Optimal settings for windows 10 on a laptop. Customizing visual effects on Windows

Windows 10 performance, computer and laptop performance - how to maximize and speed up your operating system. Basic moments and all the subtleties of Windows 10 tincture.

How to improve performance
You can increase the performance of Windows 10 by disabling some background services, setting up startup, cleaning, and a host of other manipulations. The first thing to look out for when raising Windows 10 performance to peak performance is competency. If you are weak in using your computer and its files, you risk undermining its functionality and process security.
A list of the safest and most effective techniques for operating system performance is offered:

  • 1 - Configuring startup - go to the task manager by pressing the ctrl + alt + delite keys, go to the "startup" tab and disable applications that run for a long time when the OS is turned on;
  • 2 - Configuring Windows 10 for maximum performance using antivirus software;
  • 3 - Removing unnecessary files - it is recommended for beginners to carry out using cleaners and other software (up to + 25% to productivity);
  • 4- Disabling PFS protection - this will significantly improve the speed of work, but also reduce the level of system security. For an office PC, you can simply turn on protection only when visiting unprotected sites;
  • 5 - Removing background processes - done through the task manager in the "processes" tab.
We recommend that for a broad understanding of the topic, watch this video.

Performance evaluation
When a number of the above procedures are completed, it is time to evaluate the performance of Windows 10. To do this, you need to download any application for evaluating the OS from a protected resource. For example, WSAT. After 5 - 10 minutes of checking the processor, video card and other modules by the program, the user will be able to see the assessment of his system.
Often, such programs offer a measurement scale in the range from 1 to 10. For completeness of the report, most applications offer both a general and a separate assessment of modules and the PC as a whole.

Preventive Instruction
To maintain optimal performance of the operating system, it is recommended to install only verified files from official sources, timely cleaning and updates. Guided by the recommendations in this article, you are guaranteed to get a fresh and responsive system, but such procedures should be performed regularly.
Any modern computer, if handled correctly, can last more than 10 years without serious technical deviations. Be prudent and believe me, this will save you time and money more than once!

Each release from the Windows corporation will captivate the user's attention from time to time. For more than 20 years, system platforms have been carefully polished by the developer and never cease to delight the world with their corporate identity and ease of use.
Windows 10
With the latest updates, this operating system has brought twice the performance and functionality indicators. In addition, many changes have been noticed in the solution of standard system tasks and design. The interaction between the user and applications has also undergone significant changes, since now the user can independently configure the notifications of any file.
For those who like to do several things at once, this version offers a progressive voice assistant with a record processing speed of commands among mobile and computer systems. Also, one cannot fail to note the intelligent adaptability of the system for the device used: for users of tablet, hybrid and standard PCs, different design and interface structures are offered.
The biggest advantage of this software is the ability to upgrade to 10 free for all users of Windows 7 and 8 through the official website. Thanks to this, the user will receive a full package of developer services for as long as 365 days.

Performance
Windows 10 performance is the most important aspect of working with a PC. Actually, each release is made with the goal of providing a higher performance indicator.
The performance of a computer with Windows 10 is reflected in the following indicators:
- the limiting threshold of the number of tasks for the simultaneous solution has been increased;
- the prioritization system has been improved;
- operational data exchange with hardware and self-optimization of loads;
- most of the insignificant services and applications are launched by users at their own discretion;
- increased speed of work with the cloud and Internet data;
- the functionality of the desktop and the start menu has been increased, which in turn made it possible to solve the necessary tasks without running through the tabs and windows, but to solve them in one place.
Also, as in other versions of Windows, the user can always analyze the performance of the OS and make his own changes to it.

Squeezing all the juices out of your PC is a normal healthy thought for any sober-minded user who does not suffer from fanaticism, but knows what can be done better. You can ask the advice of "sofa experts" who unanimously recommend a Core i7 6950, an SSD based on 3D Nand chips, a card of a level not lower than the GeForce Titan X, and even more trifles. But few people think of fine-tuning their own system and trivial optimization of Windows 10.

What needs to be done? It is essential to delve into your own system, namely:

  • do defragmentation;
  • optimize startup;
  • disable third-party services and indexing;
  • remove unnecessary visual effects;
  • configure the drivers and clean up the place in the Temp folder;
  • check the system for viruses and other garbage;
  • look into the case.

Laughing laughter, and dust, debris and dried thermal paste on the CPU will greatly slow down the performance + complicate the ventilation inside the PC or laptop case. No software tweak will save you if the hardware burns out. Take the trouble every 3-4 months using a vacuum cleaner configured to blow out air and a soft brush (no synthetics - fraught with static and component failure) to clean the inside of the machine.

Be sure to lock the coolers with a screwdriver or finger, otherwise the bearings may not withstand the high rpm caused by the powerful air flow, unless you have fluid dynamics or a magnetic cushion. In any case, it is better to play it safe. But back to our rams.

Defragmenting the hard drive

Not everyone has modern SSDs with static high-speed memory. Many have no idea what it is and use good old HDDs. Winchesters have a mechanical part in the form of a spindle on which the disk is mounted. All files are written to the latter, and reading is performed with special heads.

The bottom line is the following: data is written sequentially (if the disk is clean) in special clusters, then it is also read. But if you delete one or several components (programs, films, pictures, music), while freeing up selective clusters, then the subsequent recorded information will be saved fragmentarily (if it found free space, it saved its part there).

Imagine the following diagram: 11111, 222, 3333333, 44, 555555, 66666,777 - recorded programs and the space they occupy. After removing "222", "44", and "66666", several gaps appear. Next, we write a new element - 88888888888. Will it come after "777"? No. He will try to fit himself into the gaps of previously removed elements. You will get something like: 11111.888 (3 parts), 3333333, 88 (2 parts), 555555, 88888 (other parts), 777. As you can see, access to the file "888 ..." is difficult because it lies in different places.

Defragmentation makes the picture look like this: 11111, 3333333, 555555, 77, 8888888888 ... The speed of circulation is higher - the speed of response has accelerated.

To complete the process, go to "This computer", right-click on the disk (C, D, etc.), click on properties.

We are looking for the "Service" tab.

Now the work of the computer will become somewhat faster and more responsive.

Removing unnecessary from startup

This point applies to those who like to install everything without removing the "extra" checkboxes during the installation process. Do not be surprised, where did you get Yandex and Mail.ru elements from all cracks. What is startup in essence? These are services that start when Windows starts (Skype, uTorrent, antiviruses). This "eats up" the RAM and processor resources. As a result, maximum performance is not guaranteed, since a bunch of unnecessary applications are running in the background, drawing off some of the power.

We press the good old shortcut Ctrl + Alt + Del. In Win10, the functionality has been significantly expanded and redesigned, so we are not surprised and we are looking for the "Startup" tab.

You can see the "launch impact" next to each object. If it is medium or high, and you have no idea why you need it, but do not use the program, disable it. Select it by clicking the right mouse button and click "disable".

Disable unnecessary services and indexing

For games, speed is important, and Windows 10 support services "gobble up" a good chunk of processor and RAM performance. This point is very slippery and we do not recommend going into administration if you are not sure of yourself.

To enter the section, click Start and write in the search bar “ services.msc". Press Enter and get into this menu (the "Services" tab).

Disabling unnecessary services is a delicate process, but we recommend disabling Windows Search and Update centre... They heavily load both HDD and Internet traffic.

We make the system visually easier

Win 10 is far from the “seven” in terms of beauty, but some of the effects also take away precious resources, dragging them out for themselves. The operation will be more in demand among the owners of old PCs, although the new models will also slightly stir up.

First, go to "This computer" and click on "system properties."

We are interested in "additional parameters ...".

Here we open the "Advanced" tab, look for the "Performance" section and click on the parameters.

It is necessary to achieve acceleration, so we put the marker opposite the best performance. Yes, the system will lose some beauty, but it will gain in performance, which is important for weak PCs.

After that, the Win + I keyboard shortcut brings up another menu. We are looking for "Special Features".

Go to the "other parameters" submenu and turn off the system animation. We leave the rest of the items.

We update and add the necessary drivers

Windows 10 is good in that it installs all the basic drivers on its own, thereby activating the video card, network card (including Wi-Fi), mouse and keyboard, and more. The downside is that the system "picks up" standard controllers to provide at least some work, without worrying about the originality of the software.

Complete with a laptop or key PC hardware (motherboard, video card, sound card) must be disks with drivers from the manufacturer. Installing them significantly contributes to hardware acceleration, and the machine will work at full capacity.

If there is no disk, or there is no drive, go to the website of the laptop manufacturer, look for the model in the "drivers and utilities" section, select the OS and download the original components.

After that, we recommend cleaning the temporary system Temp folder (located on the "C" drive, or on the one where the system is installed). In order not to delete anything manually, the developer has provided a special button. Go to "This computer", right-click on the "C" drive, select properties.

We are interested in the only button - "Disk Cleanup". Click it and clear the temporary content. Do not touch the rest of the elements (downloaded files, cleaning updates).

Checking for viruses

The lion's share of software manipulations has been completed. It remains only to use the antivirus. Opinions differ here: some praise Kaspersky, while others praise NOD 32, Avast and other products. The point is in the verification itself. Don't count on the built-in Windows Defender - it will only help you with obvious threats, nothing more.

Additionally, we advise you to "hedge" products like Dr. Web CureIt and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The latter program works in a different mode: it looks for components "responsible" for the pop-up of advertising banners in browsers, opening tabs like "casino volcano" and not only. It also cleans the file with hosts, if they were previously hosted by this or that Trojan.

Getting rid of dust in the case

The last tip will work not only for Windows 10, but for all other operating systems as well, since it is about cleaning the case. It is easier with a PC, since the cases are easy to disassemble and clean with a brush, vacuum cleaner and compressed air. Some users turn to the service station for help, because there is a compressor there. It's fast and convenient.

Laptops are a problem because of their design. Not everyone dares to disassemble a laptop in order to clean out the insides. Yes, Youtube is full of video instructions, but it is preferable to give the car to the service, where it will be brought to mind, replaced with thermal paste and made into a divine form. In the future, do not place the device on a dusty surface and use a stand with a cooler.

Cleaning should be done at least once every six months, if you do not want to get a huge dusty lump that acts like a fur coat for components. They will overheat and fail, and replacement is much more expensive than prevention.

Outcomes

Advice, although it smells of platitude, but nothing supernatural is required from users. You only need to dig deeper into the settings once, and then follow what you install, so that nothing superfluous gets into the startup and does not change the performance. And be extremely careful not to let Yandex enter the system.

Quite recently, in connection with the sudden death of my laptop, I had to get my very weak netbook, which I had bought a long time ago, from the reserve. I installed clean Windows 10 on it, and then used my own standard recommendations for acceleration and optimization of the work of the "ten", but, unfortunately, the brake remained a brake.

First, I put it away and started thinking about the options for buying a new laptop. But then, clearly realizing all the precariousness of his own financial situation at the moment, he decided to try to find and test all possible ways to begin with. overclock a weak computer as well as any obsolete laptop or netbook with Windows 10 on board.

While still testing these methods, I came up with the idea to systematize the accumulated information and write an article about all this. This is what I do, since the overclocking results of my netbook are fine with me. Of course, it did not become super-fast, but nevertheless, for its parameters, it became noticeably stirring.

I want to warn you right away that in my recommendations for speeding up weak computers, as in other cases, I do not pretend to be the ultimate truth - I just talk about my own experience in optimizing and speeding up a obviously frail netbook. I will add that all the overclocking methods I have selected are quite suitable not only for Windows 10, but also for the "seven" with the "eight".

I also consider it important to say that we will achieve acceleration solely by disabling everything that can be disabled in our operating system, without affecting the hardware settings and without trying to force it to work at its limit. Of course, many people overclock their processors, video cards, and hard drives to the limit, but this method inevitably leads to the premature death of a computer. I think neither me nor you need it. So let's get started.

Common ways to overclock a Windows 10 computer

Before using specific and sometimes rather troublesome ways to speed up your weak computer, laptop or netbook, you should try using standard solutions. I described them in the article “ How to make Windows 10 boot and run faster". If they didn't help, then personally I would prefer to try reinstall the top ten cleanly... If this does not help, then only then it is better to use the additional methods listed below, which consist in disabling everything unnecessary: programs, services, etc.

One of the first ways to overclock a weak computer at least a little is to turn off visual effects (these are translucent windows, gradually expanding folders, even a shadow under the mouse pointer, and more). Most of them can be turned off without too much damage to their appearance. To turn off graphic effects that consume unnecessary computer resources, you need to:

  1. Open Explorer and click with the RIGHT mouse button on the "This computer" icon in the left column.
  2. We select the item "Properties". (instead of 0 and 1 points, you can simply press Win + Pause / Break)
  3. In the left column of the window that opens, run " Additional system parameters».
  4. Open the tab “ Additionally».
  5. In the item "Performance", press the button " Parameters».
  6. We choose " Provide the best performance"(Although you can also choose" special effects "- more on that below).
  7. Push OK.

As I promised, I will dwell on point 5 in more detail. If you select the parameter "Provide the best performance" in it, then absolutely all visual effects are turned off. In my opinion, most of them are not particularly needed (even on a powerful computer), but there are some, without which the appearance of the system becomes very unsightly and even inconvenient for the eye. That is why, personally, I first select "performance" (so that all the checkmarks disappear), and then the "Special effects" parameter, where you can put a checkmark on the necessary items yourself. I leave the following options enabled:

  • Displaying thumbnails instead of icons(for example, in folders with photos, not just file icons are shown, but thumbnails of images - for me personally this is very important, since quite often you have to search for a specific photo among many. resources, but I'm wasting a lot of time without it).
  • Smoothing the jaggedness of screen fonts(We definitely leave this point, otherwise the letters look as if their edges were processed with the coarsest rasp, and they did not touch with a file or sandpaper).

You may need to keep some other visual effects. This is a very individual matter. Experiment.

Disable built-in search (disk indexing) and other services in Windows 10

By default, in Windows 10, as in the "seven" with the "eight", it is enabled indexing service the contents of the hard disk. It allows you to use the search bar in the Start menu or folders and find the files you need with it. This search actually has a lot of complaints from the days of Windows 7 to the present. Firstly, it works quite slowly, and secondly, it often does not find files and folders that are definitely on the computer, well, and most importantly, thirdly, it rather significantly loads both the memory and the processor. In addition, all programs, folders and files can be easily found manually. Yes, of course, it is a little more convenient to do it through search, but we have a weak computer and we want to speed it up? We'll have to sacrifice this function (and not only it alone) for the sake of optimizing the work of our slow animal.

To disable built-in search in Windows 10, you need to:

  1. Open Control Panel(by clicking on the menu Start With the RIGHT mouse button, it can be found in the list that opens).
  2. Next, we need to make sure that the filtering of items in the Control Panel occurs by category.
  3. We select the item " system and safety».

  1. In the next window, we look almost to the very bottom and click on the penultimate green item " Administration».
  2. A new window opens, in which we need to select the item " Services».

Finding services can be easier, in a new way. To do this, click the RIGHT mouse button on the Start menu and select the ninth item "Computer Management", then click in the left column "Services and Applications" - "Services".

In order to better see the names of services, it is better to expand this new window to full screen, and the columns “ Name" and " Launch type»Expand and put next to each other (we transfer, clinging to the name of the columns).

Immediately I want to warn you that accidental disabling of some services can take the computer out of the working state, and you will have to reinstall Windows 10... Be careful!

Now we find the service " Windows Search" (Search). Its description says: "Indexing Content, Caching Properties and Search Results for Files, Email, and Other Content".

  1. Click on Windows Search with the RIGHT mouse button.
  2. In the context menu that appears, click on the item " Properties».

Instead of 5 and 6 points, you can simply double-click on the name of the service!

  1. A new small window appears. In it, we first make sure that we are in the tab “ Are common».
  2. Then in the paragraph " Launch type"Choose" Disabled"(Meaning that the service will be disabled).
  3. Push OK to save your changes.

So, we turned off the search service (in other words, indexing the disk). For speeding up slow Windows 10 computers, this can be critical. But since we are already in Services and, of course, want to overclock our laptop or netbook as much as possible, we can turn off some other services that we do not need. After all, all of them, though a little bit, consume valuable RAM. It is worth remembering that you can disable any services only by carefully studying the question of why one or another of them is needed and what its disabling can lead to.

All the names of services that can hypothetically be disabled, I list in a separate article "To Which services can be disabled to speed up Windows 10 ". At first I wanted to post them here, but then I decided to put them in a special material - otherwise this page will be just huge.

User Account Control is a component of the operating system that is responsible for requesting actions that require administrator rights. Simply put, this is a pop-up window on a darkened screen that appears when you try to run any program that requires administrator rights. This feature has existed in Windows since Vista and is a good barrier against various dangers, but if our goal is to speed up a weak Windows 10 computer as much as possible, then this component can be disabled. This will not damage the functionality of the system and will contribute to some overclocking of the computer, laptop or netbook, but will make their use less secure. If you are ready to put up with this, feel free to turn off User Account Control.

Now let's figure out how to disable User Account Control in Windows 10. As always, I will describe the whole process step by step, with pictures.

  1. First of all, we launch Control Panel (by clicking the RIGHT mouse button on the Start menu, select the corresponding item - 6 from the bottom).
  2. Then, in the Control Panel, select the green item “ User accounts».

  1. Now we click on “ User accounts».

  1. At the next stage, select the bottom link “ Change User Account Control Settings».

  1. Now we need move the slider to the lowest position.
  2. And confirm the changes made by clicking OK.

After that, the computer will ask for confirmation to save the settings. We agree and enjoy the absence of annoying notifications.

Optimize boot to speed up Windows 10 startup

Changing the settings in the tool will help speed up the boot of a weak computer and slightly overclock it. system configuration". To open it you need:

  1. Press keys Win + R... The "Run" console appears for entering commands.
  2. We need to enter 8 letters into it: msconfig and press Enter or OK.

  1. The System Configuration tool opens. We pass in it to the second tab "".
  2. Click on " Extra options...»
  3. Another window appears. In it, we put a tick next to the item " Number of processors»
  4. We choose maximum number... I have it 2, you can have more.
  5. Check the box next to “ Maximum memory».
  6. Push OK.
  7. Now we return to the remaining open "System Configuration" window. In it, we can also check the box “ No GUI». But keep in mind that all animation when booting Windows 10 will turn off, that is, during system startup until the login screen appears, you will see a black screen. Don't be intimidated by this if you decide to use this option. It also speeds up system startup a bit.
  8. Push OK so that all the changes made will be applied in our OS.

Disable unused Windows 10 features

All the programs you do not need are in startup, I hope you have already disabled it. If not, then click Ctrl + Alt + Del, choose Task Manager, then a tab. After that, clicking on each program you are not using with the RIGHT mouse button, select “ Disable».

I also hope that you have already deleted all unnecessary programs. If not, then Control Panel(how to start it, see above) - item Removing programs... Select unused ones and also delete them with the RIGHT mouse button.

However, in addition to third-party and, as a rule, rather small programs in volume, there are also larger components in Windows 10, some of which can be disabled in order to speed up weak computers, laptops and netbooks - these are Windows components... You need to be especially careful with them, because not every component can be disabled painlessly. It is better to first read what each of those planned to disconnect is intended for.

  1. To run the Windows Components tool, you must open again Control Panel(I remind you how: right-click on the Start menu and select "Control Panel").
  2. Click on the green item " Programs».
  3. Now we select “ Turn Windows features on or off". The Windows Components tool starts.

To disable any component we do not need in Windows 10 to speed up your weak computer, you need uncheck from the appropriate point and click OK... You can uncheck several checkboxes at once and then click OK. The changes take effect only after the computer is restarted.

It is rather difficult to unequivocally advise which components can be disabled and which ones are better left. Let's consider just a few.

  • Hyper-V- a component of virtualization. If you do not even know what it is, and do not use virtual machines, then definitely turn it off.
  • Internet Explorer 11 in theory, few people need it, but this component, in addition to the browser, contains the sometimes necessary components in other cases ( at least kill me, I don't remember what exactly what I needed stopped working for me somehow after turning off IE 11 - something completely uncritical, but I was very surprised that it turned out to be part of the Internet Explorer component). However, if necessary, you can turn it back on. Personally, for the sake of overclocking my computer, I turned off this component.
  • Windows Power Shell 2.0- a component intended primarily for advanced users: system administrators and programmers. Simply put, it is a more advanced command line. You can turn it off.
  • Work Folders client- synchronizes the contents of directories on a computer with a remote server. You can turn it off.
  • Component for working with multimedia- provides the built-in media player. If you don't need it, feel free to turn it off.
  • Remote Differential Compression API Support- speeds up remote file synchronization. In principle, the component is not critical and can also be turned off. Especially if cloud storage on your computer is not used.
  • SMB 1.0 / CIFS file sharing support- used to share printers and files on a local network. It is needed only if at least one of its computers in the local network uses an operating system other than Windows (Linux, MacOS) or Windows XP (and earlier versions). In general, we can safely turn it off.
  • Windows Activation Service- can be turned off.
  • XPS Service and XPS Viewer- turn off both services. They are designed for printing and viewing XPS documents (analogous to PDF).

I will also list the rest of the services that I have turned off by default... That is, I did not have to turn them off, but I have Windows 10 Pro and you never know if you have any of them turned on.

  • SNMP protocol- intended for administrators of corporate networks.
  • Telnet client is an outdated command line client.
  • IIS Web Engine injectable- only for specialists developing software.
  • TFTP client- to transfer data using the appropriate protocol. Regular users do not need it.
  • RAS Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK)- needed by system administrators in corporate networks.
  • RIP listener- about the same.
  • Simple TCPIP Services- command line tools. It is highly unlikely that they will be useful to you.
  • Microsoft Message Queuing Server (MSMQ)- an old service for working with unreliable networks. Need not.
  • Active Directory Services- provides easy access to catalogs. Useful for developers only.
  • Windows TIFF IFilter- helps to recognize text inside TIFF files, consumes a lot of RAM. We definitely keep it off.

Regarding both components NET Framework then it is usually recommended to leave them configured at the default. You can experiment if the computer remains very weak and you need to speed it up at least somehow.

That's all for now. That's all for now ways to optimize and speed up weak Windows 10 computers that I could find, try on my netbook and organize for you in this article. I will continue to monitor this topic and if I find any more useful additional information, I will definitely add it here.

The computer is good when new. Or when he is looked after and given due attention to his condition. At the same time, the maintenance of the software part of the computer in proper condition is even more important than the hardware health. Asking how to speed up your Windows 10 computer in time will give you confidence in your PC's performance. With proper optimization, it will become more comfortable and productive to work on it.

Ways to speed up the system

As we start thinking about how to speed up a Windows 10 laptop or desktop PC, we need to remember a few basic simple ways to make the system run faster. Among them:

  1. editing the list of programs in Startup;
  2. editing the Windows registry;
  3. optimization of visual effects;
  4. installation of special optimizer programs;
  5. checking the relevance of the installed system drivers;
  6. diagnostics of the state of the hard disk and its defragmentation;
  7. checking installed browser extensions;
  8. checking the Task Manager for malicious processes;
  9. malware;
  10. editing the start menu;
  11. surveillance of the Windows operating system.

Here are eleven basic points to get you started if you want to make Windows run as fast as possible.

What to do to speed up Windows

The easiest way to speed up performance, especially at startup, is to look at the list of programs that have autoplay set. Autostart means that the application will start automatically when the operating system starts, and this is the answer to the question of how to speed up the launch of Windows 10. It often happens that the desktop has already appeared, but work on the computer does not work - everything slows down and freezes ... The point is that there are too many programs on the startup list. Removing them will speed up your work:

The next series of measures in order to cause faster startup of Windows 10 is associated with editing the operating system registry. In order to edit the registry, you must:

By editing the settings for visual and sound effects, you can significantly free up resources for more important tasks, speeding up the system. Most of all, this applies to old computers in which RAM costs 4 or less gigabytes. They are sensitive to even small jumps in memory consumption - applications and sites are now "heavy". In order to enter the settings for audiovisual effects, you need to:

There are programs to speed up your Windows 10 computer, but they can install additional software on your computer, change the browser home page, and in general can be harmful. Especially not a very experienced user. Therefore, be extremely careful when you want to install something like this for yourself to speed up Windows 10!

Checking regularly for system updates is also a good guarantee that you will have the latest drivers and utilities installed on your computer. There is nothing wrong with that, that the computer will periodically download and install something from the network, so do not touch the default settings in the Update Center settings menu.

Defragmenting important hard disk partitions is the most effective measure that will increase the speed of Windows and will answer the question of how to speed up the hard disk in Windows 10. In order to defragment the hard disk, you need to:

All manipulations to speed up your computer will be in vain if you have a browser that consumes too many resources. Open the extensions menu in your browser settings and see if you need them all. Motley toolbars and other add-ons slow down the system a lot, because we are talking about common RAM for all parts of the computer! It's also a good idea to clear your browser cache and history - they certainly don't help speed things up.

Checking the Task Manager for malicious processes is no less important than how to speed up the Windows 10 hard drive. Being constantly online, you can accidentally download to your computer a malicious application that will create tasks in the Task Scheduler or make changes to the registry Windows. Therefore, to speed up Windows, periodically go there and see if a suspicious process has appeared there. Their lists are on the net.

Viruses themselves are a separate headache for any user. Therefore, keep your antivirus databases updated and do not go to unverified resources.
Many active tiles in the Start menu should also be removed to speed up Windows. Click the right mouse button and select Delete from the menu.
Let's see how to enable hardware acceleration on Windows 10 to optimize the overall system performance:

We choose there Change parameters and set the slider to the desired position, if the video adapter allows changes. If not, you need to update the drivers by downloading them on the manufacturer's official website ..

Note that in this way you can both enable and disable hardware acceleration in Windows 10. But this option may not be available to you if your video card does not support it. Thus, disabling hardware acceleration - also, oddly enough, can generally speed up the work of Windows, due to the peculiarities of its device.

And the last point. If you are reinstalling the system, uncheck the box where you agree to send your personal and confidential data to Microsoft. These processes will not further load the processor of your device.

Have a great day!

Windows 10 is the most advanced operating system for personal computers, but it's still not perfect. Much here has not been brought to automatism, and there is still room for improvement with your own hands. Among other things, the general impression of performance is greatly spoiled by Microsoft's policy, which imposes an impressive number of its own services of dubious necessity, eating up RAM in the background. However, optimizing Windows 10 is not such a difficult task, and you can significantly increase the speed of your computer in a fairly short time.

Speeding up your computer

When it comes to interacting with hardware, Windows 10 has no equal here: all optimization processes are implemented at the highest level and brought to automatism. The user only has to keep the hard drive in order.

Optimizing your hard drive

Everything written to the hard disk is split into many sequential chunks to reduce the amount of space it takes up. When accessing any of the files, the computer is forced to collect them together. The duration of this process significantly affects the system startup time and the delay before opening all applications. You can help Windows optimize this process by doing one of the following:

Defragment HDD

When information written to a hard disk is broken down into small chunks, they are all arranged according to their best position for sequential reading. But after several cycles of writing and deleting information, a well-ordered structure gradually becomes chaotic. The process of re-optimization of this structure is called defragmentation and is recommended for periodic execution at least once every six months.

To defragment your disk:

SSD optimization

SSDs are based on more advanced and completely different technology than their predecessors. The Windows 10 operating system has several features that can speed up interaction with these drives, but they are not always enabled by default. To do it manually, follow these steps:

  1. Go to "This PC", select the first volume you like, right-click on it and expand its properties.
    Select the first volume you like and expand its properties
  2. Disable defragmentation that is harmful to SSDs. To do this, go to the "Service" tab and open the optimization window.
    Go to the "Service" tab and open the optimization window
  3. Now click on Change Settings.
    Click "Change Settings"
  4. Uncheck the automatic optimization checkbox and confirm the changes.
    Uncheck automatic optimization and confirm changes
  5. Expand the "General" tab in the properties of the volume and check the box next to the indexing permission. Do the same for the rest of the volumes.
    Expand the General tab and check the indexing permission
  6. Right click on "This PC" and go to its properties.
    Right click on "This PC" and go to its properties
  7. On the left side of the window, open Device Manager.
    On the left side of the window, open "Device Manager"
  8. Expand "Disk Devices", right-click on your memory and go to its properties.
    Expand "Disk Devices", right-click on your memory and go to its properties
  9. Click the Policy tab, enable caching of entries, and confirm the changes.
    Open the Policy tab, enable caching of entries and confirm the changes

Optimizing RAM

The main difference between RAM and the main memory is the ability to quickly exchange information. However, in the event of a critical shortage, it is allowed to replace it with conventional storage media, which will work much slower, but will help deceive demanding programs and take on part of the load.

If you have a 32-bit operating system (x86), it makes no sense to make the total amount of RAM more than 4 GB.

Paging file

The paging file is a section of main memory that is used as main memory.

The paging file is only appropriate for Solid State Drives (SSD). In the case of HDD, the effect of the paging file becomes completely invisible.

Initially, its size is determined automatically, but forced expansion is possible:

  1. Open the "Start" menu and type "Control Panel" and then press Enter.
    Open the "Start" menu and type "Control Panel"

  2. Open the "System and Security" section
  3. Go to the "System" subsection.
    Go to "System"

  4. Open "Advanced system settings"
  5. In the "Advanced" tab, open the performance options.
    In the "Advanced" tab open the performance options
  6. Go to the new Advanced tab and click Edit.
    Go to the new Advanced tab and click Edit
  7. Uncheck automatic selection and select "Specify Size". Set the original size to be one and a half times the recommended size, and the maximum one - three times. Confirm the changes and restart your computer.
    Set the original size one and a half times the recommended size, and the maximum one - three

ReadyBoost

Readyboost is a utility that allows you to place a paging file on your flash drive, which should have a more acceptable transfer rate than an HDD. In case you have an SSD, it is better to place the paging file on the main memory of your computer.

Tuning Windows 10 for Maximum Performance

After optimizing the hardware of the computer to improve performance, it remains to disable all unnecessary things. The lion's share of computer resources for Windwos 10 falls precisely on the work of unnecessary processes and meaningless "decorations". Disabling them alone will significantly speed up your computer without harming the system.

Disable startup

When you turn on the computer, you cannot help but notice that at first it slows down, and you have to wait for the device to start working normally. It's not about booting Windows: when you are shown the desktop, the system is already fully up and running. The problem lies in the autorun of programs, the inclusion of which is prescribed to accompany each start of the system.

Disable auto-updates

Windows operating systems have never been famous for the meaningfulness of their updates, and with the arrival of the tenth version on the market, the situation became even more dubious.

The problem here is again in Microsoft's intrusive policy, as a result of which, instead of the desired patches and system improvements, users receive weekly updates of unnecessary services and patches for corporate capabilities. Everything would be fine, but downloading updates can start at the most inconvenient moment, making it impossible to use the Internet normally. And after the start of their partial application (some of the updates are installed before the reboot), the drop in performance even breaks all records.

To turn off auto-update, follow these steps:

  1. Go to gpedit.msc through the search.
    Enter the command in the search bar of the Start menu
  2. Go to "Computer Configuration" - "Administrative Templates" - "Windows Components" and click on "Windows Update".
    Follow the path "Computer Configuration" - "Administrative Templates" - "Windows Components" and click on "Windows Update"
  3. Open Configure Automatic Updates.
    Open "Configure Automatic Updates"
  4. Check the "Disable" item, confirm the changes and restart your computer.

Disable tracking

Many have heard about the tracking features of Windows 10, but few people attached importance to them, other than concern about the safety of personal data.

In fact, the main problem with tracking services is their load on RAM. And the most interesting thing is that the work of tracking is almost impossible to catch by the hand, since its load on RAM and the processor is very skillfully distributed to all other processes, as a result of which many users do not understand where a sudden drop in performance comes from out of the blue.

These actions will not disable Windows monitoring completely, but only minimize its impact on performance:

  1. Go to options.
    Go to options
  2. Open the "Privacy" section.
    Open the "Privacy" section
  3. In the General tab, turn off Ads ID and Start Tracking.
    Disable Ads ID and Start Tracking
  4. Go to the Speech, Inking, and Text Input tab and turn off Speech Services, if active.
    Disable speech services if active
  5. In the "Feedback and Diagnostics" tab, select the main method of collecting data, uncheck the only checkbox and disable feedback generation.
    Select the main method of collecting data, turn off the only checkbox and prevent the generation of reviews
  6. In the Background Applications tab, turn off the master switch.
    Turn off the main switch

Disable visual effects

Windows 10 has a pretty simple and nice looking style. But still, there is a certain list of subtle visual "embellishments" that can be turned off. This action will not greatly improve the performance of the computer, but the difference in the interface will not be noticeable either.

  1. Open the Start menu and type Control Panel. Hit Enter.
    Open "Control Panel" via "Start"
  2. Open the "System and Security" section.
    Open "System and Security"
  3. Go to the "System" section.
    Click on "System"
  4. Open Advanced System Settings.
    Click on "Advanced system settings"
  5. Click Options under Performance.
    Click "Options"
  6. In the "Visual Effects" tab, uncheck all the checkboxes except "Display thumbnails instead of icons" and "Smooth the jaggedness of screen fonts." Confirm the changes.

Cleaning your computer

As mentioned above, before starting any application, game and the system itself, the computer first reads the information necessary for this from the hard disk, alternately collecting fragmented fragments. And the more junk and garbage is on the computer, the more difficult the path it faces. If you want to make this process easier and speed up the launch of anything and everything, you need to periodically get rid of unnecessary junk, which is a fairly simple task.

Garbage disposal

In addition to the trivial cleaning of the desktop and removal of unused programs, it is worth getting rid of files that are really called "junk".

Windows 10 has a very specific place to collect junk and junk files - the Temp folder. This folder contains several really necessary files, but there are only a few of them, they are not unique and will be created anew on their own in a couple of seconds.

Everything that is in it can be deleted without any regrets and the slightest risk of harming the system:

  1. Open the start menu and go to options.
    Open the start menu and go to options
    Open temporary files
  2. Check all the boxes and click "Delete files".
    Check all the boxes and click "Delete files"
  3. Go back to the Storage tab and turn on Memory Sense to automate the process of deleting temporary files.
    Go back to the "Storage" tab and turn on memory sense

Registry cleaning

The Windows registry is a common hierarchical database that contains system settings and some applications. Due to various circumstances, the registry can be clogged with erroneous information, which not only slows down the computer, but can also have consequences in the form of fatal system errors. Fortunately, you won't have to clean anything on your own (it is very difficult even for experienced users), but it will be enough to use the specialized CCleaner program.

Programs to speed up the work of games

There are no special ways to optimize the system for games, this is just a fiction of inexperienced users. There is only general Windows optimization, which is described above, but with equal success, all of the above methods affect games as well. There are also no programs that can truly optimize the operating system in an automatic mode.

If this approach does not suit you, you can try using several specialized applications designed specifically for games. However, it should be borne in mind that the usefulness of all these applications is rather questionable and, most likely, you will simply load your RAM with an extra process.

The principle of their work is always the same, and all the benefits can be reduced to the following list:

  • auto-update of some drivers;
  • "Auto-fitting" of game settings to the "hardware" of the computer;
  • defragmentation of the folder with the installed game;
  • stopping some system services while the game is running.

The most reliable applications include the following:

  • Game Buster;
  • Game Accelerator;
  • Game Fire;
  • Game Gain.

If after installing these applications you do not notice the difference, then you can always uninstall them.

The Windows 10 operating system does not differ much in terms of "gluttony" from its predecessors, but this impression is greatly blurred by the accompanying services, enabled by default settings and hidden tracking functions. Moreover, self-optimization of this system and its deep study are capable of delivering higher performance than previous versions. And in order for all this to become possible, you just need to do a few simple procedures described above and do not forget to carry out timely cleaning with defragmentation of the hard disk.
