Highscreen Power Rage mobile phone. What's in the box? Software and multimedia

Screen type: IPS (In Plane Switching) is a high-quality liquid crystal matrix, which was created to eliminate the main disadvantages of matrices based on TN technology. The IPS-matrix in the entire spectrum most adequately reproduces colors at different viewing angles, with the exception of some positions and colors. TN-matrix has, as it were, a better response than IPS, but not always. For example, the IPS-matrix behaves better in transitions from gray to gray. This matrix is still resistant to pressure. Touching a TN or VA matrix results in "excitement" or a certain reaction on the screen. The IPS-matrix has no such effect. In addition, ophthalmologists confirm that the IPS-matrix is the most comfortable for the eyes. In this way, the IPS-matrix brings a bright and clear picture regardless of viewing angles, better for working on the Internet, watching movies. But the most important thing is for image processing and photo viewing. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - Liquid crystal displays. The very first displays used in mobile devices, and not only in telephones. Their main feature is that they have very low power consumption due to the impossibility of displaying a color image. They do not emit light and therefore phones are upgraded with backlight lamps. Some phones had several different backlight colors based on the presence of different LEDs around the display's perimeter. This extraordinary solution was used, for example, in the Ericsson A3618 phone. Pixels are clearly visible on this type of display, and such displays cannot boast of a high resolution. In order to extend the life of such displays, they made them inverted, i.e. text and symbols were displayed not as filled pixels, but, on the contrary, inactive against the background of filled ones. This produces light text on a dark background. Currently, this type of display is used in the cheapest budget models (Nokia 1112) and as an external one in some clamshell phones (Samsung D830).

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) - Liquid crystal displays based on active matrix thin film transistors. There are three transistors for each pixel, corresponding to three colors (RGB - red, green, blue). At the moment, these are the most common displays and have a number of advantages over other displays. They are distinguished by the shortest response time and the rapid development - an ever-increasing resolution and number of colors. These displays are most common in mid-range phones and above. Working resolutions for them: 128x160, 132x176, 176x208, 176x220, 240x320 and others, less common. Examples: Nokia N73 (240x320, 262 thousand colors), Sony Ericsson K750i (176x220, 262 thousand colors), Samsung D900 (240x320, 262 thousand colors). TFTs are rarely used as external displays for clamshells.

CSTN (Color Super Twisted Nematic) - Color passive matrix liquid crystal displays. Each pixel of such a display consists of three combined pixels, which correspond to three colors (RGB). Some time ago, almost all phones with color displays were based on exactly this type. And now the lot of such displays is budget models. The main disadvantage of such displays is their slowness. The undoubted advantage of such displays is their cost, which is much lower than TFT. Based on simple logic, it can be assumed that in the future TFT will oust this type of displays from the market of mobile devices. The color evolution of such displays is quite extensive: from 16 to 65536 colors. Examples: Motorola V177 (128x160, 65 thousand colors), Sony Ericsson J100i (96x64, 65 thousand colors), Nokia 2310 (96x68, 65 thousand colors).

UFB (Ultra Fine and Bright) - Liquid crystal displays with increased brightness and contrast on a passive matrix. We can say that this is an intermediate option between CSTN and TFT. This type of display boasts lower power consumption compared to TFT. For the most part, such displays were used by Samsung in mid-range phones. This type of display is not widely used. Examples: Samsung C100 / 110 (128x128, 65 thousand colors).

TN is a type of TFT display matrix. Roughly speaking, TN is the simplest and cheapest TFT matrix. The viewing angles are the narrowest.

In current realities, the level of smartphones in the budget and middle segments quite comfortably allows you to run applications and please the owner with the absence of freezes of the operating system. The quality of screens, cameras, assembly and overall appearance improved. If we discard all the pathos and do not chase after the "carriage" (flagships), which in less than a year manage to turn into a "pumpkin", it is quite possible to take a "workhorse" without harming your budget. Moreover, it is in this price segment that you can choose a model that can boast not only curved screens and an ultra-thin body, but also such characteristics that are in demand in real use as battery capacity and battery life. One of the recognized leaders in the segment of "long-playing" smartphones is the Russian company Highscreen. Starting from the top-end Highscreen Boost 3, ending with the junior Highscreen Zera S Power.

Highscreen Power Rage Review

Equipment

The smartphone is delivered in a light package made of thick cardboard. The front part contains data on technical characteristics in the form of a schematic image of a smartphone.

The Highscreen Power Rage package includes a 2A charger, micro USB cable, headphones, warranty card and instructions. A transparent protective bumper is also available.

Appearance

Highscreen Power Rage is a good example of the combination of a large battery and attractive design. Usually these phones look clumsy. Available in a 9.6mm semi-metal case.

Looks fashionable, there are four color options for the case. So far, only black and navy blue are available. In addition to these, there is also white and gold.

The capacious battery under the cover gives out only 200 grams. The dimensions themselves make it quite comfortable to operate the smartphone with the fingers of one hand.

At the base is a metal frame that provides rigidity and increases the reliability of the structure. It is covered with a plastic frame with a textured coating. The assembly is excellent, there is no squeak or backlash of parts.

Both mechanical buttons are located on the side edge, they are clearly fixed in the body, there is no rattling. The move is soft, the location is well chosen.

In Highscreen Power Rage I liked the smooth transition of not only the lid, but also the screen to the side edge. The 2.5D effect is applied, which consists in processing the edge of the protective glass.

The side edge of the screen is thin, the top is occupied by the earpiece, front camera lens, proximity and lighting sensors. On the bottom there are three touch buttons without backlight.

The main area of the lid is made of metal with a matte finish. The upper and lower edges are plastic; antennas and a speaker are brought out in these areas.

The lens with chrome-plated edging does not protrude from the surface of the body, providing additional protection against scratches and damage to the glass. Nearby LED flash.

The bottom is an oblong speaker, it does not overlap with the palm when placed in the hand. It is possible to connect headphones, the audio jack is hidden on the upper edge. USB Type-C, as in Highscreen Bay, was not installed; traditional micro USB is available for charging and synchronization.

The case is collapsible, you need to make an effort to remove the cover. Under it is a serviced battery, two SIM compartments and a micro SD slot. Unlike competitors, the user is not faced with a choice between a second SIM and a memory card. Plus one of the SIMs supports hot swapping without turning off the smartphone.

Screen

Highscreen Power Ice and Highscreen Power Rage are united by the used screen matrix. It is a five-inch S-IPS with HD resolution. The quality of the screen is high, the picture is detailed, wide viewing angles, and a high margin of brightness.

Good responsiveness, no problems with the sensor were found. Maximum 5 simultaneous clicks are recognized.

There is a possibility of adaptive backlighting. There are no highlights and insufficiently illuminated areas.

Filling

Compared to Highscreen Power Five, the performance level is reduced. The Highscreen Power Rage uses a MediaTek MT6580 processor. This is a fresh platform built using four Cortex A7 cores, clocked at 1.3 GHz, made using a 28nm process technology. Responsible for the graphics Mali-400MP2 with OpenGL ES 2.0. In terms of performance, it is comparable to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. If we discard dry comparisons, the user will not experience problems with launching software and games, but in a number of complex projects, a decrease in the quality of graphics will be required.

Available 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. The space for photos and files can be expanded using capacious memory cards.

Connection

Limitations concern LTE support, it is not in Highscreen Power Rage, only 3G. Onboard modules Bluetooth 4.0, single-band Wi-Fi, FM radio. The navigation module works stably, the positioning accuracy is high, it takes about 30 seconds for a cold start.

Battery

Highscreen Power Rage boasts long battery life. Improved process technology and energy efficiency of the processor paired with a 4000 mAh battery contributed to the contribution. In the usual scenario, it is quite possible to charge the phone every 2 days; active use will drain the battery by the evening. Charging takes about 3.5 hours with a complete charger.

Software

Highscreen Power Rage has become a successor of good traditions, the manufacturer does not litter the system with partner games, software and skins in the race for an additional "pretty penny". The user is offered a clean system with Google Play support.

Added support for gestures in settings, virtual button option. Most likely, an update to Android 6.0 will be released by the middle of this year. Also, judging by experience, there will be alternative firmware.

Results for Highscreen Power Rage

The Highscreen Power Rage is a solid midrange with balanced performance, offering a long battery life as well. An excellent choice for those who are not chasing the number of cores and dubious marketing promises. The strengths include: IPS HD screen, energy-efficient processor, 2/16 GB of RAM, 4000 mAh battery, reinforced case, a pair of SIMs, expandable memory, extended configuration, attractive appearance and excellent assembly. You may not like the lack of LTE support here.

Problem solved

Advantages: The glass is practically not scratched. It's super straight. Now there are several very, very small scratches on the screen, and I even went without a protective sticker. At first, the battery actually lasted a very long time. I don’t know what the reason is, perhaps in the number of installed applications (it seems reasonable, I delete unnecessary ones), but now it keeps less. If you don’t sit on the Internet for a long time, don’t watch YouTube, only calls, music and instant messengers, then it can last two days. With active use even now - a day. Since the phone still charges overnight, that's enough. The management is normal, there are no complaints. I saw a response on another phone that the volume control button only regulates the call - everything is fine here: when listening to music, without music, the sound of the call. Disadvantages: Significantly: I began to slow down very much, often completely freeze, I regularly reboot by pulling out the battery. It may also be due to the number of applications. But, in my opinion, a good system will prevent applications from bringing the phone to this. And after all, what applications: maps, Yandex taxi and Uber, Twitter and Instagram, instant messengers, YouTube, weather, notebook - all from the most famous companies. And a couple of basic toys. Quite important: For this model, according to the representatives of the service centers to which I turned with the broken glass, as well as according to information from the Internet, it is impossible to qualitatively change only the glass, it is necessary to change the entire touch screen unit with glass. And that costs more than half the price of a phone. Glass would be worth a quarter of the price. The rest of the little things: The description does not say, but it seems that the limit on the memory card is 32GB. This is not certain: I bought two cheap cards for 32 and 64, and only the smaller one was read. Perhaps the second one is not working at all, perhaps the phone cannot do it. Very strange requirements for the power cable (not spelled out anywhere). Some, including his own, usb-cables and adapters suit him, others he does not see (charging constantly turns on and off, the phone just sits and vibrates, although it still charges very slowly), it is impossible to predict. It is impossible to turn off vibration at all: it is noted that it is turned off, and when charging, it confirms the connection with vibration. It's just that when buying a spare / new cable, you need to check it in the store. The power connector has been loose for (almost?) Two years. Again, there is a cable that still works without problems, but with the other two it must be carefully laid down and not touched so that it does not lose them every few minutes. This, of course, is my fault (just the term of use), but I still think that the connectors must be very durable. Commentary: The battery is REMOVABLE. The description is incorrect. The camera is normal. For comparison, I only have cameras, and it would be very comparable if I had not misinterpreted the magenta: usually it does not matter, but when shooting flowers, one cannot help but notice that crimson, cherry, dark pink shades look unnatural, like a slice of the spectrum the camera does not see the way we expect. I don't know if there are phones with a good speaker. When talking, I listen only through headphones. It is possible without headphones, it seems as usual, like with other phones, but with headphones it is so much better that there are no words. When I bought it, there were no covers for it on sale yet (it was a completely new model, 2016), I soon dropped the phone on the tile, and in the very corner a very small chip of glass appeared, just tiny, it did not even enter the screen. As soon as the silicone case appeared on sale, I bought it. Since then, I dropped it more than once (usually not much, I caught it, I held the headphones), everything was without problems. I'm sure the cover saved. And the other day I dropped it on oak parquet, from a small height, but somehow so unsuccessfully that a rather large piece of glass cracked (maybe it managed to hit the iron rack - I just don't know). A big frustration, of course. (see disadvantages) Before it there was a highscreen phone too, I don't remember what happened, but I liked it, and I immediately bought this one. And now, since there is simply no point in repairing, I will take something else. The main reason is terrible brakes and constant freezing.

In the line of Highscreen smartphones, a special place is occupied by the long-playing devices of the Power line. The current series of inexpensive phones with a powerful battery looks like this: Power Five Pro, Power Ice and Power Rage - a flagship, a mod and a workhorse. We'll talk about the latest smartphone in this review.

Complete set and design

The phone comes in traditional Highscreen packaging with a picture of the device's insides on the front side and a listing of key features. Inside the box is a standard set of documentation, cable and charger block with 2A output. The surprise was a nice wired headset with vacuum earplugs and metal trim, as well as a transparent case to protect the back panel. Nice addition.

Highscreen Power Rage comes in four colors: black, white, blue and gold. We got a blue phone for the test and it looks more interesting than the boring black version. The front panel of the smartphone is protected by a rounded 2.5D glass, on which it is pleasant to slide your finger from edge to edge. A good oleophobic layer only adds advantages to a smartphone for 10,990 rubles. The screen quality, meanwhile, is mediocre: a simple IPS-matrix is inverted under slopes and cannot boast of high brightness. The resolution of 1280x720 pixels is enough for a 5 "diagonal, if you don't look at small interface elements and fonts.

The body of the smartphone is tightly assembled, but do not remove the cover unless absolutely necessary, as it may start to creak (this advice is relevant for owners of any smartphones with removable panels). Under the cover are slots for two microSIM cards, microSD memory cards and a removable 4000 mAh battery.

The phone is large and heavy - as much as 200 grams! Thickness for a massive battery is acceptable - 9.6 mm. Power Ice has even less of it, but it also looks more stylish. This is not to say that the Power Rage does not have a design, but it is quite utilitarian and if it were not for the rounded glass, then the eye would have nothing to catch on to. The glossy side frame with a metal-brushed effect does not cling to, and it would be better if it really was made of metal. Nevertheless, it is easy to recognize the Highscreen in a smartphone, and not some other device.

Software

The smartphone runs Android 5.1, Amigo UI is used as a shell with the stock Android AOSP launcher. There are some visual improvements in settings and applications. Among the interesting finds are economical backlighting, smart power saving in standby mode, gesture control with smart vibration for notifications and eye tracking while you look at the screen. The presence of a virtual button will be useful for someone. There is no unusual pre-installed software, Google applications are available in a full set, and from Highscreen there is only a software update utility. A gallery with a private section, voice recorder, clock, player, messages and contacts went to the smartphone from Gionee, which is behind Amigo UI. See screenshots below.

Camera

It uses an 8-megapixel main module with autofocus and a 5-megapixel front camera. The camera interface has been improved, there are many different settings, but it is problematic to squeeze something out of them.

On the machine, the device shoots well and even adjusts the exposure according to the focus point. As a result, getting a good shot without overexposure is easier, but the smartphone is best at macro shots and close-up shots in daylight. Natural colors and good sharpness are a bonus.

Benchmarks and performance

The smartphone is based on the MediaTek MT6580 chipset (4 cores, 1.3 GHz) with Mali-400 MP2 graphics and offers 2 GB of RAM. Iron is weak (the device sometimes slows down, and it's even better not to put the Google Start launcher on it), but, in theory, energy efficient. How are things going in practice?

Benchmarks first. In AnTuTu, the device scores about 24,500 points and sticks to them after several runs, in Geekbench - 358/1183, Vellamo - 1176/726/1204 and 48.3 fps in Epic Citadel with high graphics quality (ultra not available). The device is not exposed to strong heat and does not go beyond 32 degrees, it stably maintains the peak frequency of the processor without resetting. For half an hour of full load in the Stability Test, the phone was discharged by only 4%, which means that with a heavy load in games or many applications, it will last long enough. Toys, however, slow down at maximum graphics and it is better to leave all the default settings for Asphalt 8, Unkilled, Dead Effect 2 and Implosion.

It is not easy for smartphone manufacturers lately, oh not easy. First, the market is becoming increasingly competitive because adjacent segments are stagnant at best. Look, even for tablets, and then users have noticeably cooled, because everyone who needed them has already bought them, and those who have not yet bought them have no special need for these devices. As a result, more and more companies are starting to release smartphones, because this is still quite a way to make money.

Secondly, for a long time fundamentally new technologies have not appeared on the market, so marketers have little understanding of how to convince a potential client that they need to buy this particular smart. To lure with the number of cores and megapixels is already somehow strange, almost all phones now have so many cores and megapixels that in general it is almost all the same how many. Of course, three or four leading manufacturers of class “A” play by different rules, but the rest also need to do something.

In general, there are three parameters with which to really lure customers: duration of work, equipment and price. And now the Highscreen brand traditionally uses all three.

The delivery set of the new device of the glorious company “Vobis” Highscreen Power Rage includes, in addition to the standard set, a transparent plastic protective case for the back cover. The thing, of course, is optional (yes, the marketing staff of this company will forgive me, but I happened to drop their phones on different surfaces and, thank God, none of them crashed yet), but cool because you can shove some picture under it, from what immediately unearthly beauty will come. Again, I don’t know for what reasons, but very decent headphones are included in the boxes with the latest Highscreen models. Along the way, the company just bought a large batch of good ones somewhere and indiscriminately puts them in boxes for all their smartphones.

The device is available in four different colors of cases: white, black, blue, gold. The corners are rounded, the frame is insignificant, the physical buttons on the ends are located in logical places, well, in general, everything is like all decent manufacturers, there were no obvious jambs.

The filling of the phone is average. Processor - 4-core MediaTek MT6580, 1.3 GHz, 2 gigabytes of RAM (damn, my first IBM PC-compatible computer had 2 megabytes! And then there was some kind of dialer. I feel like a product of the Mesozoic), 16 gigabytes of constant, cameras - 8 and 5 megapixels, respectively, a slot for microSD (compatible with SDHC), cards up to 128 gigabytes are supported, 2 SIM card slots and other must-haves for any gentleman.

The processor, of course, is not a high-end one, but it is felt only in the most sophisticated graphic applications (read - games), where you have to forcibly reduce the quality of graphics. In all other cases, everything works perfectly.

Screen - 5 ″ 720 × 1280, HD IPS. Not AMOLED, of course (although here, as usual, opinions are divided), but with the exception of cases when you are trying to see something in the sun, without turning the brightness to maximum, it is quite decent. Supported networks are GSM / GPRS / EDGE / 3G / HSPA +, but 4G is not, which causes quite understandable grief. A thing that you don’t say is not useless.

But everyone is recommended to experience boundless joy when they learn that the phone weighs less than 200 grams and measures 143.5 × 71.9 × 9.6 mm and has a 4,000 milliampere-hour battery. This is generally a proprietary feature of Highscreen, the developers are almost the first of all who make B-brands, have moved from thinking about how users hesitated the need to look around all the time in search of an outlet, to actions, and try to complete all their models with batteries of normal capacity ...

And now you know - in combination with a not very powerful filling, such a battery gives a wonderful effect. The manufacturer claims that the phone can live up to 15 days in standby mode - I, of course, have not tested this, but I can confidently say that in standard operation, the phone can definitely not be charged for 2.5 days, which, IMHO , is an excellent result. Everyone would be so.

And the last thing is the price. Now in retail the phone costs a little more than 10 thousand rubles, which is quite inexpensive for these sad times.

Briefly speaking. Such phones are now on the market - a wagon and a small cart. But Power Rage differs from most in that it works for a really long time, and you can shove some picture under a transparent piece to a heap. In my opinion, this is a reason, when choosing a phone, to think about it.

Oh yes. OS - Android 5.1 Lollipop, almost bald, for which special thanks to the developers.
