Why can't I update my iPhone 5s. Check available space

Applications for modern mobile devices can be called "live" without exaggeration. Developers rarely limit themselves to one version of the program, constantly updating and improving something in it. This is especially true for network applications, which can simply stop working with new protocols. So in many cases, updating software is an urgent need, and not just a whim.

Apple smartphone users often have such a problem that applications stop updating. But without many programs, the user feels disadvantaged, and sometimes he simply does not see the point in using an "apple" gadget. How to identify the sources of this problem and try to eliminate most of them - our article will tell.

First, let's look at the main reasons. In most situations, preventing the update of the software installed on the iPhone.

Often this or that application is not updated for the following reasons:

  • Not enough battery power. It is necessary that before the start of the process it be at the level of 50% and above. Moreover, the charger must be connected only to the outlet, and not to a PC or laptop.
  • Apple resource overload. This is especially likely at the time of the release of new devices or presentations, when then those who want to download new programs increase several times, and the servers simply cannot withstand the load. In such a situation, the user can only wait. I am glad that usually it is short-lived - from half an hour to a day.
  • Low connection speed. The reason is banal, but, nevertheless, it is she who often becomes the cause of the problem, and the user does not suspect what is wrong, looking for serious violations.
  • Problems with the iTunes utility. This may be the presence of an outdated version of the program on the PC, a violation of the interaction of the computer with the utility due to damage to the USB cable or the corresponding port, etc.
  • Damage to other components - for example, Lighting-cord.
  • Malfunctions in the PC or laptop.
  • Problem connecting to a specific WiFi hotspot.

In the latter case, the application may not be updated due to the fact that the fingerprint scanner does not work. If for some reason the operation of the fingerprint sensor is disrupted, downloading and installing a new firmware or program is only possible using the iTunes utility.

We update applications on iPhone: ways to solve problems

Above, general points were discussed regarding violations during the process of updating applications on an iPhone. Next, we will consider situations in more detail using specific examples, as well as ways to resolve problems:

  • Poor Wi-Fi connection (slow or intermittent). Here, the owner of the iPhone can be recommended to go online in another way - for example, via 3G. But if the connection through mobile channels did not help, you should try again to connect via Wi-Fi, but at the same time deleting the old settings and creating new ones. If this does not fix the situation, you can try switching the router to hybrid mode. How this is done is usually described in detail in the instructions for the device.
  • Unable to login. With a similar problem, you should log out of the "account" in iTunes Store or App Store, and then log in again.
  • Not the newest version of the iTunes utility on a PC or laptop. Here the algorithm of user actions is simple. You need to go to the Apple resource and download, and then install the "fresh" version of this program.
  • Outdated software. If not only the aforementioned utility, but also some other programs on the PC are outdated, you can try to update them. This is also done using iTunes.
  • When the owner of the installed software is not the owner of an iPhone. It happens that, when acquiring not a new gadget, but a thing "from hand", the new owner cannot fully use and update the applications previously installed on it (i.e. those that the previous owner of the device purchased or downloaded for free). Alas, for normal work with applications, it is necessary that they be purchased under your "account". In such a situation, you will need to download or buy the necessary software again.
  • The discrepancy between the data on the location of the owner of the iPhone and the place where the card was issued. It is not uncommon for Apple to block a user due to such inconsistencies. The country of issue of the bank card and the geographic location of the owner of the phone must match. As a rule, this problem is solved by one of the methods described above.

Now let's get acquainted with the advice of professionals and find out what service center specialists advise their customers when they complain about the impossibility of updating the software installed on apple phones. These recommendations are short and to the point, and in most cases they help.

So, the masters advise:

  • If you can’t update the application, you should first try to reboot the gadget.
  • If the above action does not resolve the issue, try connecting to the network again.
  • Do a system restore.

If none of the above methods helped, it makes sense to seek the advice of specialists. But, as a rule, the last step eliminates all malfunctions. How to do it - instructions below.

iPhone system restore algorithm

To this end, the user must take the following actions:

  • Turn off the gadget and do not turn it on.
  • Download and install on the PC or laptop that will be used, the iTunes utility (if it was not there).
  • Connect your phone via USB cable to PC.
  • Information will pop up on the screen that the utility has detected a device to be restored. You need to confirm the operation and wait for its completion. It is important to make a backup first, so that later you can return all the data and settings that were on the phone before.

In this case, you first need to plug the cord into the PC port, and only after that - connect it to a mobile device. At the same time, you need to hold down the Home button on the iPhone. As soon as a message pops up on the screen stating that you can connect to iTunes, the button must be released.

After all these procedures, you need to try to update some application. If everything went smoothly, the software update processes on the iPhone will improve and will continue to occur without problems.

How to solve the problem with logging into the App Store

Rarely, but still it happens that the user simply cannot enter the application store. In such a situation, there is simply no talk of updates - you first need to fix the current problem.

Below are all currently available ways to solve this problem:

  • If the login becomes unavailable after updating the device. To fix this, you need to enter the settings, then go to the iTunes and App Store utilities section and check the box there. Such a simple action will help to correct the situation.
  • If the login succeeds, but the applications do not download, you need to go to the updates section and just wait a bit. Sometimes the system just hangs, but after a few minutes everything is getting better. Therefore, sometimes it is better to be patient and wait a bit than to take any drastic steps.
  • If none of the 2 methods described above helped. You need to do a flashing of the gadget. Then you need to restore all the information from the backup. You need to take care of creating a backup copy, which can be done both through iTunes and iCloud, in advance. When performing this step, you should first try to do a system restore, but if this action does not help, resort to updating.
  • Sign out of your account and then sign back in. Then you should wait a little, and then enter the application again and try to download some software.

If none of the methods helped, you just need to wait. After a few hours, the problem can be solved by itself, because its origins do not always lie in device or software malfunctions. Perhaps they lie in the malfunctions of the shops, etc.

And finally, another way to determine the source of the problem. Try to check if other iPhone owners have similar errors. Moreover, they must have the same telecom operator as yours, and have a similar version of the "OS". Maybe this temporary problem affects everyone at the moment, not just you.

With the release of the long-awaited update, it's time to prepare your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch for the transition to a new OS. Unless, of course, you plan to update the device. In this article, we'll show you how to check your smartphone or tablet for iOS 10 compatibility, "clean" the device, make a backup, and perform other necessary procedures.

1. Check compatibility

iOS 10 is designed for models with the latest generation of processors. Attempts to make the operating system compatible with older modifications of the iPhone and iPad would inevitably cause problems. As a result, they would have to create a separate version of the OS for them, effectively served by outdated hardware.

List of supported iOS 10 devices along with the release of the first beta in June. "Ten" will be able to install all owners of gadgets that are currently deployed iOS 9 with the exception of the iPhone 4s, iPad mini, iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPod touch 5G.

List of devices supported by iOS 10:

  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPhone 5
  • iPad Pro 12.9
  • iPad Pro 9.7
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad 4
  • iPod touch 6G

There are no outdated models in the list of compatible devices. According to Apple, owners of smartphones and tablets released in 2011 and 2012, respectively, will not be able to count on updating to iOS 10. At the same time, some of the operating system's capabilities will not be available on Apple smartphones and tablets of previous generations. But in general, they will remain part of the updated ecosystem.

2. Have you installed the iOS 10 beta? Update to iOS 10 GM or downgrade to iOS 9.3.5

Some iPhone and iPad users have already updated their devices to iOS 10 beta, but not everyone knows that any test firmware has an expiration date, after which the device will turn into a “brick”. As a result, you will have to upgrade to the official version, or roll back the device to iOS 9. Therefore, do not delay until the last one and upgrade right now to iOS 10 GM, or downgrade.

It should be understood that you will not be able to install the GM assembly "over the air". Formally, this firmware is intended for developers and is installed on the gadget via iTunes. The public version of iOS 10 will be available for installation directly from a mobile device.

3. Clean your device

Before installing iOS 10, it makes sense to part with unused games and applications. This measure is not mandatory, but it never hurts to get rid of unnecessary software before installing a major update. You don't lose anything by deleting software from your device - you can restore any app from the App Store.

In general, preparing for the update is a great opportunity to clean up the device. Unnecessary applications were mentioned above, but you can also delete temporary files, cache, web surfing history, cookies, logs and other garbage. More details about this can be found in the articles:

Using the proposed software, you can free up on your iPhone and iPad from 500 MB to 5 GB in a couple of minutes.

4. Install updates from the App Store

On devices with a large number of third-party applications, it is recommended to install the latest updates from the App Store. During the iOS 10 testing phase, many developers released new versions of the software. By installing the latest versions of the software, you can be sure that applications are compatible with iOS 10. You can download updates in the App Store –> Update section.

5. Check available space

The iOS 10 file is about 2 GB in size, and the device must have at least 2.5 GB of free memory to install the OS. This does not mean that a dozen takes up more space - the extra space is needed to unpack the files and complete the update process. You can find out the amount of available memory on your iPhone and iPad in General –> About this device.

By the way, iOS 10 weighs much less than previous versions. For example, a 128 GB iPhone with iOS 9 installed offers users only 113 GB of free memory, after installing iOS 10 this figure will increase to 122 GB. On a 16 GB iPhone with iOS 9, 11.9 GB is available, and after installing iOS 10, 12.85 GB.

6. Back up your data

Many users use their iOS device as their main gadget for taking photos and videos. And hardly anyone wants to lose important moments of their lives captured on digital images by unsuccessfully updating the firmware. To keep your photos or videos safe, it is recommended that you make a backup copy. You can do this through both iTunes and iCloud. This will increase your chances of successfully recovering information in case of loss.

iTunes: Connect your mobile device to your computer, launch iTunes, select it in the top bar, and click Back Up.

iCloud: On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings –> iCloud –> Backup –> iCloud Backup.

Always create backups before updating software on your devices. This goes for all major updates like iOS 10.

7. Jailbreak?

MacDigger keeps an eye on jailbreak trends in the Apple world, so our first duty is to warn users of jailbroken iPhones and iPads that there are currently no exploits for jailbreaking iOS 10. When you upgrade to a new OS, you will lose your current jailbreak. At the same time, it is not possible to return to iOS 9.3.3.

Rumored to be hackers from Pangu. However, this information should still be classified as rumors. It is worth waiting for official statements, and then update the iPhone and iPad to the new OS. The best option right now is to stay on iOS 9.3.3 until it becomes clear whether a jailbreak for iOS 10 will come out or not. Everything should be resolved within a few days after the release of the update.

8. Wait for the release

After completing the above steps, you will have to wait until September 13th and install the OS. To install iOS 10 on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, it will be enough to go to the operating system settings and in the menu General –> Software update to confirm the firmware download.

Everyone knows the generally accepted concept that updating the system is necessary, useful and correct.

We will not refute it, indeed, newer operating system software firmware is useful. Most often, developers fix errors in them or, as many say, “remove glitches”, however, as always, there is a “BUT”. If you decide to update ios on iPad, then you will need to know some important features. But more on that later. First, let's take a look at the update process itself.

There are two options: updating directly through the iPad itself and through a computer using iTunes.

In both cases, the first thing to do before proceeding with the update is to create a backup copy of the data. It's best to do this in both iTunes and iCloud. Don't worry, it's often just an extra precaution, but it's best to take advantage of it.

The update itself weighs quite a lot, so it’s better to connect your gadget to the mains (it’s bad if the battery “sits down” somewhere in the middle of the process) and connect to the Internet via WiFi.

Go to the Software Update Tool menu. Consistently it looks like this: Setting then General and Software Update. Check if there are updates. If there is a red icon above the Setting, then there are updates. But if we want to update our software to the seventh version (ios 7 has already been released a long time ago), then, of course, it is not necessary to check.

Now it remains to download the found update and install it by clicking Download and install. When the download is complete, the button will change to Install Now.

Updating ios via iTunes isn't too different

  1. We connect the iPad with a cable to the computer. iTunes will launch automatically
  2. In the Devices menu, select your tablet
  3. Go to Summary and click Check for Update. When iTunes finds an update, it will offer to make it. It will be enough to click download and update
  4. The installation process will proceed automatically. The main thing now is not to interrupt

That's all about the installation. And now, that unpleasant "BUT".

Regrettably, but not all iPhones, and iPads in general, can be upgraded to the seventh version (not to mention the eighth). Here are the models that will not be able to correctly accept the new OS firmware:

iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s; fifth generation iPod touch; iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini.
If you are the owner of such a device, then it is better not to try to install iOS 7.

It is better to use the official version of the incremental update iOS 7.1. If you still decide to upgrade on these models, then expect that not all the declared features will be available to you, simply, some will not be at all.

For example, Instagram filters will only be active on the fifth generation iPhone, while AirDrop (file sharing via Wi-Fi) on the iPhone 4 and 4S as well as on the second and third generation iPad will not be available at all.

Do not forget that there is a full and beta version of iOS7. If you install an incomplete version, remember that it is available only for a certain time, after which, if nothing is done, your device may turn into a “brick”. Don't delay and either roll back to the sixth version or upgrade to the full version.

Last night, after two months of preliminary testing, Apple to the owners of all compatible models of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch new firmware. Even after the release of the very first beta version of iOS 10.3, it became known that, along with updating to iOS 10.3 firmware, Apple is moving all its mobile devices from HFS + to APFS (Apple File System), which was announced last June at WWDC 2017.

As Apple notes, with the transition to a new generation file system, mobile device performance will increase significantly, and files or directories will be copied almost instantly. Although migrating to APFS should not affect the data and information stored on your device, we still strongly recommend that you create a backup before you update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to iOS 10.3.

How to properly update your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to iOS 10.3

Once again, when updating iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to iOS 10.3, it is very important to back up your data. Depending on your preference, you can do this using iTunes or iCloud.

Backup with iTunes

1. Simply connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer and launch iTunes if it doesn't automatically launch when it detects a connected device.

2. Select your device. If you want to create an encrypted backup, check the box next to Encrypt Backup. Now click the "Back Up Now" button to start backing up your device data to computer.

Backup with iCloud

1. Make sure your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is connected to Wi-Fi and at least 50% charged before going to Settings -> iCloud -> Backup.

2. Activate "iCloud Backup" and then click "Back Up Now" to start backing up your device data to iCloud.

Once your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch has been successfully backed up, you can update your device to iOS 10.3.

Installing iOS 10.3 using iTunes

If you'd rather stick with the traditional methods of installing new firmware, you'll probably use iTunes to install iOS 10.3. If so, just follow these steps.

1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. To do this, launch iTunes and select "Updates" from the top menu. If an update is available, install it.

2. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer and iTunes should automatically recognize it. Now select your device in the top left corner.

3. After that, a pop-up window will appear to notify you that an update is available for your device. If it doesn't appear, just select "Updates" again.

4. Once this window appears, click the Download and Update button to begin the iOS 10.3 installation process.

Installing iOS 10.3 "over the air"

If for some reason you can't or don't want to use iTunes, there is another way to update to the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system.

1. Make sure your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is connected to a power source. This is not required, but this way you can ensure that your device does not run out of power during the process of installing iOS 10.3 on it. Also make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi.

2. Go to the menu "Settings" -> "General" -> "Software Update". Most likely, an update to iOS 10.3 will already be available there. However, depending on the speed of your Wi-Fi, it may take some time for the device to connect to Apple's servers and receive confirmation that an update is available.

3. Now click on "Download and Install" and follow the instructions on the screen. If the update has not yet been downloaded to the device, it will connect to Apple servers and download all the necessary files for installation. This may take some time, so please be patient.

4. After downloading the update, click the Install button. While the update is being installed, you can go about your business.

Many owners of the first generation "apple" tablet are interested in which version of the operating system they can upgrade to. It should be understood that this device is already 6 years old and initially it worked on the basis of iOS 3.2. However, officially on iPad 1 you can install 4th and even 5th iOS. But starting from the 6th version, things are somewhat more complicated, since the iPad 1 processor no longer meets its system requirements. Nevertheless, users want to use the "goodies" of newer operating systems on their well-deserved device and often ask how to update the iPad 1 to iOS 7, not to mention the "six".

What is it that Apple developers have added to iOS 7 that everyone wants so badly? First of all, this is a fundamentally new minimalist design, and a couple of hundred functions. Among the latter, improved multitasking and the emergence of a control center that opens with a swipe from the bottom up and allows you to turn on / off the airplane mode, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, adjust the volume, adjust the brightness and perform many other actions are especially distinguished.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to install a full-fledged version of iOS 7 on the iPad 1, but there is a workaround hacker way to get its design and functional gadgets. Don't worry, you can start using almost all of them too.

Firmware WhiteD00r 7

In addition to the “native” operating system updates that are regularly supplied by Apple for their devices, there are customized iOS 7 firmware for the iPad 1. Such updates are developed by hacker enthusiasts and, as a rule, come out later than the next official version.

The developers take the standard version of the OS for the outdated gadget as a basis and supplement it with everything possible from the design and functionality of the newer iOS, while maintaining the stability of the device. In particular, for the iPad 1, they took the penultimate original iOS 4 firmware, “dressed” it in the manner of the “seven” and called it WhiteD00r 7. But after installing custom firmware on your iPad, version 4 of iOS will actually remain.

WhiteD00r 7 firmware is very similar to the original iOS 7 and includes almost all of its innovations: sound updates, wallpapers, icon design, multitasking, control center, Siri assistant, push notifications and many others. At the same time, despite such a large-scale additional functionality, the performance of the device does not suffer at all.

Preparing iPad 1

To get started, make sure that your iPad has a clean 4th version of the system from Apple. If you have a firmware with a jailbreak, then first flash the device to the standard iOS 4 using the instructions. If you have any doubts about the originality of your OS or difficulties with updating, it is better not to experiment with custom firmware.

If there are no problems, then in the next step of preparing iPad 1 for iOS 7 firmware, create a backup using iCloud.

Then find the Redsn0w utility on the Internet and install it on your personal computer. Also download the archive of the WhiteD00r 7 firmware itself and extract the files from it. And at the end of the preparation, check if you have iTunes, and if not, install the latest version of the program.

Firmware installation

Now that you have prepared everything you need, proceed with the installation:

  • Connect your tablet to your computer.
  • Then launch iTunes or wait for the program to launch on its own.
  • Wait for iTunes to detect your device as shown in the screenshot below.
  • Click on the device icon in the upper left corner and make sure that the iPad is running the original iOS 4.
  • In the current window, click on the “Restore iPad” button (“Restore”), but before that, hold down the “Shift” key if you are a Windows OS user, or “Alt” if Mac OS (OS X).
  • In the explorer window that opens, specify the path to the file with the .ipsw extension, which you saved earlier in the folder with the WhiteD00r 7 firmware, and click "Open".
  • Wait approximately 15 minutes for the recovery process to complete.

After successfully installing the firmware, the device will reboot, and you will see a nice iOS 7 design on its screen.

As it turned out, flashing the iPad 1 is not so difficult, but now you can safely start enjoying all the benefits of a custom system, while doing the things you are used to. Continue to enjoy great sound, movies and books on your familiar gadget in a new style from iOS 7.

Hello, friends! Nikolai Kostin is in touch, and in this article we will walk you through step by step how to update iOS on ipad. iOS is the operating system for Apple devices and is used on both iPhones and iPads. Periodically, updates are released that you are encouraged to install. Read on to find out how.

To be honest, whether or not to update iOS is a question that leaves many in doubt as to whether it's worth it at all. Personally, the decision to update iOS was not immediately given to me. Some may call me conservative, but I was worried that after the update, some applications might work crookedly for me or stop launching altogether. The extreme point was that when browsing for new applications in the Appstore, every second one had iOS requirements from version 6.0 and higher, and I was sitting with my version 5.1.1 and could not install anything. After that, I realized that it was time to do a system update.

In general, I’ll say right away that after the update I was satisfied, the ipad began to work much faster, but of course there are jambs, the main thing, in my opinion, is the terrible work of the Appstore - it began to load mega-long, it was crooked, the application was not install, but it was only in the first few days after the iOS update, and then everything began to work for me more or less, and I could safely work in the Appstore.

And now let's take a step-by-step look at how to update iOS on iPad:

1. The screen of your ipad looks like this now:

2. Click the Settings icon, see the following on the screen, go to the Software Update tab (circled in red in the screenshot):

3. Press the button Download and install in the center of the screen. IMPORTANT! To update iOS, you need at least 3.5 gigabytes of free disk space and a good Internet connection so that update files can download quickly

4. We get a message that it is better to put the ipad on charge, set it, press OK.

5. The download process begins, now we are waiting patiently ...

6. We also expect to check for updates

7. At the end of checking for updates, your ipad will reboot and the following will appear on the screen:

Move the arrow to unlock the screen

8. We see a message stating that the update has been successfully completed and there are a few steps left to complete the installation, press the button Proceed

9. We see a proposal to configure the geolocation service, select the checkbox to enable or disable it, press the blue Next button at the top of the screen.

11. Hurray! We get a message that the ipad is configured and ready to go. We press the button Start using iPad. Congratulations, you can now continue using your ipad as before.

Thank you very much for your attention! I hope that this article on how to update iOS on iPad was useful for you. If you have any questions or suggestions - write them in the comments below, we will figure it out together.

There are many options for updating the iPad firmware. This is a device that runs on a well-known operating system called iOS, which is often completed by Apple employees. The firmware can be updated in many ways, if you do not know how to update the old iOS, then read all the methods and choose the appropriate one:

1) Using tablet, without computer

2) Using PC with Internet access

Update tablet firmware, without computer

We will update the old firmware of our iPad without a PC, more precisely from the tablet itself. If you have iPad tablet, then you can undoubtedly use this manual for iTunes updates for Ipad without programs. All kinds of new attachments are on Apple servers, in order to use this method, we need access to the Internet. Access must be constant and fast, hence the use of a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Before updating the iPad, you need to check that the tablet is officially unlocked and without any unlock methods (for example, Gevey SIM for iPad) works with SIM of different operators. Attention - if the iPad is locked to a special operator, then you cannot update in this way.

There are cases when, when updating, all data from the tablet is deleted, therefore, if there is information in the gadget that cannot be lost, then before updating the old firmware, you need to create a backup copy of the device. To save the files we need, you can read the instructions for beginners.

We don't expect valuable information on our iPad, so we don't need an iPad backup. We decided Update iPad before the firmware of the recently released iOS 6.1.3, in order to fix old bugs, the fact is that the iPad does not save the previously used Wi-Fi, so you need to enter a secret password every time you connect, probably after the firmware the Confirmation of connections will be lost.

Before starting to update, make sure that the battery of your device is charged by more than 50%, otherwise the update will “refuse” to install, and so put it on charge and connect the gadget to Wi-Fi.

We go to the settings General> Software Update, if there is Internet on the ipad, then it will check for a new firmware and if it is, this window will appear where you need to click on Download and install.

Using a computer.
Connect the ipad to the computer and launch itunes, usually if the computer has Internet, the presence of a new firmware is checked automatically. If there is a newer firmware, then you will be prompted to update the ipad, for this you just need to click on Download and update. from the computer until the end of the update.

Sometimes it happens that when itunes starts, a window is not shown that an update is available, in this case you need to click on the ipad inscription in the upper right corner. You will see such a window in it, you just need to click on Update.

Everyone knows the generally accepted concept that updating the system is necessary, useful and correct.

Apple users can be sure that their gadgets will always receive the highest possible updates for hardware. That is, if the iPad "pulls" the new iOS, then it will receive it. Unlike competitors who provide their operating system to manufacturers of end tablets, that is, they create an extra link between themselves and the user, the Cupertino company performs all the steps itself. This allows her to interact directly with the buyer, which results in the relevance and timeliness of device support. If closer to the topic of the article, then this means for the end user that he is in the forefront of receiving new versions of system applications and the operating system without having to look for them himself. This concern for users is what sets Apple apart from other IT giants.

The system needs to be updated regularly to ensure security.

Like the vast majority of other activities affecting the system, this will be done through iTunes. If you left the iPad settings in the recommended state, that is, "Default", then you already have automatic check for updates turned on. Otherwise, you'll have to take care of it yourself. But if you have already made such a choice, then you probably know what you are doing. So we leave it up to you.

So, in order to keep your iPad up to date, iOS on it needs to be updated regularly. As you no doubt understand, this is not only about interface changes, but also about fixing security bugs and incorrect operation of system components. The need to update the iPad is not born out of nothing. As soon as the system becomes popular, the likelihood that attackers will pay attention to it increases significantly. Their calculation is simple: if people use it, then they store their personal data there. And what is made by people, people can break. Absolutely secure systems do not exist, this is an illusion. Therefore, there is a constant arms race between software developers and reverse engineers. The task of an iPad user is simple - to regularly update iOS on their device in order to fix all critical security bugs.

But this is not the only reason. The human factor may well work with the programmers of Apple itself, and they may make a mistake due to which the tablet will not work properly. If you find yourself in a situation where a system application crashes unexpectedly with an error or, in general, reboots your tablet, then you understand what we are talking about. So, it’s worth updating iOS on the iPad just because most of these critical errors are eliminated in this way. Sometimes even the “brakes” of the system ended up being removed by Apple by updating the operating system.

Update process with iTunes

As we said, it will require iTunes on a pre-selected trusted computer. To update, for example, iPad 1 to iOS 7, you just need to connect it to a PC. iTunes will see the connected tablet and display it in its left tab. Select the "Overview" item, and in it click the "Update" button. Your tablet will be updated to the latest version of the operating system, which iTunes will automatically download from Apple servers. In this case, he will perform all the required operations himself. So this is probably the easiest way to upgrade. However, another method is also not more difficult.

Update without iTunes

More and more often people generally refuse personal computers at home. Mobile devices are pushing them out of our apartments, because there are more than enough of them for everyday tasks. In such a situation, Apple did not support the dependence of its devices on personal computers, and new iPad models, like all other device lines, can be updated without iTunes and, accordingly, without connecting to a computer at all. To do this, you just need to have a sufficient battery level. If there is an outlet nearby, then it makes sense to connect the charger, because updating iOS on the iPad is quite an energy-consuming process, as you will see. In addition, the new firmware can really "weigh" a lot. Therefore, if possible, it is worth using a Wi-Fi networkwhen you see an update message on the iPad screen. You can also check their availability yourself in the settings. After clicking the "Download and Install" button, the tablet will do almost everything by itself. You don’t even have to worry about whether there is enough space to install the update, because if necessary, the tablet itself will upload the installed applications to the cloud, and then restore them to their original place. Of course, he will give you a notification with this question, and if you answer yes, then everything will happen. Sometimes it happens that it’s convenient for you to download an update, but it’s not very good to stop the tablet. This is a normal situation, so iOS after downloading the package will ask whether to start the process right now. You can select the "Later" option, and there are "Tonight" and "Ask Later" options. If you chose the first, then do not forget to connect the charger before going to bed. If it is convenient for you right now, then select the appropriate item, and all that remains is to wait for the end of the process. Your iPad is now fully updated and ready to use.

Many fans of Apple technology sooner or later encounter a problem when the iPhone is not updated and, as a result, it is not possible to install the current firmware version. And the situation is the same in iCloud and iTunes. It just appears a standard failure and error message and nothing more. In this case, the download may have already been made. Let's try to figure out what exactly is the cause of such a malfunction and how it can be eliminated.

Many users are interested in what will happen if you do not update the device at all. What is all this for, if the iPhone works fine anyway. In fact, with each update, Apple developers make devices more perfect, add more changes, new features and remove errors made in previous versions.

So the phone can serve you much longer. In addition, many applications in the AppStore system are simply not able to work with the old firmware.

Main causes of failure

Usually, when the iPhone 5s (or other models) refuses to automatically update via Wi-Fi or other communication channels. Users are starting to wonder why I can't update my phone to the latest version.

There are several simple solutions:

  • Just restart your iPhone. Turn it off and then on again. This helps to solve most of the problems in the OS.
  • If this does not give the expected result, then try reconnecting the Internet connection.
  • If this does not help, then you can restore the entire system.

The most common reasons for this problem include:

  • Update error.
  • Incompatibility.
  • Lack of space.
  • No access to the server.
  • Incomplete updates.

Update download error

Your device seems to see a new version of the firmware and has already started downloading. However, then an inscription appears - "Update download error".

Why it happens? There may be several options here:

  1. Not enough memory. In this case, free up some space on your phone and try updating again.
  2. Unstable network connection. Make sure your iPhone is connected to the internet. If everything is fine, then it may be worth connecting to another wi-fi network.
  3. Another reason is the various technical jobs at Apple. It's enough just to wait a while.

If you do not want to wait, then you can try downloading the firmware from third-party resources. But in this case, there is a high probability of catching viruses. So this is the last resort.

If you still decide to install updates via a PC, then first download them from the official site. After that, proceed to the installation:

  • Launch iTunes.
  • Go to the updated gadget section.
  • Press Shift, click on "Update".
  • In the explorer, select the required file with the .ipw extension.

Compatibility check

The next reason may be incompatibility. That is, your device may not support the version of software you are installing. For example, ios 11 and its modifications can only be installed on the following devices:

  1. iPhone 5S and all following;
  2. iPod touch 6;
  3. And an iPad mini 2.

If your device is suitable for the installed version, then we perform the following steps.
In the main menu we find the settings section. We need basic settings, at the very end of which there will be a “Profile” subsection. Now we need to delete everything that is there, click on "Delete profile". Now we reboot. The entire procedure should take no more than 20 minutes.

Find your password

If a password is set on your phone and tablet for security purposes, then you should make sure that you remember it. It is possible that a password will be required to successfully complete the procedure, especially with the latest firmware versions. If you forgot it, then you need to contact the service center for restoration.

Keep your apple id handy

When there is enough space to download and other possible solutions to the problem do not help. We are trying to restore access to the apple id. This ensures that you will be able to use all Apple services such as the App Store, iCloud and others.

If you have forgotten it, then you must:

  1. Go to your account page. Click on the "Forgot Password" button.
  2. On the next page, you need to click the same.
  3. Enter your details and your email address. If the entered address does not match, then you can try with another mail.

Need more space to install the update

The error is sometimes caused by lack of space. If there is not enough space to install or download an update, IOS will automatically try to free up space. However, by default, the system will delete only the information of those utilities that will soon be loaded automatically. All information in this case will not be deleted or moved. Can be deleted using iTunes.

If you can’t connect to iTunes, then try to free up as much space as possible for installation. Delete unwanted photos and videos from your phone.

How else can I update ios

Often the situations can be quite banal.

For example, the battery charge, which should be more than 50%. If it is less, then you need to try to connect the gadget to the network.

It is also possible that the problem is related to a non-working Touch ID fingerprint scanner. If for some reason it does not work, then it will be possible to update only using iTunes.

We install the new version of iTunes, connect the original iPhone cable, and agree with the messages of the system.

Conclusion

If you have already tried all the above methods and none of them helped you, then there is only one thing left. You need to seek help from professionals. Go to the service center, they will fix the breakdown.
