Determining the type of motherboard. How to determine the model of the motherboard (in different ways)

Greetings! Friends, sometimes under some circumstances it is necessary find out the model of the motherboard installed in the computer. This is necessary, for example, before reinstalling the operating system in order to download drivers for the chipset in advance. Or, when choosing a new video card, you need to make sure that it is compatible with the motherboard, the information about which should be known. An experienced user can easily and quickly find out such information, but there are times when even he will have to "sweat".

How do I know which motherboard is installed?

Let's take a look at the most common ways to find out the brand of a motherboard with you. I must say right away that we will use both standard operating system tools and third-party programs.

Method 1. Visual inspection inside the computer

If your computer is not under warranty, then you can view the model of the motherboard directly on it. To do this, we open the system unit and look for large letters with numbers (they usually stand out among other inscriptions),

This is the easiest and most reliable way, because it is not always possible to quickly find out the brand of the motherboard by software. However, if you own a laptop or netbook, it is better to use standard OS tools or third-party programs to determine the motherboard model.

Method 2. Using the command line to view the motherboard model
To find out the model of the motherboard, press the key combination ⊞ Win + R, write cmd to call the command line window.

We drive in the command wmic baseboard get product and press Enter,

As you can see in the screenshot, information about the model of your motherboard will be displayed.

Method 3. Viewing the motherboard in System Information
So, again, press the key combination ⊞ Win + R, type in msinfo32 and press Enter,

The "System Information" window will open, where you can also see the brand of your motherboard,

However, there are times when the motherboard model name is missing. Therefore, if methods 2 and 3 did not help, then read on.

Method 4. Determine the motherboard using a service from Intel
In most cases, on the official Intel website, you can find out information about your motherboard online, that is, without downloading and installing individual programs. To do this, go to the address http://www.intel.com/support/ru/siu.htm click the Software Identification button,

we will wait until all your components are determined. Personally, this process took me about

as a result, we see all the information about the computer hardware, including the motherboard.

Method 5. Using a third-party program to determine the board model
You can find out which motherboard is installed using an irreplaceable program AIDA64(formerly Everest). I examined it in more detail.

Installing it is as easy as shelling pears, so we will not get stuck at this stage. So, when the program is already installed, you can proceed to the most important thing - viewing information about the board. To do this, in the program window that opens, select "Computer"

As you can see, the program does a very good job with identifying devices, moreover, from here you can download drivers for any device. Click on the selected device

Now, having a motherboard model, you can find out its parameters by driving the brand into a search engine (Yandex, Google, etc.). That's all, friends! I hope I have explained everything in an accessible and understandable way. If you have any questions, ask in the comments!

If you need to find out the model of the motherboard that is installed in your computer, then the easiest way is to disassemble it and see the model name on the motherboard itself. In most cases, it is enough to remove one of the side covers of the system unit.

Why you need to know your motherboard model

The motherboard name is not the most important characteristic of your computer. But under certain conditions you need to know it:

  • You need a description of the motherboard to find out the compatible types of processors, the maximum amount and type of RAM, the number of slots for it, the presence of a RAID controller, and much more. This information is useful when upgrading your computer.
  • You need to download drivers when installing the operating system or change the BIOS firmware.
  • When conducting an inventory to keep track of IT equipment in your organization.

When there is no way to find out the model of the motherboard

In some cases, it is not possible to disassemble the computer and read the name. For instance:

  • You don't have physical access to your computer. Relevant when you remotely administer a computer in another building, city or country.
  • Laziness. No one wants to climb under tables on the floor between trash bins, removable shoes and workers' bags.
  • The system unit is sealed. Damaged seals may void your seller's warranty.
  • You do not have a tool (screwdriver) to unscrew the screws and remove the cover of the system unit. This is also possible, because the fasteners can be under the "asterisk" or you went to a girl you know for a moment, who simply does not have a screwdriver, and a nail file does not cope with the task at hand.

How to find out the model of the motherboard using programs

If you are using a Windows operating system on your computer, you can use several hardware diagnostic programs. For example speccy.

How to find out the motherboard model from the command line

However, the easiest way is to use the command line. That is, you do not need to install any additional software, the built-in tools of the Windows operating system are enough.
To find out the manufacturer of the motherboard use the command wmic baseboard get Manufacturer
You should see something like the following:

C: \> Windows \ system32> wmic baseboard get Manufacturer Manufacturer ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.

To find out the model use wmic baseboard get product
You will see something like the following.

New PC parts appear on the market every year, and many users decide to upgrade the system at some point. Before replacing the main items of equipment, for example, a processor or video card, you should find out which motherboard is on the computer.

Motherboard information

Not every user is aware of how to find out which motherboard is on a computer. Information about it should become a starting point when updating the configuration of equipment. There are now two major processor manufacturers on the market - Intel and AMD. Both of these companies have developed their own motherboard connector (MP). Installing a processor from a competitor into it simply will not work: even different lines of the same manufacturer sometimes require different sockets (connectors). For this, you should know how to look at the model of the motherboard.

When updating, many users try to save money on this part by buying a powerful video card, RAM, and a processor of the latest generation. It should be borne in mind that the motherboard is the primary factor in how well all these parts will work well, interact with each other and whether they will be able to unleash their potential 100%.

How to determine the model

At MP, the manufacturer must be included in the labeling, of which there are about 5 at this stage. The most popular brands include:

  • Asus;
  • Gigabyte;
  • Biostar;
  • ASrock.

The second part of the device name is the model, which will become an identifier for searching technical specifications on the Internet. Each manufacturer posts documentation on its website and everything can be read online. You must search for the entire name as a whole, and not only for the model or brand name of the manufacturer. The information obtained will help you with the further purchase of parts.

Where to see the name of the motherboard

There are several proven ways to find out the name of the motherboard. For some of them, you will have to disassemble the system unit, and for some, find a box of accessories with documentation. In cases where the PC was purchased in a store already assembled, you can find out the MP marking only by removing the side panel and conducting a visual inspection, or using special utilities to display the characteristics of PC parts.

How to find out which motherboard is on the computer

In order to understand whether your PC is ready for an update, you need to understand how to find out which motherboard is on your computer. It depends on whether it can be left or should it also be replaced. To determine the model, you can use one of the following methods:

  • physical examination;
  • BIOS data;
  • find a box or technical documentation;
  • download a program for determining the characteristics of a PC.

Visually

The easiest way to recognize the motherboard on a computer is to find the markings on the part itself. Disassembling the system unit is very simple, but keep in mind that when the side cover is removed, all manufacturer's warranty obligations for the case (not parts, but only the case) will be canceled. To determine the board number:

  1. Loosen the screws on the back of the computer on one side.
  2. The side panel should open and you will see all the details.
  3. You need a motherboard to which all other parts are attached.
  4. Find the largest label with the manufacturer's name (Asus, Gigabyte, etc.). This is the board model.
  5. You don't need other smaller markings.

Motherboard BIOS

Another easy way to find out the labeling of the motherboard is to restart the PC. Yes, you just need to use this action and arm yourself with a pen and paper. When the PC is turned on, it immediately displays the name and model of the MP in large letters on the screen. You need to read and write quickly, because this data is displayed for about 2-3 seconds. If you did not have time to rewrite, then you need to have time to press the "del" button in order to switch to the BIOS. But this method is suitable only for owners of the new version of UEFI, it immediately displays the brand of the part.

Computer Specification Viewer

You can find out which motherboard is installed in a computer or laptop in several ways. Usually you need to look at the information about the "motherboard" when you need to install it. In this article, I will show you several ways by which you can definitely see information about your motherboard. So, let's begin...

1) It is not trite, but the first thing you need to look for a box from the "mother". If you assembled a computer from components, then it should be. It just shows the name and model:

2) If there is no box and was lost a long time ago, then there is an option with other "spare parts" that can go together if you bought a complete system unit or a laptop. In particular, I mean the instruction itself, or at least the disks. They also have a name:

3) If everything is really bad with the instructions, disks and the box, then the last "physical" option to look at the motherboard model is to open the system unit. Of course, this method is more suitable for "systemists", but the laptop can also be disassembled. But will you collect it later ... However, the fact remains. Manufacturers write the name of their product on all motherboards:

or

4) Open and enter into it

wmic baseboard get product, Manufacturer, version, serialnumber

If we decrypt this line, then we display information about:
Product - Model
Manufacturer - Manufacturer
Version - Version
SerialNumber - Serial number

If you do not need something, then you can simply omit the lines in the query. For example, if you just find out about the manufacturer and model (which is most often needed), then the line will be like this:

wmic baseboard get product, Manufacturer

5) With the help of special programs that are designed to collect information about the computer. I wrote about this, for example, in an article? or . There, at the end of the articles, I gave links to similar programs. For example, there are a lot of them in the article too.
You can even just use a free program CPU-Z() and on the desired tab you will see your motherboard

Finally, I want to note that I did not describe in great detail about how to mono view information about the motherboard on a laptop. It is shown when you just turn on the "beech" and there is information on the black boot screen below. But I just don't think that you will memorize the necessary information so quickly and will sit with a piece of paper (and reboot several times because of this) when there are much easier ways to find out which motherboard model you have installed.

How to find out, what model of motherboard is installed on your computer or laptop? Such information may be needed if you reinstalled Windows and now want to download the necessary drivers for the chipset, sound, network card. Or, for example, you decided to upgrade your computer and want to purchase a new, more powerful processor. In this case, you also need to know the model of your motherboard.
In today's article I will tell you what are the ways to find out the model of the installed motherboard.

1. The first way is with command line... For me personally, this is the easiest way and, let's say, less energy-consuming.

To call the command line in Windows, go to "Start" - "Run" (or just press the keyboard shortcut Win + R). In the window that opens, type cmd and click OK:
The command line will start. In it you need to enter the command:

for determining motherboard models: wmic baseboard get product

for determining motherboard manufacturer: wmic baseboard get manufacturer

After entering any command - press the key Enter on keyboard:

2. The second way to find out the model of the motherboard by means of Windows itself is to call the standard utility "System Information".

Again go to "Start" - "Run" (or just press the keyboard shortcut Win + R). In the window that opens, enter the command msinfo32 and click OK:
Will start System Information utility: here in the right column we will see the manufacturer and model of the motherboard (in rare cases, the standard utility does not display the name of the motherboard):

3. The next way is to use a third party program called.

This program provides complete information about the hardware installed in your computer. The program is paid, but the first 30 days of use is free.

Run the downloaded file - install the program. Then open the installed program and go to the tab Mainboard... Here we see the model and manufacturer of the motherboard:

5. The fifth way is not software. You can remove the cover of the system unit by unscrewing a couple of bolts with a screwdriver. After that, take a close look at the motherboard - its name will be applied to the PCB of the board itself:

6. If you have left motherboard box, then the name can be viewed on it:

7. If preserved User's Manual to the motherboard, the name will be written on its cover:

8. Also the model name of the motherboard can be see immediately after turning on the computer(during board self-test). To do this, press the key Pause on the keyboard (to pause the download) and read the name of the motherboard on the monitor screen. It will be written above the processor model:
