Who founded 1 social network. Who created Tumblr? At the dawn of a new era

Today, social networks on the Internet are specialized sites that provide networking of people on certain grounds. In the growth of their popularity, the features of people as social beings were clearly manifested. Modern technologies make it easy to choose, practically, any signs by which network users can unite.

Most often, association occurs according to such parameters as belonging to a certain race or nationality, interests in the field of art and music, financial position and social status, gender, age, and so on. A mandatory criterion for participation in a social network on the Internet is the ability to access the network.

Among the various subspecies of social resources, such large groups are distinguished:

— social media repositories;
— professional networks;
— social libraries and other resources.

The presence of a developed system of such resources enables a person to quickly find acquaintances in the right direction, communicate productively, exchange information or files without being affected by differences in geographical locations of users.

History of occurrence

Back in the mid-nineties of the last century, the progenitor of modern social resources appeared - the classmates.com portal. The sharp rise in its popularity gave rise to dozens of similar services around the world.

At first, the main purpose of user participation in such resources was to establish contacts for business and production. Further, interest forums began to emerge. Some of them accepted everyone, others had closed access only by invitation or some other restrictions on membership were introduced.

In the early 2000s, the number of Internet users increased and tools for interacting online developed. This significantly increased the number of visitors to social resources and the variety of purposes with which they applied there. At this time, a particularly successful social network was launched - Facebook, which today has gained immense popularity around the world and sets the standards for other resources in this direction.

It was with its development that sociologists included a new phenomenon for the world - social networks - in the list of social phenomena inseparable from human culture.

Social networks and human society

♦ Today, social networks clearly influence the development of the political system in the world. Thus, the social pages of social and public figures have many visitors. Through their mechanisms, direct communication is carried out between politicians and their voters, members of society who sympathize with them.

♦ Thus, US President Barack Obama actively uses to communicate with citizens of the country and foreign users of the network Facebook, and Dmitry Medvedev - "Classmates" And Twitter. Due to the great influence of social networks on people's opinions, the peculiarities of communication through them of public figures in many countries have already begun to be regulated by law.

Technical features

The developers try to keep the interface of social networks of general access quite simple. You can register in it and maintain your blog, fill your page or public group with certain content. Other users can give their comments on the content of the pages. Thus, the content of the social network is interactively formed.

For the convenience of real-time communication of users, chats are organized for them. But this is only the visible part of the mechanism of work.

Work from the technical side is provided by servers located in various parts of the world that collect and process information flows. Uninterrupted operation requires that equipment in various parts of the globe function reliably, and communication between technical devices must also work reliably. Therefore, the administration of social networks needs to monitor possible failures and problems and immediately respond to them in order to eliminate them.

Using Social Resources for Promotion

Everyone knows that having good quality resources on a website is a positive factor in terms of search engines. Various mechanisms are used to increase the number of links. But not all links are perceived positively by search engines. Of great importance is the authority and naturalness of the received link.

A large number of participants in social networks, the diversity of their interests and geographical remoteness make it almost impossible for any targeted impact on them on a massive scale. Therefore, links from popular social networks are highly valued by search engines and play a significant positive role in website promotion.

The whole principle of work is built on convenient communication (communication) with users. It can be done in the following ways:

  • Groups and communities- they gather groups of people similar in some basic interest. For example, a community of fans of some musical group. There, people will be able to follow the news of this group, discuss it, share their opinions, offer their own cover versions of songs, and so on.
  • Personal correspondence
  • Microblogs and walls- here you can post your own posts. For example, news, and so on. Your followers and friends will be able to follow them, like them, and so on.
  • Comments

If this is a regular user, then as a rule, he creates a profile page and configures it. Then he looks for his friends, communicates with them, follows their news.

This user can post various information on his page (photos, videos, texts, and so on). At the same time, his friends will always be aware of the news. That is, if your friend posts a video about his vacation, then you will know about it.

You can also join various communities of interest and communicate with like-minded people there.

As a rule, separate groups and communities are created for this. In them, companies provide users with their offers. For example, discounts, contests, expert content, and so on.

Social networks have become so convenient in communication that businesses have begun to additionally use them as a platform for working with clients. For example, answer user questions. Give some recommendations to your target audience and so on.

History of social networks

First social network

The first social network actually emerged in 1999. It was Live Journal livejournal). And at first it looked more like a blog platform than a network. It was invented in the USA. But then the Russian company Klimenko ( President's Internet Adviser) bought this project.

In the future, this platform began to add elements of communication. If earlier it was only possible to publish text there, then useful features appeared. For example, following another person, comments, and so on.

Thanks to all these features, Live Journal has become a social network.

In general, speaking about the history of the emergence of social networks, many projects have appeared recently. However, most of them have not received much recognition from users. Therefore, here we will consider only the most popular sites.

Twitter

After Live Journal, Twitter became popular. It has become a good replacement for livejournal. After all, there were big posts in LiveJournal at that time.

But the problem is that only a small percentage of people can write such large poems. As a result, people cannot interact with themselves through their content. They can only interact in comments.

Twitter, on the other hand, made it possible for all people to write small notes of 140 characters in order to outline their thoughts. This feature has made Twitter a popular LiveJournal replacement.

Also, do not forget that most people are lazy creatures. Not everyone likes to read huge posts. As a rule, most prefer to read small notes.

Twitter itself appeared in 2006 and began to rapidly gain momentum.

Facebook

After Twitter, Facebook came to replace it, as it provided the opportunity to create direct and more understandable communication. In addition to the fact that you can post content, you can also quickly interact with people there. For example, chat with them.

At that time, Twitter did not have such an option in private messages. Therefore, due to this, the FB was promoted very quickly.

Initially, since 2004, Facebook was available only to students of various universities. But since 2006, this network has become available worldwide. In 2008, it became the most popular social network.

Instagram

Facebook was followed by Instagram in 2011. He became famous for the content in the photo format.

But then I just wanted to look at the pictures. It was no longer important text support. People just wanted to flip through the photos. Instagram gave them that opportunity.

Then Instagram came to replace snapchat. It used actual photo content, which becomes unavailable after 24 hours. This, by the way, later became available on Instagram.

But why did it become so popular then? And it became popular because people needed only relevant content in real time.

For example, to write news, a journalist will need time to prepare the material. Come to the place of the event, find out everything and so on.

But with the advent of the chance to publish relevant content, we have the opportunity to post material on the go and in real time.

For example, if a car catches fire on my street now, I can immediately shoot a video and put it on the Internet. As a result, users will be able to get up-to-date information as quickly as possible.

But apart from the fact that Snapchat could get up-to-date information, there was no way to edit it clearly. You could add some filters. But it was impossible to change it harshly, like on Instagram, then.

Social networks in Russia

However, after the addition of pirated music and videos, VK began to take off at an incredible speed. This gave a big leap forward. As a result, in Russia it has become much more popular than Facebook.

Instagram- this is the next leader, which is also popular in Runet. Thanks to the ability to rummage through posts, this project began to gain popularity.

Facebook is the third most popular project in Runet. However, for the whole world, it was a cool social network. With us, he moved to another plan after Vkontakte appeared.

Well, the last popular social project in Runet is classmates. In fact, they have nothing unique. It's just that the network itself is developing through search and communication with classmates. It was created in 2006.

Here I have listed only the most popular social networks. Of course, there were many more. However, many of them are already closed. And besides, you can’t consider all projects here. Yes, this is nothing.

Why social networks will be in trend for a long time?

And despite the fact that we feel like we have been cooking in this topic for a long time, to the social. networks in the form in which they are now, we came not so long ago.

Social network (Internet) - an interactive multi-user website, the content of which is filled by the network participants themselves. The site is an automated social environment that allows you to communicate with a group of users united by a common interest. Communication is carried out through the web service of internal mail or instant messaging. There are also social networks for searching not only people by interests, but also the objects of these interests themselves: websites, music they listen to, etc. .

The Internet is the most massive and prompt source of information. It is difficult to find any area of human activity that would not be represented on the Internet in its entirety by hundreds and thousands of "pages". The Internet is the world's largest source of entertainment. Games and music, cinema and theater - all kinds of art and all the creations of a huge entertainment industry are represented today on the Internet. This is the most progressive means of communication and communication. Every day, Internet users send each other hundreds of millions of e-mails - for many of them, the Internet has completely replaced regular mail. The Internet is a huge space for creativity. With the help of the Web, you can make yourself known to the whole world by creating a personal home page.

History of the origin of social networks. The modern theory of social networks dates back to 1951 from Anatoly Rapoport and Ray Solomonoff. In 1959–1968 Hungarian mathematicians Alfred Renyi and Paul Erdos wrote eight papers describing the principles of social network formation. At the same time, social networks have become the main reason why the amount of time spent on the Internet continues to grow today.

The main difference between social networks and traditional media is that social media, in relations with its users, appeals to a different category of feelings - basically, to a sense of belonging to a particular community. One of the factors in the popularity of networks around the world is the anonymity or partial anonymity of the participants in social networks. The participant reports about himself only that part of the information that he considers necessary or possible to report, and this makes it possible to change the perception of himself in the eyes of other users.

The first social networks. Around the mid-90s, the first social networks appeared, they provided users with initial opportunities for communication, like ICQ, eGroups / OneList, Evite. Such networking services are generally not considered social networks, but nevertheless they became the very foundation on which online services for communication and user interaction were further developed.

The member profile is where online life begins after registration. The profile usually contains an indication of the participant's gender, age, marital status, education, places of work, interests. From an information technology perspective, a profile is an entry in an actor database.

The profile of the user's account can be found by other members. Distinguish between open and closed social networks. One of the typical features of social networks is the system of "friends" and "groups".

The official date of the appearance of social networks. Social networks began their victorious march on the Internet in 1995 with the American portal Classmates.com (“Odnoklassniki” is its Russian counterpart). The project turned out to be very successful, which in the next few years provoked the emergence of more than a dozen similar services. But the official beginning of the social networking boom is considered to be 2003-2004, when LinkedIn, MySpace and Facebook were launched.

The fashion for social networks came to Russia two years later - in 2006, with the advent of Odnoklassniki and VKontakte. Social networks have become a kind of Internet haven, where everyone can find a technical and social basis for creating their virtual "I". At the same time, each user got the opportunity not only to communicate and create, but also to share the fruits of their creativity with a multi-million audience of a particular social network.

Six Degrees, launched in 1997 by Andrew Weinreich, can be called a full-fledged first social network in our understanding. The purpose of the social network was an attempt to prove the "theory of six handshakes" ("Six degrees separation" in English terminology). This theory is one of the main ones in the study of social ties, its essence lies in the fact that any 2 people on Earth are connected to each other by a chain of acquaintances of a maximum of 6 people. However, in 2001, this social network ceased to exist.

On March 18, 1999, an American student-programmer Brad Fitzpatrick created a "live journal" Livejournal. This service subsequently became a mass hosting of blogs and is very popular in the CIS countries.

Ryze became the first web-resource focused on finding and maintaining business contacts. It was created in 2001.

Friendster was developed by Jonathan Abrams in 2002. At the moment, more than 115 million people around the world are registered on the resource.

In the same year, in December, the social network LinkedIn was created. The social network was launched in May 2003 by Reid Hoffman. The purpose of this social network was to find and establish business contacts. At the moment, LinkedIn has over 200 million registered users.

In 2003, a new social network, MySpace, was created. It provides the ability to create personal profiles, customize the appearance of your profiles yourself, create communities of interest, post photos, videos and audios of famous artists.

In 2004, Ludicorp launched the Flickr project. The creators of this idea are Stuart Butterfield and Katerina Fake. The goal of the project was to allow Game Neverending players to save their images during the game in order to post them on the Internet in the future.

In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg founded the social network The Facebook. In 2005, the network became known as Facebook. The initial goal of the social network was to provide an opportunity for Harvard University students to communicate with each other, post photos, videos, change statuses on-line. Facebook today is the second most popular website in the world, behind the first position of the Google search engine.

In 2006, Jack Dorsey launched the Twitter project and immediately became a rapidly growing new social networking project. The uniqueness of Twitter lies in the ability of users to send short text messages (up to 140 characters). Twitter is currently one of the top 10 most visited websites in the world.

In the territory of the CIS countries, social networks began to appear in 2006. The first major social networks were Odnoklassniki and Vkontakte. Odnoklassniki is an analogue of the Classmates project. Vkontakte can be called an exact copy of Facebook, although its creators deny this.

The Odnoklassniki project was launched on March 4, 2006 by Albert Popkov. The main task of the social network was to search for classmates, classmates, former graduates, friends, acquaintances, as well as relatives with whom contact was lost.

The most famous and popular social network in the CIS, Vkontakte, was launched on October 10, 2006 and positioned itself as a social network for university graduates. To date, the site has more than 42 million daily traffic and is the most popular and most visited resource in the CIS market. In 2012, Vkontakte switched to the new domain VK.com. To date, "Vkontakte" is the largest video and audio hosting in Runet. By 2016, over 380 million users were registered on the network.

Recently, many new social networks have been created, and they are not always created for general use. There are narrowly focused social networks, the purpose of which is to gather people with common interests. The number of people, of course, in such social networks is an order of magnitude lower than those that focus on reaching all users, but such social networks have their advantages.

Thus, having considered the various approaches of the authors to the definition of the concept of "social network", we came to the conclusion that a social network is a means of communication that provides several undeniable advantages for promoting a company and products or services compared to other channels. The Internet is the most massive and prompt source of information. We also conducted a retrospective and modern analysis of social networks.

Not everyone knows that the concept of "social network" appeared in 1954 and, of course, had nothing to do with the Internet, and they began to study this phenomenon back in the 30s of the last century. The concept was introduced by sociologist James Barnes: a "social network" is a social structure consisting of a group of nodes that are social objects (people or organizations) and the connections between them (social relationships) (more on Wikipedia). In simpler terms, this is a certain group of familiar people, where the person himself is the center, and his acquaintances are branches. There are two-way or one-way links between all network members. For example, it can be a group of classmates in which a certain Jack is the center, and Bill and Catherine are his acquaintances (branches).

Gradually, the scientific concept gained popularity, first in the developed capitalist countries, then in Eastern Europe. As society has developed, we have come to the information age, in which we have created a lot of types of communication, which led to a leap in the development of social networks, and now this scientific concept is used everywhere. I will consider exclusively the development of social networks on the Internet.

A landmark event was the invention of the Internet, which became public in 1991, thanks to the British scientist Tim Berners-Lee.

In 1995, Randy Conrad created Classmates.com - the first social network in the modern sense. The concept turned out to be in great demand, and this year the rapid development of social networks on the Internet begins. Today, this network is still one of the most popular in the world and has more than 50 million users.

In 2004, Facebook appears, which in a few years becomes the most popular social network in the world. It uses the same communication mechanism, in a slightly different plane, which leads to a revolution in this area. The number of active users as of the middle of 2011 is more than 700 million.

In September 2005, Tim O'Reilly makes an ideological revolution by introducing the concept of "Web 2.0" in his article "Tim O'Reilly - What Is Web 2.0", which describes the modern Internet. One of the central parts of the new concept is occupied by social networks.

In 2008, the Groupon project appears - a collective discount service, which, on the one hand, is based precisely on the principle of social networks (call your friends and get a general discount), and on the other hand, uses social connections very superficially (only for purchases). The service connects communication and business, which can surely be called a new level of development of social networks on the Internet, which combines online and offline worlds.

For avid fans of social networks, I recommend the light program fvcheat. Very simple and easy to use, it will help you quickly get, for example, a large number of likes. I know that many girls madly want to see three- or even four-digit numbers next to the heart under their photo. And that's not all))) For those who are interested, you can find more information at the link.
