Cursors with visual effects for Windows 10

Cursors, like other elements of the Windows interface, can be configured. Today, on the Internet, you can find a huge variety of types of cursors. For example, the CursorFX program contains a huge database of various cursors that are distinguished by originality, drawing quality, as well as animation and sound effects!

The program is in Russian; its interface is quite simple. In addition to settings and other introductory information, it contains four main categories:

  1. Types of cursors.
  2. Effects.
  3. Pointer traces.
  4. Sounds.

The first category contains varied and original cursor options. All of them differ in their type: texture, color and animation. By the way, the animation is done very competently and effectively, and in terms of quality of execution it is not inferior to the drawing and implementation of the cursors themselves.

In the "Effects" tab, you can further customize them, as well as select to your liking. Effects appear when you click, select text, load programs and open windows. It is worth noting that each of the above actions is accompanied by a unique animation.

Pointer trails - this option is less diverse, but it will appeal to pedantic users who want to get their hands on the perfect cursor.

In the "Sounds" option, you can select the audio effects that will be played during various actions. You can set a separate sound effect for each mouse button.

How to download for PC?

CursorFX is perfect for those who are tired of the standard arrow cursor; as well as people who often lose it "out of sight" (due to its miniature size). You can download the program without SMS and without viruses for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. A direct link, available without registration, will provide maximum download speed to your computer.

Pointer - an arrow with which the user interacts with programs and files. Depending on the action performed, it can take on a different form (about 15 in total). A hand on hover, an hourglass on idle, and so on. On Windows 10, there are several built-in color schemes available for the cursor. All of them are divided into systemic, large, huge. Additionally, it can be changed to only perform certain actions (background, help, wait). Next, we will look at how to change the mouse cursor on Windows 10.

You can change the appearance of the pointer on Windows without using third-party software. For this:

  1. Open "Start" and click on the gear icon, or type "Settings" in the search box and launch the application in the "Best Match" section.
  1. In the window that appears, find the category "Accessibility" and click on it with the left mouse button.
  1. Here, in the list on the right, find the line "Mouse". After that, options will appear on the left side of the screen. Choose a color and size from the available options.

All changes made will be saved automatically as soon as you close the Options window.

This method is suitable if you want to quickly increase or decrease the cursor, change the color. For finer tuning, use the method described below.

Through the control panel

If you want to change not only the main pointer, but also its other types, then on the computer, follow these steps:

  1. Left-click on the "Start" menu and enter "Control Panel" in the empty field. Select "Classic App" from the list that appears. It will be at the very top under the inscription "Best Match".
  1. In the window that opens, the viewing modes "Small Icons" or "Large Icons" are possible. To do this, click on the "View" button and select a convenient way for you to display the controls. Find and click on the line "Mouse" to go to the next step.
  1. A new window will open where you can configure the mouse configuration, change the cursor, its movement speed. To change the appearance, go to the Pointers tab.
  1. The current display scheme will be shown here. If you wish, you can change it to one of the available ones. Depending on the type of OS edition, their number may differ. Click on "Scheme" and select the one you like from the drop-down list. All changes will be displayed in the "Settings" field. Therefore, you can see how the cursor will look for different situations (idle, special selection, etc.).
  1. Optionally, you can change the cursor only for specific cases. For example, leave the default arrow, but change the "Help Selection" (or any other). To do this, in the "Settings" field, click on the one you want to edit, and click "Browse".
  1. A list will appear with all available icons in .ani, .cur format. Click on the one you like and click "Open". After that, the information will be updated in the "Settings" field. In a similar way, you can reassign the display type for each situation. Then click "Apply" to save your changes.
  1. To save the created scheme, click "Save As", enter a name for it and click on the "OK" button. After that, you can find it in the list of available ones.

You do not need to restart your computer for the change to take effect. The cursor will change immediately after you close the current window. To return the default icons, it will be enough to go back to the mouse properties and select "None" or "Default" for a specific type of pointer in the list of color schemes.

An interesting fact: there are two types of pointers: .cur - standard, static images; .ani - animated (can glow, blink, etc.).

Custom Cursors

If you do not like the built-in pointers, then you can create your own or download ready-made ones. Through the Oformi website, you will get free access to a huge library of icons for Windows 10 (and other versions). For this:

  1. On the main page of the resource, click on the "Cursors" section and find "For Windows" in the drop-down list.
  1. Here you will see a list of topics available for pointers. They can be sorted by popularity, attendance and other indicators. Click on the one you like to read more about it.
  1. On the opened page you will see properties, comments, rating. Click "Download" to start downloading files.
  1. Unzip the downloaded archive to any location on your hard drive. After that you will be able to set custom icons for your cursor. Through the control panel, open the properties of the mouse (as described in the instructions above). Here, go to the "Pointers" tab and in the "Settings" field, select the icon you want to change, and click "Browse".
  1. In the window that opens, specify the directory into which the archive with the downloaded images was unpacked (in our example, this is the desktop, but you can mark any other place). Select the icon you want to put and click "Open". After that, it will immediately appear in the "Settings" field.
  1. Click "Apply" to save all changes made.

Note that this way you will have to manually set icons for each pointer type. You can't change them all at once.

How to create and set your own pointer

You can create your own cursor using standard tools. For example, through Paint (you can use any other photo editor). For this:

  1. Save the resulting image in .png format. Convert it to .cur or .ani with any online converter (we used https://convertio.co/en/). Download the file you just created with Paint.
  1. After that, you can set the resulting image as a pointer. You can do this through the control panel, mouse properties (as in the instructions above). To do this, select the downloaded .cur file through the "Browse" button and click "Open".

The custom cursor can be any size and color. But we recommend setting it within 128x128 pixels and using a transparent background.

You can create a unique cursor not only using standard Windows tools, but also through third-party software. The most popular program is ArtCursors. It can be downloaded from the official website

  1. Click "File" - "Save as" to save the finished result.

The file will be saved to the specified directory already in the .cur format, so you won't have to convert it separately. It will be enough just to install it as a new one through the control panel.
