Server CONFIGURATOR is available in personal account, after registration in

When ordering a dedicated server, please check the availability of the selected configuration with the sales department.

For large-scale projects that require more resources and performance than shared hosting gives them, renting a server will be an actual service. For project owners requiring increased security and reliability, this service will also ideal solution.

The term "dedicated server" (or dedicated server) means physical machine, which is used to create and scale projects. To provide program control Dedicated hardware is also used over the equipment used. Rented servers are located on specially equipped and secure data center sites.

Such sites are equipped special systems protection and cooling, as well as uninterrupted supply electricity.

The physical server goes through mandatory check and testing before it is leased. Control over the work of a dedicated server and its administration is carried out around the clock. All technical problems are resolved on a priority basis.

Benefits of a dedicated server

A physical server differs from standard hosting in that it is provided exclusively for one client. On the shared hosting usually hosts hundreds of clients, and the dedicated server capabilities help improve site stability. The user will not depend on a "neighbor" who can send spam or download a crooked script, the consequences of which affect all "cohabitants" of the hosting.

The ability to make changes to the software is another advantage of the physical server. The hardware can withstand the various loads that the project owner creates. Besides full control, physical servers provide the following benefits:

  • the ability to monitor all user actions, processes and files;
  • no unnecessary software provided by the hoster (the owner of the dedicated server installs only the necessary software, thereby not overloading the work of the "hardware").

Server rental in Cloud4box

Renting a dedicated server in Cloud4box is a profitable solution for any OS, which allows you to profitably save resources and time. Using own server, installed at home or in the office, you must independently monitor the operation of all components and constantly provide a stable power supply and connection to global network... Having decided to rent a Dedicated Server in Moscow, the owner of the project will forget about such problems forever.

This is due to the fact that our servers are located in modern and well-equipped data centers. Reliable communication, uninterrupted power supply servers and constant air conditioning provide our sites in the data center. The absence of interruptions is ensured due to the fact that our data centers are equipped with power supply channels from various substations. Allocation of separate channels is also an advantage of renting a dedicated server in Moscow. This happens without traffic restrictions.

Dedicated car rental in Moscow is a topical service for:

  • serious high-load Internet projects;
  • developing startups;
  • implementation of powerful computer online games;
  • web developers;
  • hosting providers;
  • corporate projects.

Hardware configuration also affects the final cost of a dedicated server. The sites of our clients are hosted exclusively on reliable and modern machines. The power of our Dedicated Server in Moscow is enough for even the most complex online projects. Renting a dedicated server at Cloud4box also guarantees that a qualified server will come to your aid. 24/7 support... Also, the advantages are the installation of any software of your choice, customization of work for your own tasks and a guarantee of the safety of the equipment used on our part.

So, would it be wise to buy a physical server or rent one? The answer is obvious. Renting in our company is also convenient because you do not need additional costs for transportation and installation of equipment. Dedicated servers are always ready to work in our data center. To operate the server, it is enough to pay its rent. You can order this service right now. We also have discounts to save your Money at long term lease - for example, for a year.

What is included in the cost of renting servers

Reasonable economy is one of necessary conditions the existence of a business, therefore, the question of price is often voiced immediately. There are no hidden fees in our company. You can ask your manager about how the price is formed. For some services, payment for the service is made only once.

If earlier you thought about it and could not understand how the final price for a server is formed, we are ready to talk about the formation of prices for dedicated servers in Cloud4box. It includes:

  • renting a server and components;
  • data center rack mounting;
  • traffic - Internet channel;
  • electricity;
  • possibility of backup power supply during emergency situations(power supply redundancy system in several levels);
  • IPv4 networks and addresses;
  • the work of managers and network engineers;
  • the work of data center technicians and the work of system administrators.

Where to rent a physical server?

Let's say you have decided on the server configuration. The question arises - should you choose a Dedicated Server in Moscow or in Russia, or should you take a closer look at the terms of lease abroad?

For those who will conduct work related to the processing and storage of personal data, the purchase of a physical server outside the Russian Federation is no longer in accordance with the Federal Law "On Personal Data" No. 152.

If Federal Law No. 152 does not concern the user, then he looks at a more attractive price offer abroad. Unfortunately, Lately it is difficult for Russian data centers to compete on price. But the cost of a dedicated server is not always a decisive factor. After all, when it comes to low ping, individual approach, fast processing emerging issues with prompt technical support, and indeed at least some guarantees, data center

Oh sure. We will not only collect required server, but we will also offer a unique price for the entire rental period. To do this, it is enough to contact the manager through the ticket in our billing panel.

How is the traffic rating on the server carried out?

Each dedicated server configuration includes unlimited traffic (inbound + outbound) at speeds up to 1000 Mbps. If your project requires an extended channel, you can order an extended channel up to 20 Gbps when configuring the service. To do this, just contact the manager through a ticket in our billing panel.

I have already rented a server from another company, can you help with data transfer?

Our technicians will be happy to transfer all the necessary data from the previous server to new server that you rent from our company. You can clarify the details and cost of the transfer by contacting the manager through the ticket in our billing panel.

Guaranteed 100 Mbps dedicated port, expandable.

Individual solutions for renting a dedicated server. We will advise, assemble, install!

Probably every notable project or just every large organization sooner or later faces a choice: buy a physical one or rent a virtual server? Let's try to figure out which is better and economically viable.

Physical server cost

First of all, you need to look after a physical server that will meet your expectations - so that you have some amount in front of your eyes and so that you can clearly see which option is more economically viable in your case.

We need to decide what we consider a server. If it's just a computer in an ordinary tower case, which will gather dust in the far corner of your office, that's one thing. In fact, you can install MS on my laptop too. SQL Server and make it a database server. But how quickly will such a base "fall" with a real load even of 5-10 users while working in 1C?

If this is how you imagine a server - a separate computer with, say, 16 GB of RAM and one terabyte - then you can stop reading and not waste your time. Better go to any online store to buy your workstation - this cannot be called a server.
In my view, a server is a machine with a server-side Xeon processor, register memory with ECC and hardware disk array... Such a "computer" has the right to be called a server. The case when placed inside the office and in the absence of server racks does not matter, but with an eye to the future I would look after the case in the 1U / 2U format - sooner or later you will come to the conclusion that it is better to store the server in the data center.

In fig. 1 shows an HP ProLiant DL180 Gen9 server:

  • Octa-core Intel Xeon E5-2620 v4 (2.1-3 GHz)
  • Registered memory with ECC, 16 GB
  • Smart Array P440 / 2G 12 GB Controller
  • Chassis Form Factor 2U

This is what the server is in my understanding. But such a "device" will cost about 162,250 rubles, according to Yandex.Market. There are cheaper versions of this server, but there or not hard disk in general, or the amount of memory is 8 GB, not 16. The configuration for 162 250 rubles includes one RDIMM module DDR memory 16GB and two 300GB SAS hard drives. This a good option, both in price and in configuration. Such a middle peasant - there are more expensive options, there are also cheaper ones. You can buy a Chinese Patriot - even with a license for MS Server 2012 it will cost less. But since you have become so serious that you need your own physical server, then it is better not to look at such options.

Do you need a physical server?

Now that you have the cost of hardware, let's think, do you need it at all? Very often a person agonizes over the choice of a server, although in fact he can do without it perfectly. The arguments “the neighbor has”, “I was advised” should be discarded right away. When should you think about purchasing your own server?

  • Site with very high attendance- when regular hosting can no longer withstand and the site is often turned off for exceeding the limits of processor time and / or traffic.
  • Large Internet project - a promoted online store, social network, game server and the like.
  • A portal with a lot of content - a photo bank like depositphotos.com, a site with a solid amount of music or videos.
  • The need for joint / remote work with some kind of application, for example 1C.

In all these cases, you need a server (mind you, which one - I'm not talking about it yet). In the rest (for example, when you have a relatively small website and only one accountant, on whose computer you can install 1C), it will turn out to be an unnecessary luxury. You can buy regular hosting to host your site and pay mere pennies for it - something about 240 rubles per month for 6 GB disk space... This space is enough even for several sites. If you were thinking of purchasing your own server for these needs, think again: the amount spent on hardware alone will be enough for more than 676 months (56 years!) Rent. And with such a long-term placement, you will also get a substantial discount :).

If your project falls into one of the listed categories, you definitely need a server. It remains only to decide which one, because in most cases you can get by with either a virtual dedicated server (VDS) or a virtual private server (VPS), which is much cheaper.

VDS or VPS

VPS ( Virtual private Server - virtual private server) is software virtualization and is implemented at the kernel level of the operating system. All machines are created on the basis of one server core, each virtual machine (this is the VPS that you will rent) is a server with a software environment, but without the right to change the kernel and the operating system itself. The most commonly used virtualization platforms are OpenVZ and Virtuozzo.

The advantage of this solution is one, and it is very significant - low cost... But there are many more disadvantages:

  • Overselling. RAM and kernel resources are allocated without being tied to a specific machine. For example, you and your neighbor rent two VPS servers of the same configuration. Let each server have 2 GB of RAM. But your site consumes 500-800 MB of memory, and your neighbor's site consumes 3 GB. It turns out that you pay for resources that are not really used by your site.
  • Dependence on neighbors. From previous paragraph another problem follows. Excessive load on one machine can lead to malfunctions of neighboring VPSs. For example, a neighbor's VPS has loaded the processor, and your site will slow down because of this. And it is very easy to load the processor - just install some gluttonous CMS like Magento, and you are guaranteed constant overuse of processor time and RAM.
  • Limited customization. Part VPS settings it is impossible to change - the root file system and the kernel are not under your control. Kernel and root of course file system you do not always have to change, and this is not a drawback, just a feature of using VPS.

Your server is physically placed in the provider's data center, where the Internet channel and power are backed up, and the optimal temperature is maintained.

Server hosting services are relatively inexpensive. Hosting the server itself will cost 2,500 rubles per month. Internet with guaranteed 10 Mbps or non-guaranteed 100 Mbps goes for free when renting a port Ethernet switch- 500 rubles per month. If such a channel is not enough for you, then you can either buy a guaranteed 50 Mbit / s channel (3500 rubles per month), or take a port with a non-guaranteed 1 Gbit / s bandwidth for 5000 rubles per month.

It turns out that the existence of the server will cost you at least 3000 rubles per month. This moment must be considered when calculating the ROI of a purchase of physical equipment. After all, for this money you can rent (even cheaper) VDS with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of disk space!

All this I mean is that you can safely deduct the cost of hosting a server from the cost of renting a VDS, because in the case of a physical server, you would still have to pay this money.

So, if you take the tariff of 11,747 rubles per month (256 GB HDD and 8 GB of RAM) and subtract 10% (discount when paying for a year) and 3,000 rubles (placement), then 7,572.3 rubles comes out. Let's take our sum of 162,250 rubles and divide it by the resulting value. The result is almost two years (more than 21 months) of VDS lease with an almost maximum configuration. If you don't need 256 GB right now, you can choose more cheap tariff with 128 GB of space: subtract 10% and 3000 rubles from 7899, the amount will be very modest, like for renting a server of this configuration - 4109 rubles. With a server cost of 162,250 rubles, this amount will be enough for 39 months of VDS lease with 128 GB HDD, three cores and 8 GB of RAM. Two cores with the same parameters of the RAM and HDD will cost even less (2950 rubles, if you count according to our method). Do not forget that after three years the warranty ends and the physical server may require investment. Surely in three years it will already be worn out HDD and it will need to be replaced.

Nevertheless, if you need an iron server made of boards and wires and you want it to be yours and only yours, you can rent a physical server with a subsequent ransom for 1 ruble. Of course, the monthly fee in this situation will be higher, but he waited a year and took his server home to the office, left it in the data center. You groom and cherish it yourself - however, you serve it as well. In other words, your virtual server can turn into a real one!

conclusions

In most cases, VDS rental is not only easier, but also more profitable. As for physical servers, their use is advisable only if the planned load is so high that the virtual server cannot cope with it (if you plan that all eight cores of your physical processor will be used) and all disk space is immediately needed. In all other cases, it is more profitable to rent VDS. When choosing a physical server, do not forget about the cost of hosting a server in a data center, which is comparable to the cost of renting not the weakest VDS.

Regular hosting no longer suits and there is a problem of choice: buy a physical server or rent a virtual one? In this article we will try to compare incomparable things - physical and virtual.

Does your project need a server?

It often happens that a person is tormented over the choice of a physical server, but he really does not need it. Therefore, the first step is to decide whether such equipment is necessary at all, and then to think about which server to choose - physical or virtual.

Here are some examples when a project (organization) needs its own server computer:

  1. A major Internet project like a massively multiplayer online game, large online store, hosting provider, etc.
  2. The need for remote working together with some kind of application like 1C or any other.
  3. Availability a large number user content for example a social network.
  4. A site with high traffic and regular hosting can no longer cope. The site is disabled for exceeding resource limits. You have already tried to optimize your software and switch to another hoster with softer limits.

In all other cases, it is cheaper and easier to buy hosting. Considering average cost a physical server, these funds will be enough for 50 years of hosting rent.

If your project meets the above criteria, then a server computer is still needed. It remains to decide which server to choose - physical or virtual. First, let's examine the commercial value of the issue.

Physical server cost

Let's look at a server with a medium configuration that would suit our needs. When choosing equipment, be guided by models in standard 1U or 2U cases, which will be useful if you decide to place server equipment in a data center.

On Yandex. A server with the following configuration was found in the market:
Proliant DL180 Gen9 E5-2620v4 Hot Plug Rack (2U) / Xeon8C 2.1GHz (20Mb) / 1 × 16GbR1D_2400 / P440FBWC (2GB / RAID1 / 10/5/6) / 2 × 300GB12G10K (8 / 16up) SFF / noDVD / 2HPFans / iLOstd (w / o port) / 2 × 1GbEth / EasyRK + CMA / 1 × 900W

Rice. 1. Cost of a physical server

The configuration is average, but there are certain positives: a standard 2U case, a Xeon server processor, register memory 16 GB, two drives of 300 GB each (suitable for creating a RAID array).

The cost of this equipment is 146,851 rubles. We will build on this amount in further calculations.

Let's see how much a virtual server computer on the platform will cost. Configuration (Figure 2) with 4-core Xeon processor, 16GB random access memory and a 100 GB SAS disk will cost 5980 rubles. per month (Fig. 3).

Rice. 2. Configuration of the virtual server

Rice. 3. The cost of a virtual server

If clouds are for you
not just theory

Wide range services
by selected north
and multi-cloud solutions

If we divide the cost of a physical server (which is 146,851 rubles) by the cost of one month of rent, it turns out that with this money you can rent a virtual server computer for 2 whole years (namely, 24 and a half months).

Also note that the entire amount (in the case of a physical server) will have to be paid immediately. Note: we are not talking about renting a server computer, but about buying your own at your own expense. In the case of credit funds, the components will cost even more, since you need to pay interest on the loan. As an investment, your own server computer for small and medium-sized projects is also not an option, since in a short time it will lose value very quickly, and you will not be able to sell it even for half the amount if you find that you no longer need it. In addition, immediately after the purchase of new equipment, it becomes "second-hand" and loses in price by 30%, and after a year of operation - even more.

Have you come up with a "bright" idea to buy "used" equipment? It's like buying a pig in a poke. Nobody knows how long this equipment has worked, and, as a rule, there is no guarantee. Any technician, when asked what is better - used components or new ones, will answer that it is better to purchase new equipment with valid guarantee, but again it all comes down to finances.

Yes, you can argue that the physical server has three times more disk space, but:

  • Firstly, you will not always need all 300 GB right away (the second drive is used as a mirror, so the second 300 GB does not count).
  • Secondly, in the case of a virtual machine, you do not need to immediately pay the rent for 2 years in advance. You can pay as you please - you can pay once a month, you can pay once a day (only 199.33 rubles a day), you can reduce the amount of resources and pay less. For example, the same configuration, but with 8 GB of RAM, will cost only 3460 rubles per month, and this is enough for 42 months of rent.

Virtual resources, like physical ones, are constantly getting cheaper. Therefore, if a computer is needed in the long term, then the cost of renting it will constantly decrease, and the configuration will only improve. In the case of a physical server, the configuration will remain the same, but the cost of its maintenance will increase, since over time it will require replacement of failed components.

Cost of maintaining a physical server

Of course when it comes about which server to choose, many clients give preference to the physical one, because you can touch it and see what you are paying for. However, as with everything physical, it is not enough to buy it, it also needs to be maintained.

The cost of maintaining your own server machine includes the following components:

  • Software price. When buying a virtual machine, you automatically buy a license for the right to use one or another software, for example, Microsoft Windows Server. In the case of a physical server, you will have to pay extra for the "math".
  • Administrator salary. Depending on the administrator's level and your region, this amount will be 25-50 thousand rubles per month.
  • The cost of the main and backup Internet channel. In the price virtual machine already includes one dedicated IP address and a 10 Mbps link. And rest assured: the channel is redundant. Nobody wants clients to be left without the Internet. You will have to provide for your server computer backup channel on one's own. And again, this will require the involvement of competent specialists, which will require extra money, which small organizations often do not have.
  • Electricity cost. The server computer is equipped with a 900 W power supply (at full load). The cost of electricity is easy to calculate yourself. Here, calculate the cost of air conditioning the room in which the equipment is located - it should not be too hot, which is especially important for the summer period.
  • System cost backup power supply... You don't want your organization to stop working if the power goes out, do you? And surges in electricity are very dangerous for iron, so a backup power system should be, albeit the simplest, at least to protect against power surges.

There can be problems with the last point. Server UPSs capable of "holding" the server for several hours until power is restored cost several hundred thousand rubles, that is, more expensive than server equipment. A budget option, for example, APC by Schneider Electric Smart-UPS XL Modular 1500VA 230V Rackmount / Tower, providing only 28 minutes at half load, will cost from 78 thousand rubles. A full-fledged server solution like APC by Schneider Electric Smart-UPS SRT 8000VA RM 230V costs from 260 thousand rubles.

If conditions permit, for example, you have your own building, you can try to install diesel generators - it is cheaper. In an office building, your neighbors are unlikely to appreciate it. No one canceled the noise and smell. I am already silent about the fire regulations.

There is only one way out - colocation, that is, placing your own equipment in a data center. This service looks like this. You buy a physical server and deliver it to the data center. All the conditions for its uninterrupted operation are provided there - there is a backup Internet channel, a backup power system, an air conditioning system.

The cost of accommodation, however, is not very high. For only 3500 r. per month you can place equipment in a data center of level 3 (TIER III), while you will be provided with protection against DDoS attacks and guaranteed an Internet channel of 100 Mbit / s. True, 3500 r. - this is almost a monthly cost of renting a virtual server with 8 GB of RAM ...

If you place own equipment in DC, then you have much less headache and of all expenses, the cost of colocation, the cost of software (if necessary) and the salary of the administrator remain. Of course, after two years the cost will also be added. Maintenance... The warranty for server nodes is just 2 years, and the computer contains many mechanical parts that can fail - fans, hard drives and so on. In the case of a virtual machine, you do not need to worry about this, however, we will talk about this later.

If you do not take into account the cost of software (after all, you can use free software), then the cost of content per month looks like this:

  • RUB 3,500 - colocation services;
  • 25,000 - 30,000 RUB - the minimum wage for an administrator (of course, you can not pay this amount if you are “your own administrator”).

It is important to understand that even in use, your hardware is your hardware. Let's imagine an unpleasant situation: you placed the server in the DC, and after a while the hard disk failed. All the same, you need an administrator who would pick up necessary tough disk, sent it to the provider in the DC, or else you will have to buy in advance backup disk so that it is stored in the DC. Price replacing hard the disk will be considered by the operating time - 1000 rubles / hour, the operation of replacing the hard disk takes at least 15 minutes.

Alternative to physical server: dedicated server

Dedicated server - great alternative physical server. This is also the highest performing computer equipment installed in the provider's data center, only you do not buy it, but rent it. At the same time, you no longer need to think about which server to choose, since you can change the technical characteristics of the equipment at any time for additional fee... Of course, unlike a virtual machine, upgrading a dedicated server computer will take a little more time, but you will not have to spend a lot of money and time on selecting components.

Now a little math. Let's take a dedicated server with the following configuration:

2 x Xeon L5630 (4 Core * 2.13GHz) 16GB DDR3 2 × 2TB SATA HDD

Such an excellent configuration will cost only 9,500 rubles per month. In terms of configuration, this computer is similar to our physical computer, which we have chosen as a reference, only it has 2 SATA disks, 2 TB each. If you wish, you can rent a computer with four SAS disks, 146 GB each. It will cost the same 9,500 rubles / month.

Yes, it is more expensive than a virtual machine, but this is a real physical server computer that you do not need to pay in full right away. Such equipment will cost you 114 thousand rubles a year. You can, of course, buy a physical one for 146 thousand, but we have already discussed the cost of its maintenance. And here you pay only 9,500 rubles / month and no headaches. You don't need to worry about the Internet connection, or about backup power, or about air conditioning, or about the climate control system - these are all problems of the data center.

If you wish, you can save money and pay for the lease of a dedicated server right away - then a year of lease will cost 96,900 rubles. (-15%).

A dedicated server computer has all the advantages of a physical one, but at the same time you do not need to pay for colocation (this is already included in the tariff), you do not need to worry about possible hardware breakdown and downtime. The technicians are serviced by DC engineers, and customers can safely enjoy all the privileges that this service provides.

When you rent a dedicated server computer, you get the same physical one, but you pay for it as you use it. In addition, after a year of lease, you will find nice bonus- free car upgrade during planned renovation technology.

You don't really need a server administrator, since the initial configuration will be performed by the provider and completely free of charge. Modernization and maintenance of equipment are also problems of the provider. The only thing for which you may have to pay extra is setting up some specific software, but this is a one-time and not always necessary - it all depends on the tasks. You do not need an administrator who would monitor the state of the Internet connection, be responsible for the operability of the equipment, since all these duties are performed by the provider's staff.

The advantage of rented equipment is that the data center is responsible for its performance. Let's remember the situation with hard disk... In case of its refusal, the data center will replace it for you free of charge. You don't need to pay for a hard drive or a replacement.

Advantages and disadvantages

In terms of the cost of content, the virtual machine is unambiguously in the lead. But let's forget about finance for a second. Doesn't a board-and-wire server have other advantages?

The performance of a virtual machine, although it will be high, will be lower than that of a physical one. On the other hand, in most cases the performance provided by virtual environment quite enough, and in the case of physical equipment, you overpay for unused resources.

The difference in performance will be felt only on very powerful configurations with hundreds of gigabytes of "RAM". When it comes to regular server with 16 GB of RAM, which is needed for remote access to 1C, then you will not notice any difference.

The virtual machine has its advantages. One of them is ease of maintenance. An administrator (namely a server administrator, not a project administrator) is not needed as such, since the equipment and its configuration are controlled through a convenient control panel, and you can do whatever you want with it at any time. For example, upgrade performance virtual system by adding more RAM or extra hard drive in just a couple of mouse clicks.

You do not need to worry that the drive will fail - if it does, it is the provider's problem, and you can restore your virtual machine from a backup. Cloning a server computer at the push of a button is a separate conversation. You do not need to worry about anything - neither about voltage surges, nor about power outages, etc. All these are problems of the provider, which he will solve.

In the case of a virtual machine, you pay only for the resources used. Even if you ordered a computer with a stock and there are unused resources, you can "reduce" the current configuration. If 16 GB of "RAM" is a lot, you can turn them into 8 GB at any time and pay a couple of thousand rubles less per month.

In addition, the cost of a virtual machine already includes one IP address, a guaranteed Internet channel with unlimited traffic and throughput 10 Mbps plus uninterruptible power supply. If the first two "goodies" (IP-address and the Internet) are not particularly a problem now, then uninterruptible power supply is very expensive.

The following table summarizes the benefits of all types of servers.

Server type

Advantages

Flaws

Physical
  • Significantly more expensive to buy and maintain
  • We pay the entire amount at once
  • Server Administrator Required
  • You need to pay for colocation or provide yourself with the proper conditions for the operation of the equipment
  • Complexity of modernization
Virtual
  • Much cheaper than physical
  • Ease of maintenance, no need for a separate admin on the staff
  • Keeping uptime is not your problem
  • Fast server cloning
  • Quickly create a "snapshot" of a virtual machine, which allows you to restore the server in seconds
  • Easy to upgrade
  • Payment only for the resources used, the ability to quickly change the server configuration
  • The price already includes an IP address and an Internet channel
  • Performance is slightly lower than that of a physical server computer
  • Cannot be seen / touched physically

Dedicated

  • All the benefits of a physical server computer
  • Colocation services are already included in the tariff
  • No need to worry about equipment breaking
  • A physical server that you get right away and pay as you use it
  • More expensive than a virtual machine
  • You need to pay for the software (if there is no way to get by with free)

A bit of math

It's time to take stock of the financial results. The following table will allow you to calculate the content of each type of server. The costs of maintaining a physical server are based on the assumption that colocation will be used and there will be no associated costs such as failure of server components (since the equipment is new, there should not be such situations in the first year of operation).

(***) Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Standard

You need to understand that the cost of software may not be. We calculated the cost Microsoft licenses Windows Server 2012 Standard for two processors. This is the minimum license. You may also need licenses for terminal access... Of course, this is with using Windows... With Linux or FreeBSD, you won't have any software costs.

As you can see from the table, the first year of life with a physical server will cost 559,789 thousand in space. To this sum, you can also add the loss of the cost of equipment, but we did not do this.

Most the best option from an economic point of view - a virtual server computer. A dedicated one will cost more, however, you need it only in the most difficult cases, but the final decision on which server to choose in 2018 is yours.

conclusions

In most cases, renting a virtual server is more profitable, easier and more convenient than contacting a physical server. Today, in fact, it makes sense to purchase physical equipment if you yourself plan to lease virtual machines. In all other cases, you can get by with a virtual server.

It is advisable to host a web project that is larger than a simple static information site on a separate server. If an online store containing more than 500 items of goods operates on a "regular" virtual hosting of sites, then even with a small load of 1000 users per day, it suffers from slow speed responsive and often unresponsive.

For efficient operation of an online store with up to 50,000 visitors per day, we recommend renting a VDS / VPS server.

Rent a dedicated server for an online store with more than 50,000 daily traffic and more than 10,000 product names. If you want to host several online stores on one server, as well as other software, then renting a dedicated server is an ideal solution.

Game servers: rent a VDS / VPS or rent a dedicated server?

A separate server for network games such as Minecraft, CS: GO 1.6, GTA: San andreas, ARMA, Rust, etc. - required condition comfortable game.

Game server on VDS / VPS is a high speed and stable connection, technical support and physical safety of the server, data security and protection against DDoS attacks, the number of game slots up to 200, the number of players from 50 to 100 for different games and server configurations.

For example, for renting a CS 1.6 server for 50-100 players, an ideal solution would be a virtual server with 4 processor cores and 4 GB of RAM, its capacity is enough for high-speed gaming and stable operation.

On a dedicated server, you can install one or more of any game servers, including Minecraft and CS 1.6. Here, depending on the selected configuration, you can simultaneously connect the maximum possible number of users for any game, play at high speed, use TeamSpeak, Mumble, etc. Renting a dedicated server for games gives high speed data transfer subject to a large number of players.

Rent of a virtual and dedicated server for "1C: Enterprise"

The 1C: Enterprise program is quite resource-intensive even with a minimum number of users in the system (from 5 to 10 people), nevertheless, renting a 1C virtual server is the best solution when simultaneous work up to 50 1C users in the system.

On a virtual server, except for 1C: Enterprise, you can install any other software (accounting, financial, etc.), completely administer and change the operating system.

When renting a 1C server, keep in mind that the minimum configuration of a virtual server for normal work applications must be at least as specified in tariff plan VDS Fly away.

It is advisable to use a dedicated server for 1C if the number of users is more than 50. To ensure the work of 100 or more concurrent 1C users, several dedicated servers can be combined into one cluster.

Renting a dedicated 1C server provides an increase in the speed of 1C: Enterprise at least twice as compared to a virtual server and provides work with large amounts of data.

You have round-the-clock access to the 1C server from any computer or mobile device through an encrypted channel, a guarantee of data security and server safety.

Rent a VDS for TeamSpeak 3 servers!

For TeamSpeak 3 the most optimal solution is the lease VDS server With operating systems Debian or Ubuntu. We provide servers with low ping throughout Russia, so your server voice communication will work quickly and without noticeable delays.

Looking for suitable hosting for your project or platform for business automation, sooner or later a question arises, which has probably already become a classic: which server to rent - virtual or physical? You can call this question a technical one, or it can be a matter of personal preference, but in any case, the answer will have to be found, and preferably the correct one.

To begin with, we need a machine that can satisfy both the increased requirements of a web project for resources and performance, as well as the need for maximum control over the equipment. These tasks are solved by:

Physical server(dedicated) is an independent and self-sufficient piece of equipment that offers its owner a full range of hardware and software control.

Virtual server(vds). Created directly on physical hardware, where each virtual machine consists of a specific pool of resources. In terms of functionality, VDS emulates the work of a physical server and does it very successfully.

Difference between virtualization and hardware

When choosing any server, such characteristics as processor frequency, amount of RAM and disk space are important. But not less important role plays usability, controllability, reliability and cost. Let's compare both options within the framework of these indicators.

Configurations

  • Dedicated: When ordering physical equipment, you must correctly calculate the server requirements so that comfortable work of the project "everything was enough." If you want to upgrade the piece of hardware, you can additionally order RAM or add hard drives. If the project has grown a lot, then you can migrate for more powerful server or take an additional one.
  • VDS: Virtualization is popular because of its easy and convenient scalability. You do not need to take a server "with a margin", since increasing or decreasing the capacity pool is extremely simple and fast. In addition to RAM and disk space, you can also change the processor power.

Control

  • Dedicated: The physical server is located in the data center and for its administration, settings, reboots, etc. requires remote access to equipment via KVM or IPMI. The equipment is under total control its tenant, who is free to perform any technical work on the car.
  • VDS: A virtual dedicated machine (not to be confused with software virtualization -VPS) allows you to install your own software and change system parameters, as well as on iron equipment. If you wish, you can install the server control panel.

Reliability

  • Dedicated:Physical hardware tends to become obsolete and wear out, which, with long-term use, can lead to the failure of its components. In such a situation, downtime is possible for the period of identifying and fixing the problem that has arisen.
  • VDS: Virtual resources cannot break or become out of date. Even if any problems arise on the blade server, something crashes or breaks, it is much easier for a virtual machine to migrate to backup resources, and this does not happen noticeably to the user.

Price

  • Dedicated: Consideration should be given to future potential growth in resource demand and server performance. Jump between physical machines quite uncomfortable and labor-intensive, and the payment for unused capacities is unprofitable.
  • VDS: The owner of the virtual machine can pay only for the resources consumed, scaling the server for the stages of project development. If the project is large-scale, then virtualization on cheap products (virtualization platforms) will be more budgetary than its hardware counterpart, but the quality of the service may be in doubt.

What to choose: dedicated or VDS?

Physical and virtual servers are equally well suited for reliable and easy work complex applications and large-scale projects. Each type of hosting has its own pros and cons.

Virtual machines are more reliable in operation and easier to scale, but may not be suitable for implementation of specific projects that require special software or hardware.

Despite its disadvantages, iron equipment is like full-fledged computer is more credible with a wide range of users. But this is rather an established stereotype that is becoming a thing of the past. Physical equipment is often chosen due to considerations that a completely real server is located somewhere in the data center.

In any case, no matter what server you choose, you must clearly understand the goals that it must solve, the time period for the implementation of these goals and the forecast for the development of the project. Based on these indicators and needs, you can choose the option that suits you specifically.
