Russian browsers for the computer. A fast browser for an old computer - myth or reality

Today, perhaps, not a single person can imagine life without the Internet, without the possibility of communication, the ability to download what you need, communicate via video communication for free, watch free videos and much more. The life of a modern person is divided into two parts. The first is real, the second is virtual. The Internet has become one of the main sources of information. Without it, it is quite difficult to imagine the life of a modern person, therefore the efforts of programmers and physicists are aimed at the constant modernization of the Internet space, the creation of high-quality free Internet resources.

Without which access to the Internet will be impossible? For example, you installed a router at home or connected a dedicated network of an Internet provider, but all this can be called a waste of money if you do not have a browser installed on your computer.

A browser is a special program that provides access to Internet pages. Today there are many browsers from different manufacturers, most of which you can download for free from us. There are so many browsers that it is incredibly difficult and sometimes almost impossible to choose the best browser. Each of the web browsers that can be found with us has advantages and disadvantages, so what to be happy about when deciding to download this or that browser for free, and what everyone chooses to put up with independently. Of course, first of all, manufacturing companies release new browser programs for the Windows operating system, since its users are the absolute majority.

Since you are reading this article, it means that you want to download a new browser for free on your computer. In order to find the best browser for yourself and download it for free, you need to decide which functions for Internet surfing are your priority. For example, if speed is most important to you, then the best thing for you would be to download the fastest browser for free. In the event that in the first place you are not speed, but, say, the convenience of the interface, the best thing for you would be to download a free browser, which contains a huge number of widgets, an express panel and fairly flexible interface settings.

On our website you can find a special section, which contains all existing browsers for Windows, each of which you can get for free. Among them you will find and can download the most popular ones, for example, Opera, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, as well as lesser-known browsers, such as Chromium, Pale Moon, Maxthon, Byffox and many others, which you can also download from us for free. All these browsers for the Internet have their pros and cons, so the choice is always up to each of you, what you want to download and what to use.

You do not need to worry about the fact that you may not download the latest product. Only new browsers are featured on our site, so don't waste time looking for newer versions. All browsers that can be downloaded from us are exposed only in the latest versions.

Absolutely every browser contains a detailed description, in which its main features and shortcomings are described in an understandable language for each browser. After reading this description and looking at the screenshots, you can easily decide whether to download this browser or it is better to look for another. All that remains for you later is to download and install the selected browser on your stationary computer or laptop.

It is worth noting that you can download each browser without registering on the site, which significantly saves your time. Moreover, downloading an internet browser from our website is not only fast, but also absolutely free. We do not demand money from you, just as the manufacturers themselves do not demand it. This page contains more than two dozen browsers that are freely available. Absolutely every Internet user can download a browser to his liking for free, download it for free on his computer, install and surf the world wide web!

A browser is a software required in every computer. You can choose and download a browser for Windows 7, 8, 10 for free on our website.

We have collected the most popular latest Russian versions of browsers in 2018.

Why is it needed? Firstly, it is designed to work on the Internet (and this is needed everywhere these days). It opens web pages and all kinds of web documents. Secondly, the browser comes to the rescue and control the machine, making it easy to view computer files and their directories. Regarding the management of web applications - also to the browser.

Today there are a great many browsers for Windows. You can download the best browsers for Windows from our website. And they differ not only in the shortcut that you see on the desktop (although it’s a sin to complain here, the developers tried to make each individual and not like the others). All kinds of additional functions, built-in extensions that give the user all the new opportunities and make his life on the net easier. One gets the feeling that developers from different companies are just competing with each other. And, perhaps, somewhere it is. The competition among browsers is tough, so you have to puzzle how to stand out so that users choose your product. You can download several browsers and try them out, leaving the most convenient one for you.

However, all the extra bells and whistles aside, browsers look very similar. Even though different engines were used to create them. This is due to international standards that all developers follow. They do this not out of despair (no one twists their hands and forces them to work ONLY this way). However, uniform requirements make it possible to ensure that all information will be displayed correctly in the browser, and the user does not want to shove the mixer in his eyes when he sees the open page.

Browsers are distributed free of charge, do not take up a lot of space, do not conflict with each other (unless everyone wants to be the "default browser"). So it is not uncommon for cases when several such programs are installed on one computer at once according to the principle "everyone is good at something different." This option is also convenient when several users work at the same machine at once - each has its own browser, and there are no problems with saving tabs, bookmarks and passwords.

So you can start downloading from our site right now as many browsers as you need, and those that you like. If it suddenly turns out that you are mistaken, and the browser of your dreams is not hidden behind the “beautiful label”, you can always replace it with another one.

On duty, I have to keep several computers of a very respectable age in working order. In terms of "hardware" it is not difficult - fortunately, cars released 10 years ago are often assembled (soldered) of higher quality than modern consumer goods. But in terms of software, the task is more difficult. The biggest headache for me is antiviruses and browsers. Both those and others are very eager for RAM, which, alas, is in short supply (for the last 1.5 years, the budget for updating computers at school tends to zero, and a small upgrade can be done only in the event of a complete failure of the old iron). Meanwhile, it is highly desirable to update both the antivirus and the browser periodically. We will talk about the choice of antivirus some other time, and today I will try to find the fastest browser for old computers.

First, a little background. Until recently, on all old computers, I installed the old woman Opera 12. But, alas, one fine day, in this once wonderful browser, a vital site - an electronic journal - began to display crookedly. Well, I had to say goodbye to the old Opera and look for alternatives.

First of all, of course, I checked how the fresh Opera would behave on old machines. Alas, as expected, Opera 30 (at the time of my experiment this version was relevant) behaved like a typical Chromium browser: it ate a lot of memory, forcing the computer to swap heavily (with an IDE disk, heh ...). Things were a little better with other typical chromo-clones (Yandex Browser, Chrome itself). The fresh Firefox 40 behaves relatively decently, but it has obvious problems with rendering the interface (slows down) and memory consumption is still quite high (especially when opening 2-3 tabs). Well, since the well-known browsers cannot cope with the task, let's try different exotic ones.

Part 1. Looking for a fast browser in the Chromium camp

I was pleasantly surprised in terms of speed. Being an add-on to Internet Explorer, it works very fast and does not eat up too much memory. But, alas, all this happiness is available only on Windows 7, and the weakest machines work for me under Windows XP. No, under Windows XP the mentioned SlimBrowser works great, but the IE8 engine, alas, is hopelessly outdated and differs little in rendering quality from the same Opera 12-.

Then I decided to try out the "unusual" variations on the Chromium theme. There were as many as three candidates. The first one is. It is positioned by developers as a lightweight and fast browser. In general, this statement is true - for a chromo-clone, Midori is really quite light and fast. But, unfortunately, on computers with 1 gigabyte of RAM (and even more so with 512 megabytes), it is not light enough.
The second candidate is Chinese. The younger brother of the well-known Maxthon was born about a year ago. In essence, it is Chromium stripped down to the limit. It works really quite fast, but it still consumes a lot of memory. I would recommend it rather as an addition to the main browser on normal machines (when you need to quickly read something without waiting for the main browser to load - Nitro loads almost instantly). But this browser is not suitable for older computers.

Finally, the last Chrome in my experiment is an OpenSource project. The developer positions it as a successor to the good old Opera, but on a modern engine (guess which one?). True, from a technical point of view, this browser is built a little differently - it does not create a separate process for each sneeze. This feature allows the Otter (this is how the browser name is translated from English) to save memory well. In terms of speed and functionality, Otter is also pretty good. But, alas, it is still very raw and not stable enough for everyday use. And the interface, to be honest, leaves much to be desired ... Besides, Otter is essentially a theater of one actor (in the sense of a developer) and, alas, there is almost no hope for a quick project to a digestible state.

Otter Browser. In the bowels of the tundra Otter in gaiters ...

Part 2. Looking for a fast browser in the Gecko camp

Well, since the Chrome community cannot please with anything in terms of speed, let's try to turn to the second opposing side and look at browsers based on the Gecko engine. This engine is no less popular among developers, although with its own specifics. If on the basis of Chromium (and Blink) browsers are built mainly by various commercial companies (Otter is a rare exception), then Gecko is more popular with the OpenSource community. Unfortunately, this community is, for the most part, busy changing the basic functionality of Firefox, as a result of which clones of Firelis (or Firepands - as you like) are born with different sets of functions. Against this background, several projects stand out that make optimized assemblies for certain platforms. Among them, only two are focusing on making Firefox run faster. The first project is. Within its framework, assemblies are made that work (according to the assurances of the developers) 25% faster than the original FF. Until recently, within the framework of the PaleMoon project, there was even a separate assembly optimized for Windows XP, but due to the termination of official support for this OS, its release was curtailed. However, until now there is a separate build for weak Atom-based machines, which can be used on any old computers.
In terms of speed, PaleMoon is very pleased - the subjective speed of launching the browser and loading pages on a computer with 1 GB of RAM is even higher than when working with Opera 12 (although it eats a little more memory). The interface, by the way, is rendered much faster than that of the ancestor in the face of FF (the sawn Australis affects). True, to make the work more convenient, the "lunar" browser will have to be finished a little (in particular, and included in the settings). In general, the impressions of this browser are the most pleasant. Among other things, PaleMoon supports extensions from FireFox, which means it will be quite easy to expand its functionality.

Finally, the last contender for the title of "fastest browser for old computers" is the browser. This project, which appeared at the dawn of Firefox's popularity, has been dormant for many years and has only recently begun to revive. In essence, it is a very distant relative of Firefox, taking only the Gecko engine from its ancestor. Due to its distance of affinity, K-Meleon does not support extensions from the original Firefox and does not inherit all its problems (speed in particular). As a result, we have a very smart and quite functional browser. By the speed of work today - K-Meleon is the leader. Only the clumsy interface and the overload of not all the necessary functions prevent it from unambiguously recommending it for use.

K-Meleon 74. The fastest browser ...

As a conclusion. Based on the results of many days of testing (including on real users), I personally opted for PaleMoon (more precisely, on its assembly for Atom). In conditions of a severe lack of RAM, it works noticeably faster than all other browsers. On computers with 512 megabytes of RAM, K-Meleon showed the best results in terms of memory consumption, but users almost 100% of cases complain about its inconvenient interface (read - the unusual appearance and non-standard arrangement of controls). In theory, all this can be solved by fine-tuning the interface (fortunately, K-Meleon provides such an opportunity), but in practice the difference in the speed of work with PaleMoon is not so great. The final decision, however, is yours.

I tested a couple more programs that claim to be "the fastest browser for an old computer." My impressions are in.

Ya.Browser is a web browser from Yandex, created on the basis of the Chromium engine. Combines the best features of popular browsers Chrome and Opera, and also provides unique opportunities to its users.

The browser from Yandex is similarly capable of activating the Turbo mode, which saves traffic, and all the same fast loading of pages during a decrease in the speed of the Internet connection, as in. Enjoy a minimalist interface, amazing speed and built-in translator, as well as add extensions from the Google Chrome store.

Browser Chrome for a long time was the leader among its peers by a wide margin. It would seem that such trump cards as crazy speed and user-friendly interface left no chances for analogs.

But the increasingly hot breath of competitors in the form of Mozilla and Opera, as well as the conquest of their audience share with new products, such as Yandex.Browser, demanded new accents from the developers.

The Opera browser from the descendants of the Vikings brings reliability, speed and convenience, and the use of the unique Turbo mode allows you to quickly load pages even with a critically low Internet connection speed.

Opera for PC is a powerful web browser from Norwegian developers who have made an emphasis on the reliability and convenience of web surfing.

Mazila Firefox is one of the most popular cross-platform browsers in the world, provides fast, safe surfing on the Internet, is flexible in settings and a huge selection of plug-ins and extensions.

Mozilla Firefox's multimillion-dollar web browser fan club is driving the marketplace, creating conditions for healthy competition with Google's browser. The reasons why users are striving to download Mozila Firefox lie on the surface - it is the emphasis on enhanced protection against malicious sites, high speed with dozens of open tabs and the introduction of innovative technologies such as sockets, web consoles or next-generation graphics.

version: 56.2.8 from 15 March 2019

Waterfox is a Mozilla Firefox based browser designed specifically for 64-bit systems. Provides safe and amazingly fast web surfing.

Initially, Waterfox developers took advantage of the fact that the official version of Mozilla Firefox for 64-bit architecture was not provided, and compiled the program core using Intel C ++ Compiler. Despite the fact that subsequently the programmers from the office of the "Fire Fox" released a version for a 64-bit OS, Waterfox continued to demonstrate higher speed than that observed in its promoted relative.

The Maxton cloud browser with advanced synchronization capabilities allows you to exchange links, files and messages through your own "cloud" storage.

The Maxthon web browser runs on two engines, Webkit and Trident, which allows you to quickly open sites that were created at different times using different tools.

A browser built on the Chromium core, which, in addition to adding the best from programs built on the same core, has solidly added to the security and privacy of the user's personal data.

Perhaps everyone who has access to the Internet has used a browser with a core from Chromium at least once, be it a browser from Google, Yandex or Rambler. Moreover, each company is trying to add some of its functions. Developers from Comodo are no exception. The Dragon browser features enhanced security and privacy for transmitted data.

version: 2.3.1440.60 from 06 March 2019

A new browser from the Opera developers based on Chromium with the Blink engine. Differs in extended functionality and increased ease of navigation.

The web browser interface is very similar to Opera 12 - there is also a sidebar, a trash bin with closed tabs and a mode for displaying pictures. At the same time, the authors have implemented a number of interesting innovations. Among them - a grouping of tabs, an integrated mail client, notes on open web pages.

Yandex Browser, Google Chrome, Opera and Mozilla Firefox occupy the top ratings in terms of functionality, security and speed. Only you can tell which browser to choose, so let's take a quick look at the features of each browser again.

If we talk about the simplicity of the interface and innovation in total, Yandex Browser will win. The developers have proven that it is possible to create a product that is equally respected by both "dummies" and professionals, and without severe restrictions for users. The browser is cross-platform, fast, stable, synchronizes with Google and Yandex services equally. In fact, it is a combination of the best qualities of the competition with two significant additions: a unique search bar with prompts and a functional bookmark bar, codenamed "scoreboard". Recommended for downloading if you are tired of template solutions and glitches. In addition, this Safe Browser on a Windows computer is "sparing" of RAM. Other Internet browsers are much more demanding on the resources of computers and laptops.

Orbitum is considered a relatively young web browser that can compete with any well-known browser, both in terms of performance when working with Internet resources, and in terms of the number of settings and tools available. Its main feature is an interactive chat that allows you to be on any page and at the same time to correspond with friends from social media. networks. Give Orbitum a try and you will be delighted with its fast web page launch speed, the benefits of using the built-in downloader and the helpful omnibox. It is a good choice of browser for your computer at home.

Less common: Amigo and K-Meleon. The latter is a serious competitor to its progenitor, Mozilla Firefox. However, while doing well in security, the K-Meleon browser falls short in the frequency of updates. The close connection of Amigo to social networks can be perceived as an advantage for regular visitors to "VK", "OK", "FB" and other social networks. But thanks to the many extensions, plugins and minimal CPU usage, the browser is smooth and glitch-free. The program will be appreciated by all categories of users.

Unfortunately, our review did not include such products as the cross-platform Comodo iceDragon, good solutions Pale Moon and Srware Iron, the only browser with advanced anonymity - the Tor browser, the once famous Netscape Navigator, Torch Browser, designed for true Rambler fans Rambler Browser. Each of them deserves special attention, which we will definitely pay in the following publications. I would also like to separately mention the good UC Browser. Its creators have recently begun to expand all over the world, they are constantly adding used chips to their brainchild, such as integration with video hosting sites. There is already a positive balance in the "strengths - weaknesses" competition, but we doubt that UC can be called a secure browser. It is often installed on smartphones without the user's consent.
