    MDM diagnostics

Windows 10, version 1703 further improves diagnostic features for managing modern mobile devices. Thanks to automatic logging for mobile Windows devices automatically collects logs when errors are detected in MDM, so you no longer need to constantly log on devices with limited memory resources. In addition, Microsoft Message Analyzer has been added to enable support professionals to quickly identify root causes of problems without wasting additional time and money.

    Application Virtualization (App-V) for Windows

In previous versions of the Microsoft Application Virtualization Sequencer (App-V Sequencer), you had to manually create virtualization environments. Windows 10, version 1703 introduces two new PowerShell cmdlets, New-AppVSequencerVM and Connect-AppvSequencerVM, to automatically create a virtualization environment, including provisioning virtual machine... In addition, with the new App-V Sequencer, you can virtualize and update multiple applications at once, automatically saving settings in the App-V Project Template (APPVT). You can also automatically remove unpublished packages using PowerShell scripting or Group Policy settings that take effect after the device is restarted.

Using Miracast on an existing wireless or local area network

In Windows 10, version 1703, Microsoft has added the ability to send a Miracast stream over local network instead of direct wireless connection... This feature is based on the Miracast Over Infrastructure Connection Protocol (MS-MICE).

    Infrastructure Miracast provides several benefits:

    • Windows automatically detects the possibility of sending a video stream along this path.
    • Windows only chooses this route if the connection is over Ethernet or a secure Wi-Fi network.
    • Users do not need to change the way they connect to the Miracast receiver. Uses the same user experience as standard Miracast connection.
    • There is no need to make changes to your current computer hardware or wireless adapter drivers.
    • The solution works well for the older wireless equipment not optimized for Miracast via Wi-Fi Direct.
    • The existing connection is used, which reduces the required connection time and ensures a stable flow.

    Principle of operation

The user attempts to connect to the Miracast receiver as before. After populating the list of Miracast receivers, Windows 10 detects that the receiver supports infrastructure connectivity. When a user selects a Miracast receiver, Windows 10 tries to resolve the hostname of the device through standard DNS as well as multicast DNS (mDNS). If the name is not resolved through one of the DNS methods Windows 10 reverts to setting up a Miracast session with standard connection Wi-Fi Direct.

    Enabling Miracast by Infrastructure

If you have a device that has been updated to Windows 10, version 1703, this feature is already available to you. To take advantage of it in your environment, you need to ensure that the following is true in your deployment:

    • The device (computer, phone, or Surface Hub) is running Windows 10, version 1703.
    • A Windows computer or Surface Hub can act as receiver Miracast over infrastructure. A Windows computer or phone can act as source Miracast over infrastructure.
      • As a Miracast receiver, the computer or Surface Hub must be connected to corporate network over Ethernet or a secured Wi-Fi network (for example, using WPA2-Enterprise or WPA2-PSK). If Surface Hub is connected to an open Wi-Fi networks, Miracast over infrastructure is automatically disabled.
      • As a Miracast source, your computer or phone must be connected to the same enterprise network via Ethernet or a secure Wi-Fi network.
    • The DNS hostname (device name) of the device must be resolvable by your DNS servers. This can be accomplished either by allowing your device to register automatically via dynamic DNS, or by manually creating an A or AAAA record for the device hostname.
    • Windows 10 computers must be connected to the same enterprise network via Ethernet or a secure Wi-Fi network.

Please note that Miracast is not an infrastructure replacement for standard Miracast. This is an additional functionality that provides an advantage to users connected to the corporate network. Users who are guests at a specific location and do not have access to the corporate network will still connect using the method Wi-Fi connections Direct.

This is a complete software that will be ready to work immediately after installation. If you have any questions or wishes, you can ask them in the comments.

Major updates for Windows 10, unlike previous versions of this OS, no longer carry "boring" designations like Service Pack 1 - each of them gets its own name. So, the first update, to version 1511, was called the November Update (for the month in which it was released), the second update, 1607, was called the Anniversary Update (in honor of the anniversary Windows release 10). And now the time has come for the next, third update. Here Microsoft moved away from the practice of binding to anniversaries (or perhaps there was simply no suitable calendar day at hand), and version 1703 was called the Creators Update ("update for designers" in the Russian version) - because this update focuses on content creation and gaming opportunities systems.

How to get a?

As of April 11, Windows 10 Creators Update should be available as a regular update via Windows Update for everyone Windows users... If it does not download automatically, you can install it manually: from April 5, the company Windows utility 10 Update Assistant("Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant") available on the official website (downloaded from the first link, Update now) allowed you to update the system to version 1703. Depending on the Internet connection and the specific PC configuration, the update procedure may take an hour or even more, so before starting it it is better to make sure that you will not need a computer in the near future. Another option is to install latest version Windows 10 is clean, from scratch. To do this, you need to download Media utility Creation Tool (available at the same official page, but already by the second link, Download tool now) and with its help either update the current system, or create a bootable media for installing Windows 10 on another PC.

Start Menu

Microsoft continues to "finish" new variant Start menu: now application tiles can be combined into folders (to do this, just drag one tile on top of another) - it looks like a tile with small icons of the programs in it drawn inside. However, while this function seems somewhat crude - you cannot assign a name to such a folder, and opening it at first causes bewilderment (all applications contained in the folder "fall out" into the ribbon below it in the form of a whole block of tiles).

Further, if in this menu you only use tiles, and you are not interested in the list of installed applications, you can now hide it using the appropriate option in the "Settings" ("Personalization" - "Start"). As a result, the menu will look much more compact, and the list of applications can always be called up using the corresponding button in the left upper corner.

Considering that the desired program can still be found by simply starting to type its name, such a compact version of the main menu has quite the right to life.

Microsoft Edge

The company continues to develop its browser, gradually adding all new functionality to it (for example, in the summer of 2016, in the Anniversary Update, Edge has already received support for third-party extensions). In the Creators Update, Microsoft Edge has the ability to save all the tabs of the current session (two buttons in the upper left corner): in addition to its main task (deferred reading of the currently open tabs), this function can also be used to organize the tab bar if you used to keeping several dozen sites open at a time. It should be noted that saved in side panel tabs are not kept in memory - when such a session is called, all sites are loaded anew.

In addition, another tool has appeared for working with tabs - a preview panel for thumbnails of open sites (called by the "down arrow" button to the right of the button for opening a new tab).

Imperceptible at first glance improvements, the new version of Edge boasts support for online payments based on the Web Payments API, streaming movies to Netflix in 4K, reading e-books v EPUB format, support for the new Brotli compression algorithm and Flash disabled by default.

Cortana

Virtual assistant Cortana also got her share of improvements. For example, now she "controls" initial setting systems after installation, may remind you of what you recently worked on (and not only on the current device, but also on others where you went under the same account), and also knows how to independently create reminders based on the sent mail. However, in our reality, all this is only of theoretical interest - Cortana is still not available in our country.

Windows Update

Windows Update can now pause the installation of updates for up to 35 days (in all OS versions except Home). For Windows 10 Home users, the time period has been increased during which they can prevent Windows from restarting to install updates - from 12 to 18 hours a day.

One of the main innovations in Windows Update is the transition to the new Unified Update Platform, which allows you to reduce the size of downloaded files by downloading only those changes that were implemented after previous updates... Also in the Creators Update, it became possible to specify the current Ethernet connection as metered connection- in case of traffic restrictions, this will prevent automatic downloading of updates.

"Night light"

"Night" themes that make it easier to see the screen in the dark, on mobile devices have been around for quite some time, both at the system level and at the individual applications... For Windows users available third party utility f.lux, which changes the color temperature of the screen image over time. And now Microsoft has introduced own version this solution is the option "Night light" (Night Light). It allows you to reduce the proportion of blue color, making the picture more "warm" and pleasing to the eye in the dark. Its quick activation is carried out using the switch in the "Notification Center", and you can adjust the behavior of the "Night light" in the "Settings" (section "Screen"): here you can adjust the degree of "warmth" of the image and set the operating hours.

When manually activated, it turns on instantly, when turned on according to the schedule, the "warming" process is extended for two minutes, which makes it easier to acclimatize to a new style. It's still too fast compared to f.lux, but overall the appearance of such a mode in Windows 10 is welcome.

Game Mode

One of the biggest innovations in the Creators Update is, of course, the "game mode". It is activated in the game menu, invoked using the hotkeys Win + G (here in the settings you must enable the option "Use game mode for this game"). After that Windows will limit consumption system resources for neglected background processes and will provide the released "power" to the game. This should work best for games from the Windows Store running on the Universal Windows Platform, but in regular games like Steam, this option will also work. You shouldn't expect any noticeable increase in fps, of course, but for a smoother, without stuttering performance, and a little more fast loading you can hope. For a couple of days of its use in World of Warcraft and The Witcher 3, no special changes were noticed, however, in other, more resource-intensive games, perhaps the action game mode will still be more tangible.

Also in the game menu there is a possibility of streaming gameplay, with overlay on it video from the webcam and voice from the microphone. It uses the Beam streaming service, which was recently bought by Microsoft, and with its help all your friends on Xbox Live will be able to follow your broadcasts. Of course, on Windows computers, this function is unlikely to be able to move the same Twitch or YouTube aside, but at the same time with Windows 10 it runs on Xbox One, so with its task - to create your own simple and convenient streaming in the Microsoft eco-system - she can handle it.

System Applications

They received their portion of the changes and system applications... So, the familiar Paint got a more modern "universal" version ... and turned into a 3D editor. There is even a community where you can share your creations; In addition, 3D shapes created in Paint can be used as holograms on HoloLens devices. But in general, to be honest, it looks more like a rationale for the Creators Update name than an application that is really in demand among the wide user masses. Fortunately, the good old Paint has not gone anywhere (and has not changed at all) - so now there are as many as two graphic editors in the system.

In the post office Mail client the inbox is now presented as two subfolders, Focused (for important mail) and Other (the name speaks for itself). Mail itself decides what and where to add, so it is very likely that the user will soon want to disable this option and see all the letters the old fashioned way, in one folder - fortunately, there is such an opportunity.

The Groove Music and Movies & TV audio and video players received a slight update to the interface style and a number of other cosmetic improvements (like the frame-by-frame view mode in the latter) - however, in our conditions they represent a very conditional value. There is no corresponding media content in the regional Windows Store, and as usual local audio and video players they are clearly inferior to the whole mass of analogs.

Windows Defender got new interface with a somewhat strange name - "Security Center Windows Defender". This application brings together the built-in antivirus and firewall settings under one roof, plus you can also manage family sharing settings and respond to system health reports (such as updating outdated or malfunctioning drivers).

Outcomes

In Windows 10 Creators Update, there are still many other, small and not so, innovations and improvements (taking a screenshot of the selected area by Win + Shift + S, smoother resizing of windows, improved display of the row system utilities on monitors with high pixel density, fast access To VPN settings drawing on touch screen over pictures in the Photos application, display universal applications in compact overlay mode, etc., etc.). In general, the update turned out to be quite large-scale and contains many really useful changes - the only thing that is somewhat surprising is that there are practically no improvements in the tablet mode of use.

As we all know, the Windows 10 operating system was released quite recently, in 2015. Just a few weeks ago, Microsoft released new build for your system - 1703, or the so-called Creative Update. If you remember, early versions Windows 10 were 1507, 1511, and 1607.

The creative update will be automatically downloaded if you have configured the appropriate settings in your system. However, for some users, things do not go as smoothly as they would like. One of the problems is installation stuck, which is incredibly common among many Windows 10 users.

Users start downloading a new assembly, but the installation process hangs at various percentages, for example, 23%, 27%, 75%, and the like, and this state of affairs can persist for up to several hours. Today we will talk about this problem and try to fix it for you.

Ways to solve freeze installation of build 1703 for Windows 10

Method # 1 Diagnosing problems for Windows Update

  • Click on Win + X.
  • Select "Control Panel".
  • Select "System and Security".
  • Under the item "Support Center", click on the link "Fix typical problems computer ".
  • Under Diagnose Problems, select Windows Update.
  • Finally, click on "Run Problem Diagnostics".

Method number 2 Downloading the image of Windows 10 1703 through the Media Creation Tool

There are two ways to update or even install Windows 10 on your device. The first is to use Windows Update or Settings, and the second is use of Media Creation Tool. This tool allows you to update your computer via Windows Update or via ISO image which you must download and burn to a removable flash device. Let's take a look at the second way:

  • Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
  • Click on the Download Tool Now button to download the Media Creation Tool to your PC. It will weigh nothing at all - 17.5MB.
  • Double click on the downloaded MediaCreationTool.exe and click "Apply" as soon as the license agreement window appears.
  • You need to check the box next to "Create installation media ..." and click "Next".
  • Choose language, architecture and Windows edition 10 and then click Next.
  • Now you need to choose what you want to use as the media. Check the box next to "USB device ..." and click "Next".
  • Select your media and click Next.

Once the Media Creation Tool finishes this procedure, you will need to boot your computer via a USB device and try updating the OS. In case you have problems, try the same operation, but only with the ISO file, and then run setup.exe. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the Creative Update.

Method number 3 Removing third-party antiviruses

If your computer has any third party antiviruses, then there is a chance that they are behind the problems with the installation of the Creative Update for Windows 10. Try disabling or removing the installed antivirus software from your system, and then try downloading Build 1703 again. If everything goes well, then you will know that antivirus was the problem.

Method number 4 Disable Windows Firewall

Your Windows Firewall monitors all inbound and outbound network traffic on the system. Sometimes, it is turning off the firewall that can solve the problems with updating the Windows OS. To disable Windows 10 Firewall, follow these steps:

  • Right click on Start and select "Control Panel".
  • Find "Windows Firewall".
  • In the left pane of the window, click on "Change notification settings".
  • Check the boxes next to "Turn off Windows Firewall" in the private and public network settings.

As soon as you turn off Windows Firewall, try installing Creative Update for Windows 10 again. Perhaps the Firewall simply blocked the download of the update for some reason, which happens quite often, unfortunately.

Method number 5 Disable quick start

Fast startup of Windows 10 improves performance. You can activate and deactivate this function completely safely. To disable Fast Startup, follow these steps:

  • Click on Win + X.
  • Go to Power Management.
  • In the left pane, click on "Power Button Actions"
  • Now click on the link "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
  • Go to the "Shutdown Options" column.
  • Uncheck the box next to Enable quick start(recommended) "
  • And finally, click on the "Save Changes" button.

Some computers take longer to Windows boot 10, it all depends on the Internet connection and its speed. In some cases, at worst, it can take up to 24 hours to download, so be patient.

There are several points during download where you might think the download progression has stalled:

  • On a black screen with a blue circle in the region of 30-39 percent, while the operating system is loading all dynamic updates for Windows 10.
  • During 96 percent, while Windows will save your data.
  • During the message, which will say that your device will take more time to get ready, but everything should be ready soon.
