Oppo takes a step-by-step approach to creating unique smartphones. Best budget OPPO smartphones

For a long time, products under the OPPO brand were distributed only throughout China. Here, these smartphones have become incredibly popular, setting sales records. However, outside the Celestial Empire, only those who are interested in Chinese devices have heard about the OPPO trademark, reading resources dedicated to such gadgets. Regular consumers only found out about the brand in 2017, when OPPO smartphones began to be sold in Russia. It's time to find out which devices don't disappoint buyers.

Best mid-priced OPPO smartphones

OPPO RX17 Neo

  • CPU: 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 @ 1.95 GHz
  • Screen: 6.4 inches, resolution 2340 × 1080
  • : 16 Mpix + 2 Mpix / 25 Mpix
  • : 4 GB / 128 GB
  • Battery capacity: 3600mAh

Price: from 25 970 rubles

In reviews of OPPO RX17 Neo, every second claims that this is the most beautiful phone, of all that he met. For the design of the Neo, Chinese developers can definitely be praised - although the appearance of the smartphone is not original, the device looks really unusually attractive.

The back cover of the device is made of glass and has a gradient color - that is, depending on the angle at which the light falls, it changes its color from blue to light purple. The front edge is 91% occupied by a screen made using AMOLED technology - the image on it is extremely contrasting and bright. The manufacturer did not leave the smartphone with a "bang" and managed with a drop-shaped notch - thus increasing the usable area in front. The fingerprint sensor is not behind, but hidden under the screen - users note that although it works rather slowly, it almost never makes mistakes.

Advantages:

  • Large 6.4-inch display.
  • Lots of user memory.
  • Attractive appearance.
  • Convenient proprietary ColorOS shell with many useful "chips".

Flaws:

OPPO A5

  • CPU
  • Screen
  • Cameras (main / front)
  • Memory (operational / built-in): 4 GB / 32 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4230mAh

Price: from 14 900 rubles

OPPO A5 is the older model of the A-line of the Chinese manufacturer. The main advantages of the smartphone are excellent autonomy and unusual design. The battery has a capacity of 4230 mAh - judging by the reviews, this is enough for the device to last up to a day and a half with active use. True, users express regret that the collateral impressive autonomy is an low productivity... The A5 is equipped with a Qualcomm processor, but far from the most modern: the Snapdragon 450 is a budget solution.

"Chips" of the design - an outlandish geometric pattern on back cover and non-trivial colors. The device is available in red, blue and pink colors.

Advantages:

  • Powerful battery.
  • Interesting design.
  • Large display with unusual 19: 9 aspect ratio.
  • Face unlocking system.
  • Front camera with artificial intelligence support.

Flaws:

  • The screen has a modest resolution.
  • Performance is poor.

Best budget OPPO smartphones

OPPO F5

Many buyers like OPPO F5. People appreciated the cute looks as well as the 6-inch display. These parameters, together with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, contribute to a comfortable viewing of two applications. For example, at six inches, you can watch YouTube and surf your favorite social network at the same time. You can run absolutely any application on your smartphone, except for completely outdated ones. The operating system is Android 7.1.

There are two versions of the device on sale, differing in the amount of RAM and permanent memory. We recommend that you pay attention to the option that contains the largest volume - free place will come in very handy when you start shooting high-quality video with the 16-megapixel camera. The camera module is equipped with an aperture of f / 1.8, which indicates the possibility of shooting even in the dark. The front camera has an even higher resolution - this should appeal to lovers of selfies.

It is difficult to find fault with other characteristics of the device. OPPO F5 is capable of operating in 4G networks, and even VoLTE technology will be available to the user in some Russian cities. The work of the device is provided by the processor MediaTek Helio P23, which clocks up to an impressive 2.5 GHz. The manufacturer has not forgotten the fingerprint sensor. The only questions are Wi-Fi module, which belongs to not the fastest 802.11n standard.

OPPO F5 Youth

In terms of characteristics, the OPPO F5 Youth, available in Russia, looks interesting. This is a slightly simplified version of F5. The screen is a 6-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. 18: 9 aspect ratio lets you literally enjoy simultaneous use two applications at once. The device also copes very well with photo and video shooting - modules with a resolution of 16 and 13 megapixels are newly installed here.

The device turned out to be very powerful. Any game starts without any slowdowns even with maximum graphics settings, because under the body of the smartphone there is an eight-core MediaTek Helio P23 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz. Volume random access memory reduced to 3 GB, but this is enough for the vast majority of users. Muscovites and residents of some other large cities should rejoice at the support of VoLTE technology. But the NFC chip is missing here.

In general, the device turned out to be great. There is even a fingerprint scanner here. And the device costs less than 10 thousand rubles at the time of this writing.

OPPO A3s

  • CPU: 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 @ 1.8 GHz
  • Screen: 6.2 inches, resolution 1520 × 720
  • Cameras (main / front): 13 Mpix + 2 Mpix / 8 Mpix
  • Memory (operational / built-in): 2 GB / 16 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4230mAh

Price: from 10 899 rubles

The A3s differs very slightly from the A5 - if you compare the specifications, you will be convinced of this. The younger model has the same large 6.2-inch screen with a bang, and it also boasts excellent battery life. Why is it 4 thousand cheaper?

The point is primarily in memory: the A3s has less RAM and ROM. Considering that the smartphone has a combined slot and a flash drive can only be installed instead of the second SIM, this becomes a problem. In addition, the A3s design is not as curious as the older model. Due to the lack of geometric patterns, OPPO A3s looks attractive, but rather primitive.

Advantages:

  • Capacious battery.
  • Face recognition function.
  • Front camera with AI support.
  • The presence of unusual colors (options - red and dark purple).
  • Support for the "Party-Now" function, thanks to which you can make a powerful stereo system from several smartphones.
  • Rich equipment - the manufacturer puts a cover and a film in the box.

Flaws:

  • Weak processor.
  • Out of memory.
  • No fingerprint scanner.

Conclusion

This is the list best smartphones OPPO, available for purchase in Russian retail or the most popular Chinese online stores. Devices under this brand are divided into several lines, the most famous of which are the following:

  • A- smartphones of the middle price segment with large screens, but insufficient performance.
  • RX- devices of the flagship level with the corresponding price.
  • F- before this line was top-end, but now it is no longer replenished. Supported by the F5 and F5 Youth that are on sale.

In general, smartphones under the Chinese brand OPPO are not bad, as well as the reliability of such devices. However, it is felt that the buyer will have to overpay - competitors are asking for less money for similar products.

The Chinese company Oppo, which is part of the BBK concern with Vivo, well known to domestic users for the affordable DVD players of this manufacturer, which were common in the old days, once again made an attempt to officially enter the Russian market. Previous attempts have failed, but this time the company is confident of success. As the "ambassador" ("ambassador") of the brand, they invited the local star Yegor Creed, who was personally present at the presentation of new smartphones and in every possible way praised their capabilities. However, on closer inspection, things turned out to be not so smooth. There are only two models entering the Russian market: Oppo F5 and F5 Youth. For testing, we took the usual version of F5 and, using its example, we will evaluate whether the possibilities of the new mobile devices, as the manufacturer himself represents, and whether these smartphones really correspond to the declared level.

Contents of delivery

Oppo F5 comes in a simple packaging: there is no velvety cardboard, no black background - only white and a stylized picture in the center. So now only Apple packs its flagships.

The kit consists of a USB cable, a compact power adapter (2 V 5 A), as well as a card extraction tool, a very voluminous paper book with documentation, a case and simple plastic headphones without rubber pads.

As for the cover, it makes a strange impression: only one epithet comes to mind - "condo". Now almost all self-respecting Chinese manufacturers have begun to attach protective covers as an accessory, and this one is the most rude and clumsy of all. Made of hard and very thick plastic, ugly and unsightly, it noticeably enlarges the body in volume. And yet, the very fact of its presence in the kit is already a plus, since it is far from easy to find an exactly suitable case for all Chinese smartphones.

Appearance and usability

Oppo F5 received a body that is generally similar in design to most modern Chinese smartphones. If you remove the logo, it will be impossible to understand whether it is a product of Oppo, Asus, Meizu or someone else. A streamlined aluminum trough with strongly rounded corners and side edges smoothly converges with the same rounded 2.5D-glass of the front panel.

Thin lines at the top and bottom are not the usual curly grooves for external antennas, but just an element of decoration, grooves for beauty. Where the antennas were actually hidden is not entirely clear - maybe the case material is not metal at all, but some kind of metallized plastic. At least, the manufacturer itself does not directly state anywhere that the Oppo F5 has an all-metal case.

In addition, the smartphone is surprisingly thin and light, and the sides are so narrowed that they are practically pointed. Due to this, the device has a very small surface area of contact with the palm, it is poorly held in the hand, all the time it tries to twist in the fingers and fall out of the hands. It would be better if the sidewalls were made flat and wider ...

The camera module noticeably protrudes beyond the surface, but, unlike the same iPhone 6, from which a lot was copied here, rear part the case is strongly sloping, not flat, so it is impossible to use the device lying on the table - it sways at any touch to the screen, like a paperweight.

There are no complaints about the operation of the fingerprint scanner, the recognition is clear. The creators of the smartphone also took care of the fans of authorization by portrait photography, and this function works surprisingly smoothly and clearly, even in not ideal lighting conditions. The flash consists of only one LED and is not very bright.

The front panel is completely covered with 2.5D protective glass, the manufacturer of which has not been announced. There is no LED event indicator above the screen, which is very strange for a smartphone of this level of positioning.

There are no hardware buttons in the lower part under the screen, the buttons are only on-screen, their panel can be hidden and called back. You can try to do without buttons altogether by controlling gestures, but everything is not so simple with them (we will talk about this in detail in the section on software).

With the side keys, too, clever. Mechanical buttons were blown to opposite side faces and placed on the same level. If you firmly hold the smartphone in your hand and try to press the buttons with the fingers of the same hand, there is a possibility of pressing the keys on both sides. The collective mind of manufacturers has long come to a formula for placing both buttons on one side edge, but the creators of the Oppo F5 clearly focused on the iPhone, which now cannot be called the most convenient smartphone in terms of ergonomics.

The slot for cards is not hybrid, a memory card can be installed here in addition to two SIM-cards of the Nano-SIM format. Hot swap of cards is supported.

There are no elements on the top end, except for the second microphone, the rest are gathered at the bottom. Users have already criticized Oppo for the decision to install not a USB Type-C connector in its flagship, but Micro-USB, which is at least strange for modern apparatus this level. I am glad that the conservatism of the creators was enough to preserve the 3.5 mm audio output. The main loudspeaker and the spoken microphone are installed here.

The Oppo F5 is available in three colors: black, gold, and red, which will only be available for the 6/64 GB version. The front panel for the red version remains black.

Screen

The Oppo F5 is equipped with an IPS display covered with 2.5D curved glass. Physical dimensions the screen is 68 × 136 mm with a diagonal of 6 inches. The display resolution is 2160 × 1080 (18: 9), that is, everything is fine with the dot density, it is about 403 ppi. The frame around the screen is rather narrow, but together with the strongly protruding sidewalls, the distance from the edges of the screen to the overall edges of the case is at least 3.5 mm on the sides, and about 1 cm at the top and bottom.

It is possible to use automatic brightness adjustment based on the operation of the ambient light sensor. Multi-touch tests diagnose support for 10 simultaneous touches. It is possible to unlock the screen with a gesture. Provides a night mode, which, according to the developers, "filters blue light and relieves eye strain."

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" sections Alexey Kudryavtsev... Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are better than that of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the turned off screens (on the left - Nexus 7, on the right - Oppo F5, then they can be distinguished by their size):

The screen of the Oppo F5 is slightly darker (brightness in the photos is 107 versus 111 for the Nexus 7). The doubling of reflected objects in the Oppo F5 screen is very weak, this indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS type screen - One glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of boundaries (such as glass / air) with greatly different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of intense ambient light, but their repair in the case of cracked outer glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. On the outer surface of the screen, apparently, there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, but its effectiveness is significantly lower than that of the Nexus 7, and yet fingerprints are removed more easily and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

At manual control brightness and when displaying a white field in full screen maximum value brightness was about 500 cd / m², minimum - 3 cd / m². The maximum brightness is very high, so given the excellent anti-glare properties, the readability of the screen should be good even on a sunny day outdoors. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by the light sensor (it is located to the right of the front speaker slot). V automatic mode when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider, with which the user can try to set the desired brightness level in the current conditions. If you leave everything at the default, then in complete darkness, the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 5 cd / m2 (dark), in an office illuminated with artificial light (about 550 lx) it sets to 160 cd / m2 (normal), in a very bright environment (corresponds to outdoor illumination on a clear day, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or slightly more) increases to 530 cd / m² (even above the maximum when manually adjusted). The result did not quite suit us, so in complete darkness we slightly increased the brightness, resulting in the following values for the three conditions indicated above: 17, 160, 530 cd / m² (ideal combination). It turns out that the automatic brightness control function works absolutely adequately and allows the user to customize his work for individual requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flickering either.

This smartphone uses a matrix IPS type... The micrographs show the typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of photomicrographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even with large gaze deviations from perpendicular to the screen and without tint inversion. For comparison, we present photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Oppo F5 and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m², and the color balance on the camera was forcibly switched to 6500 K.

White field perpendicular to screens:

The uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field is good.

And the test picture:

The color saturation on the Oppo F5's screen is natural, the image is slightly darkened, the color balance is slightly different from that of the Nexus 7.

Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors did not change much on both screens, but on the Oppo F5 the contrast decreased to a large extent due to the strong black highlighting.

And white box:

The brightness at the angle of the screens has decreased a lot, but in the case of the Oppo F5, the decrease in brightness is slightly more. When deviated diagonally, the black field is lightened very strongly and takes on a purple tint. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same!):

And from a different angle:

At perpendicular view the uniformity of the black field is very good:

The contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is high - about 1500: 1. The response time for the transition black-white-black is 32 ms (16 ms on + 16 ms off). The transition between gray tones of 25% and 75% (by the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 50 ms. The gamma curve, plotted using 32 points at equal intervals in terms of the numerical value of the shade of gray, did not reveal a blockage in either the highlights or the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 2.31, which is slightly higher than the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve slightly deviates from the power dependence:

This device has a very aggressive dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness in accordance with the nature of the displayed image - the brightness of the backlight is greatly reduced in dark images in the middle. As a result, the obtained dependence of brightness on the hue (gamma curve) does not correspond to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential display of shades of gray on almost the entire screen. For this reason, a number of tests - determining the contrast and response time, comparing black illumination at angles - we carried out (however, as always) when displaying special templates with a constant average brightness, and not single-color fields across the entire screen. In general, such a non-switchable brightness correction does nothing but harm, since a constant change in screen brightness can at least cause some discomfort, reduce the visibility of gradations in the shadows in the case of dark images and the readability of the screen in bright light, since the brightness of the backlight is not the brightest in the average image underestimated. For example, when displaying a black field on one half of the screen and white on the other, the maximum brightness is reduced by 20%.

The color gamut only in the green area is slightly wider than sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix filters mix the components together to a moderate extent:

As a result, colors have a natural saturation. This device has the ability to adjust the color balance using the adjustment slider color temperature in the night mode settings (of course, the description was not without nonsense about eye fatigue and vision protection):

The balance of shades on the gray scale is average, since the color temperature on most of the gray scale is significantly higher than the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the spectrum of a black body (ΔE) in the dark area is above 10. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE change noticeably from shade to shade - this negatively affects the visual assessment color balance... (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there is not very important, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.) The correction (as indicated in the screenshot above) slightly improved the situation with the color temperature, but ΔE increased:

To summarize: the screen has a very high maximum brightness and has excellent anti-reflective properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. It is also acceptable to use the mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works adequately. Also, the advantages of the screen include the absence of an air gap in the layers of the screen and flicker, high contrast, good uniformity of the black field, as well as a color gamut close to sRGB. Significant disadvantages include a weak oleophobic coating, low stability of black to deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the plane of the screen and non-switchable dynamic adjustment of the brightness of the backlight. There are a lot of shortcomings, therefore, even taking into account the importance of characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality cannot be considered very high.

Camera

A special emphasis is placed on the front camera in general and taking selfies in particular in this device. This camera even has a higher resolution than the main (rear) one: it is 20 megapixels. True, the maximum aperture of the front lens is f / 2.0, while the rear camera uses an f / 1.8 lens. The pictures have good detail, there are no special complaints about the sharpness, but the color rendition and white balance are not always adequate to realities. The dynamic range of the sensor also leaves much to be desired: slightly more illuminated places are absolutely not worked out, obvious overexposures are visible everywhere in the pictures, although the lighting conditions during shooting were far from extreme.

The manufacturer even calls its new Oppo F5 and F5 Youth "camera phones" and ranks them among its own "selfie expert" series, since they use "SelfieTune" technologies for processing and improving self-images and instant face recognition. According to the developers, "the technology is able to recognize more than 200 points on the face and create improved images that will look as natural as possible."

In practice, during the presentation, none of the journalists was particularly impressed: the usual "beautifier", which is now in any Chinese smartphone. The higher the degree of "improvement", the more the textures are smoothed out and the more the face becomes like a plastic one. As practice shows, all these improvements "catch" for the most part only the Asian part of the audience.

The main camera uses a module with a sensor resolution of 16 megapixels and an f / 1.8 lens. This "camera phone" did not receive a second rear module at all. Autofocus here is not lightning fast, but there are no special complaints about its work. The camera control interface is clearly copied from the iPhone, the similarity was noted by all those present at the presentation. Separate menu There are no settings here, there is only a scrolling bar with a choice of shooting modes. Even in Expert mode, there is no option to save images in RAW.

The camera can only shoot video at a maximum resolution of 1080p, there is no stabilization. The camera does not impress with the quality of video shooting; it is far from the generally recognized leaders in this matter. The noise reduction system copes with its duties adequately, so that the sound is recorded cleanly.

The camera works well for details across the frame, although at the edges you can sometimes see areas of slight blur. To medium shots, the detail drops a little, but visually the images do not deteriorate from this. The camera does a good job of shooting indoors. On homogeneous surfaces and in the shadows, you can notice the grain from the noise reduction, but thanks to the high resolution of the images, it is small and practically does not spoil the details. The camera copes well with shooting macro and text. As a result, it is quite suitable for artistic and documentary photography.

Telephone part and communications

The smartphone supports several LTE FDD and TD frequency bands, including all three used in Russia (Band 3, 7, 20). Within the city limits of the Moscow region, the smartphone works stably in the networks of domestic operators, confidently maintains a 4G network, and quickly restores communication after a break.

The device behaves adequately in both Wi-Fi bands (2.4 and 5 GHz), there are no complaints about the operation of the Wi-Fi module. You can organize a wireless access point through Wi-Fi channels or bluetooth - supported Bluetooth version 4.2.

But the absence NFC module in a smartphone costing 25 thousand rubles with global development convenient technologies contactless payment looks now quite unforgivable minus.

The navigation module works with both GPS (with A-GPS) and domestic Glonass, but without the support of the Chinese Beidou. The first satellites during a cold start are detected quickly, within the first seconds. The device has a magnetic compass required for navigation programs.

The phone app supports Smart Dial. Settings for sorting and displaying contacts in phone book are standard for Android. It is possible to record telephone conversations from the line. There are no special complaints about the spoken dynamics, the volume level is sufficient, the interlocutor's voice is legible. The vibration alert is barely felt, its level is noticeably lower than the average in terms of power.

The smartphone can support both SIM-cards in 3G / 4G in active standby mode at the same time. That is, the SIM card will be actively waiting in 3G, even if another card is assigned for data transmission in 4G. The interface allows you to select a specific SIM card for voice calls and SMS in advance. Cards work in Dual mode SIM Dual Standby, there is only one radio modem.

Software and multimedia

As software platform used by Google Android 7.1 with its own shell ColorOS version 3.2. All these customized skins for smartphones from Chinese manufacturers are now becoming more and more similar to each other, the distinctive features are erased, all the developers eventually come to a certain common style (obviously, suits most users). It is difficult to single out any specific features inherent in this ColorOS, but one thing is for sure: like everything else on the Oppo F5, the interface is as close as possible in design and organization to what can be seen on iPhones. Here, not only the size and appearance of the icons is almost identical, but also the quick settings and notifications panel, which in the vast majority of Android smartphones is pulled out with a gesture from the top, moved down and slides out exactly like in iOS. There is also no usual opportunity to reboot the device from the menu by pressing the power button; you can only turn off the smartphone completely. Again, this is only an inconvenience on the iPhone.

Of course, there is no separate list of installed applications, but there is wide support for gestures, a two-window mode, here called "split screen", and an application cloning mode for working with different accounts in social networks. A set of useful utilities includes a voice recorder, compass, FM radio, there is file manager, a store of its own themes and a familiar phone manager that comprehensively monitors the system for granting permissions, detecting viruses, protecting payments, clearing the cache, etc., etc.

As for control and identification, there are slightly more possibilities than most modern Chinese shells. Firstly, the ability to recognize a face has been added, and it works very well. There are, of course, mistakes, but rarely. Secondly, the functionality of smartphone control has been expanded: you can change the navigation buttons on the panel in places, or you can turn them off altogether, replacing them with gesture control. But everything is not easy there: there are many gestures, a certain segment of the screen is allocated for each, you miss - and a gesture made in a slightly different place will lead to completely different results. You can just get confused and forget the purpose of the gestures, then it will become very tight.

To listen to music, we use our own audio player with a rather concise interface, similar to the player interface in Huawei smartphones... Responsible for sound settings separate program Real HD Sound with a selection of preset EQ values and manual adjustment. Nevertheless, despite the loud names, the smartphone sounds both in the headphones and through the speaker simply, the sound is unsaturated and dim, some kind of slightly "rough", that is, not very clean, at maximum volume, and in general the volume margin is small ... There is a built-in FM radio and a voice recorder, the latter demonstrates good sensitivity.

Performance

The hardware platform is based on the MediaTek MT6763T single-chip system, made using 16-nanometer technology. This SoC includes eight 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores in two clusters up to 1.65 / 2.3 GHz. Responsible for graphics processing is a dual-core GPU ARM Mali-G71 with a frequency of 770 MHz. Our sample had 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in flash memory. Of these, about 22 GB of storage is free and about 2.3 GB of RAM. Also on sale is a modification with 6/64 GB of memory.

There is the possibility of expanding memory by installing microSD cards(up to 256 GB) without removing one of the SIM cards. However, applications are not installed on the card. It is also possible to connect external flash drives in USB OTG mode. It is curious that in the settings it is necessary not to forget to turn on this mode again every time, since it automatically turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity.

MediaTek MT6763T is a fairly recent chip, also called Helio P23. The Taiwanese manufacturer introduced this SoC in 2017, it is intended for mid-range models. The platform is far from the most powerful, but it has an updated more modern ARM Mali-G71 video accelerator (dual-core, 770 MHz) that supports the Vulkan graphics API.

Accordingly, the smartphone copes quite successfully with any games; there are also no complaints about the performance of applications. Oppo F5 gives about 65K points in AnTuTu, according to performance tests, its platform is comparable to Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 and HiSilicon Kirin 659.

Testing in complex AnTuTu tests and GeekBench:

All the results obtained by us when testing the smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks, we have summarized in tables for convenience. Several other devices from different segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the resulting dry numbers). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions of benchmarks, therefore, many worthy and relevant models remain behind the scenes - due to the fact that they once passed the “obstacle course” on previous versions of test programs.

Browser cross-platform tests:

As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of the javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them significantly depend on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can be truly correct only on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always. In the case of Android OS, we always try to use Google Chrome.

AndroBench memory speed test results:

Heat images

Below is a thermal image back surface obtained after 10 minutes of running the battery test in the GFXBenchmark program:

Heating is localized in the upper part of the device closer to the left edge, which apparently corresponds to the location of the SoC chip. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was 35 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), which is relatively little.

Video playback

For testing "omnivorous" when playing video (including support for various codecs, containers and special features subtitles) We used the most common formats that make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that it is important for mobile devices to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, do not expect a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are tabulated.

Further video playback testing was done by Alexey Kudryavtsev.

We did not find the MHL interface, like Mobility DisplayPort, in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. To do this, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see "Testing techniques for video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)"). Screenshots with an exposure of 1 s helped to determine the nature of the frame output of video files with various parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p), 1920 by 1080 (1080p) and 3840 by 2160 (4K) pixels) and the frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps). In our tests, we used the MX Player video player in the "Hardware" mode. The test results are summarized in the table:

Great
File Uniformity Skips
4K / 60p (H.265) Okay lot
4K / 50p (H.265) Okay lot
4K / 30p (H.265) GreatGreat No
720 / 30p Great No
720 / 25p Great No
720 / 24p Great No

Note: If both columns Uniformity and Skips green ratings are set, this means that, most likely, when watching movies, artifacts caused by uneven alternation and skipping of frames will either not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect the viewing comfort. Red marks indicate possible problems with the playback of the respective files.

According to the criterion for outputting frames, the quality of video playback on the screen of the smartphone itself is good, since frames (or groups of frames) can (but are not required) to be displayed with more or less uniform intervals and, in most cases, without frame drops. When playing video files with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels (1080p) on a smartphone screen, the image of the video file itself is inscribed on the screen in height (in the case of landscape orientation), centered horizontally and displayed one to one pixel by pixel, that is, in the original resolution. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the actual range - all gradations are displayed in shadows and highlights.

Battery life

Non-removable battery Oppo F5 has a capacity of 3200 mAh - this is average level, closer to the initial one. However, most likely, it affects good optimization modern chip, since the smartphone demonstrates a fairly high level autonomous operation in all modes, comparable to the autonomy of other devices with larger batteries. In real conditions, no miracles: the smartphone confidently survives until the evening charge, but no more.

The tests were traditionally carried out at the usual level of power consumption without using power saving functions, although there are some in the device.

Battery capacity Reading mode Video mode 3D Game Mode
Oppo F5 3200 mAh 17h 30m 12h 15m 6h 00m
Umidigi s2 5100 mAh 24h 00m 13h 20m 7h 00m
Xiaomi Mi A1 3080 mAh 12h 00m 10h 00m 6h 00m
HTC One X10 4000 mAh 17h 00m 12h 00m 5h 00m
Huawei Nova 2 2950 mAh 13h 00m 10h 30m 4h 00m

Continuous reading in FBReader(with a standard, light theme) at a minimum comfortable level of brightness (the brightness was set to 100 cd / m2) lasted until the battery was completely discharged for at least 17.5 hours, and with continuous video playback in high quality(720p) with the same brightness level via a home Wi-Fi network, the device operates for more than 12 hours. In 3D games mode, the smartphone can work up to 6 hours.

From the supplied power adapter, the smartphone is charged with a current of 1.5 A at a voltage of 5 V, it takes a little less than 2.5 hours to fully charge it. Wireless charging is not supported.

Outcome

Another attempt by Oppo to come to Russia with its smartphones looks strange. The Chinese manufacturer (perhaps not quite understanding the market conditions) offered the oversaturated mobile market the device is unpretentious by all objective estimates, having set a very high price for devices of this class - obviously, in the hope of a miracle. However, a miracle is unlikely to happen, and the highly overpriced F5 smartphone, not only not outstanding, but even noticeably inferior to competitors in some ways, with not the most best display, an average platform in terms of capabilities, and even not Qualcomm, but MediaTek, without NFC support, with a receding Micro-USB connector, unpretentious sound and, most importantly, with not top-end, albeit good cameras, will hardly interest many. The device itself may be quite suitable, but the way it is positioned and at what price they are trying to offer it to sophisticated users causes some bewilderment. For Oppo, this is already the second, if not the third attempt to officially enter the Russian market, and of course, it will be very interesting to watch the company's further actions in this direction.

Oppo is a brand that is very well known not only in China but also outside this country. The company has representative offices, for example, in Mexico and the USA, where the company's products are quite popular. But with the Russian market, Oppo is not so smooth. The company has already tried to gain a foothold in Russia once (2013), but nothing came of it. And this year the company's management made another attempt and, apparently, it is doomed to success.

But today we will not talk about the history of the brand, but about its products - three Oppo smartphones. Reviews, specifications, cost, bundles and much more - all of this will be covered in this review. Let's get started!

Description

For the review of Oppo smartphones, the most popular models were selected for Lately released in 2017. The first two models are the flagship R11 and the selfie expert F5. I would like to note right away that the price of the devices is far from the lowest, but, in comparison with other more well-known brands, it can be safely called acceptable. The third model, which will be discussed, is another representative of the Oppo F-series smartphones line - F3. About this model little is known and officially in Russia it has not yet been sold.

This model was presented back in the summer of 2017, but the device has not yet hit the Russian market. You can buy it in one of the online stores in China, India and some other countries. In addition to regular version, there is also the Oppo F3 Plus, but it is only sold in the Indian market. Its appearance in Russia is a very big question, but the usual "troika" is likely to appear. So we will consider it exactly.

Equipment

Oppo F3 is sold in a small cardboard box white... Above the package shows the device itself, and below you can read the characteristics. By the way, the box is not cheap here. Its coating is quite pleasant and resembles a kind of matte surface.

The bundle of the smartphone is quite interesting. Firstly, there is a branded clip for opening the SIM card tray. Secondly, the company provides each customer with a transparent silicone case. It is made well, there are no factory rough seams here. Although the cover is simple, it is still nice to see it. Many manufacturers do not even put such covers in the box.

Further, here you can find a set of instructions in the form of books, a micro-USB charging cable, white in-ear headphones with a microphone and an adapter charger with a capacity of 2 amperes, which is pretty good.

Appearance

The look of the smartphone is just great. The body is made of metal, the build quality is very high. Users are given only 2 color options to choose from: gold and rose-gold (as indicated on the official website). On the right side of the smartphone, at the very top, there is a SIM card tray. It opens simply with a branded paper clip. The tray here is very pleasant, since it allows you to install not only 2 nano-SIM cards, but also a memory card up to 128 GB.

Below the tray is the on / off button. It is a little inconvenient to operate it, since it is located somewhat higher, but after a while you can get used to it. On the left side of the F3 there are only 2 volume buttons. They are not made with a single rocker, but with separate keys - this is convenient.

At the back there is only a 13 megapixel main camera and a single LED flash. At the top there is only a microphone hole. But the bottom is located external speaker, micro-USB connector, second microphone and 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The front panel here looks like on most other smartphones. Above is speaker, a light and proximity sensor, an LED informing about missed events, and immediately 2 front cameras of 16 megapixels and 8 megapixels for incredibly cool selfies. Below is only a mechanical "Home" button with a built-in fingerprint scanner, as well as two touch-sensitive keys on the left and right - "Back" and "Menu".

Screen

The display here has a diagonal of 5.5 inches, and the matrix is made using TFT IPS technology. FullHD resolution, i.e. 1920 × 1080. Air gap missing, making the sensor more responsive. there is and it is very high quality, the finger glides perfectly. As for the screen itself, it has correct color rendering, high contrast and a good margin of brightness. The factory calibration is almost perfect, but there is a slight bias towards colder shades. The viewing angles are very decent, there is no distortion when tilted.

Specifications

The specifications of the Oppo F3 smartphone are quite good. An 8-core Mediatek MT6750T is used as a processor. Video accelerator MaliT86-MP2. By the way, the version with the Plus prefix uses better hardware - Snapdragon 653 and Adreno 505. Nevertheless, F3 allows you to play heavy games without problems at maximum graphics settings and provides required level performance for fast and smooth operation of the OS.

By default, the smartphone has 64 GB of internal memory, but if this is not enough, you can insert a USB flash drive up to 128 GB. The amount of RAM is 4 GB, which is more than enough for this moment... The battery has a capacity of 3200 mAh, which raises some questions about autonomy. Most likely, with active use, the charge will be enough for about a day.

The front camera has 2 modules of 16 and 8 megapixels. This combination allows for incredible quality selfies and high-definition video recording. The main camera has a 13 megapixel model, which, by the way, takes pictures very well. Some sources of information say that there is a module from here, but it is difficult to say whether this is so. In any case, the photos are cool, and for lovers of handheld shooting, a separate mode with a lot of settings is provided.

The operating system is Android 6.0 with a future update to the 7th version. The proprietary ColorOS interface is used as a shell. The shell is somewhat reminiscent of MIUI or FLymeOS. It is convenient to use, there are cool branded widgets.

Reviews and price

Unfortunately, there are no reviews of the Oppo F3 smartphone, since the phone is not yet officially on sale in Russia. As for the cost, it also continues to be unknown. But if we start from the prices in China or India, then, most likely, in our country it will cost in the region of 18,500-20,000 rubles, and taking into account the VAT and PCT, the price tag may even grow to 23-25 thousand.

Oppo F5 Smartphone

Consider the following model. This is the bezel-less Oppo F5 smartphone. He is the "big brother" of the F3, which has slightly improved characteristics. We will not describe everything in particular, we will consider only the main points that are most important.

Design and appearance

There is no particular point in talking about the package bundle, because the box in which the smartphone is in is roughly similar to the F3, as well as everything else. The only difference is that the manufacturer put a silicone case in the kit for the F3, while the F5 already has a plastic bumper. It is made worse, and it does not look very good.

The appearance of the Oppo F5 smartphone is somewhat similar to the previous model. The body is also made of metal, and the display has rounded corners. The controls are located exactly the same as those of the Oppo F3. The main difference between the "five" is that there is no mechanical key under the screen, just like a brand new Iphone. The rear side of the device also houses the main camera with flash.

The design of the phone cannot be called unique or memorable. Yes, it looks cool, there are 3 colors to choose from: gold, black and red. But with all this, the appearance is somewhat reminiscent of a mixture of Iphone 8 and OnePlus.

Display

The screen is one of the main advantages of the F5. It has a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18: 9. The company calls this resolution FullHD +. This is actually very convenient, especially for playing games or watching videos. The screen matrix is made using LTPS TFT technology. The diagonal is 6 inches.

The color rendition is very good, there is a margin of brightness. By contrast, there are no questions either. In general, the F5's screen is much better calibrated than the "three". The viewing angles are decent here and the image looks equally good from different angles. Multi-touch support recognizes up to 10 simultaneous touches.

Model characteristics

Now you can go to the description of the Oppo F5 smartphone, more precisely, its characteristics. Here it is already much more interesting, since you can find 2 versions of the device on sale. The first offers the user 32GB of internal memory and 4GB of RAM. The second has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. In addition, there is support for memory cards up to 256 GB. The slot for SIM cards and a USB flash drive is the same as in the F3.

An 8-core video accelerator is used as a processor, respectively, from Mali. The smartphone shows good performance level. There are also no problems with games.

The operating system here is Android 7.1, and the proprietary ColorOS is used as a shell. There are no jams, brakes or freezes, everything works very quickly. I would especially like to note the speed of the fingerprint scanner. It takes less than 0.5 seconds to unlock the device.

There are two cameras - the main one is 16 megapixels and the front one is 20 megapixels. The quality of the photographs raises no questions. There is a separate manual mode that gives you complete creative freedom. The luminosity of the optics is also pleasing. For the main camera, it is 1.8, and for the front camera - 2.0.

And the last thing is the battery. Its volume is the same as that of the F3 - 3200 mAh.

Cost and user reviews

Unlike F3, there are reviews about the Oppo F5 smartphone, since this smartphone has already been presented in Russia and is being sold, however, not everywhere. So, users note that the smartphone has a couple of shortcomings, namely: the lack of an NFC module, weak autonomy, and sometimes slight slowdowns appear in the camera interface. Otherwise, no one has any complaints.

At the moment, you can buy the Oppo F5 at a price of about 25 thousand rubles for the 4/32 GB version. The 6-64 GB version is not yet on sale in Russia.

Oppo R11 flagship

R11 is, one might say, new smartphone Oppo, which was introduced almost recently. The model is flagship and will soon start selling in our country. Let's see how the R11 differs from the F3 and F5.

Completion and appearance

About the delivery set, we can say this - all the smartphones described today have almost the same equipment: a smartphone, a clip for a SIM tray, instructions, headphones, a charging cable, a power adapter and a case. V in this case, the manufacturer has put in a transparent silicone case, not a plastic bumper like the F5.

The appearance is also very much similar to what we have already seen before, in particular, the R11 can in some sense be considered an advanced version of the Oppo F3. The layout of the controls and connectors is the same as before. At the front of the smartphone is the usual set of sensors and a 20 megapixel front camera. There is also a traditional mechanical Home button, which also functions as a fingerprint scanner, as well as two touch buttons left and right side, but no backlight. The most important change on the R11's rear is dual camera 20 + 16 Mp.

By the way, what else I would like to say about the case is that it is all-metal, without plastic parts at the top and bottom. This is good.

Screen

The R11 has a 5.5-inch display and a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The matrix here is no longer IPS, but AMOLED. The picture quality is very good and crisp. Color reproduction is excellent, as well as contrast. The only thing missing here is a headroom of brightness. In very sunny weather, you literally have to stare at the screen. It is also worth noting that the color temperature is shifted more towards the cold side, but at everyday use the device will not be noticeable.

Specifications

The Chinese smartphone Oppo R11 has quite good characteristics, though it's a stretch to call them flagship, but still. The processor is installed here from Qualcomm - this is the Snapdragon M660. Adreno 512 is used as a video accelerator, and the amount of RAM is 4 GB. Unfortunately, there is no 6 GB version. Nevertheless, this filling is enough not only for comfortable work devices, but also for games on maximum graphics. As for the volume of internal memory, it is 64 GB + there is support for memory cards up to 256 GB.

The battery is installed here at 3000 mAh, but in conjunction with a less power-consuming processor, display and good optimization, the smartphone can safely work up to two days without recharging, in moderate use, of course. And besides, the charging process will not take long, using VOOC technology - literally a few minutes, according to the words of the company.

The operating system here is Android 7.1. ColorOS is used as a shell - in principle, everything is standard for Oppo. There is also nothing special to say about the cameras. Smartphone photographs gorgeous, and at any time of the day and under any conditions. Perhaps before Galaxy level S8 falls short, but still very worthy.

The Chinese company Oppo Digital is famous manufacturer digital technology and electronics, which helps in work and allows you to significantly diversify a person's leisure time. Smartphones from this brand deserve special attention due to innovative features, such as high-speed charging, which allows you to fully charge the battery in 10 minutes.

Advantages and features of Oppo smartphones

This company does not rely on the frequency of new models being released, but on thoughtful variety. That is why all devices of the brand differ significantly from each other. For example, Oppo Finder was once the most thin phone in the world, and the Find 7 smartphone can take 50-megapixel pictures.

That said, critics often point out that Oppo is trying to inherit by using the most successful models to emulate. If you are a fan of the famous apple brand, then you will definitely love the models that use the best practices of the American brand.

Famous Oppo smartphone selfie cameras

The picture quality provided by the front camera of Oppo smartphones has long won the attention and appreciation of many users. Equipped with a practical camera, the Find 5 has been named “for women”.

If you want to take a fresh look at the art of photography, as well as fill the device's memory with bright and colorful pictures, then you should buy such a gadget. V latest models two cameras (front and rear) are used at once, equipped with a zoom, which significantly increases the range of the photographer's capabilities.

The features of Oppo smartphones also include:

  • fast charging;
  • large and high-quality display;
  • low weight with tangible dimensions;
  • design as close as possible to the iPhone.

The Chinese company OPPO in Russia is still known to few, although it probed the ground in our market back in 2013. Then things did not go very well, and it was decided to postpone the massive expansion until better times. And now these times have come.

OPPO, the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, second only to Huawei, Apple and Samsung, is officially coming to Russia. The brand belongs to the BBK Electronics group of companies, which also includes the famous Oneplus and Vivo. The latter, by the way, is also preparing to enter the Russian market.

For acquaintance with the Russians, the OPPO F5 smartphone was chosen. Its strengths include a 6-inch solid screen, a 20-megapixel front-facing camera with intelligent selfie enhancement technology, a 16-megapixel main camera, a fresh mid-range MediaTek processor and decent battery life.

Design and materials

OPPO F5 is a representative of the just nascent class of mid-range smartphones with a screen that occupies almost the entire front panel. In this case, the screen occupies 84.2% of the surface. You could call it frameless, but there are frames, as, for example, in the LG Q6.

In terms of body design, OPPO does not offer anything new: the typical "streamlined" look, the desire to make the smartphone thinner and, as a result, the protruding camera. Everything is normal, but at the same time beautiful. Unless the rear fingerprint scanner is not round or square, as is customary, but oval. Note that OPPO uses glass of the usual form, and therefore there are no smooth transitions from the screen to the edges.

The materials are simple: plastic, shatterproof Gorilla Glass 5.

Already out of the box, the OPPO F5 screen is covered with a film. A plastic bumper is supplied to protect the case.

Screen

6-inch IPS-panel, aspect ratio 18: 9, resolution Full HD +, that is, 2 160 × 1,080 pixels - the display is elongated. The pixel density is 402 ppi. The brightness range is wide enough to comfortably use your smartphone both at night and under the sun.

How is an elongated screen generally perceived? In ergonomics, nothing has changed: a 6-inch smartphone is the same as a 5.5-inch one, and therefore there are no problems with using it with one hand. Of course, to reach out with a thumb top corners, the device will have to be intercepted. It's nice that OPPO F5 has moved the settings shortcut, which traditionally opens with a swipe from top to bottom, from the top of the screen to the bottom.

False positives with this big screen seemingly possible, but nothing like this happens. Even if you accidentally touch some part of your palm touch key or icons, nothing happens. In addition, in the settings of OPPO F5, you can turn on the function of blocking accidental touches.

The elongated screen fits more information... Sites are perceived more holistically, including those not adapted for mobile devices... There is no feeling that you are looking at a page through a window.

The split screen mode, in which you can run two applications at the same time in different windows, looks gorgeous on the OPPO F5. But, unfortunately, not all applications support this mode: the same clients of Facebook and VKontakte refuse to work in a team. But with Chrome, YouTube, messenger Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram no problem.

So, the "solid" screen turned out to be an absolute plus. With it, content and applications are more pleasantly perceived, while the ergonomics have not suffered.

Performance

The OPPO F5 hardware base is the MediaTek Helio P23 chipset, presented at the end of August 2017. It is a 16nm chipset with eight Cortex-A53 processing cores up to 2.5GHz and a Mali-G71 MP2 GPU.

The amount of RAM - 4 GB, built-in - 32 GB (you can install a memory card with a capacity of up to 256 GB). With this configuration, the OPPO F5 earns 60,000 points in the AnTuTu benchmark, which is great for a mid-range smartphone. The interface remains fluid and fast even if you run multiple applications in parallel.

Being a mid-range smartphone, OPPO F5 cannot be called a gaming one: you will not be able to run any graphically loaded game at high settings and get smooth gameplay. However, it is still possible to play, and if you are not an adherent of the slogan "grafon at maximum speed", then there will be no problems with the games. Modern combat 5 runs at high settings, Need for Speed: No Limits significantly lowers the graphics, World of Tanks Blitz starts at low settings and produces 60 fps, Olympus Rising can be played with almost maximum graphics parameters - in general, anything can happen.

Interestingly, in the settings of OPPO F5 there is a whole section "Speed up games". This is where graphics acceleration is turned on, that is, "optimizing the image output configuration for the most full use hardware resources ". Using World of Tanks Blitz as an example, this gives a larger spread of fps at high settings. In quiet scenes, fps can reach 50, but as soon as the battle begins, it drops to 13–20. If you turn off graphics acceleration, then fps rarely rises above 35 and falls below 20, as soon as one or two more tanks appear in the field of view.

Cameras

Frontal

So we come to the most interesting part. OPPO calls the F5 a selfie expert. Why? First, the front camera has a 20MP resolution. But this, of course, is not enough for good selfies.

OPPO F5 features SelfieTune technology. At first glance, it may seem that this is a simple "beautifier", but everything is much more interesting. "Beautifiers", as a rule, process the photo in such a way that the person in the frame looks unnatural. F5 uses to process Artificial Intelligence AI Beauty.

The smartphone builds a face model based on 200 points, while usually only 50 points are used, it compares a person with a base of faces, analyzes the shape of the face and its features, taking into account gender and age, and, taking into account the lighting conditions, performs moderate processing ... The teeth become whiter, the look is more expressive, the lips are pinker. Bags under the eyes, wrinkles, skin imperfections - all this goes away, and you look younger before your eyes. OPPO claims that AI Beauty is also learning, so selfies will get even better over time.

But what is in reality? SelfieTune being intellectual function, almost impossible to customize. You can only specify the degree of processing from 1 to 6, but it is better to use the auto mode. As soon as you turn on the front camera, OPPO F5 immediately starts looking for faces. The smartphone catches the subject instantly and keeps it in focus, no matter how quickly and chaotically a person moves. This is how the Face Comes First function works - the smartphone always knows exactly where the face is in the frame and where the background is, and adjusts the exposure and brightness accordingly.

The result of SelfieTune processing is, let's say, not for everybody. It may be moderate, but it is still noticeable upon close examination of the portrait, especially if you pay attention to the details and texture. For example, a light male unshaven is washed out, and where there was a weekly mustache, only a light fluff remains. Well, perhaps AI Beauty will learn how to work with stubble in a month or two.

Another cool selfie mode feature is the bokeh effect. Note that, as a rule, they talk about it in the context of the second camera, which allows you to measure the depth of field. But OPPO F5 only has one camera, how can this be? It turns out that it can. The smartphone really knows how to blur the background and does it well, no worse than its two-camera counterparts. The edges of the subject remain clean and sharp. We did not notice any errors in the background division.

Summarize. Is OPPO F5 really a selfie expert? Definitely yes. The photo module is good enough to make selfies look sharp and bright, and the smartphone software is really capable of doing moderate processing with a high-quality bokeh effect.

Rear

The main camera of the OPPO F5 is also decent. Resolution - 16 megapixels, aperture - f / 1.8. OPPO does not say anything about it, except that it is bright and capable of taking bright pictures in low light conditions. However, everything is much more interesting.

First, the OPPO F5's camera has pretty fast and accurate autofocus. Secondly, the camera itself is also not slow. You can take pictures of a cat in motion, branches trembling in the wind - all this is possible. Thirdly, natural colors and a fairly wide dynamic range. OPPO F5 is great at macro photography. Night shots come out bright, but noise and loss of detail are noticeable. However, increasing the aperture is not enough for good night photography.

Software

OPPO F5 comes with operating system Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Graphical interface naturally not native. OPPO developed ColorOS and F5 has version 3.2 installed.

In general, ColorOS continues the idea of simplifying the interface. Anything that could be cleaned up, composited and optimized was removed, composited and optimized. As a result, we have almost iOS. There is no application menu or widgets - there is simply nowhere to get lost in ColorOS. There are desktops, the ability to collect icons into folders, a convenient shutter for quick access to settings and some applications (flashlight, calculator, camera) - and that's it. Elegant, simple, fast.

Among the non-obvious features are split screen mode and support for gestures. For example, in standby mode, you can turn on double touch screen, start the camera by drawing the letter O, or the flashlight by drawing V.

Safety

OPPO F5 has two biometric tools locking the smartphone from prying eyes is a fingerprint scanner and a face recognition system. Everything is clear with the scanner: they put a finger on it and the smartphone unlocked. You can also "hang a lock" on a folder or application. But let's take a closer look at face recognition.

Everything works very simply. It is enough to register your face in OPPO F5, after removing glasses, headwear and washing off bright makeup, and henceforth the smartphone will recognize you. The system works very quickly! At first, it may even seem that the smartphone was not blocked at all.

In challenging environments, such as bright backlighting or dim lighting, the OPPO F5 may not be able to handle it. In this case, you will have to unlock the device by entering a four-digit PIN-code.

OPPO warns that facial recognition systems can be tricked into using an object that resembles your face. A person similar to you can also break through the defenses. However, the OPPO F5 photo is not fooled, we checked.

Connection

You can forget about the nightmare of combined trays: OPPO F5 is one of the few Chinese smartphones in which you can install both two SIM cards and a memory card at the same time.

OPPO F5 Supports All LTE Needed for Operation in Russia frequency ranges, including Band 20. Recall that many Chinese smartphones, including famous brands Meizu and Xiaomi, with Band 20, are not friends. As a result, where this particular range is used, their owners are left without LTE Internet.

GPS and GLONASS, Wi-Fi with 5 GHz band support, Bluetooth 4.2 - everything is as it should be. But unfortunately, the OPPO F5 does not have an NFC chip. Although if you forget about contactless payments and Android Pay, then it is not really needed.

Working hours

OPPO F5 is powered by a 3,200 mAh battery. It would seem that this is not enough for a 6-inch smartphone. However, the energy-efficient processor and LPDDR4X memory, as well as competent software optimization, do their job. In the mode mixed use(internet, camera, a couple of calls and some games) OPPO F5 can last almost a day and a half. In general, this is the only chip concerning the battery. Neither fast nor wireless charging there is no. The microUSB port is being used.

Conclusion

OPPO F5 is a decent smartphone to make a name for itself in a new market. Its brightest surface feature is its 6-inch screen with thin bezels... There are not so many middle-class competitors in this regard. Doogee Mix 2, Umidigi S2 and a weak LG Q6 can be called with a stretch.

As for the cameras, no one has a tandem of 20 megapixels in front and 16 megapixels in the rear in the mid-price segment. However, it is known that happiness is not in megapixels, so pay attention to the Huawei Nova 2i with a 20-megapixel front camera and a dual rear camera - 12 megapixels + 8 megapixels. If we forget about fashionable solid screens, then the competitor is worthy.

Performance, battery life, wireless interfaces - everything is smooth and good here.

The cost of a smartphone is 24,990 rubles. Sales start on November 25 in popular hardware stores. There are two colors to choose from: black and gold. In December, another version of OPPO F5 will be released - in a red case, with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Its cost will be 29,990 rubles.
