Failed to transfer the application not enough space. Using special cleaning utilities

If you are sure that there is enough memory, but Android does not allow you to install applications, use these tips.

We delete unnecessary files, clean the cache and start a new life without the nasty message "not enough space in the device's memory."

The problem with the lack of memory for installing applications really exists, and it mainly concerns budget devices with built-in memory of 4 or 8 GB.

Now Android phones come with a lot of memory, but if you love taking photos or download a lot of apps, it can be difficult.

Even if you've removed everything you could and the memory issue persists, it could be because your RAM is clogged with cached files.

Applications are not installed and this ill-fated "insufficient storage available" error appears.

Often the cache becomes full after moving a large number of applications from the internal memory to the SD card.

How annoying it is when you know that the device is full of space, but the applications are not installed. The first step is to delete unnecessary files and clear the cache. Well, let's get started, 5 life-saving steps are waiting for you.

Step 1. Remove unnecessary applications

With such an abundance of programs on Google Play, users often download them without hesitation.

If an app doesn't live up to expectations or is little used, it's often forgotten about.

This is because, unlike iOS, many Android phones can have several pages in the system tray.

If the program does not hang on the desktop or is not updated regularly, you may not even know that you have it.

Open Settings, select Applications, go through the list and look for apps you don't need. If you are ready to say goodbye, select the program and press Delete.

Step 2. Move photos and videos from internal memory

It is possible that your internal memory has accumulated a lot of unnecessary or duplicated photos and videos, and they take up a lot of space.

There are two ways to clear the Gallery:
1. Go in and just delete everything you don't need.
2. Download the Google Photos app.

It can be used to back up files to a Google server so that you can delete them from your phone later.

You may need to free up some memory before you can download this app.

It is best to use both methods, in any case, you will have a backup copy - in case the phone is lost or broken.

Files can be accessed from any device logged into a Google account. Files are easy to move to a new phone, and convenient to always have at hand.

Step 3: Clean Up Your Downloads Folder

Every time you download a PDF or other document, it stays in the Downloads folder. If the files are no longer needed, delete them.

Your device should have a File Manager by default. If not, there are many free apps on Google Play that have this feature. Just open Downloads and remove all unnecessary.

If you use WhatsApp, you should also go here: Whatsapp-Media-Images-Sent folder. It is possible that a huge number of unnecessary files are stored here.

Step 4. Clear the cache

If you have already deleted all unnecessary files, but the error “not enough space in the device’s memory” is still issued, clear the cache.

With most Androids, this is solved like this: go to Settings – Memory (Storage) – Cache data (Cached data) and on the offer to delete the cached data, click OK.

You can manually delete the application cache: Settings - Applications - select each application and click Clear cache. If you have Android Marshmallow, then go to Settings - Applications - choose an application - Memory - Clear cache.

If this does not work or you do not want to do it, download a special application. Just make sure you have enough space for it.

And now we will introduce you to one such program.

Step 5Make your life easier with App Cache Cleaner

The free app Cache Cleaner - 1Tap Clean can make the cleaning process easier.

What can prevent you from installing a new app from Google Play? Just a lack of memory. Suddenly, your Android smartphone writes “Not enough memory”, although there is space.
What to do? You can see that there are enough free megabytes both on the Micro SD card and in the internal memory. But how to explain this to a smartphone?

1. When memory is really low

In fairness, it must be said that sometimes a smartphone is right. For example, if you focus only on the space on the map, and the installation of the application is not provided there. Or if the application needs additional space to work.

Then like it or not, you have to free up space. There are several proven ways to do this:

  • Remove unnecessary applications. This question is already exclusively for you: perhaps the old games are no longer so interesting? Or do you have several applications installed that duplicate each other?
  • Move apps to Micro SD card when possible. On this topic, we have.
  • Clear the cache using special utilities (for example, CCleaner). Sometimes it takes up surprisingly much space, being, in fact, unnecessary.
  • Clear memory manually using Root Explorer or another file manager. This approach is very effective, but requires knowledge. Deleting the wrong files will make your smartphone inoperable. Therefore, before manual cleaning, be sure to make a backup.
  • Reset the entire system and reinstall applications via Titanium Backup. This is a slightly more complicated way. For it, you also need to have the Titanium Backup application installed. Make backup copies of all applications with settings. Reset the system completely. Install Titanium Backup again and restore applications from backups. This method does a good job of cleaning the system of garbage and often adds several hundred megabytes to free memory.

2. When there seems to be enough memory

There are situations when a smartphone or tablet refuses to install an application not only on a memory card, but also in internal memory. At the same time, there is enough free space. How to force Android to face the truth and still install the application?

There are several ways that might work:

  • Clear cache of Google Play apps and Google Service Framework. Open the Settings menu, select these two apps and clear their cache. After that, restart your smartphone. If there is free space, the device will now be able to use it.
  • Uninstall Play Update. To do this, go to Settings, find the Applications item there, and Google Play in the list. Tap on it and in the page that opens, select the "Uninstall updates" button. It is recommended to do in case clearing the cache did not help.
  • Clear Dalvik cache. Turn off your smartphone and turn it on in Recovery mode (usually you need to hold the power button and the volume button to do this). Select Wipe cache partition from the menu. If you have not encountered this before, then we will tell you: the touch screen does not work in this mode, you need to select it with the volume buttons. In this item, select the Advanced Options sub-item, and in it - Wipe Dalvik Cache. This action will flush the Dalvik cache and not only free up some space, but also help the system work efficiently with the existing one.

To avoid such problems in the future, you can use the Link2SD or Folder Mount utilities, which will help you virtually merge the Micro SD and internal memory into a single array. Remember that in this case the memory card becomes virtually non-removable, so before this operation, get a sufficiently voluminous Micro SD.

When you try to update an installed application or download a new one from the Play Market, you may receive a warning message that your device does not have enough free memory to complete the operation. This notification interrupts the process, and it can occur both if there really is not enough memory, and when there is actually enough free space.

Causes of a Memory Error

The error "Your device does not have enough memory" occurs if the files that need to be downloaded to install or update a game or application weigh more than can fit in the main memory of your device. But there are times when this problem can occur with enough memory.

When downloading the application, the Play Market writes that there is not enough space on the devices

How to get rid of the error

You can find out if you have enough space in the device settings by going to the "Memory" section. It describes which memory is the main memory - the device memory or a memory card, - how much space is occupied and what it is clogged with. If you are convinced that you do not have enough space, then you need to free it. There is no other way to get rid of the “Not enough memory” message.

In the "Memory" window, you can see what the space on the device is used for

Please note that if the volume of files that you need to download from the Play Market is even slightly less than what you have, then an error may still appear, since part of the memory should always remain unoccupied. Therefore, the total amount of memory should exceed the size of the downloaded application by several megabytes.

Purification through settings

To clear the phone's memory through "Settings":

Clearing memory manually

Manual cleaning is the removal of everything that can be removed. See what apps you're not using. Media files - such as music, photos, etc. - can be transferred to a memory card or third-party media.

Delete unnecessary files from the device memory

The most convenient way to check the device's memory is through Explorer: open any file manager available on the device and open all folders one by one, deleting unnecessary files. But keep in mind that you can only erase items that you have uploaded. In no case do not touch the system files, this will damage the device.

Automatic memory clearing

You can clean the device of temporary, frozen and broken files automatically if you use one of the third-party programs designed for this. For example, you can download the free version of CCleaner from the Play Market and clear the device's memory of everything unnecessary by clicking only the "Clear" button. Scanning should be done every time you need free space, as extra files accumulate again over time.

An error has appeared, but there is a place

There are cases when a message about the lack of space appears, but there is actually free memory. Please note that on some devices, the memory can be divided, that is, not all free space is given to applications. But if you are sure that there is enough memory, then the matter is in the Play Market application, which incorrectly receives information about the device. To fix this, you must first restart your device. If it doesn't help, follow these steps:

  1. Once in System Preferences, expand the Applications tab. Open the "Applications" tab in "Settings"
  2. Go to the "All" section and find the Play Market in it. Open information about the Play Market in "Applications"
  3. Stop it, clear cache and data. After that, restart your device again and check if the error is gone. Stop the application, clear its cache and data, restart
  4. If the error persists, then do the same with the Google Service Framework and Google Play Services. These two apps can be found in the same "All" list. We reset the services related to the Play Market - Google Services Framework and "Google Play Services"
  5. After that, return to the Play Market and uninstall the updates, thereby rolling it back to the original version. When you connect to a Wi-Fi network, the store will automatically update itself to the latest version. Reboot the device: now the error will not occur.
Delete store updates with a similar button in the application menu

"Out of memory" error outside the Play Market

There are cases, although rare, when a similar error about lack of memory occurs outside the store, for example, when installing an application from an apk file. If you really do not have free memory allocated for applications, then follow the instructions described above.

If you are sure that there is a place, and this error occurs not only with one application, but in all cases, then this indicates damage to system files. The best solution is to copy all important information from the device to a third-party reliable media and roll back the device to factory settings.

How not to run into a similar problem in the future

To avoid encountering the "Not enough space" error in the future, you need to follow the following rules:

  • keep track of what your device's memory is used for;
  • clear temporary files and cache every few weeks;
  • delete applications only in the correct way, and not by erasing the files related to them: incorrect deletion will lead to the fact that many elements from the removed program will remain in the file system;
  • do not overload the memory with unnecessary applications and games.

You have encountered an error when your device does not have enough memory to perform any action - first make sure that there is enough memory, and if it really is not enough, reset the Play Market settings and all services related to it. If the error occurred outside the store, reset the device settings after creating a backup copy of the information stored in the system.

“The application could not be installed / updated because the device memory is full” - many Android users have seen such an inscription more than once. How to make up for the lack of MB and whether you need to do it at all, read our article.

How to check the amount of free memory

If you see a message about the lack of memory, the first thing to check is its (memory) state. Perhaps some update or downloaded file weighed more than you thought, and now the system really does not have enough free megabytes to complete the specified procedure. So, to check the state of the phone's memory:

If megabytes are really not enough, let's clean the phone from unnecessary data. If enough, we will look for the cause of the problem and fix it.

How to free up more memory on your device

If there is too much information stored on your device, the easiest option for clearing memory is to move some of the files to another device. It is not difficult to do this, you just need to transfer the taken photos and videos, downloaded files, etc. to them. We are mainly interested in the following folders:

But what if they are all empty, and MB is still not enough? There are several options for freeing up additional memory, and we will dwell on each of them separately.

Cleaning the cache (Dalvik cache, general and individual applications)

On any device that has access to the Internet, there is a cache - an intermediate buffer in memory that provides quick access to temporary files. This allows you not to load the page completely with each access to it, but to store part of the data in the system memory and retrieve it on the first request. On the one hand, this is convenient, because The site loads quickly, no matter how low the connection speed is. On the other hand, we have memory clogged with unnecessary files and slowing down the system itself. Therefore, even if you have not yet encountered the error discussed in the article, you should clear the cache on Android at least once a month. By the way, you can do this in three ways:

  • Delete all cache stored on the phone

To do this, go to "Settings", open the "Memory" section and look for the "Cache" item in it. We click on it and agree to the removal. A couple of seconds, and the treasured megabytes were released on our phone.

  • Delete the cache of a specific application

If you are only missing a few MB, it is not necessary to erase all temporary files. Sometimes it is quite possible to get by with the cache of some resource-intensive program. To do this, you just need to open the "Settings" menu, select the "Application" item and find the application of interest to us in the list provided. Open it and look for the "Clear Cache" button. We click on it and observe how the amount of free memory increases by the treasured megabytes.

  • Wipe Dalvik Cache by Putting Your Device into Recovery Mode

Dalvik cache is a temporary compilation of application code that is stored as executable files. Removing them does not cause any harm to the performance of the gadget. Therefore, to free up a few extra MB in this way, we do the following:

  • We turn off the phone.
  • We launch it in Recovery mode (the combination of buttons for different devices will be different, you can find it out from the instructions or on the official website of the manufacturer).
  • In the menu that appears, first select the item Wipe cache partition, and then alternately - Advanced Options and Wipe Dalvik Cache.
  • After the unnecessary files are deleted, turn off the phone and restart it in normal mode.

Note! In Recovery mode, the touch display is disabled, the menu is navigated using the volume buttons, and the selection is made with the start button.

However, you need to understand that by deleting the cache, you do not get rid of it forever. Temporary files will be re-placed in the device's memory as soon as you go to the site or open the application.

Removing unnecessary data from the sections "Downloads" and "Other"

Files downloaded from the Internet, as well as data that the system cannot attribute to any of the prescribed categories, also take up a lot of space. You can get rid of them in different ways. If you know in which folder or folders the download is being made, open them and clean them manually. If not, use the following diagram:

If you are afraid to delete something you need, but you cannot identify the file by its name, click on it and it will open for viewing.

Cleaning with utilities

If you do not want to deal with phone settings, you can clear the cache and much faster. Special applications will help you with this, you can download any of which in the Play Market. To start scanning the system, click the start button. The system will analyze all the files stored on the phone, find among them temporary and no longer needed. Then click on "Clear" or "Delete" and get rid of the garbage on your gadget.

The most popular cleaning applications are:

  • Clean Master is one of the most popular memory cleaning and virus protection apps. It has extensive functionality and allows you to free up not only ordinary memory, but also RAM.
  • Ccleaner quickly finds obsolete and residual files, allows you to remove several applications at a time, quickly stops running tasks, and puts background programs into hibernation mode in 1 click.
  • noxcleaner. The program is interesting in that it independently removes any third-party applications that have not been used for more than a month, and itself weighs very little (8 MB, version 1.2.5).

Also in the Play Market there are various "Application Managers" that help you manage programs (install, remove, move, etc.) on your phone. However, for full functioning, many of them require root rights, which can adversely affect the security of the gadget.

Removing apps

The lion's share of the internal memory of the phone is occupied by third-party applications and games. Therefore, if you are thinking about cleaning your device, start with them. As a rule, users erase programs that have become unnecessary according to a simplified scheme: they pinch the icon on the home screen or in the general menu, and then drag it to the trash. Or open the application page in the Play Market and click the "Delete" button. However, the cache and some entries after such deletion may remain in the device's memory, settling there as a dead weight. Therefore, if you want to erase the application without a trace, we suggest using the following method:

Done, on the device, neither the application itself nor the files related to it are anymore. Account data is stored in your Google cloud profile, so if you want to reinstall the game, your progress will not be lost.

Transfer applications to external storage

If there are not enough free MB, and you don’t want to delete applications, you can try transferring them to an external drive. We’ll say right away that this option does not work for all firmware and not for all programs. However, why not try. To make a transfer:

If there is no such button, it means that the developer has intentionally prohibited installation anywhere other than internal memory. And you can free up space by transferring only if the user has root rights.

Manual cleaning with root rights

We consider it necessary to start talking about this method with a warning:

If something goes wrong during the installation process (download a virus-infected application, make a mistake in the actions, etc.), then there is a risk of getting "" instead of a phone. And devices with superuser rights are not covered by the service warranty. Therefore, you perform further actions at your own peril and risk.

To get root rights, select the application that suits your phone model from the list below and install it:

  • 360 root.
  • Baidu Root.
  • DingDong Root.
  • Romaster S.U.
  • Root Dashi.
  • root genius.
  • Root Zhushou.

Run the program, after which you can delete through it (or by the usual deletion described above) system applications, files from the data folder and other components that are forbidden to be deleted.

Every user at least once faces the problem of downloading files to mobile devices. You are trying to download an application on Android, for example, from the official Google store, but the system notifies you that this is not possible because there is not enough memory on your smartphone or tablet. But you know for sure that there is free space. What to do in this case? Correct the situation by using one of the following methods.
We will start with simple options (they are the most reliable and effective), and in the end we will look at complex methods (their use may be unsafe for the device).

I would like to start the article-instruction with important notes:

  • First note. If you are sure that the internal memory is not exhausted, do not forget that it will never be used to the end. There must always be space on the device, otherwise the software will not be able to work. Therefore, when downloading files, you receive such a notification.
  • Second note. If the file is downloaded to the SD card, this does not mean that the memory inside the mobile device may be full. It must have enough free space to download, as it is also used.
  • Third note. Do not clear the internal memory of your smartphone or tablet using special utilities. If you are promised to free up space, get rid of unnecessary applications, etc., and even in automatic mode, do not be fooled. All you will achieve is to slow down the smartphone and “land” the battery.

How to quickly clear Android memory (the easiest way)

For unprepared users who first saw such a notification when downloading an apk file, we recommend that you use the simplest and most effective way - clear the cache. Just like in the browser, these files take up a lot of disk space (in our case, internal memory).

The cache is easy to clean, even if the day before yesterday you picked up a smartphone or tablet for the first time. From your mobile device's Settings, go to "Storage and USB drives" or the "Storage" section. A little lower you will see "Cache Data".

Confirm cache deletion.

As you can see, the cache takes up a lot of space. Click on the item and delete all this data. Now download the file again. Did it help?

In the same way that we cleared the general cache, you can also delete application files individually. A lot of space is occupied by the cache of web browsers, applications for storing and editing photos, and others. If you see a notification about insufficient memory after you have updated an already installed application, delete its data and try again.

How to clear the application cache separately? From the Settings, go to Applications, select the one you need and click on the "Storage" item. A corresponding button will appear, which you need to click on. It is recommended, among other things, to "Clear data" of the "problem" application.

When you open the Applications, you will see the size opposite each of them. The indicated size is always less than the amount of occupied memory, which is why it seems that there is a lot of free space.

Removing unnecessary applications, moving to SD card

Getting rid of unnecessary applications from time to time is a useful exercise. If we use devices - smartphone, tablet, computer and others - in internal memory for a long time, a lot of garbage accumulates on the disks. From the Device Settings, go to Applications and make a revision by deleting what has not been used for a long time, does not start.

If you are using flash memory, transfer some of the applications there. You can transfer only those files that were downloaded from an external source (and even then not all), and not those that are preinstalled. Click on an individual application and press the corresponding button to move. In this way, you can free up enough memory space inside your tablet or smartphone.

Additional ways to fix the error "Not enough memory on the device"

The methods that we list below are effective, but may come with consequences. It won't necessarily happen, but we can't help but warn you. By using them, you take responsibility.

Deleting updates and data "Google Play Services" and "Play Store"

When everything is finished, try downloading the app. You may need to update Google Play Services beforehand.

Clearing Dalvik Cache

This method is not suitable for all mobile devices on the Android platform. Follow these three steps:
  1. Open the Recovery mode menu (search the web for information on how to enter this mode, as the options differ on each device).
To select a specific action in recovery mode, you need to press the volume button, and to confirm it - click on the power button (shortly).
  2. We need Wipe cache partition (clearing the cache). Don't even look in the direction of Wipe Data Factory Reset. Clicking this item will erase all user information and reset the mobile device to its original settings.
  3. After selecting Wipe cache partition, click Advanced and Wipe Dalvik Cache alternately.
Once the cache is cleared, boot up your smartphone or tablet as usual.

Cleaning the folder in data (requires Root)

Root rights are required to use this option.
  1. Open the app folder and go to /data/app-lib/its_name/. The "lib" folder must be removed. Check if it helped.
  2. If you still receive a notification about insufficient memory on your smartphone / tablet, delete the folder with the application completely ( /data/app-lib/its_name/).
If you have access rights, open the file manager, go to data/log and empty the folder.

Unverified ways to fix the error

And finally, we left options that were not tested by us. We found them on Stack Overflow. This is a popular question and answer system from British programmers.

Try the following:

  • Using Root Explorer, file manager, transfer some applications from data/app to the /system/app/ folder.
  • If your smartphone is from Samsung, type the command *#9900# to clear the log files.
This is how you can fix a common problem when there is not enough space in the internal memory of smartphones or tablets on the Android platform to download new applications or update previously installed ones. If you know another effective way, please share with us.
