WiFi Authentication Error - Effective Solutions. Ways to solve Wi-Fi (Internet) connection problems

Often users have a problem with connecting to the Internet when the network is active, but the signal is not heard. The device is trying to connect to the access point, but the message "Saved WPA security" appears, and as a result, the connection is not available.

Sometimes it happens that the device connects to the network, but in fact the distribution of the Internet does not work

What to do with it? In most cases, problems do not concern a phone or tablet, Android devices, but the router itself. There are several ways to change its settings to get it working properly and making a good connection with your equipment.

Sometimes, to solve a connection problem, when “WPA protection is saved” is knocked out, it is enough to reboot the Wi-Fi point and reconnect to it. It is likely that the router simply has a problem that is easily fixed by restarting it.

Another possible reason associated with the incorrect operation of the equipment may be due to the fact that it has outdated firmware. Download the latest firmware for the router from the manufacturer's website, upload the file in the settings menu.

The settings open like this: enter the IP address of the router in the address bar of any browser, enter the value "Admin" instead of the username and password, if you have not changed them.

Update your hardware after signing in. Even if it's not about the firmware, once again it's always useful to install a new version, because by releasing it, the manufacturer fixes all previous problems.

Regional Settings

Network access may be unavailable for a banal reason - the region where you live is incorrectly set in the equipment.

To find out, go to the router settings, select the Wireless section, the Wireless Settings line (for TP-Link models) and check which region is indicated in the line with the same name. If the data is incorrect, correct it.

If you have a router of another brand, look for this data in the section where, in addition to the region, the device name is set, as well as connection parameters.

Password issues

Key Validation

In some cases, the line "WPA security saved" appears if you entered the wrong password when connecting. To reset it, click on the network icon, select "Delete", then reconnect and enter the correct combination.

Changing the password and encryption type

It is likely that the device with which you connect to Wi-Fi does not understand the password or its type of encryption. These parameters are changed in the hardware settings.

To do this on TP-Link brand models, go to the Wireless menu, select the Wireless Security tab. Here you will change the password - try to create a combination consisting only of numbers. Below, select the encryption method - it is best to select WPA / WPA2 - Personal (Recommended), set the type to AES.

Do not forget to save the changes, reboot and reconnect to Wi-Fi from your gadget. Please note that when setting a new password and changing settings, you need to change the data on other devices that have previously connected to this wireless connection.

Changing the operating mode

The connection is often not available due to the fact that the phone, tablet or other equipment does not support the router's operating mode. There are three such modes, all of them are called in Latin letters b, g, n. If the router is set to work in n mode, and the gadget does not support it, then you will not be able to connect them.

Therefore, conduct an experiment: change the way the device works, for which you must perform the following steps:

  • Go to the hardware settings, use the Wireless section mentioned earlier, the Wireless Settings tab.
  • Stop at the line called Mode.
  • Now you have to choose another mode - use the option with all three letters - b, g, n, so that you can connect to Wi-Fi from all devices operating in at least one of these modes.

A fairly common occurrence. At the same time, users cannot connect a tablet or smartphone to Wi-Fi, despite using the standard router settings and correctly entered password, which is very difficult and interferes with the normal operation of the mobile gadget. It is not difficult to solve such a problem, having certain knowledge. It is enough to change some settings so that the mobile device can connect to the wireless network. Often, users are faced with a situation where available connections are not displayed on a newly purchased tablet or a connection cannot be established. At the same time, Internet access is necessary to set up a mobile gadget, install applications, updates, without which the device will not perform its functions. We recommend that you carefully change all the parameters of the wireless connection to the network so as not to reset the correctly configured settings of the router. Any thoughtless action may lead to the need to flash the router.

Solving the authentication problem when connecting a tablet or smartphone to a Wi-Fi router

Authentication when connecting to a wireless connection is the definition of a device and its parameters. It is necessary for security purposes - only in this way strangers will not be able to use your Internet connection. On the other hand, authentication "determines" how compatible the settings that are used for a wireless connection are.

Security is ensured by the user entering the correct password. At the same time, all router settings must be set in such a way that the tablet or smartphone cannot accept the connection, which will allow its owner to use the Internet.

Authentication errors occur in three cases. The first involves an erroneous password entry. Since it does not require any settings to be changed, we recommend that you make sure that you have entered the combination correctly. If the key is correct, but the connection has not become active, then the reason lies in the incorrect data encryption. It is often sufficient to simply change the type of data encryption so that authentication errors do not occur.

The third reason is the incorrect operation of the router itself. This problem often occurs on budget models, since the quality of the device, as you know, depends on the price. In addition, the signals of a large number of budget routers that operate on standard settings can “overlap”. This primarily causes signal interruption not during authentication, but during the use of the connection. Often incorrect operation of the router can occur due to the load on one device, technical malfunctions of the provider, a large amount of files currently being downloaded at high speed. Sometimes power outages can cause authentication issues and an inability to connect to the Internet.

Wi-Fi authentication error is detected very simply. Users of mobile devices based on Android will see the message "Saved, WPA / WPA2 security" or "Authentication failed". It should be noted that most often this problem occurs on smartphones, and not on tablets. In any case, the task of each user is to configure the router in such a way that such errors do not occur. They cause great inconvenience, especially at times when you urgently need to use the Internet.

What should the user do before making changes to the parameters? First of all, we recommend that you make sure that you are using the correct network name and entering the correct password. If everything is correct, but the connection is inactive, try rebooting the router by turning it off and then turning it back on. Many devices have a reset button. We do not recommend using Reset as this will result in the need to completely configure the router.

Change the subfrequency of the connection

There are a total of 14 sub-frequency connections. Moreover, the fourteenth subfrequency is used for military purposes. In the Russian Federation, Ukraine is allowed to use 13 sub-frequencies for wide use. Often, routers from the same manufacturer choose a specific channel by default. We recommend that you check this setting and set a new value for it.

To do this, open a browser and enter the numbers "192.168.0.1". After that press Enter. Next, you will need to enter your username and password to access the router's web client. Such information is contained in the instructions for the device. After that, you will be able to see the router settings. You should go to the Wireless tab. On the tab, you will be able to see the Channel parameter. For convenient use of the wireless network on smartphones and tablets, you need to set the Auto setting. It will allow you to automatically select a channel depending on the load on a particular channel. Do not forget to reboot the router after changing the parameter.

It should be noted that such a change will help solve the authentication problem if mobile devices find many connections to the wireless network. This situation is common in offices and apartment buildings.

The password and network name are important when connecting to Wi-Fi on tablets and smartphones. The network name must not contain the following characters: \, |, /, $, &, :, %. We also discourage the use of hyphens and dashes. As for the password, it is desirable that it consists entirely of numbers. Alphabetic characters are allowed in combinations, but many users who have encountered a device authentication problem recommend using numeric combinations.

To change the network name and password, you will need to access the router's web client again. After that, go to the Wireless tab again, find the SSID1 parameter and change it. The password is also easy to change. You must first activate the Wireless tab, then go to Wireless Security. Password PSK - this is the key that must be entered when connecting to the wireless Internet. After making the change, you must reboot the router.

Encryption type

We recommend doing this setting at the same time as changing the connection name and password. The WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK connection is the best and most reliable today. This setting should be set in the Wireless Security section.

After that, you need to check the Version parameter. It is desirable that the Auto version of the security standard be installed. This may solve the problem on older devices that simply do not know how to work with the WPA2-PSK standard. Sometimes on newer devices, the firmware version of the operating system does not support WPA2-PSK. The encryption type allows the device to use both WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK2 at the same time. It is supported by all modern mobile gadgets and is more advanced than WPA2-PSK.

Tablet firmware and root access

Often an authentication error when connecting to Wi-Fi can occur if there are problems with the firmware version of the tablet or smartphone. This is especially true for those whose users have made changes to the . In some cases, users cannot connect to the wireless network if the operating system version is not authentic.

Any firmware contains drivers that are responsible for the wireless module. An inauthentic version of the operating system, accordingly, may use inappropriate drivers that prevent normal connection. In such cases, we recommend to correct the authentication error. Choose only high-quality firmware. Pre-read the reviews of people who have already installed the software on their gadget. But this solution is only suitable for those who are convinced that there are no other options to fix the problem.

Authentication errors when connecting a tablet or smartphone to Wi-Fi are not uncommon. In this case, the solution to the problem consists in changing the settings of the router, checking the correctness of the password entered, or changing the firmware. In any case, if such situations arise, the easiest option is to reboot the router and double-check the combination entered when connecting. Before changing the type of data encryption and other parameters, you need to make sure that this will not cause other malfunctions of the router.

In this article, we will look at some of the most common examples of authentication errors when devices based on the Android operating system work with WiFi networks. At first glance, there can be nothing complicated in this matter, because the interface of phones and tablets based on this OS is exceptionally friendly even to the most inexperienced users, but it can also surprise.

In addition, such a mistake is a fairly common occurrence, and in order not to get into a mess, first you should familiarize yourself with the information below and, perhaps, the connection problem will be solved easily and imperceptibly. First you need to understand what is authentication and WiFi technology in general. Understanding this will give you the opportunity to solve everyday issues related to this protocol without anyone's help and extra costs.

Authentication. What is it and why?

Often, when authenticating, instead of the coveted “Connected”, an inscription appears on the display of your phone like “Saved, WPA / WPA2 security”, or “Authentication problem”.

What is she?

This is a special security technology that prevents uninvited users from entering your personal or work network who would use your Internet channel and waste traffic. You will have to pay for it. And the large range of the WiFi access point makes it possible to connect to it not only to the people for whom it was created, but also to attackers. Therefore, to prevent such an unauthorized connection, high-quality data encryption and authentication technology with a low probability of hacking and password guessing is required. That is why to connect to the network most often you need to enter a password. You can select the method of data encryption during authentication that suits your requirements in the settings of the router or access point to which your device is connected. The most common authentication method today is WPA-PSK/WPA2.

There are two main options here:

  • In the first case, when connecting to the network, all subscribers enter the same key, in the other, each user is given a personal access key, consisting mainly of numbers and letters of the Latin alphabet.
  • The second type of encryption is mainly used in companies with a high level of network security, where a certain number of users connect and secure authentication is really important.

In case we have connection problems, before taking any action, it is recommended to use a proven method that in more than half of the cases solves all problems, including an authentication error - restart the router.

Another of the most effective ways to solve an authentication error, since it is not uncommon for it to be caused by a corrupted router firmware in your home, is to update its firmware to the latest version. It is strongly recommended to update it from the official website of the manufacturer. Also, it is desirable to have a saved copy of the file with the router configuration, and if you do not have it, then do not be too lazy to make it on your computer so that there is no need to select its settings again. In addition, it is better to make sure that your network is not hidden, that is, just check in the settings if the “Hidden SSID” checkbox is checked and if the SSID wireless network name is written in Latin.

Authentication failed. Why does it occur?

In fact, there are only two main problems due to which your phone may not connect to a WiFi network. But do not forget that in addition to the errors listed below, such problems can also be caused by a failure of the router itself or due to conflicts in the network settings. This is a separate topic for discussion.

  1. The selected type of encryption does not match the one used.
  2. Key entry error

Most of the problems with connecting to wireless networks are precisely due to errors when entering the key. In such cases, it is recommended to double-check the password entered in the connection settings of your phone, and if this does not help, go to the router settings using a computer, replacing the access key directly on it. It is worth remembering that the key can only consist of Latin letters. If this does not help, one of the methods below should definitely help.

Troubleshooting Authentication

Not every user can imagine how setting up a WiFi router using a computer looks like and how to fix any connection problems, not to mention the reasons for their appearance. Therefore, another way to solve problems is described below, but already on the side of the router and using a computer connected to it, and not a phone.

  1. To check the settings, you need to go to the router settings. To do this, open any browser and enter the ip-address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. It already depends on the model of the router you are using. Then enter your username and password in the window that appears. If you have not changed them, you can find the necessary login information on the router itself, or in the instructions.
  2. Next, go to the settings for the wireless network mode and instead of “b / g / n”, which is most often the default, change to “b / g”, then saving all the changes made.
  3. If all the previous manipulations did not give a special result, then it makes sense to change the type of encryption when checking to WPA / WPA2, if a different method was chosen, or vice versa - to simplify to WEP, which, although outdated, sometimes saves the situation if other methods turn out to be ineffective. After that, try again to connect to the network from your phone and re-enter your key to pass the verification.

Knowing these nuances will help you deal with an error that occurs on many devices, regardless of class and cost, when working with various wireless networks, as well as understand the very principle of setting up wireless routers and access points.

Many happy tablet owners actively use Wi-Fi for everyday tasks. But from time to time, when trying to connect, a Wi-Fi authentication error occurs. The reasons why this problem occurs are usually due to inattention when entering data, a malfunction of the wireless equipment, or incorrect operation of the tablet. Let's consider solutions.

This feature allows you to exclude unwanted connections to the wireless network.

What is authentication

To begin with, you need to understand that authentication is the control of a security key and how the transmitted information is encoded. This is important so that no outsider is able to connect to the access point in your home. Security options include a strong password and the right encryption standard.

If you have an authentication error, the reasons may be the following:

  • Wrong network access password.
  • Your tablet and router use different types of encryption.
  • Inappropriate communication channels.

The most common error occurs when the password is entered incorrectly. Enter it as carefully as possible. You can check and change the security key in the router settings, where you can also change the channel and encryption. It is possible to change network access parameters without much effort even for a non-specialist.

Changing the security password

We have already written in detail. In short, you need:

  1. Enter the IP address, username and password of the router in the browser. You can view them on the back or bottom of the device or in the user manual. If you can't find it, type Win+R - cmd - ipconfig. The line "Main gateway" displays the address of the router. The default login and password is admin/admin.
  2. Go to the Wi-Fi security tab. In the "Encryption Key" or "Security Password" line, view the existing or enter a new password.
  3. On your Samsung or other Android tablet, turn on Wi-Fi, go to Settings - Wireless networks - Wi-Fi - hold down the name of the connection with your finger - Change this network. Check the "Show password" checkbox, enter it again, carefully checking with the one entered in the router.

Changing the Encryption Standard

If the error persists even after changing the key, then:

  1. In the router interface, go to "Security Settings", select "WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK" authentication type and "AES" encryption.
  2. In the tablet in the Wi-Fi settings, hold down the connection name - Delete network. Then reconnect.

Change the Wi-Fi channel

The wireless network uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. So that the signals of different equipment do not overlap, the router is able to work on 11 channels, automatically choosing the most suitable one. But sometimes failures occur, the signal is getting better, which can cause a Wi-Fi authentication error. To change the channel manually:

  1. Enter the router interface - Wireless network settings.
  2. Check that the region is correctly defined - Russia.
  3. In the "Channel" tab, select one of the 11. Test several times until the tablet connects successfully.

You can check the load on each channel using the Free Wi-Fi Scanner for Windows or WiFi Analyzer for Android utilities. Once launched, they will scan all available networks in the room and display the load on each channel. Choose the one that is not loaded at all or is busy at a minimum.

If nothing helps

While the Wi-Fi Authentication error shouldn't happen again once you've made these settings, there are times when you'll need to take a more drastic approach. You can also try:

  • Reboot router. Unplug the power cord, wait half a minute or a minute, turn it back on.
