Removing the background of an image allows you to highlight smaller details, place them on a new background, and draw attention to certain elements of the picture. We'll tell you how remove background in photoshop.

Method 1 of 2:

Remove the background quickly

Step 1

Use the tool " Quick Selection» ( Quick Selection) to quickly highlight the elements you want to keep in the image. The tool looks like a brush with a small dotted ball at the end. It should be the fourth tool from the top in the toolbox.

Tool " Quick Selection» automatically finds borders near which you click, adding them to the selection:

Step 2

Click the mouse near the borders of the elements you want to keep. Click and pan around the image and the details you want to keep that are not the background will be highlighted. Continue until everything you need to keep is included in the selection.

If you make a mistake, hold down Alt and click on the area you don't want to select to deselect it.

Using the "[" and "]" keys, you can make the selection tool larger or smaller.

To remove white background in photoshop, highlight it, and then click " Delete". He will disappear!

Step 3

Go to the Refine Edge menu ( Refine Edge) to adjust the selection area. This is the menu located in the section " Selection"; "Refine Edge" ( selection; Refine Edge) lets you see how the image would look without the background. From now on, you have several possible options. First, choose On White from the View field at the top of the Refine Edge menu.

  • Radius ( Radius): allows you to compress the borders. A value of 1-2 pixels will usually subtly exclude background bits;
  • Smooth ( Smooth): removes hard borders, so you get a more rounded selection;
  • Feather ( Feather): blurs the edges, allowing you to avoid bumps or complex, imperfect selections, such as, for example, hair;
  • Contrast ( contrast): makes the borders sharper before removing the background in Photoshop. The opposite of the "Smooth" operation;
  • Shift edge ( Shift Edge): increases or decreases the selection based on a percentage of the original:

Step 4

Right-click on the selection to extract it from the background. Click "OK" in the window " Refine Border”, then right-click on any selected area. Select " Conclusion: on a new layer' to separate the image from the background.

Make sure the selection is open when you right-click. If not, press the V key to bring up the normal cursor, and then press the right mouse button:

Step 5

Delete the background layer to separate your image. Now you can remove background in photoshop. You can do this piecemeal, slowly removing the background and creating new layers by copying, or just delete the entire layer. Either way, you'll get an image without a background.

Method 2 of 2:

Using other tools

Step 1

Create a duplicate of your image. Let's say you have a picture of an elephant in the desert. Your goal in Photoshop CS6 is how to remove the background so that you can add a new background to the back of the elephant, but the quick selection tools can affect parts of the elephant itself. Luckily, you have a few other tools at your disposal for handling difficult areas.

Step 2

Use the Lasso Tool ( Lasso) to capture small areas processed by hand. The Lasso Tool follows the mouse, making a selection after you have completely closed the selection path. While this tool is difficult to use for large images, it is a great way to get precise selections.

Zoom in on the image, then use Ctrl/Cmd-click to add small sections or Alt/Opt-click to remove sections:

Step 3

Use " Color Range» ( color range) to remove most of the solid color areas from the background. This tool selects large areas of a similar color, such as grass, the sky, or a wall. But if the image you want to save has a color close to the background, this method won't work.

To use it, you need to do the following:

  • click on " Selection"In the top menu;
  • select " Color Range»;
  • use the eyedropper to choose which color you want to highlight. You can also define specific colors by selecting them from the " Select: by samples».

Step 4

Use the pen tool ( Pen) to make neat, precise selections around objects. Pen tool is the simplest and most powerful selection tool. However, it takes time to master it. Just click around the image to draw dots and the program will connect them. Press and hold the Pen tool in the toolbar and select Free Pen for curved lines from the dropdown list. Once you're done, right-click on the line, and select " Select area».

Hello dear readers!

Photoshop is an interesting thing that everyone should be able to use! I will not explain here what it is and how, I will just give useful lessons in an understandable language.

As many say, I will write for dummies!

For some, Photoshop is a hobby, for others it’s a way to earn money, or just entertainment… And for me, Photoshop is another indispensable tool, without which there is no way for me and my blog!

He helps me make cool unique pictures (I’ll write about this later - I have my own chips there, I advise you to subscribe to my blog. And then suddenly the article comes out, and you don’t know about it ...)

Make various 3D boxes and covers, inscriptions, etc.

Therefore, I gradually began to master this knowledge, and I want to start teaching you too! These will not be another dull and abstruse lessons for professionals - everything will be for dummies in an interesting format (friends, no offense here).

On this occasion, I am creating another section on the blog called "Photoshop Lessons"!

Yes, I have too many sections, and even one is empty - but you don’t look at it! Soon I will correct myself and fill everything with useful articles ...

You just need to subscribe to my blog and wait for them to appear in your email! And your subscriptions are like a beacon in the wilderness, they will motivate me and show me the right path, and then there will be no place for laziness!

Well, we are finishing with such a fabulous introduction and it's time to start the topic of the post ...

In this short article, we will reveal such a little secret: How to remove the background from an image in Photoshop?

Recently, I myself asked myself such a question and was looking for an answer to it ... But now, I do all this in a matter of seconds and even blogger friends ask me for help (I didn’t reveal the secret to them and said that I’d better write an article about this - they will rejoice)

How to remove the background from an image in Photoshop!

But first we need program entitled Photoshop ( more precisely - Adobe Photoshop)…

It doesn't matter what version, but the main thing is that it be! Or you can use Photoshop online by finding it through any search engine - its capabilities are not particularly inferior to those of the installation program!

Opening our Photoshop...

Now we need to add our background removal image: File - Open... (I think the screen is not needed here)

I will use this image as an example I’ll take the blog libraries as well, so as not to load too much):

P.S. But a small note: the picture must be in the format JPG, with formats PNG and gif such a chip will not work ... But if your picture is not in the format jpg, then this is not a reason for frustration - we just need to change the image format!

How to change the image format?

Everything is simple here! You can use for example the program Paint(this is a standard program that is on every computer - or at least should be)

Open the image and just save it in the format we already need ( jpg) without any changes!

With Photoshop, such a feature does not work: it does not want a picture of the format PNG and gif save in jpg

By the way, I am using Adobe Photoshop CS6 Portable… (p.s. I came across a very good version)

After adding the picture, in the window " Layers"double click and in the window that opens, click" OK» ( so we can create a new unblocked layer and subsequently make changes):

Now we need to select the tool called " Magic wand" (works more accurately than " Quick Selection") and use it to click on those parts of the image that we want to delete ... (we clicked with the left mouse button, thereby selecting the area and pressing delete):

After removing the background, you need to save ( File - Save As...). The image must be saved in the format PNG, only then the background will remain transparent!

Basically here is my result:

Maybe I have some errors, but I was just in a hurry - all this can be corrected with more attention! But the main thing is that you catch the very essence ...

Now this picture can be easily placed on any background!

Photoshop lessons - how to remove the background ... The second option!

And here is the second option! To be honest, I don't like it!

Everything remains the same, only we use a different tool, namely the “Pen”. Basically, look at the picture:

I hope the meaning of the picture is clear! We need to select the object with dots until the contour closes ... If you set the point incorrectly, don't worry - you can cancel it (in the tab: Window - History, well, or by right-clicking on it - Delete anchor point)

For convenient marking of points, you can use the magnification of the picture.

When you put down all the points and the contour closes, right-click - Create Selection Well, then look at the picture:

After all these actions, the background will become transparent, all that remains is to save the image in the format PNG.

Why don't I like this option?

  • very long (especially if the picture is not a circle or a square =)
  • the outline of the picture sometimes changes its appearance

And since I don’t like the second option, I decided to record a short video tutorial on the first one only ... In general, we look:

Well, yes, I could not resist and wrote about two ways =)

On the video, the cursor is not visible while working in the program - something is frozen ... But, I think the point is clear! Also, I didn’t add any captions, but the above is a great article, and I’m waiting for you with my questions in the comments!

That's all! Bye everyone!

Good day to all! Today in Photoshop we will remove the background from the picture. Such a need often arises when it is necessary to replace one background with another. You can, for example, take an object from one photo, a background from another, and end up with a different photo in terms of execution. A fairly popular technique, and today we will consider it using the following simple examples.

There are many options for such an operation. All of them depend mainly on whether the background in the picture is homogeneous or not. For example, consider the simplest option, when the background is perfectly white and it needs to be removed. To do this, the program has a wonderful tool - "Magic Eraser".

The essence of his work is that this tool determines adjacent pixels and removes them. The only thing is that the tool works clearly only on the condition that the background is white, and the image is contrasting and clearly separated from the background along the contour. So, load the picture and select the Magic Eraser tool.

Go to the image and click this eraser anywhere on the white background. As a result, the background will disappear.

I repeat once again - the picture must be contoured, otherwise the eraser will remove some white areas on it. But we'll fix it. The top menu opens the settings when you select this tool. By manipulating them, you can smooth out the background to be removed.

Removing the background in Photoshop and making it transparent

Another removal option is to use the Magic Wand tool. It is good to use it already with more heterogeneous backgrounds. But, it also has its own nuances. For example, I took a photo in which I need to remove the background of the sky.

Select the tool "Magic wand", with which we will select the sky. Note that this background is quite heterogeneous. We click anywhere with a wand and observe that not all areas stand out.

If the sky were in the same key, everything would stand out for us. Since our task is to try to remove everything entirely, we will do this, we just have to work a little with our Magic Wand tool. So, first we delete what is highlighted with the Delete key.

Now again click on any area with this tool. If you hold down the Shift key at the same time, you can make several such selections.

Again we delete, and so on until we remove the entire background. When there are fewer areas to be deleted, you can use the Rectangular Marquee tool and select the areas to be deleted.

As a result, we get:

Here the background has already become transparent by default. As a result, you can put any other background under this picture. And if you save it in the format png, you can use it for your creative purposes. The image will be saved with a transparent background.

How to remove text from an image without damaging the background?

One of the important points when working with pictures is the removal of text or inscriptions. You can do this using the Content-Aware Fill feature. Upload a photo and use the lasso tool to select the desired inscription. Select as close to the text as possible.

Now put the cursor inside the selected area and press the right mouse button. In the window that opens, select Fill. In the window that opens, select "Content-Aware". However, this feature is there by default.

Click OK - and the inscription disappeared.

If the fill contrasts sharply with the background, you can use the Healing Brush or Stamp tool to slightly tone the area by selecting adjacent areas for the pattern.

Remove the background from a photo in Photoshop

Another way to remove the background from an image is to select the object itself and remove the background using the inverse selection command. Now you will understand everything. So, upload the photo again and use the Magnetic Lasso tool to select the object.

Now you need to invert this very selection. Go to the menu "Select" and in the tab that opens, select - "Invert". You can do it with hotkeys Shift+Ctrl+I.

As a result, the selection we made earlier is converted from an object selection to a background selection. It remains only to press the Delete key and get the desired result.

If small errors remain during deletion, they are edited (removed with the Eraser tool). Enlarge the image by pressing the Ctrl + keys, and in the right places with the "Eraser" we clean up and smooth out the remaining unnecessary artifacts and pixels.

How to remove green background in photoshop?

The green background, or as it is also called “chroma key”, is used as a background on which you can overlay any background, even animated. This is now used in cinema when creating special effects.

They shoot a person against a green background, and then it turns out that he is hanging over an abyss or flying across the sky. Often there are photos on such a green background that needs to be removed. This is done in the following way. To begin with, the photo is translated into the Lab color space. Image - Mode - Lab

After that, go to the "Channels" tab and select only the "A" channel. I won't talk about channels now. This is a topic for a separate article. Let me just say that Photoshop works with different color spaces and models and the channels are responsible for the color. So, we chose channel "A".

After that, we create a copy of the channel. We press the right mouse button and in the menu that opens, select create a duplicate channel.

Now we contrast the picture: the background is black, and the figure is white. To do this, press the key combination SHIFT + F5. As a result, the fill settings window will open.

Here we choose the color white, and the mode - overlap.

After manipulation, we get the desired option. The background is black, the figure is white.

We repeat everything too, but instead of white, we set black in the settings. Result:

The figure is perfectly white, the background is perfectly black. If this does not work, then you need to repeat it again. Next, go back to the Layers tab and create a copy of the layer we just worked on. And again we return to the channel with which we worked - "A-copy". Next, press the Ctrl key and, while holding down the key, click on the channel thumbnail. As a result, a selection has formed around the figure. Now turn on the Lab channel.

Go to the "Layers" tab. Turn off the bottom layer, and activate the top one - the working one. After that, click on the mask icon at the bottom. The green background is gone.

That's the whole operation. Somewhat long, but the result - the background disappeared. Now save the image in png format. The image is saved with a transparent background. Now you can put any other background under the image. That's all for today, good luck!

In the case when you need to remove part of it from the picture, you should read the article on how to easily remove the background in Photoshop.

Removing the background- this is one of the first serious difficulties that beginners face when working with Photoshop. Here we will look at the main popular and fairly simple ways that will make it possible to remove the background from any photo.

1. Using an eraser

Photoshop has a number of special tools, among which you can find an eraser and a magic eraser. It is available on every version of the program.
This method is perfect when you need to remove the white background in the photo. The eraser is unlikely to accept other fills:
1. Here he is Magic eraser" on the picture:

2. Double click on the white background of the image. And the eraser itself will define all the borders of the main photo and the background. To remove the auxiliary background, click on " Delete". Some versions of Photoshop allow you to do this simply by clicking, after selection, the background will automatically be deleted.

As you probably noticed, the eraser also removed part of the sword, which was white, and also affected the costume. This effect can be removed. You can do it like this:
- open the settings panel (parameters) of the Magic Eraser. Check the "Adjacent Pixels" item. This item must be ticked. The presence of this item will enable the tool to remove and select only sets of pixels that are in contact with each other. That is, elements of the picture will not be so “radically” removed.

- now go to the "Tolerance" parameter in the settings of the same eraser. Its location can be seen in the third figure. The higher the value of the point, the more likely it is that the eraser will remove unwanted background tints. By increasing the parameter, adjust so that not all elements of the object in the picture are selected. If this method, for some reason, did not remove the desired border, go to " Layer". Then click on "Edge Treatment", where activate the item " remove border».

Result:

2. Remove the background with the Magic Wand.

An equally popular way to remove the background in the photo. The Magic Wand element is found in many photo editors. To remove the background, open the desired photo in Photoshop. Wait for all items to load. Select the special item "Quick Selection". In the drop-down list, select one of the tools - "Magic Wand".

The rest of the steps are identical to working with the magic eraser. Just move the mouse over the background part of the image, after which it will be highlighted. Next, remove the background with Backspace.
To unlock the background go to " Layers". Click on the lock to set it to the "Open" position. And then use the tool Magic wand».

If the first method is used to remove the background, then the second is best used to remove the colored parts of the background.

3. Removing the background inside the picture

Not a rare request - how to remove the background inside the picture. This method is quite there, and is suitable for working with BW images or drawings.

After removing the background, in theory, you should get a completely transparent image, with a clearly visible outline of the car. But to do this, you will first need to create a copy of the "blue channel" in the photo. To do this, click Ctrl+L. This is how the Levels window appears. Adjust the sliders so that all grays resemble solid black.

Select the thumbnail of the copy of this channel that was created from the very beginning. While selecting, hold down Ctrl. As a result, the image will be highlighted. Invert it with Shift+Ctrl+L. Now clicking on Backspace, delete the extra layer. A copy of it can be created using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+J. After the background is removed and the texture is set in its place, something like this will turn out:

4. Adding a background to the picture

Most often, background removal is done in order to replace the color, texture of the background of the photo. Consider a way to replace the background of an image that you have removed the back layer from.

Add any texture to this drawing project:

This lesson will be useful for those who are going to do collages or the “art” of photomontage that is fashionable in our modern world, and, of course, for those who need to cut out some kind of picture, for example, for their future logo. After this tutorial, you should have no difficulty and you will be up to the task in minutes, even when working with a complex multi-colored background.

Step 1: Selection

Depending on the complexity of the background that you need to remove, we will select either the desired object or the hated background.

If your background is monotonous, as in our case, then it is much easier to select it, isn't it? To do this, select the tool “Magic wand” (Magic tool) and click on the background. If everything does not stand out at once, then do not lose heart and, holding SHIFT on your keyboard, click with a magic wand in the remaining areas of the background.

If you have a diverse background, as in a photograph, or if you need to pull an object out of another collage, then you will have to work hard to select the object itself. Various lasso and "Quick selection" ("Lasso tool" etc + "Quick selection tool") will come to your aid.

Rice. 1. In the image, all the selection tools you may need are highlighted in red

Step 2: Remove the Background

In other lessons you will be asked to create a copy of the layer and delete the background layer (the one with the lock), but not for nothing that we devoted the last lesson to learning about tools! So the Background eraser tool will come to the rescue. We choose a larger eraser and carefully remove the entire background, not being afraid to hook the element of the picture / photo we need. On this, in theory, everything ends, but look at the addition.

Rice. 2. Using the "background eraser" remove the background

Step 3: Addition, step optional

It happens so that at a glance it seems to you that you have erased everything. But no matter how: different pieces of the background are hiding and waiting for you to interfere. To avoid this, we recommend that you create a background layer with a fill that contrasts with the background you are deleting, so you can see all the bits that you couldn't erase the first time and get rid of them once and for all.

Rice. 3. Create a "fill layer"

Fig 4. After creating the fill layer, we will see the areas that were not erased with the eraser and we can easily remove them

P.S. In the "Addition" you can already use any eraser, just first select the layer you need, since the fill layer, after its creation, will be selected by default. After you have erased everything you need, feel free to delete the fill layer.
