Samsung or Apple which tablet is better. Apple iPad Pro vs Samsung Galaxy TabProS: which tablet is better

It's been a long time since we had a comparison of something top-end. But it just so happened that the editorial office simultaneously turned out to be the new iPad Pro 10.5 and Samsung Tab S3. Since both devices are similar in many ways (both in price and in features), I decided to compare them and choose the "Best Tablet of 2017".

Appearance

This is a very subjective parameter. But it's worth saying that both tablets look great. These are expensive, beautiful and very high quality devices that are pleasant to use. It is very difficult to find fault with them, but there are still a few little things that I would mention.

Samsung hasn't decided on the location of USB Type-C in any way. Either it shifts slightly in height, or it is simply not in the center, as in this case. It is very difficult to understand what exactly is going on in the minds of the company's engineers when they choose the next place for the connector. But everything else does not raise questions.

Something wondrous is happening at Apple too. The iPad Pro has four speakers on the bottom and top edges, but the location of the cutouts is slightly different. In addition, even the size of these cutouts is different. I understand that this is already too "nerd", but from this company you expect attention to even the smallest trifles, but here such an asymmetry.

The tablets weigh pretty much the same, but the iPad has a noticeably larger screen and smaller bezels around the display. The latter is not particularly important for such a device, but still nice. There is no clear favorite in terms of design. Both tablets are stylish and laconic.

Display

I thought the Tab S3 would be the clear favorite in the display comparison. See for yourself: 9.7-inch Super AMOLED-matrix with a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels, "real" black, excellent color reproduction and support for HDR content. It seems that the iPad with its IPS screen is clearly inferior. But no.

Apple didn't come up with anything new, they just took existing technology and applied it to their tablet. The so-called Promotion is responsible for dynamically changing the refresh rate of the screen. The frequency directly depends on the type of content displayed (for example, 120 Hz will be when using Safari). Taking the tablet in hand for the first time, you are surprised at how smooth everything is.

Even when reading the news or watching the Instagram feed, you notice that it is much more pleasant to consume content on the iPad screen.

The installed matrix supports displaying a wider color gamut DCI-P3, and this will allow, for example, to reproduce all the colors and shades of a photo, with the same accuracy as on a professional monitor. So in terms of screen quality, the iPad has a distinct advantage.

We didn't have any branded styluses, so we couldn't compare them. But the logic of work and their capabilities are approximately the same. So the advantage of one solution over another will depend directly on the programs used and individual needs.

Performance

On this point, the clear championship for the iPad Pro. The six-core A10X processor and the new PowerVR graphics accelerator are capable of running all modern projects at maximum settings. No problems or brakes - sheer pleasure.

The Tab S3 has a Snapdragon 820, which is still quite good, but it's hard for him to compete with a newcomer. This becomes noticeable both in games and with active use of the same multitasking. It sometimes takes a tablet a couple of seconds to load an application, but on an iPad, switching occurs instantly.

It is worth saying that some manufacturers try "a little" more and optimize their designs better for iOS. The main problem with the Tab S3 is Android. The tablet is able to run literally everything at high settings, but not all games can correctly determine the screen resolution and aspect ratio, which is why the image is either pixelated or with slight distortion. A great example of this is Batman from Telltale.

There are no problems with RAM in the devices. They are installed on 4GB, which is enough for all tasks. But the built-in memory in the minimum configuration of Samsung is slightly less - only 32 GB. But this can be compensated by microSD cards.

It makes no sense to compare the two operating systems in 2017. Everyone already knows about everything. Only in terms of music software iOS still surpasses Android. The comparison will be interesting to make after the release of the new firmware for iPad. In it, both the file manager and a full-fledged dock will appear. So we'll leave that for later.

The battery life of the tablets is about the same - from 8 to 10 hours in mixed mode. But Samsung charges a little faster.

Sound quality and connectors

Both tablets are equipped with four speakers. In the Tab S3, the manufacturer used solutions from AKG, and in the iPad Pro, they are of their own design. The volume is enough for both, but the low frequencies in the iPad are much higher. Watching movies and videos on YouTube on it is a real pleasure. Sounds like a good external speaker. It’s hard to believe that such a compact body was able to accommodate such cool speakers.

Samsung does not give such a "wow effect". Yes, the sound is spacious, but the quality that is in the iPad is simply not there.

USB Type-C, for all its modernity and versatility, is still very young. The accessories that appear are not always compatible with a particular model. For example, the 3.5mm adapter simply refused to work with the Tab S3.

And Lightning has been on the market for several years, there are a huge number of accessories with this connector, all of them will work with the iPad Pro.

Camera

Wide choice is considered great, but what if you have to choose between strong iPad competitors Apple and Samsung. Here we will talk about the tablet models of the two giant manufacturers, compare their characteristics and help users make the right choice. One head, as they say, is good, but two are better.

Undoubtedly, tablets from both brands Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 have high characteristics in terms of their performance, memory, multimedia capabilities, photo quality, page loading speed, battery and more. Still, I would like to have more detailed information regarding the pros and cons of both devices. So which tablet to choose and which is better: iPad Apple vs Samsung Galaxy Tab?

An important, and for some, almost the main role is played by the appearance of the tablets. What do we have with Samsung and iPad? The body of the iPad is made of durable monolithic metal - aluminum with a matte surface, which fits aesthetically into the modern lifestyle, is less dirty and undoubtedly protects the inside of the device from external influences, accidental drops. The front panel is glass, fits perfectly into the style of tablets and does not violate harmony. The surface is cared for with a soft flannel cloth.

In turn, Samsung Galaxy Tab has an ergonomic plastic, made "under the skin" external design of the case, while fingerprints are generally not noticeable on an uneven surface. Plus, there are no scratches left on the aluminum surface. However, not everyone can be seduced by an inexpensive plastic imitation of leather, because this design, as they say, is "for everybody". Cleaning the surface on the plastic panel is easy, but the plastic surface is unlikely to match the durability of the Apple iPad case.

Both devices are assembled "for five": technologically verified, no squeaks or slipping, both tablets do not have visible prints on the surface, all buttons are "live" and respond easily, conveniently and practically located.

Among the visible advantages, the Samsung tablet can give odds, since its appearance is more original than that of a standard iPad. Plus Galaxy positioned the speakers on the tablet in front of the panel, which naturally adds to the listening experience for its users. However, some will say that front-panel speakers can easily clog up or spoil the look. And some will argue that any cover that is put on a Samsung tablet will not spoil the sound level.

External buttons for adjusting sound, brightness, backlight, on / off are well located on both devices, they are clear and have no complaints.

Comparison by display quality

In terms of the quality of the display module, the Galaxy tab is still in the lead, as it has a slightly larger diagonal and a higher screen resolution. Samsung did not stint and applied the latest Super Amoled HD technology in the manufacture of the matrix, due to which the number of pixels is higher. After all, the most important thing in a tablet is undoubtedly the display, and the better the technology is used, the higher the picture quality. Apple remains at the same standard level of display quality by adopting the IPS matrix, which has far rendered the quality of the display modules of iPads.

The difference between the display modules affected the brightness and legibility of the picture on the screen. Samsung has a little brighter. Since the aspect ratio of the Galaxy tablet is 16:10, it is more comfortable to watch videos on the Samsung screen than on the Apple iPad. And due to the enlarged screen, almost all records are visible and do not overlap. The aspect ratio of the Apple matrix on the tablet is 4: 3, so the screen shows dark bars at the top and bottom.

As for the additional brightness of the iPad or Samsung tablets, then you can treat it differently. On the one hand, Samsung is brighter, on the other - the iPad will be more economical in spending the charge needed to watch videos. Thus, the duration of video viewing can be increased. Therefore, Apple set the standard brightness, or the iPad did not need additional brightness and therefore did not become equipped with an additional coprocessor that allows you to analyze the degree of lighting and automatically adjust the required lighting depending on the level of lighting in a room or street. Therefore, here a plus can be given to Samsung for advanced technologies, and a separate plus can be given to Apple for economy.

Productive capacity

As for the performance of both tablets, their level is supposedly equal to each other. Apple has equipped the tablet with a 1.4 GHz quad-core Cortex processor.

Samsung's tablet has 2GB of RAM, unlike the iPad, which only features 1GB of RAM. Accordingly, Galaxy should have higher performance on the android system. However, Samsung's operating system is equipped with a 2-core processor, which is lower than that stated in the iPad. Therefore, in terms of performance, both giants are in the same place.

In terms of the memory capacity of devices, Samsung is again ahead, which has a memory expansion in the form of microSD, which allows the owner to install a mini or maximum capacious memory. And the manufacturers of the Apple iPad in their devices have provided the ability to install drives with a capacity from mini 16 to maxi 64 GB.

The rest of the functions in both types of the tablet received a standard set: there is the ability to connect to Bluetooth, WI-FI, 3G Internet, calling cards and much more. Although it can be noted that Apple iPad, in comparison with its competitor, supports LTE communication.

Camera capabilities

As far as the camera is concerned, the differences are small. So Galaxy and iPad have a 5MP rear camera, while the front cameras are slightly different: Samsung has 1.9MP, while the iPad has only 1.2MP on the front camera. Although in practice, these differences are practically invisible.

Battery capacity

The relative autonomy of the tablets, the iPad has surpassed its competitor and is distinguished by a mega-capacious lithium-polymer battery of 11560 mAh, believe me, this is a rather rare indicator among tablet devices. This battery capacity allows the user to work on the tablet for up to 13.5 hours. In turn, the Samsung battery gives out 7000 mAh and allows you to work on the device for up to 10 hours. Therefore, in terms of battery capacity and autonomy, the Apple iPad undoubtedly wins.

Differences between operating systems

Many users noted the quality of the iOS operating system on the iPad, which is characterized by stability, high performance and a wide selection of various branded system applications developed specifically for it. Therefore, experts say that a smart iOS system will last significantly longer than a good Android.

Some, on the contrary, are accustomed to and argue that the android system is no worse, quite flexible and roomy, while it easily finds a common language with various applications, it is quite easy to update. A distinctive feature of Galaxy was the appearance of a light pen in the tablet, with the help of which it is possible to draw, trace, draw on anything. For young users, this is undoubtedly a gift for their favorite tablet, an opportunity for new creativity. For those who are engaged in architecture, design, fine arts, this is the possibility of combining a tablet and a graphics tablet. Also note that the light pen program has the ability to customize different types of fonts, different color modes, photographic capabilities.

Technology improvements

It is impossible not to notice the advantages of the Samsung Galaxy in terms of usability. After all, what technology has come to: programs can be operated even with gloves. Agree that in many ways it is very convenient, but all the time reconfiguring the tablet for a different sensitivity is not always useful. Plus, the Galaxy boasts pressure responsiveness unlike its iPad rival, and the pressure can be specially adjusted from light to strong depending on the user's needs.

So, overall, both devices have excelled in quality and technology. However, the choice is yours, who to give preference: the energy-intensive, stylish tablet, proven by high iOS standards, the Apple iPad, or choose the Galaxy tablet with a non-standard design, with a large, bright, highly sensitive super-touch screen, complemented by the new technology of the light pen from Samsung. Each user will make a choice himself, based on internal needs. Our goal is to introduce you to the differences between iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets. We hope that this task has been completed.

Most of the manufacturing firms today produce tablet PCs. However, the most famous brands in this process were Apple corporation with iPad gadgets and Samsung with the famous Galaxy Tab line. Let's define, which tablet is betteripad orsamsung (samsung)?

To do this, we will step by step analyze the technical characteristics of devices from two companies and highlight their main differences and advantages.

- Tablet operating system

Samsung tablet PCs are mainly based on Windows and Android operating systems, while Apple uses a system of its own production, which is closed to other brands, called iOS.

In order to be convinced of the best aspects of each of the presented OS, you should personally familiarize yourself with them and try to work on them with your own hands. Only after that each user will be able to determine for himself the convenience of using one or another operational software.

- Additional features

As for additional software and installation of various applications, the brainchild of Samsung are in the lead. The user has access to various types of communication - Wi-fi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS. While Apple adherents are content with a standard set consisting exclusively of Bluetooth and Wi-fi modules.

- Design

Regarding the appearance of the devices, we identified two components of the models that distinguish the body of products by brands - Samsung - plastic, Apple - metal.

- Display

iPad uses a Retina display that is pleasing to the eye. The screen resolution is several times higher than that of the competitor and is 2048 × 1536 pixels versus 1280 × 800 pixels from the Galaxy Note. The iPad display is much more attractive due to its high definition, viewing angles, and warmer colors in images.

Taking the technical component for comparison, it will not be possible to find any special differences. The multimedia software is also the same, except for the more realistic features of the iPad screen.

The extensive personalization options that come standard across the Android lineup are strengths of Samsung and the Galaxy Note in particular.

The addition is the TouchWiz UX shell - Mini Apps and Multiscreen, which significantly increase the performance and functionality of Samsung devices.

In conclusion, we note that the products of both companies are made at the highest level, so it is not possible to single out one manufacturer. It so happened that today Apple is a more popular brand, but Samsung is stubbornly catching up with it in popularity. Perhaps the situation will change significantly soon.

Just six months ago, a person who decided to buy a tablet computer had very little choice: either the Apple iPad or its competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Despite the inflated price (however, this also applies to the tablet from Apple), many still preferred the device of the South Korean company Samsung. In this article, we will try to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each of the devices.

First introduced to the public at the end of January last year and shipping in April, Apple's tablet has literally created a new market. Despite the fact that tablet computers existed before the iPad, the beginning of the rapid development and growth of popularity of such devices can be counted from that moment.

The first thing that catches your eye when you look at is its design, in which, in general, Apple has always succeeded. It has a slim aluminum body, a glossy black bezel and a relatively light weight (680 grams for the Wi-Fi version, 730 for the 3G version). In general, this device looks like an enlarged iPhone and uses a similar operating system, which was originally called iPhone OS, but now it bears the name iOS. There is one single button on the front panel, a power button on top, volume and mute buttons on the right. The Apple iPad does not have any expansion slots or USB ports, so you won't be able to use memory cards or USB drives. To download data, you need to be connected to a computer, and the latter must have iTunes, for which Apple is often scolded. It is also worth noting the absence of both front and main cameras, so you won't be able to make a video call or take a photo of a note using this device. Among other things, the tablet has an accelerometer and gyroscope, which provide automatic screen rotation and additional control functions in games.

The diagonal of the touch screen with full multi-touch support and covered with durable glass is 9.7 inches, the resolution is 1024 × 768. Thanks to the used IPS technology, the screen shows excellent color rendition and good viewing angles, which provides a comfortable work when browsing the web, videos and other content. It is worth noting that many note the "outdated" aspect ratio of the screen - 4: 3, while almost all manufacturers have switched to a widescreen ratio of 16: 9, which turned out to be more convenient not only for watching movies, but also in other applications. It is worth noting that the aspect ratio remains the same. Why - it is not known, apparently, the company has some reasons for this, about which we do not know.

As already written, Apple iPad runs an operating system iOS(current version 4.3). Since its inception, this operating system has undergone a number of changes of different significance and at this point in time is one of the most convenient for use. However, for those users who are accustomed to customizing the system for themselves as much as possible, iOS is not suitable: in accordance with Apple's concept, everything should work out of the box, and users should not be able to "finish" an already produced product with their own hands.

One of the most significant advantages of Apple iOS is the widest range of applications available in the AppStore. At the same time, the interest of developers in this operating system does not wane at all over time.

The iPad uses Apple's own A4 1GHz processor. In addition, there is also a built-in graphics accelerator. All this allows the tablet to work with video content, graphics, three-dimensional games. Those who have seen the Apple iPad in operation at least once will agree that there are practically no "brakes" in it. One of the reasons for this is the development of both hardware and software, as well as their mutual optimization within the same company. This made it possible to create not only a very productive product, but also to provide a long battery life - up to 10 hours. At the same time, the declared figures practically do not differ from those that the user receives in practice.

This tablet was the first device to be released as a competitor to the Apple iPad and, at the same time, one of the first tablet computers on which Google Android was used as an operating system, which is playing an increasingly significant role in the mobile operating system market.

The body of the South Korean tablet is made of plastic and is available in two colors - black and white. The design of the device is also laconic like that of its competitor - nothing superfluous. The main difference is the smaller size, which is due to the smaller screen size of the Galaxy Tab: 7 inches versus 9.7 for the iPad. The case is 12 mm thick and weighs only 320 grams. Of the controls, there are 4 touch-sensitive function keys that are standard for Android OS.

The 7-inch touch screen of Samsung's tablet is multi-touch and is covered in plastic, unlike the glass found on the Apple iPad. Despite the fact that many expected that Samsung would use a matrix made with Super AMOLED technology in its tablet, the final product uses a Super TFT screen with a resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels. During operation, the screen behaves as you would expect from a high-quality TFT display: it has fairly good viewing angles and color rendition, but is completely unreadable in bright light.

This tablet, unlike its competitor, has two built-in cameras: a 3-megapixel main camera with autofocus, located on the rear panel, and also a front one, which can be used for video calls or chats. Despite the fact that many consider the camera to be completely unnecessary in tablet computers, we think it can still be useful in certain situations.

Samsung Galaxy Tab entered the market running an operating system Android 2.2(firmware 2.3.3 is now available). This operating system, as you know, was not intended for large screens, but was developed for use on smartphones, however, on the Galaxy Tab, in addition to the operating system itself, a proprietary graphical interface from Samsung is also installed, which makes working with the tablet much more convenient.

Fewer applications have been released for the operating system from Google than for iOS, however, their set is quite sufficient even for the most demanding users. In addition, given the openness of the platform, developers are actively presenting new applications, games and useful utilities for Android. It is also worth noting that, in contrast to the AppStore, in the Android Market you can find a much larger number of programs distributed free of charge. Another advantage of the Android OS is support for Adobe Flash technology, which is available here by default.

Among the shortcomings of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, many note the use of the "phone" version of Google Android and the inability to upgrade to Android 3.0 Honeycomb, which is not entirely fair. First, the Android Honeycomb tablet is simply not designed for use on devices with these specifications. Secondly, given the small screen size and the presence of the proprietary TouchWiz shell, using Android 2.3 on the Samsung Galaxy Tab is quite convenient. It should be noted that even the new products of 2011, for example HTC Flyer, use the "phone" version of the Android operating system.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor. There is also a built-in graphics accelerator - PowerVR SGX540, which is one of the most powerful even today, so there shouldn't be any problems even in modern games, video playback in HD resolution is also supported. The amount of RAM is 512 MB. The built-in battery capacity is 4000 mAh, which provides up to 7 hours of battery life. This is less than the Apple iPad, but also a very good indicator for this type of device. Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth 3.0. There is also an A-GPS receiver and an accelerometer. It is noteworthy that the Samsung Galaxy Tab has an earpiece - you can use the device for conversations without resorting to a speakerphone or a headset. Unfortunately, I have not met people talking on the Samsung Galaxy Tab, holding the tablet to their ear - it must look funny.

Compare

When choosing a mobile device, users are guided by its completely different characteristics. For some, the most important thing is design and a renowned manufacturer. Others would like a device that is reliable and easy to use. Still others would like to be able to customize it to suit their needs. For some, the most important are the technical characteristics of the purchase as such. It is worth noting that, depending on preferences, those characteristics that are considered by one user as advantages, others may be perceived as significant disadvantages. Let's try to compare the two tablets discussed above on the main points.

Screen

The screen is probably one of the most important components of any tablet: it is with its help that you will have to carry out all the work with the device in the future. Here, the championship is for the Apple iPad - its screen is larger and gives a much better picture, thanks to the use of IPS technology, against TN in the Galaxy Tab.

Design

This point cannot be answered unequivocally. Yes, Apple is one of the trendsetters in gadgets and the iPad - a pretty attractive device in a thin metal case with excellent build quality. Nevertheless, for some, the more “rough” design option is more attractive, and they may like the appearance of the Galaxy Tab, moreover, in terms of build quality, it is practically not inferior to the product from Apple.

Software

It is also difficult to give an unambiguous assessment of this parameter: the Apple iOS operating system is more reliable, provides more comfort in work and has the most extensive list of available applications for it. Nevertheless, many are scared off by the "closed" platform, limited support for multitasking and the need to use iTunes. In turn, Google Android is the fastest growing open platform on the market, slightly inferior to iOS in terms of the number of applications available. In addition, the user can fine-tune any parameters and functions of the system for themselves. But, perhaps due to the "openness", this software platform is less reliable and not as convenient as iOS, at least in version 2.3.

Functionality

The leader here is the Samsung Galaxy Tab. This tablet can do everything that the Apple iPad does and more: the South Korean device has two cameras, a microSD card slot and even allows you to make voice calls.

The convenience of use

Let's start with the feature most commonly used on tablet computers - surfing the Internet. IPad's large screen size, high-quality picture, as well as an oleophobic coating and instant touch response provide a more comfortable browsing experience than the Galaxy Tab. In most cases, on an Apple tablet, you do not have to resort to scaling pages, and if you have to, then this function is implemented in the iPad better than almost all competitors. One of the advantages of the Galaxy Tab is Flash support. Despite the fact that many sites already support HTML 5, this technology still remains very popular.

The second most popular task for tablets is video playback. Here the South Korean device is in the lead: most of the popular formats are supported out of the box, and the aspect ratio of the 16: 9 screen avoids the appearance of wide black borders at the top and bottom of the image. Nevertheless, one cannot but agree that the image on the iPad screen looks juicier, and the image has a larger area. Everything is spoiled by the need to use iTunes to download content.

When using tablets for reading, the Apple iPad turns out to be more convenient, all also thanks to its high-quality screen and its size. Speaking of size, let's also touch on the issue of device mobility: the first will be Samsung - it can easily fit into any handbag and even in some pockets, which cannot be said about the Apple iPad.

Games: in terms of gaming capabilities, both tablets are approximately equal - both have built-in graphics accelerators and multitouch for easy control. However, games released for iOS are of higher quality. The reason for this, probably, is not even in the devices themselves, but in the platform on which the developers direct their main efforts.

And the last thing: use in work. Few people edit serious documents, do programming or design using a tablet computer. And for sending e-mail, taking notes and calendar, both tablets provide similar capabilities.

conclusions

In the title of the article, we asked the question: "What to choose?" Having examined in detail the advantages and disadvantages of each of the tablets, we can say that both devices are advanced devices for their time, which are still relevant today. Considering that the price for them has significantly decreased since the beginning of sales and is approximately the same, it makes sense to make a choice based only on your own preferences: in any case, you will get a quality product.

The confrontation between iOS and Android began with the release of these operating systems and continues to this day. If Apple makes both devices and operating systems, then in the case of Google, you need a device manufacturer of about the same level. At the moment Samsung is successfully coping with this task. Let's try to figure out which tablet is better (Samsung or iPad), using the Galaxy Tab S3 9.7 and Apple iPad Pro 10.5 as an example.

Housing and dimensions

iPad Pro has an aluminum chassis with rounded corners. The front panel is glass, as expected.

Dimensions (width / height / thickness): 250.6 / 174.1 / 6.1 mm. This form factor allows you to use a keyboard case. IPad weighs 477 g.

Its competitor, the Galaxy Tab S3, is also made in a combination of glass and metal. But it has glass not only the front panel, but also the back. Only the bezel is made of aluminum.

Dimensions (width / height / thickness): 237.3 / 169/6 mm. As you can see, the thickness is the same as that of the iPad. The difference in weight is also difficult to notice - about 50 grams (429 g).

Design and arrangement of elements

All functional elements on the tablets are located almost the same. First, let's take a look at the iPad 10.5 from all sides. At the top there are two speakers, a microphone, a power button and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

On the bottom, there are two more speakers and a Lightning port.

On the right are only the volume control buttons.

On the left side there is a neat contact pad for connecting an external keyboard.

On the back is the traditional Apple logo and camera bump. The front panel is adorned with a 10.5-inch display, as well as a button with Touch ID, a front camera and sensors.

Now let's go over Samsung. There are only a couple of speakers at the top.

Below is a pair of speakers, between which there is a headphone jack (3.5 mm) and USB Type C.

On the right side, there are many different types of elements. There is a power button, volume control, a slot for a SIM card, a USB flash drive, and two microphones, one of which is noise canceling.

On the left side, like the iPad, there is only a contact pad for an external keyboard. It takes up a lot of space.

There is a camera above the rear panel and the company logo flaunts. Well, in front, traditionally for Samsung, there is a physical Home button with a built-in fingerprint scanner. Above is a standard set of sensors and a front camera.

It's hard to figure out which is better in terms of design. iPad 10.5 has flowing lines, and all the holes and buttons are thoughtfully placed. The Tab S3 has a more austere design with a glass panel on the front and back.

About camera

Few will take pictures on a tablet, but if necessary, you can not only take a photo of office documents, but also fully use the device for mobile photography. The developers have installed flagship solutions in both cases.

Apple has a 12-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 1.8, with the ability to shoot in 4K. The front camera is 7 megapixels and shoots in Full HD. The shots are excellent quality even in low light - on the front and rear cameras.

Samsung has a 13 megapixel main camera, which is 1 megapixel more than its competitor, and a 5 megapixel front camera. Shooting capabilities are similar, the quality is about the same. The only thing Samsung wins is the large number of settings in the standard camera app.

Battery

Despite the different battery capacities, the devices are discharged in about the same way. According to Apple developers, their tablet will “live” about 10 hours of use. Samsung claims that in the same mode, their product will withstand two hours longer. Of course, the key here is exactly how to use the device. Of course, in game mode, the charge will last for about 6 hours. But nevertheless, it is worth giving credit to the engineers of the Korean company - with a weaker battery, their tablet is able to give out more autonomy.

Screen

Significant differences begin with this characteristic. Samsung has a Super AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2048 × 1536 pixels. Despite the saturation and brightness, the display is economical. Partly because of this, the device has a fairly large autonomy with a completely non-record battery capacity.

Another advantage of the LED matrix is excellent visibility in bright light. In addition, you can tweak and improve the screen by choosing one of four modes: movie, photo, basic and adaptive. The latter is the default and knows how to select the display parameters for the conditions of use.

Apple's Super AMOLED matrix responded with a noticeable increase in brightness for regular IPS. But this is not the main advantage. The key benefit was the refresh rate of the screen.

Instead of 60Hz like other manufacturers, the new iPad's screen is capable of 120Hz. This technology is called ProMotion, and, in addition to increasing, it is able to adjust the frequency for different kinds of actions to save energy. For example, in games, the frequency will drop to 60 Hz, and when watching movies, even down to 30 Hz.

Both devices support styluses.

The Americans made the stylus thinner and longer.

From this point of view, the choice of iPad or Samsung is obvious - Apple, of course. With ProMotion technology, working with an e-pencil will be like real.

Operating system

It will take weeks to compare iOS and Android in detail. Therefore, we will focus on the OS installed in the described models.

Samsung is "armed" with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat and a proprietary shell from the company itself - TouchWiz. In addition to the operating system, there is special software that allows you to configure the stylus to execute various commands - for example, calling the context menu, setting various gestures, and the like.

Apple has iOS 11, which allows you to fully realize the full potential of the tablet. If, for some reason, you have firmware version 10 at the time of purchase, it is better to update immediately. But, alas, there are no additional settings for the stylus.

Memory

Since the "apple" device is positioned as a replacement for a laptop, it is quite logical that it has more memory. A competitor, even with a connected microSD drive of the maximum permissible size, will not be able to boast of such a volume of permanent memory. The iPad has it from 64 GB in the basic version and up to 512 GB - the maximum. Sometimes 256 GB. Regardless of the version, the RAM will always be 4 GB.

Galaxy has 3 GB of RAM, and only 32 GB of permanent storage. The maximum amount of flash drives is 256 gigabytes.

About performance

Since any of the devices under consideration shows the maximum performance, we will consider their main characteristics.
