The computer itself freezes. The computer freezes tightly - cleaning and optimizing Windows

Over time, Windows becomes slower and many are wondering "why does the Windows 7 computer freeze?"
This is primarily due to the accumulation of various files in the system, including unnecessary ones. But sometimes something more serious can be the cause of the freeze.

System problems

Consider the reasons that are associated with the malfunctioning of the system or its individual elements. It is worth noting that the solution and screenshots are presented using the example of Windows 10, but they are also suitable for other OS versions.

Overloaded autoload

The problem is especially true for older PCs that have poor performance. When Windows starts, startup programs automatically start almost simultaneously and load the computer a lot. Further elimination of the problem is shown using the example of Windows 10, but it is also suitable for other versions of the OS.

To solve the problem:

Clogged system

This happens if the system has not been reinstalled on your computer or laptop for a long time. Residual files and junk accumulate and clog the OS.

You can solve this problem using the CCleaner program.

After these steps, the system will run faster.

Viruses and firewall

Everyone knows that viruses harm the system and can slow it down or damage important files.

To check the system:

But the problem may be not only in the virus itself, but also in the firewall. This is a technology that prevents malicious actions from the network to the PC.

The standard Windows firewall can significantly slow down the system, working simultaneously with the installed antivirus.
To disable it:

Important! Disable firewall only if you have antivirus installed.

Driver incompatibility

This primarily applies to laptops. After updating the system, drivers often become irrelevant. This leads to unstable operation of individual components, for example, a video card or a chipset. Accordingly, the work of the entire system also slows down.

To update drivers:

Attention! Driver problems often manifest as high CPU utilization. (You can check it in the task manager)

System files error

When the OS crashes, the system files suffer. This leads to errors in the system, registry and disk. To fix the problem:

  1. Download CCleaner from the site and install.
  2. Run the program.
  3. Open the "Registry" tab and run a search for problems.
  4. When finished, click "Fix Selected".
  5. Close the program and go to Explorer.
  6. Select the system drive by clicking the PMK on it and open "Properties".
  7. "Service" → "Check", and when finished, click "Optimize".
  8. Restart your computer or laptop.

In case of a large number of errors, it is better to completely reinstall the OS.

Iron problems

If the fixes of the system problems did not help, then this indicates more serious problems.

Important! Only a master can handle a full check of computer components, all actions you do at your own peril and risk.

Let's take a look at what problems there are with components.

HDD

The main reason for freezing is almost always the HDD. This is a very fragile element that can be damaged even by a slight fall. The primary signs can be determined by yourself.

  1. If you hear a crackling, intermittent bangs, knocking, then this indicates a malfunction of the disk device.
  2. The problem disk gives itself out by the fact that when it hangs, the indicator light on the system unit is constantly on, indicating the HDD.

In such cases, it is necessary to replace the device or give it to the master for repair.

Almost nobody pays attention to it, but it is also one of the most popular freezing problems. This is due to the fact that over time, the power supply depletes its resource. As a result, it is unable to maintain its declared power, and the voltage on the power lines does not meet standards.

The processor and other components are not getting enough power, resulting in unstable performance. Replacing the old block in such cases can fix the problem with system freezes.

Random access memory (RAM)

Braking can be associated with a lack of RAM, or in cases of its malfunction.

The problem can be identified by the following signs:

  1. Hangs on copy and paste operations.
  2. Freezes when moving files, especially large ones.

In such cases, you can try to check the system by inserting RAM from another PC or laptop.

Processor (CPU)

This problem is associated primarily with overheating of the processor or insufficient power supply. During large overloads, the temperature rises and causes deceleration or shutdown of the PC.

Important! Every six months, you need to clean the components from dust and replace the thermal paste - this prevents overheating. In the article "Free your computer from the brakes: diagnostics of resources, mechanical cleaning, optimization of Windows 10" there is a detailed instruction.

Advice! Study the instructions for your processor to find out which temperature is considered optimal.

Computer freezes? Complaining about new PCs working? No wonder, because both the system and the programs start instantly. However, over time, they begin to notice that the system is working more slowly and intermittently. In the end, the computer freezes altogether. There are a lot of reasons for this, but we have identified 9 common ones.

The computer freezes and slows down in the following cases.

The disease of the 21st century is viruses and trojans.

In addition to the fact that spyware and viruses pose a significant threat to the security of the system, they can also seriously reduce the performance of your computer and, in some cases, cause the computer to freeze. The first stage in the battle with such programs is to scan the system using the latest versions of anti-spyware and antivirus software.

These applications help detect and remove malware on your computer. If software scanners do not help in killing spyware, try the following:

  • Find suspicious processes and terminate them using the Windows Task Manager.
  • Find suspicious processes and terminate them using the Computer Management console.
  • Find suspicious processes, startup items and terminate them using the System Configuration utility (Msconfig.exe).
  • Find and remove registry entries associated with suspicious processes and startup items.
  • Find and remove suspicious files.
  • Install and use several spyware detection and removal programs.

Note: If the above methods do not work, please start Windows in Safe Mode and try again. The virus removal algorithm depends on the type of virus program.

PS: If my computer freezes, the first thing I do is run an anti-virus scan or look for updates for the anti-virus.

Modern processors generate a lot of heat. Therefore, their operation requires a cooling element, usually a cooler. Machines used for gaming and other CPU-intensive activities are often fitted with dedicated water-cooled or refrigerant-based systems.

If the maximum permissible temperature of the processor is exceeded, the system starts to work slowly or intermittently, and as a result computer freezes.

Modern motherboards have built-in technology to monitor the temperature of the processor, the reports of which can be viewed in the BIOS.
A fan stop on a CPU cooler can be caused by several reasons:

  • A large amount of dust prevents the fan from rotating properly.
  • The fan motor has failed.
  • Due to bearing wear, the fan began to "shake".

You can determine if there is a problem with the cooler by listening and / or touching the computer. A fan with loose bearings will shake and shake the case. At the same time, a characteristic noise is emitted if you listen well.

However, this noise is often overlooked even by experienced users. But over time, sounds and tremors become too noticeable, and the only solution that comes to the user's mind is to replace the cooler.
However, replacing the fan is not always necessary. If it is dust, it is enough to remove it with compressed air. But keep in mind that even if you manage to start the fan again, under excessive load, its lifespan will rapidly decrease.

Therefore, in case of a cooler failure, it is advisable to buy another one in reserve.
There are many utilities for monitoring the temperature of the processor and its case that will help you avoid freezing your computer.

The computer freezes due to a problem with the RAM.

Memory problems can cause the computer to freeze due to the following:

RAM processes are synchronizing slower than expected.
The RAM module has minor defects that can only be detected during a full test.
The RAM module has overheated.

During the reign of FRM RAM, buying RAM was pretty straightforward. It was enough to know what speed the motherboard can support and the maximum memory size for each slot.

There are different types of RAM these days, running at different speeds. Advanced motherboards keep memory running at below maximum speeds.

For example, some boards support ECC RAM, but they can work with a different type of memory, or they can support both types of DIMM memory: PC2700 and PC3200. Please note that in this case, you will probably have to change the settings of the corresponding BIOS parameters, and this may also decrease the performance indicators.

Small defects in RAM modules can lead to unstable and slow system operation. Low-cost chips often have disadvantages that can lead to malfunctions and intermittent blue screens.

Despite the fact that the built-in mechanisms are capable of ensuring the system's operating time, defects in RAM modules inevitably lead to a decrease in performance and in some cases lead to a freeze of the computer.
Previously, there was no problem of overheating of RAM chips, since they did not generate much heat, but this has changed with the advent of new types of memory, in particular SDRAM. To check if the chip has overheated, turn off the PC, open the computer system unit, unplug the power cord and touch the plastic on the chip.

If it turns out to be too hot, you should purchase a separate cooler to blow the memory module. If there is no slot for such a cooler on the motherboard, you can use a fan card inserted into the PCI slot.

You can also buy "heatsinks" - special cooling kits for RAM modules (RAM heatsink) that improve heat dissipation and reduce the risk of overheating.
Note: some motherboards allow mixing speeds, but by default they run on the slowest memory module installed.

There are several signs of the imminent death of the hard drive, depending on the type of malfunction (mechanical, electronic, logical or software and hardware), it can be:

  • Slow disk access speed.
  • Increasing number of bad sectors when running scan and check disk utilities (scandisk / chkdsk).
  • Unexplained Blue Screen Appearances.
  • Intermittent crashes during the download process.

It can be difficult to spot hard drive problems because the early signs may not be very noticeable. Experienced professionals will recognize them by changing the sound of the disk rotation (you can hear clicks, crackles or high-pitched squeaks). Further damage to the hard drive can lead to system failure.

The writing process is very slow, as the system takes time to find uncorrupted blocks (this happens if the disk has a reliable NTFS file system, it is likely that a blue screen will appear on disks with other file systems).

The message "Windows delayed write failure" may appear on Windows computers.
If your system is slower than usual, run a scan or check disk utility (scandisk or chkdsk), depending on the platform installed on your computer.

Detection of a damaged sector in the place where it was previously in good condition signals a problem in the hard drive. Make a backup copy of the contents of the disk and get ready to send it to the forefathers.

It is better to buy a spare hard drive in advance and replace it after the first drive fails or immediately after the first signs of malfunction are detected.
Disk noise and disk check / scan reports are the best indicators of hard drive failures leading to system damage.

One of the often overlooked reasons for system slowness is incorrect BIOS settings. Most users leave the default settings unchanged by the developers.

However, if the BIOS settings do not match the optimal configuration for a given machine, the system will run significantly slower. You can improve the performance of your computer by identifying the optimal BIOS values, which may differ from the factory settings.
There is no central database of optimal BIOS settings, but you can find them by searching for “motherboard BIOS name”. Another way to increase the performance of your computer is to "flash" the BIOS.

To do this, you need to get the appropriate software and instructions (they can be provided by the manufacturer of the motherboard).

Let's assume that a recently purchased UDMA-100 drive is no faster than the rest of the installed hard drives. The performance test reports of all drives give identical results. What's the matter?
Perhaps the motherboard does not support the additional features of the UDMA 100. Check the documentation for what type of IDE interface it can work with.

If the motherboard only supports UDMA 33 or 66, the performance of the UDMA 100 drive will be degraded to ensure compatibility. You can solve this problem by purchasing an expansion board for this hard drive.
Another reason could be the type of cable used. UDMA 66 and later require a different type of cable to function. They may simply not start with an outdated cable.

Old wires break down over time, especially if they are too tightly folded and the temperature inside the case is constantly high. It is a good idea to replace the cable from time to time and see if the performance has improved.
You should also take into account the fact that every 12-18 months there are cardinal changes in the technologies of developing hard drives, contributing to a sharp increase in their capacity and speed.

Therefore, replacing old hard drives, even if they are completely serviceable, improves computer performance. Newer Serial ATA (SATA) drives are much faster than older Parallel ATA drives.

Most Windows services are enabled by default. Many of them are not required for normal system operation. You should find out what services are running on your Windows XP / Windows 2000 PC and disable those that are not needed.

To determine which services are running, open the Services applet from the Administrative Tools menu. To do this, click on the My Computer shortcut and select Manage from the context menu.

The information presented in the Services console has, among other parameters, Name, Status, and Startup Type. More detailed information on a particular service can be obtained by double-clicking on the corresponding item in the list to open the service properties window.

You can stop the service by clicking the Stop service button. If you are sure that the service is not needed, in its properties window, expand the list of values for the Startup Type option and select Disabled. If unsure, select Manual. In this case, you can start the service yourself when needed.

The list of running services is also displayed in the msconfig utility window. Open the Run dialog box and enter msconfig in the text line. The Base column lists the services that Microsoft considers essential for the computer to function.

However, not all required services are displayed in the System Configuration utility. To cancel the start of the service at system startup, uncheck the box to the left of it.

The Indexing Service is known to slow down Windows 2000 / Windows XP. It registers the contents of each disk in order to provide a faster corresponding system utility (Search). If you do not have a site that requires this service, disable it.

Runaway processes require all processor cycles to run. The usual causes are incorrect drive letters and outdated software installed on a new operating system.

You can determine the presence of such processes by looking at the Task Manager list. Processes that use almost 100% of the CPU cycles are most likely out of control.

There is an exception. On a well-performing system, the System Idle process will often consume most of the CPU cycles. Any other process consuming 98% of the CPU cycles is out of control.

If such a process is found, right-click on it and select End Process. Unmonitored system services can be stopped using the Services console. If the console doesn't help, try restarting your system.

You can use the following software to manage Windows processes:
ProcessScanner 1.1 - System Process Scanner
Process Explorer for Windows 11.04
PC Wizard 2008.1.84 - complete information about the system.

Due to the constant addition, removal and replacement of files, their contents may be divided between sectors from different areas of the disk. This process is called fragmentation. Older operating systems, such as Windows NT, did not have built-in defragmentation utilities.

If such a system is installed on your PC, use a third-party program such as Background Optimizer.

Fragmentation of the hard disk can significantly affect the speed of the system, because the heads of the hard drive have to constantly move back and forth in search of scattered fragments of the file.

A common reason for this is disk overcrowding, so it is advisable to always save 20-25% of free space to minimize fragmentation and improve the performance of the defrag utility. If the disk is full, delete some of the files and restart the defragmenter.

The defrag.exe command-line utility is available in Windows XP to schedule defragmentation. On Windows 2000, the AutoDefrag program.

What to do if the computer is frozen? It often happens to me that without waiting for the download of one program, I begin to move on to another. And my computer naturally just starts to ignore all my actions, only that it doesn’t send it to hell, but if I were in its place, it would definitely send ...

It's stupid, of course, but sometimes I soak it off, either because I think about it and do everything fully automatically, without looking at the screen, or in a very hurry to view some information. How many I say to myself: - "Do not rush!". No, all the same, every time I "step on the same rake", and every time I get a dead computer. The most interesting thing is that in my life everything is the other way around - I think for a long time, but do it quickly.

The computer is frozen

I know that such freezes of programs occur not only for me, so I decided to write a short article on how to get out of this situation. Those who are with a computer on YOU do not have to waste time and read. This is not news to you. I am writing for those who have been working on a computer recently.

And so, the computer froze tightly. What can be done in such a situation? The most important thing is not to panic or bang your head against the wall, much less hit the computer. Will not help!

I have noticed more than once that when I freak out and swear, my computer, like a frightened dog, completely becomes unusable. So, this method will obviously not work for us.

Now calm down and approach the situation from the other side. Once the computer is frozen, it means that you are not in the mood to work with it, or some other job awaits you.

Well, if you have nothing to do, and you are still in a good mood, then so be it, I will reveal to you the secret of how to get your computer out of the stupor, especially since now on the new processor units there is no longer a button for rebooting the system.

Yes, and it is not advisable to bring the computer to life in this way. This is the same as giving you something heavy in the head, and after you come to your senses make you dance.

Three magic keys

Press three magic buttons on the keyboard at the same time Ctrl + Alt + Del... This window will open for you: Task ManagerWindows .

In the tab Applications You will see all open windows of programs on your computer. If the column State, opposite the program there is an inscription Does not answer(I wrote it specially in red), then it was this program that hung.

In this case, highlight this entry and press the button Remove task ... It doesn't always work right away, so you have to wait. If everything is fine with your computer, and the matter is only in the freezing of the program, then this method will help. But if you have your computer, and every time on different programs, then this is more serious.

In the same Task Manager, you can view all running processes on your computer. To do this, go to the tab Processes .

Here you can see which programs load and consume the most RAM. As you can see, there are so many processes going on that we don't even know about. I have Chrome browsers open. Here they are most of all now and take away memory.

On this tab, you can disable those processes that you think are unnecessary. To do this, select the required line and press the button End the process ... Just do not overdo it, without some processes the computer cannot work.

Now if your computer freezes up tightly. You can bring him out of this state yourself.

Good afternoon, Mikhail! The firmware of the Lenovo A319 smartphone is shown on YouTube. Type in the search phrase "lenovo a319 smartphone firmware". Under each video there are links to programs and sites on this topic. Good luck!

Precious Lyudmila, Thank you very much! I still booted from the disk. I just scatter in all sorts of thanks to your Address! May God give you Health! All the best, the most refined, the most beautiful I wish you! You are the smartest, wisest person! I would also like to know from you, if possible, my lenovo a319 smartphone is frozen, how to flash it through a computer, I downloaded something on the Internet, but it works incomprehensibly, something is installed, but something is not, maybe you have some links to good programs and what the sequence of actions should be. Thank you so much for all your wise advice!

Michael! I understand how difficult it is when you don't know anything. But judging by the fact that you are not backing down, you will succeed! The good news is that you are asking the right questions. I at least understand what you want and can give you the right direction.
It is enough to look at its version at the entrance to the BIOS and type the following phrase in any Internet search: for example (bios Award BIOS version 4.51 PG). Or it is even better to look at its version in the passport for the motherboard. If there is no passport, then find out the name of your motherboard. (see), then type its name in an Internet search and find the BIOS version in its characteristics.
If you cannot find out the version of your BIOS in this way, then type in the search the phrase "setting up bios in pictures step by step instructions", and see the articles with a description. There you will most likely find something similar to yours. There are also such videos on YouTube, the main thing is to make the correct request like "BIOS setup".

Thank you very much for your advice! Please write what you need to know more about the BIOS and parameters or other questions, I'm really looking forward to it. Sorry to bother you. All the best to you!

Dear Lyudmila, I went into the BIOS and then into the boot, there are many parameters, I selected CD / DVD ... and it was at the top, and next to it was a window with the inscription "AHCI P4: ATAPI ihas122 f" and "disabled", I selected all the options and I pressed f10, and I bought a disk in a store - a multi-system boot disk. In the BIOS, the following parameters are Main, oc tweaker, advanced, tool, h / w monitor, boot, security, exit, Each of them has a lot of sub-parameters and everywhere you need that to choose something, but I don't know what, but in other videos they went to exit and advanced and chose something. On the topic - how to enter the BIOS, asrok "- no video. Respectfully to you! Misha.

Then I have a few questions for you.
    1. When you exited the BIOS, did you save the settings with the F10 key? It is necessary to select the item CD / DVD ROM DRive BBS priorities and use the plus key (on the keyboard) to raise this entry to the very top. in the Boot settings. Then, before exiting, save all this with the F10 key. Unfortunately, without seeing your BIOS and not knowing its version, I cannot give exact instructions.
    2. Do you have a bootable disk or just copied and burned Windows 10 onto it?
    3. This disc may not be read by your CD-ROM. It happens.

Thank you so much for your Help! I was able to enter the BIOS, already something. May God give you Health and All the Best! With respect to you! Misha

Hello Lyudmila! Help please, I was able to enter the BIOS, there are many different settings, I do not know how to configure them, I went into the boot and pressed CD / DVD ROM DRive BBS priorities, and inserted cd from Windows 10, I thought it would reboot quickly, but it didn’t work. I need something else, but I don’t know. Help Please! Motherboard-ASRock H61M-VG3. With respect and gratitude to you! Misha.

Good afternoon, Mikhail! If you have never done this, then it is better to ask someone to help you in this matter. There are many videos on the YouTube video channel on how to do this correctly. Follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yROHYyyMyRQ and watch the tutorials on installing Windows. If something is not clear, then ask - I will help.

Hello, Lyudmila. I wrote to you on 02/02/2017 that the comp. freezes, and you answered that you need to demolish the system and install a new one, but how to do it, I don’t know. Please tell me. With respect to you! Mikhail.

Mikhail, if you have something valuable on your computer, it’s better to show it to a good master, and if not, then demolish the system and install a new one, because there is a possibility that the computer is infected, and besides, with such a virus that will finish off your computer anyway. And my advice to you: do not install programs from unknown sources, and a lot at once. Read the comments on the site with the program, and if they are disabled, then this should alert. There will be questions, come in, ask. I will always help as much as I can.

Good afternoon, Mikhail! Unfortunately, this often happens. The programs may be useful, but it can be seen that in addition to them a virus has also got into, or some of the programs does not fit your system. I am afraid that in your case you cannot do without a specialist. If the computer even turned on normally, then I could still do something to help.

Hello Lyudmila! Forgive me Please! I forgot to Thank you for your Answer! THANKS! I work in church, sing in the choir. I constantly need a computer at work - print notes, listen to music, analyze performance manners, read vocal literature, prayers, etc. .And apply this knowledge at work. I ask you! Please help me in any way you can. Thank you! With respect to you! Mikhail.

Hello Lyudmila! The computer froze after I installed some programs from the Internet, it was written that very useful programs. The fan is working, the computer was bought on 08/01/2015, assembled by individual order, inside the system. I did not clean the block, Windows10 was licensed, the programmer installed in the store. Intel G530 processor, Asrok H61M-VG3 motherboard, DDR3 2gb PC-1600Mhz Kingston RAM, onboard video card, dvd-rom DVDRW LG, Toshiba 500gb sata 3.C hard disk Respect for you, Mikhail.

Good afternoon, Mikhail! After which your computer started to boot in this way? Maybe you changed some settings, installed drivers, games, programs? Were there any voltage surges in the electrical network? Is the PSU fan working? How old is the computer, and when was the last time you cleaned it inside the system unit? Do you have licensed Windows 10 and who installed it? It would be nice to know at least some parameters of your computer. Please answer these questions in order to have at least some idea of your system.

Hello! Help please! The computer writes "preparation of automatic recovery, computer diagnostics" in a new window "automatic recovery, the computer is not started correctly, restart, additional parameters" and it freezes, the mouse does not work, you cannot select - restart or additional parameters. Michael. Please describe in more detail what to do.

Well, thank God! By the way, I have now experienced an almost similar situation. I installed one program and spent three and a half hours restoring my system (also Windows 8.1).

Yes, I tried Ctrl + Alt + Delete, the computer didn't respond and also Ctrl + Shift + Esc didn't respond either. I had to forcibly restart my computer, I just went to Avast, everything works. I will reinstall Windows soon (from a USB stick), so everything is fine. I am writing this message from a computer. Oh yes, hello!

Sadly! Most likely your system did not like Avast. It's like with medications, it helps everyone, but one has a coma. Have you tried pressing the three cherished keys Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and End task? If it does not help, then try to roll back the system to the time when Avast was not installed yet. But this will only work if you created a restore point. If the system is licensed and has not changed after purchasing a computer, then there should be restore points. If you have a system disk with your operating system, then you can try to recover using it.

My computer worked well for two years, did not freeze, and never had errors (!). But I haven't had an antivirus for these two years. I decided to install Avast antivirus (in vain)! Once installed, it updated and asked to restart the computer, I agreed. During the restart, the computer gave out something like, Save your data and then reboot, google drive shuts down, wait. There were two buttons: Restart anyway and wait. I wait, but the message does not disappear for 5 minutes, I could not resist and pressed restart anyway. This has never happened before! After rebooting, I went into Avast and decided to test a new feature called Avast Safe Zones. When I turn on this function full screen postcards from which this application and the taskbar disappeared. But the current time and date was written on the bottom right. I wanted to click there, we accidentally clicked a button: add a new application to bookmarks. and the computer froze. Although the mouse worked. The delete did not react to control alt and did not respond to control shift. Did not respond to the cross and collapse buttons. And he did not even react to the button to turn on the computer. Rather, it does not react. I'm already waiting for a few minutes, about 20 minutes, probably. Now I'm waiting for the computer to hang up. I very much regret that I installed Avast. Why ask? And without antivirus, I had a good life! I typed in a search engine what to do if the computer froze. And I got to your site. Help me please. I'll be very grateful! My operating system is Windows 8.1 Pro. I am now waiting and do not want to forcibly shut down the computer. I just found out literally this second that the caps lock, num lock and scroll lock keys work. What can be done in this situation. Desirable without wasting money and time. By the way, I downloaded the antivirus from the official site. Of course, you might think that the type of antiviruses are in conflict, but apart from avast, I now have no antivirus. I downloaded Windows from the microsoft site. I have not used pirated programs yet. Games too. Everything was fine. I downloaded Avast using google chrome. There I have extensions: Adguard, Ghostery, https everywhere, Yandex weather and gismeteo weather. Please don't tell me to unplug your computer. By the way, these two years I have not used antivirus because I thought it would slow down my computer. The computer was fast, although I didn't have any cleaners. Sickliner type. By the way, I have always adhered to the rule that you do not need to open several applications at once, although the computer is multitasking. I always have a maximum of 3 applications open. Help me please! It is advisable that I do not waste time and money. Thanks in advance! I do not have a computer restart button on the processor; to force it to restart, you need to hold down the power button for a long time. I don’t want to do that. I am writing this comment from my phone. Sorry, please, I forgot to say hello.

A modern personal computer is a technique that is often characterized by both hardware breakdowns and software failures.

When the PC responds to user actions with a slowdown, or even ceases to show signs of life altogether, this is the reason that problems are observed in it. This mainly happens when installing new programs, watching videos or working with files downloaded from unreliable sources, as well as when turning on and off the computer or incorrectly waking up from sleep mode.

If you go to service centers too often, it will damage your family budget. To save money on more pressing needs, it is worthwhile to independently figure out why the machine freezes, does not respond to user actions, and also learn how to solve this problem using standard methods.

Use the reset buttons only as a last resort. Sudden shutdowns cause fatal errors that can lead to irreparable file crashes when booting into the Windows operating system installed on most home PCs. Therefore, this is not recommended.

To see if the program reacts to user actions, you need to start it using the CTRL, ALT and DEL key combinations. When viewed in a dialog box, all running processes and their status will be shown. If the program is "Not responding", you should use the "End task" button. In the case when it is impossible to do this and no measure gives the desired result, you should reboot using the buttons after turning off the PC in the "Start" - "Shutdown" menu. In the same place, you can assign and enable sleep mode. Only if the PC does not respond to this action, you should use the "Reset" key.

Let's figure out why the desktop computer freezes and slows down during operation, when turning on or off, connecting new devices (flash drive, mouse, keyboard powered by usb) and how to quickly fix the problem.

Demanding programs

In most cases, the reasons lie in the software itself. Before installing new programs, as well as when connecting new USB devices (flash drives, mice, etc.), it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the technical requirements of the product: very often users install them on outdated hardware. Due to poor performance, Windows will look for ways to redistribute processing power, slowing down the operation of certain services. The solution to this problem can be an "upgrade" of iron - done every few years.

Viruses

The second reason why the computer does not respond to any manipulation, slows down and freezes even when starting and watching a video is malicious software, popularly known as "viruses". They can get into the system from various sources: they can be "picked up" on the Internet, when connecting a USB flash drive or loading a disk, after installing programs from unreliable sources, etc.

The correct solution and prevention of this problem is antivirus - a program that scans Windows for the presence of such software. In most cases, with a thorough scan and elimination of the virus, the system will be cured, however, if it has spread through the root folder, you should think about reinstalling it. A high-quality antivirus can protect the OS from the penetration of malicious programs; during the check, it will monitor every USB device connected to it, as well as every page on the Internet for viruses. It should be noted that the antivirus itself will offer to do this when a new device is connected. In addition, you can save your PC in a simple way: do not connect flash drives and other usb devices, and also do not launch a disk that came to you from a dubious source and do not visit suspicious sites while traveling on the Internet.

Extra files

Also, in most cases, the computer slows down due to garbage in the OS. The answer to the question "why?" very simple. In the process, Windows leaves a huge amount of unnecessary files that take up hard disk memory, which in itself affects the stable operation of the system. For example, when watching movies, videos and pictures on the Internet, they are loaded into the browser cache, taking up space in the hard disk memory. Computer freezes can occur when the disk is completely full. The solution to this problem can be the installation of programs and utilities that allow you to clean memory from unnecessary "garbage" without user intervention.

Slows down the operating system and software running in the background. Even if the user does not use this program, it still uses RAM to keep it running. To solve this problem, you need to do the following: enter the system settings menu, go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck unnecessary programs that turn on at startup.

Freezing when watching videos on the Internet or from the hard drive is the main problem of most older computers. To solve this problem, you should upgrade your hardware or reinstall your codecs.

Also, the computer freezes due to an incorrect device driver. In this case, the PC does not respond to manipulations and slows down already at startup. In addition, such an error very often causes a blue screen of death, even when the computer is turned on or off. Before you start looking for a solution to this problem, it is worth understanding what this failure is and why it causes the system to freeze.

Blue screen

The Blue Screen of Death is a critical error message in Windows.

Blue screens aren't just about device drivers. In case of any hardware, software or system crash, a blue screen appears in front of the user's eyes, on which an error code will be written. In Windows 8, on startup, the blue screen does not report an error, but displays an image with a sad smiley face and a request to restart.
There are different ways to solve the blue screen problem depending on the cause. If the failure occurred due to device drivers, the PC should be started from under safe mode and use the restore function from the last point of stable operation of the system, which is created upon exiting the system. The blue screen in case of hardware breakdowns and overheating of the processor, RAM, unstable operation of the hard disk will disappear only after replacing one of these parts, and the system error leading to the blue screen will be eliminated after reinstalling Windows.

Sleep mode

Quite often, users complain that the computer freezes when booting the system when resuming from hibernation. Basically, a similar problem occurs with laptop and laptop users. Hanging of these devices is explained by the fact that it is to them that a huge number of different USB devices are connected (flash drive, external hard drive, USB mouse, webcam, etc.), which must be DISCONNECTED CORRECTLY if you want to use the sleep mode capabilities ... If the devices were disconnected incorrectly, after "waking up" the system will try to find them, which will lead to a fatal error, hence freezing. It is worth making sure that the device was installed correctly when connected. Another reason why the PC freezes is to go to sleep while watching a video. To fix this problem, you need to turn off the video or eject the video disc from the drive before enabling the hibernation mode.

Updates

Another reason that the computer freezes and slows down is updates. Most background processes during updating (antivirus, Windows Update, etc.) use RAM, which affects the performance of the computer as a whole. A pirated copy of Windows installed on most users' PCs cannot connect to the update server, causing a system conflict. What can you do to avoid this? Windows Update should be disabled.

Reinstalling Windows (which can be done from a USB flash drive or any other usb source) is one of the most effective solutions to eliminate computer freezes and lags. Most companies (including Microsoft), when releasing a new product, often focus on modern PCs, forgetting to optimize their own creations for old-generation machines, which causes problems when connecting new devices or installing programs and their updates.

If your computer freezes and slows down even when watching a video and you want to fix this problem once and for all, you should pay a little more attention to it: regularly cleaning the system, replacing components, updating some programs and developing a cleaning schedule will help save it from such problems and make it more reliable!

Surely every computer owner at least once in his life had such a problem when he started to "freeze". This unpleasant moment can happen completely unexpectedly. For example, after entering the "operating system", when using any program or game, and maybe even when loading a technical device.

The reason for the computer freezing

The most common causes of computer slowdown and how to fix them:

1. Banal the reason for the freezing of computer equipment- lack of RAM. When the local disk is full of various files, it may not have enough space to accommodate new information, which will prevent the operating system from working quickly. It is necessary to clean the computer memory,.

2. Another reason may be overheating of the video card or processor. This condition causes dust to accumulate on the system unit. In order to prevent such a turn of events, it is recommended to thoroughly clean the system unit at least once or twice a month.

3. Computer freeze may occur due to a breakdown of the hard disk or its ribbon. Therefore, the specialist replaces the old loop with a new (serviceable) one. Or it transfers the used loop to another device. This check helps you understand whether it is worth replacing the hard drive.

4. If the power supply breaks down, the main signal of a malfunction is clicks from the computer. They testify to the inoperative state of the power supply unit, which is unable to provide the necessary voltage to the hard drive, and makes the latter inoperative. In cases where there are no characteristic clicks, you cannot discard the option with a damaged power supply. To check and finally make sure of everything, you need to transfer it to another, working computer.

5. Freezing can occur as a result of a malfunctioning motherboard. Its serviceability can be checked, as in the previous paragraph, by transferring it to another technical device.

6. The presence of all sorts of viruses is one more reason for the "slowdown" of the computer. In order to avoid infection, it is necessary to install a special anti-virus program on it, which should be updated as often as possible, plus periodically do a full scan of the computer.

7. The contacts are loose or completely detached, and the slowdown of the PC is ensured. In order to check whether this is really so, it is necessary to completely turn off the device from the mains and see how tightly the power is connected to the hard disk.

8. Also, another reason for the computer freezing can be a problem in the BIOS located on a separate permanent storage device. To fix this problem, you need to update the BIOS software. You just need to download and reinstall the files, as well as the motherboard developer programs.

9. In addition to all the above reasons, it also happens when the computer starts to freeze immediately after boot, during startup, and in some cases before the OS is loaded. In such a situation, it is very important to check the power supply, hard drive, motherboard, and RAM for serviceability.

Unfortunately, not every person is able to independently carry out all the necessary manipulations to check their computer. Certain skills in this area are indispensable. Therefore, anyone who has encountered a freeze problem and does not know what to do is, first of all, recommended to perform the simplest and most obvious steps.

For example, check your computer for viruses, which fills the RAM, clean the system unit from dust accumulation.

If the above actions have not brought positive results, you should seek the help of a specialist.
