Samsung Galaxy A7 Review – The best mid-ranger with flagship features. Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) review — a step back under the guise of innovation

Consumer reviews will help you navigate the choice of a new gadget. "Samsung A7" is the oldest model in the line of metal smartphones of the Korean manufacturer. It has a pleasant laconic design, a powerful processor and many other positive characteristics.

A bit about the "A" series

The senior device in its line is the Samsung Galaxy A7 phone. Reviews note that the positioning of this series cannot be called obvious. If you look at the characteristics of the devices, you can understand that they do not claim to be at the top level. So, A7 falls short of the popular S5, even though it is a little outdated. The "A" line is much simpler, besides, its devices are less productive. Thus, it is no longer a "state employee", but not yet a "flagship".

In the "A" series, the main emphasis is on the image component. Instead of the usual plastic, high-quality aluminum is used in the manufacture of the case. If we talk about the "Samsung A7", reviews, photos are proof that he, like a twin brother, is similar to the younger devices of this series. The external difference is only in size. However, in terms of performance, it is far ahead of them.

Characteristics

Will help to appreciate the smartphone "Samsung A7" characteristics. Reviews, of course, give an objective assessment, but "dry" data can be useful. You should know the following about this machine:

  • 2 Nano SIM cards;
  • operating system - Android;
  • 2 GB of RAM;
  • 16 GB internal memory;
  • expandable memory up to 64 GB;
  • weight - 141 grams;
  • non-removable battery with a capacity of 2600 mAh;
  • screen diagonal - 5.5 inches;
  • capacitive touch panel;
  • Qualcomm MSM8939 processor;
  • 8 cores;
  • main 13-megapixel camera;
  • front 5-megapixel camera;
  • non-separable metal case;
  • light sensors, proximity, accelerometer.

Appearance

A lot of interesting information about this smartphone contains reviews. "Samsung A7" looks the same as the two younger models of this line. The exception is the screen diagonal, which has reached 5.5 inches. Below the display is a mechanical home key, as well as a pair of touch buttons. Above the screen is a corporate logo, a speaker, a camera eye, as well as proximity and light sensors. Like most smartphones from Samsung, this device does not have an event indicator, which is a definite drawback.

The front panel is decorated with a small dotted pattern. You can only notice it on closer inspection, but such an idea coolly refreshes the design. As in all other Galaxy smartphones, the volume key is on the left side, and the power button is on the right. There are also two slots with key holes. The bottom one is for the main SIM card. The top slot can be used for a second SIM card or for memory expansion.

The thoughtful design of the device is noted by reviews. "Samsung A7" received a top face free from any buttons and connectors. It only has a microphone hole. The headphone and charger jack is located on the bottom. There is also an additional hole for the microphone. The back panel, traditionally, is equipped with a camera (the peephole protrudes slightly above the surface of the lid), a flash and an external speaker. There is also a corporate logo.

This smartphone model is presented in three shades. White has a pleasant pearly sheen. Black color can not be called bright and clean. It is characterized by blue-gray notes. The gold version is more like bronze. The case is assembled with high quality.

Material Features

Despite the fact that the Samsung A7 is completely metal, owner reviews note that hands do not feel the pleasant chill inherent in aluminum. The fact is that all the edges are tightly covered with a special plastic coating. Thus, purely outwardly, the device looks as plastic as the phones of cheaper series. But, thanks to the matte finish, the gadget fits comfortably in the hand and does not slip. But the chamfers of the side faces are not painted over, and therefore there is both a metallic sheen and a pleasant characteristic chill.

Screen Features

A lot of useful information about the smartphone contains reviews. "Samsung A7" is equipped with a screen made using the Super AMOLED system. Its diagonal is 5.5 inches, which will appeal to fans of games, videos and just viewing beautiful pictures. Users are spared the need to stick a film or glass on the screen, because it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is one of the most modern.

Brightness adjustment range from 14 to 237 cd/sq. m. may seem insufficient. Nevertheless, for screens of this type, this is quite a decent indicator. Given the presence of a light sensor, it is possible to use the automatic mode for adjusting the backlight intensity. In addition, the brightness of the screen may vary depending on which picture is being displayed.

Samsung Galaxy A7 is characterized by excellent factory settings. Reviews note that the screen is perfectly calibrated and does not need additional adjustment. However, you can always customize the color reproduction for yourself. Both ultra-bright shades can be set, as well as a more natural picture, which is formed by the PenTile system. The special arrangement of pixels eliminates the graininess and "looseness" of the image.

As one of the most important advantages of the Samsung Galaxy A7, reviews note a high-quality oleophobic coating. It protects the screen from ugly fingerprints. But the main drawback is that the screen is very blind in bright sunlight. The touchscreen supports up to 10 simultaneous touches, which will certainly appeal to gamers. A pleasant moment will be the presence of an option, the inclusion of which allows you to control your smartphone with gloves.

Undoubtedly, the advantage of the screen of this device are excellent viewing angles. The picture does not "blind" and is not distorted even with a strong deviation. However, the white color takes on a greenish tint. But this will only be noticeable upon close examination.

Sound

One of the most popular devices today is the Samsung Galaxy A7. Reviews note excellent sound quality. The smartphone is quite loud, and therefore you will hear it on the street, in transport and even from a bag. The speaker is saturated with a wide spectrum of frequencies. At the same time, even at maximum volume, the sound is not distorted. This applies not only to the external, but also to the conversational dynamics. The voice of the interlocutor will always be clear and recognizable, you can make out the timbre and even intonation.

Special attention should be paid to playing audio files through headphones. The sound quality is at the highest level and does not lag behind the flagship models. An additional advantage can be considered a branded player, which has a lot of settings to improve sound quality. SoundAlive effects make the melody more realistic and pleasant to the ear. A nice addition will be the presence of a huge number of visual images that accompany playback.

Hardware component

Many users have already tested the Samsung A7-2016. Reviews note good performance. The device runs on the Android operating system. Comfortable use is provided by the proprietary TouchWiz shell. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm platform. The 8-core processor is divided into 2 blocks that operate at different frequencies. All these features ensure fast and trouble-free operation of the system.

cameras

Managed to win the popularity of users of such a device as "Samsung A7-2016". Reviews note the good quality of the cameras. The main one (13 megapixels) takes good photos, as for a device of the middle price category. In the daytime, autofocus works smoothly, but at dusk you can run into a number of problems.

The settings menu is quite extensive. At the same time, it is convenient and understandable. The menu is divided into several different cells, each of which is responsible for adjusting a specific function. If you have to change a certain setting item often enough, you can create a shortcut for it, which will be located in the shooting area. No wonder the camera application in Samsung devices is considered one of the best among those on the market at the moment.

Unfortunately, despite all the advantages, the camera of this device lags far behind the flagship samples. The lack of optical stabilization, the ability to selectively focus, and the speeding up or slowing down of the video significantly affect the final result. In addition, no innovations in terms of modes are also provided here.

Based on a user analysis of pictures taken on the Samsung Galaxy A7 2016 smartphone, the reviews note the following:

  • in the upper corners of the frame, sharpness is noticeably reduced;
  • clear shooting of distant plans;
  • no noise;
  • clear shadows;
  • small details are poorly processed;
  • excellent macro quality;
  • clear text capture.

As for the front 5-megapixel camera, it takes good selfies. But, given the lack of an LED flash, you can only count on good quality selfies in the daytime. Selfie lovers will appreciate the fact that pictures can be taken using gestures or voice commands. Also a positive point can be considered the possibility of shooting a wide-angle selfie, thanks to which more friends can be placed in one picture.

Telephone part

Considering the wide possibilities of a smartphone, one should not forget about the telephone part of the Samsung Galaxy A7 device. Owner reviews positively evaluate the possibility of working in the LTE Cat4 network. As for the phone application, it is worth noting the clear drawing of letters and numbers. The keypad is quite large, and therefore it is convenient to dial a number with both miniature female and large male fingers. If necessary, the digital block can be reduced to operate it with one hand. The ability to move the keyboard from side to side will be an added advantage for lefties.

As in other Samsung devices, the Smart Dial application works in this smartphone. Its usefulness lies in the fact that when dialing a number, a search is automatically performed in the list of contacts. As for the text keyboard, the continuous dialing feature will be useful.

Work with two SIM cards is conveniently organized. They can be controlled through the notification curtain. Any SIM card can be assigned as the main one. Any of them can work with 3G (LTE) networks, but not simultaneously. This is due to the fact that only one radio module is installed in the smartphone.

autonomy

The battery capacity is not the largest - 2600 mAh. Given the screen size, this is not enough for a long battery life. However, in reality, the battery performed well. Given that the smartphone's processor is not the most productive, the charge is spent quite economically. So, in the continuous talk mode, the device should work for 17 hours, and in the mode of using wireless Internet - 13 hours. Continuous reading in the FBReader program at a comfortable brightness level can last up to 22 hours. Fans of watching videos can enjoy the smartphone for 12 hours. But in the 3D gaming mode, the battery runs out quickly - in less than 4 hours.

To prolong battery life, you can turn on the extreme power saving mode, which is equipped with almost all Samsung smartphones. It implies the transition of the screen to a monochrome (black and white) state. In addition, all applications and functions will be disabled, except for vital ones.

2016 version

Based on the experience of using a smartphone, work was done on the bugs, which resulted in the release of a new version of the smartphone "Samsung A7 2016". Owner reviews note major improvements. The following points can be considered the most significant:

  • an updated design that makes the device look like flagship devices;
  • only the side frames are made of aluminum, and the front and rear panels are covered with durable protective glass;
  • a fingerprint scanner is built into the mechanical button;
  • touch keys received a pleasant backlight;
  • the bezels around the screen have been significantly reduced, which allows the smartphone to be more compact;
  • the amount of RAM has been increased to 3 GB;
  • internal memory can be expanded up to 128 GB;
  • operating system - Android 5.1.1;
  • battery capacity increased to 3300 mAh;
  • fast charging support;
  • missed event indicator.

Positive reviews

A lot of fans have such a device as the smartphone "Samsung A7". Reviews contain a lot of positive information. The main advantages of the device can be considered the following:

  • good image quality (juicy colors, lack of graininess, excellent viewing angles);
  • comfortable headphones included;
  • side buttons have a fairly smooth pressure and a nice design;
  • there is an automatic brightness control, depending on the level of illumination;
  • a large number of camera settings, which allows you to take pictures of excellent quality;
  • excellent sound reproduction quality (both through external speaker and headphones)
  • convenient grouping of contacts in the phone book.

Negative Feedback

Such an impeccable, at first glance, device as the Samsung A7 is not without flaws. Customer reviews contain such negative comments:

  • the phone is too sensitive to drops and shocks (it breaks down almost immediately);
  • no protection against water, despite the fact that the case is all-metal;
  • when you run several applications at the same time, the device starts to get very hot;
  • you have to choose between the ability to install a second SIM card and a memory card;
  • insufficient internal memory;
  • the main camera protrudes strongly above the back cover, and therefore its edging is quickly scratched;
  • it is inconvenient that the audio output and the USB cable connector are located too close;
  • Missing events indicator is missing;
  • weak non-removable battery;
  • the case is quickly scratched if you use the device without a case;
  • unreasonably high cost (a metal case covered with plastic coating is not worth overpaying for it).

In 2017, the famous South Korean technology manufacturer Samsung decided to update its line of mid-range smartphones. It turned out they, I must say, quite well. Phones that previously fairly reliably occupied the middle niche in the mobile technology market, after the update, began to claim the role of budget flagships of a higher level. Let's see what characteristics the so-called older model of the A-series offers - Samsung Galaxy A7 2017.

Main characteristics

First of all, it should be noted that the older model assumes the greatest and best technological “package”. However, the developers did not spoil us much. The package bundle of the 2017 A7 model is very slightly superior to its younger counterpart - the updated Samsung Galaxy A5. The main differences are battery capacity and, of course, screen size. Well, what else, in fact, smartphones measure.

Frame

Quite noticeable is the fact that the Koreans sought to bring the A-line as close as possible to their more luxurious relatives of the S-series. The design of the updated A7 is in many ways similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 - rounded edges, glass upholstery, minimalism, identical key layout and speaker. However, such imitation does not harm the appearance of the phone at all, but, on the contrary, gives it a more elegant and stylish look.

  • The case of the updated model is covered with glass on both sides. The front is protected by 2.5D glass while the back is protected by a 3D coating. The edges are framed by an elegant metal rim.
  • The phone measures 156.8 x 77.6mm and is almost 7.9mm thick. Weight is 144 g.
  • The phone is available in several color variations: standard black, elegant gold, baby blue and pale pink.

Technical filling

Of course, even the updated A7 cannot compete in performance with the luxury analogue of the Samsung Galaxy S7. However, one has only to remember what niche the smartphone was designed for. Galaxy A7 2017 is a good candidate for the flagship among mid-range phones, so its technical characteristics are quite decent.

It has a more powerful eight-core Exynos 7880 processor with a clock speed of 1.9 GHz compared to the version of that year. Graphics lies on the “shoulders” of the three-core Mali-T830 chip.

Initially, Android version 6.0 Marshmallow is installed on the phone, but the developers guarantee software updates to the next “sweetie” - Android 7.0 Nougat.

The user interface of the local sixth android uses the Grace UI graphical shell. Which, as you know, promises its users the ability to work in multi-window mode.

The processor of the new Galaxy A7 shows relatively good data when working with almost all tasks However, for resource-intensive programs, for example, for demanding games, the settings will have to be launched with lower graphic parameters.
GPU test shows very good results At the same level, the results of the performance test of the updated processor
On other tests, the device produces similar numbers.

Screen

The 2017 version of the Samsung Galaxy A7 pleases us with an extended Super AMOLED screen of 5.7 inches. The display resolution is 1080 x 1920 pixels per inch. Agree, a very standard feature for modern smartphones. However, the big plus is that the screen takes up about two-thirds of the entire front of the phone. The rest of the minimum falls on the mechanical control button “Home”, touch invisible “Return” and “Applications”, as well as the speaker, front camera, proximity sensor and the famous Samsung inscription.

It is important to note that the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 has a screen calibration menu with a certain set of modes. Each of them demonstrates an impressive 100% color space coverage. Temperature, gamma and backlight also show extremely pleasing results.

The samsung galaxy a7 has a fairly accurate and detailed screen calibration
The screen shows a very rich black color and a smooth transition of tones.

You can easily adjust the saturation and color reproduction of the display to your taste. You have several standard screen color modes to choose from.

Among other things, the new version of the Galaxy A7 boasts a much-requested blue color filter. This option inverts screen colors to warmer, autumnal hues, which relieves eye strain and reduces the risk of visual impairment from frequent use of high-contrast “glowing screens”.

In addition, we can not but rejoice that the screen is behind 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4, which guarantees protection from scratches, dust, dirt and even the ubiquitous fingerprints.

In general, the developers did their best to make the phone the most pleasing to your eyes. And they succeeded quite well.

Connection

Like other models in the series, the Galaxy A7 2017 gives its owners the opportunity to use two SIM cards simultaneously. An additional convenience of the phone is that you can use a flash drive along with SIM cards. The slot for it is located in one of the compartments with nano-sim. Yes, the developers have allocated their own space for microSD, so you won’t have to give up one of the SIM cards in favor of extra gigabytes, as was the case with last year’s models. We will not talk about the fact that the very decision to place not a flash drive, but a second SIM card in a separate compartment, is very interesting.

The developers took care of optimizing the use of SIM cards

Now the smartphone has separate slots for both SIM cards and a memory card, which is very convenient.

Memory

As for the available space on the phone, here the updated version has undergone some changes. The phone's RAM remained at the same level - 3 GB, but the built-in memory has doubled and now stands at 32 GB against 16 GB in last year's version. If we take into account the space that system files occupy, the available space in general, of course, will be several gigabytes less. However, in this case, you can use microSD. Now the fresh Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 supports flash cards up to 256 GB instead of last year's 128 GB. So even the most kilobyte-expensive users will not be offended.

Battery

Now, a fresh brainchild of the South Korean developer has a more powerful Li-Po battery - 3600 mAh against last year's 3300 mAh. In addition, the phone has the Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging feature. Due to it, the manufacturer promises to reduce the time spent on battery recovery to one and a half hours.

In offline mode, your phone will work as much as 380 hours (which, in terms of a day, promises us an incredible almost 16 days). In talk mode, the device will work 18 hours, listening to music can last up to 48 hours, and watching videos - up to 9. But there is still no wireless charging in the phone. Even despite the fact that this is the older model of the line.

Other "goodies"

The smartphone also supports the Always On Display function, which means that notifications, clock and date are displayed on its screen even in inactive mode.

You no longer have to keep turning your phone on and checking for notifications. Now all important alerts (as well as clock, calendar, etc.) are visible even when offline

This option consumes little energy, but looks quite stylish

The updated line of smartphones Samsung Galaxy A this year boasts that its body is made according to the IP68 standard and is now reliably protected from moisture and dust. You can quite easily wet your phone in the pouring rain or even drop it into huge puddles of one and a half meters. Yes, yes, this is not a joke. The fresh version of the Galaxy A7 can withstand up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1.5 meters.

Once upon a time, such photos could only be taken in Photoshop.

Also in this year's models, a modern two-way USB Type-C port is installed. Now you do not need to waste time and nerves on endless attempts to get into the charger connector with the right side. You can successfully insert the usb cable into the socket with your eyes closed and in complete darkness.

A two-way USB input seems like an incredible convenience, doesn't it?

One-hand operation is one of the assistant options that make using the phone easier and more comfortable. This feature allows you to triple-click the Home button to activate the one-handed control mode, in which the active windows are shifted to one side of the display.

Perfect for both right-handers and left-handers (and even more so for ambidexters)

Smart capture is another such feature that makes it easier to work with screenshots.

The fingerprint scanner. However, we advise you to be careful with this option, because, despite the fact that the sensor itself is quite responsive, it requires quite careful settings. Don't be discouraged if your device doesn't recognize all your touches at first, and just try calibrating the scanner again.

In general, the applications and functions installed in this version largely duplicate the sets of other Sumsung models: the standard Galaxy Apps, the S Health fitness program, the Samsung Members online support service, of course, the S Voice voice assistant and much more. So, if you've had experience with other versions of South Korean phones, a lot of things will seem familiar to you.

The main and front cameras are another nice thing

The smartphone camera gives its users a rather strong 16 megapixels for both the main camera and the front one. Yes, the front camera on the Galaxy A7 2017 is no worse than the main lens. The aperture on both sides is F / 1.9, the focal length is 27 mm. The lens is equipped with autofocus and, of course, a flash. Compared to the model of that year, the current camera produces more working pixels, but the smartphone has lost a rather important option - optical image stabilization. A small problem quite noticeably follows from this: during the day you can take quite good pictures with excellent photosensitivity and detail without any problems, but in the late afternoon, when natural light is replaced by artificial light, noise and noticeable blurring appear. The deterioration of the picture is accompanied by an increasing focusing time.

Daytime shots give decent quality without hazy spots and overexposure
The camera shows excellent and smooth light transmission
Example of a panoramic shot taken in daylight

The camera of the new Galaxy A7 often sins with overexposure and the so-called dip in the dark - such moments of shooting when there is a light source in the background of the frame and the foreground turns black. However, the developers guessed to solve this problem by adding HDR mode to the camera settings, which allows you to brighten dark (failed) places and darken excessively light areas.

The panorama mode, as you can see in the photo above, does an excellent job of merging shots and produces quite a decent detailed result with a minimum of noise. However, you should not expect such indicators at twilight and at night.

The quality of shooting in the evening leaves much to be desired. Noises appear, and detail drops. However, color rendition and tone transitions are still at the level

The same can be said about shooting indoors. If the lighting is insufficient and dim, the quality of the images is noticeably reduced, the detailing drops. And in order to get a clear and unblurred photo, you have to take more than one or even two shots. Again, optical stabilization would have helped a lot in this situation. After all, in dim lighting, the phone's camera automatically increases the exposure period, and then any small flinch of the hand will come out blurred sideways. Stabilization could somehow smooth this moment, but it is not in the 2017 version.

To get clear shots, you have to train yourself Try to hold the phone tighter and look for a fulcrum for your hands, then your pictures even indoors will be clear and detailed

Of course, a firm grip on the phone and a foothold won't help with night shooting. The phone just isn't designed for it.

Taking a picture at night, even with the Night mode set on the phone, does not give the best result.

But indoor selfies come out quite decent. The resolution of the matrix of the front camera is not inferior to the main lens - the same 16 megapixels. However, the tasks on it are much simpler: portrait shooting at close range. In addition, the front camera, like the rear camera, has its own flash. As it, the creators of the updated version of the Galaxy A7 decided to use soft white lighting from the phone screen.

Thanks to the soft lighting from the screen of the phone, selfies, even in a dim room, are detailed and not blurry.

True, some users complain that the front camera blurs everything that is further than one meter from it. Those. taking a selfie against the background of something far away or large will initially be difficult for you.

Among other things, the video is recorded here in Full HD resolution. And now we must remember that even last year's version of the luxury Galaxy S7 had the ability to shoot videos in 4K resolution. And optical stabilization was available to the outdated Galaxy A7 2016. This suggests that despite the improved parameters of the processor, memory, battery and other things, the camera, on the contrary, began to work worse. The number of pixels has increased, but this cannot compensate for the lack of optical stabilization. And if during the day the camera produces quite a decent picture quality, then in the late afternoon and even more so at night, it is better to replace the phone with its analogue of last year.

Would you like a convenient, functional and relatively inexpensive smartphone, and even a well-known brand? If yes, then we recommend paying attention to the Samsung A7 2017. The device for 20,000 rubles offers the current configuration, which is represented by an eight-core processor and 3 GB of RAM, together with a fairly powerful graphics chip. Such hardware allows you to use the device for a huge number of modern applications, as well as games. As for the cameras, they take pretty good pictures, although they do not have optical stabilization. And the matrix is equipped with high-quality color reproduction and large viewing angles. In general, we will recommend the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 for a more detailed and intimate acquaintance.

In contact with

Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 is the top representative of the popular line of the South Korean electronics manufacturer. On its own, Samsung's A-series is very successful. And all because the manufacturer managed to convince users that a good smartphone is not about gigahertz and megapixels. The main thing is that it be of high quality, pleasant to use and not buggy. In the 2017 line, they added moisture protection, honed the design, in general, it became very good.

Equipment

I got the device for the test without a kit. In general, without everything - only a pipe. However, I dug up the information on the Internet (thanks to the official video of the DNS store) and here is what awaits domestic users in the box:

  • USB Type-C cable
  • adapter from USB Type-C to Micro USB
  • 2A output current charger supporting Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging
  • wired headset
  • Supporting documentation

An adapter is needed for one function. To connect a new device to an old one (perhaps with a Micro USB connector) and painlessly transfer all information over the cable. The device allows you to do this at the initial setup stage.

Design

The body of the novelty has become quite streamlined. There is not a single sharp corner, smooth, rounded lines and transitions are everywhere. This is neither good nor bad. Just a fact. Each new generation should have some kind of design zest, and so it happened this time.

At the ends we have a metal side, tempered glass Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front, and glass on the back, however, it is not known for certain which one.

I especially liked that the 2.5D glass is very rounded and rests directly on the metal case. There is no plastic side, everything is perfectly fitted to each other and it feels great when you take the smartphone in your hand.

The surface has an oleophobic coating, but it still very quickly collects all the fat traces of the fingers. This is especially critical for the back side. Such is the retribution for the glossy and sunbeamed case.

Before rubbing

I liked that the camera lens was rolled up flush with the main surface, now it doesn’t stick out a bit. On the contrary, even slightly concave inward.

In general, we have a desert behind us - a small camera eye, next to it is a single-tone flash and a little the name of the manufacturer. Perhaps it is stylish and concise, but, as for me, it looks rustic. The device for $ 500 lacks some zest.

In general, the front of the smartphone looks much better. And by the way, if you take it, then only the black version. In this coloring, the smartphone looks simply gorgeous. It is especially pleasant that the “Samsung” inscription on the front panel is practically invisible, and besides, in the off state, the borders of the frequency screen merge with the case and, together with the Always On Display function, it all looks just fiery!

Other available colors include light blue and gold. Let's see how it looks, agree with me about the black color.

A pink version is also found in nature, but we do not plan to sell it.

In the design, I personally am a little embarrassed by two points: the weight and thickness of the case. The smartphone seems to be thin, but if you compare it with competitors (I had iPhone 6 Plus and ), you feel that such an impressive coffin lies in your hands.

In addition, the device is quite heavy. Not to say that it is critical. You quickly get used to it and do not notice any weightiness, however, if you start comparing, then ... well, you understand.

On the other hand, it is A7 buyers who know what they are getting into. They need a smartphone with a large screen, and this is fraught with an increase in size and there can be no question of any compactness. Excuse me!

On the other hand, look at the dimensions of a direct competitor in the face of the iPhone 6S Plus. Here the screen is smaller (5.5 inches), and the body dimensions are larger (longer, wider, heavier). Here we draw conclusions.

The volume buttons are located on the left side. Right-handed people will feel a little uncomfortable at first.

From the interesting: the slot for SIM-cards is divided into two independent parts. One tray for Nano "SIM" and a memory card is on top, the second (only for Nano SIM-cards) won a place on the left side.

The design is original, but the user does not have to choose between the second SIM card and an increase in internal memory. This is a great boon!

The external speaker is located here in an even more original place. It is located on the right side above the power button.

And if the smartphone is on the table or you hold it vertically with one hand, then no problem. However, now you want to watch a movie directly from your phone, turn the device over and hold it with both hands. So the index finger is placed exactly on the speaker holes, thereby, the sound is muffled. We have to look for a less comfortable option to capture.

The speaker is average in terms of playback quality - there are quite a few devices on the market that play better than the A7, but there are even more lower-quality speakers. In terms of volume, too, no revelation. I would even say that the speaker is rather weak, the volume level is below the average “in the hospital”. Missing a call on a noisy street costs nothing.

The touch keys are located on the body next to the physical home button and have a clear, bright moonlight backlight. It is impossible to adjust its time or intensity, which is a pity, because it is very short. Attaching additional functionality or swapping keys is also prohibited, however, as well as activating the vibration response when you press them. We get used to what is, or we put additional, third-party software.

There is a one-hand control mode. It turns on in the menu, you need to press the "Home" button three times. Not very comfortable, but you get used to it.

I liked that you can quickly launch the camera at any time - just double-tap the Home button and in a second the viewfinder is ready to shoot. This is important, because street scenes evaporate very quickly.

One of the key features of the updated A line is the presence of protection against moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard. It involves swimming with a smartphone in fresh water at a depth of up to 1.5 meters and for 30 minutes.

Despite the fact that the connectors are not externally protected in any way, they are still not afraid of moisture. However, I still wouldn't recommend using headphones or plugging in a USB-C cable right after a shower. It is better to wait a couple of hours until the smartphone is completely dry.

The fingerprint scanner

The sensor is built right into the home button. It's hardware here (you need to press it). However, to unlock the device, you just need to touch your finger - the sensor is always on the lookout and ready to read the print.

I am extremely negative about devices that require you to press a button to unlock them, and not just touch them. After all, it's inconvenient! Why don't manufacturers understand this?

For me, the reference fingerprint sensor is set to /. The speed of reading the fingerprint and unlocking the smartphone rolls over. Something in the region of 0.2 or even 0.1 seconds. In addition, a finger can be applied to absolutely any side, carelessly and not accurately - everything is recognized correctly.

The Galaxy A7 sensor is not as fast and accurate. Yes, it reads well, but quite often the system reports that it is impossible to recognize the print. You need to attach your finger again, more carefully and as centered as possible. The smartphone does not forgive negligence. However, if you moved to the A7 from the same iPhone 6, then the scanner work will seem fantastic for you. Everything is relative.

Of course, the scanner has additional functionality. For example, you can set up Samsung Pay payment (I’ll tell you about it separately) or set up authorization on sites using a fingerprint. Bundles of logins and passwords will be immediately entered into the necessary forms, you just need to put your finger on the scanner. This is very convenient, but it only works through the built-in browser. Chrome does not support this function, I use it (cross-platform rules!), So this functionality was not useful to me.

Blocking individual applications with a fingerprint is possible only through a PIN code and a "Secure Folder". I will talk about this in the software chips section.

Display

Gorgeous, large, juicy Super AMOLED screen. In principle, this is all you need to know about this rather important smartphone node.

Is it worth mentioning the Always On Display function. This is a really useful feature that should be adopted by other manufacturers. The bottom line is that you can set it so that the necessary information always glows on the screen: time, date, notification icons, a calendar, and even some pretty drawing on the background.

The screen in this case never goes out, consumes negligible energy. After all, we are dealing with an AMOLED matrix, the pixels of which do not display black. If you set the font to black and white, then the power consumption will be even less.

Most "amoleds" sin with high contrast and oversaturated colors. This has been almost always the case, and really high-quality screens (without these "childhood" diseases) began to appear in Samsung devices starting with the Galaxy S6. Now the colors have calmed down, the "greenery" has practically disappeared, the screen at extreme viewing angles has ceased to shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow. We look at how it looks in the example of comparison with (in the photo it is from below or on the right).

As you can see, we have two excellent screens. However, in my opinion, 1 + 3T is a little ahead due to a slightly more pleasant color reproduction of faces. You can notice this not immediately, and only with a direct comparison.

The oleophobic coating is also of high quality, befitting a flagship device. The margin of brightness is such that in the dark with the backlight turned to the maximum, I think you can go blind. From here we observe the excellent behavior of the screen in the sun.

In general, everything is just fine with the display! Samsung here gave even more than I expected. Still, we are not analyzing the flagship, you never know.

And the battery is larger, and the processor is faster, and the display is more interesting - there are so many improvements that, if you ask yourself a question of choice, then it's worth buying, and therefore overpaying.

A little more about the brand new Exynos 7 7880 processor. In the manufacturer’s internal lineup, this “stone” is in third place after the top-end Exynos 9 (8895), which will be installed in the Galaxy S8, as well as after Exynos 8 (8890), which is used in current more flagships of the company (and S7 Edge).

This chipset was built on a 14nm process (previous 28nm) and consumes 36 percent less power than the previous generation while maintaining the same level of performance.

In addition, the system-on-a-chip includes a new LTA Cat. 7, therefore, we can expect a data transfer rate for downloading within 300 Mbps, and for uploading up to 100 Mbps. And the updated modem also supports much more frequencies, therefore, there will be no problems in roaming with a fast connection.

The new "stone" also implies an updated graphic component. The Mali-T830 MP3 video accelerator supports H.265 codec decoding (4K video at 30 fps), huge image processing (up to 21.7 MP) and so on.

Performance

Testing the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017), I caught myself thinking that I was completely uninterested in what the smartphone had “under the hood”. What processor does it have, what video accelerator and how many RAM are installed.

The experience with this device is similar to how we use and choose the iPhone. A purely consumer attitude of the type "So that everything works as it should, without tension and brakes." I'll explain with an example.

Most smartphone owners know what chipset is inside, how much “RAM” and what generation it is. Moreover, all these people chose this device, solely because of the top-end, productive hardware.

And here is the contrast. 90 percent of iPhone 6 / 6S / 7 owners have no idea at what frequency the processor installed inside is running. No, someone once heard that some powerful chipset was installed inside, one of the last, it seems, but this is where all the knowledge ends. People use it and don’t blow their heads, how many free “RAM” there are at the moment.

So, everything is the same with our South Korean guest. The smartphone works great, copes with all tasks one hundred percent, does not bug, does not slow down and does not give any reason to doubt its relevance at the moment.

You bought it, set it up and forgot about all the nuances for a year and a half, until the release of the Galaxy A7 2018 or even 2019 revision. This is exactly how this smartphone should be perceived.

However, I can't help but run some standard tests. After all, we do the most capacious and detailed reviews so that the future owner knows and is warned about all the nuances. Therefore, they drove to play, test AnTuTu and so on.

Assassin`s Creed Identity does not lag, occasionally, in heavy scenes and with fast camera turns, slowdowns are visible, but for the most part they are not.

In World of Tanks Blitz, the situation is as follows. At the maximum graphics settings, everything is not too rosy. The frame rate jumps within 18-25 FPS, no more. We set the parameters to average, restart the game and play quietly at a frequency of 50-60 frames per second.

Now for 4K video playback. And here everything is more than perfect. Even the same smartphone, declared H.265, took it, saw through it and did not even blink an eye.

Photo and video capabilities

Another parameter in which the A7 of the current year is head and shoulders above its predecessor. The front camera had 5, and now it has 16 megapixels! Normal change, don't you think?

The pictures are of very decent quality: detailed, without exposure errors, without any tricks with skin tones and other crimes. Of course, nowhere without the “beauty” mode. On the left is a photo taken with skin smoothing (level 2 of 8), on the right is the original frame.

Since we are dealing with an Asian manufacturer, there is additional functionality here: you can narrow your face and make your eyes bigger. Oh…

The resolution of the rear photosensor has not grown so much - from 13 to 16 megapixels. It's still not stupid.

However, what do we get in terms of image quality? One of the best middle peasants in this regard (yes, the A7 is considered a model of the middle price segment, closer to the highest). Another characteristic is that the photo quality is at the level of the flagships of 2014-2015. And this, in my opinion, is a very worthy result.

Of course, if you need the most sophisticated camera in a smartphone, then this is not for the A7. Look away or even S6 / . These characters in terms of photos are still wow! Xiaomi, despite all its successes, still cannot reach them - up to the tops of 2015, for a minute.

Regular photo

Food Mode

However, in terms of a modern mid-range smartphone with all the latest flagship bells and whistles, the camera offers good, solid quality.

HDR enabled

Finally, Samsung abandoned a million preset modes and left only the most necessary: HDR (without Auto mode), panoramas, delicious food (really peeped from Huawei ?!), night and manual. You can download another GIF maker, but this is optional.

The settings provided one simple but very useful feature - a floating shutter button. The user decides where on the screen to place an additional button for shooting. No need to reach for one single, closer to the bottom edge. And it's convenient!

In terms of video shooting, we have nothing unusual - recording Full HD videos at a frequency of 30 fps. The quality is quite ordinary, with no obvious emphasis on this feature.

I am sure that the device could easily record Ultra HD videos, but, apparently, the developers deliberately cut this function.

The video from the front camera, by the way, is more impressive. Same recording options, but it's still a sensor designed for slightly different things than the rear camera.

Software chips

Every year, the Samsung software shell is getting better, more functional, but at the same time more logical and minimalistic. I'll tell you what I liked.

First, the appearance can be customized to your liking. There is an online catalog of themes from where you can download covers for your interface for every taste. The community there is global, there are a lot of options, and there is a fairly large selection of good, stylish options.

Secondly, the system is very smart. She herself monitors the activity of all applications and processes in the background. From the settings, we go to the "Optimization" item, where the whole thing can be tweaked in detail, adjust the operation of programs, and so on. Many shells have such an opportunity, but in our case this case is presented somehow more clearly. Almost as good as Huawei's EMUI.

And yet the system is not so smart as to work and optimize everything on its own. From time to time you will have to climb into the menu and delete unnecessary file cache, and even in a couple of weeks I have accumulated decently.

Third and coolest! Samsung smartphones have one of the most advanced security systems. The Knox platform is responsible for this case. This is a mixture of hardware and software that sensitively monitors the state of the hardware and the operating system, and also has physical storage where you can put personal information. Access to it is limited even by the operating system itself - the user is logged in only by entering a PIN code through the same Knox platform.

There is another useful feature - "Protected Folder". Here you can throw all sorts of different applications, images and files, and access to them will be only through entering a PIN. You can't even put your imprint on it. Screenshots will not be here, because they cannot be taken in this mode.

In general, "Secure Folder" is like a device within a device. It has its own Google Play market, where you can log in with another Gmail account and install separate applications from under it. Thus, you can get, for example, two WhatsApp in one smartphone: one will be available in normal mode, the other only in secure mode.

There is another way - just copy the application from the main memory of the phone. Both copies will retain the same account, however, if the utility is removed from the main memory, the copy transferred earlier to the “Secure Folder” will remain. I hope the principle of operation is clear.

I also liked the fact that there is practically no software garbage, as it were, “as a gift” from the manufacturer. There is a complete package of office applications from Microsoft, but these utilities will certainly not be superfluous.

I can't say anything negative about the software. And not because I somehow promote the shell from Samsung, I just really didn’t find anything criminal or something like that.

Samsung Pay

I am absolutely delighted with this feature. While testing the device, I paid for everything and everywhere using the phone.

Moreover, you can pay even where they do not accept cards with wireless payment (Visa PayWave and MasterCard PayPass) and all thanks to MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) technology, which cleverly emulates a magnetic field, and the payment terminal recognizes this case as a magnetic stripe of a physical cards.

None of the competitors have this yet, so Samsung is ahead of the rest here.

Registering a bank card is very quick and easy. I set up the card while walking from the car to the grocery store, which was a distance of about 100 meters. For successful verification, both the bank must work with the Samsung Pay system and the card must support this function. I have a “Sber” card from the Stone Age (not wireless), and therefore did not catch on with the system. But with the "Alpha" everything went without a hitch.

Before paying, you need to stick out a piece of your virtual plastic sticking out from the bottom edge of the screen and touch the fingerprint scanner. Next, we bring the smartphone to the terminal and voila - here it is magic!

The thing is very contagious, I want to pay and use it anytime and anywhere!

Battery life

The device received a 3,600 mAh battery. This is not a very large battery, given the thickness (7.9 mm) and the huge screen (the larger the physical area of the device, the more space inside). However, Samsung developers get paid for a reason. Energy optimization is top notch.

Hence the result - the smartphone can easily work for two full days with one SIM card installed and fairly moderate operation (constant background notifications, synchronization, surfing sites, social networks, 2-3 hours of screen glow).

If you drive a smartphone both in the tail and in the mane, constantly surf the Internet, download something, watch online videos, then the capacity reserve is enough for one full day - from early morning until late evening. And the screen time will be close to 5 hours.

I want to note that I did not use any power saving modes. There are a lot of them here, with the right settings, for sure, the life of the device can be extended.

In general, the device did not disappoint in terms of autonomy. You don't even have to carry a portable battery with you.

I can’t say anything about fast charging, since I didn’t have a complete charger or power cable for testing. I charged the smartphone with a regular charger. However, according to a recall on the Web, a full fast charge cycle (Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging) takes about an hour and a half. When you turn it off from the settings, the smartphone charges in 2.5 hours.

Sound quality

Unfortunately, the smartphone is deprived of a normal player for playing music. There is only a utility from Google with an obsessive subscription to their music. She, of course, also knows how to play audio, but not all the necessary formats, does not have any at least some detailed playback settings. Sadness.

However, this arrangement with Google can be bypassed very simply. We open the corporate catalog of applications (Galaxy Apps) and among the recommended utilities we almost meet Samsung Music first. This is the standard application for playing songs.

However, MP3 files play without problems. The sound quality through the headphones is not amazing, it is at the level of most modern smartphones, no matter how much they cost: from 100 to 600 dollars. Even with the proprietary UHQ upscaler, I did not notice any tangible changes. In general, most users will be satisfied with this, music lovers, I think, not very much.

Outcome

Actual Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) price now is 32,990 rubles. It's a bit pricey for my taste. That would be 29,990 rubles - a completely different matter. However, this is just my opinion.

On the other hand, the gadget is quite fresh. From a renowned brand. The whole of itself is of such high quality, beautiful, modern and with full support for Samsung Pay. And how did you want? Buy a quality item for three kopecks? There is a good English (English, right?) proverb for this case: “We are not rich enough to buy cheap things.” This is exactly about the Samsung Galaxy A7 revision of this year.

I would definitely recommend the device to residents of the metropolis who have no idea how Helio X27 differs from Snapdragon 653, why the “permanent” UFS 2.1 standard and other game is preferable. For those who are tired of the endless dominance of iPhones, they want to get a high-quality, modern gadget here and now, so that with a guarantee that everything will be without problems. Well, of course, to change it was necessary not earlier than in a year and a half.

An added bonus is IP68 water resistance. It's really great, because with a smartphone you can safely lie in the bath after a hard day's work. Well, isn't it adorable?!

Are you often on business trips and do not want to overpay for communication? No need to buy a new SIM card with unknown colleagues and native number, now you can make/receive calls over Wi-Fi at the price of calls in Russia for both you and the caller.

Introducing the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) SM-A720F/DS (SM-A720FZKDSER) in Black with 32GB internal memory.

The updated A-series from Samsung received a premium design, similar to the flagship S7, a body made of glass on both sides, framed by a metal frame at the ends. For the first time, all smartphones in this series are dustproof and waterproof. Protection standard IP68 (Protection against water when immersed in fresh water to a depth of 1.5m for up to 30 minutes). What else is new in the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017)?

Updates Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) SM-A720F/DS

The oldest smartphone in the line has undergone the most changes. As noted above, the 2017 A7 received a more technological design. The front of the case is formed by a panel of 2.5D glass, the rear panel is made of 3D glass, the edges are protected by a metal frame. Now the smartphone is protected from dust and moisture. It will especially appeal to fans of smartphones with large screens, now the screen has become even larger. In addition to the design and enlarged display, the gadget received a modern technical stuffing: a new, more efficient processor, improved main and selfie cameras, changed wired and wireless connection parameters, the possibility of expanding memory and increasing the maximum possible amount of a memory card. The device itself has slightly increased in size - 156.8 x 77.6 x 7.9 mm versus 151.5 x 74.1 x 7.3 mm for the 2016 A7, while the battery capacity has been increased and the power consumption of the device has been reduced. The manufacturer also promises a lot of software intuitive "chips" that will take the use of the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) to a new level.

Display

Perhaps the main thing that catches the eye in addition to the new design is its display. The screen of the smartphone has increased in size from 5.5 to 5.7 inches. The screen is made using Super AMOLED technology, which gives a juicy, contrasting picture. Also, do not forget about the deep black color, excellent viewing angles and several preset profiles, with which everyone can customize the image for themselves. The resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels (FullHD). So, nothing prevents you from enjoying a high-quality picture, under any conditions. And all this is protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 with an oleophobic coating that will protect the display not only from scratches, but also from dirt and fingerprints. By the way, you will have to touch the smartphone screen less, because. it has an Always-on Display feature, thanks to which all the necessary information is always on the screen.

Cameras

The main and front cameras have a resolution of 16 megapixels. The rear camera is equipped with phase detection autofocus and a Light + sensor, as well as a built-in flash. Both cameras support HDR technology, which allows you to get high-quality images with vivid colors, even in difficult conditions. It is possible to record video in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) at 30 frames per second and stereo sound. For the most successful shots, you can apply one of the 16 built-in filters or use the "Food" mode. Camera setup is completely simple and intuitive. Selfie lovers will appreciate the updated 16 megapixel front camera with the ability to install the shutter button anywhere on the display. The display itself acts as a flash.

Processor and Memory

The new version of the smartphone has an eight-core Samsung Exynos 7880 processor with a core frequency of 1.9 GHz (in the 2016 version there was an Exynos 7580 - 1.6 GHz). The RAM of the device remained the same - 3 GB. The built-in memory can be expanded with a memory card up to a maximum of 256 GB. Separate memory card slot.

Connection

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) SM-A720F/DS has two separate Nano-sim slots that can work simultaneously. The maximum possible Internet speed is up to 300 Mbps, thanks to LTE cat. 6. In the absence of a network, it is possible to connect via Wi-Fi. The communication of the smartphone with other devices and with wearable electronics (smart watches, headphones, fitness bracelets, etc.) is provided by Bluetooth 4.2. The following Bluetooth profiles are supported: A2DP, AVRCP, DI, HFP, HID, HOGP, HSP, MAP, OPP, PAN, PBAP. Built-in GPS and GLONASS modules will help you find a fast and accurate route. The wired connection in the A series of 2017 is carried out via USB Type C. The manufacturer took care of users with accessories with a microUSB connector by including a USB Type C to microUSB adapter with the phone.

Nutrition

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) has an increased 3600 mAh battery compared to its predecessor, against 3300 mAh before. Compared to the SM-A710F/DS, 3G Internet browsing time has decreased by 1 hour to 13 hours, while 4G Internet browsing time has increased by 2 hours from 14 hours to 16 hours. Video playback time has grown significantly from 15:00 to 20:00 and talk time in 3G networks - from 17:00 to 23:00. Wi-Fi networking time has not changed - up to 17:00, and music listening time has increased from 78 to 94 hours with the screen off . At the same time, the battery has the ability to quickly charge.

The new Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) has retained all the charms of its predecessor, while receiving modern technical stuffing, new cameras, protection against water and dust, has become more autonomous when working in 4G networks and when using multimedia.
