The firmware for playstation 3 is new. PS3 firmware in detail

The Japanese PS3 console is a truly iconic console of the past generation, on which you can find many truly amazing games not available on other platforms, for example, One of Us, Uncharted, Heavy Rain and many others. Let PS3 not be a priority for a long time product SONY and the prices of its games have fallen asleep, some owners of this console (or potential owners) do not really want to spend money on buying video games, as a result of which they resort to such a procedure as flashing the PS3.

In today's article, we will see with you whether it is worth flashing the PS3, what pros and cons await you after flashing, and much more. Many people think that the flashing process is incredibly difficult, but in reality it is far from the case ...

Pros and cons of a flashed PS3

So, the most obvious plus of PS3 flashing is the ability to install and play absolutely any games you like on the console for free, which will help you save a lot of money. Of course, if you are not against piracy, but if you are interested in this topic, it is obvious that you do not mind.

Among other things, after flashing, you will be able to install third-party software (homebrew) on the system. Also, after flashing, you may be able to run games not only with optical media(discs), but also recorded by you on the HDD console and even on USB storage, which is extremely convenient.

Now about the minus of the flashing. After completing this procedure, there is an extremely high chance of getting banned. account Playstation Network. Simply put, on a flashed PS3, you completely lose access to multiplayer games. Should I flash my PS3? Depends on whether you are interested in multiplayer games or not. If you got yourself a console to play singles, then its flashing is not the same and bad idea... But if you love to play FIFA or Battlefield online, this is not for you.

As we said at the very beginning, many people think that flashing the console requires some incredible knowledge or resources, but this is completely wrong. Perhaps the only thing you need is confidence and attentiveness. Let's see with you how to reflash your PS3 yourself.

So, the first thing you need to do is check the version software which in this moment installed on your PS3. You need to do the following:

  • start PS3;
  • open the "Settings" console;
  • go to the "System Information" section;
  • find the line "System Software".

To install custom firmware, your PS3 must have software version 3.55 ... Not 3.56 or any other version - exactly 3.55. It is very important! If you try to flash your console to a different version, then it will most likely turn into a real brick. Version below - update the console, above - do a downgrade.

New firmware for the console

You may have a question: what firmware should I install at all? Well, frankly, there is no definitive answer to this question. The only advice we can give you for the selection of the firmware is to carefully read the reviews of other users who have already tried to install it on their console. Thanks to them, you will understand whether it is worth spending your time on it or not.

The process of installing firmware on PS3

Let's see how to flash a PS3 from a USB stick. That's right, you need a computer and USB storage to flash the console small size... First, you need to download the firmware file in the PUP extension to your PC. Once you download it, plug the USB stick into your computer and open it.

Create a folder called "UPDATE" on the USB flash drive, then copy the firmware file to this folder. Now rename the copied file to "PS3UPDAT.PUP". And ... that's really all you had to do with the flash drive. Now - insert it into your Playstation 3 and start the console. Then go to "Settings" → "System update" → "Update from storage media".

The inserted USB flash drive will be scanned and information about the update file that you previously recorded on it will appear on the screen. Make sure this is exactly what you want and select "OK" by pressing "X" (enter). Next, accept license agreement and select "Start". And now you just have to wait until the installation of the new firmware is complete.

Alternative way of flashing

Unfortunately, the above method does not always end with a successful PS3 flashing and you may even encounter various errors and others unpleasant problems... If this happened to you, then you will need to resort to a slightly different method: through the recovery mode of the console (Recovery Mode).

So, first, insert the flash drive with the firmware into the USB port of the console. Also, don't forget to connect your controller to it via USB so you can navigate the recovery mode menu. Once you are sure everything is ready, follow these steps:

  • hold the power button and release it as soon as the console restarts;
  • immediately after restarting, hold down the power button again;
  • hold the power button until you hear one single beep and one double beep;
  • then click on the button with the Playstation icon in the center of the USB-connected controller.

Believe me, it sounds more complicated than it really is. As soon as you complete the above steps, the same recovery mode will appear on the screen in front of you. Using the controller, go down to the recovery menu to “System Update” and select it. The PS3 flashing process will be automatic.

How do I install games on a flashed PS3?

Many players who have successfully flashed their PS3 have a very logical question: how to install games on internal storage(HDD) of the console itself? Well, let's take a look at one of the options for recording games to HDD.

So, first you need to install software such as MultiMAN for yourself. In fact, MultiMAN is a file manager that will just help you transfer the toy you need to HDD PS3. You also need a computer, but considering that you have flashed your console yourself, this should not be a problem. As soon as you have on your console this program, do this:

  • download the toy you need to your PC, preferably in ISO format;
  • format the USB storage to NTFS format;
  • transfer the toy to this USB storage;
  • insert USB storage into USB port on PS3;
  • open the MultiMAN program;
  • switch it to the "MULTIMAN" mode (initially, the program will stand in the "mmCm" mode (the mode for starting games)):
    • click on L1 or R1 to switch the program view;
    • select the very first item in the menu and find the "Switch to multiMAN mode" function;
    • select this function for the program to reboot and enter the “multiMAN” mode;
  • translating the program into desired mode, go to its first section and find the item "PFS Driver", after which the scan of the connected USB-drive with the game will start;
  • then open the "File Manager" item and go to "PS3 Root".

So, this is where you have to copy the game to your hard drive. Opening the file manager, you will see a small window with many folders. You need to find the "pvd_usb000" or "pvd_usb001" folder, which is responsible for the USB port on the console to which the USB storage with the game is connected.

Suppose you want the folder "pvd_usb000"; open this folder and find the folder or file with the desired toy in it. Use the X button on your controller to select a game and press the O button. Then select the "Copy" item in the menu that appears and exit the folder. Find the "dev_hdd0" folder (the internal hard drive of the PS3 console) and open it.

If your game is in ISO image, then go to the "PS3ISO" folder, and if just in the "GAMES" folder. Now press the "O" button on the controller again and select "Paste". Agree to copy the selected file. After 10-15 minutes the game will be on your console and you can easily launch it.

All about the PlayStation 3 firmware

Instructions on how to update the game console software to version 3.55: It should be noted that there is only one version, but there are several fundamentally different types, each of which has its own pros, cons and ways of implementation.
The interface language of the programs for the PlayStation 3 firmware: Russian, English is quite convenient, given that until recently there was no Russian language.
Pay attention to the fact that even after the PlayStation 3 has been flashed, some games will require a disc in the drive, and without the presence of a disc, nothing will work, the new software will not do a miracle, it will just add comfort to you when using the console.

The process is quite simple, but you need to be extremely careful, since the slightest mistake can lead to irreversible consequences.
To flash the console, you only need a PlayStation 3 console, a computer with an Internet connection and the ability to use it, a flash drive or external hard drive, the presence of a brain and straight hands. *
* In the absence of the latter, immediately throw your console out of the window, and then kill yourself against the wall. (It was a joke, but there is truth in it too. So be careful. Good luck!)

Where to start the firmware process?
1. Turn on the PlayStation 3 and see what firmware is in the console at the moment.
To do this, go to Settings / System Settings / System Information.
There you will see all the information on the console, including the firmware version. If version installed firmware no higher than 3.55 - very good - PlayStation 3 will be flashed without problems.
2. Download the firmware and read the instructions for the firmware.
3. Copy the firmware files to a USB flash drive or external hard drive, according to the instructions, put into folders.
4. Connect a USB flash drive or hard drive to the console and install the required firmware, then run required programs described in the instructions for the firmware.
5. Save the game to the USB flash drive, Backup Manager sees games along the path "external storage / GAMES / game folder."
6. Launch Backup Manager which is located in the "game" menu, then select the game, wait a little and start.
7. Play and rejoice.

File - "UP0001-OMAN46756_00-0000111122223333.pkg" - Open program Backup Manager
The file "OpenBM_1.17.2_SRC" contains the sources on the basis of which the Open Backup Manager itself was compiled using the compiler "PS3 SDK v1.92-FuxSony"

Key features of Open Manager
Open Manager supports up to 512 different objects from bluray drive internal hdd hard drive and two USB devices.

Allows to copy information from bdvd discs to hard disk hdd0 or external USB device, from USB media to hdd0 and vice versa, from hdd0 to USB device. In the process, Open Manager asks you where to write data. It uses asynchronous read and write mode for faster copying.

Support for large FAT files has been implemented. When the size of one file exceeds 4GB, it is split into several parts, the size of which is less than 4gb, and each part is assigned its own serial number which is written in its own extension. Expansion looks like * .666xx (for example, if the file name is larger than 4gb - file.ext, then the file is split into parts file.ext.66600, file.ext.66601, and so on). Such files are not bootable, they are placed in a folder marked with the "_" prefix in its name. The split files are subsequently glued together into one file, then when you copy it to hdd0.

Open Manager independently searches for the path to the directory with games, then notifies about where the game is located, and suggests leaving the old directory dev_hdd0 \ game \ LAUN12345 \ GAMEZ \ or creating a new one.
It is possible to easily change folders by pressing the L2 + START key combination.
The new directory with games is located at: dev_hdd0 \ game \ OMAN46756 \ GAMEZ \

Implemented options for checking games (enabled by pressing the L1 button). The menu displays information about files, their sizes, large files and broken parts.

Homebrew support implemented: you can create a folder called "homebrew" in the root folder USB devices and write there folders with programs that contain the file EBOOT.BIN and ICON0.PNG. In addition, it is possible to use the internal hdd0 disk. Homebrew starts automatically and gets the path to argv (note to developers).

Implemented FTP server support for homebrew download. If necessary, you can enable FTP mode and transfer files from your computer. To do this, set the following username in the FTP client: "OMAN46756".
In combination with Open Manager, I recommend using the "FlashFXP" FTP client. You can download FlashFXP here
FlashFXP instructions can be downloaded here.

Not every Sony PlayStation 3 owner has the means to make stable purchases of games, or pay big bucks for a "specialist" to install the firmware for you. The firmware is designed to run games or programs downloaded from the Internet and use them painlessly.

Custom firmware attracts with its ease of installation and use. You update the console software to a custom one, and then you can turn it on / off at will.

Described below detailed instructions on how to flash PS3 yourself to run downloaded games. For example, we will install a stability-tested firmware from Rogero or kmeaw.
We will flash the PS3 using:
Flash drive;
And the console itself Sony playstation 3. However, the software (software) must be no higher than version 3.55;

How do I check my software version?
Go to "Settings" ==> "System Settings"

1) rushed. Installing the official software update version 3.55

If the set-top box already has firmware 3.55 - skip this item. If you have software higher than version 3.55, then at the moment your PS3 cannot be flashed.

You need to create a PS3 folder, and another folder in it, with capital letters UPDATE. Download the archive c / in order to update the Playstation3 software to 3.55. After unzipping, we transfer the PS3UPDAT.PUP file to the folder on the UPDATE flash drive.

We plug the USB flash drive into the PS3, go to the menu and look for "System update" ==> "Update from storage media".
After the update, restart your PS3, and voila, the software is now version 3.55.

2) Install the firmware itself
Create a PS3 folder on the flash drive, and in it another UPDATE folder (only in big letters).

Now we have a choice: install (change the file name to PS3UPDAT.PUP) or the time-tested standard 3.55 kmeaw c /. We recommend installing Rogero 4.55, but the choice is yours.

Downloaded, unzipped, and put the PS3UPDAT.PUP file into the UPDATE folder on the USB flash drive. We inserted the USB flash drive into the console, and turned off the power (with a toggle switch on the back on thick models, for slim, pull out the power cord). We connect the power back.

Press and hold the power button until the set-top box turns on and off on its own (takes 30 seconds). Again, press and hold the button until the prefix beeps twice. After that, release the button and Playstation3 will boot into recovery mode.

Take the joystick, press the PS button, select the "System Update" item. After that it will start installing custom firmware for Playstation 3... After installation and reboot, “Install package files” and “/ app_home / PS3_GAME” will appear in the “Game” menu.

MultiMAN manager for running games on custom firmware

multiMAN most convenient program to run games on a flashed PS3. Download from /, drop it onto the USB stick, insert the USB stick into the console. In the "games" menu, select "Install Package Files" and press the cross, for multiMAN installations.

In case of using an old jailbreak keychain, the firmware will cause a black screen when starting games. To avoid this, install the same as the multiMAN manager.

On this Sony firmware Playstation 3 is over and you can enjoy new games.

Already now, the owners of Sony PS3 rejoice with delight, because now, you can quite simply and quickly flash your game console and freely download and install games. Today, we will introduce you to phased actions PS3 firmware.

First, a little theory.

After the firmware, your game console will be able to run games downloaded from the Internet without having license disk, as well as install various applications, written by craftsmen for the convenience of using the prefix.

The history of the appearance of firmware:

A security hole was found on the PS3 on December 29, 2010
January 9, 2011 George Hotz (Geohot) released the first of its kind custom firmware for PS3, which allowed running any software on a curling iron.
January 17 created and posted on the network 3.55 Waninkoko CFW
On January 18, 3.55 Wutangrza CFW was created and uploaded to the network
January 19 3.55 Kmeaw CFW was created and uploaded to the network
The official 3.56 firmware was released on January 27
January 29 created and posted on the network 3.55 Waninkoko CFW version 2

What is required to flash the console:

1. A set-top box with firmware no higher than 3.55 (see below how you can check the firmware version of your console)

2. USB flash drive formatted in the FAT32 file system

4. A little patience and care 🙂

How do I check your firmware version?

Everything is very simple. To do this, follow these steps. Turn on the console and go to the menu " Settings""System""System Information"- here the version of your firmware will be visible (example: 3.41, 3.55, etc.).

ATTENTION! To flash the set-top box, you need to have installed official firmware 3.55

Firmware update methods.

There are 3 ways to update the firmware, let's look at each of them.

a) From a flash drive. Downloading the firmware. Next, create the "PS3" folder on the flash drive and the "UPDATE" folder in it. (the names of both folders must be written in capital letters) and throw the downloaded firmware there.

ATTENTION! The firmware should be located approximately along the following path: H: /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

b) From a USB flash drive, through the Recovery menu. To begin with, we prepare flash drives with firmware according to the instructions above (see paragraph " a)", Update from a flash drive). Turn off the console. We bring our finger to the console power button and hold it until the console turns on and off. We remove the finger and bring it up again by pressing the power button of the console and wait until we hear a double “peep-peep” (in the process, the set-top box will beep but with a large interval, you need to hold it until the double peak), after that we remove the finger. The console will ask you to connect the game controller using a wire, which we must do.

We select the item - "Firmware update" (it is the last one on the list) and wait for the end.

Video of the whole process:

c) Via internet from XMB. ATTENTION!With this method, the update will occur immediately on latest firmware and if you need 3.55, then don't use this method!

Choosing custom firmware

At this stage, you will need to decide which custom firmware you will install for yourself. At the moment there are 4 versions of different firmware.

I want to note that the quality of each of the firmware, sometimes very different for each user, is precisely why, your task is to choose the best option for your console!

ATTENTION! It is safer to flash the console in the revovery menu (see above for the way to get into the menu recovery). Although many people manage to carry out the necessary operations through the XMB without any problems.

80010009 — Restore original EBOOT and SFO by hand.

80029567 — This error occurs when PKG is signed for a specific firmware, not the one you are betting on. Look for signed PKG or install another firmware.

8002F997 - It is desirable to take another USB flash drive and format it to the FAT32 file system. Then repeat the operation being carried out.

8002B603 - It is treated through the mod 4 recovery point "Reconstruct the database"

That's probably all. In the next article we will look at popular managers and how to work with them, a way to record games from FTP to the hard drive of the console, as well as detailed FAQ on all sorts of small issues. Good luck!

  • Prefix Sony Playstation 3 with official software 3.55 or the version below. Firmware 3.56 and higher are not yet supported.
  • Flash drive or USB hard a disk formatted with the FAT32 file system.

Preparing for PS3 firmware

Check the software version of the set-top box at the moment. You can do this as follows: go to the PS3 menu in the section "Settings" - "System settings" - "System information"... The screen will indicate Current version The software of your set-top box.

1. Installing the official software update version 3.55.

If you already have firmware 3.55 installed, then proceed to installation (as I wrote above, set-top boxes with software version 3.56 or higher are not yet flashed).
Make sure that file system used media (USB HDD or flash drive) - FAT32, if your console "sees" its contents, then the flash drive is already formatted in FAT32. Create a folder in the root of your USB drive with the name "PS3" and a subfolder "UPDATE" (observing the specified case). Download archive from official update Software up to 3.55, unzip it and copy the official firmware file "PS3UPDAT.PUP" to the previously created PS3 / UPDATE directory. Connect the USB stick to Playstation consoles 3 and select from the menu System update - Update from storage media... The STB will update. After the installation is complete the PS3 will turn off, now turn it on and check the software version is 3.55.

2. Installing custom firmware 3.55 kmeaw.

Download custom firmware 3.55 kmeaw and run it. Specify the path to the USB flash drive, the installation will be performed on it. Connect the USB flash drive to the set-top box. Now you need to completely de-energize the Playstation 3 (switch the toggle switch on the back - FAT models, to pull out the power cord - Slim models). Turn on the power to the set-top box again. Press and hold the power button of the set-top box until it turns on and turns off by itself (about 30 seconds). Press the button again and hold it until the attachment emits short beep twice. After the beep, release the button. The Playstation will boot into recovery mode.
Connect the joystick with a wire, press the "PS" button and select "System Update". The Playstation 3 will begin installing the kmeaw custom firmware.
After the console completes the update and reboots, two new items should appear in the "Game" menu: "Install package files" and "/ App_home / PS3_GAME".

Installing multiMAN manager to run games on custom firmware.

multiMAN is considered the best manager to run games on custom firmware.
Download multiMAN 2.03.00 and Blu-ray drive emulator BDEMU, copy the files to the root of your flash drive and connect it to your Playstation 3. Via the menu "Games" - "Install Package Files" on the set-top box, set the joystick button "X" first multiMAN, then BDEMU. A drive emulator is required, because in latest version the developer has removed the ability to run backups.

Burn games that you will download from torrents to an external drive or USB flash drive. On the external drive at the root, create a folder "GAMEZ", and inside it folders with the game code.

Attention! To avoid errors at startup, check the correct sequence of folders, as adding sub-directories to the game path will not start the game.

How to run a game on custom firmware

Go to the multiMAN manager and press the "X" button on the game - the image of the game will be mounted and in the "Game" menu will appear new icon: if any Blu-Ray disc is inserted into the console drive - the game will appear in the disc section, if there is no disc in the drive - in / app_home / ps3_game).

Attention! Not all games come without a disc, some require any Blu-ray disc in the attachment drive.

Downgrade on PS3 consoles with firmware 3.56 - 4.46 (firmware rollback)

Downgrade (from English - downgrade) is the use of old device software. Downgrade, as an operation with a device, is used to rollback the firmware due to the greater stability of the early firmware or to obtain the possibility of any manipulations with the device. Owners of a PS3 console with firmware 3.56-4.46 can use a special device - E3 Flasher, which can downgrade the console firmware, that is, downgrade. E3 Flasher is a special chip that is installed inside the set-top box to enable rollback for more early version firmware, respectively, to install custom.

Downgrade, as a rule, is done to custom firmware 3.55, since this particular firmware is completely hacked. After downgrading to an earlier firmware version, you can install custom Rogero 3.55 v.3.7 or (or Kmeaw 3.55 - instructions in this article).

Conditions under which PS3 downgrade is possible:

  • The Date Code of the prefix must be no higher than 1B (this means that the prefix must be produced no later than Q2 2011). You can view the Date Code on the back of the console. Let's say 9D and 0C are suitable, since the set-top boxes were released in Q4 2009 and Q3 2010, respectively. 1C, 1D - no longer fit (3, 4 quarters of 2011). Also, your PS3 memory must be of the NOR type, as indicated by the following model numbers: CECHH, CECHJ, CECHK, CECHL, CECHM, CECHP, CECHQ
  • Your console's factory firmware must be lower than 3.60.
  • Slim models with model number 3000 cannot be downgraded.
