Which digital weather station did you like?

Today you will not surprise anyone with electronic home or outdoor thermometers equipped with external sensors. However, progress does not stand still. Additional options gradually added to the functionality measuring instruments, turn electronic thermometers into weather stations for the home, capable of measuring temperature, humidity and pressure, analyzing the data obtained, and then making a forecast for 12 hours. Moreover, this forecast is much more accurate than the television one. Today we will talk about such devices, analyze the technical characteristics, and also make a rating best weather stations for home 2017-2018.

Read in the article:

Home weather stations: purpose and applications

Home weather stations are designed for monitoring the weather and not long-term forecasting, which is sometimes needed. Such devices are installed in apartments, private houses, as well as in agricultural farms, where it depends on the weather whether it is worth starting harvesting or it is worth waiting a little.

Useful information! Weather stations are equipped with a sensitive thermocouple connected to a liquid crystal display or a wireless sensor. The second option is more convenient, but at the same time its cost is higher.

Weather station for home: principle of operation and device

These devices include up to five sensors capable of responding to various weather conditions. The scheme must have:

  • base unit-receiver and LCD display, to which all data is displayed. The microcontroller of the unit collects information from sensors of humidity, temperature, wind speed and strength, precipitation. Then the data is processed, a forecast is made, lasting 12 ÷ 36 hours, which is displayed on the LCD screen;
  • sensors. They differ in fixing various weather phenomena. Execution options - wired and wireless;
  • batteries. These are batteries that provide autonomous operation, regardless of the mains;
  • software- if it is necessary to connect the model to a personal computer.

Separation of home weather stations by type

Such devices are divided into wired, wireless and professional. The latter are more expensive and require skills in handling such equipment.

Wired appliances are often budget options. The functionality is the same as for wireless ones, but the distance of the sensor installation from the unit is limited by the length of the wire. Usually it is 1.5 ÷ 5 m. In this sense, convenience wireless models, for which this distance reaches 100 m, is difficult to overestimate.

Some technical data and characteristics of home weather stations

What such devices consist of, we figured out. But what are the characteristics of this or that part of the device? Consider the nodes of meteorological stations in terms of functionality. Let's start by looking at what the average weather station chooses when buying - a liquid crystal display.

Liquid crystal display: possible design and functions

The LCD screen displays the data coming from the microcontroller. This implies that the information should be easy to read. After all, such devices are most in demand among the elderly, meteorological people, whose eyesight is worse. And with normal vision, there is no need to strain your eyes to see the display. For this, some models are equipped with a backlight that allows you to easily see the numbers even in complete darkness.

The LCD display displays all data from the sensors in real time, as well as the forecast of the expected weather in the near future.

How sensors attach to the receiver unit

The wired connection is gradually losing popularity. Wireless weather data readers are in vogue today. No wonder. While the wired sensor limits the mobility of the device by the length of the cord, wireless devices can be moved around the apartment for the distance indicated in technical documentation(from 30 to 100 m).

Another plus of wireless systems is the ability to connect two or more readers. But there is a drawback - in a strong wind, the meter can come off the mount. When installed in apartment buildings, this is fraught with the acquisition of a new one - the old one is unlikely to be found. But there is a way out - the safety of the sensor by means of a thin rope or fishing line. In this case, the meter will not fly far.

Power supply for home weather stations

Network devices are not in demand today. Who needs a device that stops working when the power goes out? For this reason, most people prefer self-powered home weather stations.

Useful information! The meter, if it is wireless, it is better to choose with a built-in battery and solar panel... This will save on periodic battery replacement. For receiver units, it is common to install batteries, such as "AA" or "AAA".

Batteries "AAA" - the most common (little fingers)

If batteries of standard sizes "AA" or "AAA" are selected, then it is worth purchasing rechargeable batteries and a charger for them. Despite the fact that they are more expensive, you will notice savings in the future - weather stations require decent power, the batteries need to be changed frequently.

Complete set of home weather stations

The standard equipment of the weather station provides one sensor containing a sensitive thermocouple and. More expensive models are equipped with sensors for precipitation, wind speed and direction, pressure. If it is necessary to install several meters, they are purchased separately.

Good to know! Budget wired models do not support connecting additional sensors. The one with which they are completed is the only one.

Home weather station with wireless sensor: additional functions

In addition to temperature and humidity, the manufacturer offers other measurements. Meteorological stations with a barometer are widespread, which is necessary for meteorological people. When installing this option, a person will be ready for changes in atmospheric pressure. A weather station with a barometer can measure pressure in different values - Pa, kg / cm3, mm / Hg. Art. All settings are made through the user menu of the device.

Important! A digital weather station with wireless sensors in a complete set is capable of creating a forecast for 36 hours with an error of 1 ÷ 2 ° С. According to the forecasting of precipitation, no errors were observed in the studies of home meteorological stations.

What weather station for home to choose: criteria and advice

When choosing such equipment, the first step is to decide on the price category. The functionality of the device will depend on it. The stations from the budget segment are simple and have minimal set options. Often this is just a wired thermometer, hygrometer, and sometimes a barometer.

Mid-range devices are more high-tech. The temperature sensors that take readings of temperature, pressure and humidity are wireless, while the receiver unit itself has the ability to connect up to five readers for various purposes.

Premium Devices - High price category... These are practically not inferior to professional ones. Equipped with a full range of functions, including wind speed and direction, measurement of altitude above sea level through geolocation, which increases the accuracy of the forecast. Such equipment can be connected to a personal computer via a USB port or via Wi-Fi.

Rating of home weather stations with a wireless remote sensor 2017-2018

Options for home weather stations with wireless sensors are different and depend on the model and manufacturer. Let's figure out what functions are inherent various brands drawing attention to some of the technical characteristics of the models in our review of the TOP-7 meteorological stations.

Weather station "Gal" and its model "WS 1501"

The design of the device can be called laconic, if not spartan. A set of basic functions, combined with a budget cost, has made the model popular for years. Distinctive feature the manufacturer is considered to have a low percentage of error in measurements. The device displays (without backlight) data on temperature, humidity (indoor and outdoor), clock, calendar and alarm clock. An interesting additional option is to display the phases of the moon on the LCD screen, which will help gardeners in planting vegetables and harvesting. Power supply - 2 batteries, "AAA" type. The charge indication is not shown on the display.

"Gal WS 1501" - not bad a budget option

Meteorological stations in the "EA2" line

Choosing this brand, you should carefully study the functionality of the models, of which there are many in the line. Each of them has its own characteristics and additional options that may come in handy. The most multifunctional device from the line can be called the EA2 EN209 model, which has a color display. Of the additional options, we note:

  • warning about the onset of frost, ice;
  • the ability to connect a sauna temperature sensor;
  • sound warning of a drop in atmospheric pressure;
  • clock, calendar, alarm clock;
  • short-term or long-term display backlight.

Meteorological complexes "La Crosse" and model "WS9057"

An accurate instrument that practically does not tolerate errors. There are all the functions necessary for forecasting, including the calculation of precipitation. The cost, which is clearly overpriced for such a device, is a little let down, but there is an overpayment for a Swiss brand.

Among the disadvantages are the lack of backlighting and the indication of the presence of precipitation. Even if it snows, the rain icon is displayed on the LCD.

Oregon Weather Station: Differences from Other Devices

Oregon is one of the pioneers of adding projectors to clocks or electronic thermometers. Interestingly enough, when the projection from the screen suddenly turns out to be located on a large wall. In the dark, this does not interfere with sleep, and if necessary, you do not need to strain these eyes. The further the device is from the wall, the larger the projection. Reviews of this model on the Internet are pretty good.

Another innovation is the platform for wireless charging tablets and smartphones. Supports three wireless sensors at a distance of up to 50 m. Power - network adapter or 2 batteries, type "AAA".

Oregon Weather Stations - Solid Average

Weather meteorological stations "AcuRite 02027 Color Weather Station with"

"AcuRite 02027 Color Weather Station with" is not even a station, but a whole weather complex that predicts the weather, taking into account many indicators. The color display gives data on the strength, speed and direction of wind, humidity, precipitation. The function of connecting to a personal computer, tablet or smartphone via Wi-Fi allows you to organize data, making the forecast more accurate. Supports manual shutdown from summer to winter time and synchronization of clocks with the Internet.

Weather station of the company "Uniel" with the model "UTV-41"

Attractive design coupled with versatility make the model popular. The location is only desktop, you won't be able to hang the device on the wall on the wall. The data is displayed on the screen in the form of luminous numbers, which eliminates the need for backlighting. Of the minuses, only a rare exchange of data with a wireless sensor.

"Uniel UTV-41" - deserved second place in our rating

RST is the leader of today's survey

Swedish devices, one of the best models of which consumers call "RST 02785". The range of communication with sensors is up to 100 m. The range of measured outdoor temperatures is from -50 to + 70 ° С, indoors - from 0 to + 50 ° С. PC connectivity provides a more accurate forecast for the next 36 hours. Of the additional options, in addition to the usual calendar, there is a zodiacal one.

RSTs are the best in today's roundup

Average cost of various home weather stations in the Russian market

You can buy a weather station for your home in household appliances and electronics stores or on Internet resources. The second option is even cheaper. However, it is worth paying attention to the seller's guarantees for the return of faulty devices and maintenance during operation. Consider at what cost you can buy a weather station (prices are as of January 2018).

Make and modelTemperature range (from / to), ° СAdditional functions Transmitter reception radius, mCost, rub.
-50/+60 Clock, Alarm, Normal and moon calendar -40/+60 Calendar, alarm clock, data saving30 1000

It turns out that if you need to buy inexpensively a home weather station with a remote sensor is not difficult, the prices are quite reasonable. The main thing is not to grab the first device that comes up, but to devote some time to the choice.

Summarize

A home weather station is undoubtedly a must and useful device... It is more convenient than the past mercury thermometers. The main thing is to approach the choice carefully and deliberately. Only in this case the weather station will serve for a long time, helping not only to navigate in clothes according to the weather, but also in short-term forecasts for the next day.

We hope that the reader has gathered the necessary information for himself from today's article. Questions, as they arise, can be asked in the comments below - our team will be happy to answer them. Write, share your experience in using weather stations for home. After all, your comment may help less experienced DIYers.

And finally, a short but informative video

Currently, the home weather station is popular. Almost everyone asks how to choose it. Yes, the choice is really rather big. Electronic appliance abounds huge amount firms, models, designs, functionality. It turns out that you can choose your home weather station according to your wishes. But you need to remember that what more features, the more accurate the data needs to be, the more expensive the instrument is.

Digital thermometers

Apart from the usual mercury thermometers, home can be hung digital. It is better to say right away that the former is preferable. But someone wants to keep up with the times or improve the design. Digital thermometers- these are also home weather stations. How to choose, the price of the device, its functionality - these and other questions concern every customer. Here are some examples of the most rated digital thermometers.

RST 02100

Its price is about 800-900 rubles. The dimensions of such a device are small. Shows both indoor and outdoor temperatures. It is possible to save previous values... The set includes a remote sensor with a three-meter wire. Based on user feedback, the readings are accurate. Please note that the device has no other functions except indoors and outdoors.

Oregon Scientific EW92

A similar device with a price of about 2,000 rubles. There is a difference in size (it is larger than previously described). The temperature is updated every 40 seconds. Warns of frost.

with multiple indications

LaCrosse WS 9057

This is a European-made model. The appearance is pleasing to the eye. Shows all required geophysical parameters. The only thing that does not show: wind speed and direction. There is a very similar model with such functions, but it costs about 17,000 rubles.

RST 02929

A weather station with a beautiful design and many indicators. The sensor on the street is able to determine the direction and speed of the wind, transmit it to the main unit. The measurement accuracy does not fail. There are almost all kinds of additional functions.

Kweller S8200

Stylish design, control buttons and settings. The display on the left shows following readings: weather forecast (figure), pressure, date and time, memory size in this moment(diagram in the form of a "pill"). On the right side of the screen, the humidity and air temperature in the room and outside the house, where the sensor is hanging, are clearly shown. The wind speed and direction are very nicely illustrated.

Home weather station with astrological calendar

There are even those on sale for those who are interested not only in weather forecasts, clocks, but also in astrology, such a home weather station is perfect. How to choose such models? In fact, the choice is not that great. Imagine again the company RST, which makes such devices. Below is the model itself with the code designation 02787. Its price is from 7000 rubles.

The display changes color depending on the weather. What data is displayed besides the astrological calendar? Outdoor and room temperatures, humidity and atmospheric pressure with indication. In the upper left corner beautiful image weather phenomena. The data accuracy is high.

How to choose a home weather station and not regret spending money? Before buying, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with all the characteristics and study the opinions of people who themselves use such devices.

Models that are better not to take

Many interested people want to buy a home weather station cheaper and with the greatest number of functions. A sample on a storefront can delight the eye with its colorful display, multiple readings. If the price is not more than 1000-1500 rubles, it is better not to flatter yourself. These are common knickknacks, not home weather stations. What to choose then? Of course, what is more expensive.

Unfortunately, the Hama weather stations are the most unreliable. The price for them most often does not exceed 1000 rubles, some cost only 500. There are plenty of functions, but, according to the reviews of users of such devices, they are completely useless. Air humidity shows incorrectly, but temperature changes occur long time, including giving false values.

You don't have to rack your brains for a long time and buy the first device you come across. But then regret the money spent. There is a problem not in the correctness of the readings, but in the settings. It is better to look at the instructions in the store. Are there any step-by-step recommendations, a sequence of actions.

Someone likes an analog device more than an electronic home weather station. How to choose in this case? Yet these are completely different things. It's one thing to buy an ordinary one that shows the temperature absolutely accurately, and another thing is a digital device from which you don't know what to expect.

Undoubtedly, a separate thermometer, barometer and other devices for determining values in the old fashioned way are much more expensive, but they are more durable, unpretentious and most accurate. And electronics require constant replacement of batteries and comparison of readings. A matter of taste for each person.

Does it make sense to buy?

Some people ask themselves: do I need this weather station at all? How useful it will be for those who suffer chronic diseases... Someone rises blood pressure when the weather changes, doctors recommend to someone to keep the air in the room dry or, conversely, humid. And some dangerous diseases require a certain temperature in the room. The home weather station will help with this. How to choose such a device with best performance and the highest accuracy, the reader already knows. A home weather station would be a good purchase. Especially if it is imperative to control and maintain the physical parameters in the room of a sick person. Many parents try to monitor the state of the newborn's room. After all, it is so important that there are no drafts, cold and heat.

Lovers of capricious and exotic plants will also be delighted with the purchase. Since it is important to observe and maintain the correct relative humidity in the room or greenhouse. Temperature is also important for plants. The gardener will know whether it is necessary to insulate the territory, or, conversely, open all windows and doors if warm and sunny weather is expected.

For the first time, the idea of buying a home weather station arose in the summer of 2010, when we all felt for ourselves what an abnormal heat is, blocking an anticyclone and smog from peat fires. For two months this was the main topic of our conversations. At first it seemed that the weather was about to return to normal, the temperature would drop a little and it would rain, but every new day presented us with another temperature record, and it seemed that it would never end.

To be honest, then I didn't care what to buy: a simple electronic thermometer or a weather station. For me, the very ability to see a specific temperature value was important. All other indicators, such as humidity and pressure, did not really matter. Nevertheless, for myself I chose not a “two hundred ruble” thermometer, but a rather expensive weather station. Why? Then there was only one reason. Unlike simple thermometers, which were equipped with only a wired external temperature sensor, the weather station that I chose for myself was equipped with one wireless sensor. It was a fundamental moment for me. Later it became clear that the wireless sensor is far from the only reason to pay attention to this particular weather station. Unlike an electronic thermometer, including models equipped with an additional humidity sensor, which simply display the received data on the screen, the weather station collects and analyzes data on temperature, humidity and pressure, tracks changes and builds a weather forecast based on them. As a result, we do not just see numbers on the screen, but understand what the weather will be like for the next 12 hours.

Perhaps someone does not really understand why all this is needed if we can always look at the smartphone screen and get about the same information? There are at least two points that distinguish a weather station from meteorological services. Looking at the smartphone screen, we see the temperature value and a certain forecast. For example, we see that outside the window is -5 ° C ;, and it is expected light snow... It seems to us that this is enough. If we look at the screen of the weather station, then we will see not only more accurate values of temperature, humidity and pressure, as well as a forecast, but also a trend of change. This is a very important feature that allows us to understand what kind of weather awaits us in the coming hours.

Selecting a weather station ...

When the idea of buying a home weather station first comes up, we don't quite know exactly what to look for first. Someone bases their choice solely on design, for others the price is important, and still others pay attention to some additional options. But, personally, my experience suggests that in addition to this, there are many, imperceptible at first glance, features that determine whether the selected weather station will become a useful and popular gadget, or it will be another dust collector that will work exactly until then, until the batteries run out.

For this survey, eight weather station models were selected from Oregon Scientific, EA2, La-crosse, RST, Carrin, Uniel, Hama, and Vitek. All models have approximately the same capabilities and belong to the same price category.

When I first set myself these models, the only thought arose that in these conditions, the choice should depend solely on the design and accuracy of measurements. However, having tried each model, I was able to discover completely different criteria that should be paid attention to when choosing. So, let's take a closer look at the features of the models under consideration and figure out what to look for when choosing a home weather station?

Oregon Scientific BAR208HG ...

I want to start exploring the capabilities of home weather stations with a model from the company Oregon Scientific... Just as Xerox is associated with copiers, Oregon is associated with weather stations. It is one of the oldest companies producing the widest range of home weather stations: from the simplest and most affordable models to semi-professional models with a large number external sensors and internet access. V recent times the company places great emphasis on integrating the home weather station with mobile devices, allowing you to display the received data on the screens of our smartphones and tablets.

Such a wide assortment made it somewhat difficult to choose a model for this review. At first I wanted to choose an advanced model with Bluetooth, but, due to the fact that other manufacturers do not have similar models, it was decided to limit ourselves to a more traditional model. BAR208HG (from 1 700 rubles). Note that all prices in this review are indicated at the time of its preparation.

This is one of the most popular models... It supports the functions of measuring temperature and humidity indoors and outdoors, for which the set includes an external wireless temperature and humidity sensor THGN132N, is able to forecast the weather for the next day, displays the moon phases and trends in temperature, humidity and pressure changes, supports clock radio synchronization and informs about different weather phenomena. In other words, it supports everything a modern weather station should be able to do.

I will begin my acquaintance with the weather station with its design features. This is the first weather station in my practice with a vertical design. Until now, I have tried to avoid these patterns. They seemed a little strange to me, but after trying BAR208HG, it became clear how wrong I was. Vertical design has one thing important advantage... It takes up a minimum of space on a table, bedside table or shelf. At the same time, information on a vertically positioned screen is perceived much easier.

The BAR208HG model has a very interesting design. Its plastic body, painted matte silver color, matches perfectly with a glossy black insert on the front side, most of which is taken up by a monochrome LCD screen with a pleasant orange backlight. The choice of orange illumination is not accidental. Unlike other options (blue, green or white), orange backlighting does not irritate the eyes.

Below the screen is the control panel. To be honest, I have always thought that the buttons on the front of the weather station are not very nice and convenient, but in the case of the BAR208HG, I did not have such thoughts. Apparently it's all about the design of the control panel, which is a continuation of the screen, the size and shape of the buttons, as well as the incredible ease of pressing.

The control panel includes only five buttons. Only three buttons are used to set the clock (Mode to select a setting parameter and up and down arrows to change the value). The MEM button allows you to view the minimum and maximum values temperature and humidity for the last 12 hours.

The green ICE ALERT LED is located at the base. It starts flashing when the outside temperature fluctuates between -2 ° C; up to + 3 ° C ;. These are the most favorable conditions for ice formation. In theory, it is difficult to assess the usefulness of this option, but in practice, using a green blinking LED turned out to be a very smart move on the part of the developer. Imagine the situation: waking up early in the morning, yawning and rubbing your sleepy eyes, you can hardly see anything on the screen, and you certainly cannot analyze these numbers. But a blinking green "light" will definitely tell you that it is frozen on the street and you will need to be extremely careful.

Let's take a look at the back of the BAR208HG. Please note that this model of the weather station only supports battery power, for which there is a special compartment in the back, where three AA batteries are installed. On the one hand, the inability to connect the BAR208HG to an outlet could be regarded as a disadvantage, but given the low power consumption of this model, thanks to which one set is enough for several months of battery life, this feature is, rather, a plus, which made it possible to freely choose the place of installation of the weather station, without being tied to an outlet.

Inside the battery compartment there are two buttons responsible for resetting the device and selecting a temperature unit, as well as an EU / UK switch. It is required when using the radio time synchronization function using signals from a transmitter located in the UK (UK) or Germany (EU). The signal from the transmitter spreads within a radius of 1500 km, and is normally received in the European part of Russia, where you need to select the EU value.

Now let's look at the design features of the THGN132N wireless temperature and humidity sensor, operating at a frequency of 433 MHz and providing a range of 30 meters.

According to the specification, the wireless sensor is capable of measuring temperatures in the range of -40 ° C; up to + 60 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C ;, and humidity in the range from 25% to 95% with a resolution of 1%.

The wireless sensor is housed in a small plastic case that can be installed on a horizontal surface or hung on a wall. On the face of the sensor there is a single LED that blinks during data transfer, which is carried out every 40 seconds.

The battery compartment is located in the back of the sensor housing. Its sophisticated design provides a high degree of protection against moisture penetration of the battery. There is a switch inside the battery compartment frequency channel and a reset button. A total of three frequency channels are supported, which allows you to connect up to three external sensors to the BAR208HG.

Someone may notice that using an external sensor on the street powered by a single "finger" battery is not a good idea. High humidity and extreme temperature fluctuations will quickly destroy the battery. I cannot agree with this. The wireless sensor is designed to operate over a wide range of temperatures and humidity. The main thing is to choose the right power source. Do not use conventional alkaline batteries or Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries. In the cold, they quickly deteriorate. It is best to use disposable lithium batteries such as the Energizer Ultimate Lithium. According to the specification, they are capable of operating in a wide temperature range: from -40 ° C; up to + 60 ° C ;. At the same time, a competent sealed design of the battery compartment will protect the battery from moisture as much as possible. As a result, one battery can last for a year, regardless of the conditions in which it will be used. Here, by the way, a balanced circuit design plays a significant role. Let me remind you that the sensor transmits information about the temperature and humidity every 40 seconds, which makes it possible to use up the battery more economically.

It's time to talk about the real capabilities of the BAR208HG weather station. Built-in temperature sensor allows you to measure temperature in the range of -5 ° C; up to + 50 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C;. The humidity sensor operates from 25% to 95% with a resolution of 1%. The attentive reader, most likely, has already paid attention to the humidity readings on the screen of my weather station, which are only 2-3%. It is worth explaining here. Similar readings appear on the screen of the weather station when the relative humidity in the room does not exceed 20%. In particular, now the temperature outside has dropped to -10 ° C; and the temperature in the heating batteries has risen, forcing me to ventilate the room more often, in such conditions the room is quickly dehumidified and the relative humidity drops below the operating range of the built-in sensor. Some weather stations display a minimum value of 20%, in others, a low humidity value is replaced by dashes, and thirdly, an incorrect value is displayed. The BAR208HG weather station belongs to the third type. An incorrect humidity value is displayed on its screen. At first it bothered me a little, but later it became clear that it doesn't matter what you see on the screen: 20%, dashes or 3%. They all mean that the humidity in the room has dropped too low and it's time to take measures to increase it.

The process of setting up the BAR208HG weather station is extremely simple and straightforward. First of all, you need to connect external sensors. In most cases, you don't need to do anything for this.

When using several wireless sensors operating on different frequency channels, I noted one feature that is worth mentioning within the framework of this material. Oregon weather stations are common enough to cause problems with neighboring sensors. In this case, you can select a different frequency channel, but it is better to force the binding of your sensor to the channel on which the neighboring sensor is operating. To do this, you need to reset your sensor immediately after resetting the weather station itself and switching to the search mode for external sensors.

After connecting external sensors, it is necessary to configure the basic parameters, where you can adjust the time (used only when the clock radio synchronization function is enabled), set the time format, current time and date. In general, from the point of view of setting, the BAR208HG weather station can be called one of the simplest and most understandable. You will be able to figure out the settings even without reading the user manual, but, nevertheless, it is better to read it. In it you will find a description of some of the features in the operation of the weather station. One of the peculiarities is that immediately after the reset, the weather forecast icon will not correspond to reality. For several days, the weather station will collect information about changes in temperature, humidity and pressure, compare them with data collected over several decades, which are stored in the device's memory, and only then will it be able to issue a forecast with a probability of 75%.

Now let's look at the screen. Traditionally, the design is divided into blocks different sizes, which displays indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, moon phases, weather forecast for the next 12 hours, warning messages, as well as the time and day of the week. Comparing different models of weather stations, I came to the conclusion that the design of the screen is of particular importance when choosing a weather station. It is not only the arrangement of the blocks that matters, but also the size of the symbols. This is what determines whether you can get the information you need from a glance at your weather station, or whether you have to peer into it for a long time to understand what is happening on the street.

The screen design in the BAR208HG model, if not the standard, then definitely one of the most convenient. A quick glance is enough to understand what is happening outside the window and what forecast awaits us for the next 12 hours. The arrows that show trends in temperature and humidity changes deserve special attention. As for pressure, in this model, the developers abandoned the traditional histogram of atmospheric pressure changes, replacing it with an arrow in the weather display unit, which tells us that the pressure is increasing, decreasing or stable. In my opinion, it is very convenient. For example, now I see that the temperature outside is rising and by lunchtime it will get a little warmer, while the pressure and humidity remain stable, which does not bode well for us sudden changes in the weather. At the same time, the temperature in the room dropped below a comfortable 23 ° C; and it's time to close the window.

Can you trust the weather forecast on the weather station screen? Quite. Feels like the probability of a correct prediction is fully consistent with the stated 75%. In addition, I noted for myself an expanded set of icons. For example, if in most models of weather stations precipitation is displayed by an icon that depicts clouds and rain, then in model BAR208HG the image changes depending on the current temperature. At negative temperatures, precipitation is displayed as clouds with snow, at positive temperatures - as rain. It may seem like a trifle to some, but I don’t think so. These winters can surprise us with rain, and looking at the pictogram, I wanted to more accurately understand what awaits me today: rain and snow or pleasant snow.

I would also like to note the messages warning me of frost, fog, storm, high winds or heat, as well as a green flashing LED, indicating a high probability of ice. I have already spoken about him above.

Please note that by default only the current time and day of the week are displayed on the screen. The developers did not begin to shallow and add the date to the screen. Thank you very much for this. If the user needs to clarify the date, he just needs to press the Mode button.

In the design of the screen, only one moment confuses me - all the inscriptions on the screen are made on English language... It is not difficult to understand them. Even if a person does not know one english word, then you can figure it out by the image of the pictograms. This could be attributed to the shortcomings of this model, but it is worth noting that none of the weather stations participating in this comparison supports the Russian language, so we will treat this as a certain feature of the current generation of weather stations.

It's time to summarize the first result. Among the advantages of the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG weather station, I want to note a practical and stylish design, ease of operation, long battery life, the ability to connect up to three wireless temperature and humidity sensors, accurate and informative forecast, a separate frost indicator (special thanks for it), and, of course, an intuitive screen, thanks to which a quick glance is enough to understand what awaits me outside the window. The disadvantages of BAR208HG include incorrect display humidity in the room at values not exceeding 20%, as well as the absence of Russian-language signatures on the screen, which is fully compensated by visual pictograms and a detailed Russian-language user manual. Besides, personally I really miss the built-in alarm clock. But the developers have their own opinion on this matter.

La Crosse WS9057

To date, about a dozen home and professional models of weather stations are represented under the La Crosse brand. Model La Crosse WS9057 The one I chose for this review is one of the most affordable in the lineup, but it also costs more than double the price of the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG. According to Yandex.Market data, today it can be buy for 4 400 rubles... Of course, I could not leave this model without my attention, especially since the manufacturer declares a number of unique features, among which the Swiss precision of measurements is especially distinguished. Let's see what we are invited to pay such a serious amount for.

The design of this model looks more like a “photo frame” with a beautiful chrome-plated baguette. It combines the advantages of horizontal and vertical design of weather stations. The user can choose between a desktop installation option and a wall mount, for which there are all the necessary mounts and pull-out stands in the back of the case. A bit confusing is the relatively large size of the weather station. If you hang the weather station on the wall, then its size seems to be optimal, but in my case, when there is a desire to install it on the bedside table, the large size becomes a problem. La Crosse WS9057 takes up double the space of the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG.

The control panel is located on the back of the case. It includes five buttons. The control panel is used to set the basic parameters of the weather station, control the alarm clock, view the minimum and maximum values of temperature and humidity, and select the frequency channel for wireless sensors.

You've probably already noticed the lack of a backlight button. The La Crosse WS9057 has no backlight, which limits its use at night. I tried to find at least some explanation for this, but alas. I did not understand what was the reason for such an illogical step on the part of the manufacturer. It seems to me that it is extremely unreasonable to equip the device with an alarm clock, hide the SNOOZE button on the back side of the case and at the same time not implement such a seemingly banal option as the screen backlight.

There is a battery compartment at the base of the case, where two large R14 batteries are installed. This is a somewhat atypical solution for weather stations. Batteries of this type are relatively large, but in the case of the La Crosse WS9057, their size does not really matter. At the same time, they provide a noticeably longer service life than conventional "finger" batteries. Although, I do not see any particular advantage in this. Separate buttons Reset is not provided in this model. To reset the weather station, you need to remove the batteries and put them back in place after about a minute.

Now let's look at the design features of the TX29DTH-IT + wireless temperature and humidity sensor. The sensor is made in a relatively compact, elongated plastic housing. The included universal stand allows the sensor to be mounted on a horizontal surface or hung on a wall.

According to the specification, the external sensor can measure temperatures in the range of -39.9 ° C; up to + 59.9 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C ;, and humidity in the range from 1% to 99% with a resolution of 1%. From the point of view of the temperature range, the TX29DTH-IT + sensor is not much different from the Oregon Scientific THGN132N sensor, but its humidity measurement range is wider, which can be written into the advantages of La Crosse WS9057.

The sensor transmits data every 4 seconds. On the one hand, this allows you to more dynamically update information on the screen of the weather station, but on the other hand, such a frequent update is not fundamentally important for a home weather station, while energy consumption increases. The developers fought this by installing two AA batteries in the wireless sensor.

To be honest, I'm not so much worried about the power consumption of the wireless sensor as the weak protection of the battery compartment from moisture and dust. It uses a simple cover without a rubber seal and other structural elements that protect the batteries. Nevertheless, after two months of using the sensor installed outside the window, I did not find any problems with oxidation of contacts and other batteries. Let's see, maybe all my assumptions are in vain.

It's time to get acquainted with the real possibilities of La Crosse WS9057. First of all, let's figure out how to connect external sensors. This model of the weather station allows you to connect up to three external temperature and humidity sensors. The connection process is reduced to sequential binding of external sensors. This is done immediately after resetting the weather station. The user must supply power to the connected sensors in series. The main thing to remember here is that the first should be the sensor that is planned to be installed outside the window. The data received from it will be used for forecasting the weather for the next 12-24 hours.

The setup process is relatively straightforward. The user is prompted to set the contrast level of the display, the shift of the clock for the correct time display when using the radio synchronization function, control of the time synchronization function via the radio channel, the format and current value of time and date, temperature and pressure units. There is nothing complicated in these parameters. Some difficulties can arise when setting a baseline value for relative atmospheric pressure. The default is 1013 hPa (1 atmosphere or 759 mm Hg). For more accurate measurements of atmospheric pressure for the conditions in which the weather station is used, it is necessary to correct this value. To do this, you need to know the normal atmospheric pressure for your location and also take into account the height (floor) above ground level. If this adjustment is too difficult for you, then I recommend leaving the default value. In addition to setting the base value of atmospheric pressure, the weather station allows you to change the sensitivity to the weather forecast. The manufacturer recommends choosing a higher sensitivity for areas with rapid changes in weather conditions. Remember that when you select a higher sensitivity, the weather forecast can change from small or short-term changes in pressure, temperature or humidity. If the weather station is used in areas with a temperate climate, then it is better to use the default sensitivity value. Otherwise, you will receive false predictions.

Now let's look at the screen. Due to its large size, the developers managed to place a lot of information, divided into four blocks. The top line displays the current time, date, or alarm and moon phase settings. The ALM / DATE button is used to turn the alarm on and off. Pressing this button displays the alarm time or date on the screen. When the date is displayed, the alarm is automatically turned off, and vice versa.

The second line displays the temperature and humidity received from the internal sensor. It measures temperature in the range of -9.9 ° C; up to + 59.9 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C ;, and humidity in the range from 20% to 95% with a resolution of 1%. La Crosse WS9057 belongs to the category of weather stations in which when the humidity of the internal sensor drops, the value displayed on the screen is frozen at a value of 20-22%. For users who have no idea how important the relative humidity parameter is, the La Crosse WS9057 has two emoticons showing the level of comfort in the room. If the humidity value is less than 40%, then a sad smiley is displayed, indicating an uncomfortable room environment. If the humidity is above 40%, a smiling emoticon is displayed, indicating that the humidity level is at a comfortable level.

The third line displays the weather forecast and the dynamics of pressure changes over the past 24 hours. Here I would like to make three points. Unlike the Oregon Scientific weather station, which displays snowfall as snow, the La Crosse WS9057 displays any rainfall as a rain icon. I personally don't like it. The second point consists in two arrows showing the trend of weather changes. You have probably already noticed that temperature and humidity trends are not displayed on the screen. The developers decided to somewhat simplify this feature and implement only the trend of weather changes. To some, this decision will seem very reasonable, but I prefer to see separate trends for the main parameters. And finally, the third point is the use of unusual pressure units. In La Crosse WS9057, the user can use hectopascals or inches of mercury. We are closer to millimeters of mercury.

Finally, the fourth line displays the temperature and humidity values from external sensors. There are no features here that I would like to draw attention to.

Despite the good grouping of parameters, I cannot call the screen design a good one. The use of a font of the same size makes the perception of information somewhat difficult. Personally, I didn’t get a sense of intuition when using the La Crosse WS9057. Every time I glance at the weather station screen, I have to strain and remember where the information I need is displayed.

Among the advantages of the La Crosse WS9057 model, I noted only interesting design enclosures and long range of wireless sensors. Otherwise, this weather station left me with a mixed opinion. Personally, I really miss the backlighting of the screen and the more thoughtful design of the elements displayed on it. As far as the Swiss precision of the sensors is concerned, here I did not get the feeling that the La Crosse WS9057 sensors are better or worse than the other weather station models reviewed in this review. The external sensor, of course, has a wider range of humidity measurement, but I will not say that this is an extremely important difference that would make me vote for this model of the weather station. As for the frequent updating of information from the external sensor (once every 4 seconds) and from the internal sensor (once every 15 seconds), I did not see much sense in this either - the temperature outside does not change so rapidly. So, the price of this model, to put it mildly, is not high enough.

Ea2 BL503

Next model from the company Eа2, specializing exclusively in weather stations. Today Ea2 produces six models of weather stations, made in the same design and differing in the set of capabilities and the amount of information displayed on the screen. For this review, I have chosen the model Ea2 BL503 (900 rubles). To be honest, a model would be better suited for this comparison. Ea2 BL508 (1,200 rubles). Unlike the 503 model, it additionally displays humidity on an external sensor and a histogram of the dynamics of changes in atmospheric pressure. But I only had a 503 model, so I will use it to form my opinion about Ea2 weather stations.

Weather station Ea2 BL503 can be called, perhaps, the most compact and slim in this comparison. Like the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG, it features my favorite vertical design, but has a few smaller sizes, which gives even more freedom in choosing the location of the weather station. Personally, I identify the design of the Ea2 BL503 with a stylish tabletop appliance.

The front side of the weather station is a monolithic glossy panel of beautiful black color. There is an LCD display with a pleasant blue backlight. Note that the blue backlight does not irritate the eyes in the dark, but the information on its background does not look as contrasting as, for example, in the case of the orange backlight used in the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG model.

The control panel is located at the rear of the case. It includes eight buttons and a hidden Reset button. There is also a compartment for three batteries. type AAA... The design of the weather station allows you to install it both on a horizontal surface, for which a special stand is included in the kit, or to hang it on the wall.

The Ea2 BL503 kit includes one external wireless temperature sensor BL999, operating at a frequency of 433 MHz and providing a range of up to 30 m. This model of the sensor is capable of measuring temperatures in the range from -40 ° C; up to + 50 ° C; which is slightly less than the range of measured temperatures of the two previous models of weather stations. But I do not see this as a particular problem. I am sure that the upper value is + 50 ° C; more than enough for most users.

On the front side of the wireless sensor there is a single LED that blinks during data transfer. Unfortunately, accurate information I have no information about the frequency of transmission of information, but, according to my observations, it is once every 30 seconds.

The design of the wireless sensor provides for installation on a horizontal surface or on a wall, for which there is a folding stand and a mounting hole in the back of the case. Special attention should be paid to the design of the battery compartment, where two AAA batteries are installed. There is also a switch for selecting a frequency channel and a reset button. In addition to the strong screw fastening, the compartment has a rubber gasket, which prevents moisture and dust from entering the compartment.

At first glance, the functionality of the Ea2 BL503 model is not much different from other models of weather stations, but on closer acquaintance, I noticed a number of unique functions that you will not find in other models.

Overview real opportunities Ea2 BL503 will traditionally start with the peculiarities of connecting an external sensor and setting the basic parameters. The process of connecting an external sensor is somewhat different from that used in other models of weather stations. Ea2 BL503 supports two connection modes: automatic and forced. In automatic mode, the weather station starts looking for external sensors immediately after switching on. The sensors start transmitting data as soon as the frequency channel is selected and power is applied. The search process takes 3 minutes. If later it becomes necessary to connect additional sensors (the weather station allows you to connect up to 3 external sensors), then you do not need to reset the weather station. It is enough to press and hold the Channel button for three seconds, which will start the forced search mode for external sensors. This is one of the unique features of the Ea2 BL503. Why? Now you will understand everything.

The process of setting the basic parameters of the Ea2 BL503 is also different from other weather stations, and includes two stages. First, let's set up the weather forecast. To do this, select the icon that most closely matches the current weather outside the window. After that, the weather station analyzes the received data on temperature and pressure for 6 hours.

Next, you need to set up the clock. On the official website there is information that this model supports the function of radio synchronization of the clock, but in practice I still do not understand if it is here or if it is an error in the description. The time is set in manual mode. Moreover, the user can set not only the date, hours and minutes, but also the seconds, as well as select the language for displaying the day of the week. This is the only moment where the Russian language is supported.

The Ea2 BL503 supports a second watch, which will be useful to those of us across multiple time zones. In the settings of the second clock, the user can only set the clock. The minutes and date, of course, remain unchanged.

In addition to two hours, the Ea2 BL503 has two independent alarms with support for the Snooze function, which will allow you to postpone the alarm again for another 8 minutes.

Now let's look at the design of the screen. If you have carefully read the review, then, most likely, you can already independently evaluate the efforts of the developers. The first thing I noticed is the frost indicator, implemented as a snowflake in the upper right corner of the screen. It's certainly not as intuitive as the green LED in the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG weather station, but it's also convenient. In addition, depending on the temperature on the first external sensor, the design of the precipitation icon changes. For example, if it is minus outside, then the icon of snow going will be displayed on the screen. Also in this model there are arrows showing the change in atmospheric pressure and outside temperature. But for the internal temperature and humidity sensor, there is no trend, which, in general, is not fatal.

For additional convenience of information perception, the developers used a different size of symbols to display the temperature inside and outside the room, time and date.

Like the other two weather station models, the Ea2 BL503 has a fairly high probability of weather prediction and measurement accuracy. In particular, the internal temperature sensor works in the range of -9.9 ° C; up to + 50 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C ;, and humidity in the range from 20% to 99% with a resolution of 1%. At very low humidity values, the display shows a minimum value of 20%.

In general, the Ea2 BL503 weather station caused me positive emotions. Made in a miniature and stylish design, it will be a great addition to your desk or bedside table. At the same time, it differs in a rather convenient arrangement of elements on the screen, supports the option of indicating frost and correct display of precipitation depending on the temperature outside the window. In addition, it is worth noting the support of two independent clocks, an alarm clock with the Snooze function and a very affordable price.

What did I dislike about this model? First, the location of all buttons on the back of the case, which causes a problem, for example, when using the Snooze function. Personally, such an alarm clock would have already flown away somewhere. It would be wiser to implement the Snooze / Light button on the front of the device as a kind of touch circle. Secondly, blue backlighting and not very high contrast of the image on the screen. In the dark, it can be difficult for me to see the image on such a screen. Thirdly, the lack of the ability to measure humidity on external sensors. The Ea2 BL508 model is better suited for this, but looking at its photos, it becomes clear to me that the display of humidity on the external sensor negatively affected the overall ergonomics of the device. In order to fit on the screen the humidity values for the internal and external sensors, as well as the histogram of pressure changes, the developers had to place the elements more densely on the screen and reduce their size. As a result, the screen became almost unreadable.

Hama EWS-390

Studying the range of weather stations presented on the official Hama website, I got the feeling that this company can seriously compete with Oregon Scientific. Select the desired model from the range offered, it was not easy, but I still managed to find a model that is perfect for this review. We are talking about the Hama EWS-390 weather station. According to the specification, in terms of functionality, this model is very close to the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG and La Crosse WS9057, but at the same time it costs from 1,450 rubles.

Even though the manufacturer uses my favorite vertical design and reasonable placement of some of the control panel buttons, overall, the design of this weather station disappointed me. Its shape and large borders around the screen make it look like a thermometer in a bath. It seems that when approaching it, a person should squint his eyes and tap the screen with his finger.

Such strange associations arise not only due to the design of the weather station, but also due to the large amount of information displayed on the screen, which required a very dense arrangement of elements, which does not allow assessing the meteorological situation by throwing a cursory glance at the screen. At night, I have to turn on the backlight twice to see the time and understand what is happening outside the window. By the way, about the backlight. Here I would very much like to say that the screen has a pleasant blue backlight, but I did not find anything pleasant in it. In addition to the fact that black images of symbols and pictograms are difficult to distinguish against a blue background, when it is turned on, a quiet but clearly distinguishable buzz is heard.

In addition to the screen, the main control panel is located at the bottom of the front side of the case. With its help, the user can configure the basic parameters, set or view the alarm time, display the minimum and maximum values of temperature and humidity, change the channel for viewing data from several external sensors, and also set the temperature range, upon exiting which the weather station will issue a warning.

The quality of the control panel caused me a couple of comments. The buttons are very hard with a sharp and loud click. This applies not only to the buttons on the front of the device, but also to the Snooze / Light button located on the top edge of the case. In my opinion, such devices should use buttons with a very soft, silent movement.

Now let's look at the back of the weather station, where there is a battery compartment for two AA batteries and an additional control panel for setting the barometer parameters. With its help, the user can select the unit of pressure measurement, adjust the baseline value taking into account the altitude, and also view the history of pressure changes.

The design of Hama EWS-390 provides for the possibility of desktop installation of the device, for which there is a removable stand in the back of the case, and also provides the possibility of wall mounting.

The wireless sensor has a familiar design. On its front side there is a small LCD screen, which displays temperature and humidity values, frequency channel number and battery charge status. There is also an LED indicator that blinks about once every 40-50 seconds.

The external sensor can be installed on any horizontal surface or hung on the wall. The back of the case contains a battery compartment for two AA batteries, a frequency channel switch, buttons for selecting the temperature units and resetting the external sensor. Pay attention to the design of the battery pack, around the perimeter of which there is a rubber gasket that protects the batteries from moisture and dust.

According to the specification, the external sensor measures the temperature in the range of -10 ° C; up to + 60 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C;. I am somewhat confused by the lower limit of the temperature range. It seems to me insufficient for full use external sensor. Perhaps this is a typo in the operating instructions, but so far it is not possible to verify this. The temperature outside has not yet dropped below ten degrees below zero.

Humidity measurement range is 25% to 95% with 1% resolution. This is the typical value for most hygrometers used in most home weather station models.

Despite the not very successful design, too dense placement of information on the screen and a strange font that makes it difficult to read, the Hama EWS-390 weather station has quite interesting capabilities. First of all, I would like to draw your attention to the features of the built-in barometer. Unlike the La Crosse WS9057 model, the Hama EWS-390 weather station supports the display of the atmospheric value in mm. mercury column, and also offers a simplified baseline setting in which the user must specify a value for the height above sea level. The accuracy of the weather prediction depends on how accurately the base value is set. As with other home weather station models, the Hama EWS-390 has a 75% weather prediction accuracy. The screen displays an extended set of weather icons, including split precipitation in the form of rain and snow, as well as a weather trend. For meteorological people, it will be important to see the dynamics and history of changes in pressure and the phase of the moon.

Built-in temperature sensor works in the range of -5 ° C; up to + 50 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C;. The built-in hygrometer measures humidity in the range from 25% to 90% with a resolution of 1%. The weather station screen displays not only values from internal or external sensors (it is possible to connect up to three sensors), but also tendencies of these parameters change.

Next to the indoor humidity value, an icon of the indoor comfort level is displayed, which is defined by three states: COM (pleasant (maybe “comfortable” is better?)), WET (too humid) and DRY (too dry). The comfort level is determined by the value of temperature and humidity. For example, comfort (COM) conditions are considered to be at a temperature of 20-25 ° C; and relative humidity ranging from 40 to 70%.

Enough useful function I consider a warning when the temperature goes out of the set range. This function is only available for an external sensor. By default, the minimum value is -50 ° C; and the maximum is + 70 ° C ;. What confuses me here? Let me remind you that in the specification for an external sensor, the minimum temperature is only -10 ° C; Against this background, the minimum value is -50 ° C; seems strange. So, there is a feeling that the value of the minimum temperature in the specification of the external sensor is indicated with an error.

The clock used in the Hama EWS-390 supports the radio sync function. If desired, you can disable this function and set the clock manually. The built-in alarm clock deserves special attention. The user can configure a one-time alarm, sound on certain days, or select the frost warning mode by an early alarm. On the one hand, support for frost warnings can be written as a plus for this model, but the implementation of this function is not entirely clear to me. I don't understand why you need to wake me up in advance if the temperature outside dropped below -2 ° C ;?

If the developers of the Hama EWS-390 model more carefully approached the design of the weather station, the construction of some of its elements, and also implemented a more intuitive arrangement of elements on the screen, then, thanks to the rich set of possibilities, it could be put on a par with the best models weather stations. But so far this model occupies one of the last places in my rating. Still, it is extremely important for me to be able to see and analyze the meteorological situation outside the window, throwing a quick glance at the screen of the weather station. This is not here. Even after two months, I still did not get used to it, constantly confusing the values of temperature and humidity. In addition, for me personally, the function of displaying the history of atmospheric pressure and moon phases turned out to be absolutely useless, and the implementation of the frost warning function seemed so strange that now I go around and rack my brains trying to answer the question: how are frosts associated with an alarm clock? But with all this, I want to note that the Hama EWS-390 is not the worst option yet.

Carrin MC-108 BLACK

Another roughly unfortunate approach to weather station design is the untitled weather station. The box only says MC-108 BLACK. But upon closer inspection of the box, it became clear that this model is from the Hong Kong company Carrin Electronics, which represents a fairly large line of home weather stations, however, its official name Carrin KW9008W-SM. By the way, it is under this name that she is listed in Yandex.Market, where her can be bought for about 1,400 rubles... I will not go into all the tricks with the name of this model, and will use the name given to the box.

Looking at the design of this model, you immediately understand where it comes from. A glossy black case with strongly rounded edges, combined with a silver insert on the front side and chrome buttons, tells me a kind of idea of how a modern home accessory should look like. Regardless of what opportunities the developers have laid down in this model, I do not want to see it at home.

Despite the relatively large screen size, in order to see at least something on it, you need to peer for a long time. The screen has a green backlight. Its legibility is noticeably better than against a blue backlight, but in the dark, the bright green light is more irritating to the eyes than, for example, the pleasant orange light in the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG.

Below the screen is the main control panel, which is functionally similar to the control panel in the Hama EWS-390 model. With its help, the user can configure the basic parameters, turn the alarm on and off, control the Snooze function and the backlight. I note that, despite the use of chrome buttons, in terms of ergonomics this panel management made a good impression on me. It uses soft and almost silent buttons.

There are additional six buttons on the back of the case. With their help, you can configure the weather forecast, select the temperature units, enable the display of absolute or relative atmospheric pressure, view the history of pressure changes and the maximum / minimum values of temperature and humidity, select the channel of the external sensor and set the parameters for calculating the time of sunrise / sunset, and moon.

Here, on the back side of the case, there is a battery compartment for installing three AAA batteries, a pull-out stand and a loop for mounting the weather station on the wall.

The external wireless sensor operates at 433MHz and has a range of 30 meters. Information is transmitted approximately once every 40 seconds. The external sensor has a wider temperature range. It allows you to display the outside temperature in the range of -50 ° C; up to + 70 ° C ;. The humidity measurement range is typical for this class of devices (20% to 99%).

The external sensor housing has a small LCD screen that displays the temperature and humidity values, as well as the frequency channel number. The external sensor is designed for desktop or wall mounting.

On the back there is a battery compartment for two AA batteries. Its design provides protection against moisture and dust ingress. Inside the compartment there are: a frequency channel switch, a temperature unit selection button and a reset button.

One of the features of the external sensor is the ability to connect a wired sensor with a length of about 1.5 meters. The manufacturer recommends installing the wireless sensor outside the window only at temperatures from 0 ° C; up to + 50 ° C ;. At subzero temperatures, it is recommended to use a wired sensor, with the outdoor unit installed inside the room. The main reason for such a strange approach is the problem of using alkaline batteries at low temperatures, but above we have already raised this issue and found out that when using lithium batteries The wireless sensor can work normally even at -30 ° C .; So a wired sensor can be useful in two ways. Firstly, when it is not possible to fix the external sensor outside the window, and, secondly, when the temperature drops below -40-50 ° C; But it is not very clear whether the wired sensor can handle such low temperatures.

Studying the capabilities of the Carrin MC-108 BLACK weather station, I noticed that functionally it combines the capabilities of the Ea2 BL503 and Hama EWS-390 models, but at the same time it has its own individual characteristics.

The Carrin MC-108 BLACK Weather Station uses exactly the same forecast setting method as the Ea2 BL503. Having set the date and time, the user must select the icon that best matches the weather outside the window. This is a fairly simple and effective way to link the weather forecasting mechanism to a specific area. When displaying the precipitation icon, the weather station takes into account the temperature on the external sensor. If it is above zero, then rain is displayed. Snow is displayed at subzero temperatures. Also in this model there is a frost indicator, which is displayed in the form of a "snowflake" on the screen of the weather station. I have already noted above that similar way informing about frost and possible icing is extremely ineffective.

The built-in temperature sensor has a range of -20 ° C; up to + 50 ° C; however, the description for this model indicates a range from 0 ° C; up to + 50 ° C ;. The measuring range of humidity on the internal sensor is the same as on the external one and ranges from 20% to 99%.

The weather station screen displays the temperature and humidity parameters for the internal and external sensors, the trend of the parameters on the external sensor, as well as the comfort level based on the values of the internal sensor. Here I first encountered lies on the screen of a weather station. Today, when the humidity level in the room has dropped below 20% and all weather stations are talking about an unfavorable environment, Carrin MC-108 BLACK says that everything is fine.

Model Carrin MC-108 BLACK supports only manual time and date setting and has two built-in alarms. In addition, the screen displays the dynamics of pressure changes over the last 12 hours, the Carrin MC-108 BLACK weather station displays the time of sunrise / sunset and the moon, as well as the length of daylight hours. For this function to work, you must correctly set the date and time, as well as set the region in which you are located. In the base of the weather station, there is not so much a list of cities. For example, for Russia, only St. Petersburg is present. For this city, the function for calculating the time of sunrise and sunset works stably, but it cannot be used for other cities. So we can assume that a fifth of the screen is wasted. The manufacturer would be better off using this space to create a more ergonomic presentation of information.

Without paying due attention to the design and ergonomics of the weather station, the developers decided to surprise us with its capabilities. To be honest, they were not surprised. On the contrary, having implemented many unnecessary functions, they managed to create one of the most inconvenient and uninteresting weather station models I have ever come across. Even if among my readers there are those who find the design of this model interesting, they will soon understand that it is not possible to use it normally. Too small size of characters and their dense arrangement will make even a person with good eyesight look closely at the screen, not to mention those who wear glasses.

VITEK VT-3533 SR

A dozen models are presented under the VITEK brand. Among them there are models made in a beautiful design and with interesting features. But for this comparison the model is suitable VT-3533 SR... According to its capabilities and price ( about 1,300 rubles) it is closer to the models included in this material.

VITEK VT-3533 SR is the only model in this review made in horizontal design... At first glance, its matte black body matches well with the aluminum bezel around the screen. In my opinion, general impression slightly spoil the chrome buttons of the control panel located below the screen.

The relatively large screen has a pleasant blue backlighting and more or less ergonomic arrangement of elements on the screen. However, in my opinion, this arrangement is more suitable for watches with an electronic thermometer. It would be wise for a weather station to increase the size of the weather forecast icon and make the readings from the external sensor larger. But this is just my opinion. Someone May Like The Size And Placement various elements... The real disadvantages include a small viewing angle. The numbers on the screen are clearly visible only from a certain viewing angle. It is worth placing a weather station just above or below eye level, and the image fades or disappears altogether.

Let's take a look at the back of the VITEK VT-3533 SR. There is a battery compartment for installing three AAA batteries, a stand for installing the weather station on a horizontal surface, and two hinges for placing the device on the wall.

Overall, the design and construction of the VITEK VT-3533 SR could be called quite satisfactory, but the stand in the back of the case spoiled my first impression a little. It provides a large tilt angle of the weather station. In combination with the low viewing angles of the screen, this somewhat limits the choice of location for this weather station. For example, if you put it on the bedside table, then in order to see at least something on the screen, you have to turn your head up a lot. In general, it is very inconvenient.

The wireless temperature and humidity sensor in the VITEK VT-3533 SR model operates at 433 MHz and has a typical range of 30 meters. On the front side of the external sensor there is a screen that displays temperature and humidity, as well as the selected frequency channel.

The temperature sensor works in the range of -40 ° C; up to + 60 ° C ;. The operating range of the humidity sensor is 20% to 90%. At outdoor temperatures below -20 ° C; the manufacturer recommends installing the outdoor unit indoors, and taking the wired sensor outside the window. In this case, only the outside temperature will be displayed on the screen of the weather station. Humidity readings will be read from a sensor installed inside the outdoor unit, i.e. indoors. This applies to all models of outdoor units equipped with an additional sensor. Is it important or not? If the device is used at very low temperatures, then measuring the humidity outside the window is not as important as at low freezing temperatures. In severe frosts, the air freezes so much that the air humidity drops below the air humidity in the desert. If it is down to -10 ° C outside; then the humidity value will allow you to estimate how comfortable it is outside. For example, in low humidity, you will feel comfortable even in severe frost. If the humidity is high, then the discomfort will be felt even at -5 ° C;

The back of the case houses a battery compartment for two AA batteries. There are also buttons for changing the frequency channel and selecting the unit of temperature measurement.

A feature of this external sensor model is an external wired temperature and humidity sensor. Someone will find such a solution interesting, but not me. A dangling wire that cannot be disconnected from the external unit will definitely interfere.

VITEK VT-3533 SR weather station supports a basic set of functions, including displaying temperature and humidity from external and internal sensors, temperature trends on both sensors, indoor comfort level, weather forecast and moon phase. In addition, there is a warning function when the temperature exceeds the set range.

The clock and date are set only in manual mode. VITEK VT-3533 SR does not support radio sync mode. I did not find any interesting features in the clock mode, alarm clock, as well as in the weather station mode. I would like to draw your attention to just a few points that cause confusion in me. The weather forecast function works according to the same algorithm as in most other weather station models. The calculation is based on changes in pressure, temperature and humidity on the outdoor unit. Note that if the user decides to use a wired temperature sensor, the weather readings will be erroneous. The fact is that in this case, humidity measurements on the outdoor unit are made indoors. When displaying a weather forecast, the manufacturer limited himself to a standard set of icons (sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy and precipitation). Moreover, precipitation is always displayed as rain, regardless of the actual outside temperature. The last point concerns the implementation of the function that warns about the outside temperature out of the specified range. She monitors changes in temperature on the outdoor unit and, if it goes beyond the limits, user-installed, emits a short beep every minute until the temperature returns to normal. I don't really know the situation in which this function can be useful. I can understand if we were talking about the temperature in the room, when the weather station would allow us to control the temperature, warning us about the need for airing in time, but why control the temperature outside I don’t understand.

In my opinion, VITEK VT-3533 SR is not the most successful attempt to make a comfortable weather station. On the one hand, the use of different sizes of symbols on the screen, in combination with some of the functions inherent in modern weather stations, distinguishes this model favorably from the weather stations Hama EWS-390 and Carrin MC-108 BLACK, but on the other hand, a somewhat strange approach to placing information on screen, low viewing angles, not entirely clear purpose of some functions, make this model more like a watch with an advanced electronic thermometer and hygrometer. I cannot consider it as a weather station.

Uniel UTV-81

Under the Uniel brand, a fairly interesting line of weather stations is presented that support basic functionality, and distinguished by an unusual design. Looking at them, you immediately understand that, while developing these models, the manufacturer devoted a lot of time to ergonomics. This allows Uniel weather stations to assess weather conditions with a quick glance at their weather station screen.

The model that I chose for this comparison was named Uniel UTV-81 (1,890 rubles). She surprised me with her simplicity and brevity. The miniature design and functional set make this model similar to the Ea2 BL503 weather station, but from the point of view of ease of information perception, it made me associate with the Oregon Scientific weather station.

The Uniel UTV-81 has an unusual slim design. Its body, painted in a beautiful matte gold color, matches well with the black insert that frames the screen. The main body is only 15-17 mm thick. This was achieved thanks to one trick. The developers have moved the battery compartment outside the main body of the case, placing it in the center at the back of the case.

The design of the case provides for the installation of the weather station on any horizontal surface or wall mount. In this case, the desktop stand that acts as the battery compartment cover must be replaced with a cover with a wall mount loop.

The weather station control panel is located under the battery compartment cover. It includes only two buttons, which are responsible for switching to the setting mode and changing parameters.

The external temperature and humidity sensor operates at 433 MHz and has a range of 30 meters. According to the specification, the wireless sensor is capable of measuring temperatures in the range of -40 ° C; up to + 60 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C ;, and humidity in the range from 25% to 95% with a resolution of 1%.

A distinctive feature of this model of the outdoor unit is a wired temperature sensor. I have already expressed my opinion on the use of a wired sensor more than once. In this case, I want to note the lack of the ability to disable it. I don't like this very much. When placing the outdoor unit outside the window, you need to take care that the wired temperature sensor does not dangle in the wind and does not come into contact with the wall, ebb and window frame, which can negatively affect the temperature readings. If you want to place the outdoor unit inside the room, taking out only the wired sensor outside the window, then it is worth remembering that the hygrometer is located inside the case of the outdoor unit, so it will measure room humidity, which will negatively affect the accuracy of weather prediction.

In the back of the external sensor there is a compartment for two AA batteries. There is a frequency channel switch and a reset button inside the compartment. The design of the compartment and the screw fastening ensure that the batteries are protected from moisture and dust.

Functionally, the Uniel UTV-81 weather station is very similar to the Ea2 BL503 model. The screen displays time and date, weather forecast and change in atmospheric pressure, as well as temperature and humidity from external and internal sensors. The design of the screen deserves special attention. The developers used large enough images of symbols and pictograms to facilitate the perception of information on the screen. A quick glance is enough to see the current time and weather forecast for the next 12 hours. As for the temperature and humidity inside and outside the room, there is some confusion here. The equal size of symbols and their arrangement do not allow a quick assessment of the meteorological situation. The only thing that helps to distinguish the temperature readings on the external and internal sensors are small icons with the image of a house and the inscriptions IN and OUT. But, to be honest, they don't help much either.

To set up the weather forecast, the user does not need to make any presets. The weather station independently analyzes the change in temperature, humidity and pressure for several hours and will give a weather forecast. As in other models of weather stations, the forecast accuracy is 70-75%. The Uniel UTV-81 model uses an extended set of icons to display the weather forecast. It not only includes separate image icons for rain and snow precipitation, but also has a separate image for storm rain.

The internal temperature sensor works in the range of -5 ° C; up to + 50 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C;. Based on the temperature readings from an external sensor, the Uniel UTV-81 model has a frost warning function. However, unlike other models, the "snowflake" appears in conditions when the temperature drops to + 3 ° C; Personally, I don't see much point in such warnings. Yet the most effective warning feature is Oregon Scientific.

The hygrometer measures humidity in the range from 25% to 95% with a resolution of 1%. It is worth noting here that at lower humidity values, the screen displays a real value that does not exceed 20%.

Overall, the Uniel UTV-81 weather station leaves me a very good impression. Stylish design combined with high quality production, as well as a well-thought-out design of the screen, make this model quite interesting for home use. But it is not without its drawbacks. Most significant disadvantage I consider this model the lack of backlighting, which makes it impossible to use it in the dark. In addition, the Uniel UTV-81 does not have an alarm clock and does not show the trend of temperature and humidity changes. In my opinion, this is very important parameters for a more accurate understanding of the current weather and what awaits us in the coming hours.

RST 02555

According to Yandex Market, today the RST brand represents the largest line of weather stations made in different designs and with different capabilities. For this review, I chose the very interesting model RST 02555. It attracted me with its combination of design and advanced functionality, which makes it the most similar to the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG weather station, which I consider to be one of the most competent models in this comparison.

Externally, weather station RST The 02555 resembles the Uniel UTV-81 but is even more compact. On the front side there is a large LCD display with excellent contrast, which makes it possible to distinguish images normally from any viewing angle.

In the back of the case there is a compartment for installing two AA batteries, and a control panel that includes four buttons used to configure the basic parameters of the weather station.

The design of the weather station implies the possibility of wall mounting and installation on any horizontal surface, for which a small stand is included in the kit.

The external wireless temperature sensor included in the RST 02555 kit is perhaps one of the thinnest, yet it has one unusual design feature that I will bring to your attention a little later. The external unit operates at a frequency of 433 MHz and has a range of 30 meters. On the front side there is only a bright LED that blinks at the time of data transfer, approximately once every 48 seconds. The external temperature sensor works in the range of -40 ° C; up to + 60 ° C; with a resolution of 0.1 ° C;.

The manufacturer recommends using the wireless sensor outside the window at a temperature not lower than - 20 ° C; At lower temperatures, it is recommended to use a remote wired sensor hidden behind back cover external block. This is the very feature that I promised to tell you about above. Unlike the outdoor unit of the Uniel UTV-81 model, the design used in the RST 02555 provides a more accurate and convenient storage wired sensor.

Speaking about the use of a wired temperature sensor in the RST 02555 model, I want to note that, unlike other models, it is quite justified here. The fact is that the external unit does not have a humidity sensor, which, on the one hand, is a disadvantage of this model, but on the other hand, it allows you to freely use a wired temperature sensor without worrying that an external sensor placed in the room will give incorrect readings humidity.

The functionality of RST 02555 is somewhat different from other models of weather stations considered in this comparison. The fact is that RST 02555 is not really a weather station. The manufacturer calls it a barometric station with a temperature measurement function. It has no humidity sensors or an alarm clock. The main focus is on measuring pressure and temperature, thanks to which the weather forecast function was implemented well. In fact, its implementation is very similar to the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG model. Only in BAR208HG did the developers share the main pictograms and warnings for high winds, heat and other special weather conditions. Here everything is implemented in the form a large number pictograms. It is difficult to say which option is more convenient. The implementation of Oregon Scientific is clearer to me.

The manufacturer paid great attention to the display of atmospheric pressure values. In addition to the absolute pressure value in mm Hg, a differential barometer is displayed on the screen, allowing you to see the dynamics of pressure changes over the last 3 hours. Thanks to this data, the user can make an updated weather forecast.

Built-in thermometer works in the range of -10 ° C; up to + 60 ° C ;. Minimum and maximum temperature values are stored for each sensor. For added convenience, the developers have used different symbol sizes for the external and internal sensor. Thanks to this, a quick glance at the screen is enough to understand what awaits you outside the window. In addition, the display of the temperature trend is supported for the external sensor, as well as the frost warning, which appears when the temperature outside the window is in the range from -3 ° C; up to + 1 ° C ;.

In general, thanks to the successful combination of design and correct presentation of information, the model RST 02555 leaves a positive impression on me. However, when choosing it, you should remember that its functionality is somewhat limited. You will only be able to use it for forecasting the weather, while for time, date and indoor comfort, you will have to use some other gadget.

Conclusion

It's time to take stock and figure out what to look for when choosing a home weather station? If you have carefully read the review, then most likely you have already drawn certain conclusions for yourself. Obviously, in terms of the accuracy of temperature, humidity, pressure and weather prediction measurements, everything modern models are very similar to each other and differ only in sensitivity and inertness, used sensors and algorithms for displaying information on the screen. Some models, such as the La Crosse WS9057, update information every four seconds, while all other models do this every 30-60 seconds. As a result, the La Crosse WS9057 sensor seems to be more sensitive and accurate. In fact, this is not the case. It just changes the value on the screen more often.

The design of a weather station is certainly an important, but very individual selection criterion. Here it is worth paying attention not only to the appearance of the device and the angle of inclination when installed on a horizontal surface, but also to the implementation of the control panel, the convenience of placing the buttons and the absence of clicks. In this sense, I really liked the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG model. The balanced case design, the right buttons and the pleasant orange backlight make it very comfortable to use everyday use... The models from Ea2, Uniel and RST also seemed interesting, but the not very successful control panel in the Ea2 BL503 and the lack of backlighting in the Uniel UTV-81 and RST 02555 make them not as interesting as the Oregon weather station.

Should you pay attention to the large amount of information displayed on the screen? Definitely not. The set of information displayed must be balanced. Using the Hama EWS-390 and MC-108 BLACK models as an example, you could see that most of the additional data is not particularly valuable and just takes up useful space on the device's screen. It is much more important to pay attention to how the information is presented on the screen. Has the manufacturer paid special attention to this issue or arranged everything as it fit? In my opinion, this is one of the main points to which you need to pay attention. Remember that how conveniently the information is presented on the screen depends on whether you can use this weather station or it will turn into another useless gadget in your home. In this sense, I have identified three models for myself. The information is best located on the Oregon Scientific BAR208HG screen. The manufacturer has carefully considered the placement and size of the symbols, allowing you to get a complete picture of the weather, even with a cursory glance at the device. In addition, they abandoned the standard freeze indicator on the screen, implementing it in a video of a small green LED that blinks when the outside temperature is in the range of -2 ° to + 3 ° C. This made the perception much easier. important information... It is enough to notice the blinking LED with a peripheral vision and you already understand that it can be very slippery outside. Apart from the Oregon Scientific model, I really liked the layout of the information on the screen of the RST 02555, but the lack of humidity information made it not as interesting as the BAR208HG.

The presence of a wired temperature sensor is not an argument for choosing a particular model. Rather, the opposite. An outdoor unit with a wire sticking out of it can be a good reason to exclude this model from the comparison. Above, I have repeatedly said that when using the correct batteries, the external sensor will be effective even at very low temperatures. If the presence of a wired sensor is fundamentally important for you, then I recommend paying attention to the MC-108 BLACK model. I have many complaints about this model. I do not like its design, green backlighting of the screen and too dense placement of information, which makes it difficult to perceive. But in terms of external sensor implementation, she has a lot to learn. No less interesting was the RST 02555 model, the wired sensor of which is hidden inside the case of the external unit. But here it is worth remembering that this model does not know how to measure humidity.

The high price is also not an argument in favor of this or that model. We have witnessed that much more expensive models cannot offer anything special, and in some cases they are even inferior to more affordable models of weather stations.
