Checking whois services. Best WHOIS Services

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. We have already discussed, dismantled and even found out where you can. All this is wonderful. The site needs to be hosted somewhere and the choice of hosting in this regard is very important. But the site also needs a name (domain). Without this, nothing will work.

However, the problem is that every year it becomes more and more difficult to pick up something more or less intelligible. At the moment, there are already about half a billion registered domain names in the world, and this number is constantly increasing.

Do you have any ideas for a future name for the site? Great, all that remains is to check if it is still busy (see below for how to do this). By the way, some hunt, because there, along with a good name, you can get a little more residual weight from the site posted on it earlier. But first things first.

The problem with the selection of domains and why they need to be checked?

So, your future (or existing, for example) site needs a name. You yourself understand that in many ways it will be decisive in the fate of the Internet project (as you call the boat, so it will float). But the problem is that everything more or less sonorous and cool has already been sorted out (at least in popular domain zones). It looks like the situation with - everything is already taken.

Agree that the variant of the name for the site 3lsl6lshf9940dk0.ru looks original (and with one hundred percent probability it will not be occupied by anyone), but it is unlikely that anyone will be able to reproduce this from memory. And this is very important - domain memorability. Here it would be logical to give the site some short name to make it easier to remember and type.

But many years ago, almost all domain zones ran out of free three-character domain names (such as 2IP) and now they can only be bought from cybersquatters (domain speculators who buy the most promising options with the hope of future resale) for big money. Agree that this is not our method. The same goes for four-character domain names.

So we have only one way left - to turn on the fantasy to the maximum and try to come up with something that others have not thought of or have not thought of in this direction at all. All in all, creativity is welcome. I picked up a domain for my blog for two days, probably. I checked a lot of options - everything was already taken. This name came to mind (the song of Andrei Mironov was spinning in my head), I checked it and was incredibly surprised that it was free.

Where can I check the domain for employment (pick up a free one)?

All registrars take data on whether a particular domain is free from one database (access to it is obtained according to the protocol that I already wrote about), so it doesn’t matter which registrar you will check with. Let it be REG.RU(the oldest registrar in Runet). By the way, below is a form that allows you to check the domain name for popular zones in Runet:

Verify

Examples: google, google.com

The domain can be entered without a zone (i.e. vasypupkin). As a result, you will be transferred to the Reg.ru website, where the zones where this name is already taken will be highlighted in red, and where it is free (you can buy it right there, because they can get ahead of you). This form supports verification only in Runet zones, that is:

  1. ru - originally assigned to Russia
  2. su - a vestige left over from the Soviet Union and now representing the space of resources in Russian
  3. rf - domains in the national language (in our case, Russian).

Checking a domain for employment in several domain zones

Naturally, you can choose a future name for your site. in any other domain zones, for example, public (.com, .info, .org, .net, etc.). Your right. For this you can go to this page reg.ru and enter the desired name (without the zone) in the search bar:

It will be enough just to check the boxes next to those domain zones where the verification will take place (there are more than seven hundred of them in total). Here, again, a double-edged sword - to take a successful domain in a not very suitable zone or not very successful, but in your native zone. Read about it below.

As a result, the registrar will give you information about which of the zones you have chosen for verification have vacancies according to the parameters you specified:

By default, the system selects (adds to the basket) all free domains, but, of course, this will be superfluous. If you decide to buy, then one thing (although many people buy the same domains in other popular zones, in order to avoid, so to speak). In the screenshot, I chose the RU zone, which is quite logical and affordable. All you have to do is click on the "Register" button below.

I also advise you to use the tips and tools from the page " Help in choosing domains"

Pretty handy tools that allow you to partially replace the rich imagination and creativity.

As I said before, this is not an easy task. I mean, registering a domain name is not difficult (and not expensive), but the problem is that many of your ideas have already been implemented by someone.

Is there some more a number of nuances when choosing a domain, which I would like to voice (in part, but still based on experience):

  1. It is quite logical that a site targeted at the Runet audience would be located in the appropriate domain zone. As I said above - it is RU, or at worst - SU (although this is less desirable, because not everyone is aware that this is also "our" zone). In general, I personally favor the RU zone. Here the prices are lower, and the recognition of the zone is one hundred percent.
  2. I would not pick up a domain in the zone RF. The apparent simplicity of this solution hides many pitfalls. Yes, I registered someone new for myself .. Just for search engines and other services necessary for promotion, this name looks like this - xn--80aedhwdrbcedeb8b2k.xn--p1ai. Nightmare, isn't it? Although, if you don't care, then...
  3. The words from which the selected domain name is formed, as a rule, are written together, or they are separated by a sign "dash". The second option is considered "" and it makes sense to use it only when all the other options are already taken, and you really want to get a domain in the right zone and with the right words.
  4. By the way, for all zones except for national ones (such as the Russian Federation), you can only use combinations of Latin characters and some valid characters (,,, [_], [-]. As I said above, if the “cool” option is already taken, then you can use dashes to separate words.Someone also uses underscore, but this is not ice at all, because it is not really visible in the address bar and misunderstandings may arise.
  5. I also wanted to talk about the words that make up the checked domain name. Once upon a time, search engines better ranked sites where the domain met keywords on which this site was promoted. Now this is not so. At best, there will be no effect from this, and at worst, there will be a filter or pessimization. Therefore, you should not choose a name for a site like “kvartiri-v-moskve-arenda.ru”, but rather use the name of the company or something else creative (the memorability of the domain is the main thing).

Selection of a suitable option among vacant domains

At the beginning of the publication, I already mentioned that if you have unable to find a suitable free domain, then you can look for something in the "secondary market". Yes, yes, domain names are also used. After all, they need to be renewed every year, and if the payment is overdue for at least a month, then the domain name is put up for sale (at auction, as a rule).

Moreover, they can cost significantly more than novoregs. Why?

  1. Well, firstly, for the most part they are already something meaningful and digestible.
  2. And, secondly, they sometimes retain residual weight in search engines (the links placed on them are valid, there is a TIC and PR).

If you create a site of a similar theme on it (or restore a previously existing one using ), then it may have a better chance of success than a newly registered domain. In any case, it will be more expensive to sell links from it if you plan to earn money on it.

You can buy an vacant domain at registrar auctions. One of the most famous is Registration of vacant domains.ru. Below are some offers of such a plan with Reg.Ru (click on the price for a detailed view):

The initial stage of publishing a site is checking the availability of a domain name. A correctly chosen network name largely determines the time of its initial indexing by search engines, the rate of growth of visitors and, in general, the entire future success of an Internet resource.

Things to consider when checking an address:

  1. First of all, the domain name must be free: this can be checked using any WHOIS service. If the domain was previously occupied, it is important to look at the history - how exactly the former owner used the domain, what information was posted.
  2. The address of the site on the network should be short (preferably no longer than 7-10 characters), easy to read and remember by users. In order to check whether the chosen domain will be convenient for visitors, try dictating it to someone over the phone. The interlocutor should be able to write it down without errors.
  3. The domain name should contain an emphasis on the subject of the site or the type of activity of the services offered.
  4. Use only those foreign words that are widely known and will be understood by all visitors (shop, auto, top, etc.). Not everyone perfectly knows a foreign language and the rules for writing certain words.
  5. If the site represents a brand, the domain must necessarily reflect this, be recognizable. At the same time, the usual transliteration for complex multi-part names should not be performed. So, for example, it is better for the organization "Western Heat Generating Company" to choose the abbreviated address z-teplo.ru, rather than the full name in Latin characters.
  6. In the event that all eligible domains are already taken, try checking the domain by including numbers in it. So, the okna24.ru address is in no way inferior to the okna.ru domain.
  7. Experts advise registering domains in several zones at once (RU, SU, COM) and “gluing” them together by setting up redirects to the main site. This raises the position of the resource and protects against the risk of cybersquatting. Therefore, before taking a domain for yourself, do a mass name check in other zones: perhaps a similar brand already exists.

The most recognizable domain zones

  1. RU. Regional zone of the Russian region of the Internet. The most common option for sites targeted at a Russian-speaking audience. Suitable for all areas: commercial resources or personal Internet blogs. Area to check first.
  2. RF. Cyrillic analogue of RU. Less busy, but can make it difficult to navigate to sites in older browsers. The address of a site of the form “namesite.rf” is easy to remember.
  3. com. Initially, only commercial sites of organizations were included in the zone, but now anyone can choose it. Recommended for verification for multilingual sites and resources operating at the international level.

On Majordomo you can check the domain for employment in all zones - RF, RU, COM, ORG, NET, RUS, SU, TECH, ONLINE, STORE, SITE and others.

You went to the site and you wanted to know who owns the domain. Maybe you want to buy this domain, maybe you have a conflict with the owner of the resource, or maybe, on the contrary, you want to chat with him, but there are no contacts on the site. But it's not a problem. You can use our service, which allows you to easily and easily establish the owner of a domain in any domain zone, as well as on which ns servers the domain is located.

In order to find out information about the owner of a domain, you need a Whois service. In order to get the information you need, just enter the domain you are interested in in the search bar and in a few seconds you will know what you need.

Of course, if the Private person option is set, the owner information will not be shown. But by writing a letter to the specified address, you can be sure that the registrar will send it to the domain owner

The WHOIS (Who Is) service is an automated system that provides public access to information about a domain name and its Administrator. This service allows you to find out the date of domain registration and its expiration, the end date of the preferential renewal period, the registrar supporting the domain name, as well as information about the Domain Administrator, if he did not use the personal data hiding service. According to the Rules for registering domain names in the .RU and .РФ domains, information about the Domain Registrant-an individual is presented in an anonymized form. To contact the Domain Administrator in the .RU and .РФ zones, you must use the feedback form provided in WHOIS.

— check the domain for employment, find out information about the domain

A Whois service is a program or script that allows you to check a domain for employment or find out registration information about a domain.
The principle of the whois service is to request a server that stores data for all domain names registered within one zone, obtain this data and display it to the end user.
Use this service to check RF domain or any other IDN domain. Punycode conversion is done automatically.

To find out domain registration information (whois data), including:
Domain DNS records;
domain status;
the name of the domain owner;
contact phone and e-mail of the domain owner;
registrar ID;
domain creation date (delegation start date)
domain registration end date (delegation end date);
enter the domain name and click the check button.

- Domain whois check, whois check by site ip - complete information about the domain

Checking WhoIs allows you to find out the registration information about a particular site. As a rule, it is used to study competitors' sites, but you can use the WhoIs service to obtain information about your own site.

How can such a service be useful?
After conducting a WhoIs check, you will be able to get information about when the domain name lease ends. You may be able to repurchase a domain name in case the owner forgets to pay for it. Of course, such manipulations are quite rare, but if we are talking about competitive and “money” niches, then such a check is one of the main ones, which allows you to fight for each domain as efficiently as possible.

What is domain information used for?
Most often, this service is used to check the domain for employment. For example, you have come up with a beautiful domain name and want to check if such a domain exists, and if so, who owns it. Often there is also a situation when there is no website, and the domain is bought by someone - in this case, checking the domain will allow you to determine its owner and get his contact information if necessary. Checking a domain name for availability takes a few seconds, and after such a short time you will be able to get the coordinates of the person you need.

Information about the owner of the domain is confidential and is provided by the registrar only at the request of the authorities. But there are several possible ways to get her out. We will talk about them in this article.

Why is it needed: find justice for a person who brazenly steals your content, assess the solvency of the site owner before making him an offer to buy, find a specialist in a narrow field who writes sensible articles for his blog, but signs with an anonymous nickname, etc.

1. Look at whois history

You should start by checking the site for who.is. The screenshot shows an example when, with the help of this service, not only the email, but also the mobile phone and the address of the owner became known (this happens if you are very lucky). I'm shocked by my hoster's privacy policy! In most cases, only a link is displayed where you can send a message to the domain owner through the registrar. And with her help, there is a chance to learn a lot of interesting things.

2. We are trying to contact him in an official way

The result depends on luck. It is not known whether a person checks the mail that he indicated during domain registration and how reliable the data provided to him is. Your social engineering skills are also important. You can offer investments, introduce yourself as an assistant to Yuri Milner :-), convince you that you must definitely call by phone or Skype, ask about the possibility of a personal meeting. The main thing is to convince a person that fate has given him a real chance to earn money and beg for the maximum amount of data that can be used in further exploration.

It is advisable to add the phrase: "Please let me know that the offer is not interesting to you." This increases the chance that a person, out of courtesy, will drop a couple of lines, highlighting his mail, name and IP address.

Knowing the e-mail of the former owner (and his nickname), you can find his ad for the sale of the site / domain on a specialized forum and a list of users who responded to it. Of these, you can make a circle of possible current owners of the domain.

3. We are looking for sites registered in the name of the owner

Knowing a person's email address, you can find out which domains are registered to him. You can do this at domainiq.com. It is possible that one of these sites will be a personal blog, which can be used to identify a person.

4. We turn to the host

12. Read comments in source code

We go to the site, click Shift + command + U(or select from the menu item Show page code). First, we look at the HTML code for fawn comments with names and nicknames. For example: "BigFatNagibator, please check this place!". Along the way, we are looking for js scripts that were written by the site owner specifically for this resource. It is possible that they may contain the solemn inscription “Created by Sasha Petrov. Irkutsk" and a link to his Github profile.

In this article, I will describe all currently relevant methods for determining the owner of a domain. I want to warn you right away that there is no one hundred percent chance that we will accurately determine the owner of the domain. This is due to the fact that some webmasters indicate fake (erroneous) data about themselves when registering domains - nothing can be done about this circumstance. I can only say that such people are in the minority, which means that there are more chances to find the owner than not to find.

The owner of a domain can be determined in several ways. Let's consider each of them in detail:

1. Through Whois data

Of course, this is the easiest and most reliable way (see What is Whois). At the same time, probably everyone knows about him or at least heard about him. There are quite a lot of services that provide complete data about the domain, and I won't be surprised if you know an even more convenient service than I will offer below. I would suggest using the following sites for determining Whois:

For example:

After receiving Whois data, you should pay attention to the column "Domain administrator" (sometimes it is called person). It is in it that the full name of the owner of the domain is contained. If this column contains Private Person , then this indicates that the domain owner has decided to remain anonymous. You can do this by enabling the Private Person option in the domain properties, which hides the full name. However, even in this case there is a way to calculate it. I suggest two ways to do this:

a) If you know the e-mail, then there is a chance to find the owner through this data. To do this, enter the http://2ip.ru/domain-list-by-email/ service, enter the mailbox address and it will give you all the domains of this person. It is possible that in some domains the Private Person option will be disabled and the owner can be determined in this indirect way.

b) View domain history. I advise you to use the following free services that allow you to do this:

  • http://who.is/ (does not show the whole story, but only from 2011-2012)
  • http://whoishistory.ru/ (also works with .rf domains, but requires authorization to work)
  • http://whoistory.com/ (works only with .ru domains, excellent service, below is a screenshot from this service)

For example:

Finally, I want to say that if using all of the above methods did not suit you, then, for example, in reg.ru there is an opportunity for a fee to find out the whole history about the owners of the domain (if the domain changed its owner). Honestly, I have never used such a service, so I can not say anything about its effectiveness. By the way, many registrars have paid services for determining the owner.

All the remaining methods will be listed below, or rather the signs by which you can at least learn something about the owner of the domain. However, the chances of success are much less than the considered method of determining through Whois.

2. Via WebArchive

Visit the WebArchive website: http://archive.org/web/web.php . Enter the site you want into the search and see the history. If it is, then try to find some contacts on the site. Perhaps they have a clue or at least something useful in your case.

For example:

3. Try to contact the owner of the domain

I see only two ways to contact the owner:
a) either write a letter to the address indicated in whois (but it may not be indicated);
b) or write to: [email protected] DOMAIN .

By the way, if you do not know where to write, then try to search through some search engine for the following phrase: "@DOMAIN". Perhaps somewhere in the index there is information about the valid mail addresses of this domain.

In extreme cases, you can call by phone if it is on the site (or on other sites of this owner) or in Whois.

Finally, I want to talk about one interesting service that allows you to determine all the sites of one owner (though only in the .ru and .rf domain zones). You can do this on the website: http://2ip.ru/domain-list-by-email/ .
