Acronis program. Step-by-step instructions for backing up the system using Acronis True Image Home

Acronis how to use right ? The program has a lot of functions and tools, and an inexperienced person can get confused. The fact is that I could not use Startup Recovery with the F-11 key. I had to recover from a previously created Bootable media, but it turns out Acronis sometimes confuses the drive letters, besides, I probably changed the default settings in vain, in short, I mistakenly deployed the backup to the wrong partition and, of course, erased all the files I needed, in the end I let it down people and this is if you have Acronis True Image on your computer, which is twice as offensive, because the program is expensive. I read a lot of articles on the net, but apparently the versions of the program do not match. Can you give any guidance for this Acronis of yours to work exactly 100%? Michael.

Acronis how to use

Friends, this article covers in detail the work of the outdated version of Acronis True Image Home 2011, if you have a newer version of the program, then go to our special section with articles about work , all new articles are there.

  • Note: I also offer you an overview of the program, which is a direct and free competitor to Acronis True Image Home

What if all possible methods of restoring the operating system have failed? Naturally, you have a lot of necessary programs that you installed in more than one day, reinstalling and configuring which will take a lot of time and effort. The entire arsenal of Windows XP recovery tools can be used mainly in a working operating system, and if it does not start, you resort to help, a rather limited and inconvenient tool, at the sight of which an inexperienced user will have big doubts, and it will not always help. That's when many people think about backup programs like Acronis True Image Home, the program is undoubtedly good, but it also has its own peculiarities, let's try to understand them.

But this is what concerns Windows XP, but what about Windows 7, is Acronis needed here? We have an article->, you can read it, there are undoubtedly more opportunities for self-healing, but as they say, everything is decided in comparison and you need to choose a saving tool for a rainy day by yourself, having tried everything. How do I use Acronis? Very simple, friendly and intuitive interface, but you need to learn how to work both in a working operating system and from bootable media that you create yourself. Let's take a look at the main functions of the program first.

  • Note: An older version of Acronis will not see a backup created by a newer version of the program, you will not be able to restore your data. Also, not always the Russian-language version of Acronis True Image accepts a backup created in the English-language version of the program.
  • After installing Acronis, you need to immediately create a backup of your operating system and bootable media with the program, you can on a USB flash drive or CD (personally I have both just in case) and you can take advantage of the main advantages of this program - restore your operating the system even if it does not boot.
  • It is also important to know that when restoring the operating system from the backup you created, all files on the restored disk will be replaced by the contents of the backup, that is, deleted, so before the restore operation, you should copy your important data to a safe place. In case of serious violations of Windows, that is, if it is impossible to boot the system in a normal way, you should use any Live CD, boot from it and copy your files in the same way.

So, how do you use Acronis on a running operating system and bootable media?

If you have not yet installed the program, you can use our instructions.
Note: our article covers working with the latest version of Acronis True Image Home 2011, if you have an older version of Acronis, then its principle of operation does not differ at all from ours, they are all very similar.
Launch Acronis. Go to main window

Please note that you almost do not need to configure anything, Acronis is completely ready to create an archive copy of your operating system and even knows where to place it. If we click Archive, then an archive copy of our entire C: \ drive with the operating system and programs will be automatically created on the local D: \ drive in the My backups folder.

The location where your archives will be stored can be changed by clicking on the Operations button.

You can also manually select the Backup of the disks and partitions we need

In the drop-down menu, you can change the archive storage parameters by selecting the drive and folder, or you can create it yourself.

In general, it can be noted that everything is very convenient, at least for now.
Suppose I am satisfied with the Acronis proposal to place the backup copy of the archive with my operating system on the D: \ drive in the My backups folder. I choose Archive. Data backup in progress

And here he is my backup, at the ordered address.

If you have already created a backup, then you can easily find it by clicking the Search backup button.

Let's say your Windows is unstable and you want to restore its state at the time of the archive creation.
In order to restore the operating system from a backup, you need to select our archive and click restore.

The recovery process will begin and the obligatory reboot will begin, after which your operating system will return to the stable state of the moment the archive was created.
You can also configure continuous protection of your files on a schedule.
Use Online Storage for storing archives.
Consider Tools and utilities

Very interesting function Startup Recovery. Let's say you have problems starting Windows, this function will allow you to load Acronis True Image before starting the operating system by pressing the button F-11... Then you can go into the program and deploy a working and previously created image of the operating system in place of the damaged one, for example, from the effects of a virus. Unfortunately, this function let me down several times, so let's play it safe and create Acronis Bootable Media.

  • Note: When the archive is created, we will be able to restore our Windows from a working operating system at any time, but if, due to some circumstances, we cannot boot it, we will use the Bootable Media we previously created with Acronis True Image.

Bootable Media Builder, you can create it in this Tools & Utilities window.
Or in main-> Create bootable media, so create.

Further

We put a checkmark everywhere, but first of all we are interested in the full version, it was in working with it that I personally noticed the least unpleasant surprises.

We can place Acronis True Image Bootable Media on a CORSAIR (H) flash drive or on a CD, again, it's better to have two options and make them one by one

Proceed
Copying files
Bootable media created successfully

Now we will be able to set the boot of our computer from the floppy drive and successfully boot from this media.
Let's take a look at using Acronis True Image in a combat environment. For example, your operating system is blocked by an advertising banner that asks you to put money on such and such a phone and you are supposedly unblocked, which is of course a hoax.

Therefore, you cannot get into Windows and use Acronis True Image either. So we will use Bootable Media with Acronis. I perform all actions on my computer live, so that everything is clear, no virtual machines, so the quality of the screenshots will be a little worse. I reboot the computer and go into the BIOS, change the boot priority to my USB flash drive. I use the bootable media created on a USB flash drive. But if in doubt, press the button New storage and select it manually. For example, I have the same confusion with letters: there are three hard disks in the system unit, you can see this by the screenshot and three operating systems, but I know for sure that my C: \ drive with Windows, which I want to restore, takes 132 GB and I will select it , although on the screenshot, you can see that Acronis assigned it a different letter F: \.

Note: sometimes if you have several hard drives, as well as several operating systems, the Next button in this window is also unavailable, then you also have to specify the partition manually.
To accept
Proceed.

Despite the fact that the Windows operating system itself is a fairly reliable and fault-tolerant tool, damage to just one critical file can lead to its complete failure.

Damage or deletion of secondary system files in the worst case can cause failure of certain subsystems, or may not be noticed at all by the user.

The most unpleasant thing in this story is that it is impossible to predict exactly when the trouble will happen and the system will crash, as a result of which the user risks losing all the accumulated data. The reason for this may be a virus attack, hardware failure, and in some cases, erroneous actions of the user himself.

A reliable way to protect valuable information

However, there is one sure-fire way to avoid such problems, and that is.

As a rule, backing up ordinary user data does not raise any questions, because for this it is enough just to copy the necessary files to removable media or save in the now popular cloud storage. But what if you need to reserve itself with all its settings, passwords and installed programs? Just copying the contents of the system drive is not enough. And yet it is quite possible to create such a copy. To do this, you need a special program called Acronis True Image Home 2013.

A brief overview of the capabilities of Acronis True Image Home 2013

This software solution is designed to back up and restore almost any data. Thanks to Acronis True Image Home 2013, you can create exact copies of individual folders, files, as well as hard drives or their partitions while preserving the original file structure.

The created image of a disk or its system partition includes absolutely all the data necessary for deploying a reserved OS on workstations.

In addition to user files (audio, video, images, etc.), such an image contains the operating system itself, boot records, settings, passwords, email data, and all installed programs. Having such a copy on hand, in the event of partial or fatal damage to the operating system, you can restore it to the same state in which it was at the time of backup to the same computer or transfer it to another machine.

In addition to backup options, Acronis True Image Home has many other useful features that can make working with data more secure and efficient. The program supports synchronization, duplicating backups, creating special security zones, “freezing” the operating system, converting backups, cloning disks to transfer the OS to new hardware, creating new partitions on a hard disk, working with images as with a regular disk, creating bootable media , deleting temporary or unnecessary files without the possibility of recovery, as well as many other useful functions.

What's new in version 2013

The new version of Acronis True Image Home 2013 adds compatibility with, synchronization with mobile devices - smartphones, communicators and tablets has become possible.

To synchronize, you just need to go to the App Store or Google Play and install a special free application to provide access to data in the Acronis Cloud. The rules for generating backup names have been improved.

Now, for each backup job, the program will create separate folders and assign them a job name. A quick file sharing function has been implemented, so that each user subscribed to the Acronis Cloud service can generate a public link to any file or folder stored in the cloud with just one click. Also in the new version, many other minor improvements and improvements have been made.

Installation and configuration features

You can download a 30-day trial version of the program on the developer's website. In this case, you will need to indicate the real address of the mailbox to which the activation code will be sent. Installing Acronis True Image is straightforward. Since the program itself is simple and clear, the installation type can be selected "Full". Acronis True Image 2013 has a very user-friendly and easy-to-use interface, and all actions are accompanied by detailed comments and step-by-step wizard tips.

Plus, the program has a very detailed, built-in Russian-language manual, after studying which you can learn about all the intricacies of working with this wonderful tool.

An example of creating a backup of the system partition

In order not to be unfounded, we decided to demonstrate the capabilities of Acronis True Image 2013 using a specific example of creating a full backup of the system partition and restoring from it. At the same time, we will explore the interface, as well as briefly familiarize ourselves with some of the additional tools of the application.

So, open the "Backup and Restore" tab and select "Back up disks and partitions". Select the desired partition, specify the location for saving the backup and click the "Archive" button. Upon completion of the backup process, a special .tib format archive will be created, which you can view in regular Windows Explorer. You can start the process either from the "Backup and Restore" section, or by opening the "Restore" item.

You should not save a copy of a section to the same section. The storage location of the backup can also be a removable medium - a DVD disc or a USB flash drive. In this case, you can make them bootable by checking the corresponding box. In this case, in addition to the partition files, the data necessary to run the bootable version of Acronis True Image Home will be written to the medium and a bootable recovery environment will be created.

In the backup settings, you can select additional parameters, for example, specify the type of backup (incremental or decremental), activate sector-by-sector mode, protect the copy with a password, set the compression level, exclude certain types of files that should not be included in the backup, as well as make other necessary settings. Novice users can leave it as it is, by default.

What else to keep in mind

However, creating a backup does not provide complete system protection by itself. If the operating system is unstable, starting Acronis True Image may be impossible, just as it may be impossible to boot the operating system itself. There are two ways to eliminate these gaps: by activating the special "Startup Repair" option, and also by creating a bootable media from which you can access backup files even when your OS is not able to boot itself. First of all, open the “Tools and Utilities” tab and activate the “Startup Repair” option.

Now you can start the recovery process directly when you boot the OS by pressing the F11 key. In this case, you will be taken to a special boot menu, in which you can select the desired copy and start the recovery process. Recovery from bootable media is performed in the same way. By the way, this method is considered more reliable. To create bootable media, you can use the above method, or use the dedicated Bootable Media Builder from the Tools & Utilities section.

Additional features of Acronis True Image Home 2013

The rest of the Acronis True Image Home 2013 functions, although they are additional, can nevertheless be very useful in solving various tasks related to secure data storage. So, special attention should be paid to the Try & Decide function - a special virtualization tool that allows you to install potentially unsafe software on your computer, visit sites that are questionable from a security point of view, or make risky settings.

Another useful tool (for Windows 7 users) is the function to convert Acronis backups to Windows backups and vice versa. Thanks to this tool, you can convert tib images of system partitions to VHD format or use the converted VHD file to boot the OS. With the help of optimization tools, you can clean up the hard disk from temporary and obsolete data, format partitions or disks, delete files and folders beyond recovery.

Outcome

Despite its obvious simplicity and convenience, Acronis True Image Home 2013 should not be classified as a so-called “starter software”. Therefore, before using the program, we advise you to carefully study the attached manual - this will help you better understand the functionality and avoid possible errors. As for the program itself, there are no special complaints about the interface and functionality, as you can see for yourself by downloading and testing the trial version.

The capabilities of Acronis True Image Home are really impressive and against their background the amount of 1,700 rubles, which the developers estimated their work, does not seem so “unfair” or unreasonably high.

Ensuring the protection of the safety and confidentiality of information stored on a computer, as well as the operability of the entire system as a whole, are very important tasks. The complex set of utilities Acronis True Image helps to cope with them perfectly. With this program, you can save your data from both accidental system failures and targeted malicious actions. Let's take a look at how to work with Acronis True Image.

One of the main guarantors of maintaining data integrity is the creation of a backup copy. Acronis True Image offers advanced capabilities when performing this procedure, as this is one of the main tasks of the application.

Immediately after starting the Akronis True Image program, a start window opens, which offers the possibility of backing up. A copy can be made entirely from the entire computer, individual disks and their partitions, as well as from marked folders and files. In order to select the source of copying, click on the left side of the window, where there should be an inscription: "Change source".

We find ourselves in the source selection section. As mentioned above, we are given three copy options to choose from:

  1. The whole computer;
  2. Separate disks and partitions;
  3. Separate files and folders.

We select one of these parameters, for example, "Files and folders".

A window opens in front of us in the form of an explorer, where we mark those folders and files that we want to back up. We mark the necessary elements, and click on the "OK" button.

There are also three options here:

  1. Cloud storage Acronis Cloud with unlimited storage space;
  2. Removable media;
  3. Computer hard disk space.

Let's choose, for example, cloud storage Acronis Cloud, in which you must first create an account.

So, almost everything is ready to create a backup. But, we can still decide whether to encrypt the data, or leave it unprotected. If we decide to encrypt, then click on the corresponding inscription on the window.

In the window that opens, enter an arbitrary password twice, which should be remembered in order to be able to access the encrypted backup in the future. Click on the "Save" button.

Now, in order to create a backup, it remains to click on the green button that says "Create a copy".

After that, the backup process starts, which can be continued in the background while you are doing other things.

After the backup procedure is completed, a characteristic green icon with a check mark inside appears in the program window between the two connection points.

Synchronization

In order to synchronize your computer with Acronis Cloud and have access to data from any device, from the main window of Acronis True Image, go to the "Synchronization" tab.

In the window that opens, which describes in general terms the possibilities of synchronization, click on the "OK" button.

After that, a synchronization is created between the folder on the computer and the cloud service. The process may take some time, but now any changes in the specified folder will be automatically transferred to Acronis Cloud.

Backup management

After the data backup has been uploaded to the Acronis Cloud server, you can manage it using the Dashboard. There is also an opportunity to manage and sync.

From the Acronis True Image start page, go to the section called Dashboard.

In the window that opens, click on the green button "Open online dashboard".

After that, the browser is launched, which is installed on your computer by default. The browser redirects the user to the Devices page in their Acronis Cloud account, where all backups are visible. To restore a backup, just click on the "Restore" button.

In order to view your syncs in the browser, you need to click on the tab of the same name.

Create bootable media

A boot disk, or flash drive, is needed after a crash in the system to restore it. To create bootable media, go to the "Tools" section.

Then, a window opens in which you are asked to choose a way to create bootable media: using the proprietary Acronis technology, or using the WinPE technology. The first method is simpler, but does not work with some hardware configurations. The second method is more complicated, but at the same time it is suitable for any hardware. However, it should be noted that the percentage of incompatibility of a bootable USB flash drive created using the Acronis technology is quite small, so, first of all, you need to use this particular USB drive, and only in case of failure proceed to creating a USB flash drive using WinPE technology.

After the method for creating a flash drive has been selected, a window opens in which you should specify a specific USB drive or disk.

On the next page, we check all the selected parameters, and click on the "Proceed" button.

After that, the actual process of creating bootable media takes place.

Permanently erase data from disks

Acronis True Image has a Drive Cleanser tool that helps you completely erase data from disks, and their individual partitions, without the possibility of subsequent recovery.

In order to use this function, from the "Tools" section, go to the "More tools" item.

After that, Windows Explorer opens, which presents an additional list of Acronis True Image utilities that are not included in the main program interface. Launch the Drive Cleanser utility.

A utility window opens in front of us. Here you need to select the disk, disk partition or USB drive that you want to clean up. To do this, it is enough to make one click with the left mouse button on the corresponding element. After selection, click on the "Next" button.

Then, select the method of cleaning the disk, and again click on the "Next" button.

After that, a window opens, in which it is warned that the data on the selected partition will be deleted, and it itself is formatted. We put a tick next to the inscription "Delete selected partitions without the possibility of recovery", and click on the "Proceed" button.

Then, the procedure for permanently deleting data from the selected partition begins.

System cleaning

Using the System Clean-up utility, you can clean your hard drive of temporary files and other information that can help attackers track user actions on the computer. This utility is also located in the list of additional tools in Acronis True Image. We launch it.

In the utility window that opens, select those system elements that we want to delete, and click on the "Clear" button.

After that, the computer is cleared of unnecessary system data.

Work in trial mode

The Try & Decide tool, which is also among the additional utilities of Acronis True Image, provides an opportunity to run a trial mode. In this mode, the user can run potentially dangerous programs, go to questionable sites, and perform other actions without the risk of harming the system.

We open the utility.

In order to turn on the trial mode, click on the topmost inscription in the window that opens.

After that, an operation mode is launched in which there is no risk of the risk of damage to the system by malicious programs, but at the same time, this mode imposes some restrictions on the user's capabilities.

As you can see, Acronis True Image is a very powerful set of utilities designed to provide the maximum level of data protection against loss or theft by hackers. At the same time, the functionality of the application is so rich that it will take a lot of time to understand all the features of Acronis True Image, but it's worth it.
