Scopes of M2M data transfer. M2M projects in the North-West region

Special corporate rate for data transfer. Interesting for its "inhuman" essence, additional functionality and the possibility of flexible customization for the needs of a particular client.

The tariff parameters can be found on the website, the main areas of application of SIM-cards with this tariff are listed below:

  • Monitoring of transport and moving objects - obtaining information about the location and route of the vehicle (freight transport, courier delivery, taxi, etc.) to the control panel;
  • Monitoring of pipeline systems - remote measurements of liquid (gas) flow, temperature, and other parameters of the technological environment.
  • Payment systems - transfer of transactions to the processing center from ATMs, POS-terminals, street payment terminals, etc.;
  • Security - transmission of a signal and additional data (for example, coordinates) by pressing a panic button, anti-theft systems, video surveillance, etc.

An important feature of the tariff is the absence voice communication, this service is not provided on Telematics at all. Calling "voice" from such SIM-cards is still not supposed, but the design can be simplified and the probability of misuse is almost zero.

Was it necessary to create special rate for such seemingly niche projects? Moreover, in terms of its basic price parameters, Telematics does not differ from the publicly available Onliner tariff, the same 4.75 rubles. for one megabyte of traffic with kilobyte session rounding. As it turned out, the Telematics tariff itself is only one of the components of the new direction, which MTS intends to actively develop. Especially for Mobile-Review, Yury Ostrovsky, Head of the Product Development Department of the Department for the Development of Convergent Solutions, shared his vision of the near future.

M2M direction (machine-to-machine) is extremely perspective and dynamically developing. Now there are relatively few such "mechanical" subscribers, but potentially they may turn out to be no less than live users. And this market is growing very fast. Already today it would be difficult or cost-effective to abandon mobile transmission data between devices. ATMs and payment terminals are at every step and almost all of them are equipped with GPRS modules, it would be too expensive to pull a cable to each “iron box”.

By the way, inconspicuous GSM antennas on ATMs have always alarmed me. Serious cash and non-cash money move through them, and packet data transfer is not a completely reliable thing. It will turn out that a fragment of the network is overloaded with voice at the wrong time, and there is no data transfer. Yuri explained that the reliability required in these cases is achieved by double redundancy, if necessary, data can be transmitted via a switched CSD (Circuit Switched Data) communication channel and even via SMS exchange.

In order not to retell in my own words, a small quote from the material carefully prepared by the MTS press service:

“Assessing the global M2M market, experts cite the following figures: today there are about 100 million devices in the world that remotely transmit data to information processing centers. According to experts, best way M2M data transfer - via wireless networks. In addition to the obvious savings in cabling wireless transmission data provides a significant reduction in the duration of sessions between devices: in mobile network The average duration of a data transfer session today is about 5 seconds. against about 20 sec. for wired network common use. The predicted growth of the M2M market in the world, according to the agencies Future World Consultancy, RSA, Allied Business, Berg Insight, ABI Research, is 80-120% per year until 2012.

M2M services in Russia and the CIS countries are currently at the initial stage of development. For example, according to our estimates, the number of M2M modules in the MTS network in the most developed market in this regard - in Moscow today is less than one percent of the subscriber base. At the same time, the Russian M2M market is growing rapidly, and MTS expects to become the leader in this promising market segment. The Telematics tariff is MTS' first step in the M2M services development strategy. Over the next five years, according to our conservative estimates, the number of users of M2M services of MTS in Russia will exceed 3 million.”

The average monthly income from a "mechanical" subscriber is usually 5-8 dollars, but such "users" are predictable and loyal, this is important. Replacing a SIM card in a modem is not an easy operation, and for the sake of momentary penny savings, no one will do this. And if there are hundreds or thousands of terminals? And if SIM-cards are installed in systems that monitor pressure in the pipeline somewhere at the end of the world? Here you will inevitably become a 100% loyal subscriber.

The consumption of GPRS traffic by such subscribers is low. Devices used on Vehicle ah, consume 5-15 MB. per month, the bank terminal can "eat" more than 50 MB. per month. Despite the modest performance of each individual SIM card, a stable and rapidly growing overall income is encouraging. The company has taken this segment of the market seriously and intends to develop a set of holistic proposals and turnkey solutions. As examples of projects that have already taken place, they speak of the positive experience of cooperation with the Zelenograd Automobile Plant, which, through the use of vehicle monitoring technologies, managed to reduce non-production mileage of vehicles and the consumption of fuels and lubricants by 5%, thereby reducing costs by 6.1 million rubles. rub. in year. In November 2009, MTS and the Moscow United Energy Company (MOEK) launched a joint project in the metropolitan area to ensure energy consumption control. SIM-cards are installed in energy consumption meters, which provide continuous transmission of information to the server Central system accounting of energy resources MOEK.

This segment of the market also looks attractive in terms of subscriber base growth, because each "mechanical" subscriber is counted in the statistics as a regular one. So far, the number of such SIM cards is relatively small, but if the predicted rapid growth takes place, it will become more difficult for analysts to calculate the average number of SIM cards per “living subscriber soul”.

Actually tariff

As already written, voice calls are not provided. Only GPRS, MMS, SMS and dial-up data transmission with a price of 1.35 rubles. per minute of both outgoing and incoming call. The tariff is a kind of “hybrid”: for small episodic needs, you can use the basic option without subscription fee, with more noticeable "appetites" of the device, you can connect one of the provided packages from 5 to 90 MB. The connected package is valid indefinitely, renewal on the 1st day of each month. The subscription fee for the GPRS traffic package is debited on the 2nd day of each month at in full. The connected package will be valid until it is changed or disconnected by the subscriber. The traffic included in the package can be spent within a calendar month, the unused balance of traffic is not transferred to the next month.

Among other important features is a single price for data transfer in intranet roaming and per-kilobyte session rounding, with in large numbers machine-generated micro-sessions is a significant plus. As in any other corporate tariff, Telematics provides a matrix of discounts depending on the volume of accruals and the number of connected SIM-cards.

For private users, the tariff is not of particular interest, in basic version"Onliner" is more profitable (discount at night). And for large volumes of traffic, it is more rational to use Connect. A small user niche - stably consuming relatively small volumes (less than 100 Mb.) of traffic, in this case, "Telematics" with a connected package will save a little. Another potential consumer is a person who needs a guaranteed backup channel Internet access while traveling. 1.35 rub./min. for CSD access in intranet roaming is quite a humane price. Yes, in the 3G era, the speed is 9.6 Kbps. causes a healthy laugh, a megabyte of data will be transferred for about 15 minutes. But almost guaranteed access to the network, regardless of the availability / performance of GPRS. One can also recall the complaints about Trojans, which during the Internet session, imperceptibly for the user, initiate expensive calls, such trick will not work on the tariff with disabled voice communication.

MTS presents a new corporate tariff "Telematics", specially designed for data transfer between devices using GPRS, SMS, MMS or CSD.

"Telematics" tariff is the first step of MTS in the development strategy of services based on the interaction of various technical devices using communication technologies. The segment of such services is one of the fastest growing segments of the services market. mobile communications, as the development of technology and the increase in the coverage area of mobile networks contribute to the rapid development of services that provide round-the-clock low-cost and effective communication between devices anywhere,” said Mikhail Gerchuk, MTS Vice President for Commercial Affairs.

This tariff is intended for data transfer within:

  • Monitoring of transport and moving objects - obtaining information about the location and route (freight transport, urban public transport, courier delivery, taxi, etc.) to the control panel;
  • Monitoring of technological systems - remote measurements of liquid (gas) flow, temperature, and other parameters of the technological environment.
  • Payment systems - transfer of transactions to the processing center from ATMs, POS-terminals, street payment terminals, etc.;
  • Security systems - transmission of a signal and additional data (for example, coordinates) by pressing a panic button, anti-theft systems, etc.

Advantages of the MTS Telematics tariff

  • MTS offers favorable price for 1 MB within the included packages of GPRS Internet traffic - from 2.8 rubles per MB. The traffic rounding threshold provided by MTS - 1 Kbyte - optimally corresponds to a typical small amount of data usually transmitted during one session.
  • The terms of the Telematics tariff apply not only to home region, but also to the entire territory of MTS intranet roaming.
  • Flexible system of discounts for GPRS/SMS/MMS/CSD traffic (up to 50%) depending on the number of connected subscriber numbers per contract and the amount of traffic used.
  • The cost of traffic in intranet roaming is the same as in the home region.
  • Special billing conditions - a low traffic rounding threshold of 1 KB, which optimally corresponds to a typical session size (1-2 KB).
  • The ability to connect small packets of GPRS-Internet traffic (from 5 MB) for devices that generate a small amount of traffic.
  • Discounts up to 50% depending on the number of subscriber numbers and traffic volume.

Terms of use

Special corporate tariff MTS "Telematics" is intended for corporate users ( legal entities), individual entrepreneurs. Voice communication services are not provided on this tariff.

Application areas for M2M data transmission

  • Monitoring of transport and moving objects - obtaining information about the location and route of the vehicle (freight transport, courier delivery, taxi, etc.) to the control panel;
  • Monitoring of pipeline systems - remote measurements of liquid (gas) flow, temperature, and other parameters of the technological environment.
  • Payment systems - transfer of transactions to the processing center from ATMs, POS-terminals, street payment terminals, etc.;
    Security - transmission of a signal and additional data (for example, coordinates) by pressing a panic button, anti-theft systems, video surveillance, etc.

Prospects for the development of M2M services in the world and in Russia. MTS strategy

The spread of mobile communications in the world and in Russia contributes to the rapid development of M2M services, since it provides inexpensive and effective method communication between devices in the coverage area cellular network. Today, almost any device equipped with a microprocessor can be connected to a network with using GSM module and exchange data with other devices or an information processing center via GPRS, SMS, CSD or MMS channels.

Assessing the global M2M market, experts cite the following figures: today there are about 100 million devices in the world that remotely transmit data to information processing centers. According to experts, the best way to transfer M2M data is through wireless networks. In addition to the obvious savings in cabling, wireless data transfer provides a significant reduction in the duration of sessions between devices: in a mobile network, the average duration of a data transfer session today is about 5 seconds. against about 20 sec. for a wired public network. The predicted growth of the M2M market in the world, according to the agencies Future World Consultancy, RSA, Allied Business, Berg Insight, ABI Research, is 80-120% per year until 2012.

M2M services in Russia and the CIS countries are currently at the initial stage of development. For example, according to our estimates, the number of M2M modules in the MTS network in the most developed market in this regard - in Moscow, today is less than one percent. subscriber base. At the same time, the Russian M2M market is growing rapidly, and MTS expects to become the leader in this promising market segment. The Telematics tariff is MTS' first step in the M2M services development strategy. Over the next five years, according to our conservative estimates, the number of users of M2M services of MTS in Russia will exceed 3 million.

Main parameters of the "Telematics" tariff

* AP is absent if the subscriber has not connected the GPRS Internet traffic package. In this case, GPRS Internet traffic is paid at basic rates.

** When connected GPRS package Internet traffic for its renewal is charged monthly by the AP.

Package validity: unlimited, renewal on the 1st of each month. The subscription fee for the connected GPRS-Internet traffic package is charged on the 2nd day of each month in full. The monthly renewable connected package will be valid until it is changed or disconnected by the subscriber. The traffic included in the package can be spent within a calendar month, the unused balance of traffic is not transferred to the next month. If the paid traffic package ends before the end of the month or if the package is not connected, GPRS-Internet traffic is paid per megabyte at the base rate.

All packages are mutually exclusive, i.e. connection of a new package leads to disconnection of the previously connected one. When changing the package, a one-time charge for connecting the package occurs in accordance with the tariff. When connecting, the package is charged in full, the balance of the previous package is added to the new package.

Offers of Russian mobile operators

Along with MTS, other Russian operators « big three» offer special rates for M2M data transfer. For example, for Beeline it is the “Monitoring” tariff, for Megafon it is “Office in your pocket” and “Management of remote objects”.

Implemented projects based on the M2M data transmission service in the MTS network

In partnership with MTS, numerous projects have been implemented based on the M2M data transmission service in the MTS network. Among these projects are the following:

Moscow Metro, Zelenograd Automotive Plant - implemented projects for monitoring corporate vehicles based on mobile technology MTS. Monitoring systems use GSM communication with mobile objects equipped with mobile terminals. Installed on vehicles mobile terminal with a GPS receiver that allows you to determine the location of an object relative to several satellites on geostationary orbits and calculate its exact geographical coordinates(up to several meters). Through preset intervals time, the mobile terminal of each vehicle transmits information to the dispatch center via GPRS or SMS channel MTS. For the operation of these systems, MTS provides transport infrastructure, i.e. their communication networks. The applied MTS technologies exclude unauthorized access to the data stream. Through the use of vehicle monitoring technologies, Zelenograd Avtokombinat, for example, managed to reduce non-production mileage of vehicles and the consumption of fuels and lubricants by 5%, thereby reducing costs by 6.1 million rubles. in year.

MIPC project in the field of energy consumption monitoring in Moscow

In November 2009, MTS and the Moscow United Energy Company (MOEK) launched a project in the metropolitan area to ensure energy consumption control as part of a joint project in the field of monitoring energy consumption in Moscow. This is the largest project in the capital in the field of monitoring the consumption of energy resources.

Communication of energy consumption data within automated system monitoring, as well as the security of data transmission is provided by MTS. MTS SIM-cards are installed in energy consumption meters, which ensure continuous transmission of information to the server of the Central Energy Resources Accounting System of MIPC.

The transmission of information via MTS communication channels occurs almost instantly, so the calculation is carried out with the highest possible accuracy. A more accurate calculation of energy consumption online allows you to conduct optimal planning of energy supplies, which means to improve energy savings, reduce losses and save fuel. For residents of Moscow, this means an improvement in the environmental situation in the city and a reduction in the cost of paying for energy resources.

According to experts, the introduction of an automated system for technical accounting of energy resources can reduce energy consumption by up to 10%.

A tariff plan called "Telematics" from MTS is available for use by corporate clients. The offer is not ordinary and does not look like the standard rates that are used for communication. MTS has become the first telecommunications company in Russia to systematically promote a portfolio of products based on M2M at the federal level.

The first step in the development strategy of M2M services was the launch of a secure data transmission service, a telematic solution for monitoring vehicles "NIKA" and the launch in December 2009 of the "Telematics" tariff, created specifically for corporate clients and focused on data transfer between electronic devices. Next step- launch of an innovative product for the M2M market - reliable and durable heat-resistant SIM-cards in March 2010. Such SIM-cards became widespread in the world only in 2008-2009, and before that, no operator had such offers on the Russian market. And in January 2011, MTS launched a new generation of SIM cards - in the form factor of a microchip for data transmission devices. MTS plans to further expand the functionality of M2M services, in particular, through new features of M2M SIM cards, new options for telematic tariffs, as well as to actively use Comstar fixed communication lines in order to additional protection transmitted data. In September 2011, MTS launched the M2M Manager service, which allows you to set up and control the operation of various M2M equipment in the MTS network in real time from the screen of any computer.

The company plans to modernize services and introduce additional functions, including expanding the functionality of the M2M SIM card management system, optimizing MTS telematics tariffs.

World experience

M2M in the world began to develop somewhat earlier than similar services came to Russia. But already now the Russian dynamics is almost at the level of the global one. The research agency Yankee Group believes that the global M2M market will demonstrate one of the highest growth rates in the service segment in the next decade. wireless communication. The Yankee Group predicts an increase in the number of M2M connections between devices in the world to 217.5 million in 2015 from 81.8 million during 2011. Operators' revenues from providing M2M services over the same period will more than double: to $6.7 billion in 2015 from $3.1 billion in 2011.

The Infonetics Research agency, in turn, estimated the number of m2m connections between devices in the world in 2010 at 87 million and expects such connections to grow to 428 million by 2014. The agency expects that the CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of wireless m2m services in the world over this period will be 38%.

Research and forecasts of the global M2M market indicate a steady growth of 25-45% per year. The average ARPU of a service (based on a sample of 15 large European companies) ranges from $2 to $15 (depending on the type of service).

Growth of the M2M market in Russia

2014

According to MTS estimates, the volume Russian market M2M services in the first nine months of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013 increased by 14% and reached 5.5 million SIM cards. 2011

In 2011, the growth rates of m2m services exceeded initial forecasts. According to the results of the first half of 2011, the number of MTS SIM cards involved in telematics increased to 820 thousand units, an increase of 60%. Growth at the end of the year can be about 100%.

MTS assumes that in 2011 the number of SIM-cards involved in telematic services will double compared to the previous period. The M2M market in Russia at the end of 2011 will amount to about 2.5-2.7 million subscribers, MTS intends to maintain its market share in telematics at the level of 40-45%.

M2M projects in the North-West region

Using M2M MTS services in Northwest region for 8 months of 2011 increased by 3 times. The greatest demand is for the MTS Telematics tariff, which is specially focused on data transmission using M2M technology in the field of monitoring transport and moving objects, payment systems and security systems, at housing and communal services enterprises.

The maximum, doubling increase in the use of M2M services occurred in the field of vehicle monitoring: the transfer of information about the location and route, as well as fuel consumption to the vehicle monitoring center. The use of M2M services in security organizations (anti-theft systems), housing and communal services (remote measurements of liquid, gas and other parameters) and in the field of work with payment terminals (transfer of transaction data from ATMs, terminals, street terminals for payment for services).

The number of users of SIM-cards "MTS thermo" for 8 months of 2011 has doubled compared to 2010. MTS thermo SIM cards are able to work smoothly in the most difficult climatic and industrial conditions, from extreme north to the hot south, which is especially important for the northern regions of the Northwest.

“The sector of M2M services in the field of mobile communications is actively developing - today business and municipal enterprises are looking for new opportunities to optimize costs and save resources. From the point of view of the application of M2M solutions, the most promising sectors today are utilities, transport, healthcare and security. Thanks to M2M services, MTS customers get the opportunity to significantly reduce their costs by reducing personnel and energy costs, reduce accidents due to online monitoring, and improve the quality of services provided,” said Ivan Zolochevsky, Director of MTS in the regions of the North-West.
    • MTS provides M2M services to the largest companies in the region. MTS provides data transmission services to Rosokhrana Telecom LLC, a leading provider of communication channel organization services for private security in St. Petersburg. MTS provided Rosokhrana Telecom LLC with 1,500 SIM cards connected to a special tariff for Telematics data exchange, which are used in private security systems to transmit service information about the state of the protected object.
    • MTS provides monitoring of security systems of the company "Caesar Satellite" LLC - largest company for the provision of satellite anti-theft systems that carry out security monitoring of the car using GPS navigation. In case of danger, information about the movement of objects connected to the system using the technology of data transfer between devices is promptly sent to a special Dispatch Center. Today, Caesar Satellite LLC uses about 27,000 MTS SIM cards for automatic exchange data.
    • The security company "An Security" LLC uses more than 300 MTS SIM-cards in terminals installed in retail facilities: chain supermarkets and hypermarkets, car dealerships, chain gas stations.
    • Arkan LLC - federal operator security services, uses about 10,000 MTS SIM cards to provide remote control object states. Also in the MTS salons you can pay for the security services of Arkan LLC.

Key growth drivers for the m2m segment:

  • high penetration cellular communication with sustainable quality (MTS networks cover more than 90% of the populated territory of Russia, MTS implements network construction projects in remote regions, in partnership with clients - the largest manufacturing and mining companies, this allows you to install SIM cards on remote objects, in difficult climatic conditions);
  • development of solutions for integrated management telematic SIM cards ("M2M manager")

improvement of technologies in the field of M2M (thermal SIM cards, development of solutions for embedded SIM cards, etc.).

  • already implemented government programs on the modernization of economic sectors, such as transport, energy, medicine.

Prospects for the use of M2M services by Russian companies

In Russia, the number of industries where it is expedient to use M2M technologies has grown significantly. This, in particular, is due to the fact that the crisis has forced many companies to look for ways to reduce costs and improve business efficiency through the introduction of innovative technologies.

The most promising segments in terms of the development of M2M services, in our opinion, are:

  • monitoring and control of transport. This segment accounts for about 40% of all clients of M2M services of MTS. Projects in this area were implemented by MTS in Ryazan, Samara, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Bryansk, Zelenograd, Moscow, Kazan, Saratov;
  • remote measurements of sensors. Here, M2M services are used to control the operation of fuel and energy complex systems and systems for the extraction / processing / transportation of raw materials, for example, for remote monitoring pressure in pipelines. In the housing and public utilities sector, telematic services are used to monitor energy supply systems, for example, to control pressure and temperatures in heating systems, they can be used in water and electricity meters, to monitor the operation of elevators, and garbage collection services. This segment accounts for about 20% of MTS M2M services clients;
  • security and anti-theft systems (about 10% of clients of M2M services of MTS);
  • ATMs and automated payment systems (about 20% of clients of M2M services of MTS);
  • vending machines and automated points of sale (about 5% of clients of M2M services of MTS). Another 5% is accounted for by other telematic services.

Among the promising industries for the development of M2M technologies, MTS also includes the field of healthcare (mobile cardiographs, monitoring of ambulances).
