Official Microsoft Store. Games take a very long time to load

A small task from the Windows world:

Given: gaming laptop ASUS with licensed Windows 10 and the desire to purchase a game of Microsoft Store.

Question: how much time and nerves will the user spend?

How it works on macOS

Everyone has it iPhone user, iPad or Mac has an account Apple record ID. A card is attached to it for paying for purchases, or an iTunes account has been replenished. Even those who have never linked payment cards can quickly acquire gift card and redeem her code by receiving money for purchases.

When there are enough funds on the account, go to Mac App Store, select an application or game and buy it. We will only be asked to confirm the Apple ID password.

This is how you need to help the user to part with the money!

But what about Windows

I decided to purchase the game Forza horizon 3 that passed me by in due time. I didn't think that a banal action that requires a minimum of effort in the Apple world would turn into nine circles of hell.

Payment data

This is the only process after which you do not want to spit at the monitor and frantically pound the keyboard. I have not previously made purchases with Microsoft account.

Adding a map turned out to be quick and easy. On the service website, I had to enter the data and complete the confirmation.

Windows Store is not working

The application is installed along with the operating system, but every second simply refuses to start. There are several simple procedures on the network for resetting the cache and reinstalling the program.

The most effective option is to manually start restoring the integrity of system components. This is the command to be entered into command line, but not beautiful button or an application.

After reloading some files with Microsoft servers I first saw “this” (Microsoft Store). To a comfortable and licked Mac App Store it is still very far here. It can be seen that Microsoft is working in the right direction, albeit very slowly.

Apps from Windows Store are not downloaded

It sounds like one of the most popular questions on the forum Microsoft support, and on specialized forums too. How can it be that installed system from a clean image from the company's website does not allow downloading applications from the company store out of the box?

In this case, the store opens, and when you click on the button to download, nothing happens. There was simply no reaction at all, no error with the code, no message, nothing at all.

Here are the steps I took to get the download option from the Microsoft Store:

  • Stop Windows Update Service via PowerShell (Command Prompt);
  • clear the cache of the application store by banal deletion / renaming of the folder;
  • restart the stopped service.

The service did not want to start in any way. But here at least I gave an error.

Searches led me to a problem with another service called "telnet", this Windows component is not initially installed on the system, it needs to be manually installed.

The new ornate control panel with quarter-display icons does not have this section!

Need in global search find the classic control panel and make necessary actions... Why do we need a newfangled panel if some of the actions are carried out through the classic one, which has not been cut out from the system?

After starting the control panel, you need to find the section Enabling and disabling Windows components and install the ill-fated Telnet.

When the service was installed and manually started from the Service Manager, I had to restart my computer again.

The last system requirement was to set a password account to enter the system. I learned this again not from the dialog box or notification, but on the thematic forums. Disabled the request initially Windows password at startup (I did this exclusively through the system configuration without manually editing the registry, but no one warned that the store would not work in this case).

And also the most customizable operating system does not allow you to choose a path for downloading games from your store, thanks for the fact that you were allowed to select a disk.

I received three folders on the disk, to which, as usual, I have no rights. Now I'm afraid to assign and move, so that nothing breaks.

Automatic update

Towards midnight, I overcame the system and put the purchased game on download. In the morning I decided to check the progress.

The computer ended up at the login screen.

It turns out that after the start of loading the game in Windows, several system updates... They were installed without asking, and the computer was restarted. As you remember, for the store to work, I disabled automatic login into the system and allowed the download of updates.

As a result, the store managed to download a measly 6% of the data. % ?? !! I have resumed downloading.

Games take a very long time to load

When buying a game in Windows Store it cannot be downloaded from other sources. The speed of Microsoft's servers is not at all happy. At the same time, it is suggested to download not installation image or at least some compressed data for further unpacking, and a ready-made game in size 55 GB.

For comparison, on all well-known sites, lossless images take about 40 GB. At the speed that Microsoft servers provide, the extra 15 GB would save me about 2-3 hours of time.

Why not give the user the ability to download the game from any source, and just ask for the license code upon launch?

This does not work for Microsoft, please wait until the installation from the official store is completed.

As a result, the download took me about 7 hours! I purchased a package with the original game and several official add-ons. I have not yet decided to download the latter. Apparently, this will take another 3-4 hours.

Microsoft is no better than Mail.ru

No offense to the domestic search engine, but in Lately he is very actively trying to spread through all sorts of agents, Amigo, etc. Everyone has probably come across the download of such a trash on Windows computers.

After the download from the Windows Store started, dozens of programs and games that I didn’t needed were poured onto my computer. I did not give any consent to this.

In parallel with the downloaded game, they flew to me: Disney Magic Kingdom, March of the Empire, Dolby Access and some other Game Bar, Mixed Reality Viewer, XBOX TCUI, Paint 3D and other slag.

It's useless to uninstall apps! Till windows service Store is launched, the programs themselves are downloaded to the computer again. Maybe this can be turned off, but there is no explicit setting or switch, you need to google again.

To start the game, you need the XBOX application

Another program, which is distributed through the branded application store, is needed to run purchased games. It stores the user's progress and game achievements.

It's good that I have already restored Windows health Store, because if the game could be downloaded from another source, the store would still be needed to download the XBOX program.

Again, the question is: why is it impossible to allow local data storage for those who do not want to transfer their progress to the cloud and do not require the installation of a stupid application? With a single gaming machine, this is simply not necessary.

And now you also need to update the drivers

While the embedded system Windows updates 10 is able to search and update drivers for installed equipment, she did not find fresh driver required to start the game.

The Microsoft Store was launched as the primary app store in Windows 8, but quickly became the main platform for distributing all kinds of content for Windows 10 as well.

Microsoft Store is digital store for Windows users... It offers all kinds of digital content to download in one place, some apps are free, others are paid.

Originally known as the Windows Store, the store was renamed Microsoft Store in 2017 to keep pace with the suspended Windows Phone Store for Windows applications Phone. Microsoft Store, however, is the same as the name existing network real retail stores offering computers, software and consumer electronics.

Microsoft Store is included by default in Windows 10. Go to the menu " Start»And search for keyword"Store" to find the Microsoft Store app. Or you can click on the store icon representing the bag located on.

If you are not using Microsoft Account Logon in Windows 10, you can still browse and install most of the free apps. But you will need to be logged in to download paid content... You can also browse the Microsoft Store website for more items.

When you open the Microsoft Store, you will see the home page. She announces discounts, new apps and the like.

If you are interested in certain type content, use the tabs at the top to navigate to a specific category. Otherwise, you can use the search function in the upper right corner to find what you are looking for.

Most of the features should be familiar to anyone who has used another app store. You will see short description and rating at the top of each page of the app, as well as screenshots related to the program and reviews below on the page. The store also shows which devices the app works on, and some work on Xbox one or Microsoft HoloLens.

To download free app, just click " Receive". Paid ones will require you to sign in to your Microsoft account and use the payment form that you set up. After downloading the program, you will find it in the menu " Start».

What's available in the Windows Store?

Don't assume that only apps are available in the store. Microsoft has collected many of its services in one place in the following categories:

  1. Applications.
  2. Games - The store contains games that you can play on your smartphone, as well as a variety of games that are compatible with Xbox One. Thanks to the Xbox Play Anywhere service, you can buy them once and play on both platforms.
  3. Devices as well as hardware available, including devices Microsoft Surface, mixed reality glasses, Xbox controllers and more.
  4. Movies and TV Content - You can buy individual episodes or entire seasons of TV shows.
  5. Books - you can buy books and read them with Edge browser on your desktop or phone.
  6. Extensions for Edge - Microsoft Edge supports a small number of extensions compared to its competitors, but still has them.

Before the Store offered music through the Microsoft Groove Music service, it was not supported anywhere else. Microsoft now recommends using Spotify.

Are there advantages to downloading apps from the Windows Store?

You may be wondering if you will benefit from always downloading the software you need from this store. The answer to this question depends on your needs and specific applications which you are using, but there are cases where it is definitely worth it:

  1. Easy to install - you don't need to search specific page where you can download software from, or worry about getting on fake websites with all your apps in one place.
  2. Automatic updates.
  3. Enhanced security. Microsoft validates security apps and utility apps before publishing them to the store.

Does the Microsoft Store have fake apps?

Microsoft Store had a huge problem with unreal for a while, fake apps... When searching popular programs like VLC or iTunes, there have been dozens of deceptive apps that cost money. Fortunately, this problem has largely disappeared and the Microsoft Store is now much safer. However, this does not mean the absence of malware, so be careful. Don't download an app without first reading reviews for it and checking its creator online. Also, be careful with the permissions you want to download for apps.

Microsoft Store menu

Press the three-dot button " Menu"In the right upper corner Microsoft applications Store to find some options. Select " Downloads & Updates»To check availability latest versions your applications. The store will update them automatically in background but it would be a good idea to check in person from time to time.

In the settings, you can turn off automatic app updates, turn off password protection for purchases, and more. A " My library»Allows you to check all your applications and games installed on your system or ready to install.

  • Useful programs for Windows 10

Hello everyone. I recently installed a brand new Windows 10 build 1709 for myself, and there are some programs I don't know about. One of them is the Microsoft Store. In this issue I will try to find out what it is and write to you about it. simple language, agreed? So the Microsoft Store is a type of store where you can buy and download a metro application. I think there is free programs... This store appeared in Windows 8. It seems that the Microsoft Store will also be available and regular programs, that is, not the metro, but I’m just reading that it’s in development.

That is, everything is clear, Microsoft Store is an application store, something like Google play for Android. The store has Top applications, there are Collections, Top games, Collections, there are even some. I see that you can download applications such as Telegram, Instagram, Viber on your computer, there are all kinds of games, in short, the store is not bad.

So guys, here's my Start Menu and here's where I see the Microsoft Store program:

I opened this application, this is the type of store:

Scrolled down a bit:

So I went to the Applications section (sections above):

And here is the section of the game:

When I first launched the store, it was open Homepage =)

In the upper right corner there is a button (three dots) of this type of menu:

There is access to the settings here, there is some kind of My library, there are Downloads and updates. The last one I pressed, as a result, the following list appeared:

As I understand it, you can get updates here, there is a button in the upper right corner, although I will not press it. But I selected the Settings item:

Do you see these balls in the center? Well, in short, it’s doing something there, I don’t know what, but it’s spinning like that all the time. So, in the settings there is an option to disable automatic update applications. You can turn it off so that the store does not load the computer too much. And if necessary, then you can calmly manually update everything that is necessary =) Guys, I selected the item My library, here's what I have here:

Well, that is, nothing particularly interesting. Okay, now let's see what we have in the dispatcher, I open it:

And here's what I see:

It turns out that the Runtime Broker is also involved in the work of the store. For interest clicked right click on the Microsoft Store, I wanted to see where it starts from:

A window appeared and a message that I didn’t have any rights, but I clicked on Continue:

In the end, it's still a bummer:

Yes, an unpleasant situeishin .. = (

But I again in the manager right-clicked on the Microsoft Store and already selected the Properties item:

And such a window has already appeared:

Here we at least see that the program is being launched from this folder:

C: \ Program Files \ WindowsApps

We see that the program weighs about 50 megs. By the way, it was still not possible to enter the WindowsApps folder, I think it's all the same because of the rights. This is such security. I think that you can muddle something up with the rights and it will turn out to enter the folder, but again, something seems to me that this should not be done, let the folder be closed, I think for a reason.

While still in the manager, I clicked again on the Microsoft Store and selected the Details item, and saw that the application was running under the WinStore.App.exe process:

WinStore.App.exe is launched from this folder:

C: \ Program Files \ WindowsApps \ Microsoft.WindowsStore_11709.1001.27.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

Judging by the name of the folder, you will probably have a different set of characters at the end. Now about how to uninstall Microsoft Store. Guys, I may be wrong, but it seems to me that it is almost impossible to delete. Well, think for yourself, this is an app store. And there is also a function for updating metro apps. I think that without a store, these metro applications will work strangely or won't work at all.

In general, I wrote like, here I have working system, this is Windows 10 LTSB and this store is not here. For example, I called up a search and drove the Microsoft Store into it:

You see, he writes that no results were found, the store was cut here =) And so, in general, I like LTSB, it is very stable, there are no glitches at all, it works like a clock, so I can even say I advise.

That's all gentlemen, I sincerely hope that you learned what the Microsoft Store is. Good luck and make you happy, okay ?!
