), but also the physical button "Scan" on the body. This can make it very difficult to work with the scanner if you need to scan several documents at once.
If you need to scan, for example, an agreement or any other document consisting of several pages, then in this case, scanning turns into a living hell. Not only do you need to start scanning each time through "Start" - "Devices and Printers", but also for each individual page to set the same settings, which is especially inconvenient. But everything would be so terrible if it were not for the free Scan2PDF application, which does two useful things at once.

When you save a scanned image in JPG, you get a very impressive file size, which can be problematic or simply inconvenient to transfer without compression and processing. For example, I recently scanned two documents, each with one page. In JPG format, I got two files, each of which is 2.5MB. Yes, you could change the settings or process the files in the editor and get about 150Kb per file. But this is difficult and often inconvenient. In the case when I scanned using the Scan2PDF program, I received one PDF with a total size of only 340Kb.

Of the obvious shortcomings, I would note the absence of the Russian language in the interface during installation, although the Russian language itself is supported. Another drawback of the utility is the inability to work with several documents in PDF at once. Only one document can be scanned and saved. If you need to save scanned copies in several files, then the paper must be divided into stacks and scanned in parts, saving each one in succession.

Scanning from Acrobat accepts images in the 10–3000 dpi range. When you select the option Searchable image or ClearScan under PDF Output Style, the output image must be at least 72 dpi. In addition, the resolution of the output image exceeding 600 dpi will be reduced to 600 dpi or less.
Lossless compression can only be performed with monochrome images. To compress the scanned image without loss of quality, select one of the following options in the Optimization Options section of the Optimize Scanned PDF dialog box: CCITT Group 4 or JBIG2 (Lossless) for monochrome images. If this image has been added to the PDF, you can save the file using the Save option; the scanned image remains uncompressed. When you save a PDF document using the Save As function, the scanned image may be compressed.
For most pages, scanning in black and white at 300 dpi gives the best conversion results. At 150 dpi, precision optical character recognition slightly decreases and the number of font recognition errors increases; at resolutions of 400 dpi or higher, processing is slower and file sizes with compressed pages increase. If the page contains many unrecognized words or small text (9 points or less), try scanning at a higher resolution. Scan in black and white whenever possible.

Pages scanned in 24-bit color, 300 dpi, 8.5 x 11 inches (21.59 x 27.94 cm) are large (25 MB) images before compression. The system may require 50 MB or more of virtual memory to scan an image. Scanning and processing is typically four times slower at 600 dpi than at 300 dpi.
Avoid adjusting the scanner's halftone and diffusion blending settings. This can improve the look, but it becomes difficult to recognize the text.
For texts printed on colored paper, it is recommended to increase the brightness and contrast by about 10%. If your scanner provides light filtering, you should suppress the background color using a filter or lamp. Or, if text is not suppressed, try adjusting the scanner's contrast and brightness to clean up the scanned document.
If your scanner has manual brightness control, adjust it so the characters are legible and well-formed. If symbols are connected, use higher settings (brighter color). If characters are separated, use lower settings (darker color).
Want to save time typing text? The scanner will be an indispensable assistant. After all, to type a page of text, it takes 5-10 minutes, and scanning will take only 30 seconds. For high-quality and fast scanning, you will need an auxiliary program. Its functions should include: working with text and graphic documents, editing the copied image and saving in the desired format.

A free program that may seem superfluous in this series. It does not work with HP and Canon scanners, much less recognizes text. Its only task is to convert any documents and photos to PDF format. However, it does this in a rather strange way - it creates a virtual printer to which you can send the desired text or graphic file, and get a high-quality PDF at the output.
