Setting up a netgear router for playing warface. Configuring Netgear Router Binding to MAC Address

It is worth admitting that NETGEAR routers are not as popular as the same D-Link, but the same questions arise quite often. In this article, we will analyze in more detail how to connect a NETGEAR JWNR2000 router to a computer and configure it for Internet access.

So, let's begin…

Connecting to a computer and entering settings

It is logical that before configuring the device, you need to connect it correctly and enter the settings. First, you need to connect at least one computer to the LAN ports of the router using the cable that came with the router. LAN ports on such a router are yellow (see screenshot below).

The provider's Internet cable is connected to the blue port of the router (WAN / Internet). Then turn on the router.

If everything went well, you should notice on the computer, which is connected by cable to the router, that the tray icon will signal to you that a local network has been established without access to the Internet.

If you write that there is no connection, although the router is turned on, the LEDs flash on it, the computer is connected to it - then, or rather the network adapter (it is possible that the old settings of your network are still in effect).

Now you can launch any of the browsers that are installed on your computer: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.

In the address bar, enter: 192.168.1.1

Enter the word as password and login: admin

If you can't get in, it is possible that the default settings from the manufacturer were reset by someone (for example, in the store they could "poke" the settings when checking). To reset the settings - there is a RESET button on the back of the router - press it and hold it for 150-20 seconds. This will reset the settings and you can log in.

By the way, when you connect for the first time, you will be asked if you want to launch the quick settings wizard. I suggest choosing "no" and clicking on "next" and setting everything up yourself.

Internet and Wi-Fi setup

On the left in the column in the "installation" section, select the tab " basic settings«.

Further, the configuration of the router will depend on the construction of the network of your Internet provider. You will need the parameters for accessing the network, which you should have been told upon connection (for example, a leaf in the contract with all the parameters). Among the main parameters, I would single out: connection type (PPTP, PPPoE, L2TP), login and password for access, DNS and IP addresses (if required).

Therefore, depending on your type of connection, in the " internet service provider"- choose your option. Next, enter your password and login.

Server address is often required. For example, in Billine it represents vpn.internet.beeline.ru.

Important ! Some ISPs bind your MAC address when you connect to the Internet. Therefore, be sure to enable the "use the computer's MAC address" option. The main thing here is to use the MAC address of your network card through which you were previously connected to the Internet. Learn more about cloning a MAC address -.

In the same section "settings" there is a tab " wireless parameters“, Go to it. Let's consider in more detail what you need to enter here.

Name (SSID): An important parameter. the name is required so that you can quickly recognize your network when searching and connecting via Wi-Fi. Especially important in cities, when you see a dozen W-Fi networks while searching - which one is yours? You can be guided only by name ...

Region: choose the one you are in. They say that it contributes to better operation of the router. I personally don't know how doubtful it is ...

Channel: I always choose automatically, or auto. It is written differently in different firmware versions.

Mode: despite the ability to set the speed to 300 Mbps, choose the one that is supported by your devices that will connect to the network. If you don't know, I recommend experimenting by starting with a minimum of 54 Mbps.

Security options: This is an important point because if you do not encrypt the connection, then all your neighbors will be able to connect to it. Do you need it? Moreover, it is good if the traffic is unlimited, but if not? Yes, no one needs an extra load on the network. I recommend choosing WPA2-PSK mode, which is one of the most secure ones today.

Password: enter any password, of course, "12345678" is not needed, too simple. By the way, note that the minimum password length is 8 characters, for your own safety. By the way, in some routers you can specify a shorter length, NETGEAR is incorruptible in this ...

That's all, good luck to everyone ...

New generation routers acquire more and more complex design, becoming, at the same time, easier to use and configure, so an article on how to set up a NETGEAR router using the NETGEAR N300 model as an example will be useful to many. Today, even an ordinary user is able to create a wired or radio connection to the Internet, having in his hands a step-by-step algorithm of actions.

Preparing devices

To start connecting the n300 router to the Internet, you need to perform a number of preliminary steps:

  • Connect the power supply to the back panel and turn on the device to the network;
  • Plug in the WAN cable and connect your PC with a second patch cable (plugged into one of the five dedicated ports);
  • Press the power button, which is moved to the front panel for this model.

After these manipulations, the indicator lights should indicate that the device is turned on in one of the ports and the power cord is connected to the router, which means: you can proceed to the software setting.

It starts with setting the automatic receipt of IP and DNS addresses by the router. To do this, we need to get into the settings panel of the adapter for wired and wireless networks. The algorithm for Windows 7 and 8 is as follows:

  • Right-click on the network connection icon in the right corner of the monitor;
  • Open the Control Center and select the adapter settings in the side menu;
  • Right click - properties of the current cable connection;
  • In the window that opens, we are looking for the line of settings for the fourth version of the Internet protocol, open the properties (by clicking on the button a little below);
  • The settings selectors for both items of the new window must be set to the value of automatic receipt;
  • We save the settings, close the open windows.

Modem configuration

To get into the area of the web configurator of the router and connect the Internet, you must enter the following ip in the address bar of any browser - 192.168.1.1

To enter the settings, open your browser and enter the address: HTTP://192.168.1.1

Then, in the form that appears, enter the login "admin" and the password "password". Click on Ok and go to the main settings menu. A feature of the Netgear n300 model is that the instructions for setting up a connection will differ with different Internet providers. And the first difference is the presence of a dynamic or static IP.

If your ISP (and most of them) work with dynamic ip-addresses (that is, you are assigned a new address for each new session), then the configuration should go as follows:

  • In the menu on the left, select the Internet item;
  • We refuse to enter information when connected to the Internet;
  • We do not specify anything in the name of the account and domain;
  • We specify the automatic receipt of ip-addresses and DNS servers;
  • In the event that the provider does not work with binding to MAC addresses, leave this setting item with the default value and set the "address of this PC" otherwise;
  • We save the changes and check the functionality of the connection.

If your provider uses a connection using the PPPoE protocol, for example, as with Rostelecom or DOM.RU, the configuration is carried out as follows:

  • Open the Internet menu item;
  • In the first selector, set the value to "Yes";
  • Next, select the "PPPoE" connection type;
  • Below we indicate the authorization data that the provider provided to us in the contract;
  • The network connection mode must be constant, therefore "Always on";
  • As in the previous case, we select the automatic setting of addresses;
  • If your provider is Dom.ru (it uses binding to MAC addresses), set the selector to use your computer's address in the last paragraph of the settings;
  • We save the results, open any site for verification.

If your provider uses an L2TP connection, as in the case if your operator is Beeline, the instructions above will change as follows:

  • Instead of PPoE, select the connection type for your router - L2TP;
  • Manually register the address of the server of the Internet provider (for Beeline it is tp.internet.beeline.ru).

For the rest, we use the same settings (without binding to the MAC address of your device). We check the automatic IP acquisition and save the changes. After that, the wired network of the Netgear n300 router should work.

Wi-Fi setup

In order to connect a wifi network on the n300 model, follow these steps:

  • Open the item from the menu on the left "Wi-Fi network";
  • A new window opens: in the line with the name, set the name for your wireless connection;
  • The channel selection can be left automatic, or you can set your own value if there are many other wireless networks around;
  • The connection mode must pass up to 300 Mbps;
  • In the security parameters, select the last selector (the most advanced encryption type);
  • In the area for specifying the password, enter our key, which must contain numbers and letters (preferably in different case);
  • We apply the changes and try to log into any website via wifi.

How do I update the firmware?

So that in the future the router can be connected to the Internet without any problems, you need to install the latest software version, that is, to reflash the device. This is done in several stages:

  • The first step is to enter the manufacturer's official website and download the most recent firmware version, for example jwnr2000v2;
  • Disconnect the device's Internet cable, but leave the one that connects it to the computer;
  • We enter the device settings menu, click on the firmware number in the page header;
  • Select the update file on the computer by clicking on the Browse button;
  • Load, wait for the router to reboot and we can go to the settings again;
  • Download the configuration file from the official website or disk;
  • Select "Settings Management" in the router menu, then - "Restore Settings";
  • Download the required file from the computer and wait for its installation.

Then try again to go to the settings page, and then insert the WAN cable (Internet) and enter any site. If everything works, congratulations! You managed to connect the Internet to the Netgear router yourself.

If something went wrong, you can return the settings to the factory defaults. To do this, there is a Reset button on the rear panel of the device, holding it down to wait 10-15 seconds. Then we release it and wait until the n300 starts up. After that, you can try again to configure the Internet and update the firmware.

Hello, on this page I will explain in detail how to configure the netgear n150 Wifi router. We will look at how to connect a router to a computer, how to set up connections with a router. Also, we will take a closer look at setting up various types of Internet connections that are suitable for any provider. So let's get started.

Connecting a netgear router

It is quite simple to do this and anyone can set up the connection intuitively. In order for you not to think for a long time, I will describe.

We connect the power supply to the router >> We insert the Internet wire into a special WAN port (usually it is blue) >> Then, with a short wire (Patch cord), we connect the router to the computer, inserting it into any yellow port (LAN), and the other end into computer network card >> then we turn on the router to the network. All your router is successfully connected. For clarity, see the figure below.

After connecting, you need to configure the network card so that it receives data automatically, how to do this is described in detail.

Logging into the router

After connecting and configuring the network card, we will enter the configuration interface of the netgear n150 WNR612v2 router. To do this, open any browser, write 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter. The authorization window will be displayed, you need to enter the data. You can find them on the back cover of the router. Usually by default they are: Username admin, Password password. Then click on the "Login" button.

If you are setting up your netgear n150 router for the first time, after logging in, you will be presented with a welcome screen. Here you are asked whether you want to configure the router on a semiautomatic device or manually. I advise everyone to configure the router manually in order to avoid problems in the future. To do this, put a dot in front of the inscription "No, I am an advanced user ...", and click on the "Next" button.

After that, the main page of the router settings interface will open in front of you.

Setting up the Internet on a netgear n150 router

This model supports all types of Internet connections, for any provider. We'll look at them.

Cloning the MAC address. Configuring binding by mac address.

Some providers have a poppy address binding. In order for your router to successfully connect to the network, you need to assign the same poppy address as the provider. To do this, you need the "Router MAC Address" section.

There are three points in this section:

  1. "Use default address" - use if the provider does not have a poppy address binding.
  2. "Use MAC address automatically" - is used if the computer on which you are setting up the router was connected to the Internet.
  3. "Use this MAC address" - in the field next to it, enter the poppy address that is recorded by your provider. You can find out from those support.

Setting up Wifi on a netgear n150 router

After connecting and setting up the Internet, you need to set up a WiFi connection. To configure Wi-Fi, you need to go to the "Wireless connection settings" section. In the "Name (SSID)" field, indicate the name of your network that you want to see in the list of network connections. Then go to the "Security Settings" section and put a dot in front of "WPA2-PSK". After setting the point, an additional tab "WPA2-PSK wireless connection settings" will open and in the "Passphrase:" field, set the password to Wi-Fi. To create a home network with Internet access, we ended up with a NetGear WNR614 router (see photo below). An entry-level switch with 5 RJ-45 ports and two Wi-Fi antennas. The technical equipment is sufficient for organizing an access point in or a small office.

It is assumed that you already have a high-speed Internet connection. Since it only makes it possible to connect to the Internet connection for all users within the radius of the coverage area. NetGear WNR614 is one of many models that allows you to open access to the global network for any gadget that has a wireless connection or an Ethernet connector in a couple of minutes.

Internet connection setup

To start configuring the router, connect it to the mains using the power supply included in the package. Next, insert the Internet cable into the blue connector or connect the router and the terminal, which is also included in the equipment package.

Now, using a laptop or desktop, we will get access to the web interface of the router NetGear WNR614. Let's use the patch cord and connect the PC and the router directly, taking one more of the four free ports. The "Ethernet" network adapter should receive an IP address, and then open browser and enter at:
192.168.1.1
A dialog box will ask you to enter your username and password. Factory data for authorization:
username: admin
Password: password

Note! At the end of the setup, we strongly recommend that you avoid access to the router by third parties (see postscript).

On the page that opens, a menu of several basic settings will appear, as well as two tabs. The latter allow you to go from basic to advanced customization options. We are interested in the item "Internet" and "Wireless".

Note! It is worth considering that by default the router interface will be completely in English. The ability to change the language will appear as soon as we set up an Internet connection.

On clicking, we open the "Internet" item, where you will need to make some edits and specify the login and password you received from your Internet provider.

  • Does your Internet connection require a login? (in Russian: Whether you need to enter a username and password when connecting to the Internet) Mark "Yes";
  • Internet Service Provider (in Russian: Connection type ) choose “ PPPoE »
  • Login (Login ) and Password (password ) we enter in accordance with the data from the contract with the Internet provider (case-sensitive);

  • Leave the rest of the network parameters by default. Their names and purposes can be viewed later after the interface is localized.

Recheck the data for connection, and then click the button "Apply » ( Apply). Wait until the end of the process of saving the settings,what the visual progress bar will notify you about.

Now we are trying to change the language. At the top right, we find the drop-down menu "English », by clicking, select "Russian" from the list. Then we are waiting for the language update (the speed directly depends on your Internet).

Create a wireless hotspot

When the Internet connection is set up,and the interface is set to Russian, you can proceed toWi-Fi. Actually, the process is no different from the creation of any other wireless hotspot.

We open the item "Wi-Fi net» , where we see several familiar options;

  • Above we indicate the region, from the drop-down list select "Russia » ;
  • Below we enter the Name (SSID ), the name for your access point (in Latin letters, for example "Dom-internet ») ;
  • In the “Channel” item, we leave the value “Auto”, and for “Mode” we can specify the speed “up to 54 Mbit / s”;
  • The items "Enable SSID broadcasting" and "Enable sharing of 20/40 MHz frequencies" - leave checked by default;
  • Specify “ WPA2-PSK ", And below enter" Passphrase "- at least 8 characters.

You can configure a NETGEAR router from any web browser, or using a special program - Netgear Genie, which will be more useful for beginners. Like all devices from netgear, setting up a router is simple, intuitive, a menu in Russian. Although some of the settings have minor differences depending on the firmware version, the basic settings are the same for all models in this series.

Connecting the router to a computer for configuration

Before you start configuring your router, you must connect it to your computer. To do this, connect the device to a computer (or a laptop similarly) with a network cable supplied with the router, one end to any of the LAN ports of the router (see figure), and the other end to the computer's network card.

Back panel of NETGEAR WNR3500L router

The figure indicates that the netgear router connects to any of the yellow ports.

After connecting the router to the power supply and turning it on with the "Power on / off" button, launch any web browser on the computer, in which we enter the device's IP address 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. This is the factory default address.

A window should appear in which you need to enter a username and password to enter the settings menu. If this did not happen, then, probably, the router has already been subjected to settings earlier, as a result of which its IP address was changed. To get out of this situation, you need to reset the settings to the factory settings by pressing the reset button on the back of the router. This will also reset the username and password.

Entering the settings menu of the NETGEAR WNR3500L router

If there are no problems with the connection, the first window will open in which you need to enter a name and password to enter the router settings menu.

Entering username and password to enter the settings menu

By default, the manufacturer sets the username "admin" and the password "password". Enter the data in the appropriate fields and click the "OK" button.

Updating the router firmware

The next window will be a warning that there is no Internet connection.

Click the "OK" button. The main settings menu will appear, in which we go to the "Settings" section, then "Basic settings".

Section "Basic settings"

Next, we configure the connection to the Internet:

  1. In the line "Do I need to enter a username and password when connecting to the Internet?" click "No";
  2. In the line "Account name" we leave "WNR3500L";
  3. In the line "IP - address of the Internet port" select "get automatically from the provider";
  4. In the line "IP address of the DNS server" we also select "get automatically from the provider";
  5. In the line "MAC address of the router" select "Use default address".

After entering, press the "Apply" button. The netgear wnr3500l router will automatically reboot and the entered data will take effect. After restarting the router, you can verify that it is connected to the Internet by going to the Maintenance tab in the Router Status submenu.

In the window that opens, in the "Internet port" field, we will see the parameters assigned by the provider. For more confidence, you can simply open any site in the same web browser.

Router wireless settings

To configure a Wi-Fi wireless network, go to the "Installation" tab, then the "Wireless connection settings" submenu. In the "Name (SSID)" field, enter the invented name of our wireless network. For example, NETGEAR. In the "Security Settings" menu, select the most secure connection - WPA2-PSK. In the "phrase-password" field, we come up with and enter a password that will need to be entered when connecting other network devices to the created Wi-Fi network. The password must be at least 8 characters long, consisting of the Latin alphabet and numbers.

It should be noted that after making any changes to the settings of the router, you must confirm with the "Apply" button, and not just close the web browser. Otherwise, the settings will not be taken into account and saved.

Updating Router Firmware

It is not necessary, but advisable to regularly check for the latest firmware for your router on the manufacturer's website http://www.netgear.ru/. In new firmware, firstly, detected errors are corrected, secondly, additional functions are added, and thirdly, existing ones are optimized.

To check for the latest firmware, go to the "Maintenance" tab, then to the "Router update" submenu. A window will open in which you can either specify an automatic search on the manufacturer's website by clicking the "Check" button, or specify the path to an already downloaded firmware.

Updating Router Firmware

Changing the password for entering the settings menu To do this, press the "Browse" button, indicate the path to the saved firmware, and press the "Load" button. After the update, the router will automatically restart.

It is also not necessary, but highly recommended, to change the password to enter the router settings menu. This is due to the fact that absolutely any user can enter the settings via the wireless network, knowing the network address of the device. The username and password are the only obstacles in his path.

To change the password, as above, go to the "Service" tab, and select the "Password Setting" sub-item.

Changing the password for entering the router settings menu

In the field "Old password" we enter the factory "password", in the next line "Set password" we enter a new one, in the third line "Repeat new password" we repeat the new password. Click the "Apply" button.

This completes the most basic setup of the netgear wifi router.

Restoring the router's performance

Sometimes, after incorrect configuration, internal failure, or unsuccessful flashing, the router stops showing signs of life. If it has not burned out at the physical level, then when it is connected to the network, the green power indicator will blink. In the figure, this is the topmost indicator.

NETGEAR WNR3500L Router Front Panel

In this case, you can try to bring him back to life. To do this, download a known working firmware to your computer's hard drive. Next, connect the router to your computer (how to connect a netgear router is described at the beginning of the article). The twisted pair should be connected only directly, there should not be any hubs or switches between them. Next, you need to make sure that the tftp client program is installed on your version of Windows. Starting from Windows Vista, the tftp client (as well as telnet) is missing by default for some reason. You can install the client in the control panel. To do this, go to the "Programs and Features" tab, then the "Enabling or disabling Windows components" tab.

The first step is to set up Windows. To do this, in the network properties, the TCP / IP protocol, assign the adapter the IP address 192.168.1.2, the netmask 255.255.255.0, and the gateway 192.168.1.1.

Next, we check that the router is in communication with the computer. To do this, we ping it by entering the ping 192.168.1.1 command in the black screen. After pressing "Enter", the following text should appear in the same window:

If there is a connection in the router - congratulations, most likely it will be possible to restore it.

Then, in the same black window, enter the command: tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put d: \ proshivka.chk, where instead of “d: \ proshivka.chk” we indicate the path where the downloaded firmware is located. It must be saved at the root of the disk. Press "Enter".

After a few seconds, the following message will appear: Transfer successful: 3706990 bytes in 7 seconds, 534554 bytes / s (the numbers may differ depending on the size of the firmware). We are waiting 10 minutes for the firmware to be installed and activated. The router will automatically restart and enter the working state. If nothing happens after 15 minutes, then the reboot, for some reason, did not happen, and you need to reboot the router manually.
