Once again, they asked what these strange brackets mean and how many of them there are in total. I began to look for an explanation on the Internet (I can’t write everything on my own, and I don’t remember much already) and barely found it. In the issue - solid sites with collections of graphic emoticons. But since I did find it, I’ll repost it here in its entirety so as not to look again, if anything. I will only note that this list should not be taken seriously. No one remembers it completely and does not use it. Nobody remembers Japanese exactly, and indeed everything in the second half of the text is extremely rarely used. But many of the simple emoticons listed in the first third of the text are quite useful, as are the acronyms. I corrected a couple of points in the quoted text for greater clarity.

Japanese emoticons have their own characteristic style, are quite comfortable and beautiful, and therefore have become very popular among the people. Let's look at a few examples.

Above were the classic emoticons, made up of text symbols, which are interpreted and acquire the correct shape only if you tilt your head to the left or mentally turn similar image 90° to the right.

More convenient in this regard are Japanese emoticons, when looking at which a tilt of the head is not required, because it is immediately clear what each of them means. Kaomoji, as you probably guessed, was first used in Japan and consisted of both standard characters available on any keyboard, and using hieroglyphs.

Japanese term «顔文字» when in Latin it looks like "Kaomoji". In fact, the phrase "kaomoji" is very close to the concept of "smile" (English smile - smile), because "kao" (顔) means "face" "moji" (文字)- "symbol", "letter".

Even with a cursory analysis of the meanings of these terms, it is noticeable that Europeans and residents of most countries where Latin alphabet, when expressing emotions, more attention is paid to such an element as the mouth (smile). For the Japanese, all components of the face are important, especially the eyes. This finds expression in true (not modified) kaomoji.

Subsequently, Japanese emoticons became widespread in Southeast Asia, and today they are used all over the world.
