Since the days of the iPhone 6, Apple has not been able to create a new chassis for the iPhone, as a result, the design of the devices remained the same and it is almost impossible to distinguish the iPhone 6 from the iPhone 6s / 7 or 8, looking at the front panel.

For each manufacturer, a well-tuned chassis, namely the case and the layout of the elements in it, means the least number of problems in a new device. All the weaknesses have already been identified and corrected, which means that the percentage of rejects cannot be high, it decreases over time. Apple's loyal audience is used to the fact that the company retains the iPhone's design for two generations: a model with a digital designation comes out, then an improved version with the S prefix, and the design changes to the next generation. This approach worked in the days of Steve Jobs, but stopped working under Tim Cook. In fact, we can say that the company has been using the same design for four years. Boring. This is the word that many said when they looked at the iPhone 7, since nothing appeared in it that would greatly differ the device from previous devices. Exactly the same can be said about the iPhone 8 compared to the "seven", there are so few changes that the fingers of one hand are enough. And outwardly they are almost twin brothers, at least when you look at the front panel.

Interestingly, the market did not wait for Apple to wake up, and went far ahead, the tone was set by Samsung. In the beginning, EDGE models appeared, curved screens removed the display bezels, then the fashion for frameless screens became ubiquitous, and each company offered its own vision of this issue. The eighth generation Galaxy has made another leap, the usable screen area has grown, the margins at the top and bottom have become minimal. When the first design leaks of the Galaxy S8 / S8 Plus surfaced, Apple decided to postpone the launch of the iPhone X from 2018 to the end of 2017. It's hard to judge how coincidence this coincidence is, but we have the words of Apple Senior Vice President Dan Riccio (Dan Riccio), said in an interview with Mashable. He claims that the launch of the iPhone X was planned in 2018, but the top management of the company decided to move the deadline and they had no margin for error in the design of this device. The development of the device in a short time means that when using the new chassis, the company does not have time for lengthy tests, in fact, the model goes to the market with all the childhood sores, which will begin to be eliminated as they are identified. But Apple decided on this, since the company was never able to reach the level of sales in 2015, which was the maximum for it. Moreover, the new flagships of the company are sold worse from year to year than the previous models, and the sales volume is kept at the expense of entering the lower price segments, today the price of a new iPhone without operator subsidies starts at $ 200. To maintain sales, the company needed a flagship for the maximum money, something more expensive than the iPhone Plus, the iPhone X model claims to be such a flagship. The Roman dozen in the name hints at an anniversary, exactly ten years have passed since the first iPhone appeared. But most people call the device "iPhone X".

The cost of the iPhone X is the highest in all markets, in the US it starts from $ 1,000 plus taxes, in Russia - from 79,990 rubles (approximately $ 1,300). Not a single flagship on the market is sold at a comparable cost, here for the first time Apple entered a market segment that was small and only top-end iPhone models with the maximum memory level were present, the basic versions have never been sold for that kind of money. From this we can conclude that the iPhone X has the maximum image component, this is a phone for wealthy people who want to emphasize the opportunity to spend more on such a smartphone than anyone else. And this aspect implies the need to make the device as unlike the previous devices of the company as possible, which was fully succeeded. They did not try to make it interesting in terms of ergonomics or use cases, the main task was to make it different from all previous generations of iPhones, because this is what a loyal audience wanted. And that is what she got.

The positioning of the iPhone X can be reduced to a simple statement - this is a smartphone for those who are used to buying an iPhone without regard to the cost and at the moment when it is just released. Based on the price of this solution, we can say that the annual market volume in Russia will be about 200-220 thousand devices, of which only 120-130 thousand are those who purchase it at full price, the rest of the sales will be paid by installments. With a market volume of 28 million smartphones per year, you can easily calculate what percentage the sales of the iPhone X will take. As usual when launching a key product, Apple created an artificial rush, queues and a sense of scarcity. But a couple of weeks after the start of sales, we can say that there is no shortage, and gray traders were surprised to find that there is no noticeable demand for the model, and now they are competing in who will throw off more from the initial price for this device. In my opinion, the iPhone X is the most controversial iPhone in recent years, and in this review we will talk about why this is so.

Design, dimensions, controls

The model is available in two colors - silver and space gray. In the first version, the back is white, and the sides are chrome-plated, in the second, black is used both here and there.

I like the black phone, which you see in the review. But, in fairness, both look good. Now let's talk a little about the design, as it is not as straightforward in terms of ergonomics as we would like it to be.

I'll start with the protruding camera module on the back. Unlike the iPhone 8 Plus, the camera module here has sharp edges and is positioned vertically. This creates inconvenience when you take the device out of your jeans pocket, they can catch on the fabric, the module sticks out too much. Dropping the iPhone X is contraindicated, but more on that below.

Another moment is when the device is lying on the table, on its back. In fact, it always lies on the camera module, if you press the body, you will see how it starts to walk on a flat surface (this is shown in our video). This is an obvious miscalculation of engineers, which cannot be explained by anything.

The dimensions of the device are such that it is wide and quite noticeably cuts into the hand (it is narrower than the iPhone 8 Plus). So, the dimensions of the iPhone X are 143.6x70.9x7.7 mm, the weight is 174 grams, and for the iPhone 8 Plus it is 158.4x78.1x7.5 mm, the weight is 202 grams. Despite the smaller width, the lack of rounding plays a role here, my hand is used to the ergonomics of smartphones, where the front and back panels have bevels, due to which they are very comfortable to hold. There is nothing of the kind here, the ergonomics is comparable to the devices of five years ago, no one really worked on it.

The back panel is made of tempered glass, as is the front panel that covers the screen. There is an oleophobic coating both here and there, but do not expect that the marks from the hands will not be visible, they are clearly visible. The glass panel on the back is for wireless charging. But, just like in the "eights", a strange solution was used here, namely, they saved on the film under the glass, which keeps it from shedding upon impact. For example, when you smashed the iPhone 4, which also had a glass case, albeit designed differently, it cracked, but the pieces of glass held on and did not fall out, everything is exactly the opposite. Take a look at pictures of iPhone X shattering and what glass is. You can find many such photos on the net, as well as various home-grown drop tests, where a comparable result is achieved.

After falling even from a small height, the iPhone X is almost guaranteed to receive some kind of damage, for example, you can look at the CNet test or if you like the video, then see how quickly and efficiently iPhone X breaks from the guys at SquareTrade who call it the most fragile and easily shattered iPhone.

Therefore, I recommend that you immediately buy a case and hide the iPhone X in it, because one careless movement and you will break the device, and replacing the back panel will cost you half the cost of the base model (in the US it is $ 529!). Screen replacement is slightly cheaper. At the moment, there are no Chinese glasses and substitutes yet, so the price of repairs will be cosmic. Hence the conclusion that you can use this device without a cover only at your own peril and risk, it is too fragile. I have already seen several of my comrades that at the same time they glued a protective glass to the screen - it distorts colors, but it gives additional insurance in case of a fall. Chance that the screen won't fly apart.

The cover will also remove all questions regarding the stainless steel side frame, it is chrome-plated, and if handled carelessly, the paint can peel off pieces. This is not a warranty case, but the result of careless handling. I am sure that for most iPhone X users it will be impossible to achieve this result, it is unlikely. Therefore, I personally would not pay attention to this moment, anything can happen in life, and almost any thing can be broken or scratched.

The layout of the controls is typical for Apple, on the left side you see a lever for silent mode, below - two volume keys. On the right side there is an on / off button (in fact, it is now more like unlocking and calling Siri), just below is a tray for a nanoSIM card.

There is a speaker on the lower end on the right, the second speaker is on the front panel above the screen. They work in pairs, and the sound volume is excellent, in this parameter the iPhone X can outperform many flagships, and I like it in this aspect.

There is a microphone at the bottom, as well as at the rear of the camera unit. The microphone was not placed on the top end. The noise cancellation system works average, in noisy conditions your interlocutor hears extraneous sounds.

This is the first iPhone that does not have a fingerprint sensor; in the off state, the device looks due to this faceless, like many other modern smartphones, it is impossible to recognize an iPhone in it.

But when the screen is working, you see a notch at the top, it was added to accommodate the TrueDepth sensor, which is necessary for unlocking in the face. That's all about the appearance of the device, let's move on to its other parts.

Display

Before talking about the display on the iPhone X, it is simply necessary to make a lyrical digression, since it is this component of the smartphone that causes a break in patterns, cognitive dissonance and personally demonstrates the absence of the rudiments of logic in a huge number of people. Apple does not have engineers or people in charge of designing screens, they are physically absent. Apple does not have any patents related to OLED technology. Experience in this area is practically zero, and the first screen is the one that the company ordered from Samsung, which, on the contrary, spent more than ten years on technology development and fine-tuning. Today, 95% of all OLED screens in the world are made by Samsung, the company is a leader in this direction, and Apple simply had no alternative where to buy such screens.

In a huge number of places I come across such a phrase as "OLED-screen from Apple", which has nothing to do with reality. Moreover, the phrase that Apple has created the highest quality screen is a marketing gimmick, since the company does not have any opportunities and technologies for this. Apple could have ordered such a screen from Samsung.

Now, another important point - Samsung's strategy has always been simple and straightforward: to sell only outdated technologies to the side, leaving the best for its flagships. With the request from Apple, nothing has changed, the approach has remained exactly the same. Another thing is that Apple's marketing and many people who have joined this game claim that the screen in the iPhone X is the best thing in the world. Logics? It is absent in this statement, however, let's dive into important details.

For many years in a row, Apple fans have argued that Samsung AMOLED screens are something outrageously bad, they have the wrong colors (they usually did not know what color rendition is), too high brightness (this was a shame when the advantage recorded in the minuses), and they also contain Pentile. Since mid-2016, I knew that Apple was planning to buy Samsung AMOLED screens, and I was wondering how the tone of the statements would change. It has changed to the diametrically opposite: now the iPhone X screen is the standard and the future, which happened unexpectedly.

My first greetings are sent to the members of the Pentile witness sect, who with the naked eye see the very subpixels (when a point on the screen consists of separate points and they can see them without a microscope, which is impossible even in theory, but they know how to do it). The iPhone X uses the Diamond Pixel screen structure, it is fully consistent with that used in screens from Samsung, for example, in the same Note 8.

At a resolution of 2436x1125 pixels, it is not just impossible to see some subpixels, this is from the realm of fantasy. Unfortunately, Apple could not buy the latest generation screens from Samsung, since their cost was prohibitively high, Samsung left such matrices for their devices. As a result, Apple was content with generation 5, that is, this is the level of the Galaxy S6 matrix (for comparison, the Note 8 has a generation 8 screen, and in the S9 it will be the 9th generation in six months). For an ordinary person, all these generations look like a kind of gibberish that says nothing. But let's try to figure out the details and what Apple saved on for the iPhone X screen, since they did not want to overpay for the latest developments.

So, the first ideological solution is to limit the screen brightness, by default it is set to 625 nits (manual adjustment), that is, it is exactly the same level as that of the iPhone 7/8 and other models. This is a comfortable level for indoor use, but in the bright sun it is not so good (sorry, but it rains in Moscow, and it is still difficult to show this in photographs). For comparison, in automatic mode, the iPhone X produces up to 805 nits, under the same conditions and also with automatic adjustment, the Samsung Galaxy S8 + is 1000 nits, and the Note 8 is 1240 nits. That is, the current flagship from Samsung produces brightness almost twice as high, which makes the picture in bright light much more realistic, you do not see fading and, when photographing, you can achieve realistic results, for example, when correcting the exposure, rather than doing it at random.

And this is how the numbers look for the Galaxy S6, just compare them and think about which smartphone they are closer to.

The same measurement technique, the same people. And here are the results that speak for themselves. Let's look further to understand what they played at Apple and how they "improved" the screen in the iPhone X.

The disadvantage of OLED technology (AMOLED is just the commercial name for the same technology from Samsung) is that screens burn out if a static picture is displayed for a long time and at maximum brightness. On the first generations of flagships up to and including the Galaxy S3, this was possible in practice, later the possibility of artifacts was minimized, despite the increase in the maximum brightness of the screens. Most of the pictures with burnt-out screens are samples from store windows, since in Retail Mode smartphones are removed from the limitation on the maximum brightness of screens and at the same time they often work 24/7 (in theory they should be turned off at night, in practice this often does not happen , and therefore the screens burn out). The task of Retail Mode is marketing - to attract with a colorful screen, but in manual mode it is impossible to get the same brightness.

Samsung has long ago limited the maximum brightness of AMOLED screens in manual mode, today this parameter is 525 nits at the maximum, and without filling the red division of the adjustment - 450-470 nits. Why? The answer is obvious - if you give the user the opportunity to turn the brightness to maximum, then with a high degree of probability this will lead to screen burnout. Therefore, only automatic adjustment gives maximum brightness.

Apple, on the other hand, believed that the user can crank the brightness up to 625-635 nits on their own (550 nits is a watershed, after which problems begin for OLED). And this increases the chances of being faced with the fact that the screen may burn out. Apple explains this by the peculiarities of the technology, and this is a non-warranty case. After the release of the iPhone X, there was even a separate article from Apple that explains that high brightness leads to screen burnout.

It remains a mystery to me why deliberately create a screen that can burn out during operation, since the brightness in manual mode is raised above a safe level. The answer, probably, is that this is the only way to show that the screen is better than on flagships from Samsung in such conditions. Although in real life they look the same plus or minus. And the same DisplayMate, which for some reason forgot to mention these features, puzzles me.

One more thing - Samsung phones have long ago implemented a separate DSP for analyzing the picture on the screen, it came from TVs, and the technology was constantly getting more complicated. The same adaptive mode is implemented using this chip. Among other things, in the last two generations of devices, a program has been added that analyzes the possibility of screen burn-in and forcibly changes the settings if it sees that it is likely (including with manual settings). Plus, it changes the display of system elements imperceptibly for the user so that there is no burnout, even in theory (this is the same as the virtual Home button is implemented, it is redrawn, but you do not notice it, and it seems to you that it is always in one place and alone and the same). There is nothing like this in the iPhone X, there is just a screen without any additional strapping that could do something like this.

Let's go further. The contrast of the screen is 1,000,000: 1, for comparison, in the iPhone 8/8 Plus it is 1300: 1 and 1400: 1, the screens differ in perception like heaven and earth, the display in the iPhone X is much better than in other iPhones. But the comparison with the Galaxy Note 8, it will lose, these are matrices of different generations, the display from the iPhone should rather be compared with the Galaxy S6. But for the iPhone audience, in any case, this is a strong step forward, since they have not seen anything comparable, they simply have no experience using high-quality AMOLED screens.

Just like in the "eights", the iPhone X has True Tone technology, which uses an RGB sensor on the front panel to assess the lighting conditions and shifts the white balance point for more natural colors. In my opinion, this is a good technology that makes the picture more natural, no matter where you look at it, in bed under the covers, in the office or on the street. The sensor is trying to bring the picture to some common denominator. Samsung screens of the 8th and 9th generation use more advanced RGB sensors, with a more accurate assessment of illumination, plus two of them - on the front and back surfaces. The high brightness allows you to adjust the white balance over a wide range, which makes the picture the same in almost all conditions. This is not the case with the iPhone X, lacking in-display capabilities. Almost everyone I know turned off TrueTone on X, since the white color fades into yellow, which is not very pleasant. Few people like this effect, on the iPhone 8 Plus this technology works better on an IPS matrix.

Now we need to talk about the cutout on the screen. Apple says the screen is 5.8 inches, but in practice this is not the case due to the notch at the top for the speaker and other sensors. In most programs, this space on the sides of the speaker is not used in any way, and it cannot be used. Even Apple did not come up with anything better than simply outputting the network signal, the Wi-Fi designation, and the battery there.

It's a pity, but there is simply no room for the battery percentage, for some reason Apple thought it was unimportant. I really hope that the company will come to its senses and return the percentage of the charge, so that we can see this parameter from any menu.

Now for some fun math. Remember when phone makers started to install massive cameras, but indicated the thickness of the case without taking into account this blotch, so that the dimensions did not seem excessive? In the iPhone X, we have the opposite situation, when the manufacturer is trying to make it clear that the screen is larger than it actually is. The reason is banal, it needed parity with the Galaxy S8, which has a 5.8-inch screen. And this parity was achieved due to an interesting trick, the screen diagonal is measured taking into account the cutout. But if you remove the notch and parts of the screen above it (as it will be in most programs), then it turns out that the screen is 5.5 inches, and not 5.8 inches, as we are told. Also note that the screen has rounded edges, both at the top and bottom.

The claimed aspect ratio is 19.5: 9, but we remove the notch and get 18.5: 9, that is, the ratio is completely similar to the Samsung flagships. Why is this so? The answer lies in the fact that for applications such as video, for example, YouTube, this aspect ratio is more or less acceptable. Compared to the iPhone 8, you will get about 10% more picture on the iPhone X screen when watching a video, but in programs (lists) this will already be a big gain.

It remains incomprehensible to me how at Apple, where once upon a time Jobs paid attention to little things, they could shoot with a camera in such a way that the final result does not stretch to the entire screen. It's just one feature that makes the user enjoyable, as he sees the picture in full screen. In the same Samsung, you can simply choose the geometry of the image that is close to you. Here? And here in the iPhone X you have huge black bars on the sides. And after that, you want to say that at Apple, someone thinks about the little things?

Do you want to be surprised again? For example, you know for sure that 5.8 inches is more than 5.5 inches, right? In fact, the screen in the iPhone 8 Plus is about 5% larger. Not god knows what the difference, but it is noticeable - the Plus is wider, but lower in height, while the iPhone X is taller. This is how entertaining mathematics turns out.

The cutout in the iPhone X screen is an attempt, in the absence of technology and even a semblance of control over the supplier (Samsung in this case, well done, they just got their way and received super profit from Apple for old developments) to do something unique. I'm sure Samsung was twisting a finger to the temple when Apple decided to stand out that way. No curved screens, because they are much more difficult to manufacture, no real benefits, just a notch. It is also called eyebrows or beard.

This is an objectively stupid decision, as most developers will have to adapt their programs to the rounded screens of the iPhone X, as well as the notch that this device has. Sooner or later they will do it, but this is just a waste of work, since this cut does not make any sense. This is a game with numbers to get a larger diagonal for less money and show that we have a large screen, no less than a direct competitor.

Just for comparison, Samsung's flagships have 3K screens with a resolution of 2960x1440 pixels, while the iPhone X has a 2K screen with a resolution of 2436x1125 pixels. It is clear that you can close your eyes to this and consider the difference insignificant. As well as counting all the other parameters of the screens are not as important as they could be.

It is with great pleasure that I read how they praise the screen in the iPhone X, as this confirms the words I wrote a couple of years ago that the screens in the Galaxy S6 (all models of that brood) are excellent and ahead of their time. The fact that the iPhone X has their old version is good. As well as the fact that they added HDR support for video (only for certain services for the United States, in Russia it is almost useless, although there are such pictures in iTunes).

And Apple regretted the extra $ 5 for adding AlwaysOn Display to its flagship, leaving room for "improvements" in the future, so to speak. Likewise, there are no additional power saving modes (transferring the screen to black and white), which is also very expensive for Apple.

You have, however, the ability to adjust the screen to gray shades through color correction, then the device will work longer on a single charge (this mode was once on Samsung, then it was abandoned, since it was not used - people choose extreme energy saving) ...

The feature described in DisplayMate is setting up each iPhone X screen separately, that is, they do not have a single calibration, each is manually configured. This gives a certain spread in the picture and white color when comparing different devices. When compared with the devices of my friends, in half of the cases, this difference was clearly visible. Not cosmic, but it is still present.

The short conclusion is that this is the best screen among all iPhones, but it does not stand up to comparison with the current technological flagships of the market, it lags behind by several years. The cost of repairing the screen, if you break it, is $ 279 in the United States (in Russia - 35 thousand rubles), additional AppleCare + insurance will cost you $ 199, then the screen will be replaced for $ 29 one time. It is not necessary to beat this device, it is too expensive.

Apple's marketing is, as always, at its best, and people argue that Samsung made the best screen not for themselves, but for Apple. Although the power of conviction is such that you can believe in this.

The iPhone X was in such a hurry that they didn't even check how it performed in the cold. Therefore, the sensitivity of the screen did not increase when you went outside from a warm room, it stopped responding to pressing for 10-20 seconds. This was fixed in the latest iOS update, but this is just a demonstration of how raw the device entered the market.

Just a couple of words about PWM, or rather, the flickering that is present at the minimum screen brightness. This is available both on Samsung smartphones and on the iPhone X. I do not see this as a problem, since I practically never use low screen brightness. But, perhaps, to someone it will seem important.

22. Face ID can really be fooled

Apple promises that a random person will be able to unlock your iPhone X with a probability of 1 in a million, but stipulates that the probability of a mistake is higher for relatives and children. We tested Face ID with two twins. Their parents are not sure if their daughters are identical twins. The girls are very similar, but it is not so difficult to distinguish them. We scanned the face of one of the sisters with a smartphone and handed it over to the second - the device unlocked. The reverse experiment also gave a positive result.

34. The main camera is one of the best

DXOMark - one of the most reputable camera sites of any kind - ranked the iPhone X second behind the Google Pixel 2 with 97 points out of 100. And its camera is even better than the iPhone 8 Plus: also 12 megapixels, also optical and digital stabilization, also 2x optical and 10x digital zoom, also 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, but the "Ten" has an f / 2.4 aperture versus f / 2.8 of the "Eight".

Why iPhone X?

The release of the iphone X has become an event that the whole world is talking about. In addition to the characteristics and design, the name of the smartphone aroused no less interest. Why X? How does the name of the new item sound correctly? Is the iPhone 9 coming? The questions are quite clear, and we have the answers to them. Let's start in order. Correctly the name of the phone sounds like iPhone "ten". "X" is the Latin number 10, not "X". Ten years ago, the first iPhone was born, and Apple, by skipping the number 9, wanted to show what a breakthrough the company had achieved over that decade.

How has it always been? A model appeared, which received, for example, number 4. It was replaced in a year by a more perfect model, which was assigned the symbol "S". The next model got a higher number and so on. It turns out that Apple has jumped a whole lineup, presenting the "top ten" at once. For a day without a case, if there are scratches on the surface, then microscopic ones, I will try to carry the iPhone X actively, with keys, and then I will tell you what happened to the case and how. I don't think it will be easy to destroy the iPhone X - by the way, the glass can be replaced at an authorized service without replacing the entire case.

The control panel with switches comes out if you slide your finger down from the upper right corner. The display supports TrueTone technology, a diagonal of 5.8 inches, a resolution of 2436 × 1125 pixels, 458 ppi. I refused to talk about boring characteristics, but you can't do without it - there is something to work on. I would like to be able to turn on the login to the desktop IMMEDIATELY after FaceID is triggered, I would like to get updates for a number of programs as soon as possible. As I write these lines, there are no updates, and Sberbank, for example, looks awful, with dark stripes at the top and bottom. I suppose that from the third of November I will have to update my hundred programs properly. And don't forget, the iPhone X reboot now happens like an eight - press volume up, volume down, hold down the power button until the logo appears.

A little more about gestures - they ask what to do if you clicked on the icon to change the location or delete the program, and they start to "shake" - you need to slide your finger upward. And in general, do not be alarmed - the bar at the bottom, indicating Home, helps you to get used to it faster, the gestures here work as they should, I did not notice any failures or lack of logic. Within a couple of hours, you can control the iPhone X with your eyes closed.

Water and stone

The smartphone is not afraid of water and dust, "Degree of protection IP67 according to IEC 60529", as the official data says, in reality you can take it in the bath, shower, swim and dive. But keep all charges away from water and bathrooms. After salt water - rinse in fresh water, call common sense for help; diving 100 meters with the iPhone X is not worth it. The TrueDepth camera and the entire filling of the smartphone work instantly, face recognition is good in a variety of conditions: it is cloudy in Moscow now, so there were no problems during the day at dusk. Over time, the system learns and recognizes you with glasses, a hat, a beard and mustache, no beard or mustache, in a variety of guises.

Basically, the focus is on the eyes, nose and mouth, so if the device is on the side, the lock will not open; but it is worth looking at the smartphone and the lock opens. Then you need to move the screen up and, voila, we get to the desktop - this does not happen automatically yet. Let me remind you that TouchID accelerated the work with the device; with FaceID, an additional action is needed. Some programs, while using the smartphone, ask for FaceID, a menu appears and you need to look at the smartphone. The range of work is long, I managed to unlock the device from somewhere from forty centimeters and in conditions with poor lighting. There are no problems in the dark and in the sun. I remember how the Samsung Galaxy S8 asked me in Dubai to open my eyes wide on the beach to unlock it. I opened them, opened them, opened them until the minister came running with a question - is everything all right with me and whether a doctor is needed. With the iPhone X, you don't need to open your eyes or wrinkle your faces - you can do this in Messages to make animated emoticons, but in real life everything is unlocked instantly.

Of course, here a lot of all sorts of thoughts about safety appear, because at night someone can unlock the device and do something. You can't add a second person - as it was with fingerprints: my wife and I can easily enter each other's smartphones and tablets, because you never know what. Masks for protection during sleep are already being sold on Ali, it is not recommended to use FaceID for children under 13 years old and those who have twins or very similar relatives. There are many reservations, but, in fact, the level of protection is even better than using TouchID. It is quite possible that Apple will add a fingerprint sensor built into the display for the following devices - so that "security" reaches its climax. But you can live with FaceID - now, on the screen, notifications, closed from prying eyes, I look right on the screen and messages are revealed. By the way, you can now wake up the iPhone X by touching the display, without double taps and other things.

A little practice at different times and in different situations. In the car, if the device is "glued" to the holder, you wake up the smartphone with your finger, face recognition is in progress, in the dark and from a long distance it happens instantly - amazing.
