Back to the table of contentsMoving map

Introduction The moving map is the main tool of Air Navigation. It is used for real-time navigation as well as route planning and custom waypoints.

Starting with Air Navigation 5, the user can create routes / custom waypoints right on the moving map. Now it is possible to immediately add a waypoint to the active route during the flight (for example, to bypass zones with dangerous weather conditions).

By default, the moving map is centered on your current location and oriented to the North. By clicking the symbol in the upper left corner of the moving map, you can change the orientation of the map:

- & nbsp– & nbsp–

Touching the card with your finger and moving it in any direction from any mode automatically switches it to panoramic mode... In this case, the map will be oriented to the North, with the choice of the location you need.

However, the map will no longer follow the aircraft, but instead, the aircraft symbol will move across the map and possibly leave the screen, going off-screen. To return the BC symbol to the screen, press the symbol in the upper left corner of the map again.

Back to the table of contents Touching an object on the map with your finger brings up a menu with useful information... Objects that cause the menu to appear:

Waypoints: elevation of terrain, type, full point name and drive frequency, airport runway and information on the operating frequencies of ATS units. Starting from version 5.3, also included: sunrise / sunset, as well as direction and distance to the object from the current position of the aircraft.

Airspace: upper and lower limits, name, class and additional information.

Weather stations (METAR / TAF):

information on the actual and forecasted airport weather. Turn on the display of weather on the map in the map settings "Map options".

VMC - Visual Meteorologiacal Conditions, visual meteorological conditions.

Marginal VMC, bordering severe weather conditions.

IMC - Instrumental Meteorological Conditions.

You can switch the display of weather reports from the code mode to the decoded report and vice versa through the "Raw METAR / TAF" menu in the "Settings" settings.

On iPad, tapping anywhere outside of the window that appears on the screen will close it. On iPhone, you need to click on the icon with a red cross in the upper right corner of the window.

In flight mode, which is enabled by default (Flight mode), clicking on the name of a waypoint will bring up a menu prompting you to select the specified point as the active point or configure one of the devices for it.

- & nbsp– & nbsp–

By pressing this button located on top panel tools on the iPad, or on the iPhone / iPod Touch toolbar under the screwdriver icon, the user gains access to a database of waypoints and airfields.

- & nbsp– & nbsp–

Back to the top The data dashboard at the bottom of the screen displays real-time information such as: active waypoint (ID, name, direction, distance and estimated time of arrival), current GPS speed (ground speed), track, altitude from sea level according to GPS, flight altitude above the terrain (if the elevation data was installed from the built-in store), quality GPS signal.

For a high-quality determination of the location of the aircraft, it is necessary steady signal GPS, the strength of which is displayed in two colors - green and yellow. Red or Orange color the GPS symbol will allow the program to determine the location rather conditionally and will not provide information about the speed and track of the aircraft.

To improve the quality of the GPS signal, it is necessary to place the device close to a window or windshield inside the aircraft, with a direct view of the sky. Do not block the GPS antenna on the iPad, located at the top of the device. if you are flying an all-metal aircraft, or if your aircraft is equipped with an anti-icing windshield, then you will most likely need an external GPS device.

Route planning By default, the moving map is in "flight mode". You can toggle the moving map from "flight mode"

to "planning mode" at any time to create or amend a route by pressing the "EDIT" button in the Toolbar.

To create a route:

Switch to “Edit mode” and make sure that a yellow-black bar appears at the top of the moving map window. A search box will appear at the top of the Route module.

To add a waypoint, tap on the desired point on the moving map. In the window that appears, select the "Add to route" option. As a result, a yellow four-pointed star will appear on the moving map, and your point will appear in the waypoint list in the Route Module on the right side of the Route screen.

An alternative way of creating a route is to enter sequentially, one by one, several waypoint identifiers into the search window of the “Route” module, separating them with a space, and then press the Search button on the device keyboard.

Note: for quick search points near the aerodrome, usually VFR Mandatory Report Points - use the following syntax (example): [email protected], where id_point @ id_ airfield, and press Enter. This will force Air Navigation to find the closest point to the LSZG airfield with the identifier W.

- & nbsp– & nbsp–

In the “Route” module, by clicking on the route heading at the top of the “Summary” waypoint list, you can name the route and indicate the wind. Route names are used to quickly identify them in the general list of saved routes.

Wind and cruise speed will be used to calculate route flight times in route edit mode. In airplane mode, the current speed is calculated from GPS data.

The button in the upper right corner of this window will allow you to reverse the route or create a copy.

After making sure that the built route is correct, switch the program to flight mode. In this case, the route is automatically saved in the list of routes.

- & nbsp– & nbsp–

To enter full information about the aircraft, click on the blue arrow to the right of the ID of the created aircraft. Enter the data for the cruising speed and fuel consumption of the aircraft. This information will be used by the program when calculating the amount of fuel for the flight and the estimated time of arrival. In the section "Make, model, appearance" indicate the manufacturer of the aircraft, its type and the way of displaying the moving map on the screen, including the color of the aircraft symbol.

Starting from version 5.2 of the program, an option for calculating aircraft alignment and balance has been added to the aircraft profile settings. See the Weight and Balance section for more information.

To change the measurement system, go to the settings of the "Settings" program.

Do not forget to make the profile of the created aircraft active. The selected profile is marked with a green icon to the left of the ID, as shown in the picture above.

To send an aircraft profile by email, use the button in the upper right corner of the "Route" module.

- & nbsp– & nbsp–

Back to the table of contents Map Options - "Map Options"

Click the Map options button on the toolbar to access various options for displaying the moving map.

Screen brightness.

Display maps and background image.

Terrain elevation plot (see next section).

2D / 3D ground proximity warning for moving map and EFIS module.

Displaying METAR on the map - icons next to airfields.

This option requires persistent connection with the internet.

Map settings - "Maps settings"

Air space. Displays the elements of the VI structure, where you can hide / show an unnecessary type of VI. Use this option as a filter. There is also an altitude filter for displaying airspace elements. Select the desired elevation range to display the VI structure. On the other hand, you can enable / disable unnecessary VIs, or display item names on a moving map, and change the way the VI items are displayed, as shown in the screenshot below.

Waypoints. The user has the ability to filter the displayed waypoints (Airfield, Heliport, IFR, VRP, Navaid, etc.). there is also a filter for runway length and runway coverage.

Widgets. The user can enable or disable the display of the extended BC axis (orange line) and the direction to the active point (gray dashed line), as shown in the screenshot.

You can also display labels on each leg of the route showing the distance of the leg and course. Another innovation introduced in version 5.3 is runway identifiers on the center line extension to simplify the approach.

Back to the top The orange line "Extended track line" displays ETA in minutes relative to the current location of the aircraft.

Direction line gray Bearing line indicates the selected (active) waypoint.

Background color. You can choose a background color for areas where there are no maps. This is a very handy option that allows you to close empty spaces on maps, such as marine or oceanic maps, where there is no underlying surface. In these cases, for example, you can set background color- the color of the sea.

Cards. You can show / hide / overlap previous downloaded maps.

The built-in map engine of the program, starting from version 5, is able to display several maps at the same time and determine which of them should be a layer above the rest. This means you can mix it yourself. different types maps of one area.

Overlapping (Missing parts of the cards)

The screenshot on the right shows two maps:

Brazil WAC 2011 and Uruguay - Free, one above the other.

It looks like the map of Brazil is missing, but in fact this is a typical example of overlapping maps.

This problem is solved by overlapping maps:

move a map with a higher display priority up in the map list, or turn off an unnecessary map.

- & nbsp– & nbsp–

Note 1: 3D data packages include more accurate elevation data than older Free Elevation data packages. They are more complete and work both for displaying terrain in the terrain window and in the EFIS module. See the manual section "3D EFIS module".

Note 1: remember that you can turn on the display of the structure in the airspace on the terrain graph in the menu "Map options" - "Airspaces". In this case, the terrain window will look as shown in the screenshot below.

Back to Index Tools Introduction With the built-in GPS receiver and accelerometers in iPhone, Air Navigation can simulate various aircraft instruments such as HSI, ADF, CDI / VOR and altimeter.

Unlike real instruments, VIs can be configured to any waypoint in the database (airport, VOR / DME, custom waypoint, etc.).

Starting with version 5.1 of the program, it became possible to adjust the devices more accurately by pressing the setting buttons on the edges of the devices and in other ways. This applies to HSI, VOR, ADF and compass. This option is very useful when flying in turbulent conditions.

On the following pages you will find detailed description use of different devices?

which exist in Air Navigation.

In this article, I would like to summarize all the knowledge about the Air Navigation PRO application, designed for route planning and navigation in flight, performed according to visual flight rules (VFR), accumulated by me for 5 yearsits exploitation.

I would especially like to emphasize that the program is not intended for flying in accordance with the instrument flight rules (IFR). Do not attempt to replace the OEM certified navigation aids of your aircraft with this application. Like any software Air Navigation PRO has disadvantages in program code which sometimes lead to the crash of the application in flight and the need to restart it. In addition, this application is not ICAO Regulations Certified for instrument flight rules navigation.

Air Navigation PRO is available for iPhone / iPad / Mac OS X as well as Android version.

Since I do not use devices powered by Android base, then in this article I will provide screenshots and descriptions only Apple devices... Despite this, all interface elements and program settings under different operating systems are almost identical.

To use the program, you must accept and agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • Air Navigation software is not intended to replace certified navigation devices! The developers do not guarantee the accuracy and completeness of the information provided. The embedded database is provided for informational purposes only and may contain incomplete or even erroneous data.
  • In preparation for the flight, the pilot must use the official aeronautical documentation (AIP) and use certified navigation equipment during the flight.
  • This software is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied.
  • The authors or data providers are not responsible for any damage arising from the use of this software.
  • USE AIR NAVIGATION SOFTWARE AT YOUR SOLE RISK.
  • The information provided may be inaccurate.

Installing the app

To install the application on your Tablet PC or smartphone follow the link by clicking on the button below. Choose your operating system and install on your device Air app Navigation PRO in the usual way.

Attention! The application is paid.

You need a lot of space to install and run the application. Cards tend to take up most of the memory space used by an application. Depending on how many cards you use, the size of the memory used by the application can grow significantly.

I use Air Navigation PRO for flights throughout Russia and a little Europe, plus I have installed 3D databases of terrain relief for almost all of Russia, as well as some European countries, in addition to the maps. Therefore, the size of the memory that ANP occupies on my tablet is almost 35 Gigabytes.

If you plan to install a lot of cards on your tablet, then I recommend using devices with at least 128 GB of internal memory. Otherwise, you simply won't have enough space for everything else: there will be nowhere to store your music, photos and other applications.

Tip: do not install or store cards that you do not plan to use. This significantly reduces the size of the occupied memory.

Before starting the program for the first time, you must register on the developer's website to gain access to all program settings. Registration is free and takes a few seconds.Follow this link services.xample.ch , and pressing the "CONNECT" button, select the "Register" item. Enter your Email address and click the "Send email" button. In a few seconds you will receive an email at specified address, which will guide you through the next steps to register your account.
