Connector(in the informal terminology of Microsoft Exchange Server) - a configured connection between mail servers in different routing groups or mail systems.

Connectors differ in types:

  • The SMTP connector is one of the most commonly used connectors for communicating with "external" mail servers. The standard X.400 mail transfer protocol is used for the interaction of servers within the local network and for the interaction of servers from different routing groups of the same mail system.
  • Route connector (eng. Routing Group Connector, in the official Microsoft terminology "routing group connector") - is used exclusively for connecting routing groups, cannot be used to communicate with external servers.

SMTP and X.400 connectors are unidirectional (i.e. a connection is initiated by one server against another server), although an SMTP connector using the TURN command can be used for postbacks in cases of complex configuration that does not allow configuring an opposite connector.

The word "connector" is a slang transliteration of the original word "connector", used by some experts instead of the word "connector", which is currently the official Microsoft term for Russian-language programs and documents, and is allowed only in conversations of specialists with each other. When installing LED backlighting, as well as additional elements and accessories, they are used. What is a connector?

A connector is a small connecting piece, usually rectangular in shape, that has the necessary pins to carry a signal. Such a connector is capable of transmitting a signal between two devices or led strip.

According to the type of application from the network, the connecting connectors are divided into:

  • connector for a 220V network;
  • connector for a 12V network.

This classification makes it possible to understand that connectors for 220V devices and tapes are more protected and sealed, since in use, safety is above all. 12V connectors consist of components that are capable of transmitting a voltage of 12V.

Often, when installing a 12V LED strip, many questions arise. Which is better for mounting solder or connectors? How to choose connectors? One of the problem areas when installing led tape is the connection of the segments and the connection to the power supply or control device. These connections can be made by soldering or connecting elements.

To solder the necessary elements to the LED strip, you first need to learn how to hold a soldering iron in your hands. When soldering, it is very important not to overheat the tape. This process will take a lot of time and painstaking micro work. Given these aspects, this option will not work for most users. The most convenient and fastest solution will be.

For 12V LED strips, one aspect is to form them into bobbins, generally 5 meters long. Typically, this length is not long enough or too long to create an LED lighting circuit. To connect sections of the required length, connections are used using a connector. When using this connection, it is enough to insert the end of the tape with contact pads. Using the clamping mechanism, snap the tape with the plastic clip.

In order to select the required connector, it is necessary to distinguish between them by the type of construction and the principle of application:

  • hard connection type;
  • bendable connectors (flexible);
  • corner connectors.

Rigid connectors are designed to connect two or more sections of tape to each other. They are mainly used in straight sections where there is a need for a visually invisible connection.

Flexible connectors are a device with clips (connectors) on the edges of the wires. Such connections are more versatile, and with the help of them it is possible to bend the LED strip in different directions and at different angles. Also, such connectors are used to bypass interior elements that do not need lighting.

Corner joints allow installation of led strip at an angle of 90 °. They preferably have a rigid base, which allows the LED strip to be securely attached.

In order to install the LED strip, you do not need a lot of tools. All you need is the selected tape, scissors and the necessary connectors. The tape has cut lines that repeat every three LEDs. First you need to measure and cut to the desired length. At the end, there will be contact pads, which must be inserted into the connector so that its contacts coincide with the contacts of the tape. After that, make connections by holding the LED strip in the connector.

Depending on the choice of led strips, the connectors are classified as follows:

  • Connector for SMD3528 strips. It is used exclusively for belts of this type, which are 8 mm wide. These connectors have two pins.
  • Connector for SMD5050 strips. Designed for connection to monochromatic SMD5050 tapes, which are 10 mm wide. These connectors have two pins.
  • Connector for RGB SMD5050 strips. Its difference is the presence of four contactors and a tape width of 10 mm.

RJ-45 RJ-11 is a standardized letter designation under which plugs and sockets for connecting network devices are issued. RJ stands for Registered Jack and translates as a standard network interface. Similar standards were created and patented by Bell Labs over 52 years ago. It was during that period that the need arose to unify the connectors used and to simplify the connection of various equipment.

The American communications agency became interested in Bell Labs developments, as a result of which the company was able to massively distribute its devices. As a result, plugs and sockets under the standard designation RJ-11 began to be actively used in telephone networks. They are used for two-wire telephone devices. RJ-45 are also used to create local area networks.

Kinds

RJ connectors are used with twisted pair and telephone cables:

  1. RJ 45- with power cables - 8 positions and 8 contacts.
  2. RJ 11- with telephone cables - 4 positions and 4 contacts.


By the shape of the cable to be connected:

  • Round: universal, solid and stranded.
  • Flat design: solid and versatile.

Computer connectors are classified by category. They are selected depending on the distance of the cable through which the data is transmitted, without distortion, including the data transfer rate.

For equipment in everyday life and offices, the following types of connectors are usually used:

  • - are used to create 100BASE-TX networks for speeds of about 100 Mbit per second in a frequency band of 125 MHz;

  • - represent a more modern version, which transmits information over two pairs at once at a speed of about 100 Mbit per second. When transmitting over four pairs, the speed is 1000 Mbps;

  • - are used to create networks like "Fast Ethernet" or "Gigabit Ethernet". Such devices are capable of transmitting information up to 1000 Mbps.


RJ-45 RJ-11 connectors, depending on the type of installation, are divided into:

  • External... Used when it is necessary to place the device on a wall surface. This appliance has a connector that has blade contacts. When the wire is pressed into them, the insulation is broken down to the core. As a result, installation can be done quickly and easily.

  • Internal... In most cases, such products are installed in an installation box with a recessed wall. The connector here can be easily removed for installation. After installation, the socket is clamped with a plastic screw. To ensure long service life, RJ-45 RJ-11 enclosures are manufactured from durable UV-resistant technopolymers.


Connectors can also be of the following types:

  • Optical connectors that are used to connect optical fiber cables.
  • Coaxial connectors that are used to connect coaxial wires.

RJ-45 RJ-11. Device

The body of the RJ connector is made of plastic; inside it there are knives-contacts, which are coated, most often gold. In computer networks, where a twisted pair of 4 wires is used, the RJ-45 connector is used. It is marked with the designation "8p8c". The number of pins in this connector depends on the type of cable used. Shielded connectors are used to connect a shielded cable. In the latter, the casing is made of metal; it is connected directly to the cable shield. Shielded connectors are only used with shielded equipment.

Most telephone systems use RJ-11 connectors. The number of cores in the specified products is only 4. For this reason, it is impossible to use a telephone socket as a computer socket.

The connector is obtained by injection molding, single contacts are pressed into it. During their production, removable or integral components are also provided that are necessary to obtain the required electrical characteristics, including the mechanical strength of attachment to cable products. The plug contacts are designed so that it is easy to install a rigid installation or flexible stranded cable in them.

Operating principle

The RJ-45 RJ-11 components are designed in a push-and-pull fashion, with one end with a socket and the other with a plug. The plug is fixed in the socket with a latch located on the side opposite to the contact mounting surface. The plug is installed on the cable using a crimping tool specially designed for this operation.

Installation of RJ-45 is performed by crimping, in which metal wires are pressed into the wire with pointed ends, thereby ensuring contact tightness. Anyone can crimp, even one who has no experience. The pinout is carried out in accordance with the colors of the wires. For twisted-pair connections, it is necessary to carefully observe the color combinations corresponding to a specific number on the cord.

However, to transmit data over a distance of more than one hundred meters, the use of amplifiers will be required. RJ-11 in most cases is used to connect landline telephones or faxes. The design of the connectors has six contact positions, but RJ-11 takes up only 4 positions, while RJ-12 takes up 6 contacts.

RJ 45 in most cases is used to organize local and computer networks. Its design has 8 contact blades. The pairs of wires in RJ 45 are twisted together so that possible interference acts equally on the cable. The cheapness and ease of installation of RJ 45 products ensured the prevalence and popularity of this standard. Today, using this method, most local networks around the world are organized.

Depending on the purpose of the building, RJ-45 RJ-11 can be used in the following typical premises:

How to choose

  • RJ-45 RJ-11 sockets and connectors are made according to a single standard. Therefore, structurally, they have a common base and are made of similar materials. Naturally, the quality of these materials may vary. It all depends on the specific manufacturer. The same affects the price of the products. That is, you can significantly overpay for the brand, but you can also purchase sockets and plugs that will not be inferior in quality to the brand ones, but will be much cheaper at a price. Here everyone decides for himself what is better to choose.
  • According to the number of connectors, sockets can be single, double or terminal for 4-9 connectors. In addition, there are certain types of combined products. Such modules even have additional types of interfaces, for example, HDMI or USB. However, a single connector is enough to connect one computer or phone. Terminal devices are often used for office spaces where there are many computers and telephones.
  • For home and even office use, devices that transmit data at speeds of up to 100 Mbit per second are quite enough. Such products have category 3. Category 5e has a speed of about 1000 Mbps. For category 6, 10 Gbps is available, but the cable should not exceed 55 meters in length.
  • It is worth choosing according to the principle of fastening. Overhead and internal products are provided for computer cabling. On the inner socket, the contacts go deeper into the wall, on the outer products, the contacts are located on the surface of the wall. For a hidden socket, a protective "casing" made of plastic must be provided, where the terminal block is fixed. The external socket is wall-mounted using a cover plate.
  • It is best to buy products for concealed installation. Upon completion of the work, such devices look more beautiful, they will not spoil the interior design. At the same time, you should be aware that for their installation it will be necessary to violate the integrity of the wall. Therefore, these outlets are best purchased prior to repair. Computer networks (4-wire twisted pair) use a standard RJ-45 connector labeled "8p8c" (8 Position, 8 Contacts). The contacts of an RJ-45 connector differ depending on the type of cable with which they are used (single-core or multicore), but there are also universal connectors. For terminating a shielded cable, shielded connectors are used, which differ in the presence of a metal casing that connects to the shield of the cable itself, and are used only with shielded equipment (sockets, patch panels, etc.). In telephony systems, RJ-11 or RJ-12 connectors are usually used, since the number of wires in a telephone cable does not exceed 6.

Like twisted pair, the rj-45 connector must have the appropriate category: 5e, 6, 6a

RJ 11, RJ 12 connectors are designed for telephone wires, and the main difference between RJ 11 and RJ 12 is the number of pins. These two types of connectors have 6 positions for contacts, but these positions can be occupied by 2, 4 and 6 contacts - so in RJ 11 connectors there are up to 4 contacts, and in RJ 12 up to 6 contacts.

2) Coaxial connectors - BNC connectors

They consist of an insulated center conductor separated by a dielectric from the outer conductive layer. Connectors, depending on the class, can be plated with copper, gold, nickel or silver. According to the connection method, coaxial connectors are divided into threaded, bayonet and cut-in connectors. Today there are a large number of types of coaxial connectors, but the most popular is the BNC connector, which serves to connect a thin coaxial cable.

3) Optical connectors

These connectors are designed for termination of optical cables with a diameter of 1.8, 2 and 3 mm, as well as optical fiber in a buffer coating with a diameter of 0.9 mm. A distinction is made between multimode (MM), singlemode (SM), and singlemode beveled end (APC) connectors. As a rule, these connectors are equipped with shanks of different colors. Depending on the purpose of a particular connector, the following types of connectors can be distinguished:

FC connectors are intended mainly for use in single-mode long-distance communication lines, specialized systems and cable television networks. Note the undoubted advantages of this type of connectors: FC connectors are resistant to vibrations and shocks, which allows them to be used on appropriate networks, for example, directly on moving objects, as well as on structures located near railways.

ST connectors are widely used in optical LAN subsystems.

ST connectors are simple and reliable in operation, easy to install, relatively inexpensive. However, the simplicity of the design also has negative aspects: these connectors are sensitive to sudden forces applied to the cable, as well as to significant vibration and shock loads, because the tip is a single unit with a body and a shank. This disadvantage limits the use of this type of connectors on moving objects. But despite this, ST connectors are actively used, which led to the search for options for improving the quality indicators of such connectors. Thus, as the development progressed, SPS and UPS versions of this type of connector appeared.

When using connectors of the FC and ST types, the need for a rotational movement when connecting to the adapter causes some inconvenience. This prevents an increase in the density of the front panel mounting, and to avoid this, connectors of the SC type have been developed.
