A type

Determining the type of device (phone or smartphone?) Is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to opt for a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly shorter than that of a simple phone.

In modern smartphones, not only ordinary SIM cards can be used, but also their more compact versions of micro SIM and nano SIM. eSIM is a SIM card integrated into the phone. It takes up almost no space and does not require a separate tray for installation. ESIM is not yet supported in Russia. Glossary of terms by category Mobile phones

Almost all modern smartphones have Wi-Fi and USB interfaces. Bluetooth and IRDA are less common. Wi-Fi is used to connect to the internet. USB is used to connect the phone to a computer. Many phones also have Bluetooth. It is used to connect wireless headphones, to connect the phone to wireless speakers, and to transfer files. A smartphone equipped with an IRDA interface can be used as a universal remote control.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB, ANT + Satellite navigation

Built-in GPS and GLONASS modules allow you to determine the coordinates of the phone using signals from satellites. In the absence of GPS, a modern smartphone can determine its own location using signals from the base stations of a cellular operator. However, finding coordinates based on signals from satellites is usually much more accurate.

Samsung Galaxy W I8150

The Samsung Galaxy W, presented at IFA 2011, borrowed its capital letter from the English Wonder, which translates as “miracle”. Let's face it, we've seen smartphones with more "wonderful" characteristics. But the price-quality ratio and the implementation of functions really did not disappoint.

Design

The smartphone is assembled well, I did not notice any assembly defects. The case is neither thick nor thin, it fits perfectly in the hand and does not weigh much. The back cover is made of textured plastic, pleasant to the touch, so from the kinesthetic side there is a solid five.

As for the overall aesthetic impression ... This is the same Samsung on Android OS as many of its predecessors. Central hardware button "Home" under the screen, touch "Properties" and "Back" on the sides, inscriptions "Samsung" above the screen and on the back cover. I saw one - I saw everything.

The off button is located on the left side, and the volume control is on the opposite side. A headphone jack and a MicroUSB connector with a cap occupy the top end.

Screen

The diagonal of the capacitive display of the Galaxy W is 3.7 inches, and the resolution is 800x480 pixels. This is an ordinary TFT screen, but with an excellent margin of brightness. At maximum brightness, it can easily "out-shout" the winter sun, and in summer it should show itself well.

The sensitivity of the screen is high, five clicks are simultaneously recognized, which is enough to show these flying fruits who is the boss, the cook and the ninja in the house.

At an angle, the image fades slightly, but the overall picture makes an extremely positive impression.

Iron

Under the body of the smartphone is a single-core processor with a clock speed of 1.4 GHz, an Adreno 205 graphics accelerator and 512 MB of RAM (the user “sees” about 351 MB). This ensures high performance in games and applications. The synthetic benchmarks are also quite good - 1169 points in Quadrant Standard and 57.2 FPS in Neocore.

As for working in the operating system itself ... I don't know how many cores and gigahertz a gluttonous green robot needs for perfect interface operation, but Galaxy W is no different from the vast majority of devices in this respect. From time to time, the interface experiences micro-delays when switching desktops, gallery, browser. And Android Market no, no, and it will slow down. I will not say that it greatly interferes, but the eye clings to these flaws.

Samsung Galaxy W is connected to a PC using the MTP protocol. The solution, in my opinion, is a good one, since the connected device automatically switches to storage mode, without the need to press anything on the screen and safely remove the device after the data copying is complete. The downside of this solution is that to connect, you need to install the Samsung Kies application on your PC, which has all the necessary drivers. You don't need to run Kies itself.

Samsung did not become greedy and endowed the device with a 4 GB drive (but saved on a memory card). The place was divided as follows: a gigabyte was spent on the needs of the operating system itself, another gigabyte was allocated for installing applications, and the remaining couple of "hectares" were given to users. In such a division, gigabytes for applications are especially pleasing - you don't have to rack your brains over what to remove from old programs in order to install a new one. Positively!

Android

The latest Samsung Galaxy W firmware brings with it a combination of Android 2.3.6 and the new Samsung Touchwiz. I have not come into close contact with this shell since the time of the review and was pleasantly amazed at how the Koreans tightened it up over these six months. However, in this they were greatly facilitated by a completely different technical potential of the gadget.

The interface of the desktops has remained the same - by "pinching" you can switch to the mode of selecting any of the tables. There can be up to seven of them in total. Of the pleasant additions, it is worth noting that now, alternately leafing through the tables, you can jump from the seventh to the first in one motion.

The lock screen has been completely redesigned and no longer resembles the standard Android sliders. Instead, the phone is brought into working condition with one arbitrary movement of the finger. And you can still install a separate picture on it. The only pity is that, unlike HTC Sense, you cannot place active elements on the lock screen in this version of Touchwiz, and by default you can find only the widget of the “native” music player there.

Samsung has pre-installed a bunch of applications and all its hubs ("portals") into the smartphone. Here you have an alternative application store Samsung Apps, and wireless transfer of AllShare content, and "air" synchronization with a Kies Air PC. For those who like to work with office documents, there is Polaris Office on the smartphone screen, and for mobile photographers there is even a photo editor. Absent users will appreciate the note taking app with desktop widget. Another fun diary app is Mini Diary.

The pre-installed games are not very interesting, besides, in almost all cases they are only demo versions. Fortunately, two app stores at once are still ready to inundate you with good toys.

But sociable Internet users are more fortunate - Galaxy W comes with uTalk client, which unites several social networks and instant messengers. Well, the social hub itself, integrating news from Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin, is also in place.

I was also pleased that the stupid limitation on four simultaneously open windows was removed in the browser, which until recently terrorized inexpensive models with Touchwiz. Now you can open the windows as much as you like. Hooray! (In fact, up to 16 pieces, but, by the way, all the same hurray! - Approx.ed.)

In general, the system leaves a pleasant impression and there was no desire to immediately change Touchwiz to some third-party launcher. It's not HTC Sense, but you can use it.

Multimedia

The sound in the headphones of the Samsung Galaxy W is very decent, the device is quite capable of replacing inexpensive players on the road. Of course, I'm not talking about a complete headset with no bass right now, but about some decent headphones.

The "native" Android player still does not parse Cyrillic characters well and does not support lossless formats, so true music connoisseurs are invited to the Android Market. My favorite old-school Andless player in this smartphone is shamelessly buggy and freezes the system when trying to play APE-files, so I had to stop at the paid Power AMP - there were no problems with it.

The loudspeaker of the gadget is average in volume, incoming calls are heard well. The quality of the microphone and earpiece is also good - no distortions in voice transmission were noticed.

With video playback, everything is fine. Firstly, when copying a video to a smartphone, the drivers automatically recognize the video file and offer to convert it to WMV, which helps to compress the file in size 3-5 times without losing quality.

Secondly, if you don't have time to wait, you can copy it like that. The device handles MKV, MP4 and AVI formats without any problems. DivX and Xvid codecs are supported out of the box. The only black sheep was the FLV format, which the smartphone could neither convert nor play.

In general, I did not find a reason to install a third-party video player, the standard one does its job perfectly.

A good screen with a decent resolution, a good camera, it works very quickly with the Internet, which after WM6.5 on the Samsung Omnia II is especially noticeable to me. I cannot fail to note the good ergonomics of Samsung and this device, in particular: you can answer calls by pressing the central physical button, and end the conversation by pressing the power button. The player can be operated without unlocking the screen. Data transfer is also disabled in one step. Lots of good and pleasant things. The device is very thin and light, which makes me very happy.

Optimal screen size, I don't feel like it anymore, the phone is very comfortable in the hand. A large number of dialing options, for each number you can make a shortcut, as well as a shortcut for sending SMS to a specific person. GPRS pleases, catches very quickly. The price is attractive.

Poor rough plastic of the back cover, which also creaks.
The biggest setback is that there will be no update to Android 4.0 ICS for this device, although an update was promised in January when buying. Of course, we will survive without him, but the kidalov fact is obvious.
There are all sorts of glitches with the need to reboot, which I associate with memory overload, i.e. if you have a 16GB card and it is packed for 14-15, then there will be glitches. But this is not something special for this model, it is typical for all smartphones that have been in my hands.
Well, I can't help but say about the headset - horror, I didn't even take it out of the bag.
It's a pity, you can't switch tracks while the player is working by holding down the physical volume buttons.
In the firmware from Samsung, there are games that are not demolished without root-rights. Everything would be fine, but when updating through GooglePlay (oh

    they are in everything!
the loop of the internal speaker is poorly fixed, as a result, they glued it to me in the service center, after 1.5 years of use, the phone works for 7-10 minutes, then it heats up and turns off, then it shows that the battery is dead. After a general reset, the problem was solved for half a day. The sound constantly disappears, so there were plenty of chances to oversleep at work, the alarm clock did not play! Very quiet internal speaker. I was also alarmed by the unreasonable vibration of the phone, it was so hanging by itself. It constantly loses the network.

Speaker volume - in noisy places you can hardly hear the interlocutor, compared with LG 500, LG has a much louder speaker. The camera shoots well, but when you set the maximum resolution, the zoom does not work. The story is the same with the video. The white case gets very dirty, you have to clean it with an eraser. The battery is not a fountain, it is not enough for a day, even with inactive use, if you sit on Twitter, VKontakte, the battery melts before our eyes. Incomprehensible things with memory. Despite the fact that an SD card is installed, the internal memory is also clogged. When it was completely clogged, the gallery stopped working. But all these are trifles in comparison with the BRAKING PERFORMANCE of Android. I thought the 1.4 processor would give me fast performance, but the phone is constantly slowing down. It is especially unpleasant when you need to make important calls, and
