If you compare the sites developed 10 years ago and modern Internet resources, then you will find very few similarities. And the point here is not only in the active development of technology, but also in the changing requirements of users.
Consider the most relevant areas of web design, confidently holding positions over the past year.
- "Hooray!" responsive web design. If your site is designed to be viewed only on computers, then prepare yourself to lose a significant portion of your audience. Tablets, smartphones and other devices are increasingly used to access the Internet and obtain the necessary information. Users should be able to perform the targeted action from a mobile device. Ease of viewing, responsive design - all this characterizes a modern web resource.
- Lightweight and productive. Users don't like to wait. Instant receipt of information, instant execution of an action is what attracts people in the Internet space so much. To satisfy this desire, it is required to reduce the weight of the pages of the site, making it load faster. Increasing attention is being paid to the performance factor, making it even more comfortable for visitors to perform actions.
- GUI design to be! Structured website layouts, thanks to responsive design, are becoming more and more popular. According to experts, the presence of many frameworks eliminates the need to develop a "bicycle". Modular design blocks used in site construction make the creation process less costly and more efficient. Acceleration at this stage of development makes it possible to focus on the detailed elaboration of the components of web design.
- Web site design with new tools. The design methods will definitely be improved. An obvious trend is the ability to design in the browser. Optimization of CMS interfaces will open up more opportunities for content managers who can edit the content of the site from any device.
- Experiments are fun. Support for CSS grids, the use of new technologies, responsive site design - all this leads to the fact that the process of creating a site will become more creative, original and creative. The practice of launching an unfinished resource will be used everywhere. Redesign of the site, bringing to mind will occur gradually, in the course of how users begin to come to the site.
Considering that search engine algorithms are changing towards greater "humanity", i.e. in search engine optimization and site optimization and ranking, priority is given to convenient sites with an intuitive interface, it is logical to assume that the development will focus on ease of use. An excessive abundance of all kinds of distracting objects will remain in the past. The era of minimalism is coming: subtle, comfortable and tasteful. However, there will be new chips, because the monotony gets bored quickly enough.
Such a company, about which it is not a pity to write a good review! I represent a Moscow accommodation operator in hostels, hotels and hostels. At the initial stage of the project, almost at the very start, I was faced with the difficult question of selecting specialists: a designer, a programmer, etc. We hired each separately, with great difficulty and in-depth study of the candidate's abilities, of course, through trial and error on our own brainchild. I dreamed that one specialist would understand my ideas and technically implement them, but each specialist put a barrier behind each completed element, without the desired responsibility for the work done, "it will shoot - it will not shoot", there is a lot of competition: it was necessary to create and stay ahead. I dreamed that the one who draws would think, the one who programmed would watch with interest what they drew and how it came out .... It was a dream. For each specialist, the threshold of responsibility ended abruptly in execution, there was no necessary relationship between them for the project to go forward, and not to jerk chaotically forward. Time passed, I got a call with a very delicate proposal to work with our product in all directions. After negotiations and the conclusion of an agreement, I never ceased to be amazed that dreams come true. They took us into professional hands. Concrete work. With the results. Any idea came true! We were the first! Will they catch up? A dream come true). I personally learned a lot from the Web Industry. Every time I am convinced that the company's motto about friendship with customers is a fact! Thank you very much for the unsurpassed professionalism, for the MOST advanced and correctly selected solutions, for efficiency and literacy! In 2014, thanks to the efforts of the Web Industry employees, the traffic to our site increased by 40%, and a special thank you for the prompt configuration of the server to solve the problem of heavy load due to high traffic. I would also mention the multiple experiments that were fired only at us and who would not repeat ... it did not work. (Game, forum, rating, reviews and social networks) because we were the first in this area. So far, no one has repeated the promotion technologies. Reflecting crazy attacks, which passed painlessly, thanks to the right defense. Our site is clear and convenient for customers and employees! We are leaders thanks to our successful partnership with the Web Industry! Special thanks to the director Anna Vladimirovna Polyakova for personal participation in our projects and thanks to our leading project manager Igor Arkhipov! THANKS TO YOU FOR INDISPENSABLE PROFESSIONALISM! I recommend to everyone! Respectfully yours, Irina Mikheeva, General Director of Formula Placement LLC.
Is it easy to have a complex website not in a large city like Moscow or St. Petersburg, but in a province like Tula? We talked about this with Evgeny Ryzhkov, General Director of OOO "Program Verification Systems".
- Hi Zhenya! Tell us what you and your company do in a nutshell?
- We are engaged in the development, promotion and sale of our own software product PVS-Studio. Since we are located in the Russian province, and more than 50% of sales are in the USA, it is clear that we attach great importance to the website. And during our life I have accumulated a lot of things about the problems of the web industry. So now I will express it all :-).
- In what state, in your opinion, is the web development market today: clean, rolling, incomprehensible, professional, or vice versa?
- Unfortunately, we have not grown to the Moscow web development market, for sure Moscow web studios are cool. But as far as the provincial market is concerned, this is horror. If you need a website that is a little more complicated than a 10-page travel agency website, then you have a problem. For example, on viva64.com we have about a thousand pages with unique (really unique) text - it seems that no one is developing such sites in the city. All the developers we talked to said, "It's very difficult, they don't do that." Rather, everyone happily took on it, but then it turned out that nothing worked.
Ultimately, we had to get a full-time web developer and build (and then maintain) the site in-house.
- Do you receive proposals to make a "rollback" or enter into informal relations from customers?
- As I said, most of our clients are in the United States, and there either it is not accepted, or it is inconvenient to discuss slippery topics via the Internet. But we have never heard anything about kickbacks from Russian clients either. If people need a product, they come and just buy. So it is quite possible to live without kickbacks. Regarding kickbacks - this is to Navalny, he is a specialist.
- Zhenya, I wanted to talk to you about personnel. How is your staff in Tula? How do you find employees in your company?
- I think about the situation with personnel as elsewhere. There are always few adequate people. And not only in Tula, but also in Moscow. And even the cool name of the company (I'm certainly not talking about myself, but about Lebedev Studio, for example) does not save the situation. For example, on the website they have developed for VTB24, there is an opportunity to choose an office for issuing a bank card. Previously, everything was fine, but some crazy comrade remade it. And now you cannot select a city - everything is in one list:
That is, if I want to get a card in the city of Tula at the office of "On Lenin", I have to look with my eyes for it in a list of several hundred items. It is clear that the person who did it simply does not care. And neither salary nor position could help him do it well. So I don’t think the problem is only in the city. There is little adequacy, but there is a lot of disregard for the attitude.
So when choosing employees for ourselves, we, first of all, try to look at the general adequacy, and not at the knowledge of any specific keywords.
- How do you qualify employees on average in the market? Is it enough for work or do you want to improve some things?
- For the sites of travel companies, the qualifications are enough, but for complex sites there is no more. And I think this is more likely a problem not even of people, but of the entire web development industry. After all, even Microsoft has problems with sites like this (the program is typed "in a column"):
It seems to me that the web industry is just young enough and has not learned to work in it at least the same way as in the field of desktop applications. Still, in desktop programs there are no such errors that the text is displayed vertically in a column.
As for the improvements, I would like people to take on a little more responsibility, check what they are doing, and do not think: "And so-a-a-a-a-k will do ..."
- We recently conducted a study together with RAEC. We interviewed 2,000 professionals in the web development market. The result is such an infographic. Can you comment on it somehow? What do you agree with, what do you disagree with?
- Some aspects are not clear to me, but I will definitely agree with the unprofessional nature of the market. However, I think that this is a problem for the entire industry, not just the Russian market.
A story from life. When we were doing the current design for our site, the first option turned out to be very beautiful, correct from the point of view of clever design books (probably), but ... it did not suit us at all. Since there was a lot of attention paid to beauty, and it was necessary to be easy to use and understandable. Fortunately, together with the designer, after several skirmishes, we were able to come up with a successful solution.
- What are you and your projects doing to make the web development market more civilized?
- The banal words about "doing for the client, not for the robots" set everyone on edge, but this does not cease to be correct. We try to make a website for a person who has a problem and wants to solve it. At the same time, you have to do much more than for a simple site. For example, on our website we regularly check the survivability of external links, wrap them in our own redirect system so that when publishing articles on other resources, we can quickly fix the broken link. It is clear that this is not suitable for all types of sites, but if a company needs a site that customers can use, then it is necessary to take into account the opinion of customers, and not seo-specialists. Another funny example of how SEO-schnicks disfigure the Internet.
Here you search on Google for "skating rinks in Tula". And you even seem to find it ... But some SEO-specialists decided that if you write “skating rinks in Tula” FIVE TIMES in a text of 600 words, and even highlight it in bold, then there will be a super-mega-SEO effect. Frankly, since I ended up on this page, then perhaps the effect was. But as soon as I see the same expression in bold five times in the text of several paragraphs, I immediately understand that the SEO-schnick wrote all this for robots, and not for me. And there is no point in reading the text.
- Zhenya, what is your wish in one phrase to the entire web development market?
- Make sites so that they are convenient for human visitors, not robots. Everything for a person!
