To restore access to the system and decrypt the data, the victim needs to pay a ransom by going to the attacker's website in the .onion zone. If the payment has not been made within 7 days, the ransom amount is doubled. "Buy" from the attacker is offered a special "decryption code", which must be entered directly on the locker screen.

G DATA experts write that they have not yet figured out how Petya works to the end, but they suspect that the malware is simply lying about data encryption.
