But the "Help" folder contains text notes that will help beginners quickly get used to the game. Tips are divided into three categories: "Driving Techniques", "Items", which introduces you to weapons and techniques of use, and "Combat", which introduces you to the combat modes of the game. Such training, albeit textual, was sorely lacking in the original G8.
We go to the main menu item "One player", select "Grand Prix" and continue to be surprised. All the difficulties in 50, 100 and 150 cubes available at the start of Mario Kart 8 appear in front of you, as well as the later added variants of the "Mirror" with reflective tracks and the lethal difficulty of "200 cubes", where you have to remember the presence of the brake button. But that's not all! You can choose any character as a racer already in the first race! All of them are initially unlocked. Plus, the list is nicely expanded with DLC characters and all-new Deluxe Edition heroes: Boo King, Inklings, Skeleton Koopa, and Bowser Jr! 12 cups are immediately available (8 from the original and 4 from the add-ons), each of which has 4 unique tracks. Now only new parts for karts will have to be unlocked: bases, wheels and parachutes / fenders.
Three additional options appeared when configuring the map. With their help, you can turn on autogas or unlock the gyroscope control. The funny thing is that autogas comes in handy when playing with the gyroscope, giving you space to focus on cornering and shooting. The third option is management assistance. An extremely annoying thing for professionals and just good players, and extremely useful for novice riders. After switching on, you will practically not be allowed to fly off the track and drive to the side of the road, they will constantly keep within the limits of the track.
Combat mode has been completely overhauled in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. There are now as many as five types of battles in it! I will keep silent about the standard "Sharoboy", it has remained the same, I will pay attention to others. "Bob-omb-battle" is similar to "Sharoboy" only in the boxes with weapons there are now only bob-ombas, which you can carry with you 10 pieces at once. The mode came out not so much fun, it lacks dynamism, and using only bob-ombs is somewhat boring.
In the "Time is money" mode, you need to collect as many coins as possible on the track in the allotted time. All of them are indicated on the mini-map. Coins can not only be picked up, but also stolen from the opponent by punching him with a weapon or hitting in the mushroom acceleration mode. The mode is not the most boring and even starts to be stressful when the coins are collected and the time has come to steal them from rivals.
The modes "Face Race" and "Pursuit with Piranhas" seemed much more powerful to me. The first is similar to capturing the flag. The racer needs to pick up the fairy of the sun and carry her as long as possible. The real hunt begins for the player with the fairy. Everyone around is throwing bananas, bombs and shells around him in the hope of knocking the sun out of the player and taking it for themselves. The trick is that the player with the fairy moves slower than the others, so he won't be able to go far.
“The Piranha Chase” was my favorite. If in other modes you can compete either every man for himself or by teams, then only team races are allowed here. And the point is in the specifics of the regime. One team is armed with a piranha flower and acts as a kind of police. They need to catch the "bandits", members of another team. To do this, the police must catch up with the violators and swallow them with the help of flowers. The caught bandits are trapped in a cage, where they await their fate. First, I tried to connect the joy-cones to the holder and play like this. Inconvenient. It is almost painful to enter drifts. Then I took one controller, attached the strap and tried to play like this. Not bad, but still the proximity of the analogue with the gas button is annoying, and it is not very convenient to enter the drifts again. The formula “Like in Zelda” turned out to be ideal for me: Each joy-con is in one hand without being connected to the holder. It became instantly pleasant and easy to play.
Finally, about online. Little has changed there, but one incredible appeared useful opportunity... While in the lobby, awaiting the next arrival, you can move to the character selection menu to change it and customize your maps. Let me remind you that on Wii U for such joy it was necessary to leave the lobby, and then continue the race with already new people. As for the connection, there are no complaints about it, although strange things happened. Either the console could not find active sessions, then it refused to search at all, then it threw it right out of the race. There were even strange moments when almost all members of the current lobby left, leaving only two or three riders. I note that life is now in full swing both in the racing mode and in the combat mode, where all the above-described competition modes are available.
