Meizu M6 is an affordable smartphone with a nice design. Meizu M6 Note review: the perfect budget phone with a dual camera

Meizu is the manufacturer that has established itself well in the Russian market thanks to its quality and a rather pleasant price tag. And today we propose to look at the new product of the company Meizu M6T together and conclude whether the device will be able to win the attention of users.

Specifications

Packaging and equipment

The smartphone is packed in a simple box of a pleasant deep blue color, which immediately suggests that Meizu M6T is Quality for Young.

Everything is standard for the device: a charger, a Micro-USB cable, a warranty card and a user manual.

Design and ease of use

The design of the smartphone can be called classic and, despite the focus on a young audience, of some original bright colors, only blue, and such classic options as black, red and gold.
The front side is completely covered with a protective glass with a 2.5D effect, and nothing is striking here, because only the front camera lens and the speaker grill are visible to the naked eye. No logos, "bangs", you look directly at it and you understand: everything is so simple and so cool.

The back is made of matte polycarbonate. The lid is slightly rounded to the edges of the device, and it not only looks beautiful, but also very convenient in terms of operation - the smartphone lies confidently in the hand and does not strive to slip out. There, on the back side, clearly in the center, there is a logo, a fingerprint scanner, a flash and a dual camera module, which protrudes quite a bit above the body, which is the reason for the accumulation of dust around it, which is not so easy to remove.

The left side contains only a slot for two SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card, on the right side are the volume and lock keys. On the upper end there is only a 3.5 mm Mini Jack, and on the bottom there is a Micro-USB connector and two symmetrical grilles, behind one of which is hidden the main speaker, and behind the other a microphone.

Overall, the design was a success. We can safely say that this smartphone is a stylish classic that will always be in fashion. The Meizu M6T is assembled with high quality, nothing creaks, the keys do not stagger, the only thing, at first, the keys seemed very loud, but this is only the first 2 days. In terms of ergonomics, everything is more than good: “My favorite color, my favorite size”: - D Everything is convenient, practical, and such dimensions of devices have already become “like family” for many.

Screen

Display Meizu M6T - 5.7 ″ IPS with an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and a resolution of 1440 x 720, the top is completely covered with a protective glass with a 2.5D effect and a good oleophobic coating. The colors are saturated, individual pixels are not striking, the viewing angles are not even bad.

The brightness control range is sufficient for using the device even on a sunny day, there is also an adaptive brightness control that always works correctly and screen temperature correction. From additional modes, an eye protection mode is available, which cuts off the blue spectrum. As for me, all the standard display settings out of the box are optimal, but for those who are used to it in a different way, a good set of settings is available.

Camera

Let's start with the camera application: Meizu's proprietary shell has imprinted its own imprint on the camera application, of course, and if you are a "root" user of a stock android, then you will have to use it as a novelty, but in fact, it is quite convenient, all the options are "on the surface ".

The main camera is represented by a dual module of 13 Mp + 2 Mp. The second 2 megapixel module is needed to create the beloved bokeh effect, which can make any photo more artistic. For the main camera, there are standard settings that are available in the automatic shooting mode, and there is a mode for changing the image parameters. As always, color correction filters for photos are available.

For the front camera, which is an 8 megapixel smartphone, of course, there is a decoration mode that does not work in the worst way.

The details of the pictures with both cameras are at a sufficient level, and in good lighting conditions you can get a very decent picture. Below are examples of photos taken with the main camera.

Software

Meizu M6T works on the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with a proprietary shell from Meizu - Flyme 6.3.4. According to the settings - everything that the users of this shell are already accustomed to has remained in its places, almost everything in the system can be configured so that it suits everyone. And in itself, the shell looks quite nice, especially since in the near future it should be updated to the seventh version, in which there are a lot of innovations, and there, I think, there will be a place for the soul to "roam", so we will wait ... :-)

Well, since it historically happened that Meizu smartphones had a navigation button below the screen, the navigation bar display mode is available in the form of a dummy of one of the buttons, so for those who are used to using it, discomfort can be avoided.

Performance

After the release of the Meizu M8c smartphone, many thought that Meizu was finally switching to Qualcomm processors, but that was not the case and the Meizu M6T was built on the Mediatek MT6750 SOC, which includes the Mali-T860 MP2 graphics accelerator, there is a version with 2/3 GB of RAM and 16/32 GB constant. We are testing, by the way, a version with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, and if you use a minimum of third-party applications and do not play actively, then you can take a closer look at the "younger" version. Speaking of performance in general, the Meizu M6T is quite fast in the interface, browser, managers, social media clients, when watching videos, in general, in everything related to everyday use. But it will not be able to excel in performance in games, for example, Asphalt 9 runs stably only on standard settings. Synthetic tests also show the expected average results.

Safety

The smartphone is equipped with a fingerprint scanner, the functions of which are only to unlock the device. The system can simultaneously register up to 5 prints, each of which works clearly and quickly, even with slightly damp hands. And all this, of course, is good, but I would also like to see the possibility of unlocking by face, which is no less convenient, but it is likely that it will come along with the update to Flyme 7.

Autonomy

The 3300 mAh battery gives the smartphone the opportunity to live a full day in active mode of use absolutely not worrying about the presence of an outlet nearby or PowerBank. Screen time was obtained, on average, 4 jobs, which is quite good in active use. And if you plan to use your smartphone "sparingly", then I think you shouldn't worry about additional charging at all. Moreover, one of the power saving modes will always come to the rescue, which can extend the life of your device more and more.

Sound

The sound of the main speaker of the smartphone, in the standard, is average. There is clearly not enough low frequencies, and at a volume of medium and higher it starts to cut the ear. There is no standard sound enhancer. Headphone sound is also not outstanding

As for the earpiece and microphone, there are no complaints. We did not find a noise canceling microphone, but given the fact that the interlocutor can hear well and clearly during a conversation in any situation, it may be hidden under one of the grilles on the lower edge.

Impressions and conclusions

In general, really successful devices with a price tag of up to 12 thousand rubles are no longer surprising to anyone and this gives some confidence that this price category will be replenished every year with smartphones that can keep up with the times. That we can see on the example of Meizu M6T. Yes, it has one significant drawback, which, perhaps, will be decisive for someone - this is the lack of NFC and, as a result, the impossibility of contactless payment. But the overall picture: build quality, design, speed, good camera, nice price tag - these are weighty arguments thanks to which Meizu M6T is worthy of attention! And if you use the most profitable and honest Trade-In service from Meizu, then you can get a smartphone with a 15% discount, which is very tempting.

In contact with

Meizu M6T is a budget smartphone with a widescreen FullView display. This model is equipped with fingerprint and face scanners, as well as a dual camera for creating photos with a blur effect. The announcement of this inexpensive gadget took place in May 2018.

Appearance and ergonomics

Meizu M6T got an elongated case, which is made of practical polycarbonate. Almost all of its front part is occupied by a "frameless" screen. The top of the screen is covered with a very durable and thick 2.5D glass. In this case, the side frames are present, but their size is minimal.

There are no physical buttons on the front panel. Moreover, there is no familiar mTouch key; instead, engineers have built in a virtual mBack button, mounted directly into the display. It can be used to navigate the menus, and also supports pressure recognition technology. A flash, a vertical unit with a dual camera and a round fingerprint scanner are located at the back. At the bottom there are external speaker grilles and a microUSB port. Above is the traditional headphone jack.

Due to the strongly rounded corners of the case, the device is very comfortable to hold in the hand even for a long time. Available colors: black, red and gold. Dimensions: height - 152.3 mm, width - 73 mm, thickness - 8.4 mm, weight - 145 g.

Display

The M6T smartphone has a 5.7-inch screen with a progressive aspect ratio of 18: 9. This FullView display received a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels. This IPS-matrix is covered by a protective 2.5D glass with an effective oleophobic coating. It should be noted the excellent viewing angles, as well as a very rich color palette. The picture looks moderately juicy, but the stock of brightness on a sunny day may not be enough. But this is offset by decent anti-reflective properties of the matrix.

Iron and performance

Inside the M6T is the eight-core Mediatek MT6750 processor. Four economical cores run at 1000 MHz, while the other four run at 1500 MHz. There is a well-known graphics accelerator Mali-T860MP2. There are two versions of the smartphone: advanced - 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage, the usual - 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. There is a slot for microSD cards up to 128 GB.

It houses a built-in battery with a capacity of 3300 mAh. Its charge lasts up to two days of active use. The device is running the Android 7.0 operating system together with the Flyme 7 shell. The device has One Mind technology, which effectively accelerates the work of frequently used programs.

The performance of the gadget is average. In the AnTuTu v6 test, the phone scores about 45,000 points. In real conditions, the processor performs well enough. The chip does not heat up to excessive temperatures even during heavy load. Not all games run smoothly, but you can try to fix this by adjusting the graphics.

Communication and sound

The Meizu M6T has a fairly loud multimedia speaker. Therefore, the call can be heard even from a pocket or bag. Thanks to the high-quality conversational dynamics of the interlocutor, you can hear it really well. In headphones, the sound is also good, but not perfect. There is support for LTE and Bluetooth 4.1 networks. There is a built-in FM radio. It should also be noted that there is a hybrid slot for two SIM cards.

Camera

Meizu М6Т is equipped with a double chamber. This is the main 13-megapixel sensor with an aperture of 2.2, as well as an additional 2-megapixel module with an aperture of 2.4. There is phase detection autofocus. There is also a dual-tone LED flash. Proprietary ArcSoft algorithms make it possible to take better pictures in different conditions. In this case, the best result can be achieved precisely in daylight.

On the back is a front-facing 8-megapixel camera with 2.0 aperture and a wide-angle lens. There are shooting algorithms from ArcSoft, as well as advanced Face AE Light Boost technology. Such a camera can recognize the user's face for instant unlocking.

conclusions

The affordable M6T class smartphone turned out to be very balanced. Its strengths include a modern design, a large screen with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, a dual camera and scanners (face and prints). Such a mobile device looks quite confident against the background of many competitors in this price segment.

Pros:

  • High-quality frameless display.
  • Dual main camera.
  • Multiple scanners for maximum security.
  • Advanced appearance.
  • Functional button mBack.

Minuses:

  • Some games lack power.
  • No NFC chip provided.
  • There is no USB Type-C connector.

Preface and brief technical characteristics of the smartphone Meizu M6

The Chinese company Meizu did not immediately "find itself" in the world of electronics. She entered the market with portable mp3 players, but then turned towards smartphones, and it was here that she was able to fully realize her ambitions. Now Meizu manufactures a full range of smartphones: from "budget employees" to flagships.

Our today's "patient" (smartphone Meizu M6), according to its classification, got somewhere at the intersection of the upper part of the "state employees" and the lower part of the "middle peasants". Everything will depend on which store and at what price you will find it. :)

The average price in Russian retail for the version with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM at the date of the review is about 8600 rubles, which is more or less humane given the listed characteristics.

The smartphone is available in five colors, a gold-colored smartphone with a minimum configuration of 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of flash memory came to our "operating table".

Packaging and equipment

The packaging of our "patient" is snow-white and laconic to the limit. On the side - the name of the manufacturer, on the top - the name of the model. In a word, the traditional Meizu style.

The packaging thus functions precisely as packaging and not decoration.

The smartphone package contains only the required minimum of components: a charger, a cable to it, a tool for removing the tray, a "User's Guide" and a warranty card.

The charger and cable are worth a look, while the rest of the kit are too mundane to admire:

Charging - even a little more powerful than this phone requires: 5 Volts at a given current of 1.5 Amperes. But "the pocket does not pull the stock!"

The included tool for removing the SIM / memory card tray as usual is attached purely symbolically - it can be easily replaced with a paper clip with a bent end.

As a result, the kit includes:
- smartphone;
- Charger;
- USB cable - microUSB;
- a tool for removing the tray with SIM-kami / memory card;
- "User manual" and warranty card.

The complete set is thus minimal; but sufficient to launch a smartphone into operation.

Appearance, design and software of the smartphone Meizu M6

The design of the smartphone is made in a fairly traditional form, which is familiar and familiar to the user. But there is a subtlety - the absence of the standard three Android buttons, instead of them there is only one. To uncover the secret of this phenomenon, let's first look at the smartphone along with the transport protective film:

This tape just explains how to live when there are not enough familiar buttons; and at the same time - what is the mTouch button and how to use it. Take a look at the bottom of the previous photo, enlarged:

So, the only button located at the bottom of the smartphone is three-functional, in Meizu it was called mTouch. On the protective foil, the rules for using this electronic-mechanical button are explained in a very short form in good English.

First, this button contains a built-in fingerprint scanner. To unlock with a fingerprint, either press the button with a scanned finger until it clicks; or first "light up" the screen, for example, by briefly pressing the power button, and then gently (without clicking) put your finger on the button. The latter method provides more reliable fingerprint unlocking.

Secondly, it serves as a "back" button (with a "normal" touch),

Third, it serves as a home button when pressed until it clicks.

Instead of the side buttons of the standard Android, a finger movement is used from the field under the screen to the screen itself (this is also indicated on the protective film).

Getting used to such a system comes quickly and everything turns out very naturally.

In the next photo - the smartphone is on:

The upper part of the Meizu M6 is more familiar. Above are proximity and light sensors, earpiece and front camera. The LED for indicating events of the charging state is present, but it works only for indicating events, and does not indicate the state of the charging process.
The indicator LED is illuminated with a sufficiently noticeable blue-white light:

The front panel glass has rounded edges - the so-called "2.5D glass". There is nothing to be done - fashion! :)

Let's take a look at the view of the smartphone from the back side, first from the side of the lower edge:

And now - from the side of the upper edge:

Photos are shown before removing the protective film from the rear side. It is on this protective film that the instructions for using the tray for the SIM-ok and the memory card are shown.
There is a great temptation to leave this protective film on the smartphone forever (so as not to scratch the back side), but you still have to remove it, since it is glued on top of the camera (which does not improve its optical properties in any way).

There is no reason to describe the rear view of the smartphone - it is so standard that there is nowhere else to go. :)
It should only be mentioned literally two little things. Firstly, the "MEIZU" logo on the back cover does not seem to be embossed, but in reality it is. And secondly, although two speaker grilles are visible on the bottom edge, there is actually one speaker there, and a microphone behind the second grill.

Case material - plastic, no metal.

The tray for SIM-ok and memory card looks like this:

The tray is also made in accordance with the latest fashion trends, and this is bad. For this mod consists in the fact that one of the footprints is combined - you can install or SIM-ku, or memory card; but all together is impossible. And it would be okay if the memory in the smartphone was "in bulk", because there is not so much of it, especially in the tested modification (16 GB). So the user will have to choose the lesser, in his opinion, of evils: either the smartphone will have little memory, or there will be little SIM-ok (only one).

Now - let's move on from design Meizu M6 to his software... It is located on a couple of "main" screens and is also "tucked away" in a couple of folders - "Tools" and "Miscellaneous".

There are not many preinstalled applications; the smartphone has, one might say, "naked" Android, but in the form that Meizu understands in accordance with its Flyme OS 6 concept. That is, there is no complete identity with the standard Android, there are differences in the menu, settings, etc. etc .; but this is just a matter of getting used to, not causing any difficulty.

But, most importantly, in the screenshots provided with the software No application store Google Play Market, without which well, there simply is no happiness in life!

Now - information of particular importance. Already during the preparation of this review, Meizu announced (11/15/2017) that it had certified its latest devices with Google; and that from that moment on, Google services (including the Play Market) will be installed on its devices. Details - on Russian website Meizu.
In this regard, the further information on installing the Play Market for many users may not be relevant, but just in case, let it be.

So, the smartphone has a "third-party" application store called "App Store" (blue icon on the first of the screenshots with the list of programs). We launch it and enter Google or Google Play in the search bar; the main thing is to have the word "Google". It will not be found, but the App Store will offer an offer to search for other stores:

Ok, we agree to search in other stores and enter Google Play in the search bar. There are a lot of Google services, but we need to find and run the Play Store installation with a characteristic triangle icon:

After starting the installation, the smartphone will still ask for permission to install Google services, we agree:

That's it, the process has been successfully completed on this. With a good download speed, all these shenanigans can be done in 5 minutes.

Here is a brief summary of the required minimum of the "young fighter course" on the software of the Meizu M6 smartphone and other Meizu smartphones.

Display

The display of the smartphone has an HD resolution of 1280 x 720. Screen size - 5.2 inches; pixel density - 282 ppi (high). The display is manufactured using OGS (One Glass Solution) technology with no air gap between the screen itself and the pressure-sensitive surface, which reduces the level of glare from external light sources.

The screen as such is made using IPS technology, which provides very positive characteristics (color rendering, viewing angles, etc.) with a technically competent design.

Let's see how good he is in business.

The brightness uniformity of the white and black screen is excellent, without "spots".

The results of measurements of technical parameters are shown in the following table (display settings - "by default"):

The brightness control range is sufficient to work in any lighting - both low and high, up to direct sun.

The viewing angles of the screen are average. When the screen is rotated significantly, the image remains clear and the colors do not degrade, but the brightness drops dramatically. We can say that this smartphone is strictly for personal use, and not for collective viewing of photos or films. And the screen is not too big for these purposes.

The color temperature (80 00K) turned out to be above the standard (6500K), which gives the image a slight "cool" tint. If desired, you can correct it using the built-in screen adjustment utility.

The contrast is very high, "top class" since it is well over 1000.

Color gamut (triangle with white borders) - does not completely match the sRGB standard (triangle with gray borders), but hardly any of the users will be able to notice this:

Touch - normal: the display distinguishes up to 10 simultaneous touches. This is for a screen of this size, perhaps, even "architectural excess", but oh well, let it be. Touch sensitivity is good.

In addition, it should be noted the remarkable olephobic coating of the screen: the finger glides perfectly, prints stick to the screen poorly.

At the end of this part of the "prophylactic examination", we must admit that the screen is very good, and for its price class it is generally excellent!

Meizu M6 smartphone platform and performance

The Meizu M6 smartphone uses a 64-bit processor (SoC) MediaTek MT6750, consisting of as many as 8 Cortex-A53 cores, but they are not equal. The nuclei form two clusters of 4 nuclei each; in a "slow" cluster, they operate at 1 GHz, and in a "fast" cluster, at 1.5 GHz.

Our patient's RAM is 2 GB, which is a normal average level. And the permanent memory - 16 GB, it will not be enough. But, let me remind readers, there is also a modification of this smartphone with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash memory. True, as it was said in the classic film, "the better the fur, the more expensive it is." :)

Let's take a look at the device platform from the point of view of the AnTuTu benchmark:

Now - let's start testing; Let's start all with the same AnTuTu:

In total, the result of the antutu test for the Meizu M6 smartphone was 40198 parrots points. This just falls on a certain conditional boundary between "state employees" and "middle peasants". But for the comfortable work of the overwhelming majority of ordinary (ie, non-gaming) applications will be enough, and in some 3D games it will be possible to "hack".

Let's run a little more in other "running" tests.

Geekbench:

Epic Citadel Minimum Quality Settings:

The result is good, games of this level (with not very dynamic action) will go well.

Now - the same Epic Citadel, but in the maximum quality settings:

For the maximum quality setting, the result is not bad either. The explanation is simple: the screen resolution is not Full HD (1920 * 1080), but "just" HD (1280 * 720), which makes the tasks of the processor and graphics easier.

Then - 3 DMark in "Ice Storm Extreme" version:

The results are average, confirming that the device is not hopeless for 3D games. But not for everyone.

And more - Basemark X:

Finally, Bonsai:

What conclusion should be drawn from these tests?
Only one: performance- at an intermediate level, when for "cool" games it is still not enough, and for medium games it is already enough, especially if the settings are made lower.

Let's move on to flash memory.

On a "freshly unpacked" smartphone, the user has access to 9.76 GB out of the total volume of 16 GB. The rest is occupied by the operating system and reserve:

Free memory space - "not a lot". The user will either need to fill the memory very sparingly and clear it of "garbage" in a timely manner, or simply fork out for an additional memory card (donating a second SIM card for it). and the "older" one, where 32 GB of flash memory is installed.

To connect external storage "for a while", you can use standard USB flash drives using the USB OTG port. The following screenshot shows the memory status when both a micro SD memory card and an external USB flash drive are connected at the same time:

True, in the picture just presented, the built-in file manager of the smartphone for some reason shows instead of the name of the volume of the flash drive some of its internal number "2E8F-8A3A", but in nature there are other file managers.

But to connect flash drives and other devices to a smartphone via a USB port, you will need to purchase an additional USB OTG adapter for a standard micro-USB port (there are no problems in trading with them).

Multimedia (sound and video)

The smartphone has a typical sound scheme: a monaural ringer speaker and a headphone output in the form of a standard 3.5 mm jack. Innovations from the latest trends in the spirit of smartphones without a standard headphone output, thank God, have not been applied.

Bass in the sound of the built-in speaker, as usual, is poorly presented, high and medium frequencies are normal. The volume level is good. Even quiet tracks in movies can be "squeezed" by adjusting the volume to a comfortable level.

In the headphones, on the other hand (if they are of medium or high level), you can hear better sound. There are no problems with the frequency range, the noise does not creep through. And the volume, similar to the built-in speaker, has a large adjustment margin.

Video playback by the built-in player pleased with the successful recognition of all standard video and sound formats offered to it; no need to install an external player. But the processor speed limitation affected: the smartphone showed video with formats higher than Full HD @ 30 fps with frame drops. True, there is no point in playing such videos here, since the screen resolution is lower than the video resolution, and there will be no quality improvement.

We estimate the level of multimedia in our "patient" as good.

Communication and navigation

The smartphone has a modern 4G connection. The OOKLA Speedtest application showed the following speed value on average:

These figures, of course, simply confirm the performance of the 4G Internet channel at an adequate level. The actual speed in different areas and for different operators can be very different.

Other types of wireless communication - Wi-Fi and Bluetooth - worked without problems, as is usually the case, while NFC did not work, because it is simply not there.

Navigation system the smartphone with a "cold" start was done in a little more than a minute; and with "hot" starts - in a few seconds (as it should be).

The launch of the AndroidTS navigation testing application showed that the smartphone supports only two navigation systems - the imperialist GPS and the domestic GLONASS:

A test track recording confirmed very good navigation accuracy. Here is an example of recording several circles on a bicycle around the Falconry Fort quarter (a photo of this quarter will be further, in the section on testing cameras):

The navigation is very good.

Battery

Smartphone battery capacity - 3070 mAh; which should be considered an attempt to somehow stand out from the background of other smartphones, which have a capacity of exactly 3000 mAh. :)

In the Guided Tour test of the Epic Citadel 3D game, the smartphone worked for a little more than 4 hours; and when watching HD movies - almost 9 hours. These results are roughly in line with the typical average.

The charging time was about 2.5 hours, which is very good (typical time for a typical phone is exactly 3 hours).

Under heavy load, the smartphone did not warm up much, there were no signs of overheating.

The autonomy of the device is estimated at the usual average level.

Cameras

So we come to the most controversial place of our "patient" - the cameras.

The main (rear) camera has 13 megapixelsher (4160 * 3120), F / 2.2; and the front one has 8 megapixeli (3264 * 2448), F / 2.

According to the data from the official Meizu website, an RGBW sensor is installed in the main camera, which should improve the camera's performance in low light conditions (see the article about these sensors on Wikipedia). The manufacturer does not indicate which specific sensor is used in this smartphone, but Dr. Smartpulse suspects that this is the IMX278 sensor from SONY.

Let's start testing with photos taken with the main camera.

By clicking the photos will be displayed in a new window in full size, the size of the files - up to 6 MB (!).

In general, the quality is not bad, but the drop in clarity is noticeable at the left edge of the picture. This is a defect in the optics, and, most likely, the front protective window of the camera. This will also apply to all subsequent photographs.

The video was shot in Full HD (1920x1080), a stream of 17.2 Mbps, 30 frames per second (these are normal parameters for a Full HD format). The video is of average quality, it could be better.

In the freeze frame, a low definition of the image is noticeable (at an increase of up to 100%), as well as the "fracture" of the oblique lines:

At this point, we consider the consultation of doctors completed and proceed to the results.

The final diagnosis of the Meizu M6 smartphone

The smartphone is one of the most affordable models from Meizu. In this capacity, it fully meets expectations and is quite worthy of its price.

If we talk more specifically about the advantages and disadvantages, then they can be described as follows.

The advantages are compact dimensions with a small thickness, a very high-quality screen, a good level of navigation, as well as performance sufficient even for some 3D games (but not all). With wireless communication - complete order; as for wired communication, there is support for USB OTG (you can connect flash drives and some other devices).

In terms of shortcomings, we note the conflicting quality of photos and videos. The matrix in the camera lives up to its reputation for low-noise, but the quality of the optics and software algorithms for photo and video processing fails. There is also a certain "reserve" of quality that the manufacturer could raise by simply "fixing" the firmware (whether he will do this is another question).

Where can I buy.
For the Russian Federation, the surest way is to find a retail outlet or an online store on Yandex-Market (just do not confuse Meizu M6 and Meizu M6 Note phones! It's better with the "Note" suffix, but more expensive).
In other countries, there should also be similar services for finding retail outlets.

This budget smartphone, which claims to repeat the success of its predecessor, is made in a compact polycarbonate case with "metallization". In addition to the attractive price, the device boasts a high-quality display, a nimble fingerprint scanner and a relatively capacious battery. All the pros and cons of Meizu M6 were found out by Vesti.Hi-tech

As you know, the Meilan lineup includes devices with an obligatory balance between low cost and acceptable performance. Information about the replenishment of the "M" line, including photos, leaked to the Network even before the premiere of the new smartphone. As it turned out, the M6 did get all the features attributed to it, including looks, specifications and price. Judging by the manufacturer's statement, the new device is conceived as a worthy replacement for Meizu's bestseller in Russia - a model that successfully combines price, performance and design. Having offered an updated exterior, somewhat different from its predecessor, the M6 does not surprise at all with its budget filling, since its "stuffing" has practically not changed.

Meizu M6 review: design, ergonomics

Meizu M6 review: sound

The sonic abilities of the M6 don't seem to have changed at all. So a rather loud "multimedia" speaker should still prefer headphones, for which the spectrum can be adjusted using a 5-band equalizer. The stock smartphone audio player "Music" allows you to play tracks created by codecs for compressing audio data without loss of quality (FLAC and APE). With the Voice Recorder application, you can record monaural conversations in MP3 format (44.1 kHz) via the "spoken" microphone.

Meizu M6 review: filling, performance

The "fiery motor" - MediaTek MT6750, intended for budget-class smartphones, was decided to be kept in the M6 as well. Recall that the processor on this crystal, working in tandem with the ARM Mali-T860 MP2 graphics accelerator, consists of two quartets of ARM Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of up to 1.5 GHz and up to 1.0 GHz, respectively. In addition, the MT6750 chip, which includes a 4G modem (LTE Cat.6), supports displays with a resolution of up to 1280x720 pixels and 16-megapixel cameras. In modifications of the M6 model with 16 GB / 32 GB (eMMC 5.1) of built-in storage, 2 GB / 3 GB (LPDDR3) of RAM are installed, respectively. For the test we got a device with a combination of 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

TestingMeizuM6 ... Results in the AnTuTu benchmark

TestingMeizuM6. Results in the benchmark GeekBench

TestingMeizuM6 ... Visual test results EpicCitadel

Since the basic hardware platform of the M6 remains the same, the results of the main tests have not changed either (discrepancies within the margin of error).

Of the installed 16 GB of internal memory, about 10 GB remain available. To expand the storage, it is possible to install a microSD / HC / XC memory card with a maximum capacity of up to 128 GB. But having taken its place on the double tray, you will have to abandon the second nanoSIM. Support for USB-OTG technology allows you to connect a USB flash drive to your smartphone.

Two nanoSIM cards alternately operate with one radio channel in Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) mode. At the same time, in the fourth generation network, the LTE modem (Cat. 4, up to 150 Mbit / s) supports, inter alia, the frequency ranges LTE-FDD b3 (1800 MHz), b7 (2600 MHz) and b20 (800 MHz ). The set of wireless communications also includes Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n (5 GHz + 2.4 GHz).

GPS and GLONASS satellites are used to determine the location and navigation, which is confirmed by the results of the AndroiTS GPS Test and GPS Test programs. There is also support for A-GPS technology.

The volume of the lithium polymer battery installed in the M6 has not changed - 3,070 mAh. At the same time, the lack of fast charging technology does not allow counting on a quick filling of such a capacity to a "full tank". However, with 100% battery filling, the manufacturer optimistically promises two days of work, even with active use of the smartphone. So, in one day you can be absolutely calm. By the way, 5 hours of continuous photo shooting, or 10 hours of games, or up to 86 hours of listening to music are an alternative.

The AnTuTu Tester test rated the work with the smartphone battery at 7,002 points. A set of videos in MP4 format (hardware decoding) and HD quality at full brightness spun continuously for about 7 hours. For a state employee, this is, in principle, a good result.

To save power, the Batteries settings offer two power saving modes (including Super Mode), which reduce consumption to the lowest possible level, depending on the available smartphone functionality. Here, depending on the situation, it is recommended to focus on maximum performance, or strike a balance between performance and autonomy.

Meizu M6 review: software features

Installing the Google Play app store on the M6 turned, as usual, into an exciting quest. True, the message that Meizu has finally passed the certification procedure was somewhat reassuring, and its global versions of new devices will henceforth come with pre-installed GMS (Google Mobile Services) services.

The new state employee is running the Android 7.0 (Nougat) operating system, the interface of which is replaced by the proprietary Flyme OS version 6.2.0.0G. As you know, there is no application menu in this launcher, and program shortcuts, folders and widgets are placed right on the desktops. There are 15 quick access icons on the notification curtain, and four more are in the list of additional ones.

The task manager, depending on the settings, is convenient to launch with a vertical and / or horizontal swipe. In this case, the list of open applications opens horizontally, the "Close all" icon is available at the bottom of the screen, and the amount of used memory is displayed for each application. A running program (swiping down on its preview opens a menu) can be protected from closing, hide the contents of its screen when scrolling, or (if possible) open it in one of the two windows into which the screen is divided.

In the "Special Features" section, we have provided for the activation of special modes, including children's, game and classic Flyme. They also collected gestures for quickly waking up a smartphone, as well as "smart" gestures for a ring with adjustable transparency.

The fingerprint scanner, the same as in the flagship models, can save up to five fingerprints and recognize papillary patterns at any angle in 0.2 seconds. Using this device, you can not only protect the inclusion of a smartphone, but also block the launch of any application.

Meizu M6 review: purchase, conclusions

A compact smartphone with ambitions to be a bestseller in its class of devices, dressed in a nice "metallized" polycarbonate case. Among the advantages of the Meizu M6 were also a high-quality screen, a relatively capacious battery and a smart fingerprint scanner. Compared to the previous model, the new items have not only refreshed the design, but also updated the cameras.

The new budget device inherited not the most productive processor, and in addition, it retained the mandatory choice between installing a second SIM card and expanding memory. At the same time, the price for the 2 GB / 16 GB and 3 GB / 32 GB versions (RAM / built-in memory) was left as the predecessor - 10,990 rubles and 12,990 rubles, respectively.

Among the 5.2-inch "classmates" it is worth paying attention, for example, to the Asus ZenFone 4 Max (ZC520KL) and Huawei Honor 6C Pro. So, the main "chips" of Asus ZenFone 4 Max, which in a configuration of 2 GB / 16 GB was estimated at 11,990 rubles, became a dual main camera (13 MP + 5 MP), a capacious battery (4 100 mAh), a flash for 8 -MP front camera, as well as the simultaneous installation of two SIM-cards and a microSD card. In turn, Huawei Honor 6C Pro, which differs little from the Meizu M6 in terms of basic filling, can boast at least the fact that, at the time of testing, 10,990 rubles were asked for its version of 3 GB / 32 GB.

The results of the review of the smartphone Meizu M6

Pros:

  • Attractive price
  • Compact form factor
  • Updated design
  • High-quality screen
  • Relatively large battery
  • Fingerprint scanner

Minuses:

  • Low performance
  • Choosing between installing a second SIM card and expanding the memory

At the beginning of last year, Meizu announced massive changes that are taking place internally. And the manufacturer really needed them, since the strategy of 2016, when a lot of monotonous (and, as a result, boring) devices came out, would not lead to anything good in the long run. The lineup was cut and it was decided to dilute the fleet of MediaTek processors with solutions from Qualcomm and Samsung. The echoes of the coming big changes happened in August, when the Meizu M6 Note debuted on the Snapdragon 625. Despite the fact that there was already a Snapdragon smartphone in the Meizu catalog (the M1 Note version for China's CDMA networks, presented in January 2015), in the global market The M6 Note pioneered and is hailed as “the first Meizu smartphone with a Qualcomm processor”. However, a month later, the M6 was shown, which was not much different from the previous Meilan budget models (since the days of M2). And in January 2018, the debut of M6s took place in a completely new design and on the Exynos chipset, which, in my opinion, opened a new page after the reorganization. And Meizu M6, thus, became the last smartphone of the "old Meizu". How did he come out? Let's tell you now.

Complete set and design

Since we are very lucky, the Meizu M6 came to the test with a base amount of memory - 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM. But the sadness was short-lived, as the smartphone turned out to be in a juicy blue. Black, gold and silver versions are also officially sold in Russia. A familiar kit was found in a familiar white box: a microUSB cable, a charging block (5 V - 1.5 A), a tray extraction needle and documentation.

The hallmark of Meizu smartphones is a convenient touch-mechanical button mTouch with a built-in fingerprint scanner, framed in a metal oval - it is here and on the front side of the M6 it is easy to confuse with the previous models of the brand. The front is decorated with a 5.2 "display with rounded glass, earpiece, notification LED, selfie camera and sensors.

But the back of the M6 is different from the rest! The backrest is made of polycarbonate combined with a metallized coating. The manufacturer's website states that it is applied using vacuum metallization technology. In fact, it all looks and feels unusual - it looks as if the case with a translucent back was covered with a matte film, leaving the slots for the Meizu logo and decorative stripes supposedly for the output of the antennas. The surface of the device has excellent resistance to fingerprints and smudges.

There are no complaints about ergonomics - a compact, lightweight, rather comfortable device. Assembly is also normal. The sound of the Meizu M6 Note pleasantly surprised us both in the headphones and from the speaker, but the M6 could not please. In the headphones, the sound is more or less (unassuming listeners will be satisfied, but for everyone else there are older models), but the speaker chokes at maximum volume and reproduces mainly the upper frequencies.

Large Chinese players began to introduce inexpensive widescreen smartphones with a screen ratio of 18: 9 only at the beginning of 2018, although little-known brands from Shenzhen were ahead of them, starting to massively release such gadgets in the fall of 2017. The M6 uses an IPS-screen with an aspect ratio of 16: 9 and against the background of the same M6s with 18: 9 it looks outdated - the margins at the top and bottom are perceived as gigantic (although this is not the case). The 720p 5.2 ”display produces a pixel density of 282 ppi. The matrix is not the best, but not the worst: there is enough clarity for a comfortable pastime in the games and in the browser, there is a slight inversion of colors at the corners, and the maximum brightness on a sunny day is enough end-to-end. There is an oleophobic coating, the touch supports up to 10 touches.

Software

Meizu M6 runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, covered with Flyme OS 6.2 proprietary firmware. This is one of the first Google-certified Meizu smartphones, in which the necessary services are installed by default and the user does not need to search for the "gaps" installer in the Chinese App Store. From third-party applications, BookTouch, Sberbank, Yandex, TouchPal keyboard and games (Asphalt Nitro, Puzzle Pets, Mad Squirrel, Spider-Man, Real Football) are installed on the device. Everything except the App Store can be uninstalled.

Google certification required the implementation of a navigation bar, which is active by default. To return the traditional Meizu one-button control via mTouch, you need to go to the settings and turn off the Show Navigation Bar item.

When the phone was turned on for the first time, the firmware was Flyme 6.2.0.1G, and the smartphone was not perfect. For example, screenshots were made zoomed in height (1196 points instead of 1280). Fortunately, in the OTA update utility, although I did not immediately, I still noticed an update to 6.2.0.2G and then to 6.2.0.0RU. Installed everything and reset to factory settings. The bug with the resolution of screenshots was gone, and the interface became faster (although the lack of RAM was still felt). Whatever one may say, 2 GB of RAM is not enough even for HD resolution in modern Android smartphones. I recommend buying Android phones with at least 3GB of RAM.

Cameras

The basis of the Meizu M6 camera is a 13-megapixel Sony IMX278 sensor with 1.12 micron pixels, the optics has an aperture of f / 2.2, there is a phase detection autofocus and a two-tone flash. The application is standard, there is HDR, manual mode and many others.

Daytime shots are quite good in quality, with correct color reproduction, good white balance, but a narrow dynamic range. Problems are caused by automatic focusing, which often does not understand that it needs to aim into the distance. Therefore, from time to time, you get the following frames:

This can be avoided if you help the camera with your finger or wait a little until the automatics figure it out. HDR is unstable and tends to overexpose, so use it with caution:

Night photos are more or less decent, although you need to understand that even expensive flagships at a price of 6-7 times more are not always capable of taking good pictures in difficult conditions. At dusk, the M6 definitely shoots no worse than Chinese non-names on the Helio P20, which are twice as expensive, but check it out for yourself:

The front camera has an 8 megapixel OmniVision OV8856 sensor, 4-lens optics with f / 2.0 aperture, autofocus and no flash. The focus is fixed on the face, so selfies come out clear. The dynamic range could be wider (the background is highlighted), but for the money, the selfies are great.

The maximum video resolution (mp4 format) is limited to Full HD at 30 frames per second. Focusing is carried out only by touch, no stabilization is provided, and the sound track is head and shoulders above the sound from the toilet in many Xiaomi Redmi. However, the footage itself is more like 720p than 1080p. However, look
