Onet plus 3t smartphone full review. Gorgeous screen and fingerprint sensor

In June 2016, the young Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, after the unsuccessful flagship last year, released its third top-end device. A relatively inexpensive smartphone with an excellent appearance, high-quality AMOLED screen and enviable gaming performance immediately found its fans. Six months later, OnePlus decided to release an updated model that will match the top models of competitors. And here the company followed the path of Apple, which exploits the design of devices and releases updated models with new hardware in the old case. Is it good? Consider this situation using the OnePlus 3T as an example.

The OnePlus 3t package bundle is similar to that of the previous model. And this is rather good news, because here the company has something to boast about. The smartphone comes in a fairly massive box, where it is placed in a special plastic form. Under it, you can find a kind of thick cardboard envelope with instructions in English and a paperclip to remove the SIM tray. A 4 Amp power supply and a USB Type-C cable under the envelope are located in special compartments. Traditionally for OnePlus, the DASH Charge fast charging cable is a rare example of how you can make a simple accessory of high quality and attractive appearance.

Appearance, ergonomics, fingerprint scanner

The manufacturer clearly invested a lot of resources in the creation of the OnePlus 3 case, which eventually received a lot of flattering reviews from global IT publications. Therefore, it is not surprising that the new flagship actually turned out to be just updated. The appearance of the OnePlus 3t cannot be praised for any special design delights, it just looks good and is extremely ergonomic. If I can say so about a device with a 5.5-inch screen.

The smartphone is an all-metal aluminum body with a large screen in front. There are two thin plastic dividers on the back of the lid. They are painted in a darker tone compared to the body, but purely subjectively, they absolutely do not spoil the appearance of the smartphone. Due to the thin body, a fairly massive camera module protrudes well above the back cover. If there are concerns that it might not survive a fall, you can get official covers from OnePlus - protective pads or a flip case. Both cost $20.

It's nice that they did not save on aluminum in the smartphone case. The power button on the right side, the volume rocker and the sound mode slider are made of the same material. The buttons have an excellent clear course, but the volume keys dangle minimally in the case. Although in my iPhone 6 the situation is exactly the same, which does not interfere with everyday use at all.

The lower part is an example of what modern flagships should be. Between the two screws on the sides of the lower edge are a sufficiently loud and clear-sounding multimedia speaker, a USB Type-C connector, the main microphone (the second for noise reduction right above the main camera on a plastic separator) and a 3.5 mm audio output.

The front of the OnePlus 3T is the same as its predecessor. Above the large display are: a standard set of sensors, a speaker, a new 16-megapixel camera for this model and a notification LED indicator.

Below the screen is a touch-sensitive Home button with a built-in fingerprint sensor and two touch buttons with minimal backlighting on the sides. The fingerprint scanner itself has not undergone any changes, it is still the same smart in terms of recognition speed - unlocking the smartphone happens just instantly. In general, this location of the fingerprint scanner is considered the most convenient due to the fact that the smartphone does not need to be lifted from the table to unlock it.

Recently, developers of local Android applications have become more active and have begun to implement support for fingerprint scanners in their programs. For example, recently such a function appeared in the application of the Ukrainian PrivatBank, where it is very convenient to enter using a scanner.

The only difference between the OnePlus 3 and 3T cases is the colors. Now the new flagship can be bought either in dark gray, even almost brown, or in trendy gold.

Having used all the current flagships, I can safely say that OnePlus 3T is one of the most convenient devices to use with one “but”. Unlike Xiaomi and Meizu smartphones, the smartphone does not feel, so to speak, “Chinese”. There are no compromises here, deliberately shiny finish of the case or some eye-catching elements of the case. This is a strict smartphone, which I was just as pleased to use as, say, an iPhone. That “but” is a very thin case with a rounded back cover, which sits perfectly in the hand, but sometimes tries to slip out. The solution is the same as in the case of a camera protruding above the body - buying an official case.

Display

Unsurprisingly, the screen on the new OnePlus 3t is no different from the previous model either. It's still the same 5.5-inch AMOLED-matrix with FullHD resolution. Yes, there is the notorious PenTile pixel pattern, but at a pixel density of 401 PPI, this does not affect image quality in any way.

Traditionally, for AMOLED matrices, highly oversaturated, almost unnatural colors are noticeable here, and there are enough fans of them in the world. But if you are not like that, and besides, you want to properly edit pictures from your smartphone, then the sRGB mode activation lever, which is located in the display settings, will come in handy. With it, the colors are as close as possible to those in IPS-matrices.

The display brightness remained at the same level - from 2 to 383 cd/m2. In the sun, readability is normal, and in the dark, traditionally for AMOLED matrices, everything is fine. If you also activate, say, a black theme in the reader application, then, according to my personal feelings, your eyes will not get tired at all. Under the rays of a fairly bright spring sun, the brightness is not enough, but turning off the sRGB profile saves a little, since in the standard mode the color contrast is much higher.

The OnePlus 3t display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 tempered glass with a good oleophobic coating and the notorious 2.5D effect, that is, slightly rounded on the sides. According to personal feelings, such a display is simply more pleasant to use than a display with clear edges on the sides. For a week of active use with glass, except for a couple of small scratches, nothing happened.

Operating system and shell

The operating system of OnePlus smartphones is one of their biggest selling points. Initially, they worked on the already deceased CyanogenMod, and now on similar custom firmware. All these systems were united by the idea of "bare" Android, which ran Google smartphones under the Nexus brand, with enhanced functionality. OnePlus 3T is no exception. Everything is the same as in the previous model. The model for the Chinese market runs on HydrogenOS, while the US and European models run on OxygenOS. I tested a smartphone with OxygenOS 4.0.3 based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

Externally, the system is almost a complete clone of the official Google Start launcher. There is a general menu of applications with vertical scrolling, and a familiar notification curtain. The first noticeable change is the front page of desktops called Shelf, where widgets and weather information are concentrated. In the settings there is a switch from a light theme to a dark one, the ability to activate on-screen buttons instead of touch buttons, fine-tuning the notification LED, and support for gestures on the screen, which I could not get used to.

OnePlus was one of the first companies to start updating its smartphones to the latest version of Android 7. OnePlus 3T already comes with this system on board. There are few changes from OxygenOS on Android 6 Marshmallow, but they are all useful. For example, you can now reply to messages directly from the notification shade. Naturally, it became possible to use two running applications at once on one screen and quickly return to the previous application using a double tap on the "Back" button.

The main change in the OnePlus 3T compared to the model that was released six months before it is Qualcomm's latest mobile chipset. At the same time, the change is purely marketing, because the OnePlus 3 already had excellent performance. Let's see what the new OnePlus flagship is capable of on the most current chipset.

The smartphone uses the same chipset as Xiaomi Mi Note 2 or LeEco Le Pro3. A 64-bit SoC based on the Kryo architecture with four cores, two of which operate at 2.35 GHz and the other two at 1.6 GHz. Video accelerator - Adreno 530 with a frequency of 624 MHz. With such hardware, the smartphone works extremely fast, without any lags and freezes. Everything just bounces off the fingers, it feels (and first of all, I think, due to optimization and shell) everything works a little faster than on Mi Note 2.

There is no need to talk about performance in games for a long time. Modern Combat 5, Asphalt Extreme, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas work perfectly at maximum settings and with stable FPS. My smartphone warmed up a little under continuous load to a temperature of 48 degrees Celsius, but no throttling was noticeable.

A multiple run of the AnTuTu benchmark confirms the absence of throttling - the difference in points was within one thousand. Both in AnTuTu and in other synthetic tests, OnePlus 3T almost always scores the highest number of points or stays at the level among the models presented and overtakes, for example, the well-known Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Performance comparison by Antutu version:

The OnePlus 3t I tested has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM, there is also a model with increased internal storage up to 128 GB. Six gigabytes of RAM is enough even to keep up to 7-10 applications and a couple of resource-intensive toys in working condition. It is felt that the amount of RAM is right here in excess, because applications can simply hang in memory for two days, and then unload in the same working state in which they were minimized. In all other respects, the OnePlus 3T is identical to the OnePlus 3.

Communications and multimedia

The OnePlus 3T, like the previous model, has one feature that many simply underestimate when choosing a smartphone. This is a three position slider - mute, custom and standard. During the testing of the phone, I more than once caught myself thinking how convenient it is to use it in everyday life. iPhone users with an even less functional slider will understand.

With the tasks of voice communication 3T copes perfectly. He has a high-quality conversational speaker that allows you to hear the interlocutor even while traveling on the subway, plus a good multimedia speaker. It has an average volume, and as a former Google Nexus 6 user, the smartphone does not seem very loud to me. Although the sound it produces is of high quality and even with a hint of some kind of bass.

Navigation is good. With a bunch of GPS + A-GPS in about 10-15 seconds, the smartphone found and held about ten GPS satellites, seven GLONASS and even a couple of Beidou.

autonomy

The battery capacity of the OnePlus 3t has been increased by 400 mAh compared to its predecessor - 3400 mAh versus 3000 - which had no particular problems with autonomy with its four hours of display activity. I must say right away that it is not worth counting on the fact that everything will be better here. Still, a more productive Snapdragon 821 chipset is installed here, to which part of the increased battery capacity is intended.

However, I can’t complain about the autonomy of OnePlus 3T. On average, a smartphone showed me from 3.5 to 4.5 hours of screen activity, depending on the load of the smartphone. In my traditional mode of use with several calls per day, high display brightness, constant activity in three or four instant messengers, reading an average of about an hour a day and, of course, constant use of the camera, the phone worked quietly from 9 am to 8-9 pm , after which it had to be sent for charging.

Like the previous flagship, OnePlus 3T cannot boast of gigantic autonomy, like, say, Moto Z Play and iPhone 7 Plus, but for the average user, I think these results will be enough.

Moreover, the device supports DASH Charge fast charging using a power supply with an output voltage of 5 Volts and a current of up to 4 Amps. It feels even faster than Turbo Charge in Moto, where it takes me an average of one hour and 20-30 minutes to fully charge the smartphone from 0 to 100%. Here, this figure is 20 minutes less. Up to 60% capacity of the smartphone battery is charged in an average of 30-35 minutes.

cameras

The main camera in OnePlus 3t is the same as in the previous model, which has already been withdrawn from sale. It is equipped with a 16 megapixel Sony IMX298 sensor with phase detection autofocus. As before, the camera shoots well enough to compete with all modern flagships, but subjectively loses in performance of the iPhone 7/7 Plus. More precisely, he does not know how to quickly make a picture that is not bad in all respects.

The camera interface is simple and convenient. It is possible to activate the manual mode with setting shutter speed, focus, ISO and white balance. As in Moto smartphones, here you can activate the quick launch of the camera by double-clicking the power button. Several photo modes are available: auto, auto-HDR, HDR and HQ.

Full size images can be downloaded from this link.

The smartphone can record video in 4K and FullHD at 30fps, as well as slow-mo in 720p at 120fps. Video quality isn't great, with the latest iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S7, and Google Pixel outperforming the OnePlus 3t with adequate stabilization and wider dynamic range.

The front camera is now a whopping 16 megapixels thanks to the Samsung 3P8SP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. It can be seen by eye that the resolution has increased, but due to the rigidly fixed autofocus, you can sometimes miss and get a slightly blurry selfie.

Results

OnePlus 3T is a largely improved flagship model from six months ago, which was already considered one of the most profitable purchases in terms of price and quality. Yes, the smartphone has risen in price a little, but it has got an advanced mobile chipset, the performance of which will last for another couple of years, an increased amount of internal memory and an improved front camera. I think the last point will be corrected in subsequent OxygenOS updates, as OnePlus often does. The bottom line suggests itself - even with the increased cost, the OnePlus 3T is the very first $400-plus smartphone worth paying attention to.

What we liked:

    appearance and new body color;

    even excessive performance;

    AMOLED display;

    a fast fingerprint scanner that doesn't play Touch ID 2.0 on the iPhone 7;

    support for fast charging DASH Charge;

    "naked" Android with extended functionality;

    improved front camera.

What did not like:

due to fixed autofocus, it is easy to miss and get a little blurry selfie.

Where could I buy?

Thanks to the Gearbest online store for the smartphone provided for review. The OnePlus 3T Gunmetal (dark grey) with 64 GB of storage costs $440 at the time of publication. The promo code "GB3T" reduces the cost of the smartphone to $418, and you can additionally save another 6% (depending on the site) by using the cashback service.

Thank you for your attention!

The Chinese company One Plus, releasing commercially successful flagship models of smartphones, successfully competes with such "monsters" of the mobile market as Apple, Samsung and Google. One of the most successful in the history of the company was the One Plus 3 model released in June 2016. And just five months after its release, an updated 3T modification was presented, which came to our test.

Was such an early release of the new model justified? What is it and how is it different from its predecessor? We have prepared a detailed review of One Plus 3T, after reading which you will find out all the features and characteristics of this smartphone.

OnePlus 3T video review

To get a first impression of what the One Plus 3T is all about, watch the video review of this model:

Price and features

At the beginning of March 2017, the price for 3T starts from 24,000 rubles. This is cheaper than in the US, where a similar model costs an average of $399-499. The difference in price arose due to the fact that One Plus phones are produced in China, from where they are delivered directly to Russia, and to the USA across the ocean. You can also save a lot on buying a phone if you order it directly from a Chinese website.

Specifications 1+3T:

  • screen: 5.5” Full-HD Super AMOLED;
  • Processor: Snapdragon821 + GPU Adreno 530;
  • RAM: 66 GB;
  • internal memory: 64/128 GB, depending on the modification;
  • cameras: main - 16 MP, front - 16 MP;
  • wireless interfaces: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS, LTE;
  • battery: 3400 mAh.

Consider all the features of the phone in more detail.

Design and ergonomics

Visually, the new model is very similar to the third smartphone of the line, that is, its predecessor. On sale there are two serial colors - gold and dark gray, as well as limited versions called Colette and Midnight Black. Only 250 Colette-type smartphones were made, for which huge queues lined up in Paris. The Midnight Black design is more accessible, but also limited edition.

The aluminum back panel houses the One Plus logo, camera lens, and flash. There are plastic inserts for antennas, the transition between materials is almost indistinguishable tactilely, visually the stripes also harmoniously complement the design of the smartphone.

On the left edge there is a triple button for switching sound modes, which in practice turns out to be very convenient, and a volume rocker.

On the right is the screen lock key and a tray for a slot with cards (2x NanoSim).

Below is a USB-C port, a headphone jack and a speaker grille. The upper end of the body was completely empty.

On the front panel, covered with tempered glass Gorilla Glass 4, there is a mechanical key with a built-in fingerprint. It works almost instantly with a minimum number of false positives.

Despite the screen diagonal of 5.5 inches, the smartphone turned out to be very compact, it easily fits in your hand. At the same time, the metal body has a matte, slightly rough surface that does not slip and has a confident grip.

Display

The screen of the new model is exactly the same as that of the regular One Plus - it is 5.5 AMOLED with a resolution of Full HD 1920 × 1080 401ppi. The protective glass during testing of the smartphone did not receive even the slightest scratches, the olephobic coating on it is also very good.

The display is bright, rich and contrasty. Viewing angles are maximum, the brightness range is more than sufficient for any conditions of use. In general, the 3T screen is truly flagship.

The smartphone has many options for customizing the display, there are adjustments for color temperature, contrast, etc. The screen brightness auto-adjustment mode for external conditions works correctly. It is very useful on a sunny day, when you either walk down the street with your phone, or go into shaded rooms. In both cases, what is happening on the screen will be clearly visible and you will not have to manually change the brightness each time.

Iron, performance

One Plus 3T is powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor, while its predecessor is powered by a Snapdragon 820. In practice, the difference between the two chipsets is absolutely imperceptible, the performance of both is enough for the eyes in any smartphone usage scenarios. Therefore, if you have One Plus 3, do not rush to change it to a new one - you will not see much difference in speed.

For the entire time of testing, we did not notice moments of thoughtfulness of the smartphone, any bugs or jams. Everything flies - both in the interface and the browser, and in games. Add to this the amount of RAM even increased to 6 GB and we get a smartphone that will be relevant for at least a few more years, since now it is one of the best in terms of hardware.

Cameras, image and video quality

One of the main differences between the 1+3T and its predecessor is the 16-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. However, this did not give a really tangible increase in the quality of the selfie, the picture was not much better than the one that the 8-MP 1 + 3 front camera produced, and the pictures turned out to be decent.

Video 1 + 3T writes in 4K resolution, the picture turns out to be very decent in detail, but stabilization sometimes fails. In general, in terms of photo and video capabilities, the smartphone may well compete with the flagships of A-brands, here it will not disappoint even demanding users.

Speaker and sound quality

The 1+3T has a useful volume mode button that allows you to choose between three profiles: normal, quiet and do not disturb (silent), which is very convenient for various situations. The quality of the multimedia speaker is good, the sound is loud and clear. The headphones are also doing well.

The microphone and speaker of the device work flawlessly. During a conversation, the interlocutor, like you, is perfectly audible, and he claims the same thing.

Battery

We conducted various endurance tests of the One Plus 3T, testing it intensively all day long: taking photos and videos, surfing the Internet and using the device as a navigator. The smartphone lasted until the evening, and it still had 15% of the charge left.

In a more economical mode, the battery holds a charge for about two days. The test of continuous video playback with wireless turned off gave almost 17 hours of active screen - this is a very cool result. Well, as it should be, the 3T flagship is equipped with fast charging, which fills the battery from zero to 100% in an hour.

Wireless communications and the Internet

The smartphone supports Wi-Fi, GPS, NFS, Bluetooth 4.2, GLONASS and the Chinese BeiDou system. On a cold start, it adjusts to satellite navigation for about 5 seconds. The device receives a signal from a Wi-Fi router at a distance of up to 350 meters. 3G/4G Internet is fast and stable both outdoors and indoors, no connection problems were found.

Through USB-C, the smartphone correctly connects to any external devices. The disadvantages of the model include perhaps the absence of the FM-radio, beloved by conservatives.

The OnePlus 7T brings together all the best features of the 7 Pro, like a 90Hz display and a triple camera system, for a lower price. The smartphone is priced at $599 (59 thousand rubles), this is one of the best phones on the market.

Speed, functionality and experience have always been a key part of the OnePlus ethos. Her devices have consistently delivered one of the most comfortable Android experiences at a price that many can afford. When the 7 Pro was launched, it still delivered more value than any other phone for the money, but OnePlus was clearly aiming to compete in the premium segment rather than dominate the mid-range.

The OnePlus 7T smartphone is a true comeback for the company. It offers many of the same features as the $600 7 Pro and has a Snapdragon 855 Plus with a 90Hz display. In this review, I tested the 7T model in Glacial Blue with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, running Oxygen OS version 10.0.1 based on Android 10.

What's in the box?

  • OnePlus 7T.
  • TPU case.
  • USB-A to USB-C cable.
  • 30W Warp Charge charger.
  • Instruction for the user.

The OnePlus 7T phone comes with the new Warp Charge 30T charger. This is a 30W unit, but OnePlus claims they have optimized the power transfer. Therefore, the device can charge phones 27% faster than Warp Charge 30 in previous models. The charger also protects the phone from overheating by converting the voltage to 5V / 6A in the block, instead of converting it on the device.

As with the 7 Pro, the 7T also comes with a TPU case. I'm always happy to see these add-ons in the box, especially since OnePlus offers some of the best quality add-ons on the market.

Design and appearance

The OnePlus 7T looks similar to the OnePlus 7 from the front, but is very different from the back. The screen sits a little higher, allowing for a larger 20:9 ratio. This brings the display size up to 6.55 inches from the 7's 6.41, the change is noticeable in the hand. The phone looks more attractive and I enjoyed it while using the device.

The teardrop notch on the front is slightly reduced. While it's not as noticeable compared to the OnePlus 7, it's nice to see OnePlus trying to keep it as small as possible. Many of the devices the 7T competes with have already eliminated the notch entirely, and I'm sure OnePlus will continue to reduce the gaps in their devices over time.

The sides of the device look almost identical to the OnePlus 7 and 6T. The volume buttons occupy the left edge, while the power and notification switch are located on the right. At the bottom, you'll find the speaker, USB-C port, and dual SIM tray. From the back, the phone is covered in familiar glass - the same as the OnePlus 6T, 7 and 7 Pro, but this glass houses a completely new camera module. It has a round shape similar to that of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. It's almost the same camera system as the OnePlus 7 Pro, but instead of 3x, it's 2x here - without optical image stabilization. Under the central lens there is a two-tone flash.

Unfortunately, OnePlus has not officially certified the 7T with an IP rating, which is standard for the company. The manufacturer says it independently tests water resistance to keep costs down. However, you should not take it in the shower.

Smartphone display

In the new OnePlus 7T, we get a 6.55-inch 90Hz AMOLED display with 2400×1080 Full HD+ resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio, with HDR10/HDR+ and 42% reduced blue light certification. OnePlus also gave the 7T a 90Hz screen, every time I switch to high refresh rate panels I wonder how I got by without it. Even simple scrolling looks incredible at best since most displays you use on a daily basis are maxed out at 50 or 60Hz. It is really difficult for me to explain this phenomenon, so I recommend that you take a look at it for yourself in the nearest store.

The new 7T is also equally incredible in terms of overall display quality. I ran the device through a series of tests and the phone came out on top, beating even the Galaxy Note 10 Plus in a number of ways. Considering how much Samsung boasts about the quality of its panels, this is a huge achievement. However, the Note 10 Plus outperforms the 7T in resolution as OnePlus opted for 1080p for this device. But, the OnePlus 7T's screen came out ahead in every other area I tested, including color temperature, color accuracy, maximum brightness, and gamma accuracy. Overall, this 1080p panel looks absolutely incredible, and it's easier to read thanks to brighter lighting.

The screen is also HDR10 and HDR+ compatible, meaning it can properly display content with lots of color and contrast information. Services like Netflix are actively adding HDR content for consumption. There is an in-display fingerprint reader, although it's not as fast or as accurate as on the OnePlus 7 Pro. I usually needed to put my finger a couple of times before it unlocked the device.

OnePlus 7T cameras

Traditionally, OnePlus cameras have not been amazing. The company has always advertised bigger pixels and better low-light performance, but we haven't seen much improvement here for a number of years. Therefore, it was unexpected when the manufacturer began releasing frequent camera software updates for the 7 Pro. It had a decent set of cameras at launch, but not a fantastic one. However, the images have gotten better and better over time, and now they're damn good.

Speaking of the OnePlus 7T, the company has brought the improved camera software to this device as well. In good light, the images from the new phone are fantastic. For a device that costs less than 40 thousand rubles, this should be one of the best systems available at the moment.

OnePlus' 7T has three cameras on the back, similar to the 7 Pro. The main one is a 48-megapixel Sony IMX 586 lens that shrinks images to 12-megapixels for better light collection. The wide-angle lens is technically a 13MP sensor, but it produces 12MP shots in order to enable electronic stabilization without noticeable cropping. The third camera is a 2x telephoto lens, up from 3x on the 7 Pro. Unfortunately, the 12MP telephoto lens lacks optical stabilization, so you need to keep focus more stable when using it.

Photo quality

Images are crisp but not over-sharpened when colors are great overall. There is a noticeable difference in the color profiles of the wide, standard, and telephoto lenses. This is probably due to the automatic white balance and the use of different sources at different focal lengths.

Dynamic range is very good, but it can be a bit aggressive if the image has a lot of contrast. This is typical of smartphone cameras as they try to balance shadows and highlights. In a balanced state, I like the color profile that the 7T produces. It can be very moody in a good way, but it's nice to get such stylized photos right from the smartphone's camera.

Since OnePlus often improves the camera software, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a lot of updates in a short amount of time. The manufacturer even added a motor to the camera system so we could take super macro shots - the resulting images are pretty amazing. Here I felt how phone cameras are beginning to become tools for everyday life.

The selfie camera in this device is also very good. Images are crisp, have pleasing color, and even look good in low-light conditions. It's not the best selfie camera on the market, but it's a decent one.

Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with the camera system in the new OnePlus. It's hard to find something better in this price range.

Software

The OnePlus 7T runs Oxygen OS 10 based on the Android 10 operating system, making it one of the first devices to feature the latest version of Android. The update brings obvious changes like new navigation gestures and an option for dark mode. But, OnePlus says there are over 370 tweaks and optimizations in the software. Other changes include a new Reading Mode that can display low-gamut color, an enhanced Zen Mode for longer breaks, and Game Space that optimizes games on your device in high definition.

The Oxygen OS shell is one of my favorites. It's simple, and the additions to vanilla Android are really useful. We have a built-in DVR, reading mode, game mode and more. I love how OnePlus has made its interface full-featured yet well-optimized.

My only comment on this version of Oxygen OS is the new gesture system. It's based on Android 10 gestures, so it's not exactly OnePlus' fault. You swipe up to go to the home screen, swipe left or right to go back, or up and hold to multitask. I often had problems with multitasking and the phone immediately returned to the application that I was just in. You have to wait for the multitasking menu to pop up here, and I think this should be improved.

Performance and Benchmarks

At the heart of the OnePlus 7T is Qualcomm's most powerful processor to date, the Snapdragon 855 Plus. It is paired with an Adreno 640 GPU, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage. OnePlus' motto has long been "fast and fluid", no wonder the legacy continues. Oxygen OS is already quite minimalistic and optimized, but it is the powerful components under the body that make the operation of this device incredibly smooth and fast.

The Snapdragon 855 Plus processor is currently only in a few devices. This chip is clearly geared towards gaming, with a pretty significant 15% GPU boost over the 855. Given that OnePlus devices have long been seen as undercover gaming phones, this makes sense. To be honest, I'm impressed that OnePlus was able to offer us this chip at this price point.

Another hardware feature that provides fast performance is UFS 3.0 storage. The company first introduced a much faster memory option with the 7 Pro, and it's no less surprising that the feature moved to a slightly more affordable device so quickly. 128 GB is enough for most users. Unfortunately, there is no option for expansion via microSD cards. Considering OnePlus only offers one spec for this phone, it's good to see 8GB of RAM as well. The manufacturer has long been known for offering killer performance at a low price, and it continues to do so.

The OnePlus 7T performs very well in benchmarks. It scored 400,713 on AnTuTu versus 369,029 on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. It scored 6163 and 5408 in 3DMark, OpenGL and Vulcan, compared to 5692 and 5239 on the Note 10 Plus. On Geekbench, I got 3690 and 11452 for single-core and multi-core tests, compared to the Note 10 Plus scores of 3434 and 10854. In Gary Speed Test G, the new 7 Pro finished the test in 1 minute 30 seconds, almost the same as the Galaxy Note Plus.

Audio and sound

Alas, the OnePlus 7T does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, although it does have dual stereo speakers and they are very loud. When I tested them against the Galaxy Note 10 Plus converters, they were noticeably louder and didn't seem to distort at all, even at maximum volume. The bass was a bit lacking, but the sound seemed clearer. All in all, I really liked these speakers, and I think you'll like them too if you listen to music without an external source.

If you're using quality Bluetooth headphones, the OnePlus 7T supports Bluetooth 5.0, as well as aptX, aptX HD, LDAC, and AAC codecs.

Battery autonomy

Here OnePlus has increased the battery capacity to 3800 mAh, up from 3700 mAh for the OnePlus 7. But, the combination of a 90Hz display and a higher power consumption processor makes the new smartphone average battery life. The battery lasts about the same as the Galaxy Note 10 Plus. Most of the days I was able to get through the work day on a single charge without problems, but often I had to recharge the phone if I planned to work at night. In case you're wondering, by the time I hit 5%, there were about 5 hours and 45 minutes on screen.

The Warp Charge 30T device manages the energy in the block itself. This is intended to keep the smartphone cool while charging. You will definitely feel the phone get warm, but not by much, it is cooler than the 7 Pro while charging. The OnePlus 7T doesn't have wireless charging, which is a bit of a shame. Although I think OnePlus is waiting for high-speed wireless charging to become more standardized before adding this feature.

OnePlus 7T cost and alternatives

OnePlus 7T with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory was priced at $599 (39 thousand rubles). For the money, the 7T offers the best specs of any Android phone on the market right now. Even taking into account the current cost of $680 (45 thousand rubles) on AliExpress (link at the beginning of the review), this is much lower than the closest competitors.

looking for a bigger phone? OnePlus is still selling the OnePlus 7 Pro for $700. It has a larger display with high resolution, frequency and UFS 3.0 storage. At the same time, the processor is technically slower, but still one of the best on the market.

If you want to pay less and still get a great camera module, the Pixel 3a XL ($480) is still a solid option. The phone from Google has an incredible camera, clean software with Android 10.

If you're looking for one of the best gaming phones out there today, you can't go wrong with the Asus ROG Phone 2 ($900). We get the same processor and UFS 3 storage as on the 7T, but beat it with a faster 120Hz AMOLED display, more RAM, and a headphone jack.

Looking for a smartphone built for luxury? Then take the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus ($1099) - it's a great choice. The S Pen is great for taking digital notes, and the screen and form factor are great.

Outcome

The OnePlus 7T is one of the best devices OnePlus has made in recent years. The smartphone has the best specifications available on the market, the latest version of Android and an excellent camera system for the money.

Personally, I think the 7T puts the OnePlus 7 Pro in an even weirder position. The new device is cheaper, has better characteristics (weaker screen resolution and battery capacity). Sure, the 7 Pro offers a pop-up selfie camera, but the notch on this device doesn't really bother me. Great interface.

A smartphone that fits perfectly in your hand, with a comfortable shell, great screen, sound, camera and battery life. It is also the “flagship killer” and “iPhone on Android”. OnePlus 3T came to our review.

OnePlus stands apart from most Chinese smartphone makers. Firstly, because since 2014 it has released only 5 gadgets. Secondly, because 4 of them were top devices with maximum characteristics at the time of release. Thirdly, and it is difficult to describe in words, there is some kind of "breed" in the company's smartphones, which, with all due respect, Xiaomi and Meizu gadgets lack.

OnePlus traditionally releases one flagship a year, but in 2016 it broke the tradition and, following the June OnePlus 3, introduced a modified OnePlus 3T in November with a slightly more powerful processor, an improved front camera and a more capacious battery. In addition, the novelty received a different body color and a version with 128 GB of memory (in addition to the 64 GB variant).

And now OnePlus 3T has officially reached Belarus, and we have thoroughly tested it.

Bright packaging and excellent ergonomics

The packaging and accessories of the OnePlus 3T are very stylish - in white with bright red accents. And this despite the fact that the color of the smartphone itself in our review is most reminiscent of gray-brown (in the original - Gunmetal).

In addition, in nature, there are golden and (new) black versions of the smartphone:

Inside the box, you'll find the smartphone itself, a charger with cable, a clip for the SIM tray, a quick start guide, and a thank you letter to the customer from the head of OnePlus with a $5 code to shop on the company's website.

Note that the press photos of the smartphone looks worse than live.

A completely black front panel without names and logos is diluted with a slightly lighter and mirrored Home button (it is also a fingerprint scanner). Rounded 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 completes the picture.

The fingerprint scanner is very responsive and fast, there were almost no failures during testing.

All three buttons below the screen are touch-sensitive, have a vibration response and can be configured for additional actions - for example, by long / double pressing on any of them, you can lock the screen or turn on the camera.

Interestingly, for some reason there is no desire to physically press the central button, even though it looks like a normal one.

The rear surface and ends are a solid metal monolith with two strips of antennas. On the left side there is a volume rocker and a mode switch (vibration - silent - normal).

By the way, this "chip", borrowed from the iPhone, is incredibly convenient, since with one movement the sound of not only the call, but also notifications / multimedia is muffled.

On the right side you will find a slot for two nanoSIM cards (there was no room for microSD, however, 64 GB is enough for most) and a conveniently located lock button, at the bottom there is a USB-C port, a speaker and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

A small detail: all buttons have a large stroke and at the same time a clear click - it is a pleasure to press them.

The smartphone fits comfortably in the hand. This is facilitated by a rounded back cover, a small thickness - only 7.4 mm in the thickest part (the protruding camera does not count) and narrow frames around the screen. In addition, the gadget is very light for a 5.5-inch device - 158 grams. For comparison, the iPhone 7 Plus with the same display weighs 30 grams more.

The matte metal cover does not collect fingerprints and at the same time practically does not slip in the hand. So you most likely won’t drop your smartphone by accident.

Capacity for two years ahead

Until the release of the Samsung Galaxy S8 (that is, about a month), the One Plus 3T will remain the most powerful Android smartphone in the world. And all thanks to the most powerful Qualcomm processor in conjunction with 6 (!) GB of RAM and a rather "sparing" Full HD (and not Quad HD) screen.

AnTuTu confirms this:

By the way, here are all the characteristics of the device:

For the sake of “tick”, we launched World of Tanks Blitz on the OnePlus 3T at maximum settings, and in 10 minutes of the game we only saw “sagging” a little below 60 fps a few times. And even then after trying to take a screenshot or after receiving another message from the messenger.

At the same time, the smartphone only slightly warmed up during the game (Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processors are made using an energy-efficient 14-nm process).

So we can safely say: such power is more than enough for the next couple of years.

Great screen

The OnePlus 3T has a beautiful screen. The 5.5-inch AMOLED-matrix gives perfect blacks and is perfectly readable even under sunlight - there is a very high maximum brightness.

The image does not burn out even with a strong tilt, the only artifact in this case (due to AMOLED) is a barely noticeable greening, while the picture remains perfectly distinguishable.

Thanks to OnePlus for not bothering with QuadHD, but leaving a Full HD matrix. This resolution strains the processor and battery less, and individual pixels are still indistinguishable even when approaching.

The peculiarity of the AMOLED matrix is maximum contrast and at the same time “poisonous”, oversaturated colors. Some people like it, some don't (I personally don't), so the color temperature can be changed with one click in the settings (there is also the possibility of individual settings).

It turns out like this (was / became):

I would also like to note the excellent oleophobic coating and the fact that, despite the narrow bezels around the display, there are practically no false clicks.

Loud and high quality sound

Although we usually do not do this in reviews, we would like to highlight the sound of the gadget not only in headphones (although everything is fine with this too).

OnePlus obviously did not save on speakers - neither on the conversational (the interlocutor is heard as if he were standing nearby), nor on the usual one. The only pity is that there is only one ordinary speaker - it is located on the bottom end.

You are provided not only with a loud and beautiful ringtone that you will definitely hear on the street, but also with the opportunity to just listen to music with a fairly good quality and without any wheezing.

Battery life is above average

One of the improvements of the 3T model before the 3 was the increase in battery capacity from 3000 to 3400 mAh. On the other hand, here is a slightly more “gluttonous” processor.

Be that as it may, an energy-efficient chip in conjunction with an economical AMOLED screen and a rather big battery provide excellent autonomy. In our stress test with a lot of 3D games (more than an hour), Internet surfing (about 2 hours), synchronization of two mailboxes and three messengers, the OnePlus 3T survived more than a day and a half of calls for half an hour.

This is a very good result, and with a more economical use of the smartphone, it is quite possible to count on a couple of days of work without recharging. The synthetic test confirms real observations:

But even if you "drive" OnePlus 3T with all your might, it's not critical - thanks to support for fast charging. In half an hour, the smartphone will come to life from 0 to about 50%, and a full charge of the gadget will take, according to our observations, about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Of course, that all this when using a standard charger.

Good photos and videos

The OnePlus 3T uses two 16-megapixel cameras.

The main one has f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and optical stabilization system.

The camera cannot be called ideal, especially in evening / night photos, where serious noise and focusing difficulties appear. Her rating is "well above average".

This is just a very good photomodule, and with such a camera it is quite possible to travel, for example, to Lviv:

In addition, the smartphone does an excellent job of recording video in any conditions - it supports shooting 2160p videos at 30fps (or [email protected]). Even loud music is recorded with high quality and without wheezing. So OnePlus 3T is quite possible to take to concerts:

Attention! You have JavaScript disabled, your browser does not support HTML5, or an older version of Adobe Flash Player is installed.

The front camera, despite the high resolution, is also not perfect. There are no questions about selfies at close range (with hands) - good pictures are obtained both during the day and under artificial lighting, but distant photos (with a monopod) sometimes come out unfocused.

A little about the shell

One of the biggest advantages of OnePlus smartphones is the simple and convenient OxygenOS shell (it is used for the global version, for China there is a more “weighted” HydrogenOS).

It's practically pure Android with a bare minimum of useful additional options like an additional screen with weather and speed dial, support for gestures (draw "o" to open the camera, II - to pause, etc.) and additional features due to sensors (flip to turn off the sound, double-tap to turn on the screen).

At the same time, OnePlus releases updates quite quickly. During testing, we already had Android 7.0, and in some countries the update to the latest version 7.1.1 began.

Eventually

First of all, we liked the One Plus 3T for its balance. There is no big (and even not very big) minus here, which would obscure the numerous pluses and make you think about choosing another top-end device.

Yes, there are not ideal (but very good) cameras here, there is no protection against water and dust, which top manufacturers have already accustomed us to.

Perhaps that’s all with the minuses, pluses remain: excellent build quality, thin metal case, bright and clear screen, excellent sound, highest performance, long battery life, fast charging, support for two SIM cards, a good fingerprint scanner and comfortable sheath.

OnePlus 3T is an almost perfect flagship, and we highly recommend it if you are not embarrassed by not the most famous brand in Belarus and a relatively high price (relative to, for example, Xiaomi flagships). The latter, however, he fully fulfills.

The OnePlus 3T smartphone was provided for testing by United Trading Company LLC. The company did not have the opportunity to influence the result of testing and did not see the material before publication.

The OnePlus 3T is a newer version of the relatively impressive OnePlus 3. Currently, this smartphone can even afford to compete with the Google Pixel.

OnePlus 3T Smartphone Reviews

OnePlus 3 is the best smartphone OnePlus has released so far. Will the new model be able to compete with the original, and are all its innovations so good? You will learn about it in this review. Go!

Gorgeous minimalist OnePlus 3T design

Putting the OnePlus 3 next to the OnePlus 3T makes it almost impossible to tell them apart, at least in appearance. It's a pretty logical move as there was no point in redesigning the OnePlus 3 given that the last one came out just six months ago. Plus, the original design was great on its own.

The 3T has changed the structure of the metal shell that was on the OnePlus 2 from rough to smoother, and the overall design has become more minimalist. The One Plus logo is embossed on the back of the device, and like the iPhone and HTC, the back cover has two darker colored lines at the top and bottom, and the camera lens is slightly raised off the body.

If you take the smartphone in hand, you can see that its sides are slightly curved and completely smooth, thanks to this, the device lies perfectly in the palm of your hand. Considering the amount of time that phones spend in the palm of a person throughout the day, this is very important. After debuting with a high level of quality and comfort, the OnePlus 3 has taken it to the next level with phones like the ZTE Axon 7 and Huawei Nova. The new OnePlus 3T may not quite live up to the ideas behind the formation of the Axon 7, but the 3T has managed to get as close as possible to the latest generation of phones.

It is worth noting that the phone is surprisingly compact. Samsung and LG have 5.1-inch and 5.3-inch screens, respectively, like the other best phones this year. While the OnePlus 3 has a 5.5-inch screen, it's barely wider than the LG G5 and only a millimeter or so longer. In addition, the smartphone is thinner and weighs 158 grams, which is almost the same weight as the G5 and S7.

Gorgeous screen and fingerprint sensor

The screen of the OnePlus 3T is covered with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 protective glass, which has a curved shape, it beautifully completes the modern design. There is only a fingerprint sensor, which also acts as a home button. A two-stage switch allows you to selectively mute alerts based on their importance. This saves time and the switch itself has a new and unique look. Its placement in the upper left corner is a little out of the ordinary, but only for right-handers.

The fingerprint sensor works with amazing speed, in addition, the device has NFC, so the smartphone supports Android Pay. Even if mobile payments do not work, it is unlikely that this will be due to 3T problems, but rather to errors in the application itself.

OnePlus 3T received a 5.5-inch optical AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. What does optical AMOLED mean? OnePlus CEO Carl Pei said that the screens supplied by Samsung are equipped with a dual polarizing layer that is tuned to deliver improved color gamut and contrast. It's always been a problem on the OnePlus 3 to adjust the screen using the basic controls, but that's changed on the 3T. The picture here looks amazing, which was difficult to achieve in the OnePlus 3. If the default settings do not suit, you can always use the custom setting from warm to cool tones.

Performance level with reactive

The main change in the OnePlus 3T is the replacement of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with the new and more powerful Snapdragon 821. RAM remains unchanged at 6GB, and while there are a few other changes, the change in processor is undoubtedly the main reason why the 3T costs more.

It's time to turn to comparative tests. Putting the 3T against the OnePlus 3 is probably the easiest way to find any differences. AnTuTu 3D on OnePlus 3 scored 44.131 points, and the same test on OnePlus 3T turns into 166.912 points. Both ran in the same environment, without third party apps, on the latest version of the most up-to-date public release of the OxygenOS shell.

That's a big difference, and it crushes just about every other smartphone. Such high rates are present in other test programs. Geekbench 4 scored 4.133 on the OnePlus 3 and 4.390 on the 3T, while a 3DMark gaming test showed the OnePlus 3 scored 2.561 while the 3T scored 2.700.

There are some other changes that won't be noticeable right away, but give noticeable benefits to the new device. For example, 3T does not heat up when under load, unlike the 3rd version, and it also has an increased battery capacity - 3.400 mAh.

OnePlus 3T camera and its software

The OnePlus 3T still has the same 16-megapixel camera as its predecessor. It has an f/2.0 aperture, optical image stabilization, HDR, and a 1.28-inch sensor. However, OnePlus has debugged the software. The pictures taken by 3T are more natural and pleasing to the eye.

When taking close-up photos, blurring the background looks very nice. When HDR was activated, shadowed areas were lit up quite well without sacrificing detail. In low light conditions, a lot of detail is revealed, although it's not quite like the iPhone 7 Plus, you won't be disappointed.

As for the front camera, the OnePlus 3T has a 16-megapixel selfie camera. The powerful sensor is not so much for selfie lovers, but for live streamers who require high-definition images. And even in low light conditions, it performs well. The front camera has a simple beauty mode and features where the sensor needs to recognize smiles and activate the shutter.

Swipe right on the sensor, in camera mode, and you will be able to access the manual settings mode, where ISO, focus, shutter speed and brightness can be adjusted to suit you. The camera software is fast and efficient.

Software and updates

The OnePlus 3T runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on the OxygenOS user interface, which slightly changes the operating system from what Google suggests. It's not a drastic change, it's closer to the way Motorola deals with Android than the heavy UI from Huawei or Samsung. Android update to version 7.0 is expected by the end of 2016, our model was with Android update from November 2016.

There are several modifications included with OxygenOS. Most notable is the "Shelf" feature, which allows you to open from the left home screen, an interface where you can find links to frequently used apps, an Android widget space, weather data, and a place to write notes. You can enable or disable this feature if you wish.

OnePlus installs its own app gallery, app file manager, music player, voice recorder, and a new Community app that gives direct access to the company's online forums. There are a lot of complaints and whining on the forums, most of which are isolated incidents, but this makes it possible to find problems on the forum if a solution was not found on the Internet.

Memory capacity and no microSD slot

Depending on which model you buy, you can get either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage, but unfortunately there's no microSD card slot to expand the storage. OnePlus decided not to go with the trend and did not add a new Dual-SIM tray feature that has the ability to use one of the memory card slots, so the 3T is strictly a dual-SIM device.

For this reason, we suggest opting for the 128GB version of the OnePlus 3T, which will last a few years given its performance before you need a replacement.

Battery life and fast charging in OnePlus 3T

While the OnePlus 3T is the same size as the OnePlus 3, it packs a larger 3,400mAh battery that lasts around a day with moderate-to-heavy usage. You can extend your battery life even more by using the feature that turns off the display of data in the background, as well as the vibrate feature.

The fast charging system works great, OnePlus claims it will charge the battery up to 60 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. Our tests showed that this was true, and we saw 60 percent in the 31st minute. A full charge was completed within an hour and 20 minutes. We have achieved the same with OnePlus 3.

Warranty, price and availability

The much hated invitation system is now a thing of the past, you can buy the OnePlus 3T through the OnePlus online store right now. The 64GB model costs $440, which is $40 more than the OnePlus 3.

OnePlus offers a good one-year warranty, defects will be repaired or a replacement device will be provided - free of charge, including shipping and handling costs. This does not cover wear or water damage. Alternatively, OnePlus offers an extended warranty plan for a year, 18 months, or two years, but that costs extra money and is only available in the US, not China.

Should You Buy OnePlus 3T?

The OnePlus 3T is powerful enough to offer a combination of high performance and style, allowing you to keep a solid piece of money in your pocket, unlike its competitors. One or two problems in the software do appear occasionally - but we hope they will be fixed in the near future. Moreover, they are not enough to cover all the advantages of this device.

The OnePlus 3T is, in our opinion, a good and powerful smartphone, without any major flaws. It's beautiful to look at, great to use, takes impressive shots, and is technically capable of being a powerful and productive device for many years to come. And all this for the price of $440 (28,000 rubles). Tempting, isn't it?
