Useful functions and modes of washing machines: what's what

Of course, when choosing a washing machine, the first thing to do is to pay attention to its main characteristics. We have already described in detail what it is in the corresponding article. In the same place, in a separate section, it was mentioned the noise level standard for modern devices.

The second thing that you should pay attention to when is, of course, the programs and functions that it has. How often do we buy a device with 24 modes, most of which turn out to be useless in practice. But now you will know which programs will come in handy, and which ones will simply be an extra burden on your wallet (after all, do not forget, each extra function is plus a few hundred rubles to the price of the device).

Main programs

By selecting one of the programs on the electronic control panel of the washing machine, you can set the number of revolutions per minute, the number of rinses and the required washing temperature. At the same time, the device makes sure that the settings correspond to the optimal ones for the type of fabric that you have chosen, and in the event of a significant error (which can lead to insufficient washing quality or mechanical damage to the laundry), makes the required adjustments.

In modern washing machines, only three or four basic programs are laid, the same for all models and designed for specific types of fabric, as well as several optional, additional modes that differ depending on the manufacturer, price and dimensions of the product. The four main programs may have different names, but the principle is the same:

  • washing woolen products at water temperatures up to 40 ° С;
  • washing linen made of delicate, thin fabrics at temperatures up to 40 ° C;
  • washing colored and synthetic products, temperature - up to 60 ° С;
  • washing of cotton and linen clothes, recommended temperature - up to 95 ° С.

Owners of expensive, advanced models with a choice of modes, as a rule, do not have to bother at all. For example, washing machines have the intelligent 6th Sense technology and are equipped with sensors that detect the weight of the loaded laundry. The owner of such a device just needs to select the type of fabric, and the display will show information about the washing temperature set in the machine for these conditions, the drum rotation frequency and the estimated time that the washing process will require.

Electronic control panel of the washing machine (pay attention to temperature conditions and values of revolutions per minute - rpm)

But to achieve effective, high-quality and economical washing of laundry in most appliances from the budget and mid-range price range, some knowledge is still required from you. We talked about the many subtleties in the article, but you can read about which modes are intended for what right now.

Additional programs

It is they that allow the user to choose the type of washing that is optimal for his conditions, to clean well clothes made of special fabrics or fabrics with special care requirements, to prevent wrinkles, to wash extremely dirty clothes, or, on the contrary, just to refresh sufficiently clean clothes. It is the additional modes that allow zealous housewives to minimize the cost of detergents. However, each new function, of course, also increases the price of the washing machine, so there is a double-edged sword, as always, and you need to choose a device based only on the presence of the most necessary programs in it, regardless of their total number.

What programs tend to be useful? Well, it's simple.

"Prewash"- needed for particularly dirty laundry. Before the actual washing process, your clothes will be kept in the detergent solution for about two hours at a temperature of 30 ° C. This will help the dirt to separate more easily, and then there will be no need to exert a strong mechanical effect on the fabric, which can damage it.

"Intensive wash"- on the contrary, it allows you to remove stubborn stains (for example, from fruit or from wine) rather quickly, without wasting time. For this, the laundry is washed at a higher temperature and a higher drum rotation speed. You can use bleaching or stain removers. Of course, things don't like this kind of treatment.

"Quick wash"- despite the similar name with the previous program, it is responsible for washing not particularly dirty laundry. It is mainly used to freshen and rinse clothes. It saves up to 40% of the time - and this is the only thing for which this mode may be required. There are no other advantages, and energy consumption, in terms of the quality of washing, turns out to be quite significant.

"Handwash"- used for gentle and gentle cleaning of fabrics. The machine washes even more neatly than can be done by hand: the drum only shakes slightly and makes long pauses between revolutions, with minimal mechanical impact on your laundry. This mode is sometimes referred to as the “Delicates program”.

Washing machine icons: anti-crease, extra rinse and quick wash

"Daily wash"- designed to freshen up clothes after a long day at work. The drum is loaded by about half, and the clothes are washed for no more than 40 minutes at a temperature of 30 ° C. The mode is very similar to the "quick wash", often it is the same button on the device.

"Economical wash"- performed at low temperature and low drum rotation speed. This increases the washing time, but it saves energy, water and detergents.

"Extra rinse"- a program that includes a second rinse cycle, which allows you to freshen up the laundry and wash out the remaining detergent from it.

"Multiple rinse"- mode of 3-, 4- or 5-fold rinsing, after which even the smallest traces of washing powder will not remain on clean laundry.

"More water"- a program designed primarily for heavily soiled and delicate laundry. It also removes powder residues and rinses thoroughly. In the "extended" version, it is called "Washing in a large amount of water" (of course, on the machine itself, the mode can be named differently or even unnamed; it can be denoted by a simple pictogram depicting splashing liquid).

"Eco wash" or "Bioenzyme phase"- intended for laundry with a significant level of dirt. In this case, modern biological-type detergents are used, containing enzymes (protein molecules, bioenzymes - see). Microorganisms "eat" dirt, due to which your clothes are well cleaned even at washing temperatures of 35-50 ° C. The fabric does not deteriorate either from the enormous heat inside the tank, or from too active rotation of the drum. However, such detergents can also be used in a regular washing machine that does not have a "bioenzyme phase" - you just need to not set the temperature above 50 ° C (if it gets hot inside the tank, the enzymes will simply die). So the usefulness of the "eco-washing" mode in the device is in great doubt, and you can not pay special attention to its presence (or absence).

But, in case you want to use washing powders with these bioadditives, you should know about the types of enzymes. This can be useful for efficient washing of laundry with organic stains: sweat, grease, vegetable stains, coffee, sauce or blood stains. In order to choose the right detergent, it should be understood that:

  • breaks down protein contamination protease;
  • breaks down carbohydrate pollution amylase;
  • breaks down fats lipase;
  • prevents the formation of pellets cellulase.

Not all powders contain all these types of enzymes, so carefully read the information on the packaging before buying such a product.

Mode switch on the washing machine

"Wool washing" or "Soft wool"- a program that allows you to wash wool products with the highest quality and efficiency without damaging the delicate structure of the fabric. The drum rotates smoothly at a low speed (36-80 rpm), the temperature and amount of water that are optimal for the wool are set. If this program is present in the washing machine, then you do not have to worry about the fact that woolen products will shrink or fade.

"Anti-crease" or "Easy ironing"- this is a spin mode in which the drum rotates at a very low speed - only about 30 rpm, with long pauses between revolutions. This ensures that the laundry is free from jams and makes it easier for you to iron the laundry after washing.

Additional functions

"Bubble wash"... It is found only in special washing machines that are equipped with an air bubble generator. These bubbles easily pass through the layers of fabric and gradually remove impurities. In this case, the drum does not rotate, because the laundry is practically not worn out during the washing process. However, there are also disadvantages. Firstly, the quality of such a wash is not very high, and you cannot clean especially difficult soiling in this way. Secondly, machines with a bubble wash function, as a rule, must be connected to both cold and hot water at the same time, because they are not capable of heating the water themselves. Thirdly, returning to the topic that has already been touched on in, for such devices it is imperative to purchase a filter that softens the water, because hard water foams rather weakly and less bubbles will be generated than necessary.

"Imbalance control system" or "Balancing control system" determines the uniformity of the distribution of the weight of the laundry in the drum and, if a discrepancy is found, tries to eliminate this imbalance: the motor starts reverse rotation. If the optimal position of things inside the device cannot be achieved, the engine starts to work again as usual, but at a reduced speed. This system is also one of the mandatory in the latest generation devices. If the user is not accustomed to properly load the laundry into the drum, then thanks to it it is possible to reduce the level of vibration and noise of the washing machine, to achieve less wear on bearings, drive belts and other internal components of the device.

"Drying"... A special function that is responsible for drying the laundry after washing. The internal heating element of the machine generates heat, and the built-in fan creates a stream of warm air that "permeates" the fabric and removes moisture particles from it. Each type of laundry has its own drying level.

"Start Timer" or "Delay on"... Present in all washing machines except the oldest or the cheapest. A convenient function thanks to which you can set the appliance to wash at night or during your absence. The maximum delay time is 3 to 24 hours, depending on the specific model.

"Drainage" is a system for removing the detergent solution from the device without the need to rotate the drum. Saves machine resource.

"Self-cleaning pump"- a function that is also present in almost all modern washing machines. If it is available, it means that the user is no longer required to check every few months if the filter is not clogged. And given the fact that many Russians do not bother themselves with such an occupation at all, this function also allows you to increase the life of the device.

"Foam control system"... It is necessary for the machine to be able to effectively rinse the laundry using as little water, electricity and detergent as possible. This can be achieved by flushing as much washing powder out of the spaces between the fabrics as possible. As with hand washing, the laundry must be wrung out between rinses. However, during the wringing process, foam forms, which coats the fabric and impairs the rinsing result. So, in devices with a foam control function, there is a special sensor that monitors the amount of foam formed. If it exceeds the permissible rate, the pump of the machine pumps out excess foam from the drum, thereby increasing the quality of rinsing - albeit, spending a certain amount of energy for this.

It's time to decide on the functions you need.
WASHING PROGRAMS AND FUNCTIONS.

There are 4 main washing programs in automatic washing machines:

1. Program for washing cotton and linen garments at a temperature up to 95 ° C;
2. Program for washing synthetics, water until 60 ° C;
3. Delicate program, water until 40 ° C;
4. Program for washing wool, water until 40 ° C;

Each of the main washing programs can include subroutines. Such additional functions are also possible:

"Bio wash"- This function is found in most modern washing machines and uses modern "biological" detergents containing enzymes.

Enzymes- these are special biologically active substances contained in washing powders that decompose organic compounds (blood stains, sauces, coffee, vegetable stains, sweat, fats, etc.), penetrating into the structure of this difficult-to-remove pollution and splitting it into substances that the washing powder can already wash off.

There are four types of enzymes:

- protease breaks down protein pollution;
-amylase breaks down carbohydrate impurities;
- lipase breaks down fats;
- cillulose prevents the formation of pellets.

You should carefully consider the choice of washing powder, because not all powders contain all four types of enzymes.

To accomplish their task, enzymes need a temperature of 40 degrees C and 12-15 minutes. The heating element of the washing machine, having brought the temperature of the washing solution to 40 degrees, stops working, and the enzymes in the washing solution begin to act (they die at temperatures above 50 degrees).

"Bio-phase" wash is present in most modern washing machines.

"Hand wash" wool- this function provides a gentle washing of wool with a very precise dosage of water (that is, with an increased water level), selection and adjustment of the optimal number of drum revolutions during spinning (reduced), tight temperature control and a special drum movement algorithm.
Thanks to this function, you can wash items that are indicated as being handwash only. The presence of a specific model of "hand wash" is indicated, as a rule, by a special icon on the control panel as well as an indication in the instruction manual.
Some manufacturers, in order to emphasize the high level of washing technologies, have special names for this program:

  • "Sweet Wave "; (Electrolux)
  • "Golden cashmere"(Ariston),
  • "Caress plus"(Zanussi).
  • "Weiche welle"(Kaiser).

"Stain removal" (stain removal). As a rule, this function means an intensive washing of cotton for heavily soiled laundry using stain removers, which allows you to remove any, even the most stubborn stains.

Note. The possibility of using stain removers or bleaching agents must be stated in the instructions for use of the washing machine.

"Drying"- a special function designed to dry the laundry after washing.

The principle of the drying function is that the internal heating element generates heat, and the fan converts it into a warm stream of air that wraps around the fabric and dries it. Each type of fabric has a different drying level.

Delay start (start timer). A function that allows you to program the start of washing with a delay of 1 - 24 hours after loading the laundry.

Surely you often have a situation when you come home after work, start washing and you have to wait for it to end, or you go to bed leaving the washed laundry in the drum of the machine until morning.

Using this function, you can program the machine so that it finishes washing in the morning when you get up. Or you need to go somewhere for a long time - you program the machine in such a way that it will finish washing by your arrival.

In addition, the start-up delay comes in handy when there are double electricity tariffs (when electricity is cheaper at night). By starting the wash at night you will save on electricity bills

"Accelerated wash". When using an accelerated wash, the washing machine reduces the number of rinses, plus the washing time itself is reduced by 10-30%. However, it must be remembered that the "Quick wash" is most effective when the load is not fully loaded and for washing lightly soiled items.

"Mini-program"- "Daily wash 30". This program is used for a short wash for laundry that is not dirty or items that need to be freshened up. Including different colors. Its duration is only 30 minutes, during which you can wash up to 3 kg of laundry at a temperature of 30 ° C.

Imbalance control or "Balancing control system". This is a system for determining the even distribution of the laundry in the drum of the washing machine.

Unbalance control is available in all washing machines with a spin speed of more than 800 rpm, however, it can be implemented in different ways for different manufacturers. When an imbalance is detected, the machine's motor stops and then starts reverse rotation to optimize the distribution of the laundry.

If the optimum distribution cannot be achieved, the engine resumes operation, but at a reduced speed. The balancing system reduces noise and vibration levels and improves reliability. Different brands have different names for this function. For example, from AEG - FUCS (Fast Balance Control System).

"Foam control"... Foam control ensures a high-quality rinse if excess foam has formed (for example, due to an overdose of washing powder).

In order to get a good rinse result when rinsing with a little water and electricity, it is necessary to wash as much detergent out of the laundry as possible. This is achieved by wringing the laundry between rinses.

As a result of spinning, foam is formed, which impairs the rinsing result. The foam sensor monitors the formation of foam. It takes more time to drain the water after each rinse, because the washing machine pump, having pumped out all the water, continues to work in order to pump out the excess foam as well. In some machines, if there is too much foam, the machine may also "prescribe" an additional rinse.

"Easy ironing"... This function is designed to protect the laundry from excessive creasing, in order to facilitate the later ironing process. Pressing the EASY IRON button activates an electronic function for determining the optimal washing conditions, which minimizes wrinkling.

"Child lock" or "child lock". The function is to lock the control panel. It is this control panel with buttons and screens that attracts unbridled children's curiosity! To prevent the child from interfering with the washing process, stopping the washing or changing the washing program, this function is used.

"Volt control" Striving to ensure constant voltage control, even if surges in one direction or another deviate by 25%. Other manufacturers of washing machines have set themselves the same challenge. What to hide, the quality of the electricity supply service in our country leaves much to be desired

"AQUASTOP"- leakage protection system. Protection is achieved by a safety valve on the water tap and an automatic pressure relief inlet hose.

Aqua control(Electrolux, ZANUSSI) - This system protects against leaks only when the water filling hose is damaged.

Waterproof-System(MIELE) - the system consists of a float in the bottom of the machine and automatic control (similar to the Aqua-Control system)

Waterproof-Metal(MIELE) - the difference between this system and the Waterproof-System is the use of a high strength reinforced hose

"FUZZY CONTROL"- an electronic system that monitors the washing process and individually adjusts the program depending on the type and amount of laundry.

Whirpool appliances call this function 6th sense.

In addition, the system Fuzzy Control adjusts the water flow rate during rinsing according to the load. If an excessive amount of foam occurs during rinsing, the system activates an additional rinse cycle and, if necessary, changes the rhythm of the drum rotation.

And finally, the Fuzzy Control system monitors the spinning process, recognizing the degree of imbalance, that is, the formation of lumps of laundry in the drum, and selects such a mode so that the laundry is constantly spinning at the maximum possible speed.

"Automatic water level control" or "auto weighing"... Most washers have the ability to determine the amount of water to be poured, depending on the load.

However, in essence, they do not weigh the laundry. The amount of water required for a particular wash depends on the absorbency of the laundry.

Electronically controlled washing machines, depending on the amount of water poured in and the load of the drum, automatically determine the wash time. Moreover, the time can be adjusted already during the washing process, depending on the conditions (temperature of the filled water, the time spent on filling the water, etc.). Ultimately, the electronics adjust the timing based on the load.

"Automatic water level control" allows you to use just as much water and electricity as is needed to wash a given amount of laundry. On the one hand, this is a significant saving, on the other, it is very convenient.

used in some washing machines, a sure sign of which is the presence of the 1/2 key on the control panel.

When using this function, it simply pours in half as much water and, accordingly, uses less electricity to heat it, regardless of how much laundry you wash - one napkin or half of the full load.

For all the disadvantages of this system, it is still better than the complete lack of control of water and energy consumption based on load in the washing machine - still found in some models of compact washing machines.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS AND MODES.

"Soak" for heavily soiled laundry;

"Super Rinse", " additional rinse "- for people with allergies;

"Stopping with water in a drum"- for laundry that will not be hung to dry immediately;

"Half load"- to limit the amount of water when not fully loaded;

"Economical wash"- wash at a lower temperature to save energy;

"Drainage"- a system for removing water from the machine without rotating the drum.

"Self-cleaning pump"- the presence of this option eliminates the need for frequent checking of the filter cleanliness, this makes it possible to extend the life of the washing machine and improve its consumer properties.

"Washing with a shower jet"- washing system, providing for the presence of special holes in the drum through which streams of water pass, containing thousands of air bubbles. The bubbles penetrate the fibers of the laundry and wash away dirt particles.

CONSTRUCTION FEATURES.

In addition to software methods of ensuring the quality of washing, one can also highlight, so to speak, “constructive”.

This refers to special devices that increase the efficiency of moistening the laundry with a detergent solution.

For this, some manufacturers use special grippers on the drum, which pick up the washing solution in the lower part of the tank and feed it up - a rain effect is created (

When choosing a washing machine, it is important to pay attention not only to the energy consumption class, drum capacity, but also to the washing modes presented in this model. In modern models, a large number of modes and functions have been developed, the correct use of which guarantees the safety and purity of the product for a long time.

Manufacturers of washing machines in the latest models present a wide range of modes and additional functions that are used to expand the capabilities of this unit and affect its cost. Before placing a program, you must familiarize yourself with what it means and when it is recommended for activation.

In different models, programs of the same type may differ insignificantly in temperature, process duration, number of rinses, spin speed.

Standard

All models have basic modes for different types of fabrics. By choosing one of them, you can adjust the temperature, the number of rinses, the spin speed. At the same time, the electronic module monitors the selected indicators, preventing them from being exceeded, so as not to lower the quality and not damage the laundry. The number of additional programs depends on the brand and the price segment of the model.

  • Cotton (linen)... It is used to care for non-dyed, non-fading colored garments made of cotton, linen at a temperature of 30, 40, 60, 90–95 ° C. Includes 4 rinses with spinning at maximum speed. Duration - from 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on temperature.
  • Synthetics... Washes synthetic, blended fabrics at 40-60 ° C with high spin. Duration - 1 hour 30 minutes-1 hour 50 minutes.
  • Handwash... Suitable for delicate fabrics labeled “Hand Wash Only”. The drum rotates slowly with long pauses. The program provides for rinsing in plenty of water at a temperature of 30–40 ° C without spinning for 50–60 minutes.
  • Wool... In gentle mode, the drum is slightly swayed in a small amount of water with a temperature of up to 40 ° C, preventing the formation of pellets and shrinkage of the item. Squeezes out at minimum speed. The cycle time is 1 hour. Woolen products are loaded at 2/3 of the permissible rate, since wet wool is heavy, and overloading the drum wears out the engine.
  • Silk or Delicate wash... Used for delicate cleaning of viscose, silk and lace products. The drum rotates slowly, with long pauses. The water temperature is 30–40 ° C. Rinse with plenty of water without spinning. At the end of a cycle lasting 1 hour, squeezes at minimum speed.
  • Express wash (fast)... Used for lightly soiled items. Washing at a temperature of 30–40 ° C with spinning at maximum speed takes 15–30 minutes.
  • Daily wash... Used for lightly soiled clothing. Water temperature - 30–40 ° C, extracts at high speeds. The cycle time is 40-60 minutes.
  • Pre-wash (Soak)... Dirty laundry is soaked for up to 2 hours in 30 ° C water before the main wash. In this case, the detergent is placed in the main and prewash compartments.
  • Intensive wash... It is used for cleaning especially dirty, non-fading things made of cotton, linen, synthetics. The cycle lasts 2–4 hours, depending on the model, it is divided into several stages: preliminary soaking - 15–25 minutes; slow wash at 60 ° C - 20-30 min; intensive at 95 ° C - 30 min; slow at 60 ° C - 30 min; intensive rinsing; squeezes at maximum speed. In this mode, the machine operates at maximum loads with a large consumption of water and electricity, therefore it is recommended to run this program in exceptional cases.
  • Biophase... Detergents with enzymes effectively remove biological stains at temperatures of 30–40 ° C. There are several types of enzymes that eliminate certain contaminants, so choose bio-products, focusing on the type of stains.
  • Eco wash... The program gently and thoroughly removes old dirt. Suitable for all types of fabrics. Relevant for washing children's clothes.

It is carried out in 2 stages:

  • biophase;
  • main wash.

At the second stage, the intensity of rotation of the drum is increased, the temperature rises to 60 ° C, enzymes are destroyed, and things are treated with other components of the detergent. Squeezes out at high speeds. Cycle time - 2 hours.

Additional functions

The use of these programs increases the safety, comfort, and economy of the process.

  • Delayed wash mode... Allows you to delay the start of the cycle by 1–24 hours. Powder is poured into the powder receptacle, laundry is loaded into the drum, the delay time is set, after which the machine automatically turns on.
  • Night mode... The program turns off the spin and the sound signal at the end of the cycle.
  • Half (partial) load. This function is useful if you need to wash a small amount of laundry. When activated, the cycle time is shortened and less water is consumed.
  • Water level control... The program automatically determines the amount of water required for an effective wash.
  • Balancing spin... To reduce vibration during spinning, the drum rotates slowly until the laundry is evenly distributed over it. Then the spin is activated at high speeds.
  • Water transparency control... Increases the number of rinses if necessary until the remaining detergent is removed.
  • Spinning... Separate spin function with self-adjusting speed.
  • Draining... Water is removed from the drum without rinsing and spinning.
  • Rinse with drain... The linen is rinsed several times, followed by spinning at the set speed.
  • Disabling the spin... The program ends the cycle without the intended spin.
  • Extra rinse... Additionally rinses things 1 more time.
  • Easy ironing... Disables the intermediate spin during rinsing, at the end of the cycle, reduces the number of revolutions. The laundry remains slightly damp, less wrinkled, which makes it easier to iron later.
  • Foam control... Excess foam is automatically removed during the entire cycle.
  • Troubleshooting... In case of interruptions in the operation of the unit, the electronic module conducts a self-diagnosis and the display shows a malfunction code.

How to choose temperature and mode

The required program is selected in relation to the material of the product and the degree of its contamination. To help you choose the right wash cycle for maintaining the quality of your garment, the manufacturer indicates on the care labels.

To wash the laundry with an independent change in the cycle temperature, the spin speeds are guided by their maximum allowable values:

  • light cotton, linen - 60–95 ° C at 1400 rpm;
  • colored cotton, linen - 40 ° C at 1400 rpm;
  • synthetics - 40 ° C at 600 rpm;
  • delicate fabrics, silk - 40 ° C at 400 rpm;
  • wool - 40 ° C at 800 rpm.

Washing rules in a washing machine

So that things do not deteriorate, and the quality of cleaning is high, the basic rules are observed:

  • dirty laundry is pre-sorted by type of fabric, color and dirtiness;
  • pockets free from contents;
  • remove belts, loose accessories, metal objects;
  • fasten zippers, buttons, buttons;
  • terry products, trousers, skirts, knitwear, socks are turned inside out;
  • turn the pillowcases and duvet covers inside out, remove the fleece that has accumulated in the corners;
  • to improve the quality of washing, laundry of different sizes is loaded into the drum;
  • detergents, softeners, bleaching agents are placed in special compartments of the powder receptacle;
  • use washing powders and gels intended for automatic machines;
  • detergents have been developed for different types of fabrics;
  • do not exceed the dosage of the agents used;
  • comply with the permissible load of laundry;
  • set the mode, temperature and spin speed depending on the loaded laundry.

To extend the life of the washing machine, the following rules are followed:

  1. Overloading the laundry significantly reduces the quality of washing and leads to breakdown of the unit.
  2. Do not leave washed laundry in the drum for a long time.
  3. Use high-quality detergents according to their purpose.
  4. Do not exceed the dosage of washing powders.
  5. Periodically carry out preventive cleaning of the machine.

A modern automatic machine is equipped with a large number of programs and functions for caring for products from any material. Their correct choice preserves the integrity of the product, increases efficiency, saves resources, and extends the life of the washing machine.

To wash stubborn or old stains on your clothes, it is not enough to use the Quick Wash cycle all the time. In order to efficiently and effectively remove dirt from things, you need to alternate fast programs with long ones at high temperatures. These include the intensive wash in the washing machine.

In this article, you will find out what this function is and how it can be useful.

How to understand what the intensive wash means, how to use it correctly? Depending on the make and model of the washing machine, this mode may differ in the amount of time spent and the temperature of heating the water.

An intensive wash differs from a usual wash in that it consists of several stages, the alternation of which allows you to effectively wash difficult stains.

Use a program for washing things that are not afraid of high temperatures from 60 to 90 degrees. These are bed linen and things made of cotton, synthetics, linen.

When choosing a mode, you need to take into account that it lasts twice as long as the usual program. Which means spending more resources and detergents.

Intensive program icon for different brands of washing machines:

    On the panel of the Samsung washing machine, you will find the name "Eco Intensive Wash" and the pattern of a soiled T-shirt.

    For LG machines, manufacturers have provided a panel with the names of each function, so choosing the right program is not difficult.

    Indesit washing machines have a T-shirt with stains on the panel.

How does an intensive wash work?

To remove stubborn dirt, the washing machine takes two to four hours. At the same time, the laundry is subjected to strong mechanical processing, therefore the program is only suitable for strong fabrics.

Stages of washing:

  1. Pre-wash or soak. Lasts for 15-25 minutes. Allows water to completely wet the fabric, and the detergent - penetrate the pollution.
  2. Then the drum rotates smoothly for 20-30 minutes.
  3. After that, an intensive, fast wash with a serious mechanical load begins. How long does it last? Up to 30 minutes, depending on the brand of washing machine, at high temperature.
  4. At the end, a rinse cycle takes place, which turns into spinning at maximum speed.

Of course, times are average: how much the machine washes depends on the manufacturer.

Note! Pre-soak means that the main wash compartment and the pre-wash compartment must be filled with powder before starting this function. Moreover, you need to use a detergent twice as much.

When using the intensive mode, the washing machine operates at full power, therefore it is not recommended to use it more than 2-3 times a month. The heating element receives a heavy load, which maintains a high temperature for a long time. The constant drainage of boiling water affects the pipes and the pump badly.

In more modern car models, the manufacturer has foreseen this problem. The water is now first cooled in the drum and then drained.

Be careful when choosing items for intensive processing. Silk, woolen and other delicate fabrics will be damaged if washed in this mode.

Popular modes

Let's consider what other programs are popular among users and why:

    Fast or Express—washing. It takes 30 minutes. During this time, a cycle of such programs is performed: washing, rinsing and spinning. Used for frequent cleaning of lightly soiled laundry.

    Daily program. The wash, reduced to 40 minutes, is intensive, which allows you to wash heavily soiled items. Of course, it is impossible to wash delicate fabrics in the fast modes.

    Delicate or hand wash. This program is just for delicate and light things. The drum rotates slowly and smoothly, which maintains the structure of the fabric. Spinning in such programs is either minimal or absent altogether.

    Biophase. It is used for complex biological contaminants (juice, wine, blood, grass). The temperature is regulated from cold to 40 degrees. It is recommended to use special powders with active enzymes.

As you can see, there are other useful features in washing machines as well. Knowing what intensive mode is, you can deal with tough, stubborn dirt. But often it is not worth using it, as it accelerates the wear and tear of things and machine parts.

How to choose a washing machine for a long time and wash well? By asking the right questions to the manager or by reading the technical specifications, everyone can choose the equipment that is suitable for the price and quality. To find out which car is better, a detailed analysis of the functions and parameters of modern models will help.

What characteristics should you pay attention to?

All the characteristics that need to be considered when choosing a "washing machine" are divided into three groups:

  • constructive,
  • technical,
  • functional.

Characteristics from the first two groups will tell you whether the machine is suitable for its size, the amount of loaded laundry, as well as ease of use. Technical parameters affect noise, energy consumption and service life.

The design parameters include the size of the machine, the amount of loaded laundry and the loading method - frontal or vertical. Their selection is individual - after all, very often the place for a typewriter is very limited. Before buying, you need to determine a place for new equipment and take measurements, find out what the maximum height, width and depth should be.

As a rule, the larger the machine is in size, the more laundry can be loaded into it in one wash. This also needs to be taken into account. For a large family, a 3 kg load will not be enough. But buying a device with a "margin" is not worth it. Although the documents do not indicate the minimum load of laundry, if you put one or two blouses in a large machine, the quality of the wash will suffer. Manufacturers recommend loading the drum 2/3, which ensures friction between fabrics and guarantees a high-quality wash. Cars are available with a load of 3 to 12 kg, so that everyone can choose their own version.

For a family of 3-4 people, the best option would be a machine with a load of 5 kg. For each next family member, you need to add another 1.5 kg.

The choice of front or vertical loading also often depends on the availability of free space. If the loading doors open from the side, the machine can be installed under the washbasin. And built-in models are frontal. Vertical loading has its advantages - it has less depth. In addition, when loading, you can open the lid at any time and adjust the amount of laundry: pick up a random item or add a few more.

Functional

The number of programs and additional functions affect the usability of the machine. For example, if there is a delicate wash, you do not have to manually wash your favorite linen, you can entrust it to his technique. How to choose the right washing machine based on its functionality? Should I choose "everything and more", or is it better to limit myself to the most necessary programs? Let's figure out what manufacturers offer and what convenience it provides.

Interface

You need to start talking about washing programs from the control. Today there are two options: mechanical and electronic. Mechanical interface - rotary switches. The program selector works like a timer, so the progress of the wash can be seen by moving it. Many people prefer this interface, as it is fairly easy to understand. In addition, there is a prejudice that the mechanics are more reliable, and if a breakdown does occur, it is cheaper to fix the control mechanism.

It must be said that the technology of the new generation is quite reliable, therefore, electronically controlled cars do not burden their owners with repair histories. The visually electronic interface is the buttons used to set the washing programs. There is a LED display on the control panel, it shows at what stage of the wash, what is the water temperature and the number of revolutions.

Some new models "communicate" not only through the display, but also through voice announcements. A pleasant female voice informs about the beginning and the end of the wash. Sometimes it can be inconvenient as well. For example, if you use the "delayed start" function, then at night the voice notification will be a complete surprise.

Main programs

When choosing a machine, you need to carefully read the washing modes. In order not to get confused in the store, it is better to make a blank at home - a list of the most necessary programs. In modern models, there can be up to 20 programs. The cheaper ones have 8-10 washing options. Perhaps these 10 options completely coincide with your needs, then there is no point in overpaying. All programs are divided into several groups.

By type of fabric:

  • cotton;
  • synthetics;
  • silk;
  • wool;
  • delicate fabrics;
  • kids clothes;
  • sportswear;
  • pillows and blankets;
  • fabrics with a water-repellent effect (outerwear).

According to the intensity of washing (according to the degree of soiling):

  • intensive wash;
  • bio wash;
  • quick wash;
  • washing with a shower stream;
  • soak;
  • prewash;
  • boiling;
  • additional rinse.

Additional programs:

  • half load;
  • economical wash;
  • hand wash wool;
  • anti-crease and anti-crease mode (easy ironing);
  • drainage;
  • "Hygiene" mode (anti-allergenic;
  • Silver nano.

Most of the programs do not raise questions, since their name speaks for itself, but some are worth familiarizing yourself with.

  • Soak program appeared recently and implemented by different companies in different ways. Electrolux washing machines allow you to soak laundry for a long time: if you do not switch to the washing program for 19 hours, they drain the water themselves and turn off. In other machines, laundry can be soaked for 15 to 30 minutes.
  • "Hand wash wool" differs from the usual mode for woolen garments. In this mode, the drum does not spin, but sways. This prevents the garment from warping and pilling.
  • "Economical wash"- a program that allows you to get clean laundry with less water and energy consumption, but such washing takes much more time.
  • The "Drainage" mode ensures that the water is drained without twisting the drum, which is important for delicate fabrics.
  • Washing in the "Baby clothes" mode- this is soaking, washing, boiling and double rinsing for 3 hours. In this case, washing is carried out in a large amount of water so that the laundry remains soft and allergens do not accumulate in it.
  • "Bio-washing" is optimal if powders with enzymes are used. The temperature regime of this program does not destroy biologically active components - lipase, protease, amylase.
  • Hygiene program- washing that destroys allergens in the laundry. This is achieved by a special temperature regime.
  • Silver nano - allows you to disinfect linen and clothes with silver ions. Removes not only dirt, but also unpleasant odors.

Additional functions

In addition to the soaking, washing and rinsing programs, some other useful functions are implemented in automatic machines. Some of them are essential. For example, Aqua stop is one of the safety systems, protection against leaks. Even if the washing is carried out in the absence of the owners, there is no need to be afraid of a flood in the apartment.

There are several more "safe" modes in washing machines.

  • "Childproofing"- locks the control panel after starting work, so the baby will not be able to reprogram the wash, as well as open the door.
  • Aqua alarm - a sound signal that turns on when a leak occurs.
  • Imbalance control- distributes the laundry evenly in the drum. Due to this, the service life of the machine is increased, vibration and noise level are reduced.

There are additional "convenient" and "economical" programs.

  • "Start Timer"- delayed start - allows you to start washing at any convenient time.
  • Aqua sensor - independently determines the need for repeated rinsing, thereby saving water and energy.
  • "Automatic water dosage"- allows you to use the optimal amount of water, without overspending.
  • Rinse delay- prevents the machine from draining water immediately after washing. The hostess activates the rinse mode on her own, when she can immediately take out and hang things.

Washing machine with dryer or steam generator

Separately, it must be said about two types of machines with special capabilities - drying and steam generation. Warm air dryers dry the laundry completely. Such an opportunity will come in handy if there is a baby in the house and the linen does not have time to dry naturally. The ability to quickly dry in a typewriter will also help those who forget to prepare their clothes in advance and dry them "on the go." The disadvantages of such machines are that their cost is higher, and the energy class is lower. When drying, they consume a lot more energy, but if this mode is not turned on, then the consumption will be standard.

Washing machines with steam processing function have appeared recently. Initially, it was an alternative to Silver nano - disinfection of things with silver ions.

Today, models of steam generators perform several functions.

  • Steam wash - wash with water with additional steam treatment. Detergents under the influence of steam dissolve better, clean things and wash out of them.
  • Steam stain removal Is dry cleaning. In order to remove stains, you need to choose the right cleaning agents for them.
  • Antibacterial treatment.
  • Steaming helps to smooth things out... After 20 minutes in the typewriter, hang the clothes on a hanger and iron them a little if necessary.
  • Refresh is a convenient mode for freshening up clothes without washing. Removes unpleasant odors and light dirt.

As a rule, manufacturers implement 2-3 steam treatment modes in one model, so you need to choose the appropriate option. Refresh mode is suitable for those who like to look perfect. Not all clothes can be washed daily, in which case steaming will help keep them in impeccable condition. This program will also be useful for those who have a lot of stuffed toys in their home. The steam will refresh and disinfect them.

"Steam wash" is indispensable for allergy sufferers - steam removes all allergens and washes away detergents well from fabrics. Steaming is a useful function if you need to iron things that have been crumpled for a long time. It will remove not only folds, but also the smell of caked laundry.

The steam wash requires much less powder. You cannot rely on previous experience with conventional machines, it is better to read the instructions carefully.

Specifications

The technical characteristics of the automatic machine are the most important of all its characteristics. This is not a cheap technique, you will not change it every month, so we choose a model by comparing the following parameters:

  • energy class;
  • maximum power consumption;
  • washing class;
  • engine's type;
  • noise level;
  • the material from which the tank is made;
  • speed and spin class.

The energy consumption class is necessarily indicated in the documentation and on the body of the equipment itself. It is designated by Latin letters. Although in theory this figure ranges from A (A +, A ++, A +++) to C, in practice, cars of class A and higher are now on sale. Class C models are presented in the segment of washing machines with a drying function. The difference in power consumption between A +++ and C class machines is quite significant and reaches 12 W per hour.

When washed at full load at 60 ° C, the model marked A +++ takes 15 W / h and C - 27 W / h. In addition to the class, the marking also has a maximum consumption - from 2 to 4 kW. This is the energy consumption value in the most energy-intensive mode. For example, if you turn on the drying all the time, then the electricity consumption will be exactly the same.

Type of engine and tank for washing

Two types of motors can be installed in the automatic machine - collector or inverter. In new models, the second option is installed. The inverter motor runs quieter because it has no brushes. When washing, only the sounds of the wash itself will be heard without the hum of the motor. The service life of such an engine is longer than that of a collector engine, therefore, a longer warranty period is given for it.

The material from which the tank is made affects the performance and life of the washing machine. There are three options here - stainless steel, enamelled steel or composite materials. Stainless steel is a more durable material that can withstand 50 years or even 100 years of operation. However, the machine is unlikely to withstand such a period. Composite drums are designed to operate for 20-25 years, which corresponds to the total service life.

The enamelled tanks proved to be ineffective during operation. If the slightest crack or chip appears there, the tank quickly rusts and has to be replaced. This is the worst option. If you throw back the enamel and choose from stainless steel and plastic, then you need to consider the following points:

  • stainless steel is more "noisy";
  • a composite drum will reduce the cost of the machine without reducing the quality of washing;
  • plastic retains heat better.

Noise

The noise level must be indicated in the characteristics of the machine. It consists of two digits. The first one shows what kind of noise will be during washing, the second one - during spinning. It is better to buy a model with indicators not higher than 55/70 dB. If it is important that the appliances are really quiet, then you need to choose a washing machine with an inverter motor and a composite tank.

The noise of the machine, in addition to its characteristics, is influenced by the installation and quality of the floor. If the floor is uneven horizontally, vibration will occur during spinning. If it is not possible to eliminate unevenness in the floor, it is better to use anti-vibration pads or rubber feet to reduce noise.

Washing and spinning class

The washing class indicates how efficiently the washing machine copes with this task. Washing efficiency is marked with Latin letters from “A” to “G”, where “A” is the highest indicator, that is, the laundry is washed carefully, and dirt is removed as much as possible. In practice, on sale you can find two options "A" and "B" and it is impossible to see the difference visually.

Spinning differs in two parameters - class and speed. The spin speed is indicated in revolutions per minute and can be from 400 to 1800 rpm. Manufacturers always indicate the maximum possible speed. Here, more does not always mean better, different fabrics need a different spin mode, and too high a speed can ruin clothes. The best option is a machine with 1000 rpm. More is needed in the case of frequent washing of terry clothes, blankets or outerwear. The spin class refers to the residual moisture content of washed and wrung clothes. For class A this figure is 45%, C - 54%, D - 72%.

What should you choose?

Choosing a washing machine, everyone is guided by their own needs and preferences. Someone prefers "status" equipment - the latest models of the most famous brands, someone is interested in economical consumption of water and electricity, and someone wants the machine to be able to do everything - to perform more functions.

If we talk about the correspondence of price and quality, then in the middle price segment, you can find the ideal option for any need. Expensive models are, as a rule, a surcharge for elitism, design and technological innovations. With today's development of technology, if new products are successful, they are quickly introduced by competitors. If you carefully understand the characteristics in different models, you can choose the best option without overpaying. We hope this information will become your reliable assistant!
